We explore the "Player Matter Formula" - how production and origin determine an athlete's importance to their franchise and city, with special emphasis on the controversial claim that hometown hero Derrick Rose matters more to Chicago than six-time champion Michael Jordan.

• Production (championships, stats, accolades) generally outweighs origin (hometown connections) in determining player importance
• The D-Rose vs Jordan debate hinges on whether being Chicago-born outweighs bringing six championships
• D-Wade vs Udonis Haslem presents a similar question for Miami – championship production vs hometown loyalty
• WNBA comparisons include Maya Moore vs Lindsay Whalen (Minnesota Lynx) and Candace Parker vs Sylvia Fowles (Chicago Sky)
• Players who bring championships to their teams tend to matter more regardless of where they were born
• Championships create lasting legacies that generally surpass hometown connections in the "Player Matter Formula"

Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's up everybody?
It's your favorite show'sfavorite show Get a Bucket.
I'm your host, trey, and asusual, I hope you're all having
a wonderful, wonderful day.
Today we're going to talk aboutthe importance of an athlete,
but before we do that, pleasemake sure to hit that like and
subscribe button.
Comment, tell anyone who'sanyone about the show, trying to
get the ratings up a little bit.
You know, just a little bit.
But, like I said, we're goingto talk about the player matter

(00:23):
formula, if you will, becauseyou might be wondering what is
this actually?
Well, for me, a player matterformula means how much does the
player actually matter to theorganization, and what that
ultimately factors is theproduction.
But it can also include theorigin of the athlete, like

(00:45):
where the athlete was actuallyborn.
Okay, that's what thatultimately means.
Now you might be wondering andthis also applies one to any
sport, by the way but two, we'regoing to talk about the NBA and
WNBA, because it's called get abucket.
Right, we talking about hoopshere.
So, ladies and gentlemen, uh,this kind of got brought to my
attention.
This topic came to my mindbecause I heard something very

(01:09):
wild.
Until I thought about it, I waslike, okay, maybe, but still
kind of sounds a little wild, right, um, hence why we got to
bring it on to wildentertainment.
But I heard that d rosemattered more than than than
than Jordan, like MJ the goat, did I read that?

(01:37):
Right?
Mj mattered more than toChicago.
Because the thing about thisnow, ladies and gentlemen, hell,
let's even bring up, shall webring up stats with it?
I think we can bring up somestats personally, but all right.
So if we're going to bring upoops, there we go.

(01:57):
Now, if we're going to bring upstats with it, ladies and
gentlemen, as we can clearly see, we got Michael.
Now, if we want to bring upstats with it, ladies and
gentlemen, as we can clearly see, we have Michael Jordan right
here, 14-time All-Star, 6-timeNBA champ.

(02:19):
That's a lot for the ChicagoBulls.
And then, if we go to D Rose,three-time All-Star, you know no
championships, he got Rookie ofthe Year though, mvp youngest,
MVP Cool, got you.
I mean, he did some stuff forChicago, I hear you.

(02:41):
But the rationale for whyapparently Jordan isn't as
revered as D Rose is becausethis Jordan was born Brooklyn,
new York.
D Rose was born Chicago,illinois.
So apparently, because D Rosewas born in Chicago, he matters

(03:05):
more.
Now again, ladies and gentlemen,I'm not trying to make it seem
like I don't understand thenarrative about D Rose and
Jordan.
I do hear it, but the problemis I just might not necessarily
agree with it, is I just mightnot necessarily agree with it.
And the reason why I don'tagree with it is because, yeah,

(03:29):
the hometown thing does factor, but ultimately and I, oh my God
man, I hate I'm doing so muchslander right now to D-Wade, I
mean D-Rose, oh my gosh, butD-Rose didn't bring them a title

(03:49):
, sorry, got MVP, but that'smost valuable player.
Championships go to the team.
So for me personally, I do hearit.
I do hear it, I just might notdisagree.
I just might not agree Now,where you could have some
credence, some like a strongerargument, maybe D Wade and

(04:17):
Haslam.
I was about to make a statementright there and that was going
to get real tricky, anyways.
So if y'all peopleeping right, because again, we talked about
chicago earlier, right, chowtown, right, gotta.
Moving on to another team, let's talk about the heat now.
Haslam d wade.
We know him, we love him, weknow that in the history, d wade

(04:40):
is revered as the better player.
But we're not talking about thehistory we're talking about to
the Miami Heat fan base, likewhich one should be in Miami,
which one should they love andappreciate more?
Should it be D Wade, whobasically helped get them three
titles?
He was the leader in the firstone and then you might be able

(05:01):
to argue a leader in the secondone, leader in all three of them
.
With Haslam you can say he wasjust there, or we could talk
about the loyalty that Haslam isactually given.
Again, ladies and gentlemen, I'dlike to.
Let's start off with D Wade.
Let's start off with D Wade.
So like, oh, this screen is notworking for me.

