Speaker 1 (00:26):
It's the Internet. You're busy, Let's do this. Welcome to
the Game Mess Decides Podcast. This is the podcast where
we decide everything about the world of video games so
you never have to think for yourself. I'm your host,
Jeff Grubb and with me is Mike Manati. In today's episode,
you can burn the clown makeup. Double O seven game
is looking pretty good and we're gonna do the mount
(00:48):
rushmore of Metroid vingam mechanics or power ups or whatever.
We'll figure it out once we get there. But first, Mike,
how are you doing.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
I'm doing great. I just played for our of Silksong,
did the first four hours in a little spare change
there on giant bomb dot com. It's funny, like I
never allow myself to get excited for Soilksong much because
it was always me or something. This soon started playing,
I was like, oh sweet, all night, this is us.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Uh yeah. It seems like you know a lot of
people kind of doing what you're doing, taking a lot
of time today to play that game. I've not been
able to see like the early buzz yet. Have you guys,
Like I know you had chat going the whole time.
I bet that's all happy. I think people that I
would expect to begin hearing some grumblings if there were
actually issues. At this point, everyone just seems to be
(01:41):
happy to be playing the game. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
I think everyone's just having a good time. And it
seems prettyxy. I mean, I'll tell you when I played
it seems very good, just incredibly snappy, so surprising additions
to mechanics. I don't know if you want to like
lead with that or you want to talk about Silksong
and our usual what we've been playing segment.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Yeah, no, well we are going to lead with that
and yeah, so we'll kind of do what we've been
playing up top for you to talk about that. You
know what, let's get into it. Thank you for joining us.

and subscribe to us on Twitch and that'll get you
a lot of the same benefits. All right, let's get
into the big topics of the week, starting with Silk Song,
which took down the e shop at Steam this morning
as people were slamming the servers to get to that
game the second it launched. I think you were checking
(03:23):
earlier the Steam charts said it was at like five
hundred thousand concurrent players or something like that. I wonder
where it's at now. I can bring that up as well.
But yeah, a lot of people playing this game as
was to be expected. It really is. It really does
feel like the biggest launch of the year.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Yeah, it maxed out at about five hundred and thirty
five thousand. It's at about four hundred thousand ish right
about now. But yeah, gosh, it does seem like just
an absolutely huge deal. I mean, taking down Steam and
the e shop. You go to Steam store right now
and it's that giant silk song image plastered over there.
(04:00):
Does feel like a huge release, and it feels like
the biggest indie release of all time absolutely.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Oh yeah, kind of unquestionably, And and you know, in
the running for the biggest launch of this year. You know,
in terms of dollar sales, it's going to be hampered
by that twenty dollars price tag, but that's kind of
a very business way of looking at things. In terms
of just sheer excitement and the people trying to get
in on the party, it's unmatched in a lot of ways. Yeah,
(04:26):
so it's very very big and now. Yeah, like you said,
you played four hours of it, Mike, I don't know,
give us, give us the lowdown. How are you finding
I know you said it was very good. You know,
you played Hollow Night quite some time ago. How does
it compare? How are you where you surprised? Tell us
all about it.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Yeah, it's got pretty much all the positives of Hollow Night,
Like I liked that aesthetic very much. Is kind of
weird dark, not necessarily like brutal, it's kind of dark, offputting.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Like yeah, like nature goth or something like that.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
Yeah, yeah, a little. This juxtaposition between these kind of
cute bug characters and again this kind of creepy world
that you live, and there's something off putting about it,
but it's just it also just feels so snappy this game.
I love the combat in this game and Espress there's
so much it's wild because basically you have like one attack,
but you're not doing big combos and juggling like in
(05:21):
a Prince of Persia or a Shnoby. But it's just
so fast paced and so snappy, and the feedback is
so good that just swinging your little needle around is fantastic.
This game. You kind of have this like dive, not kick,
but you sort of dive with your weapon and then
you get bounce off of enemy, so you're kind of
like diving off and bouncing off and turning around diving
(05:42):
off them again sometimes landing in front of them, hitting them.
So just the acrobatics of it all is so nice.
Already a lot of really fun little side characters. There's
this one I met right away who's just singing a song.
It's kind of happy despite the horribleness of what's going
on around that stuff. Yeah, really really good. I've done
(06:03):
like four major boss fights. They've all been an amazing
challenge and interesting in different ways, like ones like a
giant monster. Another one's tacking from above and doing special things.
They're like the one that is a character of like
my size and skill sets, so it's this really interesting
one on one duel. Just towards the end there, I
discovered this mechanic that changed my like a lot of
(06:25):
the properties on my basic move set, and it's like, oh,
how many of these are there and which I get
to kind of pick which one of these? I like,
that's really interesting. So yeah, it's got a lot of
the positives of Hall Night well mixing things up. I
think that it seems a bit more linear the Metroy
vegiannishe of and at least initially what are like, Okay,
(06:46):
if maybe some people got lost in the first one.
There is that first game. You have this very big
sort of central area and a lot of areas offshooting
from that. Right here, it's much more you kind of
start on the left the next major area, so the
right of that. The next major area is to the
right of that, and that is continuing for a little bit.
I think just now maybe it's breaking out of that
cycle a little bit here and it's going to start
(07:06):
opening up more. So I don't necessarily mind that. I
think it might be something to help players who again
did get lost pretty early on in Hollow Night Whater
if that's something where like eventually some people be like, oh,
I like I prefer the first one because it was
so much more open at the beginning.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
Sure, yeah, you could see that sort of thing.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
Yeah, maybe maybe, but I'm astatic. I think it's I
think it's incredible.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
I think you know, so you said you were a
you did four bosses. There's something like forty bosses in
the game, right.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
I think that sounds about right. It's very centered on
those big boss fights. It gives you know, that's another
thing that you can make compared to Dark Souls, is
that that is sort of the excitement it's getting to
one of them.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
All right, So, like, you know, it feels like you're,
you know, cooking through it, but there's a lot ahead
of you. It does seem like you were saying earlier,
people are positive. Everyone seems to really be happy about
the game. Do you think that, you know, in a month,
we're going to be looking back and say this thing.
You know, I know it's early, but you think we're
gonna be looking back to be like, yeah, it lived
up to the hype, the impossible hype that the game
(08:09):
kind of set for itself. It was able to do
that based on what you've played so far, knowing that
there's a lot more to go.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
No, I think it is unless there's some kind of
weird fumbling in the mid game or end game. I
think everyone's going to be absolutely aesthetic. I think there
will be a lot of people who will think this
is even better. I think that, you know, maybe Game
of the Year nominations. Who knows about winning? Who knows?
It seems like in terms of winning it's still expission
thirty three year for sure. Yeah, Anyway, this sounds ridiculous
(08:36):
talking about that for a game like just four hours
of but gosh, I think they just get it. I
think they just get it.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
Yep. Well, I I'm excited to hop in there myself.
I have not I still have not had time. I've
was doing a bunch of other stuff here. I was
actually trying to get Outlaws up and run on the
switch too, was able to do that. But now that
that's happened, I am going to go and purchase this
game for myself. People really did have some issues buying
this game this morning. I know some people in chat
were saying they had like two and a half hours
(09:03):
it took to actually buy the game.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
Yeah, it took me an hour and a half to
buy it on Steam. On Xbox, I bought it right
away from their page. But yeah, team was completely hammered
with all the requests and stuff.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
It's wow that this game is on game Pass right,
like they did not need to do that. But it
seems like some very old deal.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
Huh. Yeah, I mean how old because I guess it's
like at least two years old, right, because that's when
that deal was announced. So yeah, but I think at
the same time, like that was probably money they were
paid right then. Right now, I know the first game
was always selling really well, so they had plenty of
money and plenty of runway, but you know, why not
(09:45):
just secure something? The thing was never you know, these
things never sell that well in Xbox indie games. This
one is probably would have probably would have been the exception.
But take the guaranteed money from Xbox. Now sell it
on PlayStation Switch, so time it up with the Switch
TS release and then get on Steam. And it's crushing
on those platforms, at least on Switch and on Steam
(10:06):
it's crushing. You know, any games don't also don't sell
that well on PlayStation, but they sell better on PlayStation
than they do on Xbox. What's that? What's that? Christian?
Speaker 3 (10:13):
I do believe this is one of those games people
will buy regardless if it's on like on Xbox on
game Pass, you know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (10:19):
Get clearly this is this is one of.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
Those games where it's gonna be like I need to
have this on my library like forever, not tied to im.
So I think they're gonna still also the pocton on
Xbox for sure.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
And now you know, I've I've definitely played some Hollow
Night one a bunch of times, but I am like
fully good now just to hop right into two without
any reservations, right.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Yeah, like it. I have a little surprise, like, oh,
it's like really testing me combat wise relatively early on.
And part of me wonders if there's an expectation of Yeah,
people have played Hollow Nights, so we don't, you know,
we're gonna rap up the difficulty curve maybe a little
early on.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
I like that and I appreciate that, but maybe that's
one thing that will blind slide people coming into this
one first.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
Yeah, that's honestly, that sounds good to me. I'm ready
to get ready to get in there and get into
you know, I know how much you like that combat.
I want to see it for myself.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
And I was playing on Switch to Thought and it
looked great, looked fantastic, you would hope does.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
I've heard good things about the Switch one version, right,
this is one of those games that I'm sure they
were like, we want this to be really good on
Switch one, So they probably worried about that from the beginning.
All right, let's see here, let's get to some of
this other news. PS five Digital edition specs getting reduced
in Europe. According to rumor, Sony is reportedly planning to
(11:37):
reduce the SSD storage in the new digital edition PlayStation
five consoles sold in Europe from one terabyte to eight
hundred and twenty five gigabytes. That's starting September thirteenth. Apparently,
seems like the reason they're doing this is to keep
the price the same, not having no so they don't
have to do yet another price increase, although of course
this is another way of doing a price increase because
(12:00):
they are spending less on a component and selling it
for the same price. It's shrink flation. Boy, Mike, this
generation truly has been bizarre to see, like all the
price increases and these weird revisions that introduce a worse
version of the console. Not that that's never happened before.
(12:20):
This one still does feel kind of different, though, I
don't know what it is.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Like.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
This doesn't feel like the Genesis three or whatever. This
is a different thing.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
Oh no, exactly, pstre Yeah, when they took away all
the retro stuff from the PS three.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
Right, like yeah those were or like the Canadian Wi
right where like it's like, okay, yeah, the Canadian WI.
We know what this is. This is an end of
life console. They're taking out the Wi Fi and they're
selling it for one hundred and twenty dollars or ninety
nine dollars whatever it is. That's that's just not what
this is. This is them making the current version of
the console worse so they could save just a tiny
(12:52):
bit of money here or there. And you know, I
think they do this maybe because they see people not
really caring about the size of the drive and they
can add more storage easily to a PlayStation five, and
so they're like, this is you get another place where
you can save a buck or two and that's going
to add up. But also probably because components are getting
more expensive, it probably is still a very tough thing
(13:15):
for them to try to like make this thing or
to sell it in a way that they can make
a profit on it. And they're deep into this generation
they want to be making a profit on these systems.
Do you think this like sets up the next generation
to be very similar Mike with PS six, where people
are gonna be like, yo, I'm gonna get the PS
six right away because this thing is probably gonna go
(13:36):
up in price and get worse, so I might as
well buy a Day one.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
I mean, I guess that might be I'm trying to
figure out my philosophy as that or if it's just
oh man, why bother. But there's going to be something exclusive,
especially at launch, that I'm going to want to have. Gosh,
it's just weird. I feel so not great about the
Placetation five in the Xbox series. This whole generation has
just been rough to both of those brands for me. Honestly,
(14:02):
it's been worse for Xbox for sure. Definitely not exactly
feeling fantastic about the PlayStation these days.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
Yeah, you know, I didn't include it here. I'm looking
at I didn't include it here. But there was also
those rumors about the PS six, you know, gonna be
a big boy new console, but there's gonna apparently be
a PS six S and then a portable PlayStation six
that is going to be reduced in power even when dock,
but it like will have more power than a PS five.
