Is the Cardinals defense tougher than we might think? They play a similar scheme as the Cowboys, and they don’t have any big stars, but they’ve been in every game they’ve played. So what’s the difference? Is Arizona just more consistent and in sync? And because of that, what does the Dallas offense have to do? Be darn near perfect, it seems.

Save a little bit for hanging with the boy.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
Just look that Jesse's uh, Jesse's uh on his way.
He'll be here soon.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
But when you hollo, he said, let's take him to
get it.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
He said one hundred and ten years. I think that's
a type of I think he probably meant one ten
so quick story before we get into football, where you know,
get coming in the coming in down the hall. He's
coming from the cafeteria. Chris coming from the cafeteria. We
all converge at the right there by the security desk,

(03:02):
coming down the same hall, and here comes up. All
of us have desserts in our hands, and Steven's walking
down the hall. Stephen Jones and about what fifteen.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Yeah, pow power guy, ye.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Dressed up in nice suits. Steven's walking down the hall
and Nate hands me just played the cookies and goes
here here take this, Stephen, who are these distinguished joke?
Stephen goes, this is Nate Newton. He's on the wall. Yeah,
and then Nate's just a commenting everybody and complimenting them.

(03:38):
And Nate's Nate.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
You would have been proud of it, would have been
proud of me.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
They does how to play the game.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Look at it. They call my name, everybody else call me.
I gotta go to work the wall.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
He's on the wall over there has a couple of
Pro Bowls.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
He said something like that.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
That was Funny on the Wall pros. Yeah, no big deal.
So yeah, mister Jones, I got three super Bowl rings
for you too, Buddy, we get to hang out with him.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Yeah, we get to hang out bro and the awesome.

Speaker 6 (04:12):
So but you said some Chris, all right, I said,
I didn't think you're going to bring up the three
super bowls you got for Fingers, Funny and too Jesse.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
You get here because what I have? I felt so
bad last week doing all of that studying. I don't
like being right because that hurt me in the Cowboys
we got beat. I was like, man, I did all
that studying to tell everybody this. I just did minimal
study this week. So what I got to say gonna
be real quick. So I'm a wait on jests because

(04:48):
I do not want to be beat two weeks in
a row.

Speaker 5 (04:50):
But depressing film.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
No, this this I'm not gonna start. I'm not gonna start. Hey,
let's go to your your your question.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
We'll start with Kurt's first one. Yeah, Shoddy again said
in his press conference today, did he did he end
like right before we went on the air, Cris, because
I was listening to it in the.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
Car before I got it. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
So he again said there's gonna be some changes, and
he was talking about, you know, I think we all
assume it's on the defensive side of the ball.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
And yes, he was talking about his press.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
Conference how ibra Flus has been really good about it
because as an assistant coach, you don't ever want the
coach in your meetings. He said he used to take
offense to it when you know Pete Carroll would sit
in his meetings or Rex or whoever. He's like, why
are you in here? And he said eber Flus has
been really good about him sitting in and listening. But
I think all these changes we're thinking about are going

(05:46):
to be on the defensive side of the ball. Do
they need to change stuff on the offense?

Speaker 1 (05:51):
I heard something that was really important that Brian, Brian
and I got. Yes. He said that our center was
ready to go, and they, you know, they just wanted
to ride with Hoffman and I just did not understand that.

(06:13):
I do understand if you if they're equal, but I
think a lot of people think that this kid is
better than Hoffman. So and then I even heard one
of their guys on Derek Show say that, you know,

(06:34):
his limited play as an offensive player. He always wanted
the better guy to forsake the bund in that offensive lineman.
And I'm with him on that. You know, a lot
of times you want to go because you got a
rhythm going, you want to keep it going. You got
unity within the offensive line. But if you're telling me

(06:58):
that this guy is a step by better in all
phases of his game, I would prefer the better guy
in there because it makes the guys that are not
as good even greater. You know, we never heard a
lot about steal negatively into Zack Martin left. When Zack

(07:18):
Martin left, he got blew up. That's because Zach Martin
was Zack Martin. So I just believe that whatever's going
on there that was not good for me to hear.

