a positive. Never, I don't care what nobody say. Taking
you to the bench ain't a positive.

notes throughout the game. And the guy's up top, like hey,

to fix. They just need to communicate better. But I'm thinking,

But when the cornerback you know, it's everything running fast
as hell. Cornerback's dropping back, It's safety is ten to
fifteen yards away. He can't yell at him in a
full season.

to say that our linebackers play a part in this too.

huffing and puffing and you're a little tired, that's when
the communication needs to be at its best.

You you know, because when you get tired, like I
don't care what you whatever field that you win, athlete,
non athlete, you get a little bit fatigued. Things ain't
it ain't it, ain't it, don't it don't register the
right way. You ain't what you say, what you tired,
you huffing and puffing. And that's why I said, And
(10:45):
this game from the Bears offensive standpoint, where it has
me a little worried is because the team is that historically,
the Cowboys have struggled it with long before even lose
got here. Will the teams who operate in this manner, motions, shifts,
(11:08):
constant movement, constant personnel change, They force they force you
to either you're gonna communicate this overly communicate this or
someone's gonna mess up. Because we're gonna start one way,
we're gonna break the huddle, start some way. We're gonna
shift to something. Then we're gonna motion behind that. We
(11:28):
might motion again. So that's gonna require you to when
you break the huddle, call your normal set. Boom, you
break the huddle, they come out, they ain't want thing.
Now you call all right, cool? You know right right right, strength,
right right right? Oh, Roger, Roger, le le Leo. And
then now they shift, all right, what do they shift to?
They shift to? Why to condense? All right, we're changing

now they and that and they don't motion into it.
Now we went from being Roger being the strength to
now Leo meaning left is the strength. And then before
that it might have something else. And then now you're
gonna be able to communicate that and change.
Speaker 8 (12:02):
The communication he's talking about is before the snap, when
they're both out there seeing. Yes, it's not during the play.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
It's not passing a guy off to another guy. You
should know that right, Like.
Speaker 5 (12:14):
In the zone, I have a zone.
Speaker 6 (12:16):
If my job is to drop from where I'm standing
to eight yards over there, then I have to go
from where I'm standing, check the things in my area
to eight yards over there or a third or a
half or flats hook, whatever it is. If I'm the
linebacker and were in Tampa two, I'm turning and running
to the strength right. When anytime you see that linebacker
(12:38):
running down the middle of the field in Tampa two,
he's always going to be turned to the strong side
of the defensive side of there was the strengths, right,
Usually that be with the tightness side. If you're in
twelve or twenty one personnel or for three receiver side,
whatever it may be, his job is to turn and
open up to that. Now, again, what happens when you
got two dudes coming at you? Which one do you take?
Speaker 10 (12:59):

You run down the middle of the field and this
dude kind of coming over top of you can do
com underneath. Now you're stuck in between the bind of
which one you take. So that's the part of the
communication is beforehand so that we understand and know. But
this is the kind of office that makes you check
the checker and that communicats have to be overly communicated,
(13:20):
and when they do that, the office is designed that
way to give their quarterback signs their receivers and office
of linement signs of what you're doing, but also to
get you to mess up too.
Speaker 7 (13:32):
And what he just said in the regular zone basis
what evil flew that guy that comes in the middle.
Your lineback is supposed to be deep enough that he's
on top of this guy and that guy that's running
down the middle of the field. Your safety is supposed
to be back deep enough to be able to compete
for that ball. Right there is there is when they over,
when they flood or zone where that safety stays short.

Now to take the short route. You get what I'm saying.
What got us was not a complex deal. I think
we'll face a more complex deal this week than we
did last week. That was not They took number one
in the little guy that number seventeen and beat us

not doing a bunch of move like this is way more.
And go back and watch the Cowboys when they had

and over communicate by all their shifts and motions and
informations and personnel, They're constantly challenging you mentally your eyes,
your eyes, your assignment, alignment, like it's a constant fifty
three and the third by one hundred focused battlecause they're

gonna make you play every inch.

Of the feet with what they do.

Nickel dime, quarter dollar, just like he said yesterday, they
he's gonna do it. He's gonna march you down the field.
And when you make that one mistake and we hoping
his kids eyes on. And when you make that one
mistake and you said, oh, I got this shrouded and
I'm jumping it, he faded back. All of a sudden,
you're standing up by yourself.