(05:24):
Here we go.
D Wade.
Ladies and gentlemen, goodcareer right, I'm going to zoom
in.
Good career.
Three-time All-Star, I mean13-time All-Star, three-time NBA
defensive award as well.
Cool, we got a bunch of stufffrom Miami.
Then, when we look at UdonisHaslam, well, all it shows is

(05:50):
three-time champ, part of theall-rookie team, but again, was
on Miami for a long time.
You see, 20 years right here, very valuable to the squad.
Born in Miami D-Wade,ironically, was born in Chicago.
So I mean again, if we're goingto say that D Rose matters more

(06:14):
to the city, then can we saythat Udonis Haslam matters more
than D Wade.
I don't know about that champand I like Haslam too.
I do, I do, but I don't knowthat one might be a tough sell
for me, ladies and gentlemen, but I understand the logic
because maybe Haslam impacts thecommunity of Miami a little bit

(06:37):
more than D Wade, although Iwill say it is called Wade
County out there.
So I mean, I don't know, butit's not like Haslam doesn't
matter, it's just who mattersmore.
You got to put someone oversomebody.
There's levels to it.
Let's go to the WNBABA.
I think this one's pretty coolbecause we can talk about the

(06:58):
Minnesota Lynx.
Ladies and gentlemen, all rightnow, rock with me, flow with me
, follow me.
Maya Moore, like Lindsay Whalen,I don't know.
Now we gotta pull him up.
We gotta pull him up becauseMaya Moore was tough, bro.

(07:20):
Maya Moore was tough, like wesee here.
Oops, sorry, I'm not pulling upthat screen, my bad, here we go
.
Maya Moore, ladies and gentlemen, stud like top notch.
Maya Moore, ladies andgentlemen, stud Like top notch.
Four-time All-Star I meanchampion.

(07:40):
I am messing up these accolades.
Jesus Christ the MVP.
Six-time All-Star, three-timeAll-Star MVP that's absurd.
Four-time WNBA champ, like shewas her Her's absurd Four-time
WNBA champ.
Like she was her, her was she.

(08:02):
There we go, thought I broughta wrong person.
Alright.
Now when we bring up, though, lindsay Whalen Five-time
All-Star, four-time WNBA champ,three-time assist, five-time
All-WNBA it's not like she don'tmatter.
And again, ladies and gentlemen, I mean Hutchinson, minnesota.

(08:23):
Last time I checked she playedfor the Minnesota Lynx.
But when we look at Maya Moore, well, she was born in Jefferson
City, missouri.
But again, by the logic thatwe've given, lindsay Whalen is
going to matter more to theMinnesota Lynx than Maya Moore.

(08:44):
And I can't quite say that Now,yeah, lindsay played more years
than Maya did like, across theboard, I think, actually,
because six seasons, what?
No, nine seasons from Minnesotato one, two, three, four, five,
six, seven, eight years fromMinnesota, I hear it, but the

(09:07):
production that Maya gaveoutweighs Lindsey's, like
Lindsey had to give similarproduction.
So again, I don't see it beingthe same, ladies and gentlemen.
And to be clear, and to be clear, I'm not trying to knock these
ladies at all.
Both of them wonderful hoopersin the game of basketball.
It's just it's levels to it.

(09:28):
It's levels to it, good hoopers.
Though Minnesota did awonderful job at selecting
players.
I've talked about that, but mymore's gotta be the better one.
How about the chicago sky?
Yes, sir, you had to save itfor the lights.
You know I'm saying, but if youpeep too, though, you might

(09:48):
peep a young courtneyvandersloot.
Well, that's not who we'regoing to talk about, because one
of the most revered players inSky history could be a Sylvia
Fowles.
You want to pick another player, like maybe, elena Del Dono?
Okay, cool, I heard that too,but I did choose Sylvia Fowles

(10:08):
just because we pair her wellwith Candice Parker.
Ladies and gentlemen, and keepin mind, these players are
actually bucket getters, they'rehoopers, they're rivals.
So pardon me if I wanted to geta little biased on this pick.
But, ladies and gentlemen, whenwe pick these oh my gosh, this

(10:32):
screen is annoying there we gowhen we do this right here,
y'all see Candace Parker.
You know what I'm saying.
That's my favorite player ofall time.
She born St Louis Missouri, that's cool, but she got
apparent ties to Chicago, likeshe got family in Chicago.