Speaker 5 (07:34):
You think BB's the better.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
I don't know, because this is one of the games
that I had to be able to judge. See, I
knew who number DJ Jones. I'll never forget him, number
ninety three for Denver, number the kid other kids, number
ninety six. I don't know how to pronounce his name.
I don't want to mess it up because I got
great respect for what he does. When I see guys

(07:59):
like that that can brain heat to remember when I
said when Morsi first got here, and I told you
two guys specific I say, if he doesn't do anything
but get off the rock as fast as he can
and put his hands in the middle of the center,
he would change the complex of this defense. When number

(08:20):
ninety three, that's all he does. Now, he even because
he came from a different team, he now wants you
learn to dominate at being just that one aspect of
the game. Now he's starting to make plays. You get
what I'm saying, because it's normal for you just to

(08:42):
take off and kill the center, but now you're starting
to read your keys and you're starting to make plays
that right there, if you can take the middle of
someone's offense or the middle of someone's defense and gash
it and beat it up and just physically whoop it, you,
now everything's opens up for you. And that is what

(09:03):
Denver did to us. They had them literally scared to
run the ball up up inside. And so but for
me to hear that, Cooper Bebe was ready. He's a
young guy. We're trying to give him all the reps
he can get because this thing, like when we draft guys,

(09:23):
this year. And I know I'm jumping the head, but
I'm just killing time for Jess. When we draft guys
this year, that's say we hold on to these number
one picks from OTA's from when they get off the plane, whoever,
go and meet them at the plane and shake their
hands and give them their jersey, and we have a

(09:45):
meeting with them. You know how the press come, oh,
this is our number one pick old this year we
got we got a double take, we got two number
one picks. If it goes that way. Now, the first
thing they should be saying is whether whatever position it is,
coach they starting, they're starting, because in this world of

(10:09):
limited reps, no preseason, you have to get these kids
every mental and physical rep that you can. And that's
why I kind of shook me a little bit. BB's
what two years in now he needs every rep he
can get.

Speaker 5 (10:27):
Where they worried that because he got such a good
defense that he want to throw him to that fire.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
If that's the problem, we shouldn't have drafted him.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
That.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
I'm serious. If that is the problem, Uh, now, quarterbacks,
that that's the only exception I make with any any position,
y'all hear me say, n a quarterback, I'll make an exception,
you know, But any other position now, I'm not making
no exceptions. If you drafted him, if you started him,

(10:58):
if he's better then Hoffman, why is he not playing
unless and y'all didn't did They did not state this
unless he was not physically ready to come back. But
they did not state that. I did not see anywhere
where they didn't say he was physically ready to come back.

Speaker 5 (11:17):
That's something you know, you talked about. You know, Ronald
Jones was a hit of Booker at the start of
camp guiding last year. Was on the behind you know
that kind of thing.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
So that's I don't like, don't I don't. I don't
like that because when you draft the guy, let okay,
if you drafted outside linebacker or and when we had
the other guy here that say at Green Bay, okay, bro,
you got to go on the other side, or you
got to be on the bench. This is elite you're

(11:47):
talking about. If you happen to have because of the
numbers failed and you get a guy first round, but
you got elite sitting there. No, sir, no, I ain't
gonna take elit off the field for you know, for
a guy, I'm going to try to get ready to
play and learn the NFL. But if you don't have
elite and you drafted this guy and he's already the starter,

(12:10):
why is he not the start? Unless he was something
was still physically wrong, you know, I mean, what do
you two guys think?

Speaker 5 (12:19):
I mean, well, I mean unless they you know, Hoppin
brings this real fiery, in your face talking trash attitude,
unless they feel like that's something they really really need.
I agree. I mean, Cooper Beebie seems to be. If
he's that guy, I mean he's he was the starter
right beginning of the year, and it seems like he

(12:41):
had a good, solid rookie season. I don't know why
you wouldn't keep building on that.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
I mean, what are your taking?

Speaker 3 (12:47):
I mean I would, I would play him because he
hasn't had has he had any reps with the with
the rest of the group they have in there.

Speaker 1 (12:56):
They started a couple of a couple of games. I
just leave you gotta build some type of rhythm and
a couple of games and get you out. Yeah, thank you, and.