(14:30):
Like when I when I hear that, I do wonder.
It's like, I wonder if we get to the next
generation and the PS six is significantly more powerful. But
PlayStation themselves and they tell their third party publisher partners
to just keep kind of like treating the PS five
as the core spec like treat that as the lead platform,
because then it will run on the handheld thing that
(14:52):
they're making, it'll run on all these other devices. It'll
be easier to put them on PC, and then you
could take advantage of some extra power for the PS
six because people still aren't really like third parties especially
aren't really taking advantage of the power of the PS
five in any real way, and they want to keep
like taking these games and putting them elsewhere, like on
the switch to and that would be a lot easier
(15:13):
if they sort of just held these things back a
little bit. Do you think that, like that's a strategy
that might be happening here?
Speaker 2 (15:17):
It is, but like do you need that strategy and
do you need the PlayStation six strategy? Aren't those both
two solutions to the same problem. It's a PS six
S stuff that confuses me because how how cheap can
we even get a PS six S if PlayStation fives
are still costing this much?
Speaker 1 (15:38):
I mean, so my gut here is that the PS
six S is also just five hundred dollars to five
hundred and fifty dollars. I think a PS six X
is basic or PS six S Yeah, it's basically a
PS five with you know, a couple of improved things
here or there that make it a little bit easier
(15:58):
to develop, for give it some extra headroom here or there,
and then it's also cheaper to produce its pro.
Speaker 3 (16:04):
Pro bro Let's fucking go.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
I I mean, honestly, what it is is going to
be like you know what the iPhone se or whatever.
They're They're like, oh, this is the iPhone from like
four years ago, and we've reskinned it and put it
in a new thing, and we're going to sell it
to people who want to save a lot of money.
But basically it's just that iPhone again with some improvements
here or there. I think that's all these companies are
leaning towards doing things more like the way phones work.
(16:28):
And yeah, I don't know eight. You know, this is
a rumor from Moore's Law is Dead, a YouTuber who's
been okay here or there with some AMD stuff, especially
on the PlayStation side of things. Uh. And yet I'm like,
even if this is all true right now, by the
time twenty twenty seven comes around, things could have changed
so much that all these things we're talking about will
(16:50):
have changed internally at Sony, So I don't know, I
don't envy them having to figure out what this strategy
looks like. But you could tell even Sony it's just like,
we can't just do PS six again. And I think
they're probably right because the PS five, for you know,
being all the things that people wanted it to be
this generation is gonna probably end up feeling like a
bit of a disappointment to a lot of people, and
you can't keep doing that. That will compound if the
(17:12):
PS six feels very similar.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
Right, It's not like, you know, we had a PS three,
then we had a PS four right after. I cannot imagine, like,
I just can't imagine what a PS six can do differently,
just like in terms of designing a console, right right,
Like yeah, like just in the ways of like the
ab decisions you may when making a places of five.
It's not like, well, if we did A instead of B,
things would have been better. It just kind of seems
(17:35):
like the place where these consoles are now yep.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
Yeah, So my guess for the price would be a
PS six S is actually five hundred dollars. The PS
six handheld is six hundred dollars and then the big
boy PS six is seven hundred to seven hundred and
fifty dollars, and yeah, that's that's painful.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
A Placeation five Pro is seven dred and fifty right now,
right right now?
Speaker 1 (17:58):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (17:59):
But like, okay, so you say right now, like are
they going to drop the price? A thing that needs
to happen, right, yeah, they won't drop the price. A
PlayStation six can't be the same cost as the PlayStation
five Pro.
Speaker 1 (18:11):
Well, I mean yeah, okay, so right, you're right it
could be eight hundred dollars. Then I think you know
you're right.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
It's the other way. It's the other thing.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
Oh it's the other way, yeah, oh one million percent
it's the other way, right regular? Right did you step
us up? What's that? Christian?
Speaker 3 (18:25):
Is the regular PlayStation six or like a thousand dollars,
like nine hundred bucks?
Speaker 1 (18:29):
Then, I mean it it's definitely north of seven hundred,
like for sure, it's north to seven hundred. It could
be seven hundred and fifty is like the same as
the PS five Pro. And then that gives them the
chance to make a PS six Pro eight hundred dollars,
eight hundred and fifty dollars. They do keep stepping things up. Hey, yeah,
it just just keeps going up. Me. Well, doesn't seem
like there's any change there. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (18:49):
Meanwhile, they can't kill the PS four because they will
keep releasing games on the PS four, So what the
fuck is even happening?
Speaker 1 (18:55):
I mean, I think that's I think that explains the
PS six S and the PS six handheld, where they're like,
we need to have other options for these people who
don't want to move on, but and like you know,
and maybe they're not moving on because they're already served.
So we've got to serve them something new, and the
handheld can do that, or if their things starts feeling
old and growedy, the p S six s can be
(19:16):
that thing. And our games are all going to be
made to run on the PS six s because we
don't need that much more power anymore to sell these games.
I just I think that's the strategy. But we'll see
Marvel's Wolverine will reportedly be shown during September State of Play.
I think that's probably going to happen. I definitely, It's
one of those games I heard could be at the
(19:36):
State of Play when I was when I was looking
into it. But you know, there's other games that they
have to talk about. Marathon again, right, Marathon, yes, Marathon
and God of War the spinoff, the metro Venia style
spin off. Those were both are supposed to come out
this year. They both got pushed to next year, whether
that was publicly or internally, and so those games have
(19:57):
to come first before whatever happens with Wolverine. But maybe
they'll want to talk about those games coming out early
next year and then they tease Wolverine for late next year.
I could see them doing that, but you know, also,
Sony has really paid the price for announcing things too early,
and too early these days means anything more than six months.
(20:19):
So I just that's why I'm like a little bit
hesitant about being for sure Wolverine will be there, because
that's a game. They don't have to talk about it
until they're ready to talk about it now.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
Right.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
If they have an asset, if they have like a
trailer ready to go, how long do you sit on that?
It would either be here or it would be at
the Kili thing. So Game Awards, let me see this.
They gotta show something big, right, Yeah, you know I
think so. Wait, Yeah, we're gonna do a state of
player or whatever.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
There's gotta be something past your tie, and it seems
like this is gonna be one of the if not
next up, one of them next up. So yeah, you
gotta start showing it a bit. I don't think Heretic
is going to be anytime super still.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
That's twenty twenty seven at the earliest.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean I'm kind of ready to
see some of this. I want to get an idea
what's going on. The most we've seen of it outside
that initial teaser was from the leaks, right, something real.
I just want to see the direction. I want to
see what kind of game it's going to be, how
their depiction of Wolverine is gonna be. I want to
I want to see reasons to be excited for this one.
(21:18):
And you know, just the idea of Esamniac doing Wolverine
game that's almost enough toing excited. But yeah, I want
to make sure that there is a real promise there.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
Way I mat on there that I've seen people sharing
like invites for the next beta, so they keep drugging
along with that game.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
The CFO a couple of weeks back said that they
want to watch that game before the end of the
current fiscal year, which would be by the end of March.
We'll see, we'll see if that's how it ends up going.
But if that's the case, then they're gonna have to
talk about that game again very soon. Wolverine. It feels
like there's a lot on that game's shoulders, right in
terms of like sort of defining how this PlayStation five
(21:58):
is going to be remembered, because I think people are like,
I spend a lot of money on this console. I
want it to feel like I got my money's worth,
and I've been waiting for the big games. I think
it'll be Wolverine and then Heretic, whatever the Indigo prophecy
will be will be the things that sort of determine
how people feel about the PS five in hindsight in
(22:18):
a lot of ways, Do you think that's going to
be something it can live up to? Well?
Speaker 2 (22:25):
I wonder, because like there's a part of Okay, can
this possibly be as fun or feel as exciting as
that first Spider Man game did? Because there was this
parts like Okay at his best? Can Wolverine be as
good of a video game character as Spider Man? Maybe
maybe you saw something that I just I don't quite
exactly see, but can it hit like that Spider Man
game did. I'm a little skeptical of that, yep.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
And it's a little bit unfair to some of these
games because they shouldn't have to carry the legacy of
the PlayStation five. But this thing is expensive. It was
expensive when people bought it originally. It's only gotten more expensive,
and so people are feeling a little bit salty about
this generation taking its time to really deliver the bangers
from Sony first party. And that means this thing's got
(23:08):
to be like make people feel really good about this system.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
It's it's fining to be the I think that by far,
the two best games have been their three D platformers.
They've been great. They should just make those.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
That sounds great to me. Let's do more of those.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
I was a big fan of big fan of that.
Because what we've had, the Horizon game, We've had the
we had Spider Man two.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
We're gonna get goost to Ka this year. That is
that's that's that'll be big. Especially in Japan, where that
first game was beloved.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
It isn't because it is like a trio of big
exclusives of big ps four games there really.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
And then there's like small stuff sprinkled in, like that
character action game Lost Soul Side that just came out.
That was that they published that, right, they were kind
of filling up their lineup line up with stuff like that.
They're also filling up their lineup with Double seven First Light.
That's a third party multi platform game, but they had
a state of play for that because they're treating as
one of their co marketing big deals similar to Hogwarts Legacy.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
Hell Divers was kind of like the one big unexpected surprise,
yes kind of thing.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
Yep, And that one's like a lot of the shine
for that goes to PC. So again that's I mean,
listen and now Xbox now we're going there. Yep, exactly.
But you know, how much does it matter that people
feel good about the PS five in hindsight? I don't know,
but I do. I do think it will be the
kind of thing where they have to sort of trade
(24:30):
on this legacy and convincing people to like jump on
the PS six. They'll be able to do that early on,
just like the Switch has been able to and just
like the PS five and PS four was able to.
But long term, these people that are that were maybe
on the fence are becoming more on the fence about wait,
did I get my money's worth out of this thing?
Maybe I'll just keep playing my PS five. I don't know.
Maybe maybe Sony won't care because they'll completely plan for
(24:50):
this next generation to be like, no, we're going to
keep the PS five around the whole time because we
know people are just going to keep that thing plugged
under their TV for the next ten years. We'll see.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
Curious if I ask people do ranking of the numbered PlayStations,
like how many would have five dead lasts be between
that and three for people?
Speaker 1 (25:06):
Right? I think so, yeah, which is? You know? I
think PS five has been pretty good in terms of
like playing games on it, like it's a good piece
of tech. It's just you're right, people judge it based
on the library. PS four PS two are going to
be kind of bad. Only PS two will win, but
PS four will be right there after that.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
I think, even to me, it's like, obviously PS two
or PS one is that just the old I am?
Speaker 1 (25:30):
I think so people love the PS four library. They love, love,
love it, even though it's a terrible console in terms
of tech. They love that console because they had just
great games. All right. Yes, Double seven mentioned it first light.
It's coming out March twenty seventh. They had a state
of play for that. I think it looks really good.
Parts of it that really kind of had people worrying
(25:51):
were during some of the explosions the frame rate would drop,
the car chase scene looked a little bit lackluster, But
beyond that, everything else look good to me. So it's
set up so that there are guided sequences which are
going to be streamlined, set pieces linear, and you're going
to go through those set pieces, set them off and
(26:13):
kind of blast your way through a straight level. Then
you get to these open levels and there's a bunch
of those, and these are like massive Hitman stages that
you can kind of do whatever you want in and
solve things however you want. I think that sounds like
a good sort of back and forth, keep a good
pace to things. You know, you spend a lot of
time in this exotic locale, and then you get into
(26:34):
the car, you get whisked away to see the next
exotic locale, and then you get to spend a lot
of time in there. I think that sounds really good
for a James Bond game, and I just think, iowise
tech is really mature to the point where it looks
really good as well. Did you get a chance to
see anything from the state of play.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
Yeah, I just I looked, not really the whole state
of play. It looks just kind of a shorter gameplay
trailer that they have put up, and yeah, it looks spiffy.
