Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's up everybody?
It's your favorite show'sfavorite show Get a Bucket.
I'm your host, trayne.
As usual, I hope you're allhaving a wonderful, wonderful
day Now.
Today we're going to talk aboutthe WNBA's 2025 trade deadline,
but before we do that, pleasemake sure to hit that like and
subscribe button.
Comment, tell anyone about theshow, trying to get the ratings
up a little bit.
You know, just a little bitgood one.
I don't know if y'all know this, but it did just pass.
(00:21):
The trade deadline did justpass.
Now, as y'all can see here, wedo have a couple of things that
happened, but just know, fromreally the start of the season,
which was around this time frameUp until August 7th, that's the
(00:46):
trade.
Then, all right, so you hadthat amount of time to make
trades.
Now you can still sign someplayers, but that was, that was,
that was the date for the tradedeadline.
Ladies and gentlemen, now therewere four.
There were four signings thatI'm going to talk about
specifically, because I thinkthese signings had the biggest
(01:07):
impact, not only to the teamsbut the WNBA.
I'm talking about contenders,I'm talking about champions.
Ladies and gentlemen, that'swhat we're going to be looking
at and, of course, with this topfour.
There's got to be a winner outof everybody, right Out of
everybody.
So, with that being said, ladies and gentlemen, can we go
(01:31):
to the top signings?
And, matter of fact, I'm goingto just get on soapbox right
fast.
I personally believe that theseare good signings, okay, so I
need you all to stay with me.
Now, in no specific order, bythe way, too, we're going to
give the winner at the end.
Let's bring up the first signing, Dijonay.
(01:55):
Now, look, dijonay, my badcharacter.
She got traded to the Lynx fromthe Wings and I had question
marks about Dijonay on the Wings.
If she were about 6'1", 6'2", Imight not have as many question
(02:17):
marks, but because she's ashorter guard about 5'10", I
like her on this Wings squadBecause I think she does pair
well for the present day team.
Now, one year rental.
We got to have a question markbecause she could go elsewhere
next year.
She might resign, especially ifthe Lynx go far.
(02:38):
Right, they just went to thefinal.
So if they go back, why wouldshe not want to spin the block
right?
What if she goes elsewhere?
That's my only caveat to thissigning of Desjardins, because
they lost Diamond Miller, whothat's someone who I was a big
fan of personally Like whenNafisa Khalil wasn't here her
rookie year Diamond Miller's.
She was hooping.
(02:59):
She was getting a little buckat about 12, 13 points a game as
a rookie ain't bad.
Efficient as well too, but atleast pretty efficient.
And I mean for me that's afuture core player that you lost
.
She was signed up until about2027, if I'm not mistaken.
So, granted, you lose thatcaliber player.
She has not played that much.
Got to figure out why you bringin Dijon A If she leaves.
(03:20):
That's my only thing.
Outside of that, this was awonderful signing for the Lynx
Because again you get anotherguard or another perimeter
defender at the guard positionwho can also get a bucket.
It's low-key, hard to come by.
It's low-key, hard to come by.
She kind of gives you a littleMarcus Smart vibes.
A little Marcus Smart vibes.
That's all I'm going to say.
(03:41):
But I do like that signing forthe Lynx.
We're not going to talk toomuch about it.
Shout out to the Stud Budsedition, because I do like that
edition to the team.
I will say this to the dildofans out there this might be the
only team I can see youthrowing a dildo at only because
they mentioned it on their showStudBuzz.
(04:03):
That's the only reason, strappyLappy, that's the only reason
why I was in outside of that.
And even then, don't throw nomore.
Can we stop throwing the dildos, please?
I appreciate that.
I know there was an articlethat came out about that.
We'll talk more about that, butI had to throw that in there
right quick.
(04:26):
Now, going on from the Lynx, let's talk about another team,
shall we the Storm?
They brought in my girl, brittany Sykes.