Speaker 3 (13:10):
And and for us not to.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
And maybe coach knows something. I'm trying to get coach
Shannhaimer all the love in the world, But when you
have a Javonte Williams, and I hope I'm pronouncing his
name right, we call him the juggernaut on the on
the pre and post he ain't show. We call him
the juggernaut. Why isn't he touching the ball a minimum
of twenty five times? I'm talking about running. I ain't

(13:35):
talking about no pass me throwing some passes. That's even
more touches. But why has it? Why isn't this guy
touching the ball twenty five or more times a game? Running?

Speaker 5 (13:46):
I don't think he's done that once.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
You know, you know, is he not built like that?
Is he?

Speaker 7 (13:53):
You know?

Speaker 1 (13:53):
I gotta get somebody to ask coach that question.

Speaker 5 (13:56):
You had twenty rushing attempts against Green Bay overtime.

Speaker 1 (13:59):
And I think I'm a stating here, right, Yeah.

Speaker 5 (14:02):
He's he's uh. I want to say he's only had
he hasn't had twenty five total touches at all. I
think it's high as twenty four this year or.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
So, william number nine, could I read it? William's the
key question mark Cowboys are three and one when he
has rush for one hundred Rush has one hundred yards
from scrimmage, not Rush, but when he's had one hundred
yards from scrimmage, and and four when he doesn't also
two oh and one when he has twenty plus touches.

(14:35):
I'm not one of them guys that do the numbers
and all of this right here, but I can see
with my eyes that you know, and I understand developing blue.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
I understand that.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
But that's what preseason for, you know, preseason to be
here soon enough. Just put him in there. You know,
you get what I'm saying. If we blow somebody out,
you know, when we getting blowed out, you see they
put the other kid in that. What's the backup quarterback Helton? Yeah,
with four minutes, Leo, we could have let him touch

(15:07):
the ball thirty times. Who cares the game over?

Speaker 5 (15:10):
So's everything? Fifteen and a half carries a game in
two point seven oh no, three receptions a game, you know,
so under twenty touches overall.

Speaker 1 (15:23):
I just you know, he seemed to be valuable. He
seems to help your offensive line, which is your your
keeps the pass rush at Bay. Like you know, everybody
laughed at Jake Ferguson every week. I'm boy, you love
from Jake Ferguson fifty one catches five yards of average. Yes,

(15:46):
he's a part of the run game, he's a part
of the pass game. And we should have had some
plays that came off of those zero routes that he
run down the line of scrimmage after he's helped the
tackles block then he goes down. Yeah, Denver said, nah,
we ain't gonna let you get that this week. So
we should have had other options coming off of that, right,

(16:07):
I mean, I mean, I'm not saying nothing that coach
shottenhaum of them don't understand. And then they you know,
if we see where you Okay.

Speaker 4 (16:15):
You got us, we get us one time, you get
us twice, but.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
You can't keep giving me three four time. Now, come on, now,
we got to have something off of this.

Speaker 5 (16:23):
I mean, he's running down the line, like you said,
and they've got it sniffed out.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
Well, you kind of jammed up because you are taking
away half of the field. You rolling out or coming
out to one side, so you're just working about one
third of the field. You gotta have something kind of
leaking back slow, you know, because everybody's rolling over and
it is easier for you to stay with your man
because that's just our play. But I'm just banking that

(16:54):
they have something a throw back across the field or
something that makes them. You know, we got the players offensively,
We have the horses offensively that if you can get
that ball back across the field, they gonna make something happen.

Speaker 5 (17:10):
You know.

Speaker 3 (17:11):

Speaker 3 (19:31):
Welcome back to the second segment. Hanging On with the
Boys brought to each and every show by blockchain dot Com.
Thank you Blockchain dot Com. Well to the show, Jesse,
you guys miss yet Nate has because he made it
clear right up front that he ain't watched no film
this week.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
I watched Phil It's just nothing.

Speaker 3 (19:48):
He said. It depressed him last week that he was
right because he watched so much film that he that
he knew what was coming. So he watched that much
this week. So we were talking about before you got here,
he heard from broad Us that BB was ready to
go this week, good and well last week last week,
and they didn't. They didn't play him. They decided to

(20:09):
go with Hoffman that he could have gone last week.
We were talking about, you know, trying to get and
shot his head and wonder why that was.