What you're saying is I think what I want. I
do want those hit mans out levels, but you know,
if you're doing a James Bond game, I do kind
of want some flashy set pieces things like that for sure.
Uh interesting that there's a special addition that comes with
a gun.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
Yeah, but sure, three hundred dollars, three hundred dollars in a game.
Speaker 3 (27:13):
If he comes with a gun.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
It comes with it comes to the replica replica of
the Golden Gun.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
Okay, right, I mean, yeah, be real weird. I feel.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
Comes it comes with a gun and instructions on who
to use it on.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
It's crazy, but I feel my expectations for this what
I'm is in a very similar places that Indiana Jones game.
It's like, boy, I bet I bet they have a
I bet they're gonna have a real good eight to
eight point five in here, and I'm I've got to
go and enjoy it a lot. I don't think I'm
gonna come out and be like, Man, this is just
as good as those Hitman games. This is practically stretching
the same itch part. I'm also not a giant James
(27:51):
Bond guy, honestly, Jeff, but that's not going to stop
me from enjoying a game featuring him. So yes, uh yeah,
I like what I see for sure.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
Yeah, I like what I see. I think that you're
right that I will play through this and I will
enjoy it at an eight to eight point five level.
I think that's exactly where I'm at as well, and
then I will go back to playing the Hitman games.
There is no like mastery system, there's no like trying
to unlock stuff by replaying the levels over and over again.
There are multiple ways to solve these big open levels,
(28:22):
so you can replay them, but it's not set up
to be like this is a game you're supposed to
go back to and try a bunch of different things.
Not that that's even how everyone plays hit Man. And
I still think Hitman would be better for some of
that stuff, because it's just meant to be that sandbox here.
It's going to be much more about making you feel cool,
having big action moments, and sort of like keeping the
(28:43):
pacing of a Bond adventure up and keeping your heart
rate going, which I think is a good master to
serve in this case. And it'll be a different flavor
than Hitman, and I welcome that from the studio. But
we'll see March twenty seventh not that far away, looking
forward to it. All right, those were the big stories
I wanted to talk about. I'm sure our community wants
to talk about some other stuff, so we could do
(29:05):
that by listening to what they have to say in
the super chats, which we'll get to right after this.
All right, we are back, Mike, Let's do the superchats please.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
All right, David Arline says, can't wait for your Metroid
Vane apology tour, Mikey, It'll be really fun to watch
you play Salt and Sanctuary and Grime then the second
one here, Oh and Ander Lily slash Magnolia. Can't forget those. Yeah,
I mean, I think I've done a pretty good job
playing a lot of the biggest ones. The Blast, Miss
games that feel bad about for sure. Yeah, I'll I'll
try to round out my Metroid Vanua knowledge pack here
(29:42):
as soon as I can. Have you played any of those?
I think you said when we were dranking the metroviss day,
you played it like a little bit of a bunch
of them.
Speaker 1 (29:52):
Yeah, yeah, I played a little Yeah, I played a
little bit of a bunch of them. And none of them.
I mean I thought a lot of them were quality
and like fun to play. They just didn't hook me
to the point where I saw them through.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
Lex light, says rank Soak song Bug, mister mosquito Australia
and ants, what does Australia have to do with the
rest of these? They mean the country?
Speaker 1 (30:13):
You know what?
Speaker 2 (30:13):
It's fun? It's the musical I thought they meant. I
thought I thought they met the movie. Is that a musical?
Speaker 1 (30:20):
Isn't it not? I thought it was a musical.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
It's a musical with Hugh Jackman.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
Yeah, but I mean, well, you know why I thought.
I think it's a musical because it has Hugh Jackman
in it, and it's also from the guy that it's
isn't from Boz Luhrmann, the guy that does a bunch
of musicals, but I don't know.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
Yeah, I guess yeah, because it's because the country has bugs.
I get it. Oh, duh, right, it's not about the movie,
all right.
Speaker 1 (30:42):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
I will rank these from worst to best. I'll go ants,
no ants bug mister Mosquito Australia silk Song.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
Okay, I think that's that's definitive.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
I think I think Hall of Night in solks On
it might be the best pieces of bug based media
ever created, even better than A Bugs Life, I admit it. Wow.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
Okay, First, Michael Minatti does not represent the one game
as LLC think you.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
Yeah, you can yell at him if you're Australia.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
Next up here it's from Simon Scotchwant ever played Two
Worlds for re Xbox three sixty was the Oblivion Killer
or Lunar Dragon Song. Pretty sure it punished you if
you sprint slash run by taking off HP. I played
a little bit of Two Worlds or maybe those two
Worlds too, which is always bas laughing like an eat
through to something. Ye, I had a joke. I was
(31:39):
always very proud of myself for that was terrible. I
would always be like, hey, I just reviewed two Worlds.
I gave it. I gave it a two one for
each world.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
I remember you saying that at some point, So, yeah,
that's very funny.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
There was something on hinge sounding about playing the Two
Worlds games in twenty twenty five. That's a cry for help. Yeah, definitely,
kind of like it's too Can I get Two Worlds
on Steamers?
Speaker 1 (32:07):
Though?
Speaker 2 (32:08):
To uh oh man, two Worlds two is on steam
Two Worlds Epic.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
Edition, Holy shit, I can't get. I'm getting right now.
Speaker 2 (32:17):
One of the dcs is just called the Two Worlds
a strategy Guy. You can buy the two world Strategy Guide.
Oh man, do what the fuck is this? It's literally
a PDF of a strategy guide.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
Holy shit, man, that's a different time and place. Oh man,
my god. Maybe they're like, maybe it's a company that
like sells strategy guides, like we should make a game
so we get sell more of our strategy guides.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
Two Worlds Epic Edition has mostly positive reviews. That's two thousand.
The Epic Edition was two thousand and ninety.
Speaker 1 (32:50):
I'm buying the Two Worlds collection. There we go.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
Yeah, then two Worlds too? How do people feel about two?
I don't like about these stupid case a lot.
Speaker 1 (32:58):
Actually I don't know what it's like. It's mixed for
two worlds too.
Speaker 2 (33:02):
Shit, reality? What's reality pump Studio has been up too recently?
Speaker 1 (33:06):
Let's see, I'll click on the reality pup Studios.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
Oh they haven't. I don't think they've done too much
since the days of two Worlds.
Speaker 1 (33:14):
Actually, yeah, but I'm like inured. What is Earth twenty
one forty?
Speaker 2 (33:19):
What Earth? I have? Earth twenty one fifty? Is this
the sequel to twenty one.
Speaker 1 (33:23):
For there's because there's Earth twenty one sixty as well.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
Oh the Earth twenty one fifty.
Speaker 1 (33:29):
Yeah, there's an Earth twenty one fifty.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
Trails two thousand? What the fuck is this?
Speaker 1 (33:32):
Shit? All right?
Speaker 2 (33:33):
Now, that's that's that's a remaster for sure.
Speaker 1 (33:36):
Yeah, the two Worlds a.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
Rabbit hold go everybody?
Speaker 1 (33:41):
H oh classic arts games Okay, yeah, we're arts games, okay.
Man twenty one sixty looks insane?
Speaker 2 (33:46):
Actually all right, gosh yeah, I'm thinking about two worlds
all the time. Very similar Braid Space as Haze.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
Oh for sure? Yeah.
Speaker 3 (33:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (33:56):
Sim from Scotchwan says sad news Captain Toad isn't online multiplayer? Then?
Who lied to us? Uh?
Speaker 1 (34:03):
Is it Epic Open World that always was saying it
is maybe all right.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
One for assignment is tomorrow, t G I f thank
grub it's Friday. I'm hanging out tomorrow though.
Speaker 1 (34:14):
Yeah, we're hanging out tomorrow. I will see. I still
have not been able to get Sky's Arcadia working. Uh
so probably not, honestly, I'll try to come back next
week with that ross.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
It's just a note that the recent YouTube VODs not
having live CHET replay is a bit of a bummer
as someone who can't watch live pens nests.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
Yeah weird.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
I don't know, because YouTube them.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
We had videos and yeah, the child gets delated.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
So that that is a consequence of doing that.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
Yep, all right, well but that just might have to
be something that happens. But we'll see. We'll test this
out for a little bit and uh, if we don't
like it, we'll go back to that ross. Sorry about that,
Bud glitches.
Speaker 2 (34:52):
Hey, guys love the show. Want to ask what are
your expectations from the Sony event this month in terms
of first party games? Thanks? I mean, I do you
expect to see Wolverine like just says I'd be interested
with the reintroduction of Marathon looks like, I mean, gosh,
I hope there's something fun that what they're saying. At
one point, there's gonna be initiatives to try to bring
back order franchises of some kind.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
See. Yeah, that was a Hermit Holst thing, being like, hey,
we could like sort of fill in some of these
gaps by bringing back some other games. Yeah, so then
definitely Jumping Flash three, we'll definitely get that, of course. Yeah.
I think for me, I think the first party games
it's gonna be Marathon, It'll be that God of War.
I mean even that is questionable, but I think it'll
(35:35):
probably will be there, the God of War, Metro Advana,
and then Wolverine. I don't think we see the next
Sony Santa Monica game yet. I think that's still just
a touch of a touch of ways off.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
Yeah, Marveltokin, don't forget about that. They doing that.
Speaker 2 (35:49):
Yeah, yeah, oh that's them right. Yeah, for sure, they
definitely announce some new characters. I still thought I was
where they didn't announce a single new character at EVO,
but yeah, glad jew Antonio Morales says, who cares about
spoon Heaven Football is back. Let's fucking go yes, it's
time for the footballs. I mostly think I'm more excited
(36:09):
for my fantasy team than.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
The actually normal Yeah.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
Yeah, I gotta make sure everyone's I mean, this is
the first game of the season. Everyone should be playing ants.
Somebody got hurt and fucking practice, which I guess.
Speaker 1 (36:20):
I had a lot of questionables on my team, so
we'll see.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
I better check that out. Yeah, I guess I don't
even know when the Browns are playing. I'm allowed to
try to figure that out. Uh, next up, Michael McCarthy,
Thanks for all the great content. I'm nearing the end
of Pippa Strello and the Curs Jogyo. More people need
to play. This game just keeps getting better. Yeah. I
wasn't enjoying that game when I tried it.
Speaker 3 (36:41):
Same.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
I think I was like looking at Opra Curson, that
game is like an average of eighty nine or something
ridiculously high. Really like, yeah, it's like a really high
open curR. Yeah. You know, people have talked about it
a bit, but doesn't seem like, yeah, eighty nine on
OPI CRAC doesn't seem like it's being talked enough for
a game that has it average score of eighty nine
based off of forty seven credit review.
Speaker 1 (37:03):
Yeah that's nuts. It's a super high. This is Pipastrella
we're talking about.
Speaker 3 (37:09):
I need to continue to play that game.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
Said, yeah, okay, interesting.
Speaker 2 (37:16):
Uh. Next up is from Gwynn the Hunter. Probably wearing
my spoon heavy shirt today because at the end of
the era, the final day of a genuine cultural phenomenon,
bit sad and away silk goodness. Thank you for getting
me with shirt. I got mine as well. You can
get your own spoon Heaven shirt. You go to store
dot giant bomb dot com. Use the prombo code spoon Heaven.
