and conditioning and adding tools to your toolbox, getting with
the veteran guys, learning how to set things up. Like

that has historically shown that you can perform when it
matters the most.

So like even in practices, we have become so adverse
to playing the game that we're supposed to be playing.

can't play this many plays? Gods can only work so

don't get the fact that, oh, you know, we're looking
at this monitor with monitoring these gods there. And I'm
not saying that technology is not important. We have to
evolve and we have to adapt to technology. But sometimes
simplicity is best. I play football, that is my occupation.

I should probably do the thing and get the reps
and my occupation. That's gonna make me better in it.
And I go back to saying this, and let me
also say this, I understand the environment in which we
live in as far as being covering and being a
part of the Dallas Cowboys, I understand that Brian Schottenheimer,
who is the head coach, does not necessarily have all

right now, have the power or powers to say who
and what and when and where. So maybe in his
heart of hearts and I don't know this, he wants
God to go and play. But as someone who has

all of a sudden, his handstrings get fatigued, and you

back at everybody with a litit of football common sense saying.

Well, you know, he didn't practice much more. Maybe he
should have come on.

Fellas practice football like Jesse says, let what happens happen,
and what you have left after training camp take it into.

this guy's having a really good day because he caught

five and seven on seven, and then he caught two
in team. So when you when you when you put
it all together, you're like, man, he had a day.

unrealistic in the sense of what happens now when I

battle at some point in time this season. How do
you now adjust to it? Because I was getting ready
to throw the ball and then now that the tackle's
coming like this, I have to now reposition myself and

find the next window to throw the ball in. Now
you know is the safety coming down? Is am I
throwing them to a hospital ball? All these things now
is what you have to use your mentals to get
through receivers when they're running these routes. I always talk
about running routes, and running routes is just not a
full speed run the route. There's tempo to it. You
have to understand where do I follow them, the progression

of things. If I'm the second read in this route,
then I don't have to be as fast because if
I come open as the second read of this route,
if I come open too early when it's time to
get to the second read, I'm covered. So I can
maybe I can maybe dance a little bit, I can
maybe sell another route and then boom. I have to understand,
oh it's his zone?

If it's man, that I know that I have to
keep this thing moving.

Give my you know, show my numbers to the quarterback
that I'm ready to catch the ball if it zone.

quarterback friendly in that pocket. I can't run through that
zone and miss the window. So these are all the
things that you don't get in seven on seven, you
don't get in one on ones, that you consistently get
in eleven on eleven team type periods.

How many guys do you think because we talk we
always talk about talent, right, and then when you get
to this level, it's talent, it's the mental aspect, that's
the technique. There's so many things that go into each
how many guys do you think are.

About Jim Warriors and all that, but guys in the
receiver just the receiver position alone, that are great, great
wide receivers until you get into those situations like one
on one. This guy can beat anybody. This guy should,

But he can't hold onto the ball when somebody's close
to him, he's in traffic, he freaks out, he gets
alligator onct When you get to like this level, they

keep them from being in the league because of the traffic,

about all the time, Like the quarterback, he's got the arm,
he just doesn't he doesn't recoverage.

physically have like the tools that could be the next
Jerry Rice, They just don't have the little things that
keep them in the league.

that has historically shown that you can perform when it
matters the most.

So like even in practices, we have become so adverse
to playing the game that we're supposed to be playing.

can't play this many plays? Gods can only work so

don't get the fact that, oh, you know, we're looking
at this monitor with monitoring these gods there. And I'm
not saying that technology is not important. We have to
evolve and we have to adapt to technology. But sometimes
simplicity is best. I play football, that is my occupation.

I should probably do the thing and get the reps
and my occupation. That's gonna make me better in it.
And I go back to saying this, and let me
also say this, I understand the environment in which we
live in as far as being covering and being a
part of the Dallas Cowboys, I understand that Brian Schottenheimer,
who is the head coach, does not necessarily have all

right now, have the power or powers to say who
and what and when and where. So maybe in his
heart of hearts and I don't know this, he wants
God to go and play. But as someone who has

back at everybody with a litit of football common sense saying.

Well, you know, he didn't practice much more. Maybe he

Fellas practice football like Jesse says, let what happens happen,
and what you have left after training camp take it into.

of the wide open catches, the more of the less
contested catches. So when you talk about the collection of
all those plays in the highlights that we get a
chance to see, it looks like a player has caught
so many passes in a particular practice and like, oh man,
this guy's having a really good day because he caught

four passes in one on ones, he caught another four
five and seven on seven, and then he caught two
in team. So when you when you when you put
it all together, you're like, man, he had a day.

I saw him. I saw him physically catch the football
ten times.

And then everybody goes out and buys their trading cars
and go and now so you're I'm gonna get into
my fantasy team. This dude's good ball.

Yeah, but now you put him in that traffic traffic
and the eleven on eleven that coach Shott and Hammer
saying I'd much rather do eleven on eleven.