Speaker 4 (20:16):
Probably you think that I guess that front that's probably
best because no, no, no, you haven't been in a
room full of people and you say something and then
the one dude laugh and not a person that you're
talking about. He mad because he all I was trying

(20:38):
to if he would Yeah, but no, it was probably
best because you have to understand, like, just because a
person is medically cleared to go, you don't always want
to just throw him out there to the wolf. We've
seen what that looked like, and another player. We we

(21:01):
hope that that's not what it looks like when two
more players come back later on in the year. So
I think for this one was kind of like Shotty
looked at that front and go, hi, angle spraying, You've
been out for four weeks, five weeks, whatever it was,
and I ain't gonna do you like that. I'm not
gonna throw you out to those wolves. And all of

(21:22):
a sudden, now your your confidence is rattles.

Speaker 5 (21:26):
Is that his call or the off lord?

Speaker 1 (21:29):
Oh my god.

Speaker 4 (21:30):
I think it might be a combination of both, because
you always hear the term of sometimes you have to
put the players need to you know, you need to
protect them yourself from the players, to protect themselves from themselves,
because they always want to go, go, go, go, go,
go go, but you have to be able to look
at it and go, Okay, how did he look in practice?
And then as a coach, go, you're not going and

(21:52):
this is not the week for you to go. Will
you give it one more week? And then and then
well we'll let you go up against less formidable opponent
because you don't want to break confidence, you don't want
to stress out whatever energy they're trying to come back from.
And but I can I can fully expect Cooper bb

(22:13):
to be back in the lineup when they take on Arizona.

Speaker 5 (22:16):
Riley's offensive line coach White Yes.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (22:20):
Connor Riley is offensive line coach, pseudo offensive line coach.
In tendem with Clayton Adams, do y'all.

Speaker 3 (22:28):
Think the Cowboys should be more aggressive with these two
guys they have on the outside. Do you think they
should be taking doesn't seem like it seems like some
games they get somewhat aggressive, and some games is that
that the game dictates what you can and can't do,

(22:48):
Like last week, probably didn't have time to get too
aggressive right, had to get the ball out early. But
should they find some plays where they're going down the
field more often with with the tools that they have.

Speaker 4 (23:00):
Okay, So here's the thing about going down the field. Like,
if you're talking about just like go routes, all right,
cool ball snap, We're just gonna throw a go route. Okay,
that's one, two, three balls out. There's not much there's
not much needing need it from the blocking aspect of
it all. If I see the matchup, I guess I
catch the ball. Sometimes I can just catch catch it,
one two, and let that thing fly. But when you

(23:22):
start talking about matriculating the ball down the field vertically,
we're talking about blocking now, right, which you didn't and
justice a part of what I've tried to explain to
people about this offensive line. Dak has been doing wonders

(23:43):
behind this offensive line. So the more often you put
Dak in a five or seven step drop, the closer
you are to catastrophe happening happening. So it's it's it's
it's cool every once in the blue, like even the player,
even the play when he had to deep over the
ceed lamb in the game, right, you go back and

(24:05):
you watch that play and the design of it is cute.
It looks amazing. Tyler Smith he slammed down on the
on the guard into the center, and then they semi
roll right and you see Tyler Guy in spin out
opposite the way that they're rolling to come back. They
let Benito go free. But what ended up happened? Your

(24:26):
left tackle got beat inside where you know he can't
like the play is designed, you can't get beat inside
because you don't have the health there anymore. We're spinning
Tyler Smith out to go get Benito who's rushing from
the outside. Remember remember you left him out there, you
chucked him, and then you can't get beat inside. You
get beat inside. But Dak is so masterful in the pocket.

(24:48):
He's he's he's back Penalt, he's Backpalant and he gets
just enough on it before he is absolutely drilled by
two three hundred pound dudes. Now, if he isn't as good,
or you put that scenario into play multiple times, now
that becomes a sack that becomes when you watch the

(25:11):
play like he just when I tell you, he just
gets enough on it, because if not, it goes straight up.

Speaker 1 (25:17):
In the air to the interception.

Speaker 4 (25:20):
And so the more you start talking about that level
of going down the field, that's different that's different than
you just saying hut, and I'm throwing a go ball
and let pickings beat the male line of scrimmage and
try to go make a play. That's different than you're
talking about design stuff down the field. Now you gotta
go too tight in sets.

Speaker 3 (25:36):
You know.