That's one word on your purchase of a spoon of
(37:37):
shirt to get twenty percent off that product. I picked
up some other things while you're there, all sorts of
good Giant but I'm good he's thinking for your sport,
Giant bomb dot com.
Speaker 3 (37:47):
That's the game, Miss joke.
Speaker 1 (37:50):
Will listen. We we let Giant Bomb have some stuff,
all right.
Speaker 2 (37:58):
They have a They had a much better digital store than.
Speaker 1 (38:03):
Like you can actually get shirts that don't disintegrate.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
Yeah yeah. Next up is from Oh grug just got
back fi vacation and too many tequila shots, and I
have to ask What upen to Mike during mes cow
on stream and singing slurs and mescal? What happened to
Mike drinking mescal and stream and saying slurs? Mezcalatti, I
didn't drinking off of my mes cow because I usually
(38:26):
want to drink my mes cow and tequila during the
warmer months. I really have not been drinking very much though,
so I feel like I kind of lost opportunities. Maybe
I should treat myself to a little bit of the
mes cow, because like I want to be able, I
want to have fun and buy a new bottle every year,
but I don't make it through a bottle a year even.
Speaker 1 (38:42):
You know, don't unleash the beast. Don't unleash the the Mezcalotti.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
Who knows what awful slurs I'll say this time, Taco Belmont,
have we gotten a super tifer Taco Bellmont before?
Speaker 1 (38:55):
Because that needs incredible? I don't think so it's very good.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
I like it. If my parley hits, I'll get silk
song Foo. You know it's only twenty bucks, right, but
sure how your parlay.
Speaker 1 (39:08):
Goes talking to some other places. Good luck, Taco bell Mont.
We're all pulling for you.
Speaker 2 (39:15):
Why Jacka says, I read Brother. He's listened to the
Masters of Doom recently out there hearing you guys talk
about it on a podcast. It's really good. Any other
recommendations for video game oriented books. I did enjoy that
sid Meyer memoir a lot. It is a good deal
more chill and like there's a lot as much drama
and whatnot as Masters of Doom. It is mostly si
(39:37):
you're talking about his career. I didn't get a chance
to read it. But did you read Shreyer's book about
the Blizzard?
Speaker 1 (39:45):
No? Not yet. No, I intend to, but uh, yeah,
I've not read it yet.
Speaker 2 (39:49):
Yeah, things about that, I have a I have one
about Sierra Online in uh in the primer ready to Go,
So I'll let you know that.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
One is I keep looking for Game Over by David
Chef how Nintendo Conquered the World or whatever it is
on audiobook. I'm like, I'm probably just gon have to
like make this the next book I read after I'm
done with Project Hail Mary. But because apparently there is
a book on tape version of it and they never
(40:17):
like redid it for CD or audible or anything. So
if anyone has this, if anyone has seen it. If
anyone sees that their library, let me know, because I
want to digitize it and I want to listen to
it on tape and see if I can make that happen.
That's the one I want to like read. Next, That's
where I'm at. I also want to get I also
want to get Doom Guy. I want to read Romero's book.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
Yeah, And I mean, I don't know if you've you know,
this thing popped off a bit ago, but I still
think Console Wars is a good fun time. I like
that book.
Speaker 1 (40:45):
Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, I think Blake did a really
good job on that one.
Speaker 2 (40:48):
Lossion says, you guys need to try Colombian beef and
panat as. Sure.
Speaker 1 (40:53):
Absolutely, yeah. I think Steph worked at a Colombian restaurant
early on our relationship ship. And uh, that's some good food.
That's some real good food.
Speaker 2 (41:05):
Okay. Next up is from the entire Wolf rank these
games from least to most likely Melgar Saw one remake,
Mogasolt six, mel Gear Rising two, Master Collection Volume two,
Melgar Acid three, and Star Tropics three. Most likely is
UH Collection two, the Melgar sal one remake. Yep, then.
Speaker 1 (41:28):
Uh Metal Gear Rising two.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
Yeah, Rising two, Melgar six.
Speaker 1 (41:31):
Not likely but more likely.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
And then again, ye, Star Tropics at the very bottom
of fortun.
Speaker 1 (41:36):
Yeah, that's correct, that's the correct order.
Speaker 2 (41:39):
Maybe we get Star Tropics three before Battle Gear Acid three.
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (41:43):
Yeah, both of those are like, yeah, you're right. I
would put Star Tropics three above Metal Gear Acid three
for sure.
Speaker 2 (41:50):
Actually, Dreamy Mada said, did you two see that backyard
football in ninety nine is coming to steam? All the
pros like Barry Sanders are back except for Brett Favre. Loll,
get fucked fuck.
Speaker 1 (42:00):
You, Brett Favre, You fucking idiot. That that sounds great? Actually, ill,
Barry Sanders. I never played those backyard sports games as
a kid. I was playing real sports games. That was
my opinion. I did not know that these games were
actually pretty good and beloved. And I went back and
played backyard baseball last year and found it to be
(42:21):
a really good time. So I'm going to check this
out this go around.
Speaker 2 (42:25):
Chris Pratts is playing some of this milking song and
I keeping damage when I try stomping the enemies. I
don't get it.
Speaker 1 (42:34):
He wants to stomp those little tupas' you can't stop them.
Speaker 2 (42:37):
Yeah, just keep trying, you'll get there.
Speaker 1 (42:39):
You're persistent.
Speaker 2 (42:41):
Oh, Chris Pattles says, more like piss six as well.
Talk about the PlayStation six, very good, get them, Chris,
Taco bell monts is rather than launch PlayStation six, wait
for a pro revision. I mean, what does that look like?
Places six pro? First off, it'll be four years later, right,
(43:02):
we might all be dead, right.
Speaker 1 (43:04):
And also I got the PS five and I'm happy
with it, and don't like I'm on the tick. There's
a TikTok idea of like, you know, there's the iPhone whatever,
and then they do an iPhone six S and that's
you know, you can get that one. But then don't
get the phone seven. Wait for the next time they
do an S. I got the PS five, I'll get
a PS six and then, you know, if someone got
(43:24):
a PS five pro, maybe they should wait for a
PS six Pro. But I know that's up to them. Also,
this name Taco Bellmont. Have we read this before? It's
so good you're being able to share Sean Sean said,
apparently you've read it like twenty times, so we do
that every time.
Speaker 2 (43:40):
Funny, why are you barking. Calmed down, what work with you?
Calm down, h let's see her now, David Lado says Abbidooby.
And I know now I've skipped the buns because I
think jumped and skipped the bunch. I'll get back to
But David Laddo said Abbidobe, We now that's a sailor
thing this time. Uh big frustraty sevss. Do we know
where Luke Smith ended up? I saw this and actually
(44:03):
brought up his LinkedIn it's nothing since leaving Bungee in August.
Speaker 1 (44:08):
I hope he's on a beach somewhere. I'll be just
as he's probably at like some startup of his own, because,
like you know, he was caught up in those layoffs,
but he was too high up to be laid off.
I bet he got a pretty sweet exit package. He
can go to any big funding place in the world
and be like I'm I was the director of Destiny
(44:29):
when it was good, and he'll be able to start
a studio of his own. That's probably what he's doing.
No yes or yes, maybe he's gonna go podcast with
Garnet League. That's actually what we miss you.
Speaker 2 (44:42):
What's wad is like? I think about his time at
one Up is this big monolithic thing for me? One
year or two months he was at one up really
that one year two razy LinkedIn and before that he
was at Khotographer eight months. He spent less than two
years as a game's You're in the list, and it's
seventeen years and four months at bungeee. I don't even
(45:05):
know if he really even thinks of his time as
a game journalist saw that much. That's a game developer, man.
Speaker 1 (45:10):
Yep, that's really sending me Mike. That's crazy because to me,
you say, it looks like whatever yours. Yeah, yeah, of course.
Speaker 2 (45:19):
It's a very small part with his life. It Actually,
he was.
Speaker 3 (45:22):
So funny when they let him talk on those interviews
where that people huh the time people got mad about
the painting the armor shep and it's like, what's gonna
be next? They're gonna sell it each one, and he says,
are you you think we can sell them?
Speaker 1 (45:36):
It's like, yeah, yeah, yes, that's right. He's got like
a a really sharp tongue and you can tell it
eventually like you have. He was probably like I have
to stop talking. I'm gonna just keep getting us in trouble.
Speaker 2 (45:50):
All right now. The next one is from I'm try
Wolf Jeff complaining about Placation four specs shaking my head,
my head while you were playing DORKYTS games on PC
real chats were playing bud Blood Born in Days Gone
at twenty per second. It's one of my free favorite
(46:10):
reoccurring bits of yours is reminding us all of the
places you're for did kind.
Speaker 1 (46:14):
Of suck and the Xbox One like they both up.
Speaker 3 (46:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (46:17):
Generation, It's like those companies did not believe in that generation,
and then they were very wrong. Both the officially were I.
Speaker 2 (46:23):
Do think there's a way of sort of people and like,
I know, I think we're both one. They're like, ah,
I'm gonna start playing more PC games around this time.
Speaker 1 (46:29):
That's definitely I met. It was a lot of people.
It was definitely us. That is when I got super
into PC gaming again.
Speaker 3 (46:35):
It was according to a lot of people, it was
the last generation of consoles. There were going to be
no more generation after that one.
Speaker 1 (46:43):
I mean that's what they were thinking of the beginning
of that generation. And then the PS four sold really
well and everyone went, oh shit, we gotta make something.
Then a couple of years later, Bloodborne came out and
actually started that generation.
Speaker 2 (46:53):
Oh Grex has also shout out Mike playing Mitchell Mike
Mike Virtual Highlight. I think he's almost haply done, but
forgot to get something import I don't know how I
could forget something. The game always just points being directions.
But my only bet is that maybe in that room
where I killed a vampire, there was a fairy that
I didn't touch or something, and I'll have to go
back and touch a faerry. I don't know. I don't
know what you're worried about it.
Speaker 1 (47:14):
Yeah, I think you'll be able to figure it out.
It's a it's a weird game. I'm really glad you're
playing it.
Speaker 2 (47:20):
Yeah, it is very interesting, that's for sure. JD. Camp
says there is a at HF golf game on PS two.
That's Bad Spoons. That's a THHF.
Speaker 1 (47:31):
Aquatine Hunger Force. Oh my god, what click clicked into place?
Speaker 2 (47:36):
I think I did hear about this at some point
in my life. Actually, there is a PS two Aquatine
Hunger Force game. Maybe something to think about for golf week.
Speaker 1 (47:43):
Oh that's a good idea, Okay, I'll look into it.
Speaker 2 (47:46):
Big frustrating, Sev says, I'm the captain toad guy in.
It absolutely is online. They added game share to it
when Switch You launched. It works just like clubhouse games.
Speaker 1 (47:53):
Okay, all right, oh right, okay, game share right, okay, yeah,
that would actually be a fun way to play that.
Big You did tell us this as well. We forgot.
Apologies to Big Fresh.
Speaker 2 (48:05):
I'm not I can't be expected to remember something like that,
Big Fresh access.
Speaker 1 (48:09):
I remember everything that's ever happened with me and captains.
Speaker 2 (48:13):
They all see Easy Come Easy Golf. The actual Claphans
game at a six cy fps and switched to one
day before Hotshot. How fine I did. That's pretty funny. Actually,
that's a game that does not really have a bespoke
switched to version and apparently is not running great on
there right.
Speaker 1 (48:27):
Uh the uh we're talking about the hot Shots Golf.
Speaker 2 (48:30):
Now we're talking about the Everybody's Golf.
Speaker 1 (48:31):
Yeah, yes, I think that's correct.
Speaker 2 (48:33):
Yeah, because I've been playing it on my rog Gley X.
