The Warriors' recent 16-4 run since acquiring Jimmy Butler mirrors the dominance of the legendary 1996-1998 Chicago Bulls, with striking parallels between key players and roles. This comparison reveals why Golden State has legitimate championship potential this season, despite flying under the radar as contenders.

• Warriors have gone 16-4 since acquiring Jimmy Butler (as of March 27)
• 11 of their wins came against teams with winning records
• Their strength of schedule ranking improved from 24th to 11th since adding Butler
• Steph Curry (10 game-winning buzzer-beaters) parallels Michael Jordan (9 game-winners)
• Jimmy Butler fits perfectly into the Scottie Pippen defensive specialist/second option role
• Draymond Green's impact mirrors Dennis Rodman's defensive intensity
• Jonathan Kuminga could be their Tony Kukoc as a high-potential bench scorer
• Supporting cast includes Buddy Hield/Podenzki (Steve Kerr role), Gary Payton II (Ron Harper role)
• Looney, Post, and Jackson-Davis address potential size concerns

Speaker 1 (00:02):
What's up everybody?
It's your favorite show'sfavorite show Get a Bucket.
I'm your host, trey, and asusual, I hope you're all having
a wonderful, wonderful day.
Today we're going to talk aboutthe Warriors and how I believe
they might be comparable to the1996 to 1998 Chicago Bulls.
I know, I know that sounds alittle crazy.
I'm talking about right nowWarriors too.

(00:23):
But before we talk more aboutthat, please make sure you hit
that like and subscribe button.
Comment tell anyone who'sanyone about the show, trying to
get the ratings up a little bit, just a little bit.
But the Warriors and Bulls, youmight be thinking, how do they
even compare?
Right, warriors aren't at thetop of the league.
I hear it.
But, and keep in mind too, Iactually started writing this

(00:48):
whole episode out, talking aboutJimmy Butler, and I started
realizing some other stuff.
So that's why I'm curious whaty'all think about this topic.
But speaking of Jimmy, since theacquisition of Jimmy Butler the
Warriors have gone 16, and fourat least since March or up

(01:10):
until March 27.
That was the record, right.
And keep in mind, during that20 game span, 17 of those games
they had 11 teams that theyactually beat, that they
actually beat, and those teamshad a higher win percentage than
500.
That means if your record's11-11, you're at 500.

(01:38):
And they had 11 teams that theybeat that had that similar
record.
So it was either you're 500 orbetter.
That's pretty good.
And keep in mind, there's asuch thing as strength of
schedule, meaning the NBA ranksyour team's strength of schedule
in comparison to other NBAteams, and at the beginning of
the season, the Warriors didhave the 24th strongest schedule
.
Now, keep in mind, that's notthat high.

(02:01):
Since Jimmy, though, they havean 11th ranking for strength of
schedule.
That's kind of crazy.
Sos, please someone help me.
They got Jimmy.
That's crazy.
So they've been doing theirthing since the acquisition.

(02:21):
And keep in mind, ladies andgentlemen, you might even have
thought it.
You might have thought well, hey, jimmy's going to bring some
cons right, like he might besome.
He might bring somedistractions, like even, say,
for example, the Miami Heat game.
You might view the idea thatthere was rumblings that Miami
might not get him a tribute game.

(02:44):
That might be viewed as adistraction.
I hear that I do.
You might also think that himpairing with Draymond could be a
little tricky.
Maybe they butt heads too much, right?
How about his personality, clashing potentially with the
Warriors team overall.
Not just Draymond Green, because it's not like Jimmy is
the nicest guy, perception wise.

(03:05):
He could be a little rougharound the edges, perception
wise.
So maybe that, maybe that'syour, maybe that's your, your
gripe, right?
How about?
As you get older, your habitsdon't really change.
So you might think Jimmy isgoing to be the same person that
he always was on every singleteam, even though it's Steph's
squad.

(03:25):
I hear those Well again, ladiesand gentlemen, I don't think
that's the case right now.
And keep in mind too, they havebeen doing pretty well.
So let's see what happens asthe season goes on and as the
postseason commences.
But for that Bulls comparison, ladies and gentlemen, keep in.
The star of the Bulls wasMichael Jordan, and Steph Curry

(03:50):
is the star of the Warriors.
Both are immense players whochanged the game and both are
clutch, extremely clutch.
I've talked about that before,so go check that episode out if
you have not already.
But MJ got nine game winners atthe buzzer, steph got 10.