Speaker 4 (25:37):
Now it's a two male route. Now there's less stuff happening,
more focused on those two guys. It's less in the
flow of the game. So being more aggressive that way,
I think I think coach Schottenheimer understands that this offensive
line isn't the best at pass protecting right now, and
hence why you see this offense being at such the

(26:01):
short routes or such so prominent in this in this
passing game. The timing of it all is coming out
quicker quicker, quicker, quicker, quicker. You're seeing when they are
taking those calculated deep shots. It's two tight end sets.
It's rolling deck out a certain way because having him
just standing in the pocket again once in the blue
is fine. But over time with the way they aren't

(26:22):
truly being able to hold up their blocks, especially on
the ends, especially your tackles, You're you're welcoming that that uh,
that catastrophe to happen to your quarterback.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
Would you would you incorporate more go routes with as
good as pickings is, with the late hands and the
way he pulls, you know, Pat p I calls. Would
you would you do a little bit more than what
they're doing or is it just well, the game kind
of dictates what you're able to do.

Speaker 4 (26:49):
The game dictated and also teams just aren't letting you
throw these deep balls to these guys. You you have
to you have to pick and choose when they're dictating it,
they're they're doubling guys or you know, they're shading guys
over there. So the the opportunity for you to throw
go routes because even if you come to the line

(27:10):
of scrimmage, you have to recognize it. You have to
be able to come to lone scirs and go, oh,
this is the one play where now we have man
the man coverage and then be right right like he
has to win to the line of scrimmage. The ball
has to be completed there and now we have to
make sure all those things come into play. Taking the
shots are fine, but again you always have to remember

(27:30):
if we don't complete it, when are we taking these shots?
We take it on a first down, second down, third down.
How is it happening? The unfairness that this offense has
been put in because of the lack of defense is
that they have to be everything has to be so
freaking calculated that we can't really waste plate sacrifice. He

(27:53):
can't sacrifice it down because now I'm like, damn, we
gotta punt. Now we punt. The likelihood of that opposing
offense only going to get points it's very high at
this point in time right any offense that has any
anything worth them is the likelihood of them scoring points.
And your defense is high right now, So you want

(28:13):
to take them. But I gotta make sure that it's right.
I gotta make sure you know, we're not too backed up.
I gotta make sure. It's a lot of factors that
come into it, and it's unfair. But the offense can't.
They can't miss a beat. They can't miss a beat,
they can't miss a play. Things gotta go absolutely perfect
for them. You gotta get points out of every single drive.
And if you don't, you know, you find yourself up

(28:35):
you know, doodo creek with no paddle Because you're off
your defense, can't stop anybody.

Speaker 3 (28:40):
All right, let's take our last break.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
Definitely taking my hand in the creek.

Speaker 4 (28:43):

day dot Com backslash rules. All right, hey, you pointed
this out yesterday and I think maybe even Monday and Tuesday,
that this Cardinals team has been in every game. Their

(31:47):
five losses have been what single digits, every one of them.

Speaker 5 (31:52):
Yeah, they're two and five, score like thirteen or something, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (31:56):
One fifty. They've only been out scored one fifty four
to which is weird. But all five of their lost
been by single digits. So they've been in every game, right, yes,
and their defense is not that bad.

Speaker 1 (32:11):
Right. They play run thirteen versus run twenty five events
versus the past. This team, I'm telling you, they like
we are sitting there saying it's wrong that we got
this defense to go along with dak. I promise you.
They fans are just saying, man, if our offense is
just do this, the'se got. Tell me from wrong, Jesson,

(32:36):
tell me from wrong. These guys are very disciplined. They
run a three four defense. Their linebackers are the strength.
Now they do have Kalais Campbell number ninety three defensive end,
and they have Devin Thomas and their their nose tackle,
but most of their work is being done by their

(32:57):
their linebackers and their safeties. They do a lot of work.
But this is the part I want to get to.
It looked like they plan a defense that we abandon
about two weeks ago. And these guys are running this
thing to perfection. And tell me I'm wrong, Jess, I'll

(33:20):
stop you when you're lying this. They play hard, they
play fast even when things go wrong. You can see
it ain't no panic, you know how I guys be
looking around when something happened. They gonna do that. They're
gonna test the discipline of our offensive line. Can you
block me for anywhere from six to twelve plays to score?

(33:46):
If you get me, you got me. But you're gonna
have to do this every time. You have to come
out be disciplined on our offense. Don't have these pre
snap penalties. Your wide receivers. We're gonna keep them in
front from us, and we're gonna tackle them.