It's one of those rog Guy ice kimes where like
when I started, it runs great, but if I go
to hybernate mode and come back, then it starts chugging
for some reason.
Speaker 1 (48:43):
Windows man, fucking windows.
Speaker 2 (48:45):
Oh well, I'll talk about a bit more. Yeah, I
played a decent amount of everybody's golf hot shots. Mike
Hilario says, Mike, what food and wine? I just picking interest,
am mind the French onion soup, dumplings in the liquid nitrogen,
frozen pumpkin cheesecake moose. I haven't seen too much about, Yeah, mikey,
I don't think I'm going to make it out to
Food and Wine Festival this year. I think by the
time I get there, it'll be slipped over to the
(49:06):
Festival of the Holidays.
Speaker 1 (49:08):
This is the thing.
Speaker 2 (49:09):
Yeah, Yeah, it's one of those Epcot festivals. There's a
Montreal style burger slider with impossible beef. I did see
so those. Yeah, they have this dumpling stand that does
sound amazing. The fresh on You soup one sounds good.
They also have a Buffalo style dumpling that sounds very
nice as well. So yeah, I haven't looked too much
(49:30):
into it. I'll watch a Disney Food blog video about
all those offerings here, probably pretty soon. When does it?
Speaker 1 (49:38):
When does it end? These these the food and wine thing?
Speaker 2 (49:42):
Food and wine starts about, Yes, it started now and
it'll go basically until they start the holiday at thet
the Festival of the Holidays, and that's like at some
point in November. I forgetve it's mid November at the latest.
Speaker 1 (49:54):
I think the food and wine thing was happening when
we were there last years when I'm what I'm trying
to remember that sounds familiar.
Speaker 2 (49:58):
Yeah, the way it works, it's like beginning of the
year ish, that's the Festival of the Arts. Then that goes.
Then when it's spring it's the Flowering Garden Festival. Then
you have the strangest time of all the brief period
of Vanilla Epcot. Right there is diet app class where
there's no festival.
Speaker 1 (50:18):
People crave vanilla Apcot now.
Speaker 2 (50:19):
Yeah, it's very rare that you ever get that. Yeah,
and then you got a starting at fall food and
wine didn't for the holidays. Festival the Holidays.
Speaker 1 (50:27):
Interesting.
Speaker 2 (50:28):
James biddle ghon giannone, sorry, excuse me, where are in heaven?
Speaker 1 (50:33):
Mugs?
Speaker 2 (50:33):
Damn it, you'll never get them. You'll have to kill me, I.
Speaker 1 (50:37):
Know, back of ours like, oh, Mike come on and
then and but Mike's serious, everybody. If if mugs go
on there, he's gonna be upset.
Speaker 2 (50:45):
Like Reinhold says, here's a couple of Hamilton's go buy
yourself with silk. So anything, I'll tell you what I've lost.
I bet I could like ask for some person back,
but I've lost a lot of my contacts in the industry.
El of a sudden, it turns out maybe you should
have cataloged some of.
Speaker 1 (51:01):
Those little bit I saved all my contacts, but I
don't like I never like thought of things that way.
I always just search my email for a game and
it's like, oh, this is the break that talked to
me about this game. So I have this whole list
of contacts. I'm like, I guess I want Star Wars
Outlaws for switch to I'm gonna pick one of these
three Ubi self contacts I have for my old address
book and see if they get back to me. And
(51:22):
it worked, but that was luck.
Speaker 2 (51:24):
So yeah, I can't have somebody to reach out to
me on my giant bomb email about that. Just like
it was like more like thinking, hey, this is out
and I'm like, can I have a code? Like sure?
I'm like good, because I actually I do want to
play that. That sounds like it's very good.
Speaker 1 (51:35):
We'll talk about it. It's running really really good.
Speaker 2 (51:38):
So and also says plus one two fuck Brett Favre. Yeah,
well I don't want to, but yeah, but get fucked
bread far Yeah, and there you go. That's uh it
right now. I think you so much, everybody. We'll read
more super chats if they come in before the end
of the show.
Speaker 1 (51:51):
Excellent. All right, let's let's get to a break. We'll
come back. We're gonna do our Mount Rushmore of Metroid Vana,
power ups, abilities, unlocks, that sort of thing right after this.
All right, we are back. We are gonna do our
Mount Rushmore of Metroid Vanum mechanics, Mikey, I think the
(52:14):
idea here is, you know, like a lot of the
things that are that are built into Metroid venues, and
most of them, anyhow, that you unlock that make the game,
you know, more playable, or give you a larger play
set or a large larger movement set of things you
could do as the character. But you know, I'm willing
to hear any ideas you might have. If you have
other mechanics in mind, feel free to drop them. Although
(52:35):
there's a couple of obvious ones. I think we'll get
to here right out of the gate. Do you want
to start us off?
Speaker 2 (52:40):
You start us off? I want to make sure I'm
on Yeah.
Speaker 1 (52:43):
Sure, yeah, I mean I think for me, it's double
jump right out of the gate. Okay, Like this is
the kind of thing where every time I get a
double jump in a Metroid Vanua game of any stripe,
I'm always so excited, Like, honestly, I got a double
jump in any game, but double jumps, especially in metroidvan Is.
And I do remember getting the double jump in Prince
(53:04):
of Persia the Lost Crown much later than you do
in most other Metroid venues, and that being like this
really awesome moment of like I can't believe I finally
have double jump. It's you know, if we were doing
a metro or a mount rushmore of awesome things you
can do in video games, double jump would probably be
on there as well. So it's almost certainly going to
be on this list for Metroidvania mechanics.
Speaker 2 (53:26):
Okay. See, I guess, like when I was first, I
guess my original thinking was, like the specific upgrades from
specific games if you want to.
Speaker 1 (53:34):
Like, if you want to drop those in there, and
we can like sort of you know, adapt them for
our list here.
Speaker 2 (53:40):
We could do that because I guess one of my
favorites is vaulting in the or games right or whatever
it's called. Gosh, I'll find executive but and you grab
you grab the end of me there and you use
them to jump off. You get to pick what direction
you can. It's kind of even like this more interesting
form of a double jump because it's both for your movement,
it's also an attack ability even do it with like
(54:00):
Nyby projectiles and things like that. Especially that first game,
it's so much of basically the core of that whole
experiences that. Uh, there's that whole escape sequence built around
using it pretty early on when you get it, and
it's a highlight of that game. It's gosh, it's so
freaking freaking amazing. I love that stuff. Uh.
Speaker 1 (54:19):
I think I would go with a wall jump and okay,
well let me ask you now, Mike, do you want
to attach like specific things from specific games. Would that
be more interesting for this list? That sounds pretty good
to me.
Speaker 2 (54:30):
I think that might work better.
Speaker 1 (54:32):
Okay, well, enough of enemies and or find the exactly
what that ability has a name. I'm gonna do double
jump from Prince of Persia.
Speaker 2 (54:41):
Sure, it's not called vault ability to get skills. I'll
find the skills eventually. Here is it. It's bash the
bash ability in the Ori games. It's called bash and
it's so freaking good.
Speaker 1 (54:58):
Bash and or I'll put this explanation here in parentheses. Okay, well,
then I will go with wall jumping in Super Metroid
specifically speak the truth. Yes, it is difficult in Super Metroid.
It is a skill. It is not something you need
(55:19):
to do in the game. It is awesome when you
actually figure it out. You could pull it off, and
you could do it reliably and you understand what they're
expecting of you. To me, it always makes It always clicks,
and it's like, oh my god, this just makes sense.
It feels right. It reminds me of like doing a
ten eighty and ten eighty snowboarding, where it's like, oh man,
I gotta do all this shit to get this to work,
but once you do it, it's like, oh that felt incredible,
(55:41):
while jumping in Super Metroid is fantastic.
Speaker 2 (55:46):
All right, Okay, so what do you got? Gosh, there's
that move in the casslvingis thin. It's called the upper
cut it was originally a Richter thing, but it shows
up in some of the other bunch of venas where
it's like you push up down and jump real quick
and you do this like you just upwards and you
often will hit the ceiling with it. Even gosh, it's
a it's a it's so amazing. I think Alcard even
(56:08):
has like a super jump that's very similar. Actually that
might be more of it. Like think you can call
it the super jump from Symphony of the Night. Okay,
super jump from right because it is like just like
a straight up rocket launch yourself as high as possible,
especially in that game that gets so vertical, especially with
the secondary castle. It just feels so satisfying and it
just wh yeah, that's right. It's yeah, it's like rocket
(56:31):
launch thing so good.
Speaker 1 (56:34):
I think god, I might go with the gliding from
Castlevania Symphony of the Night when you get the like
the angel wings and stuff.
Speaker 2 (56:41):
Oh yeah, I do like that.
Speaker 1 (56:43):
Yeah that you get that pretty early and I but
I still really like that, you know, use that throughout
the whole game, and it's just cool. Yeah, another cool
thing that you can get around with, and it's uh yeah,
I just like using that all the time. So let's
go with gliding. All right, something there we go, all right,
(57:04):
what else you got?
Speaker 2 (57:06):
It always gets I always forget which is between screw
attack and space jump? Which one is the one? Screw
attack is one of the amazing name and super great.
But when you get the space jump where you can
basically then just start flying in.
Speaker 1 (57:16):
That, you can you can just double jump with the
screw a text ole thing forever, right right.
Speaker 2 (57:22):
The space jump is ever since then they all have
that eventually, maybe before, but it's so satisfy. It's right too.
Might have been the first one with it. Actually, gosh,
it feels so good when you get the space jump.
The usually it's the last late thing, and that's kind
of when Okay, now you could really go back and
hunt for items as much as you want to write, right,
(57:42):
I've got everything I could possibly need and nothing is
out of reach.
Speaker 1 (57:45):
You know.
Speaker 2 (57:45):
It's so fun. You start norble jump, then you get
a high jump, or you make all these abilities that
increase your verticality, but by the end of the game
is just yeah, you can fly.
Speaker 1 (57:56):
Yep, and uh, you're right that. At that point it's like,
oh my god, I am unstoppable. I can get anywhere
all these places I struggled struggle to get to before,
or these massive rooms where it's like part of my
map is not filled in because I can't get to
the ceiling of this one massive room. Well now you can,
and of course there's actually something hidden there. Uh yeah,
that's good stuff. Uh yeah, I like I like this. Okay,
(58:21):
you know what, let's do that one. Shine Spark that's
just another good one. That's is that in what it's
called in Super Metroid. That's the one where you can
call it. Yeah, right, you basically you run really fast
and then you duck and then you can jump straight
up and you jump very high in the sky. Right.
The little animal teaches you to do that in Super Metroid.
That's a good feeling one as well. The Shine Spark
(58:43):
that that there was like good like challenges for that
or like challenge sections of that Metroid Dread that I
really liked. But we'll you know.
Speaker 2 (58:52):
A lot of optional items energy tanks and missile upgrades
behind that kind of stuff.
Speaker 1 (58:59):
Yeah, I'll do the Metroid Dread version of Shine Spark though.
That's that's cool. Yeah, it's it's a very good name,
all right. Anything else from you, Mike.
Speaker 2 (59:07):
It's called the Shadow of the submerg I believe from
Prince of Persia the Lost Crowd. This is more you
can sort of create that copy or so that it's
kind of a rewind works to it. You activate it
and you tell we're back to that location. So you
kind of use this for traps and offscules it in
combat to avoid really big enemy moves that seem like
you can't avoid them at all. I freaking loved that thing.
Speaker 1 (59:30):
Shadow of the okay, s I m you are ghm okay,
I am you are Gh. That's Persia Lost Crown. Yeah,
and that's like a really good one because it affects everything.