(10:57):
So now, yeah, not quite born inChicago, but still you have
ties to Chicago.
And we see what she was two-timeMVP, seven-time All-Star
All-Star MVP, three-time WNBAchamp.
She brought a championship toChicago.
Sky Should be valuable, right.
But on the flip side though wegot to talk about it Sylvia

(11:17):
Fowles Now she's a two-timechamp, right, did not bring one
to Chicago, but she holds a lotof the records for the Chicago
Sky.
So when I'm looking at it, whoreally matters more?
Now, this one's an interestingconversation.
I definitely want to get y'allopinion on this one Because,

(11:40):
again, we got two seasons forthe Chicago Sky and we got
actually a gang of seasons forthe Chicago Sky for Sylvia Fowl,
see two seasons for CandiceParker, but she got a
championship.
Multiple seasons for SylviaFowl, no championships, but a
lot of accolades, a lot ofawards for the Chicago Sky.

(12:01):
That's doing something for theChicago Sky.
So I don't know actually, because biasly I do say Chicago
might want to rock with CP alittle more than Sylvia Fowles,
but I do hear it from alongevity standpoint too, like
she holds multiple franchiserecords.

(12:21):
You can't slight that.
So, again, production plusorigin does matter.
Nowace parker's championshipallowed this conversation to
occur, but keep in mind, though,if she ain't win that
championship, we not having thisdiscussion at all, because it
would have only been two seasons, or even three, like the

(12:43):
production did not meet sylviafowles's production until you
brought in that championship, and she was literally the key
called the reason why they didthat.
So again, ladies and gentlemen,I don't know if uh, yeah, I
don't know if that's gonna be.
I don't know if y'all need tobe worried about that.

(13:06):
You know, I'm saying like thisis a good one matter of fact.
How about this?
How about this one?
I'm curious what y'all thinkabout this, because these
players, these are some notableplayers that we can even talk
about from a player importantstandpoint.
Right like braun, he could becalled the most, the most
notable athlete in clevelandbecause he was born in cleveland
brought a championship toCleveland.

(13:27):
But well, championship.
But now the 3-1 comeback, Idon't like, because I hate how
they treated.
Yes, another story for anotherday.
But buddy to to his lefttechnically I'll write his left
is Steph.
Well, steph was born inCleveland or Ohio, somewhere,

(13:49):
they talk about that.
So if that's the case, thendamn, he's won.
He's gone through Cleveland towin championships.
Can't he be called the mostimportant athlete?
Kept y'all somewhat relevanttoo, right?
How about Cole?
The last time I checked I swearhe was born in Philly.
I'm sure Philly would haveloved to have him.

(14:11):
He's not important like that inPhilly, though.
How about JT Born in St Louis?
Last time I checked, not Boston, but I promise you though he'll
be revered in Boston Again.
Ladies and gentlemen, it's theproduction value that everybody
that I've talked about won achampionship where they were

(14:32):
Broad Cavs championship, whetheryou want to.
He got a title for that season, steph.
He got a title for the Cavs.
He got a title playing againstthe Cavs Somewhat relevant.
Kobe.
We beat Philly, I guess.
So I mean you know that counts,I guess, playing against the
Cavs Somewhat relevant.
Kobe.
We beat Philly, I guess.
So I mean you know that counts,I guess Cool.

(14:53):
Jason Tatum, I don't Like.
You get a championship becauseof your production.
You get the Damn.
You get revered because of thechampionship.
The production, that's whatmatters.
The origin story it's nice,it's a nice booster, but I don't
think it really matters with somuch Kobe Jersey not going to

(15:14):
get hung up in the 76ers stadium.
It's not, it's not.
And I don't know if he would bethe highest 76er of all time
with just one title.
I mean could have Possibly, very possible actually, because
I forget they don't really.
Yeah, not yet.
But, like I said, production, origin, they do matter.

(15:38):
Production matters over origin, though, so we gave y'all a
couple of examples.
But remember though, this wholething started because,
apparently, d Rose matters moreto Chicago than Jordan does.
But, ladies and gentlemen, Imean hell, I'm curious what
y'all think.
Y'all heard me talk about italready.

(15:58):
The player matter formula isproduction plus origin story of
the athlete.
Production matters more.
Production weighs heavier, though, but for people who are
living in these areas, I do wantto hear your takes.
So definitely, let me know whatyou all think.
But, ladies and gentlemen, boysand girls, that does conclude
the end of the episode.

(16:19):
