(00:04):
On on on on, hold,on, on on on okay, by
yeah, I do on on.That's why I have two legendaries. Man,
Hello and welcome to the gamer LandPodcast. I'm your host, Justin

(00:28):
Warsham with me as always is theone, the only, the d Kevin
Miller dot com. Jump and pressthe circle button. Count, jump and
press the circle button. Everyone, everyone, everyone right now, jump up
and then press the circle button. While you're listening. It's gonna be great.
If you're in the library, peopleare gonna look at you, but
maybe you'll meet the love of yourlife because they're like, that guy's quirky.

(00:51):
You're jumping around, Yeah, thatlady's quirky. I like the cut
ofver Chip. Here's what I Here'swhat I'm thinking, is that we need
We've said this before, we needshirts with circle buttons on them. And
then I thought it would be great. It's to have actual clothes with like
buttons that you can press. AndI thought, why why isn't the Star
Wars motif of like undescribed pieces ofmetal that light up a thing? Right

(01:12):
now? Like why we have thetechnology, why why aren't uh, you
know, non just a little decorateddecorative little pieces of retro tech integrated into
my clothes. Why is that notsomething in Target right now? I love
that we have the technology. Wehave it. We can make clothes bigger,

(01:33):
more glowy, glow extra little dodads. I don't know why,
but all I can think about is, Uh, which one are those buttons?
Do you press for your mom tocome? Than? That's what I'm
saying. So that's what so wetalked about on the show. You don't
know what Darth Vader's buttons on hisshirt? It doesn't matter, it's cool.
Why don't Why don't we have that? It'd just be like, hold
on, I'm gonna take care thatdo you like? You know why?

(01:56):
Because chicks aren't into it? Man. That's that is why I think I'm
learning. Uh, fashion, Fashionis all dictated by women, not just
for themselves, but also there area ton of cosplay gals. You think
that they would be on the cuttingedge of that, right, So,
I think, but that's that thattakes cosblay into real play, and then
it eliminates the specialness of cosplay. You know what. The other thing I

(02:19):
think that's the thing I was thinkingabout getting a bluetooth ring. Oh Uh,
so you can get you know, you can get like an Apple watch.
You get rings with bluetooth with displayson them so they interact with your
phone or whatever it display information onthere. Because I don't think I want
to watch that's a lot of commitment. How do you think you're going to
read? I don't know why.I needed to learn more about it and

(02:40):
be like, do you you stickout like a super Bowl ring? And
it just looks like it looks likemy wedding ring actually was a pretty flat
band and and then there's just alittle black bar on the front and then
it just sort of put some textthere for you. I gotta find the
sound effect of a whip because Irealized that when I want to jump subjects,
I want to have a sound ofwhiplash, well like a transition.

(03:00):
Because I don't know why, butthis made me think of are you watching
Hard Knocks right now? No?I don't need to be watching Hard Knox.
It is the it's an NFL filmsthe right HB and it's done the
Raiders and John Cruden is the coachof Where do I see that on HBO?
Okay? And it is amazing, like and what's the best part is

(03:21):
is there and maybe I'll play it. It's worth it to plays Frank Caliendo
does it dead on impression of JohnGruden and he comes in and what made
me think of it is that hewears the Super Bowl ring and the impression,
but it's like covers his entire fist. Can I see that on the
NFL network? I don't know ifyou know. I don't think so.
I think it's like the NFL Filmsmakes it. But um, but it's

(03:46):
on YouTube. Yeah, and I'mgonna see. Yeah, Frank, here
it is Frank Caliendo hard knocks. Is it worth it? Is it worth
it for me to play right here? On? How long is it?
It's a minute? Is that toolong? Is it funny? I think
so? Is it? Is itfunny? Does it require visuals? No?
Because here's why, Glen, becauseI don't think it requires a visual
because all you need to know isthat this is a guy doing a spot

(04:10):
on impression of John Gruden. Whenyou just hear it, I think you
could appreciate that he sounds exactly likea different guy. After this, we
go directly into games. All right, go glenn On, love you man.
We needed a quarterback on the team. We had a lot of neck.
We got a good guy that isa spot on. I thought I
was here John Gruden University in Dayton. I'd do this shit for free.

(04:45):
Know why, because I fucking lovefootball. Knock on wood, if you're
with me, that's the thing,he says. The other Knight that impressed
me tremendously. Guy by the nameof Hunter Renfro is a rookie wide spectacular
man. Yeah, I kind ofshort boo. That's a sweet font though.

(05:09):
I like that. Fun it's agreat So it's great because it's funny
because what they usually do on eachepisode is that it's John Gruden given a
speech to the team, and itstarts in with that you know the NFL
films like sound Yeah, and hegoes into a speech and then he goes
around it stuff five minutes ago.And there's just one part where he does
this thing. He makes fun ofJohn Gruden because there's this one intro where

(05:32):
he does he's just talking and thenhe starts yelling for no reason, and
then he goes back to his quietvoice, and so he goes, I'm
gonna yell for no reason, andeverybody busts up laughing, and he goes,
but here's the thing, and hegoes in and everybody's dying laughing,
and John Gruden goes, why don'tyou say something funny there? Frankly,

(05:53):
he was not amused. But butthis is a fun time for us on
the game Land podcast because we're enteringinto and this is the part where ninety
eight percent of our listeners completely yeahyeah, so I and where I say
about one percent of the intellectual thingswere regarding football and you fill in all

(06:14):
the blanks. It's you know,it's funny too. Is that I said
I was not going to buy Maddentwenty. Yeah, I guess who bought
mad and twenty? Did you buyit? I did? Is it a
download? I bought it as adownload? And but the reason I did
is because my son's best friend suddenlyloves football, playing flag football, like
not interested in sports. Yeah,he's the kid who had my favorite line
when he was Him and my sonwere in kindergarten and Jacob wanted to be

(06:38):
a professional football player for a living. They were talking in the back of
the minivan and he said, hegoes, what do you want to be?
And you grow up he said,a football player. Who do you
like football? He goes, No, he goes, I'm too afraid of
catastrophic injury. I'm too concerned aboutcatastrophic injury. Smart kid. Yeah,
and now he's into it. Nowhe loves football. He's playing I don't
think he's going to play actual tackle. Yeah, but he's playing flag football