It affects the combat, it affects the platforming, it affects
the exploration. You can like just do it as like
(59:52):
a like a safety valve when you are doing one
of those platforming challenges where it's like I'm gonna put
something here in case I like fall down in a
about to hit the spikes. I can sort of save
myself and give myself another chance to get through this.
Uh yeah, that's a really good one. I I like
the back dashes in all of the Castle Vania games,
(01:00:14):
but they don't like necessarily always play into the Metroid
Vanya like ability like door lock thing.
Speaker 2 (01:00:20):
They're very simply and especially I think it's actually your
fastest movement, so like, yeah, a lot of times people
just back.
Speaker 1 (01:00:26):
Dash really good. Yeah, but I love the way it
looked in like Aria of Sorrow. Yeah. I'm not sure
though that I'm gonna put it on there.
Speaker 2 (01:00:35):
I've got a big one here for me.
Speaker 1 (01:00:37):
I think.
Speaker 2 (01:00:42):
That's the Spans word for chicken, like chicken power from
guacam Melee. This is your ability to turn to a
chicken at anytime of the game. And it kind of even.
It kind of works like the morphball. It's like how
you get really small to squeeze through cracks and things
like that.
Speaker 3 (01:00:57):
Yeah, I remember, yea, it's pretty cool, but.
Speaker 2 (01:00:58):
There's there's other things you could do, and it's always
really funny as well, especially in Guacamilli two when you
all turn into the chickens first. I think it's hilarious. Actually,
I'm a big fan of polo power in these games.
It's a super super fun.
Speaker 4 (01:01:12):
All right, I put too power on there from Guacamelee. Okay,
let's see here. I am trying to remember if I
have anything.
Speaker 1 (01:01:25):
Else, well, you know what, do we just put morphball
on there for consideration?
Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
It should probably include morphball.
Speaker 1 (01:01:31):
Yeah, it's pretty good. I've got a I've got a
hollow Night one for you. Yes, I was wondering if
you would have a hollow Night Okay, what do you got?
Speaker 2 (01:01:38):
Void dash? This is it's not it's not just a dash.
It's a dash you can do in mid air, and
wherever you do it from you basically have very very
strong and fast horizontal movement until you hit a wall.
So it's use for a lot of skips. It's the
big speed run tech in the game of It's kind
of like it's a little bit like the Shinespark but
(01:02:01):
you don't have to get the running start for it.
Kind of a thing. And it looks really cool too.
It's probably the most iconic of the Hall and Night
one abilities. I would say.
Speaker 1 (01:02:12):
Now I'm trying to like think of like other less
played or less like lower tiermetry venys. I like, you know,
the pinball stuff from Yoku's Island Express, But I'm like
struggling to think of like any one thing I would
add to this and from that.
Speaker 2 (01:02:27):
The frisbee and animal well, was pretty cool. Uh, con
Junior's right, I did like that Frisbee.
Speaker 1 (01:02:32):
Okay, yeah, like that too.
Speaker 2 (01:02:34):
I'm trying to think like the something from Shadow Complex.
I was like, well, I can't believe this one ability. Yeah,
I just remember like you could shoot in the background.
That's what I thought was cool in that game.
Speaker 1 (01:02:42):
Right, that was a very good by the numbers Metrade
Venue game. But it didn't have like a lot of
like surprising things necessarily.
Speaker 2 (01:02:49):
It was at a time we weren't getting all those
on console anyway.
Speaker 1 (01:02:52):
So yeah, okay, I think we're probably pretty good here.
You know, well there are you know, Metroid veins. We're
not saying two D only this time. Necessarily it's anything
from Metroid Prime. Is there anything from Arkham Asylum?
Speaker 2 (01:03:09):
Huh? That's interesting. I think of Arkham Asylum, and I
think I'm trying to think of like abilities per se.
Speaker 1 (01:03:15):
Like I remember I remember getting I remember like getting
the upgrades like Alfred, like shooting the rockets that included
upgrade for your suit at you. I remember that a lot.
I don't remember what a lot of what the upgrades.
Speaker 2 (01:03:26):
It's like, I mostly think about the foam bomb and
he made the little bats right, Yeah, I think about
his little foam bomb.
Speaker 1 (01:03:34):
That's what I remember, fud Sack with a good sort
of like honorable mention. Here. Uh, the screenshot ability in
Lost Crown. That's very cool.
Speaker 2 (01:03:43):
That's interesting. Yeah, yeah, it's kind of We could do.
Speaker 1 (01:03:46):
Grapple Beam from from uh Metroid Prime. I like that.
That's a good feeling thing. Okay, let's do It's.
Speaker 2 (01:03:53):
A great honestly most thing much a Prime is the visor,
which like is as of Super metroidving mechanic in that.
Speaker 1 (01:04:02):
Okay, all right, here's what we have. The Mount Rushmore
of Metroid Vaniam Mechanics, Double Jump from Prince of Persia,
the Lost Ground Bash and Ory Wall Jump from Super Metroid,
super Jump from Castlevania, Symphony of the Night, Gliding from
Symphony of the Knight, Space Jump from Super Metroid, Shine
Spark from Metroid Dread, Shadow of the summerg from Prince
(01:04:23):
of Persia, the Lost CROWNO Poyo Power from Guacamele, Morphball
from Metroid Void, Dash from Hollow Night, Frisbee from Animal Well,
and the Grapplebeam from Metroid Prime.
Speaker 2 (01:04:35):
I looked it up. Super Jump is called high Jump
in Castlevania.
Speaker 1 (01:04:39):
Okay, thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:04:40):
Figure it out a bunch of them Circle of the
Moon even I do remember Nathan Graves using it in
Circle in the Moon. Yes, the car jump was the first.
It's just up down jump that feels good. Consumes four
MP In case you are curious.
Speaker 1 (01:04:53):
I was, all right, good deal. Should we do double
jump from something else? And so it can be the
George Washington because Prince of Person of the Lost Crown
is like so new that it feels weird to make
that like kind of the George Washington. But I think
double jump probably is.
Speaker 2 (01:05:09):
I don't know, because like all this other stuff is
just like bespokes. The game double jump is in so
many games, right, yeah, maybe we could maybe that could
be the unlabel. Maybe maybe you name it the mount
Rush War metro vane abilities instead of mechanics.
Speaker 1 (01:05:20):
I don't know, No, No, I think I think we
had it as abilities originally. Okay, And I'm just gonna
make a double jump and we're not going to attribute
that to any of the games because that's in all
of them basically at all. All right, double jump?
Speaker 3 (01:05:35):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:05:35):
And I do think that's that's a lock. Beyond that,
I think the field is pretty open. There's a lot
of cool stuff in here, and I'm interested to see
what you would want to go with next.
Speaker 2 (01:05:45):
Double jumps A lock, I don't know if it's a lock.
It is a little it's a little box standard and
it's uh, yes, it's it's just it's it's in so
many other things. A size for metro Veneers.
Speaker 1 (01:05:55):
Yeah, but it's best in metro Vanus and it's the
George Washington. It's a lock.
Speaker 2 (01:06:00):
Super Metroid. Metroid games don't even have a double jump,
and they're fine, they don't need it.
Speaker 1 (01:06:05):
Yeah, but they effectively have a double jump once you
get the you know, the space you can.
Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
Think kind of jump, just like how the high jump
is a more interesting kind of jump, and just how
like how bash and Ory is a more interesting variation
on the double jump.
Speaker 1 (01:06:17):
Yeah, but there are more interesting presents than George Washington.
I'm saying that it's like, actually, there's not very many more.
Speaker 2 (01:06:24):
It insists upon itself.
Speaker 1 (01:06:26):
Jeff, Mike, I think it would be crazy to put
this list out without chat Chat.
Speaker 2 (01:06:32):
Do you think it's crazy?
Speaker 1 (01:06:33):
Chat?
Speaker 2 (01:06:33):
Do you think it's crazy?
Speaker 1 (01:06:35):
I think I think it's crazy. You're right for I
want to take their temperature. I'm curious to see like
maybe I'm.
Speaker 2 (01:06:42):
Not maybe I'm off face, maybe I'm on base. I
just want to know who's off base here. I want
to know who is off base.
Speaker 1 (01:06:48):
It's there's one that says Mike makes good points. They
don't say they agree with you, but they say you
make good points.
Speaker 2 (01:06:55):
Look, all right, Okay, I'm just curious. Okay, I didn't
think it was crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:06:59):
I think we should definitely keep it there for now.
All right, let's see where we end up when we
have three or four more that we're talking about. Is locks?
Speaker 2 (01:07:07):
I just was, you know, I want to see if
we just have a bunch of things that are variation.
Is a double jump in this thing?
Speaker 1 (01:07:13):
No, I get it. You're right, You're right, And if
that's what it ends up looking like, we can reassess.
But for now, let's let's keep it there. What else
are you thinking about?
Speaker 2 (01:07:22):
I love bashion or I think that's one of the
all time great metro vanea abilities. I think it is
cent like I remember those games feel really good. I
think it's fun how you can kind of like be
able to stinker and feel like you're cheating with this
sometimes and gain some places that maybe you're not supposed
to get to yet again, it's multipurpose because you use
it for attacking people because you you know, you're shooting
(01:07:44):
the projectile or the enemy one direction, you go off
the other direction. I just love that kind of due
purposeness of it.
Speaker 1 (01:07:52):
Yeah, I yes, Like you're right. It was. It like
played into every aspect of the game, and it was
fun throughout. They obviously put a lot of work into
making that thing feel cool and it did. Okay, God,
let's see here, what what would be the other thing?
I mean a lot of these are jumps, like.
Speaker 2 (01:08:11):
You know what, you know what you know what isn't
And it's like incredbly iconic is morphball?
Speaker 3 (01:08:15):
Right?
Speaker 2 (01:08:15):
Moreball is iconic?
Speaker 1 (01:08:17):
Right? And there's a way to like argue that that
maybe that's the George Washington It is iconic. So I'm
bolded I'll build it for now. It's it'll probably make it.
But I mean, I don't know how much I guess
that the double jumper attributed into everything separate Metroid basically,
so we don't have a ton of metraid on here yet.
Speaker 2 (01:08:35):
Uh. I probably would go with space jump, like Shawn
is saying, Bash is so specific and it's like, maybe
it's just like a like that's what I'm thinking. I'm
thinking about the specific metroly veena abilities from specific game.
Speaker 1 (01:08:49):
You know what, should we just change this one to
a top five? Because I think that might be that
might be tripping us up this time, because when we
talk about Mount Rushmore, we talk about like it's iconographic,
it's emblematic of the entire genre and all this stuff,
and I think we are maybe in this instance, talking
about these are the best? Do you want to switch
it to a top five and do five of them?
(01:09:14):
In that case, double Jump is still going to be
number one.
Speaker 2 (01:09:20):
Because right now everything is a bespoke specific figure except
for just the vague concept of double jumping.
Speaker 1 (01:09:26):
But now we can go back, now that it's not
a Mount Rushmore, I will go back to being the
Prince Frugia, the Lost Crown version. You know what? That
makes me feel better for some stupid that my bad brain. Okay,
let's see here, and now that's top five. It does
change it a little bit. Maybe Double Jump actually doesn't
(01:09:48):
need to be number one, but it probably will be.
All right, So what else are you thinking here?
Speaker 3 (01:09:52):
Then?
Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
I really like that Castlevania high Jump. I think that's
so good in these games. I know, similar to a
double jump, just a better double jump. Really gosh, I
think that shit is so freaking good. I get so
excited when I unlock these, I think, especially when I
was playing the Advanced Collection and I got got it
in Circle of the Moon, I was like, oh, hell yeah,
(01:10:15):
this feels so freaking There's like some boss fights that
kind of work around it in some of these games too,
or so there's like giant attacks that you can only
avoid by basically jumping to the roof of the room.