Speaker 5 (34:02):
They're a thing. Yes, yeah, pressure where we weren't getting
the pressure that The.

Speaker 1 (34:08):
Thing is they don't. They're not a big sack team.
They're not a big sack team, but they're They're gonna
depend on their guys being in the right place, knocking
down enough passes, are keeping you in a short enough
run here and there, because the average four point two
a carry when you do run the ball like one
hundred or one hundred and nine yards that people rush for.

(34:31):
But they it's something something about them that you gonna
play them all the way to the wire. Their five
losses have been lost with two three minutes left in
the game, of five minutes left in the game. These
I'm telling you their defense could be something special if
their offense we just get a few more points. Now

(34:53):
I've seen them drop two or three touch two or
three interception. I've seen them drop Boo the Baker drop
one against the Coats. The game after that, the Green
Bay game, Thompson dropped one. They I mean right in
their hands. They are well coached team, and I'm talking about.

(35:15):
All I've looked at is the defense, and they believe
in their three four. They'll give you some four man looks.
They give you diamond nickel. They'll take out the big
guys and leave the all the linebackers. They got sweat
on that team. They got some athletes, but they are
not at their best. I'm talking about like when we
knew sweat with the Eagles. We knew Khalis camera five

(35:37):
years ago. But they do. They can make plays and
they still will make plays if you if you slip up.
The big thing is for me. They have number ninety four,
Delvin Thomason, big kid. They have number bill I. Nicholson

(36:00):
with Blid Nicholson and number seventy nine. I don't know.
He may not get much run, but these are big
nose guards. These are big, big nose guards. Now they
come out when they when they finish gets some hot
and heavy pass rush, they'll come out, but his first
and second down is they figure it's a run situation.

(36:20):
You're gonna see one of them big boys sitting in
the middle.

Speaker 4 (36:25):
When I watched him, and I think everything Nate will say,
I think you're correct.

Speaker 1 (36:31):
They don't.

Speaker 4 (36:32):
The thing that they're missing on this defense is that
they don't have every offense, every defense needs to have
that elite player.

Speaker 1 (36:41):
Yes, they.

Speaker 4 (36:43):
Don't on any level. And I know that what Budda
Baker was, and he's still a good player, but he's
not He's not elite. He's not a he's not a
he's not a game changer like he was three years ago. Yeah,
like at one point in time, you know you you
you were looking on the search for Buddha Baker. Kalais

(37:07):
Campbell's the name that you know that you remember. Klais
is on He's on the end, he's on he's on
his farewell tour.

Speaker 3 (37:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (37:16):
I watched Kalais and a lot of times, man, the
ball snapped players standing straight up. He's just relying on
old man strength and technique. Yeah, but you know, the
last thing you want to be is when you when
you were trenches, you I shouldn't be able to see
the back of your numbers, flesh straight up every single snap.
He's just old man. He get down there sometimes and
it's like it takes him a while to get down there.

(37:39):
But to Nate's points, Uh, and if you remember there,
they're head coach Jonathan Gannett. He's been defensive coordinator for
the Philadelphia Eagles, so we remember playing him over there.
And of course defensive minded coaches, so they they are
disciplined in what they do.

Speaker 5 (37:55):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (37:56):
They guys play hard and they give great effort. The
problem is they just don't have a guy that can
can solely separate himself from the pack. It's just a
collection of dudes. And their superpower is is that we
get eleven guys working on the same plane at the
same time consistently. That's the difference between them and correct, Yeah,

(38:22):
is that they're not a talent This is not a
talented group. Like when you like you're not looking around
like you know, man, wow, this this guy that guy
you got Josh? Yeah, Like yeah, like, ain't that Josh?
You know what I'm saying? Now, no baby, and who
can love your love? But I say that now and

(38:45):
I go. But it's the Cowboys and so the level
will go up when they play against the people like
you said that they don't. I'm telling you what I saw.
I'm telling you what I saw again. Good group. I
like Will Johnson. Uh he he was a cornerback that
a lot of people talked about in the draft. Some
may say that, you know, he was a steal to go.

Speaker 1 (39:08):
No he went what did he go in the draft?

Speaker 4 (39:10):
U N second round?