(07:00):
and he loves playing Madden. Andwhen he comes over, he brought it
and then they put my son isthe Rams, he's the Bears with the
with the reality of e sports thoughhe kind of still can play football and
make a lot of money. Yeah, in the sport arenas. Yes,
And so I bought it because Ithink we're gonna do like a father son
league. And I was going totext you, see if you wanted in
on this action. Maybe that's reallytouching. I'm probably gonna have to be

(07:23):
the Chargers, though, why becausethe Rams are taken by my son?
Yeah? Do I get to bethe Patriots? Yeah, that's what I
mean. But it would be youand me in the AFC, I think,
unless one of the other dads choosesan AFC team, because I think
both the kids are going to bepicking the family favorite teams. If she's
going to cast offs. I thoughtabout being the Colts too. That would
be fun, that would be fun. But the Colts are not in the

(07:44):
same division as the Patriots. Arethey It's the Jets, Dolphins? Correct,
and don't tell me. I won't. This is the one part of
football I know is the divisions.I know them very buffalo. Yes,
okay, yeah, all right,I can do that for any of them,
for any division. Yeah, forany conference, any division, I
can tell you who they are.I think the AFC North to someone,
But that's the Cults, Steelers,Bengals, and Ravens. Correct, like

(08:07):
me, Sorry, I see somuch time on football. The one thing
that's not video game related that's kindof is is the irony that Spider Man
is the one that dies at theend of endgame. We were we were
supposed to record uh last week?Right? Is this news dropped? It
was very fresh, So I dothink that we need to acknowledge it that

(08:28):
that the Sony yanked him out ofthe MCU. Does this not frustrate you?
Wait, I didn't know this happen. I'm breaking this news to you
right now. Yes. All Isaw was a tweet from Hawkeye aka Jeremy
Renner, give us, give themback to us. Yeah, that's what
happened. So Sony and Disney werein negotiations over this, Uh, depending

(08:50):
on who you have already had farfrom Home. Yes, So they're talking
about the next leg of movies andwhat to do, and so they had
two more Spider Man movies in development. What it looks as though happened is
that Disney came and said, wewould like to start having a bigger portion
of the profits for the Spider Manmovies. Right now they get reportedly five

(09:11):
percent, and then all the merchandise, and Sony's into the deal is that
we get the cut from the film, you get all the merchandise. Now,
arguably that's still a pretty sweet dealbecause we all know that the real
money. When I heard that,I was like, I'm surprised Sony win
for that, because the real moneyis on the merchandise. But okay,
but you could also make the caseof like Disney is building up the property,

(09:33):
they are the ones doing it.Sure, Sony foots the bill for
the film, but it's not likethey're not doing it. So I think
there's room to talk. Yeah, they're going to break even on those exactly.
Yeah, you're making the movie themoney you put in, and of
course if you're Sony, you don'twant to break even, you want to
profit anyway. So they eventually theybroke. They're like, well, this
is a deal breaker. Maybe Disneywas asking for fifty percent of the cut

(09:54):
from the film, maybe there wereother merchandise, it's not clear. But
then the next day Sony back andsaid, actually, what happened is that
they said that now the X Menare in the MCU and they're developing that
Kevin Phage was going to be pulledoff of the Spider Man movies to go
focus on that, which some peoplewere like, that sounds like a spin.
That doesn't sound like really the orderof which happened sounded like you wanted

(10:16):
more money and whatever. But thenthe ultimate capper what broke later in the
week is that Marvel finally went backand said, fine, we'll just buy
back our rights, give us back. So it's what everybody wants us to
just buy Spider Man back from you. How much money do you think Reportedly
did Sony ask for Spider Man's rightsto be sold back to Marvel forty billion

(10:39):
dollars? You are not far off, my friend, ten billion dollars.
It's still in the Star Wars doubledigit billions. Eight billion is what I
believe they bought Star Wars from.Is that ch Lucas. That is a
ton of cash. Yeah, butstop for Spider Man. For Spider Man

(11:01):
for one billion more. Yeah, ten billion dollars they wanted for for something
they actually already said, we're notpaying it. They don't want it.
They don't want to spend that kindof money. I mean, I ten
billion dollars. What's NASA's budget tenbillion dollars? A good question, That
is a good question. What isNASAs? How much does Greenland? How

(11:22):
much does greenland cost of the country? Yeah, where were we going to
buy that? For the next bider? What what would it cost to UH
to create an infrastructure for Puerto Rico? Probably ten billion? Maybe that's what
they want to do with the money. Oh, Disney wants to buy portric
NASA's budget for the fiscal year twentynineteen is twenty one point five billion dollars.

(11:45):
It represents point four nine percent ofthe four point four trillion dollars then
United States planned to spend that year. So you could go to the Moon
and back once. Since its inception, the United States spent six hundred and
one billion dollars on NASA. That'samazing. Yeah, so they could have

(12:07):
they could have six hundred or sixtysix is hard. I've been sixty times.
Sixty Spider Men could go into spacein a NASA rocket. Please someone
mean that for us right now. That needs to be a thing. Sixty
Look how much Spider star Wars? How much Star Wars were because this guy,
when I heard that, I waslike, that's preposterous. No much.