Those those players look different, y'all like that. I love

It's what you You weren't a fan of it, now you, Yeah,
I am, because like you say, the passes ain't coming perfect,
no more, right, passes ain't perfect. So we want I
want to see when you stretch out a little bit
behind you, when you know you're gonna get that rib shot,
or how you're gonna catch it and cradle when you
know that smack coming so I want to I want
to know this now, and I get a chance to say, Oh,

he ain't finna do nothing. He alligated on. See, ain't
finna reach out and get there.

Yeah, the quarterback is standing back there. They're doing seven
on seven. The quarterback standing back there. Somebody throw pitching
the ball and he's standing back there. No pressure, there's
no going off in his head.

I got you know what I'm saying, Like I'm I
don't have to sift through anything. There's nobody at my feet,
nobody near my knees. I'm not moving in the pocket. Yeah,
I could deliver a strike all day long. It's pitching
catch for the quarterback. That's unrealistic. I get the concept
of it. You want to see certain things, but it's
unrealistic in the sense of what happens now when I
know what the protection is. Nate slipped, right, Nate slipped

a free rush's coming in what you do now?

Or if you look out, I'm doing what I'm saying,
or all these things are happening now.

Where you have to you have to kind of put
the game, put the play in a game type atmosphere.
It's not gonna be perfect. Nate is gonna slip at
some point time this season. Nate is gonna lose a
battle at some point in time this season. How do
you now adjust to it? Because I was getting ready
to throw the ball and then now that the tackle's
coming like this, I have to now reposition myself and

find the next window to throw the ball in. Now
you know is the safety coming down? Is am I
throwing them to a hospital ball? All these things now
is what you have to use your mentals to get
through receivers when they're running these routes. I always talk
about running routes, and running routes is just not a
full speed run the route. There's tempo to it. You
have to understand where do I follow them, the progression
(28:17):
of things. If I'm the second read in this route,
then I don't have to be as fast because if
I come open as the second read of this route,
if I come open too early when it's time to
get to the second read, I'm covered. So I can
maybe I can maybe dance a little bit, I can
maybe sell another route and then boom. I have to understand,
oh it's his zone?
Speaker 8 (28:37):
Is it man?
Speaker 5 (28:38):
If it's man, that I know that I have to
keep this thing moving.
Speaker 6 (28:41):
Give my you know, show my numbers to the quarterback
that I'm ready to catch the ball if it zone.
I got a loan, I gotta be I gotta be
quarterback friendly in that pocket. I can't run through that
zone and miss the window. So these are all the
things that you don't get in seven on seven, you
don't get in one on ones, that you consistently get
in eleven on eleven team type periods.

How many guys do you think because we talk we
always talk about talent, right, and then when you get
to this level, it's talent, it's the mental aspect, that's
the technique. There's so many things that go into each
how many guys do you think are.
Speaker 12 (29:17):
You know, we talk.

About Jim Warriors and all that, but guys in the
receiver just the receiver position alone, that are great, great
wide receivers until you get into those situations like one
on one. This guy can beat anybody. This guy should,
this guy should.

Be in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (29:38):
But he can't hold onto the ball when somebody's close
to him, he's in traffic, he freaks out, he gets
alligator onct When you get to like this level, they
just they just yeah, like they got the speed they run,
the route they get, but there's the little intangibles that
keep them from being in the league because of the traffic,
the you know, the small things. You know, we talk
(29:59):
about all the time, Like the quarterback, he's got the arm,
he just doesn't he doesn't recoverage.

As good, he doesn't do this.
Speaker 4 (30:05):
Like, yeah, are there like a ton of guys that
physically have like the tools that could be the next
Jerry Rice, They just don't have the little things that
keep them in the league.
Speaker 8 (30:17):

There were guys like.

Kid from Bailor the Cowboys had a couple of years ago,
had all the tools.

This wasn't a smart dude. Terrence Williams, that's his name.
Terrence Williams had six foot one, six foot two, could
run right, could do all the things, and it had
like he had the prototypical size over speed. He had
more than enough speed.

But then it came down to all right, now take
this part of the game and let's match it. Let's
match it to what you're supposed to be doing. And
that part it couldn't always correlate, So you stick around
for a little while, you make some plays, but eventually
that all catch, it all catches up to you, and
then you get you get moved out of the league
and you can't find your way back in because us teams,

you know, because teams now you're.

Trying to go to different teams. It's best to be
dads than the other way. So gifted, gifted, so gifted
to we will make plays for you, right.

you have that level of talent where we'll adjust to
your knowledge and what you can do best because you're
so gifted and talented.

lot they'd be like, you know, the quarterback financy. You know,
I had enough, coach, I ain't throwing him, so you
can just take that part of the game out.

know what you like? You know the coverage you're reading.

but it's like, those are the type of players where
when a team drafts you, they have a little bit
more patience with you. But then once they once they're
patients are thin and they let you go. You got
to go somewhere else, and you can't pick that mental
part of the game up.