So communications very easy for some.

And then as you get older, you slow down and
everybody should know what they're doing, So then you don't
communicate as much because you should know what you're doing.

Whoever, the next one is if a back is in there,
three the pree wide receiver side. So now what happens
is I know if I have a third, Well, I
got one, I got whatever number one. Now I have
the number one wide receiver who ends up on the
outside at the snap.

It's naked, right, But if they have a guy that
runs out, and if he.
Speaker 6 (17:26):
Comes down and runs in and another guy comes a
rounds out and then but here's the thing, check this out.
You can have the back in the backfield who could
run a round out of the back who becomes the
number one? Well, you just chase the number one inside
to the post. And the linebacker now is trying to well,
you got a guy running, he's number one. Now you
see what I'm saying. So like that's the communication.

So communication is basically know what you're supposed to do and.
Speaker 6 (17:50):
Know what you're supposed to do, but also saying that
this comes back down to film study. Hey hey look, hey,
I'm gone not three by one. You know, here comes
the switch relief three point one. Hey, watch out for
and now we're all on the same page. Hey, if
they switched, Hey, if they switch.
Speaker 9 (18:06):
I got So that was my point. Why not just
say this is what we're doing. When we come to
the line, we're saying it out loud so we don't
get confused if you don't do that. Is that kind
of an ego thing where like I know what I'm.

Yeah, but even when it's happening, you can communicate it.
But are you understanding it? And are you understanding as
part of the how how deep in that route is
number one become now number two?

Come forward, because that's the zone defense dedicated on keeping
everything in a cone right in front of you and
in like in nothing behind you, everything in front of you,
funneling it from the outside end. That's the part of
a zone like, that's the I want to keep everything
in this funnel and we rally to it. If gods

are getting behind you, then you've you've done something wrong.
That's the purpose of a zone It's never to let
anyone behind you, never to let anyone outside of you.

Let's keep everything in front of us.

Let's make them have to pass through these these windows
that we're defending. And now we are all rallying to
the football. We're all coming to the football, eleven to
the football. We're trying to make it very difficult. We're
trying to make these windows very difficult to see through.
And of course what ties into that is I gotta

get home on the front end. That is the key
telling I gotta get home on the front That is
the absolute key to a zone defense. If you don't
have the pressure up front, I'm sorry. There are holes
in his zone and you're banking on he either not
he's either rushed through those not seeing it, or you've

gotten him off his spot where he's eliminated himself. If
I can get him to look only half of the field,
then I'd like my chances, because ain't nothing else back here.

gonna have to play and lean.

to that side to give yourself a chance. Because if
you don't, how much power do you have with the coaches?
Are they gonna readjust something for you? Are you that
great of a box safety? Are they gonna say, well, right,
when we in these situations, Donald, we're gonna take you

to the bench. Taking you to the bench is not
a positive. Never, I don't care what nobody say. Taking
you to the bench ain't a positive.

So see if he starts cheating one way, well, quarterback

Well, so those are signs where you talk about you
guys in the booth, right, they'll go hey, listen, you know, hey,
in the first quarter, when we went three by one.

go when we came, lets you look like again, hey
we went three by one again, he cheated over real heavy, right,
like he's feeling that. And then now you go all

He gonna be so far over that he can't recover.
So those are the thing that they just take little
notes throughout the game. And the guy's up top, like hey,

every time we go three by one, boy, he getting
deeper and he's shaved more.

Over there, and he almost got a interception.

So now they kind of set things up kind of
like like, oh, guy, he feel good about this all
right cool?

Boom, be come with something back though you won't be
able to get there to recover.

So so this talking about Donovan, this mix reminds me
that so Shotty talked about this defense should be easy
to fix. They just need to communicate better. But I'm thinking,
like how do they communicate? I mean, are they literally
saying you take him, you take him?

Or I mean when the is it hand signals?

But when the cornerback you know, it's everything running fast
as hell. Cornerback's dropping back, It's safety is ten to
fifteen yards away. He can't yell at him in a
full season.