(12:30):
Why how much they bought? Howmuch do they buy? LucasArts,
a hum broken franchise that was coldas ice when they bought it. I
could have swore it was four billion, four billion. You just a moment
ago you said eight. Oh I'mso sorry, so because you were like,
it's two more so four for StarWars twice four point what four point

(12:52):
zero five billion? That's ridiculous dueto proximately half in cash and half in
shares of Disney stock. And whatis George Lucas gonna do with twenty nineteen?
I feel like four billion is reallynine billion inflation if that's some crazy
inflation, Like again, like inBack to the Future tour Costay. That
is it's funny because when you firstsaid ten billion, I was like yeah,

(13:16):
But then it's like when you startcomputing tillion dollars Spider Man video game.
I really liked it a lot morethan you. No, I just
I was like, yeah, you'llmake that back, like, like it's
funny. I think I put alittle bit of um like human spirit into
like the corporations by saying like that'sthe right thing to do. Yeah,

(13:39):
just eat the ten bill. We'regonna make it. I mean we're Disney,
wear Action and Marvel. Yeah, like we're gonna be fine. Guys
if if they get Spider Man back, he's the last one, right.
Oh I guess whole coolk is stilltied up at Universal. Oh really yeah,
that's why there are no Hulk moviesafter the first Hulk in the MCU

(14:01):
uh Universal did not play well becausethey had the same agreement that Sony does
with Spider Man. And if yougo and rewatch that one, which I
don't recommend, is it is totallyeverything about it is different. It's like,
is this even U? Is thiseven an MCU movie? Like the
the art style, the background, the lighting. Everything doesn't look like it's

(14:22):
from the same swath of films, and I think that was a universal's input
and I think being the more Creaturesshop, Yeah, I was gonna say,
they wanted very much like a monsteryeah, and they're like, well,
we want to make a monster movie. Like, well, no,
we're making Marvel movies. They're like, well, we're not going to do
it. So that's why Hulk andbe in the movies. But you you
don't have Hulk Hulk movie. That'swhy you don't have an incredible Hulk movie.
Wow. Yeah, that's in.And I wonder if U is it

(14:46):
Kevin fag is that he's the guythat's like this page Kevin f Kevin f
is uh the Kevin f dot com? The uh does it? Like?
Is he? Like he probably wasn'ta around for all this, but I
just feel like at that point, you're here, like why why did we
why did we go to Fox?And to think he was I think what

(15:09):
he did was look around because hepredates the Disney buyout of it, yeah
on Marvel Studios, and I thinkwhat he did was look and go.
There are these properties. The Avengerproperties, for the most part, are
unpurchased. No one's bought x Menor the X Men and Spiderman have been
sold, but iron Man nobody seen. Like when iron Man came up,
do you remember the reaction in twothousand and eight of like an iron Man

(15:31):
movie? Yeah? Really, Iwas so stoked because he was my favorite,
right, but the average everybody elsewas like iron Man, Hey,
what's an iron Man hold an industry? Yeah? Exactly. It's interesting when
when you see, like there's aJohn Favreau does a show called The Chef's
Table, Yeah, and he goesaround and cooks with people that he knows,
and I can't. I saw itsomewhere he was doing this thing and

(15:54):
they were talking about they had Robertdown a junior, and Tom Holland and
a bunch of the directors um allaround this table and they were eating a
nice meal and it kept coming upand they said, like, one of
the funny things was that when westarted to put together iron Man, everybody
was like, oh, you know, like and then all of a sudden
it came out and it's like ohoh oh, and then it just like
everything that it start flew up fromthe Yeah. Yeah, And I would

(16:17):
love to know and now this generationof kids, right, it's interesting because
you look at Far from Home. They all see that's interest. They all
see iron Man as the most importantAvenger, right right, right right,
They all like that is he's thetree trunk that everything is kind of growing.
We would it could it be arguedthat before Iron Man movie was made,

(16:37):
that was that the assumption. Iwould argue that it would be Captain
America if you just read the comicbooks about the Avengers in the comics,
they did a good job of representingin the film. In the comics there's
three that have always been Avengers andtheir iron Man, Thor and Captain America.
Those are those are the Avengers. And then they have other people cycle
in and out of it. Sothen that relationship between them is pretty accurate
in the film of like Captain Americanscharge, iron Man is actually the guy

(17:02):
who pays for everything and has thetech, but he's you know, off
the handle. And then you haveThor that kind of comes in with these
cosmic things and is overpowered but disappearslike all that all that's pretty accurate.
Okay, yeah, all right, well I I stand corrected. We should
take a break. Stuffs coming back. Oh boy, when we're back,
mob, we're gonna play stop onthe Internet. It's happening right after this.

(17:56):
Did you know that the guys fromTalk Talk were immortal? I did
not. His life never ends,is what he just told me. Are
they in the upcoming Immortals? Yes? How can we talk about all that
Spider Man not discuss the plethora ofMCU movies and TV shows that are coming
out? It all confuses me.Yeah, and every time I get on
the show, I sound like anold man who's completely disconnected. There's a

(18:18):
maybe Scarlet Witch movie exactly. Maybethat's who I really am. What a
night. And I don't know whyit's funny. I'm not I would.
I don't know that I would considermyself to be anti feminist. But I
was a little perturbed that they're likeNanalie Portman's gonna be Thor, that's that's
Cannon. I know. But it'sjust like, but we just I feel

(18:41):
like, here's the thing. Andmaybe it's just a product of people doing
a good job, but I feellike I'm like, we just got we
got funny Thor. Yeah you knowwhat I mean, Yeah, we got
funny Thor. And now it's gonnabe it does feel like that, correct,
Nally, Portman can't be funny.I don't. Oh, I disagree
with that. Really Portman's funny. No, okay, all right, let's
let's bring around natalie apartment. Comeon, let's go to Stump. I

(19:07):
need Carmen in Stump doesn't make sense, stump it up? All right,
So we need Carmen. And yeah, Carmen. Oh are they order?
No, they're not. Carmon's noton there. No, she's not.
Wait, snooke ms gallan. That'snot the same person. There's diamond Jack,
Matt, and somebody named SPH.I don't know what that Sph is.