Speaker 1 (01:10:27):
Right Okay. I also bolded wall Jump from Super Metroid,
and that means, right now we would have double Jump
from Prince of Persia of the Lost Crown Bash and
or Morphball from Metroid, high Jump from Castlevania Symphony of
the Night, and wall Jump from Super Metroid. What would
you remove from that list to add something else? Or
(01:10:49):
does that begin to look good to you? Hm?
Speaker 2 (01:10:52):
I like Toyo Power a lot. It's basically a silly
or Morphball in a lot of ways. But I sure
about it, and that was that like, see now it's like,
ok if it's top five and it's.
Speaker 1 (01:11:01):
Not right, Yeah, I mean I would be willing to
drop more falls.
Speaker 2 (01:11:07):
Well, you probably maybe deserves a little love. I mean
more falls need to get more. Fall's iconic, right, it
looks cool, but now we're doing top five. I think
Power is more a more fun version of it in
a way.
Speaker 1 (01:11:18):
Okay, I'll move it up.
Speaker 2 (01:11:21):
Okay, yeah, yeah, you know Quackot mainly needs a little
love too, sometimes, I agree, Yeah, for sure, you can't,
just as much as we love Super Metroid.
Speaker 1 (01:11:33):
Okay, let's see here, Grapple being metric prime is cool.
But I don't know. You're right there and that makes it?
What about that shadows Shadow submerge, That's the one I'm
looking at.
Speaker 2 (01:11:45):
I think rules, I think it's there's a lot of again,
I like this. There's just a lot of uses for it. Yeah,
it's interesting because it's more combat focused one in a
lot of ways. There's some platforming stuff with it. It's
actually combat ability.
Speaker 1 (01:11:58):
Yeah, but it's like factors and everything. I used it
and platforming all the time because it would I would
create like a little safety valves or whatever. But they
also would have timed stuff in the platform and where
it's like you got to go here, but then now
you got to get back over there real quick, and
so you have to know to create a guy here
and and snap yourself back in time. Uh yeah, they
used it throughout the game to great effect. It's awesome.
(01:12:20):
It probably should be on the list. Then we're talking
about what are we were moving? I really like wall jump,
but maybe maybe dropping wall jump.
Speaker 2 (01:12:29):
Well, now I'm in the opposite thing. I was like, well,
we can't have nothing from Superman. Okay, yeah, well you
know what, though, we already have something for Prince and
Person Lost Crowd. Babe, you should get rid of that
one for this. For interesting, you'd need a build a.
Speaker 1 (01:12:48):
Way to got rid of double jump in the end.
Now we're keeping double jump. I am serious when I've
said this before. Getting double jump in Prince of Person
of the Lost Crown O made me cry. It was
it was so moving to me that I'm like, I
can't believe I finally got it in this game. This rules.
Speaker 2 (01:13:07):
I know, we got get rid of one of these jumps. Okay,
here's what I think. Here's a couple of moves. Actually
get rid of walt up for this, and let's maybe
actually put more back in.
Speaker 1 (01:13:23):
It.
Speaker 2 (01:13:24):
It was a nice idea. It was.
Speaker 1 (01:13:26):
It was beautiful.
Speaker 2 (01:13:27):
It was a beautiful idea.
Speaker 1 (01:13:31):
But there and then we're moving wall jumped down and
then we're moving up shadow simmers. Right. That's it.
Speaker 2 (01:13:43):
Now, Jeff. Here's the other thing that's affected by bad Braid.
Is that all these the ability that the name the game?
Except yeah, I was working I was working on what
the ability is.
Speaker 1 (01:13:57):
Yeah, I'm like, I want to kind of want to
explain it somewhere people, if you know, you know, Yeah,
I guess if you know you know, all right, let's
do that.
Speaker 2 (01:14:05):
Chat seems happy with me all of a sudden, I'll
take it.
Speaker 3 (01:14:13):
You could just make bush and push power more full
and push of power are the same thing. It's pretty
much the same thing.
Speaker 2 (01:14:20):
Yeah, but they're but they're not the same thing.
Speaker 3 (01:14:23):
The concept is the same, all right.
Speaker 1 (01:14:27):
I think it's I think start our five or how
do we feel about the order?
Speaker 2 (01:14:32):
Oh? We are we gonna order them ship double jump,
double jumps wine. Okay, actually kind of like that order.
That looks fine, lod for the audio listeners. But number
one is double jump for Prince of Persia to lost ground.
Number two is bash from Ori and the playing forest.
(01:14:53):
Three is the morphball from Metroid Forrest High Jump from
Casaban Sippy Night, and five is this Shadow submerb from
Prince of Persia Lost Crown.
Speaker 1 (01:15:01):
I like it? All right, good work there, Mikey. We
have decided the top five Metroid Vanya abilities.
Speaker 2 (01:15:08):
Wow, now you know it almost ruined our friendship.
Speaker 1 (01:15:11):
Yeah, I knew double jumping would come between us at
some point, and here we are.
Speaker 2 (01:15:17):
I guess what you say. Obviously this is a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:15:20):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:15:25):
There comes a fight.
Speaker 1 (01:15:27):
All right, Well that was fun. That's why we do these, everybody.
That's why you play the games so you can actually
talk it out. You're right, a true game mess.
Speaker 2 (01:15:34):
Now look at that Prince of Prinz Lost Crown with two.
It is the best Metroid van. We have to rereccon
what we did on We got to go fix that list.
We'll do our own fix a list on our own list.
All right, we're gonna take one more break. We'll come
back and talk about some other games that we've been playing.
Stop yelling at us.
Speaker 1 (01:15:57):
We're back.
Speaker 2 (01:15:59):
About Yeah, there's you know what we've done too much
of meat things. Don't talk to me about Shadow Complex
no more. We don't want to hear it get out
of here with that Xbox Live Arcide boomer booshit there
onload there.
Speaker 1 (01:16:19):
I've said it all right, Mike. What else have you
been playing other than Hollow Night Silk Song. H yeah,
everybody's golf hot Shots. I'm playing that on the rock
ally accident.
Speaker 2 (01:16:30):
Yet performance is weird because you know, it runs great
at first, and then when I leave it on for
a bit or put on hybernate mode, then it gets strange.
But oh well, but you know, I was just looking
for one of those I wanted to just play one
of those kind of simple golf games and it's good
at that. I like the kind of main career mode
(01:16:53):
where it's like you pick your character and it's a
series of you know, six or nine hole kind of challenges.
Something just sayeah, I play nine holes of golf and
win the tournament. Sometimes it's like play nine holes of
golf in the uh, you know the hole is going
to be super big in this one where it's a
one on one with specific character, so some slight changes
ups and there's some progression. You unlock new things you
(01:17:14):
can buy in the shop that might increase your stats
or as you know, food items you can eat. It's
weird because when I started the game, I only have
two characters I can play as, and I'm not even
entirely sure how I unlock more, and you have to
play in a bit I haven't. Necessarily I have a
lot more that I can play in some weird optional
story mode thing I haven't touched. Maybe I needed to
do that to play it, but they did say the
story about that you can either you can play it
(01:17:36):
with or without the story parts. Without trying it, I'm like,
I probably will not play the story parts I imagine.
I mean, like Tetris that add that campaign mode. If
a lot of those characters talking to each.
Speaker 1 (01:17:48):
Other, right, they yell peep and stuff, and yeah, the
sound alerts, Yeah totally.
Speaker 2 (01:17:52):
Yeah, I imagined to be something like that. But yeah,
you know, it's not there's not doing anything amazing or
that's blowing me away. But yeah, it's one of the
those golf games at a time. We haven't had one
in a while, so it's it's I was enjoying playing it.
It's something that I could see with maybe going back
to every now and then. I don't have a whole
lot of experience with hot shots or Everybody's Golf, though
(01:18:13):
I didn't really. I wasn't a big fan of that series.
At same time, something I want to go back to.
I picked up I think Hot Shots Golf three for
the PS two recently, so.
Speaker 1 (01:18:21):
I think I was supposed to be pretty good.
Speaker 2 (01:18:23):
I know one of those like two or three people
really swear by, right, So yeah, I'm gonna give that
a LOOXI.
Speaker 1 (01:18:29):
Here cool, Yeah, I'll check it out as well. I've
been curious, right I same as you, never played these
games very much. It was always just like, no, I
got Mario Golf, and then I know that those games
were related in terms of development developers at some point.
So I was always like, I'll just go with Mario
Golf and spend a lot at a time, right right exactly,
And so my head was always like, ah, I'll play
(01:18:51):
the real thing. And then but then, you know, people
love those games. So I was always curious, just never
got around to them. And then this one's not the
developer that people really like. Laphands. They have another golf
game that is out on the Switch. I can't remember
what it's called. Chat was mentioned talking about it earlier,
but I'm still curious about this everybody's golf game. So
I'm glad to hear that. You're mostly like, yeah, this
is delivering what I want from a golf game, right, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:19:12):
Going with mild expectations, I think you'll have a fun time,
uh anything else, Mike Gosh that Soak song. I was
playing less play the Spire and had good time. I
think I talked about that. So I did play that
Ano demo. I played Ano one one nine No one
one seven. It adds up to nine one one seven
Pax Romana. I think I like those Ano games. I
(01:19:35):
talked about them before. It's it's neat because they always
change the date, right, and the date has to the
digits of the date has to add up to nine.
It's some weird rule they created. And what that does
is basically just change the aesthetics of the game.
Speaker 1 (01:19:48):
Right.
Speaker 2 (01:19:48):
There's one that's twenty that's twenty seventy and it's near future.
There's one that's like twenty two thousand, two hundred and
fifty or something like that, and that one is far future.
The last one was eighteen hundred. But again, like it
mostly just changes the aesthetics of it all. So even
though Timeline was this one is much earlier than any
(01:20:09):
of them. It's like, okay, so everything looks a bit
more Roman here, right, and all that stuff, And I
do like having that flavor what is neat And I
played the demo. The demo is just down on Steam
right now. This game comes down in November, and it
was basically their game's calm demo. But there was kind
of two different campaigns that could play. And the one
it's like, okay, we're Romans, were like in Rome, we
have like Roman islands. But the other one was, oh,
(01:20:29):
it's the Romans sort of you know, an occupied England
right back when it was a very Celtic nation. So
it's a very different kind of thing going on there.
More marsh lands. You're sort of dealing with, you know,
a local populace there. You kind of decide how much
you tried to Romanize them or not. So that stuff
is really interesting and it was a very fun four
(01:20:51):
X game. I like how it's a focus more on
the city building aspect of it. It's so much like, Okay,
you have people of your city, but for them to
be happy, they want hats. What to get hats, you
have to make hemp That makes.
Speaker 1 (01:21:07):
A city of back of ours.
Speaker 2 (01:21:08):
It's a city of backlars. You gotta make hemp for
the back al arts and hats. So it's a lot
of like, Okay, you got to build these farms to
build this thing, and then because you have that, you
need this, and because you have this, you need that.
So like it just starts simple and just constantly grows
in complexity in a very satisfying way.
Speaker 3 (01:21:24):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:21:24):
Yeah, I've always been curious just hearing the way you
talk about I. You know, I like a good four X.
I've mostly spent that time in civilization, but I agree
with you in concept about appreciating anything that's focuses on
the city management and city building stuff. So this, this
has always sounded appealing to me. Is this the one
maybe I should check out? Like, or is there another
(01:21:45):
one you're like, actually you should go to this one first.
Speaker 2 (01:21:47):
Or or what is any reason to like again, they're
all kind of doing similar things. Yeah, I play this one.
I mean, you know, I think that eighteen hundred, which
was the last one, was also very good. And then
aside from that, I think that Near Future one, which
is it came out twenty eleventh, a little bit older now,
but I think that twenty seventy is also very good.