Ladies and gentlemen, I havesaid all season long, brittany
Sykes is a WNBA star without thecachet, and I'm glad she has
been proving me right thisseason again.
Like she was an all-star andinitially she wasn't supposed to
(04:47):
be.
She didn't get voted ininitially, which I thought was a
slight to Brittany.
Like she was the best player onthe Mystics, but she ended up
making the all-star team becauseof injuries and she showed out
she played well.
Well, she gets to play alongsidetwo no three, no four really
(05:10):
good players on the Storm Squadand it makes me wonder, damn,
can they be contenders again?
Because I think with heraddition she is that star piece
that can help Nneka, that canhelp Skylar.
She doesn't have to carry ateam.
She can, though let's notforget, the Mystics were in
playoff contention about themiddle of the pack with her at
(05:34):
the helm.
Now we're lessening her role.
She can do quite well.
I've seen her on my sparksbefore.
Do well white.
Well, I've seen her on mysparks before.
Do well Now.
When I look at what the Stormhad to give up Alicia Clark, zia
Cook plus a 2026 first roundpick their own, by the way, got
(05:55):
to throw in that Alicia Clarkdidn't play that much.
Weirdly, zia Cook young didn'tplay that much either.
So, and that first round pick,it's's their own.
They're going to the playoffs.
Ladies and gentlemen, they'vebeen fairly consistent in the
playoffs.
They have my sparks pick, sothey're cool.
They still have another pickleft and they.
(06:17):
They just got dominique malanga, the number two pick in this
year's draft from my, because mylost it, because we've got
Kelsey Plum.
So the Storm are cool.
Bringing in Brittany Sykes.
That fits their immediatefuture or immediate present.
She could possibly play for thefuture, or let's see what
(06:38):
happens.
Maybe they make more tradeslater on.
Either way, I do like thisaddition for the Storm Because
you can start Brittany, you canbring her off the bench, she can
be in the death lineup, meaningthe closing five.
There's a lot of things you cando with that, but let's move on,
though, because we got moresignings to talk about.
That's two out of the four.
So the third signing that Iwant to talk about, dewana
(07:00):
Bonner.
Whoa, okay, now, this one wasgood.
Now, this one was interestingbecause it was a pure signing.
You got to remember, the IndianaFever had Dewana Bonner.
Then they cut her.
Oh, I wish I had some scissorsaround.
Oh, I got some right here.
(07:20):
And they read too.
You know what I'm saying, saying I gave her the boot, bro,
and she also wanted to go too.
And I get it, because I alsothought they weren't utilizing
her properly.
You have what's about six, one, six, two, six, three.
Lanky can shoot the ball form.
You can say it's ugly, I'llgive it to you, but she'd be
making that thing, she'd begetting a bucket.
(07:41):
So with that and she's alsoshown that she can lock down
younger players still Shout outKaitlyn Clark, because she did
lock your ass down in theplayoffs.
Now, trust me, I recorded thehighlights.
So when the Mercury signed her,you got to remember who they
have Kalia Copper, satu Savaliand, of course, alyssa Thomas,
(08:04):
the triple-double queen.
Ladies and gentlemen, that's astar-studded squad right there.
That's four players who can getyou a bucket and defend, but
most importantly, they all don'thave to start.
Like Dewana Bonner's alreadyshown on the Indiana Fever, she
can come off the bench.
So again, this is a puresigning.
They lost nobody.
(08:24):
And you're pairing DeJuannaBonner, who has a chip on her
shoulder, with her boo, who's atriple-double queen, in Alyssa
Thomas, who I call top five inthe WNBA.
Again, ladies and gentlemen, that is a tough signing to get,
and I did say last year I didwant Dewana and Alyssa to kind
(08:48):
of go separate ways.
Right, if so, god like to see.
But if they go to the samesquad, I ain't mad at it.
You know what I'm saying.
So we tried this direction.