(19:30):
Uh, grab Matt. All right, and then that's it. Hello,
Matt? Are you there now?He is? Matt? Are you
there? Yes? Hello Matt?Hi. How good are you with Pokemon?
Not as good? I know whata Pokemon is, and I know
some of them. I've been playingPokemon Go a lot recently. All right,

(19:51):
great, you're good. Name name. I want you to identify your
um, your combatant. You toname your opponent from our discord. You
got diamond Jack or Cody or Sph. For anybody who hangs out it has
to be Cody until we could hearthem both. I feel like I rustled
with myself on a daily basis.Wait, Carmen's Carmon's here. Oh,

(20:15):
Carmon's here, all right, byMatt? All right, Cody left too,
Okay, you can bring that back. Can't stay, Matt can't stay?
Yeah, you know what. Ikind of think it's gonna because,
um, you guys, we're gonnacancel you guys. That's what we're gonna

(20:36):
doh code. Cody put himself inthe room and then he left. Cody's
bods are out of control. Now, Cody, come on back. You
and Matt can team up against Carmen. Oh literally what they do every other
There you go, there you go. Now we left for Spas just by
themselves, and I don't know whothat is. All right, So here's
the game. Everybody has a jobin this game. Justin Your job is

(21:00):
to keep track of the score andplay amusing drops. You're not you're not
playing this game, and you'll findout why I'm gonna win. Full full
disclosure. I'm like three and ahalf shots in right now. This is
gonna be great. That needs tobe a drop. Um, all right,
my job is to read my Son'sPokemon Super Deluxe Essential Handbook that I

(21:26):
am now displaying on our Twitch channel. There are over eight hundred characters and
facts in here. What's going tohappen in my job is I'm going to
flip to a random page and I'mgoing to read you the description of that
Pokemon. I'm going to replace theword of the name of the Pokemon and
in the description with uh, youknow, the some generic word there,

(21:48):
and you have to tell me whatPokemon it is. If you get a
right, you get a point. If you get a wrong, the other
team has a chance to steal youcan you can phone a friend or something,
and maybe I'll give you some otherstats because it has fighting type,
it is a height, weight, metric height metric weight, a list of
possible moves, and then I have, uh, you know, if you

(22:11):
really don't know what we're talking about, I can give you what they evolved
to or from. So this isa response Carmen to um to. You
said that we did one Pokemon triviaquestion back in the old early days of
Stump, but it wasn't a Polonquestion. These are all Pokemon questions.
Are you ready? Let's get it. Do it? I feel bad because

(22:33):
yeah, I somehow have misplaced themusic bed that I would play after that.
Oh no, all right, we'regonna have to do it to this.
Uh that's Cannons. So this isCannons. Is all right? Gentlemen,
you are the visiting team, soyou can choose to go first or

(22:55):
second half? Second half? Allright, second half? Garments? Say
when? And I'm gonna stop flippingthrough this book. She's three shots in?
When? Okay? This Pokemon communicateswith its friends by creating light patterns
with the spots on its body. The lights also served to draw foes in

(23:18):
and mesmerize them while this Pokemon preparesan attack. What is this Pokemon?
Are we allowed to know? Likewhat generation it's from? I don't have
that information in this book? Andyou can keep going. Um and this
has Pokemon from every generation. They'reover eight hundred possible pokemons. This book

(23:42):
was printed in by Sklaskin in twothy eighteen, copyright ninety five to twenty
eighteen. So don't are you googlingit? No, no, no,
I'm recounting spots on its body andit creates light and draws in other Pokemon

(24:06):
with those light spots. Yep um, it sounds like a water Pokemon.
That was also a lecture, hum, go on until it is not hunt
tail. Sorry, all right, gentleman, over to you to answer this

(24:30):
one. Yes you do, Cody, Do you have any rational ideas,
any idea ideas? Three? Two, one out of time? That's a
solid answer. No, ink ink, All right, next time, I'll
give you what it evolves into andmaybe that'll help you. Okay, say

(24:51):
when, say when to stop when? Okay, that'll be Justin's job.
All right, gentlemen, here isyour clue. It's unusual to see this
pokemon flying around during the day. They generally sleep until dusk and do their
flight at night. They keep aneye out for sparkly objects, which they
sometimes offer as a gift to atrainer. This pokemon. I want to

(25:18):
say, I don't know about thewhole shiny thing, but I don't think
that's it. You've got something likea job in the brain cell tonight,
So let's go. I feel likeI've I've played Pokemon going. There's like
owls and it sounds like an owl, like knocked owl hooter. I can't
remember it evolved into anything. Iwill tell you that, but you lose

(25:42):
a point a half point, yougo down, You go down to a
half point? Fair, fair, all right? It evolves into a horde
a crow haunt crow what I don'tunderstand you? Wait? Wait crow,
count crow. You speak Spanish.I've caught that a few times. I

(26:04):
don't know mur murcrow is correct? All right, we need more. Let's
stick the music intensity up a notch. The love ballot is it's not enough.
I need something more intense so Ican have two legendaries man bullets over
here. All right, Carmen, say when Wait, we'll wait for Justin

(26:27):
to change the music track. Herewe go. It's gonna be Oh that's
good. That's good, all right, say when? Okay? All right?
Uh, this Pokemon's internal fire andsoft feathers make it a purple perfect
cuddle buddy. In battle. Itcan breathe flames and shoot fireballs. Name

(26:52):
this Pokemon. I fixed it.I'm gonna ask for that volution all right.
This this pokemon has four evolutions toit. Uh, it's um.
The one we're talking about right nowis the basic form. So I will
give you the next stage up,which is combuskin. Okay, So torchic

(27:15):
torchick is correct. Point, comeon, come on, all right,
justin did you get it? Great? When? Okay, I keep flipping
to the same wins. Okay,I keep flipping to the same middle of
the book. All right, now, gentlemen, this pokemon's horns shine and

(27:41):
all the colors of the rainbow. It is said that this legendary Pokemon can
share the gift of endless life.Fine, and you can keep going.
Can't keep that? Is it?I will tell you this because it is
a legendary Pokemon. You probably oryou know this. It does not evolve,
so you're getting into it now. You're in the groove, all right.

(28:11):
Um, there's like a unicorn oneor something, isn't there. I
don't know. If I don't know, everybody had done it free unicorn at
some point. Christ Um, thisis uh, I don't know what unicorn
backwards. Maybe they would have donethat. Yeah, we'll go with rock

(28:37):
Canne. I'm sorry, that iswrong, Carmen. This is a fairy
type Pokemon. What is it?Fairy type legendary horn? Uh so it's
from generation six or seven. Um, God, I hate you because she's

(29:00):
going to clean our clocks. Thatis correct, Well done, guys.
All right, Justin, thank you. Justin's gonna look at these four pictures
and choose which one is next. He's examining, all right, M carmen.