You know, for me, And then I'll just get it
deeper with it. And and people keep saying, I forgot
to say that our linebackers play a part in this too.
I'll keep going at Donald, but our linebackers play a party.
Jesse jokes about the white guy that you know crowd

And then a walk through on Wednesday and kind of
shells yesterday and shell stuff today's temple. When them bullets
get the flying out there on that field and you
huffing and puffing and you're a little tired, that's when
the communication needs to be at its best.

Right when you when.
Speaker 6 (10:24):
You you know, because when you get tired, like I
don't care what you whatever field that you win, athlete,
non athlete, you get a little bit fatigued. Things ain't
it ain't it, ain't it, don't it don't register the
right way. You ain't what you say, what you tired,
you huffing and puffing. And that's why I said, And
(10:45):
this game from the Bears offensive standpoint, where it has
me a little worried is because the team is that historically,
the Cowboys have struggled it with long before even lose
got here. Will the teams who operate in this manner, motions, shifts,
(11:08):
constant movement, constant personnel change, They force they force you
to either you're gonna communicate this overly communicate this or
someone's gonna mess up. Because we're gonna start one way,
we're gonna break the huddle, start some way. We're gonna
shift to something. Then we're gonna motion behind that. We
(11:28):
might motion again. So that's gonna require you to when
you break the huddle, call your normal set. Boom, you
break the huddle, they come out, they ain't want thing.
Now you call all right, cool? You know right right right, strength,
right right right? Oh, Roger, Roger, le le Leo. And
then now they shift, all right, what do they shift to?
They shift to? Why to condense? All right, we're changing
(11:49):
now they and that and they don't motion into it.
Now we went from being Roger being the strength to
now Leo meaning left is the strength. And then before
that it might have something else. And then now you're
gonna be able to communicate that and change.
Speaker 8 (12:02):
The communication he's talking about is before the snap, when
they're both out there seeing. Yes, it's not during the play.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
It's not passing a guy off to another guy. You
should know that right, Like.
Speaker 5 (12:14):
In the zone, I have a zone.
Speaker 6 (12:16):
If my job is to drop from where I'm standing
to eight yards over there, then I have to go
from where I'm standing, check the things in my area
to eight yards over there or a third or a
half or flats hook, whatever it is. If I'm the
linebacker and were in Tampa two, I'm turning and running
to the strength right. When anytime you see that linebacker
(12:38):
running down the middle of the field in Tampa two,
he's always going to be turned to the strong side
of the defensive side of there was the strengths, right,
Usually that be with the tightness side. If you're in
twelve or twenty one personnel or for three receiver side,
whatever it may be, his job is to turn and
open up to that. Now, again, what happens when you
got two dudes coming at you? Which one do you take?
Speaker 10 (12:59):
Right?
Speaker 6 (12:59):
You run down the middle of the field and this
dude kind of coming over top of you can do
com underneath. Now you're stuck in between the bind of
which one you take. So that's the part of the
communication is beforehand so that we understand and know. But
this is the kind of office that makes you check
the checker and that communicats have to be overly communicated,
(13:20):
and when they do that, the office is designed that
way to give their quarterback signs their receivers and office
of linement signs of what you're doing, but also to
get you to mess up too.
Speaker 7 (13:32):
And what he just said in the regular zone basis
what evil flew that guy that comes in the middle.
Your lineback is supposed to be deep enough that he's
on top of this guy and that guy that's running
down the middle of the field. Your safety is supposed
to be back deep enough to be able to compete
for that ball. Right there is there is when they over,
when they flood or zone where that safety stays short.
(13:53):
Now to take the short route. You get what I'm saying.
What got us was not a complex deal. I think
we'll face a more complex deal this week than we
did last week. That was not They took number one
in the little guy that number seventeen and beat us
(14:14):
to death.
Speaker 6 (14:15):
Yeah, that Giant's office is not a complex office. They're
not doing a bunch of move like this is way more.
And go back and watch the Cowboys when they had
to play the Lafloors the phase, Yes, the Shanahans the
bend when he was in Detroit. Right like those games,

the Cowboys defense struggled in because they make you over
and over communicate by all their shifts and motions and
informations and personnel, They're constantly challenging you mentally your eyes,
your eyes, your assignment, alignment, like it's a constant fifty
three and the third by one hundred focused battlecause they're