Speaker 1 (39:14):
Right?

Speaker 4 (39:14):
Second round?

Speaker 1 (39:15):
Second round?

Speaker 4 (39:16):
Yeah, people like you know that was a steal for
them in the second round. Like I said, some of
the names you remember. But there's nothing that when I'm
watching this group that I'm like, boy, you better watch
out for this, better watch out for him, you better
do Like there isn't anything. They just a group that
plays hard. They played disciplined football.

Speaker 1 (39:40):
Even their past rush. They just come as I mean,
nobody they it's like everybody said, hey man, we're gonna
take eighteen steps, but we're gonna all do it together.
Nobody breaks free like you saw for Dinver, Like you
see the Nick Nick break free, or you'll see ninety
nine break free, right, But everybody's just getting blocked, but
they pushing. They got back.

Speaker 4 (39:59):
You know, It's just one of those deals. Where they're like, man,
and that's why you see some of the games have
to come down to those one possessions because they're not
trying to give up too many big plays, especially in
the passing game. The coach ran well on them with
Jonathan Taylor, and that's that's one of the first games
that I watch because I said, all right, I want

(40:19):
to see what can we do in the run game,
how can we how can we attack them up front
the passing game. The passing game will come. I'm not
worried about that. I know that what we got a
CD Lamb and George Pickens, that will come. But I'm like, man,
can we get this run game going again so that
we can get some more light boxes, the light boxes.
I can take Shannon more shots down the football field
when I got a light box. But if they feel

(40:41):
like they can stop our run game with their front four,
their front you know, front six, whatever, front seven, then
they gonna keep dropping them guys in the back. And
now you're gonna have to figure out how to get
those plus plays, those exposive plays, fifteen to twenty yard
plus plays with two safeties back there.

Speaker 3 (40:56):
How are they They're doing pretty good in the in
the in the passing game, they've only had one three
hundred yard passer, and then they held Green Bay to
one hundred and sixty eight yards passing and they played
some some decent offensive Indie Green Bay. Seattle's been throwing
it around. What makes them so good in the past.

Speaker 4 (41:13):
They're consistent, like if they're supposed to be in his
own everybody's where they're supposed to be, So it makes
it more difficult for you to complete like they're they're
not busting plays, they're not misassignments. There's not like people
out of position. They're just a group that's just like,
we ain't really talented. And that's probably a compensation that
coach probably had with them, saying, hey, we ain't the

(41:35):
most talented group in the world. We don't got a
bunch of All pros running around here, Pro Bowls running
around here, So how are we going to be able
to compete every single week?

Speaker 3 (41:45):
Do your job?

Speaker 1 (41:47):
You know, I was listening to the Buddha Baker on
NFL and you know, in the NFL talk show for radio,
and they had him on and one of the I
don't know who the guy was, they played together, so
he was on he said, Man, we remember we used
to meet with the DVS once a week to watch film.
He said, oh, no, it ain't just the DVS. Now
it's every Friday we watch film to make sure we

(42:10):
got our calls right. The whole team, the whole defense
does is now to make sure our calls are right,
to make sure everybody's lying up. Even sometimes we say hey,
as a group, hey we don't like this, let's take
it to the coach.

Speaker 5 (42:21):
So that's all player driven.

Speaker 1 (42:24):
I hate to say. I didn't want to say that,
but lord jeez, I'm getting into the press.

Speaker 3 (42:29):
State and it's only Wednesday. Wait till hold that till
him tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (42:33):
He wanted to have an extra day. Yeah, trying to
have an extra day.

Speaker 1 (42:37):
I don't want the extra day. They coming here Friday.

Speaker 3 (42:40):
Do you think do you think this off the Cowboys
offense and at home, obviously it's a little bit of
a different game. You can change the calls easier. Do
you think that's one of the reasons why the offense
struggled a little bit is because the environment they were in,
you know, the noise factor, dak Out being able to
probably change calls at the line of scrimmage as much

(43:03):
as he can when it's not quite as loud or
do you think it was just they're better, They're better
the defensive line.

Speaker 7 (43:08):
Just that.

Speaker 4 (43:09):
So I'm not gonna I'm not going to discredit all
of that. There is something to be said when you
have to go on the road and deal with the environment,
deal with the crowd, noise and so on and so forth,
that is that does play a factor. They were better, Yeah, because.