Now we're going to bring itback to unit.
Y'all see what I'm doing, y'allsee where I'm going with that
one.
We got love in there.
So again, I'm loving thissigning for the Mercury because,
loving basketball reasons,nobody did it.
(09:12):
But let's go ahead and talkabout the next one, because I
think this one again is a reallygood one as well too, and
that's Emma Mieseman for the NewYork Liberty.
Ladies and gentlemen, ladies andgentlemen, again, this is a
pure signing.
The Liberty did not lose Not athing.
(09:34):
And keep in mind, too, theLiberty have actually been going
through a lot of injuries overthis season.
Sabrina Inescu's been out, johnQuayle Jones has been out,
vienna Stewart has been out andis still out.
It's nice that they can have atreasure trove of players Like
they.
Only Phoebus was out for alittle bit of time just to go
play football for you I meanbasketball in the EuroLeague and
(09:56):
then come back Like they'vebeen without some talent.
Now Gotta give them credit.
But signing Emma Mieseman, the2019 WNBA Finals MVP, that's
crazy.
No trade.
She won on a team which is alsoinsane to think about.
(10:17):
So getting her on this squad, you can bring her off the bench,
you can start her.
She's at 6'4", she can playyour power forward, she can play
your center.
Right now, she's giving youabout 12 to 14 points with, like
, full rebounds, full assists,1.3 steals, 1.3 blocks.
If that holds up, that's insaneto think about having at your
(10:40):
disposal.
In addition to the players thatthey got Sabrina, natasha Cloud
, leone Phoebus, breanna Stewart, finals MVP herself Jonquil
Jones Ridiculous.
So again, this New York Libertyteam signing Emma Mieselman, not
losing a player Crazy's justinsane and like, I hate to say
(11:06):
it, but if they're able toretain this, this roster, you
know for a fact, the expansiondraft is definitely going to be
targeting this squad.
Oh, I'm I'm selecting players,bro, and they're good players.
It's crazy, it's wild.
But, ladies and gentlemen, wegot to talk about the winner.
(11:29):
I gave a top four.
Y'all have heard the peopleright.
We got to talk about EmmaMieseman, dewana Bonner,
brittany Sykes, dejanayCarrington.
All four players will dowonders for their team.
(11:49):
All four teams are contendersand are stronger contenders now
just because of these signings.
So, because of this, ladies andgentlemen, who the winner?
It's a tough one.
I got to go Emma Miesemann.
(12:11):
I got to go Emma Miesemann.
Reason why?
Notice how, even in thestatements, I was saying they
ain't trade nobody, they ain'tgive nobody up.
Ladies and gentlemen, that's alot, that's a lot to think about
.
And again, I had slight depthconcerns for the Liberty when
(12:33):
they lost Phoebus right, becauseI didn't know if she was going
to come back or not.
Did she get injured?
We'll see what happens.
They already out Benadji Laney, but they got Natasha Cloud.
Like I spoke on the injuries.
You got to get the cohesionEmma Meese have been coming to,
coming to the squad now thatjust adds to the depth.
Again, ladies and gentlemen, forme this was a no-brainer.
(12:54):
I also thought about DawanaBonner because of the chip that
she has on her shoulder.
Like again, ladies andgentlemen, I get it, dawana, but
the Indiana fever caused aproblem and I really want to see
the fever versus the mercury inthe first round.
I really, truly do.
If we could get that, oh my God, that would be amazing.
That's what happened last yearbetween well, I guess it was the
(13:17):
sun and the fever, but stillsimilar thing, and that would be
entertainment drama across theboard.
But the depth, I don't have asmuch value in for the Mercury as
I do the Liberty, and I get you.
(13:38):
You might even be able to say, well, damn, can't that mean that
the water matters more?
You can.
That's fair, that's a.
That's a very fair point.
