Speaker 1 (00:02):
What's up everybody.
It's your favorite show'sfavorite show Get a Bucket.
I'm your host, trey, and, asusual, I hope you're all having
a wonderful, wonderful day.
Today we're going to talk aboutthe WNBA's 2025 draft, but
before we do that, make sure youhit that like and subscribe
button, comment, tell anyonewho's anyone about the show.
I'm trying to get the ratingsup a little bit, just a little
bit, but, like I said, we'regoing to talk about the WNBA
draft.
It was a good one.
(00:23):
I have a couple gripes.
I did like it overall, butlet's go ahead and get on to the
draft, right, because we cansay that the number one draft
pick was a gripe for me, bro.
It was such a gripe.
Let's talk about it.
So, as you guys can see on thescreen, we have Paige Beckers
going number one To the DallasWings.
(00:44):
We have Paige Beckers goingnumber one To the Dallas Wings.
Shout out to Paige Beckers andthe Dallas Wings, bro, because
they did a wonderful job.
That's a wonderful pairing.
I have a gripe, though, because, as a Sparks fan, this should
have been us, but we play, andat least the WNBA was.
I'm so perturbed right now, bro, but why am I perturbed?
You might be wondering Well, again, paige Becker's champion
(01:07):
right now, but also, she's had awell-decorated career and if it
wasn't for injuries, we wouldhave been talking about Paige
over Kaitlyn Clark.
I wholeheartedly believe that, but we'll see what happens in
the WNBA.
Right, she's a six-foot guardcoming out of UConn and for me,
she's the complete package.
Ok, she's a star quality, shegives you efficiency, she's
elite, scoring, playmaking, gooddefender with effort.
(01:28):
Like I said, the worst thingabout her was her injuries.
Ok, but for me, I want her onmy squad.
Biggest storylines Well, again, like I said, she was a champion,
recent champion.
So how does that play into theWNBA?
We might have high expectationsof Paige Beckers, especially
with how she played this seasonin college basketball, also
(01:53):
because of some notable rookies.
Right, you got to consider well, kaitlyn Clark, angel Reese
they hooped, they got a bucketright, all right.
Well, paige has to do that samething, especially when I'm
saying, oh, I think she's gonnabe better than Kaitlyn Clark.
Yeah, she's been better for hercareer.
She gotta do so in the WNBA aswell.
So I'm expecting to see thosestorylines.
(02:16):
And then my final one ArikeAgumawale and the pairing with
Paige Beckers.
Will this be a dynamic duo, orwill this start to mean Arike is
going to get traded?
Paige is the younger player.
She's also a little taller aswell, so she can play the one or
the two.
Maybe if you're Dallas Wings, you're thinking you can get a
huge haul back for ArikeAgumawale and now you can start
(02:39):
building for the future withPaige Beckers.
So I'm looking for thosestorylines, ladies and gentlemen
, coming this season.
But overall I think it shouldbe a good one and keep in mind I
really appreciate how we havePaige Beckers coming into the
league and I've always said, hey, bro, she reminds me of like
(03:01):
Diana Taurasi, right, maybe asmidge of Sue Bird for the
efficiency piece and playmaking.
But it's not like DT couldn'tplaymate, but the aggressiveness
, the scoring, the confidence.
I love that from Paige andthat's what I saw out of Paige
Beckham.
That's why I thought she wasgoing to be the next DT.
So it's perfect.
It's poetic Not perfect becauseI also wanted DT to still play
one more season, paige even goto the Mercury, but it would
have been poetic.
It's poetic seeing PaigeBeckers coming into the league
(03:24):
right as DT retires.
So again, ladies and gentlemen,I'm hurting for the Dallas
Wings.
Kudos to you all.
Y'all got a good one.
Now we got to talk about thenext pick, ladies and gentlemen,
because it was an interestingone again.
Ladies and gentlemen, I can'thold y'all.
This one hurt me too.
This and gentlemen, I can'thold y'all.
(03:44):
All right, this was, this was, yeah, this one hurt me too.
This one hurt me too.
Y'all ready for this one?
Dominique malanga, number twopick.
If y'all paying attention toright here, this from las, this
means it was a trade from losangeles sparks, we could have
grabbed her too.
We could have got her as well.
And keep in mind, ladies andgentlemen, I do see star quality
(04:09):
out of Dominique Malanga.
This is a future pick for theStorm, but it could help out
right now.
It very well could.
We're talking about someonewho's 6'6".
They're calling her the victimwomen Yama of the WNBA.
I think we might have a soupedup version of Lisa Leslie, at
least from a physical standpoint.
Game-wise, we got to see, butthat's what I might be throwing
(04:33):
expectations on.
Star quality, I'm talking aboutelite athleticism and height
combination.
Shooting form was solid and thedefensive effort plus the motor
is there.
I she had a quick drop step, ladies and gentlemen, that sold
me off break, like that thingwas smooth.
So again, ladies and gentlemen, the only knock I had on her was
(04:54):
was her current opponent, wereher, uh, former opponents?