(29:22):
Uh. In battle, this Pokemonuses the water bubble that surrounds its
head as a weapon, headbutting itsopponents or cutting off their air. When
it's not battling, it uses thebubble as a shield to protect protect its
weaker companions. What is this pokemonname? Dropper? Oh? God?
Uh? From Generation seven? Ibelieve, and I think it's a water

(29:48):
bug guy. I don't know hisname. I don't know, I don't
remember for his name something. It'slike a big water spider. I believe.
That is correct. You're absolutely right. Uh, if you weren't,
if you weren't, three shots inall right, over you, gentlemen.

(30:12):
What is this pokemon's name? Theonly one I could think of was a
spear rac But that's just like anormal bug type. That's not Yeah.
The one I'm thinking of is likea water strider, not like a serpent.
It's like a rack a wreck.Qu That is absolutely correct. Don't

(30:32):
call it a call back that Ireally because I don't like because I don't
like spiders and people like she theyhacked a game. Not yeah, yeah,
yeah, the content, Yeah, exactly, which one's next? Justin?
Uh yeah, yeah, you choosethat one, all right, gentlemen,

(30:53):
all right, the hooked stem behindits head. Let's this pokemon hang
from a tree branch to sleep.Sometimes it falls to the ground during the
night. What's this boat game on? Carmon? Oh no, you give
me a second, Give me asecond. Let me just give me a
second of Google this. That's justwar. What is it? Um?

(31:19):
That's why I have two legendaries.I'm sorry, over to your Carmen.
Is it bur It is not?Oh no, what you got gentlemen?
Uh, here's another clue. Itis the middle It is the middle evolution.
Its basic form is bell sprout. It's uh. Stage two is victory

(31:44):
bell? Uh no, I notI got would? I mean I've heard
of it. I didn't think ofthat. That is wrong, Carmon,
Is it for a quarter point?Wait? I thought? Wait? Wait
were I didn't name it yet? Those are the Those are the evolutions.

(32:04):
What's the first one? It startsas a bell sprout and it ends as
a victory bell. Somebody said Draculain the chat, I have them.
No, you already had your chance. You didn't get it right. You
guys don't know whatever Carmen do youknow? Sorry? Bell spro and then
victory bell. It's weeping bell.It is weeping bell. I didn't know
you didn't name all right, justin. Your two jobs were to play drops

(32:29):
and keep score. What's the score. The score is Carmen eight the gentleman
point five? Okay, point five? I thought that was a drop.
Good day, A right? Uh, let's see uh sebreaker? Yeah?

(32:49):
Do we need a teak and ahalf points? How about how about I
read something and then you ding inwhen you know it? What's your name?
No? Hang on, we needlike we need like a delay like
no handicapping and pokemon no no,and you guys have to ring in with
your name, which is losers.Oh you know, here's what we'll do.

(33:09):
Um yeah, okay, I likethis version. I'm in a name
the basic and then you have togive me the evolution, all right,
and then we'll do the bell ringinggentlemen. Uh swine, nub pillow swine,
and then it becomes what, ohI haven't got it yet, take

(33:32):
us take us home home. Idon't know it. I'm only one.
I haven't evolved. Take us homewith other pilot tusk, I don't know,
Carmen, educate them. That iscorrect? All right, So Carmen,

(33:55):
yours is extra difficult. I'm goingto give you the basic. You're
gonna give me the rest of thetree, ready, and if you can
do this, you win the game. Otherwise the guys can keep creeping along
with really easy questions like what's aPikachu, Carmen. This Pokemon has four

(34:16):
stages. The first is Treaco, give us the evolution, Triaco gro vile,
septial make a step that well, that was the end of the game,
yea, Carmen wins. Oh yeah, all right, Carmen. Uh

(34:40):
how how did that fair in Pokemontrivia? Do you feel justified? The
sight? And she was and shewas three shot? Come on, come
on, I am impressed that youknow all that stuff backed she would still
be this let's be honest, Soshe could be dead and she'll still know
more about POKEMONA shook that Cody newthe fucking Hawk Club whatever, Spider,

(35:06):
but he didn't. He kind ofknew it. It is a it is
a pretty cool looking Uh that washonestly a big guest. And the only
reason I know it is because everybodyaround me knows I don't like spiders,
so they tease me with it,and I'd be like, yeah, that's
a that's a creepy looking Gregg andPokemon. That's neat cool. Yeah.
Okay, thanks, thanks gentlemen, thank you for playing. Please leave the

(35:29):
chat as Carmen now gets to sayor do anything that she wants Okay by
in the in the classics stump traditionof the show is now yours, Carmen,
What would you like to say?Um? I hope everyone is having
a lovely day. You are?You were so drunk? What what shots

(35:55):
are you having tonight? Um?It's just just vodka, just well done.
At this point, my glass isabout like half vodka half cranberry juice.
So when you're when you're doing shots, are you knocking backshot? You're

(36:15):
just kind of sipping on some vodkawith cranberrs. I yeah, I have
the cranberry juice and then I toppedit off with like a shot worth of
vodka and then I took a bigold swig from it and like it hadn't
settled or an I didn't mix itin or anything, so it's pretty much
just like all vodka. So thatwas like the first shot. And then
I also hadn't eaten and since, like you know, one o'clock earlier,

(36:40):
what is the occasion for this party? Um? I was actually watching a
movie with some other friends another server, and it is quite a doozy.
Oh, you're watching a movie withsome other friends in another server and listening
to this show. Yes, grandpa, it's called the internet. I don't.

(37:02):
I mean people were messaging me totell me to come in here.
Oh, I'm glad they did.You made it worth it. Yes,
thanks for a movie. You'll behanging around for the after party. Can't
talk a movie. Thank you,Karen, Thank you, Grandpa. Let's
take a break, regret so manybuttons by we come back. How about

(37:27):
some Tales from Terry. I thoughtwe canceled that and friends? They're friends?

