Speaker 1 (00:10):
It's a Hammer Nigel show. My name is Nigel, that's
Jason Hammer. It's not every day we get to talk
to a rock icon. Don Felder coming to Ruoff Music
Center in Noblesville, August fifteenth, former guitarist for the Eagles,
wrote the music for the biggest number one smash hit Hotel, California,

(00:31):
and now he's on tour, the Brotherhood of Rock Tour
with Styx and Kevin Crone and my man, Don Fingers Felder.
How are you.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
I'm doing great. I gotta tell you, this is probably
one of the best combinations of music. It's four hours
of hit, just hit after hit after hit after hit
after hit from my catalog of some of the Eagles songs. Yeah,
a couple of solo things like a heavy metal and
then Kevin Cronin comes out, mister Rio himself, it wrote,

(01:00):
sang all the big hits, and then the stitch comes
out and just it's four hours of just amazingly great music.
We have a forty foot wide by twenty foot hide
four K digital screen behind us. It's got videos running
and it's running and all sorts of stuff going on.
So it's really an amazing show. It's just so much fun.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
How do you guys decide who comes out first. I'm
the kind of guy I'm kind of like you know,
I'll go first. Then I'm done working for the night.
Or are you guys working all night? Do you guys
ever get out on stage and play together?

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Well, yeah, we do that. Sometimes. There's a lot of
special trees that happen. Just as one off. Somebody will go, hey,
I'm gonna come out and sit in and play guitar
with you on hotel Like Tommy Shaw. We've toured together
on and off for since twenty six, you know, two
thousand and six, and so we know each other. There's

(01:59):
no DV debo, ego, hiss, he fits, none of that.
You never know what might happen. Somebody might just walk
out in the middle of one of my songs just
starts singing harmony with me or something. Anyway, it's a
great group of people. It's a wonderful show. And I
hope you come backstage and say hello on August fifteenth

(02:19):
and so I can shake your hand and thank you
for taking the time to do this. Now, I have
one other thing I want to talk about as part
of this story. I'm doing this promotion for the Rock
and Roll Retreat Sweepstakes. It's an amazing package of the
things you can win, and the hundred percent of every
penny that comes in goes to Saint Jude Children's Research.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Oh charity. I love charity.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Yeah, me too, I've been supporting it for well over
ten years now. Anyways, the package that you can win
is you get a round trip airpayer for two for
any place in the continental United States to go to Nashville, Tennessee.
In Nashville, you get three nights at the Broadway Suite
at the Western Nashville Hotel. That might be the biggest

(03:08):
suite I've ever stayed in. You need a road map
to find your way around in this suite or maybe
use ways or something to find the bathroom, you know.
So anyway, it's a beautiful suite. You win a white
double nut twelve seventy five, just like you see me
playing like yeah, yep. You get a private tour with

(03:32):
me of the Gibson Garage, which is less than a
half block walk from the Western Hotel. Now that includes
an amazing downstairs hidden Gibson vault that contains all of
the original historic Gibson guitars, the very first left Paul,
the very first Gibson acoustics, the very first explorer, all

(03:55):
all those things there. Not only you're not allowed to
go down there unless you go down with some like me,
but you get to take them out and hold them
and play them if you're a guitar player or a musician.
And then the next day you get to be my
personal guest at a showcase where I'll be speaking and
performing at the Gibson Garage. Not only that it keeps going.

(04:17):
You know, one on one guitar lesson from me at
the Gibson Garage incredible. And you know I've taught a
couple of people in the past. One of them went
on to be a pretty famous musician, a guy named
Tom Teddy. So who knows. If the quester from me,
you can have a huge career.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
You know, how do people get in on this.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Well, I'm going to tell you in just a minute.
You also get tickets to the Musicians Hall of Fame
and Mago where I've been inducted, and you'll see my
display there. When you go to Donfelder dot com slash
contest Don Tellder dot com slash contest. When you get there.
That's how you can enter. You can give whatever you want.