Fair assessments.
So now the storylines.
I'm going to be payingattention to dominica, this, the
development pace, right.
The playing time for year one, because you still got as a Magma
, gore, neca, neca, guma, kayla, you don't need to start her
right now.
So how much PT does she getRight?
(05:16):
Then you also got the defensiveanchor and offensive production
, year one.
Can we get that from her?
If we can, oh, buddy, sky's thelimit.
For the Storm 2, maybe Jewel Loyshouldn't have left, but then
again, if she didn't, theywouldn't have got her.
But after that, though, howabout something like the dunk
(05:39):
contest?
Because I just said she had adrop step that was crazy and
quick, effortless.
We can start talking about thedrop step.
How about the conversationlowering the rim?
I hate it personally, but Ithink it's going to start coming
up more.
I know for a fact.
It came up with me personallyin a conversation with some
friends recently.
(06:00):
So again, I could see DominiqueMalanga being a very
star-studded quality player.
Couldn't go left, couldn't goleft, I'll give you that.
I don't think it does.
Though Her physical tool set,she seems like she could
dominate.
So again, ladies and gentlemen,if you have not peeped, you've
got to watch Dominique Malanga.
(06:20):
She might surprise y'all.
I can't hold up, she mightsurprise you, guys.
But now we got to go ahead andmove on to the next pick,
because and here's the thing too, these next couple of picks are
going to be a little trickybecause I'm going to try to talk
about all of them at the sametime.
But it was by the WashingtonMystics, right, it was by the
(06:43):
Washington Mystics.
So let's bring up pick numberthree, shall we?
Sonia Citrone, and keep in mindI did guess one, two and three
in order for the WNBA pick.
So I'm really happy that theyhave been going according to
plan.
They went the way I expected.
Right, because not everyone hadDominique there but Sonia here
(07:03):
at number three.
I wholeheartedly understand it.
And here's the reason why too, ladies and gentlemen, okay, at
6'1" I do get a combination oflike a Maddie Segrist and a
Kayla McBride.
To me I get like starter orfringe all-star quality player.
She's a good shooter, like Isaid, a good overall player On
Notre Dame's team.
(07:23):
Good shooter, like I said, agood overall player on Notre
Dame's team.
The supporting cast could havelimited her or could have
boosted her up.
So that's one thing I do wantto pay attention to, but overall
I think it's more so it limitedher in terms of the stats that
(07:44):
she would have produced, becauseshe could have given a lot more
.
She's a very versatile playerand that is what the Mystics
ended up drafting.
Keep in mind they have playerson their team right now that can
help out.
Sonia needs to be learning fromthose players too.
So, definitely paying attention, definitely paying attention to
Sonia, but the Mystics, hey, they got a good player.
(08:04):
They really truly did.
Then let's scroll on down hereto the next one, nkiki Iriefin,
who 6'3" USC, ooey, like oldgirl, could get a bucket all
right.
And there's some comparisonsout there.
For me she kind of gave me.
I heard an Asia Wilsoncomparison before.
(08:26):
That one was interesting.
I saw a marcus aldridge meets atina charles, maybe possibly
favoring more on the, on the lashot, but at the same time I see
a little bit of tina as welltoo, which that's not a slight,
that's not.
That's not a slight.
Because that's not a slight,because Tina Charles is a
wonderful player.
If y'all know, you know right, but Kiki does give me star
(08:50):
quality vibes Not as much aslike Dominique or Paige Beckers.
I think we do have a littlestar in her though and that
could get brought out Because, remember, she's been playing.
She was on Stanford's team rightwith Cameron Brink, and then
after that she did her thing.
Then she went to usc.
Juju goes out and she did doher thing.
(09:13):
Not at the dominant rate that Iwould have wanted.
She did her thing, though shehad more eyes and expectations
on her.
Plus, you lose juju.
That's a lot to lose.
So I liked a lot of currie.
I liked Kiki Arieffin and whatI saw from her journey.
For me, she did battle someonelike an Aaliyah Edwards and she
(09:33):
got like 22.
So stuff like that, 22 points.
So stuff like that helps me outfor Kiki Arieffin.
So again, another pick by theWashington Mystics, and I think
we're going to do pretty wellwith this one.
Now I got to scroll down realquick, ladies and gentlemen,
only because we got to talkabout still the Washington
Mystics, and they had anothersolid pick in Georgia Amore.
(09:56):
Now I want to say this, thoughI do want to say this I was torn
at this pick right here.
I listed off Georgia Amoreinitially.
Then I started hearing someother players as well too, but
overall, because what did it forme was her height.
She's 5'6", quick as heck, andthat quickness, plus her
shooting ability, is going tohelp her out in the league.
(10:18):
Like I've mentioned in EnriqueAgumawale, which again she's
5'8", a little stockier right, but Georgia is extremely quick
and the height disparity hasn'treally hurt her.