(38:15):
Yeah, they're friends to Tales fromTerrio? Are these friends other games?
They are? Like StarCraft? Yeah? Because if you were a call
the last time we were here twoweeks ago, I have not been playing
much. No, yes, ifno, it was because you don't play
Tales from Terrio with him? Um, As you may or may not remember,

(38:38):
I've been taking a little hiatus fromGuild Wars and playing some StarCraft two.
Guild Wars two is such a badgame because I've played it to the
point where it started to feel likea job, and I wanted to love
it rather than it feels like anoblig If you love something, you let
it go or just not play itfor thirty minutes every day. Was this

(39:00):
a conscious uncoupling? Then it was. I came to the realization that the
reason I was playing it so doggedlyevery day it was because of this segment
on the show, and I neededto only play it because I wanted to
play it, And so I tooka little break and last week I played
a lot more StarCraft. I leveledup my co op character to fifteen,

(39:22):
and apparently they max out. Also, the game gets super easy because the
matches don't get any more difficult, but you get very tough and you become
overpowered, so you're leveled. You'recapped out at fifteen, and then you
can get masteries and other stuff thathappened through it. But I literally could
like log back into my Netflix whileplaying the game and not lose anything like

(39:45):
had to like put my credit cardinformation into Netflix at the same time in
order and did not lose this matchbecause I'm so overpowered at this point.
Wait, you have a Netflix accountand I and you also have like a
profile on my kill No I,uh, yes, we have. We

(40:06):
have a single screen through T Mobileand that's right. Um. So uh
at the uh so at the sametime? No, yes, yeah,
no, well yes both an so, um you can take us off your
Netflix I understand we both we usedboth at the same time. The show

(40:28):
play gild Wars. All right,so um this upcoming Friday, uh is
Guild Wars is big announcement on what'sgoing to happen in the next season.
The packs is happening on starting Friday, and they have a big event in
Seattle at nine am Pacific's time wherethey're going to talk about the future Spider
Man coming to Guild. I hopeso and um uh and so in in

(40:52):
advance of that. This week isactually Guild Wars is seventh anniversary. It
was launched seven years ago this week. Uh some my character turned seven.
She's actually older than my own sonbecause my wife was super pregnant when the
game launched, and I was likethat not even kids is wonderful I can
play for actually like say that herbirthday is seven, yeah, yeah,

(41:14):
her birthday. On her birthday, the game sends her a birthday present and
it has neat things in it andthis year so the past few years,
now is the gift that she getsfor her birthday? Is that like customizable
to her or is it like it'san on the in law side of the
family that doesn't really know you feelcompelled to get you something. It's really
good stuff. So the birthday timesthey always have really great stuff available and

(41:37):
everybody get the same birthday give thisyear, no, because in the past
you've gotten there's like an elite backpackthat you only get once a year and
you can choose between five of them. So I was really exciting. Now
everybody, you've seen all the backpacksand stuff for years. You've also gotten
a level up to either level twentyand then the next year it was level
thirty, level forty, level fifty, level sixty. So I was like,

(41:59):
this year, will there be anautomatic level up to level seventy eighty
is the cap? So no,they didn't make a level up to level
seventy, so you have to stillplay to level sixty and then keep going.
But they had some other fun thingsin their die packs and that kind
of stuff. But the really excitingpart was that I got not one,
but two unique Black Lion Trader items. Then these usually cost real world money,

(42:25):
and they were gifts to my character. So she got a randomly,
she got a pair of gliders thatare super cool that look like their pieces
like a time like pieces of clockthat kind of like stretch out and then
it extend all these electrical waves aletter fly through the air. And then
also this great set of armor thatI never would have bought, what was

(42:47):
super happy to get for absolute free. And then there are other things in
the store that are deeply discounted forthis week. So it's been a renaissance
of Guild Wars. I'm back everybody. I'm playing the game. I'll tell
you what. That has been weirdto take this much time off because I
have legitimately and not been playing itfor about six weeks, and to get

(43:07):
back into it. But even wewere doing the show, how often did
you play it? Well, funnystory, I did the math so you
can type the word slash age intothe chat box in Guild Wars at any
point in time, and then itwill tell you how long you've been playing
you know, how many days andhow many hours you've been playing the game
in those many days. So Ibroke down the math and would you please

(43:30):
guess, on average, in thelast seven years, how many how much
time every day? On average? On average, I have played that game
in seven years two two hours, two hours. So some days I'm playing
it for eight because other days I'mpaying for ten. Based on your response,
I was thirty three minutes, No, you were rights two hours.

(43:52):
No, No, actually it wasforty two minutes. Was what the math
came out to. Forty two minutes, which I thought was interesting. At
first, I was like, oh, wow, that's a considerable amount of
time that all average, I'm everyday playing forty two minutes worth of the
games. But then I thought aboutit. I was like, the average
person, if you're gonna watch TV, yeah, you're gonna watch it for
at least a drama, right, exactly if you take out the commercials.

(44:12):
I was like, most people findtime to watch at least an hour of
television every day, if not more, Yeah, exactly, If not a
lot more, and then some dayswhere you too busy you don't watch any
TV. It definitely would even outcaught up on the handmade stale right now,
So I want to I wish therewas a way to know, like
in a year, what my averageamount of television and movie because I don't
watch a ton of TV. Iplay guildbars. So I'm like, if

(44:34):
I'm not doing that, what howmuch time am I spending and watching too?
And I not being properly entertained? You know, who are you not?
Jo Jane? You know probably knowsas Mark Zuckerberg, he probably has
an idea of what you're doing.Yeah, yeah, and then he's gonna
be able to predict whether or notI want to buy a house. Yeah.
I had this happen one time whereI was talking to somebody about getting
something and I'm still trying to figureout if it's coincidental, but people on

(44:59):
TV show have me second guessing this. The next day, I got an
email like marketing that thing to me, that's absolutely true. I was like,
yeah, no, that's right, that's happening. Yeah what what?
Um? So, speaking of packs, which has happening next week, are
you familiar with games Con. No, what would would you believe me if

(45:21):
I told you that it is tentimes the size of E three? I
would not. It is where isGermany? It happened last week. Germany
smaller than California assignment. I'm gonnabeg to differ. It is a an
enormous event. Is to take upthree quarters of Germany, I think.
So Okay, okay, there's actuallya state in Germany called games Con.