(05:01):
For every fifty dollars that you contribute, you get a ticket.
You put in one hundred dollars, you get two tickets.
You put in two hundred dollars, you get four tickets.
So the more you give to Saint Jews, the higher
and better your chances are to win this amazing package.
Don Telder dot com slash contest.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
That's awesome, awesome, and we're going to reset that and
put that out on our social media here in just
a moment. We're speaking with Don Felder coming to Ruolf
August fifteenth. The Brotherhood of rock Tour, now, Don, the
brotherhood of this angle here. How has that been on
the road, Because you're with some pretty big personalities, some
big stars of their own. This isn't anything new with

(05:41):
you being with the Eagles for so long. Like when
you guys are out on the road and there's ever
a disagreement or whatever, how do you make sure that
doesn't affect what you guys are doing out on the stage.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Well, first of all, everybody is there and it's been
in this business. We've toured together on and off. Just
two thousand and six. We all know each other. We
know all the guitar techs, the front of house mixers,
the lighting directors, the truck drivers, the bus driver. It's
a big family, so there's no disagreements, there's no arguments,
there's none of that stuff that doesn't exist. We're all

(06:17):
having so much fun playing so much great music for
so many great crowds that there's no reason to be
upset about.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Getting It's just a hit machine, a hit four hours
of nothing but hits. And I do want to mention
here in just a minute, I want to talk about
your album that you have out. One question I have
though you've been through so many eras of rock and
roll in this industry, the seventies, eighties, nineties, what's been
your favorite era? I could be now, well.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
I think every error that started back in when I
first started playing guitar was in Gainesville, and unbeknownst to me,
I was playing with people like Stephen Stills. When we
were fourteen years old. We had a band called the
Cotton Nettles together. But you don't know anything about the
future or who you're working with. Tom Petty, Bernie Lenton,

(07:12):
myself and Steven Stills all went to the Gamesville High
School at the same time.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
Unbelievable. I had no idea that.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
We were all we were all there playing, But you
don't have any idea that. First of all, there was
no Rock and Roll Hall of Fame back then. There
was no Grammys being awarded for anything. That We weren't
doing it for any of the accolades or any of
the money. We just love playing music, and that's exactly

(07:38):
what this show is that you're going to see on
August fifteenth. We all love playing music and go out
and just kick it hard. So it's a lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
We only got a couple of minutes left here with
Don Felder, former lead guitarist or the Eagles out onto
the Brotherhood of Rock tour coming August fifteenth with Styx
and Kevin Cronin. And you've got a new album out too, right,
I do, yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Zut called the Vault. I played one new song in
the live show, which you will hear August fifteenth. I
play a song called Hollywood Victim. And people who listen
to my album and go man, some of these songs
sound like Eagle songs, Well they were. I was writing
for the Eagles. I was writing for movies that I
was doing songs for I thinks were all just song ideas.

(08:24):
Like for Hotel California, I wrote I think fifteen or
sixteen song ideas and two of them one became Hotel
California and one became Victim of Love. So there's fourteen
other son ideas just for that one album that I rediscovered.
I went mag God, these are good sound and trent,
so I went in and fixed them, finished them, redid

(08:45):
them from the ground up with some of the best
musicians I've ever met. Played with my life, a guy
named Nathan Ease who plays with Clapton, Matt Dissonett, who
plays with Elton John, who else the Father, Oh, Greg
brist Dissonette, just on and on and on. Todd Todd
from Styx played drums on a track. Greg filling Games

(09:08):
played keyboard from Claps his band. Just a couple of
guys from Toto played on me. So they took these
ideas and all of a sudden we just breathed new,
beautiful energy and life into him. It's a really fun album.
I'm very proud of.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
Lots of irons in the fire here Don. The new
album is called The Vault fifty years of music. We
will post the information for your charity at Don Felder
dot com your charity contest, and then, of course the
brotherhood of rock Tour was Styx, Kevin Cronin and Icon.
Don Felder coming to Ruolf Noblesville, August fifteenth. It has

(09:45):
been an honor talking to you, mister Felder. Thank you,
and hope you enjoy Indy here next week. Thank you.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
I can't wait to see you guys.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
How awesome was that?

Speaker 2 (09:55):
Wow?

Speaker 3 (09:56):
Rock Royalty right there?

Speaker 1 (09:57):
Nice on our casual.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
You know, when I was writing songs for Hotel California,
one of the greatest albums of all time,