gonna make you play every inch.
Speaker 5 (14:57):
Of the feet with what they do.
Speaker 7 (14:59):
Nickel dime, quarter dollar, just like he said yesterday, they
he's gonna do it. He's gonna march you down the field.
And when you make that one mistake and we hoping
his kids eyes on. And when you make that one
mistake and you said, oh, I got this shrouded and
I'm jumping it, he faded back. All of a sudden,
you're standing up by yourself.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
So communications very easy for some.
Speaker 5 (15:24):
No, no, well, let.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
Me finish, Let me finish. It's very easy on the surface.
Speaker 9 (15:32):
Does a lack of communication come down to ego a
lot of times?
Speaker 2 (15:36):
Like I know what I need to be doing, don't
tell me what to do.

And then because I know when I'm growing up playing baseball,
you always would turn around two outs right field, you
throw it here, you do this, this is what everybody's doing.
And then as you get older, you slow down and
everybody should know what they're doing, So then you don't
communicate as much because you should know what you're doing.

I know what I'm doing. And then when you.
Speaker 9 (15:57):
Think you're supposed to be doing this, and you're really
supposed to be doing that, nobody tells you.

The play goes off and then all hell breaks lost.

If we're fifteen games in, maybe you two games in.
How can you think that way?

Then what's the communication that SHOT's talking about? Where's the
lack of communication?

all these numbers, like in the inside, you're here talking
about you know, zero, one, technique three, technique four, I

But then when you get into the back end, the
defensive backs, they're counting from outside in a right. So
if I'm on the left hand side, right, if I'm
on the left hand side, which would be the right
hand side of the of the offense right and the
furthest out receiver.

I'm going that's one. That's two.
Speaker 6 (17:03):
Whoever, the next one is if a back is in there,
three the pree wide receiver side. So now what happens
is I know if I have a third, Well, I
got one, I got whatever number one. Now I have
the number one wide receiver who ends up on the
outside at the snap.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
It's naked, right, But if they have a guy that
runs out, and if he.
Speaker 6 (17:26):
Comes down and runs in and another guy comes a
rounds out and then but here's the thing, check this out.
You can have the back in the backfield who could
run a round out of the back who becomes the
number one? Well, you just chase the number one inside
to the post. And the linebacker now is trying to well,
you got a guy running, he's number one. Now you
see what I'm saying. So like that's the communication.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
So communication is basically know what you're supposed to do and.
Speaker 6 (17:50):
Know what you're supposed to do, but also saying that
this comes back down to film study. Hey hey look, hey,
I'm gone not three by one. You know, here comes
the switch relief three point one. Hey, watch out for
and now we're all on the same page. Hey, if
they switched, Hey, if they switch.
Speaker 9 (18:06):
I got So that was my point. Why not just
say this is what we're doing. When we come to
the line, we're saying it out loud so we don't
get confused if you don't do that. Is that kind
of an ego thing where like I know what I'm.
Speaker 6 (18:17):
Yeah, but even when it's happening, you can communicate it.
But are you understanding it? And are you understanding as
part of the how how deep in that route is
number one become now number two?

Understanding is part of communication.

But this is the simple part.

time are you coming forward. You're backing up and you're
hollering and your talking.

Come forward, because that's the zone defense dedicated on keeping
everything in a cone right in front of you and
in like in nothing behind you, everything in front of you,
funneling it from the outside end. That's the part of
a zone like, that's the I want to keep everything
in this funnel and we rally to it. If gods

are getting behind you, then you've you've done something wrong.
That's the purpose of a zone It's never to let
anyone behind you, never to let anyone outside of you.
Speaker 5 (19:25):
Let's keep everything in front of us.
Speaker 6 (19:27):
Let's make them have to pass through these these windows
that we're defending. And now we are all rallying to
the football. We're all coming to the football, eleven to
the football. We're trying to make it very difficult. We're
trying to make these windows very difficult to see through.
And of course what ties into that is I gotta
(19:49):
get home on the front end. That is the key
telling I gotta get home on the front That is
the absolute key to a zone defense. If you don't
have the pressure up front, I'm sorry. There are holes
in his zone and you're banking on he either not
he's either rushed through those not seeing it, or you've

gotten him off his spot where he's eliminated himself. If
I can get him to look only half of the field,
then I'd like my chances, because ain't nothing else back here.