(45:43):
Okay, unlike E three that ismore marketing based. It is a legitimate
game convention. So imagine like ComicCon, but with gamer see. Yeah,
i'm learning Spanish. Um. Soa lot of great news came out
of that. One of the thingsthat came out was a game called rad

(46:05):
which I actually twitched last week.Did you catch this at all? It's
super cool. I heard you talkedabout it the last time we did a
show about how stoked you were toplay it. Oh I did, yeah,
unless I'm oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. I'm
confusing this because it came out umat nine o'clock. No, No,
that can't be right, because youwere talking about on the last show we
did that you were going to betwitching it. Really Yeah, my Timeline

(46:28):
is all screwy in my head writtenbecause I thought I canceled the show and
started playing it. Anyway, it'sfun. It's a game for our podcast
because it takes place in this eightiesstyle universe. Yeah. Yeah, But
what's what's so interesting about it tookme a while to get my head around
it is that it is a nonit's it's a roguelike game, so it

(46:49):
happens, uh, you know, procedurally generated, so that takes a little
getting us too. Sometimes there's toomany bad guys or whatever. But also
the um the leveling tree, theXP tree is completely random, so it's
sort of like drawing cards off ofa deck. You don't know what power
you're gonna get. So one ofthe runs I did, I actually got
twenty minutes in, did not havea useful power, ended up in the

(47:14):
boss battle against enemies that I hadno way of defeating, and I lost,
and I was that was it notsound like fun? That was that
was my twenty minutes. Then Idid it again and had an incredible draw
hand. Essentially I was able toplay for an hour, got further in
the game that I ever did reallylooked like I was gonna win, and
then just out of nowhere, Iended it out of an area where it

(47:34):
just it decided to spawn too manyenemies. I was overwhelmed and that was
it. I turned it off andI haven't played it since. Yeah,
I don't, I don't. Idon't. I'm not surprised by that.
Not that I'm saying this isn't anattack on your character, not at all.
I'm just saying, like, thatdoes not seem like a wise way
to build a game. It's Idon't know, rival, but they What
I like about it is that itis different because there are so much thought

(47:57):
put into skill trees and experience, and you know, almost to the point
where you you're not you don't actuallyget to decide what's next because they've kind
of like, well, you're gonnaneed this power for this next campaign mission,
so you better buy that. Andif you spend, if you grind
a bunch of time, maybe youcan have these other things first, but
you're gonna hinder your game. Youjust don't like the idea of my experience

(48:19):
being so connected to luck, Andthat's exactly it. But that's the rule
of the game because it's about randommutations that it's all within the world that
you don't know what random thing isgoing to happen, and some of the
powers are like, oh, I'veonly had that once, the ability to
see where power ups were within theworld. And that's how I was able
to survive for so long because Ihad this random ability to go, oh,

(48:43):
there's a thing over there that Ineed. Then sometimes I'll randomly get
the ability to shoot fireballs. That'sgreat. When I also get the random
ability to PLoP out tiny minions ofmy head on tentacles and they go fight,
send them out, hit them withfireballs, I can live forever for
that one. That's a really greatability. Sometimes I get the ability to
um jump hi not as not asuseful, not as useful power like would

(49:10):
you find out the ability do youcurse? When that happens? Then yes?
Sometimes come Then in level two inWorld two, they start to give
you negative mutations. As if thegame weren't hard enough already. There are
corrupted mutations where suddenly the screen goesred. There's only two colors on the
screen, red and yellow, andthat's that's how you episode flat red and

(49:34):
you're you're flying blind. Yeah, pretty much, you just well the game,
it's like monocha. It's a dualchromatic bike chromatic. There's two colors
red and then everything's outlining yellow andthat's how you see the world. Was
it there a movie called Rad inthe eighties with Christians later and he was
it to biking or something And youwant to say, hell, no,
Well I don't think that's the thingis that there was no skateboarding. But

(49:55):
I remember I thought, uh no, what the movie. I'm probably messing
it up and it's not worth thetime. Right now, everything you do
is worth the time. Negative onthat one ghost right? Yeah? Rax
movie? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. Does it have Christian Slater
though screenplay director? Oh Man,I got to look at the doctor Seuss.

(50:19):
Wow, I didn't know he wrote, Yeah, eighties slasher movies.
Yeah, absolutely did. And there'sPennywise, uh stars, Bark Carner.
No, no Christian Slater in thismovie. I was wrong about that,
Kurt Russell, but I was rightabout it being a BMX movie. What's
so interesting about Rad's timing is thatit is a very similar game to No
Man's Sky in terms of this likekind of retro sci fi universe, just

(50:44):
not as campy and weird, butit has. I've been playing both because
No Man Sky had a huge updatethis month, and I the same feeling
of like survival is there, butrad is far more intense because the stakes
are when you die, the gameis it's overdone. When in No Man
Sky, when you die, youlet the checkpoints where you start from,

(51:04):
No, no, there are not. What is this nineteen eighty six after?
I think that's what they're going for, is they want you to feel
like you did. Do you rememberthe stress that if you died at the
Super Mario Brothers that was it.There were no continues, that was not
a thing. If you hit thereset button, it was lost. I
just I just said, extrapolating atheory. Remember the infamous up, up,

(51:28):
down, down, left, right, left, right, aba select
start, that's my password and everythingI've ever year not where you get ninety
nine lives in contra unintended right.I wonder if what if that, like
the popularity of that is what spawnedthe idea of continues, Like what if
that revolutionized games with oh people, people don't want to fail. I would

(51:50):
like to hope that it was agood um like game minded people were able
to watch testers and go, oh, we've made it too hard, right,
we need to create ways to makethis more fun. I mean,
because have you ever played a gamewhere you've made a game anything like that,
where you've like designed anything. Um, there are a lot of like
editor games that's it's a little bigplan and we did a little bit of

(52:12):
that. Oh so that's a goodexample, Like in a little Big Planet.
It's often when you play user generatedcontent of they just front loaded with
so many tricks and traps and somany puzzles, so many things that are
impossible to do because you think, well, this is you know, you
as the creator, are like, well, I got to make this interesting,
so I got to load it upand make it hard. And then
you play it as a brand newset of eyes and you're like, this