Emma Mieseman, for me, can befinals MVP and on the depth of
this team, she can start, shecan finish, and I think the
Liberty can go a little furtherthan the Mercury.
Again, when I'm thinking aboutthe Mercury, ladies and
gentlemen, like who we got?
(14:04):
Monique Okoa Makani, khalilCopper, Satu Sabali, alyssa
Thomas and Natasha Macca as thestarters and then with Sammy
Whitcomb, dewana Bonner andKalani Brown coming off the
bench.
That's about an eight womanroster deep.
Okay, when we talking about theLiberty, I got Sabrina Ionescu,
(14:28):
leone Phoebus, brianna Stewart, emma Mieseman and Jonquil Jones
.
You can run that roster, youcan, or you can even throw, and
then you can have Natasha Cloud, rebecca Gardner, maureen
Johannes, isabel Harrison andNayara Sabali as the bench unit
and you can put Natasha Cloud inthat starting unit and bring
(14:50):
him off the bench.
You very well could.
I just wanted to have two bigsfor both units and then you got
Natasha Cloud with her boo,Isabel Harrison.
I see y'all, you know what Imean.
So again, they can run easily10 deep Easily, and then adjust
the rosters the mercury don't asmuch and again, not giving up
(15:11):
their depth is what sold it forme.
Because when you're looking atall right the storm, right the
storm.
Have skylar diggins, you can gobritney sykes, gabby williams,
neko gumake, ezi magma gore, andthen you got erica wheeler,
tiffany mitchell, skylar Diggins, you can go Brittany Sykes,
gabby Williams, nneka Ogumike, ezzie Magbogor, and then you got
Erica Wheeler, tiffany Mitchell, lexi Brown and Dominique
Malunga.
I do like that squad.
(15:34):
They're about nine deep.
You're relying on a rookieright now, dominique Malunga.
I got to have them develop alittle bit more, but they can go
deep as well too.
I do like that addition.
But again, if they kept AliciaClark, if they were able to keep
Alicia Clark, I think I mighthave considered Brittany Sykes a
little bit higher.
Now, if we're talking abouthere Dejanay and the Wings,
(15:57):
right, we got Courtney Williams,Kayla McBride, nafisa Collier,
bridget Carlton and Alana Smith, and then you got Dejanay
Carrington, natisha Heideman andJessica Shepard.
That's about an eight deeproster right there.
So again, and you lost youryoung piece too.
That one hurts.
That could be about number fouron the signing.
(16:18):
For me, number three would beBrittany Sykes again would vault
up to number one.
Number two, if you didn't giveup Alicia Clark and you just
gave up Zia Cook and a firstrounder.
I ain't mad at that, it happens.
But yeah, the Dewana Bonassigning and the Emma Mieseman
signing, yeah, those were thetwo at the top because, again,
(16:41):
they didn't give up anybody andthese are the contenders.
So I really hope that we get towatch these girls get a bucket,
like imagine if they play in theWNBA finals, liberty versus
Mercury, two different signings.
Would be kind of interesting tosee how they battle out.
But, ladies and gentlemen, thatdoes about conclude the end of
(17:03):
the episode.
So I'm very curious One did Imiss a signing Like, let me know
?
But, ladies and gentlemen, thatdoes about conclude the end of
the episode.
So I'm very curious One did Imiss a signing Like, let me know
, it's got to be during the WNBAseason, by the way, not talking
about the off seasons Duringthe WNBA season?
Did I miss one?
Am I bugging?
Was my win or wrong in youropinion?
Let me know.
But, ladies and gentlemen, Imean, like I said, the trade
(17:29):
deadline.
That episode is over.
So I definitely hope youcontinue to support the wmba,
but also continue to support myshow.
So, like I said, my uh, my nameis trey.
I'm the host.
Get a bucket, please make sureyou like subscribe, comment,
tell anyone who's anyone aboutthe show.
I guess I said all right, myname is Trey.
Hope you all are having a goodone, take care.