(04:11):
So it's safe to say that theseplayers with these
well-decorated careers can bestars.
And y'all might have thoughtJimmy Butler could be a star
because, again, he's had to be astar.
At a few places he's playedWell.
He can be Scottie Pippen.
The second option.
I'm okay with that.
Now I have called him JimmyJeffrey Jordan before, but he
don't have to play just like hisdaddy, ladies and gentlemen.

(04:33):
He can let Steph do that and heworry about Scottie's role,
which was cool.
Scottie can be the all-arounddefensive specialist that he was
, that can round defensivespecialist that he was.
That can be jimmy easily.
And if he ever needs to turn itup, he can.
And keep in mind y'all might bewondering well, who the third
off?
Who gonna be dennis robman?
Well, I can see that is asdraymond green actually like.

(04:55):
The impact that draymond greenhad could be similarish to
dennis robman.
I'm not saying draymond greenis going to get 15 rebounds in
the season, but I'm saying theimpact.
It could be that of a DennisRodman, it could be that of a
Horace Grant, even though Horacewas during that first step.
That's what I'm looking at itas.
And then y'all might bewondering who in the world is

(05:15):
going to be Tony Kukoc?
Then, please don't say JonathanKaminga, but I say Jonathan
Kaminga because, ladies andgentlemen, the initial
expectations of Tony Kukoc yougot to remember about and you
got to think that rivals that ofJonathan Kaminga Both of them
were expected to have reallygood NBA careers.

(05:35):
Tony did, in part because heplayed his role.
I think Jonathan Kamenga couldactually play this role, but
also have that Grayson Allen onDuke's 2015 championship squad,
where you come out and you'relike the fourth guy maybe less
than, but people know your nameoff this game.

(05:55):
I can see John DeComingo inthis situation and again playing
that Tony Cuco's role, givinghim 15 plus a game that's very
doable for Domingo, and he'sgoing to have some defensive
capabilities as well too.
Oh my gosh, that's going to beamazing.
Now we got to talk about theother role players like Steve
Kerr, and keep in mind SteveKerr was a solid shooter and
they got Steph Curry.

(06:16):
Keep, steve Kerr was a solidshooter and they got Steph Curry
.
Keep in mind Steve Kerr is thecoach of the Warriors right now,
so that's kind of fun to notealways, but they can have Buddy
Heald or Podensky do similarthings that Steve Kerr did.
I think that's fair.
Now, where you might have alittle issue is the height,
because, all right, cool, I hearyou.
Luke Longley, bill Winnington, dickie Simpkins those are your

(06:39):
big guys right?
Oh, I forgot about Ron Harper, because that could be Gary
Payton II.
Again, ladies and gentlemen, there's a lot of comparisons
outside of the height.
I do hear you you could havesome trepidation around the
height, until we think ofplayers like Kevon Looney, who
has been here before, he's achampion on the Warriors, in

(07:05):
fact.
So he knows the system prettywell, he knows his role.
How about Quentin Post, who'syoung and seven foot, can't
teach height?
And then also, for the powerforward slot, trace Jackson
Davis.
I love the energy he brings tothe game and he's shown he can
play a little small ball centerto the game.
And he's been.
He's shown he can play a littlesmall ball center.
So, ladies and gentlemen, theWarriors right now, I told y'all
they have Steph, who's a who'sa star, and we could talk about

(07:27):
if he's as clutch as Jordan ornot in some arguments.
Then you got Jimmy JeffreyJordan at Scottie Pippen's
position.
That's tough.
Like this Warriors team have alot of pieces to utilize.
So I'm going to be honest withy'all.
If the Warriors lose early, I'mactually looking down at Steve

(07:49):
Kerr because he has a solid teamin place right now that should
be viewed as a contender.
And again, ladies and gentlemen, when I say the Bulls I'm not
talking about the Warriors willwin a three-peat.
I'm not saying that If theyever do, I will be honest and
say I did not predict that thatwould be surprising, but I think

(08:10):
they could win a championshipright now, especially if
everyone's healthy on their teamright now, especially if
everyone's healthy on their team.
So again, ladies and gentlemen, the warriors of 2025 can in fact
look like the 1996 bulls.
But I'm curious y'all thoughtwhat do you think about the

(08:31):
warriors this season compared to96 bulls, or the 97 bulls of 98
bulls?
Pick a season, I don't care.
Let me know your thoughts belowin the comments, but definitely
