Speaker 1 (00:02):
Listening to the Hammer and Nichel Show. My name is
Jason Hammer. Big Knige is in the can. He'll be
here in just a moment. But joining us in studio
from the WIBC newsroom, John Att Cru They're not doing
They're saying, Cru, how are you?
Speaker 2 (00:22):
I'm doing fantastic.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Before we get into what's going to basically be a
debate between myself and you, and so now.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
It's a debate. It is, oh, it is Okay, this.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Whole Bad Bunny halftime show discussion.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
All right, I will debate you on it.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
But you are one of the members of our amazing,
award winning newsroom. What are some of the stories we
should be keeping an eye on today?
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Gosh, Well, obviously, the whole shutdown is happening, and obviously
you guys know that, and so we've been getting lots
of updates between both sides blaming each other.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
So that's been kind of fun.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
I did do a story earlier today about Jefferson Shreeve.
He's actually donate the part of his salary during the
shutdown to the Boys and Girls Club in Franklin.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Well, that's something, okay.
Speaker 4 (01:07):
I thought that was try to grab her guns during
the mayoral race. But hey, at least he's given back
to the Boys and Girls Club.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Okay, exactly, all right, The new Indie homicide report just
came out since it's October first, So we've had one
hundred and twenty three homicides so far, but fifty six
have been cleared. So apparently that is a forty five percent.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
What do you mean by that there's rate race self defense?
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Well, no, it's saying that so far for the year,
we've had one hundred and twenty three homicides, but fifty
six have been essentially prosecuted, arrested, they've found out like
who don't Okay, I think so, then the rate now
because of that?
Speaker 2 (01:44):
Is that fair?
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Because I know at the beginning of the year you
had the Mayor's office really trying to push this thing
about not reporting self defense homicide and an attempt to
keep the numbers down, which okay, listen, I'm all for
self defense homicides, you know me, but we've all reported
the numbers that way. To be consistent, you have to
keep doing the same thing.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Right, absolutely. I know Ryan Hedrick did a story about
it earlier.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
He said when something that he found was a lot
of it is just dealing with people just don't know
how to not have an argument that doesn't involve killing
somebody else, and.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
So been a problem.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
Let me just say, and I know that's a serious
subject for you. And Ryan Hendrick, both on social media,
whether it be TikTok or the Reels or Instagram, have
been doing a tremendous job in covering, thank you, some
of the some of the more serious and hard hitting
stories here in this city. It's been incredible, real asset
to this station and even our show in the afternoon.
(02:40):
We like having you on.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
You guys have been fantastic and the video that you
guys do to put sometimes faces with the audio that
we hear top notch. So let me tell you why
you're wrong about Bad Bunny being the best.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
I know.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
No, see you and I defer on some things.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
You're you already assuming something that I haven't even stated.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Okay, so let's back up that though.
Speaker 4 (03:03):
Oh okay, he's already telling you how it is.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
Now, tell me if I'm wrong, tell me if I
looked at the situation incorrectly. We talked about Bad Bunny
being announced as the halftime show a couple days ago. Yes,
and again, Please tell me if I'm overstating this. You
texted me fifty seven times in a row and said
that's not the case. You're racist.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
I can't stand you.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
You don't understand what's going on here. Do I have
that wrong?
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (03:30):
You have that wrong? What are you talking about? All right?
Speaker 1 (03:33):
Tell me why it's a good show?
Speaker 2 (03:35):
So well?
Speaker 3 (03:36):
The whole thing, the reason why I just even texted
you to begin with, is because I'm a conservative.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
I'm a Latina. And so here we are.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
A few weeks after all of us, you know, basically
got PTSD over somebody being assassinated in front of our
very eyes, all over social media and in the newsroom. Right,
so we come from this side on the right, or
people who are more conservative, wanting to talk about see
what this other side is doing and doing all of that.
Right here we go, Something else comes into the news,
(04:05):
and what do we do? Then I get on social
media as a person who's more conservative than in Latina,
and then I see basically the people that are supposed
to be the voice of reason right now saying the
complete opposite.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
So I'm like, okay, did everything just go out the door?