(52:36):
is impossible. I'm I'm overly challenged. It's not fun. I'm not playing
it. And I would like tothink that they kind of recognize, you
know, it would help sales ifpeople didn't hate playing our games, and
then and then now, So radis the reaction to that. I think
it's a it's a it's a callbackto that. There is a from what
I've experienced, there is a smallum continuity element to it that at the

(53:01):
end of every level, you goback to the hub world and you've collected
money. In their world, it'scassette tapes, and you can deposit those
in a bank and so they andthen they live there. Uh, and
then the next if you die, they're in they're preserved so that that information
is safe. So you could storeup a bunch of cassette tapes and begin

(53:22):
a world or begin a hard worldby withdrawing those, buying upgrades and going
in with a lot more bandwidth forBut to do that you'd have to play
it a bunch and fail a bunchbefore. You have to grind to get
all the cassette or try, youknow, try to make it or put
an right. Yeah, do oneof the one or the other. It's

(53:43):
it's interesting enough, there's enough likefunness to it that I've enjoyed it for
now. I don't think it's goingto join the pantheon of favorite games I've
ever played, but it's an amusingdiversion for twenty dollars, which I recommend
it. No Man Sky, though, has been pretty much the same.
I would love to know why thegame is so different do you never played

(54:05):
the previous version. The the gamehas changed so dramatically in it since in
its four years release that I hadto start a new game because they had
changed the economics of it of whatyou need to harvest to move your ship
around and get off that Now thethings that I have are useless and the
things that I need are unattainable. So my character is literally I'm like,
it should not be this hard.My character is literally stranded in this spot

(54:28):
because the game is not spawning thethings. It would be like, um,
it would be like somebody born inthe fifteenth century. Yeah, just
being dropped in twenty nineteen. That'sexactly it. Like, I don't know
where's my mutton. Yeah, it'slike a k person. Yeah, in
theory could fight a way to live, but the fifteenth century aristocrat, yeah

(54:51):
can Existeen they had social constructs, but they don't know how to lever can't.
Yeah. That's a that's a good, uh perspective, I think,
because we off to think if you'rein the past, you come the future,
life's easy, Like, well,no, it's not, caveman,
it's the same emit. I mean, he'd probably end up in a zoo
remember Encino Man. Yeah, thisis zoo Guy feel home. You know

(55:12):
Chipanzee the Chimpanzee. Last thing Iwanted to tell you. Do you know
the game, um, The MightyQuest for Epic Loot. No, so
this will be the great punchline toour episode today. You've been so patient,
You've been doing such a great job. Justin. Oh, I thought
you're talking about this. I'm reallyproud of you. I like doing this.
Oh you do good? Good? You look tired. Do you want
to take a nip? Yeah?Good night, justin. I'll talk to

(55:35):
you my listeners. So um BoobySoft, who you may know from Rayman
and a bunch of billion dollar wonderfulgames. Do you remember Raymond? I
do remember Beautiful Soft from Assassin's Creed? Yes? Great. So Back in
twenty thirteen twenty fifteen, they hada PC game called The Mighty Quest for
Epic Loot, and they recently poortedit over to the iPhone and the original

(55:58):
game it was a which I'm prisethis game element is not on the iPhone.
It's a game where you go around. You start out and like with
a buckethead and boxer shorts, andyou go and do quests gain loot and
then level up your character. Meanwhile, you build a castle back at your
home ground, and then other playerstry to storm your castle, like you
build the level for other people tocome and storm. They gain loot,

(56:22):
you gain experience, so on andso forth. So they've they've recently poured
it over to the iOS but withoutthe castle building part, which is fascinating
because so many games use that mechanicalready on phones, but for whatever reason,
that's not on the iOS version. But yes, you know, I've
been in this mode of like tryinggood high end mobile games and this seemed

(56:44):
like a fun one to test outso my phone. Um, and uh,
it's very colorful as pretty good mechanicsand stuff, and I was really
into it. Um. You know, as I said, I think a
few episodes ago that I've I've givena bad crack at iOS games Soft is
making this kind of game. Well. Um. One of the reasons we
didn't make a podcast in the monthof July is because I was on a

(57:06):
plane with family on a vacation. On that I brought my Vita because I
like to roll deep with twenty thirteentechnology. Early adopter sun Come on,
watch you there, you're never letgo. So I you know, I'm
on the plane and I actually satnext to my doctor on the flight home.
Was super weird. He also hada Vita, he did, so

(57:29):
I pulled up my Vita. We'relike, hey, what's going on?
And I pull up Rayman, whichis another movie Soft game as I mentioned
earlier, and within sixty seconds Igo, oh, no, this is
infinitely better that any iOS game I'veplayed, hands down, Like there's just
no, there's no comparison. Ithink the truth is that I hadn't been
playing my Vida enough that I waslike, oh, this is good,

(57:50):
and look there are great games thatI played, some very qualified, instant
fun games. To drop it anddrop out of it still does not come
anywhere close to the high quality gamingexperience that the Vita had. I played
The Wolf among Us when I wason vacation, a Telltale game on the
Vita. Yeah, I played oneepisode. I was like, this is
great. Yeah, like, it'sjust it's fun too. That not on

(58:12):
the phone though, key Maybe Idon't know. I'm just saying like,
yeah, I just don't know howit's it's fascinating to I mean, I
get the phone, I get thesimplicity because then you don't have to carry
two devices. Like for the longesttime, when you were hardcore Vita,
you would walk around with both ofthis. I did. Yeah, only
recently stop caring with you at alltimes. Yeah, I just realized I

(58:32):
wasn't playing it because I usually shouldbe doing work. And yeah, and
what's funny is that for a longtime I've been for and by a long
time, I mean the last yearand a half, but I've been carrying
my bag with my laptop and aniPad. And then recently I've just found
the ability to do a lot ofmy work over my phone. It's not
as convenient as a laptop. Yeah, but you know what I mean.

(58:53):
So now I'm leaving the house andI'm leaving my bagage. That must be