So again, it's like part of it's either play the
(01:22:08):
newest one or if there's for some reason you really
want that ne near fut in a setting, right, you
really want something that's kind of like that. You know,
I know how much you love colonialism, right, one of
my favorites. Yeah, so maybe you'll be really into that one.
Speaker 1 (01:22:21):
I did spend some time trying out Star Wars Outlaws
on the switch To, and I am I am really
impressed with how that game runs on there.
Speaker 2 (01:22:28):
Now.
Speaker 1 (01:22:28):
It's thirty frames per second, but it's locked in such
a way that I don't mind it so much, especially
as someone who tried to get that game running on
both the Steam Deck and the rog ally a bunch
of times. I think I got it running okay on
the right rock Ally, it is running better on the
switch To, And the encouraging is definitely the main word
(01:22:48):
that I would use to describe like the experience, like,
oh wow, this makes me feel really good about where
the Switch two is at right now and where developers
can kind of get it to in the future. But
I'm also like I'm gonna I'll probably play more of
this game on here because it's a really good way
to play it. Now, a huge part of Star Wars
Outlaw is appeal for me, a game that I do
think is pretty good. It's like a really strong seven
(01:23:11):
low eight that sort of range. The main appeal is
definitely the aesthetic walking around these planets that can often
feel like really good you know, theme park, sort of
like queues, where it's like there's a bunch of stuff happening,
like there's a food stand and there's a bunch of
aliens around there eating, and as long as you're not
(01:23:33):
trying to interact with it or do anything with it,
it looks alive and cool and has a lot of
Star warsiness in all of its aspects. And you're gonna
miss out on some of that with the reduced level
of fidelity because of the handheld. But if you're just
trying to play through this game and you still get
some of that effect, it still does that to a
certain degree, and you are still flying around on the
(01:23:54):
ship and going to different planets and encountering all these
familiar regions or some places that maybe you only read
about on Wikipedia or whatever. It still delivers that, and
then it's very playable on the switch To. It's not like, okay,
it reduced the visuals to the point where actually now
doing this core mission to the game is a little
(01:24:14):
bit of a pain. It's like, no, there's none of that.
It is again, it's a full on video game that
feels like it could have been made for the switch
To in a lot of ways. You know, I called
this out on some of the other shows. One of
the big reasons that this is impressive is this game
has ray tracing built into it. And we heard that
the switch To would support hardware ray tracing, and that
(01:24:34):
was something I think I and everyone else laughed off, like,
come on, what are you talking about. No one wants that.
No one's going to. No developers can actually destroy their
game's performance to get ray tracing on the switch To.
That's stupid. I wasn't thinking at the time. Some of
these games are and there's not a lot of them,
but some of them are starting to get built in
such a way that they have ray tracing for some
(01:24:57):
lighting effects. You know, it's a light touch. It's not
the most demanding stuff in the world, but they have
it sort of built into the core fundamental way that
their game works. This is one of them. Indiana Jones,
I guess is one of them as well. And it's like, okay, well,
the switch to has enough horsepower and enough built in
ray tracing hardware to handle these specific circumstances, these games
(01:25:19):
that need ray tracing just to work, and if you
try to take it out, it'll actually break the game.
Something that's happened on PC where people try to remove
the ray tracing and it just kind of makes the
game look really bad. So yeah, encouraging, I'll go back
to that. And that's the game I had to save
fourteen hours in Ubisoft Connect. I was able to just
get it from the cloud put it right on here.
That was really cool. Well did you figure that out?
(01:25:41):
It seems like you're struggling with that away. I figured
it out right away. It was I had one save
that I think is busted and it was just loading forever.
It was just it was just kind of like stuck
on the loading screen. So I just went to a
previous say, you can only have one cloud save at
a time on Ubi stuff Connect, so I just had
to go back to the PC. It's actually what I
was doing when I was in that call with you,
earlier when you were playing a Hollow Night, and so
(01:26:02):
I just swapped out the saves and this one. That
one worked, and I was like, okay, so I'm good
to go. I'm you know, thirteen hours and fifty minutes, lost,
ten minutes of progress whatever. I don't remember what I
was doing anyhow, So I just kind of picked up
and started doing some stuff. It's a game that I
continue to think will be more positively, you know, looked back,
looked back upon with time. But you know, I'm also
(01:26:24):
realizing when people say they didn't like this game, they're like,
I didn't like it because Star Wars is lightsabers to
me and you don't get to be a Jedi. I'm like, oh, yeah, right,
if that's what you like about Star Wars, oh gosh,
I agree. I oh yeah, it gives me the willies.
I like, for real, I'm like, that's grossing. That's a
gross thing to say. But I also recognize to some
people that's all Star Wars is because they don't give
(01:26:46):
a shit about Star Wars. They were like, the cool
thing about Star Wars are Jedi's and say, okay, well
that's not what it is to me. But I think
this game does an amazing job of delivering on the
fantasy of living, of living in the Star Wars world.
But if you want a Jedi that this is just
not that that game, and then you know, to be fair,
it's also a lot of Ubisoft slop. Is you know,
(01:27:06):
kind of core to how the game works.
Speaker 2 (01:27:08):
Yeah, I mean definitely came out at a time where
people's opinions of Star Wars and Ubi software at low points.
It was just sort of this thing. I was always
going to have an upward climb. Yeah. I did get
a code for this one. I am excited to try it.
I haven't really played much of it outside of a
preview I did back before the game first came out,
and I was positive in the preview, and I just
didn't really have time to jump in when the full
(01:27:29):
game came out. I'm kind of glad I could wait
for this and hopefully give it a go. As big
a game a Silk Song is. I could see myself
blasting through that relatively quickly here and then I I
want to give Outlaws here a shake for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:27:43):
Yep. I think, Man, if these games like this could
just run it forty frames per second, this is another
thing I've said a bunch of places recently, but that
would just be oh that would switch to would be
kind of be perfect for me. But as is the
lock thirty frames per second, it doesn't feel like super choppy,
like I'm missing all kinds of information as I'm turning
the camera around. It feels relatively smooth for what it is.
(01:28:05):
So Yeah, I'm happy with him. Uh that that's it
for me. I don't think there's anything else really that
I talked about that we didn't talk about on last
and then ten Dogs or whatever. So I think we
could probably start wrapping things up after we clean up
the super chats.
Speaker 2 (01:28:18):
Sure, thing here, where do we leave off?
Speaker 1 (01:28:20):
Is this?
Speaker 2 (01:28:21):
What plus plus one? F the Brett Farres so super
plastic says, I'm late, but Christian fuck with toku Yo,
I'm your guy for said Tai, I've got you covered.
I even have a podcast.
Speaker 3 (01:28:33):
Cool, what's what's the podcast? What's the name of the pokes?
Speaker 1 (01:28:37):
Yeah, trying to drop this podcast name and the Yeah
put it in chat. Well we'll promote it. Sure.
Speaker 2 (01:28:41):
Chris Cambrick says, what about the plasma beam in Metroid
tearing through multiple emmis that once feels so good to
do close the end game. That is good. Even being
able to shoot through the walls is a good feeling
in that.
Speaker 1 (01:28:51):
Yeah that I love that. Yes, that's a wave beam
that does that or whatever.
Speaker 2 (01:28:55):
Yeah, we'll be able to do best like weapons.
Speaker 1 (01:28:59):
God that moment where you where you become a metroid
and metroid dread, that's that's some good stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:29:05):
Marina sissles playing My kids and almost lost the finger
because my ring finger got swollen. Oh ouch, man, I've
seen there. That's why I you you wear your ring?
Speaker 1 (01:29:16):
Yeah, I always wear my ring. My keyboard just change colors.
That's really weird.
Speaker 2 (01:29:22):
Yeah, I just lost a bunch of ways. You're like
ring loose now? Or is your finger fat still the same?
Speaker 1 (01:29:27):
Well? I think because I got this ring when I
was a little bit maybe even less than I am now,
So it's yeah, it kind of always adjusted and it
kind of just goes in this like little nook here
that doesn't get a ton of fat. So yeah, it's yeah,
my little finger knuck exactly. Only only you are allowed
to talk about my finger knuck, all right, And to.
Speaker 2 (01:29:49):
Him, Morohle says, congrats, boys, this is the worst list
you've made. No one says what their problem with the
list is?
Speaker 1 (01:29:53):
Jeff?
Speaker 2 (01:29:53):
In fact, on Blue Sky where you post it, nobody
seems to have a problem at all. What is what
is everyone so mad about? Even?
Speaker 1 (01:29:59):
Yeah, maybe it's just our listeners that are our problem.
It's about time we take you all down a peg.
You have been a real bunch of ships.
Speaker 2 (01:30:07):
There's gonna be some changes around here.
Speaker 1 (01:30:10):
The beatings will continue, and so morale improves.
Speaker 2 (01:30:13):
Okay here, Sean, all right, Sean, what's wrong? I left?
Speaker 1 (01:30:31):
Says bash is bad ship? Oh man? Does your fiance
know that your bad at video games? Chuck? Okay? Two
(01:30:53):
jumps with no space jumpers in Sandy. I'm sorry, I
mean yeah, it was we were trying to do a
bunch of different games. Look.
Speaker 3 (01:31:07):
Yeah. Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:31:12):
Mike O'Leary says, I'm just playing out. I'm glad YouTube
finally did something right and went back to display names
instead of at handles a real w Yeah, I just
noticed that what you said that? Yeah, this is much
easier to read. Actually uh, and then assaulted a boss.
He says, you're a nice person, Mike. It's okay if
you can't pronounce Oh boy, here we go. I have
to say it now. Chimney Chimney, Chimney, chimney. Ye kay,
(01:31:38):
love you both. I got more right than wrong, that's you.
Speaker 1 (01:31:41):
Damn. That was a passing grade for sure, Like even
like like maybe a B like that was pretty good.
Speaker 2 (01:31:47):
Thank you, thank you. Chimney Chimney, Chimney, chimney, chimney, chimney, chimney.
Speaker 1 (01:31:51):
All that. All of those were so bad.
Speaker 2 (01:31:53):
It's so freaking hard. I got really fucked up by
Disney on.
Speaker 1 (01:31:56):
That one, Dick fan, Dike, how dare you?
Speaker 2 (01:32:00):
That's for sure? Uh, that's like one of the all
time good bad accents, by the way, right Dick, Oh yeah,
I mean it's terrible, but we love it.
Speaker 1 (01:32:09):
It's that it's clearly John Malkovich in that Poker movie
where he's doing the Russian accent and uh, and like
everyone was like Matt Damon tells a story about how
everyone on set was like, John Malkovich is gonna be
here later when we're filming. We can't wait. And it
was weeks and weeks and then finally they had to
shoot the John Malkovich scenes and he does the accent
and everyone sort of looks at one another like what
(01:32:31):
the fuck? Actually, no, everyone applauded, and Matt Damon was
looking at him like, wait, are you serious? And John
Malkovich leans over says, I'm actually a very bad actor.
And it's like, I don't think Tick van Dyke did that,
but rounders, thank you, thank you. That's the movie.
Speaker 2 (01:32:54):
Incredible thing.
Speaker 1 (01:32:55):
Yeah, that's such a power movie. Yeah, like everyone's applauding
you and you just whispered to your co star, I'm
terrible at this. That's good stuff, Like, yeah, yeah, ain't
other super chats that we're good?
Speaker 2 (01:33:11):
Just making sure I've just thought. I usually there's I
guess some kind of signal from you. I was just
I was just wow, it's happening.
Speaker 1 (01:33:17):
Yeah, it's happening. There's nothing to have to do on
this show.
Speaker 2 (01:33:20):
We are we done. It's fine.
Speaker 1 (01:33:23):

I am Yeah, I like it.
Speaker 2 (01:33:27):

Speaker 1 (01:33:31):