Right now? A couple of weeks ago. Okay, that was
my problem. So now the people that I align with most.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Of the most of the time, I always like to say,
like I I'd rather not to consider myself a Republican or
a democratic independent, like I follow Jesus because that's.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Why I alignswer.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Good answer, But now you're turning me off.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
I see some of those things, and so it's just
a lot of ignorant compliments.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Are not compliments comp that I see that I don't like.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
I'm coming from a marketing perspective, not a conservative perspective,
but I'm thinking, this is an American football, It's an
American sport. We're pretty much one of the only countries
in the world that play tackle football, like our version
of football. Bad Bud his songs and you would know
more than I don't have a lot of English to it.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
They don't.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Why would you book a guy that doesn't speak a
whole lot of English and his songs to an American
football show. It would be like in the World Cup
if Brazil was hosting and we had Morgan Wallen doing
a halftime show.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
That wouldn't make sense there.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
And I don't think this makes sense here.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Yeah, I come I see it.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Yeah, when it was first announced, I was like, wait,
what like that? That's that's definitely an interesting move, especially
for somebody who only sings in Spanish and raps in
Spanish and nobody's really going to understand what he's saying.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
I do know, from a.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Worldwide perspective, he is a worldwide audience, and I do
know the NFL is trying to capture that a little
bit more, and so I think they're banking on that
so that they can make a bigger presence, and so
I think that's their reasoning behind it. Also, obviously, I
think they're just like, Okay, you know somebody else is
Obviously I need him booking the talent. And I do
know he wasn't the first pick.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
And we think it's jay Z because he's got good
ties with the NFL front office and Roger Goodell's always
worked with him. And there are all these theories that
they offered it to Taylor Swift and she said no
and they couldn't come up with some sort of deals.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Yes, I heard that too, and.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
It feels like Bad Bunny and jay Z might have
a little bit more of a relationship. Yeah, but I
just didn't think it was a good match for this sport.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
No, I one hundred percent like when I saw it,
I was like, I was really surprised because I think, too,
this is the NFL, you know, you do want It's
so hard to cater to every single person.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
It is because I'm forty nine years old and I
had never heard of bad Bunny until they made the announcements.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Yeah, and I thought it was to cash me outside ship.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
What is a bad Bunny, Liz what I kept seeing?
Speaker 3 (06:47):
And I was like, oh, yeah, yeah, I need to
educate some people around here.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
But it's fine.
Speaker 4 (06:50):
I need an edumacation, edumacation, right.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
I just did not like like the already.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
I saw the racial comments going up and conversations about
ice and immigrants, and I'm like, oh.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
My gosh, there were US citizens. What are you talking about?
Speaker 1 (07:02):
Okay, now hold on on the ice thing, because your
boy here, he said he didn't want to perform in
the UK and the continental United States current yep, because
he was concerned about eyes. And he's not somebody that
can have his values easily bought unless it's halftime at
the Super Bowl and he throws all those values right
out the window.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
Joe yeah, yeah, totally.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
I did see what he was talking about. I know
he said more so when it came to having the
concerts and touring the US. Obviously you have different types
of seats where you can purchase. Not so many people
can go to the Super Bowl and afford what like
a twelve thousand dollars ticket, right, So obviously it's a
little bit more of a different atmosphere, and I think
that's what he was thinking about. I mean, I do
(07:41):
have to admit if I was an artist that catered
mainly to the Latino population and all of this was
going on right now, I think I would feel some
sort of responsibility as as an artist.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
I'm not gonna I'm not gonna lie. What do you
mean by that?
Speaker 3 (07:56):
To do what?
Speaker 1 (07:56):
Say something?
Speaker 2 (07:57):
Do something?