Speaker 3 (43:21):
One of the things he's done really well this year
is recognizing defenses, changing the call.

Speaker 4 (43:27):
They were better up front.

Speaker 7 (43:28):
But but.

Speaker 1 (43:31):
We said, we've been saying it for what now this
eighth week coming up, ninighth.

Speaker 4 (43:36):
Week, eighth Golly, this season's going by so fast?

Speaker 1 (43:41):
How many how many perfect games? Right, let's just acts
right now. How many perfect games you think that got left?
I mean for this season, because that's what it's gonna
take nine games, So he's gonna have to play six
perfect nine times.

Speaker 3 (44:00):
That ain't happening. So what I'm saying, he's gonna have
two or three, He's gonna lay two or three more eggs.

Speaker 1 (44:08):
Okay, that answers the question, right.

Speaker 3 (44:11):
Yeah, I just I mean, he's not gonna get to
forty two or three more games, you might get to
thirty two.

Speaker 1 (44:18):
You know, you know you can stretch it, you can
give hope, you can do whatever you want. But these
these guys and until we run that ball a little
bit more effectively, because that that is the light. It's
two things. That's saving our offensive line when we can
run the ball just effectively, just enough. And if Dak

(44:43):
stay in his present state, if we can get that
right there, then you got a chance. But if for
some reason we decide that we can't run the ball
at all, it's gonna be a different game. Every time.

Speaker 3 (44:58):
They haven't scored over this is the good news. They
haven't scored over twenty seven points all year, But Jesse,
you gotta saying they've only done that twice. So if
we can get to thirty this week, we might be okay.
How do y'all feel? Last thing before we go. It's
only Wednesday. You're entitled to change your mind two or

(45:19):
three more times before Friday. How do you feel the
Cowboys chances are this week against this team? Oh, the
Cowboys win this game.

Speaker 4 (45:28):
I think the Cowboys should win this.

Speaker 1 (45:31):
How you feel?

Speaker 5 (45:32):
Partly because they're at home?

Speaker 1 (45:35):
I just want to see how disciplined our I don't know, brother,
because I don't know how discipline our offensive line is.
I just we got to play a clean game. And
I just don't see us playing a clean game. You know, no,
you know, no offsize, no, you know, I don't see
a clean game, man.

Speaker 3 (45:55):
All right, So a quarter of a point as a Wednesday,
get that get to a point by Friday.

Speaker 4 (46:01):
I think they should win this game. But Kyler Murray
will be coming back, will be coming back to AT
and T Stadium.

Speaker 3 (46:06):
Hasn't lost the game.

Speaker 4 (46:07):
There hasn't the offensively. I haven't watched them on tape
it I've seen some of their games and what some
of the things that will give us issues, they'll happen.
Trey McBride, Marvin Harrison, Zay Jones.

Speaker 1 (46:28):
You just can't. You just can't keep lying in. You
can't just keep lining up just guys in your secondary
were lining up weekend and week out, just guys. Buddah
Baker has been an All Pro, Thompson has played close

(46:50):
to that level. And when they're in two deep safeties
what gets me? When I see them in two deep
they can be as far back as twin twenty five yards. Okay,
why don't I guy, Why do I guys be up
to fifteen? Why when I can see all prod to

(47:12):
potential all pro players back twenty five, what make our
guys think they can come up to fifteen and twelve?

Speaker 3 (47:22):
I don't get it.

Speaker 1 (47:23):
I don't get it. Remember that route where Diggs fell,
They ran that same route against this last sea they
played Green Bay, they ran that same route.

Speaker 3 (47:37):
We know what that dude did.

Speaker 1 (47:39):
When that dude the option out there, he stood out there,
he fundled him outside and turned and just ran and
was even right with and just running. And the quarterback
through the ball, he just rapped it and tapped it down.
That was the same thing they asked Diggs to do.
But he wanted to come up here and be mister
fancy and he failed. And then next week, well, ween,

(48:02):
I'm an old man man. I'm a man's man. Okay,
all we got you, all right, I'm a man's man.

Speaker 3 (48:12):
Okay, good stuff fellas tomorrow Cowboys Defenseman, Cardinals offense, same time,
same place. Chris keeping us over the air, Josh, thanks
for keeping the company. Be back tomorrow, hang up with
the boys.