Crystal Dangerfield, I think,is about 5'6", and Crystal was a
bucket Rookie of the Year, bythe way A little bit of a
journeywoman, but that's notbecause of her game, that's just
because of how the WNBA wassituated.
(10:40):
So, georgia Moore, I could seea similar sort of player.
When I'm thinking a, acomparison, right, I have to
think of an Arike, I have tothink of that sort of that style
of player like a crystal dangerfield Cause, again because of
that height.
But don't let that height foolyou, cause she has a mean little
step back and you have to playthat Honestly.
(11:02):
You have to play her drive orher step back, honestly.
No-transcript.
The Washington Mystics they hadthree good picks, ladies and
gentlemen, and I think acrossthe board we got to worry about
these storylines right, such asthe futuristic fit of the new
young three of the new young bigthree.
You got to factor in AaliyahEdwards now too, right.
(11:24):
So which one gets edged out ofthat big three?
I guess futuristic aspect forthe Mystics three.
I guess futuristic aspect forthe Mystics Also, do any of
these players play well enoughto now trade some of the
Washington Mystic players thatthey have, like the Vets Might
(11:44):
be able to.
So some of them do need to go.
By the way, I'm talking aboutthat on another video.
It's not because of their game,it's because I want to see some
of them on a contender now, andthe Mystics are still building
up.
Could be a playoff team On theright track though.
So again, I do like the Mysticsand what they did, but, ladies
(12:05):
and gentlemen, we got to seewhat they do.
Overall, those three picks, Iexpect them to stay, plus, you
got a Shakira Austin and you gotNalia Edwards.
It's going to be interesting tosee how these picks end up
playing out, I will admit, butthey can be a really big team
and height you can't teach andyou do need in the game of
(12:25):
basketball.
But again, I did say those areall of the Washington Mystics
picks that I'm going to talkabout.
We're talking about the topfive picks, right?
So, with that being said, ladies and gentlemen, who's the
fifth pick to talk about?
Well, you guessed it.
We should go ahead and starttalking about them.
It's the Valkyries, right Now.
(12:47):
Here's the crazy thing.
They ended up drafting you justyes, oh my gosh, I'm, I'm so
sorry, I just butchered that youstay.
You said, hey, all right, Iapologize if I messed it up
again.
I'm, I'm, I'm terrible.
I gotta get that right when thebalkary's talk about him again.
But this one surprised the hellout of me.
(13:07):
Ladies and gentlemen, I'm notgonna lie to you guys.
Here's the reason why Idefinitely thought.
Here's the reason why Idefinitely thought they were
going to go with a.
I need some more.
Oh yeah, I did that.
One would have been moreinteresting for me, just because
I think anisa does have starquality.
But you look at yesterday.
(13:29):
No, you stay, I'm sorry.
She, I, she was okay.
I gotta study more about a gamesix foot out of lithuania.
She can attack and penetratethe defense pretty well.
Get you open shots.
They're trying to compare herto a luka donchik.
(13:49):
That one's going to beinteresting.
I'm not going to lie to you guys.
I don't want to say, oh, she'sgoing to be, this was a missed
pick.
I don't because I don't want tobe that person, because, keep
in mind, there were a lot ofpeople who said that about
Christos Porzingis and LukaDoncic, and look what happened
with them.
Right, them right.
I can't say I was not sold onthe pick until I started
(14:17):
researching and I realized youknow what?
She did become the youngestdraft pick in WNBA history.
Lauren Jackson was the youngestpick and I think she was about
three weeks or so from becoming20 at the time, and now we got
yesterday, at seven months untilshe turns 20.
(14:37):
So we got a little bit of timefor her to develop.
So this pick could work out.
Ladies and gentlemen, I do havesome trepidations because, again
, overlooking players likeAnissa Morrow like that's going
to remember that.
I'm going to remember that one.
Maybe, if Haley Van Liff startspopping off, I'm going to
(14:58):
remember that one.
How about Sanaya Rivers?
I like Sanaya, that would havebeen cool.
But again, overall, theValkyries are trying to showcase
that they're going in adifferent direction and they
need somebody to sell theaudience and maybe they think
this is the girl.
So we're going to find out.
(15:19):
But I mean overall, ladies andgentlemen, this was a wonderful,
wonderful WNBA draft.
I only talked about top fivebecause, again, everybody else
and more so the top five I'mgoing to talk about on my team
breakdowns, so definitely be onthe lookout for those.
But overall, I'm curious aboutyour thoughts of the WNBA's
draft.
(15:39):
What did you think?
Did you like it?
Did you not like it?
Did you have gripes, likemyself?
I know I'm still kind of pissed.
I ain't going to lie to y'all,I'm not going to lie to y'all,
I'm still a little annoyed, butannoyed.
But we're going to see whathappens with the WNBA.
So definitely please make sureto like, subscribe, comment,
tell anyone who's anyone aboutthe show.
My name is Trey.
I'm the host of Get a Bucket.
Hope you all are having a goodone.
(16:00):
Take care.