Speaker 3 (07:58):
Say like I with the climate that's happening right now,
with ice and immigrants and all that happening within the
United States, if I decided I was going to continue
and do my tour because mainly all of my audience
was Latino and if something were to happen, I would
feel responsible, right.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
But also I think there is somewhat maybe humor is
the right word. I don't know if you're going to
be the hot take guy and say no, no, I'm
not coming to the continental United States because of Ice,
and you say you're going to do the super Bowl.
I think it would be irony, at the very least
somewhat comical if I shows up at the super Bowl
and says that I.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
Feel like I saw something. I can't remember what it was.
I was in between newscasting today and I thought I
saw something to the effect that it was made known
that Ice was going to be at the super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
I mean, I'm sure Ice away.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
It doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
The super Bowl is the most secure thing in the world. Yeah,
Ice is going to be there. The FBI is going to.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
Be there, Snipers are going to be there there.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
I mean they were probably scheduled there anyway you could
book Clay Achin at halftime, and Ice was probably going
to be part of the security team that's going to
be there.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
Okay, Yeah, So I mean he decided just to take
his chance on this one event that he's going to
have and which is a super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
Doesn't make more controlled little maybe I would say a
little bit.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Yeah, you stated one thing and then all of a sudden,
you're changing your mind. I mean, who's to say you're
not allowed to change your mind, but.
Speaker 4 (09:21):
In absolutely allowed to change your mind.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Yeah you can, but also kind of be a little
bit more authentic about it, like, look, you know, yes,
this is the way I was feeling when I started
this tour. Now that I've done my entire residency in
Puerto Rico and I'm trying to figure out what my
next steps are. Maybe I should come back to the US,
and maybe things have done things a little bit differently,
and now I feel like I can come back and
do that.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Here, Tyler on the YouTube chat Hammer, your YouTube camera
looks way better now for some reason.
Speaker 4 (09:51):
Do you have so do you have a daily podcast
or weekly thing that you do too.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
It's called Behind the Filter. It's a weekly podcast.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
It comes out every Thursday, and so I like to
call it it's a no niche podcast. So we talk
about everything. I have my bestan we do like a
girl Talk edition. I have more of an interview style
segment where I talk to people here throughout the throughout
the Indianapolis area and the state of Indiana. And then
I do like more of my newsy where I talk
about a lot of the news that you really don't
(10:19):
tend to get over like a twenty four hour news cycle,
or I do the opposite, where it's like things are
just popping on social media and I have to try
to move.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
We want to come in, we want to come up,
yes right, yes.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
Yes, yes, we have to pay it back because for
those who don't remember, when John Nette came in to
do Celebrity beer Bomb, it was one of the great
in studio visits of all time. She's talking about being
underage teenager getting loose in Tijuana, was drinking tequila, doing
grown up stuff.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
I saw it on YouTube, but I missed it in person.
That's one of my life's great rewards.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
It Yeah, I've lived a fun life. You have. Where
can we follow your work everywhere?
Speaker 3 (11:01):
I'm just known as just underscore at John at Cruz,
the John at Cruz, so you can follow me everywhere there.
So on Facebook it's John at Cruz, Instagram, the John
att Cruz X, the John at Cruse.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
Will Nigel and I enjoy the halftime show, I would think.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
Let me let me just.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
Tell you cannot listen to like any type of Spanish
music and whether it's like South submitting or reggaeton and
not just want to move your hips a little bit.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
You don't want Nigel to move is you don't. Nobody
wants that. Nobody wants that.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
Be doing like the salsa with Lindsay Den in the base.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
I think I think he's going, you know, now that
this has been a decision, I think it's going to
They're they're probably going to use a lot of different
other elements in it so.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
That other people can feel I.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Think represented right, and it's not only just bad Bunny,
but it's gonna represent other things.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
And just so you know, if it's not Foo Fighters
every year, Nigel's gonna bitch and moan anyway.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
Okay, seeing I would complain, If if I would complain,
I'd be like, who's Foo Fighters?
Speaker 4 (12:00):
Me?
Speaker 1 (12:01):
John?
Speaker 2 (12:01):
Thank you?
Speaker 1 (12:02):
The Hammer and Nigel Show.
