Speaker 5 (01:36):
Paul said, he says, being on, you know, being on
covering our show. Now, he said, we made him go
to wingstop. He went to wing stop the other day.
What'd you take, Paul?
Speaker 6 (01:47):
Wait, that's what the young people call good gas.
Speaker 7 (01:50):
I I know, I know, Hey, Ny, before we get
to you, tell you a little story about what's developed
here live in the studio.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
You know, Kurt told us in the rundown he probably
wasn't gonna wasn't gonna be here yesterday or Monday, probably
won't be here Friday. Jesse slid over into your seat
on Monday for camera purposes. Paul asked him to get
over here with the wide shot you could see, you know,
see the two of us. Jesse evicted Kurt and he
squatted in his seat and he would not give it up.
(02:25):
Now it's actually Nate seat. So we'll see what happens
when they comes back.
Speaker 5 (02:31):
To Noays getting to run together on me man, I
thought Kurt said he wasn't going to be here today,
so I sat here so that you know, we camera purposes.
Speaker 6 (02:39):
Okay, Yeah, I wasn't we'll see like.
Speaker 8 (02:41):
It's Tuesday, right, Like no, man, I was like, yeah, Wednesday.
Speaker 5 (02:44):
He's got that lot going on here. I got a
bunch of things going on.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Like dang, so are you here Friday, Kurt? I doubt it, Okay,
don't know for sure.
Speaker 6 (02:53):
Can I sit here? Okay? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Okay, yeah, I mean you can sit there whenever you want.
You just might have a challengerbout two weeks. I won't
challenge him, so puting Paul's on you.
Speaker 6 (03:03):
It's gonna hurt speaking to him.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Nate Newton, you know you got exposed to the multiverse yesterday.
Tell us we heard all kinds of bad things about
the run game and the offensive line, and what did
you see firsthand from someone? Whitney sing it in person?
Speaker 6 (03:23):
And let me say this before you starting it.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
I held off so much because I wanted to call
him yesterday as soon as the practice was over, and
I said, no, I'll just wait. I'll just wait for
tomorrow and I'll just let him tell us. So I'm
I am anticipating this myself.
Speaker 6 (03:42):
I called some other folks, but I said, I'm gonna wait.
I'm gonna wait.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
I want to hear glad you did that so we
can see it, hear it all together.
Speaker 6 (03:48):
Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
Is it gonna be a long season, Nate, Yes, it's gonna.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
Still be a long season. But what I saw yesterday
was when I first looked that, I'm like, wow. They
kept they kept seeming like they was hitting us in
the backfield. And that was more because they were out
scheming us. They were a living further along in their
scheming than we were doing. We were staying as basic
(04:15):
as basic can be. So when the center point out
to the strength to the weakness, you know, all of
a sudden, you see a safety slipping there, you see
a corner come off the edge, and they was kind
of hitting us in the backfield. And so you was like, wow, okay,
But you go back and get with the coach and
look at some film and you'll see a lot of
times guys were on their men, but they would do that.
(04:38):
But the Rams had an extra man. Now, granted, their
temple was way higher than ours. I thought we had
a good tempo going with our pads in the days
that we had on paths. Did they have another level
of tempo and they brought it. Poonaford made some place
(04:58):
you know, they you know, over six the five seventy plays,
Guy's gonna show who they are. So Poona Ford made
some plays, The PI Kid made some plays. The Verse
not so much. The Verse didn't show up as much
as he did the year before. I mean he was
just doing a lot of yapping. I mean a whole
lot of he never stopped talking. So but it was
(05:21):
a good thing for your left tackle, Nate Thomas. He did, okay,
your right guard he got baptized a little bit, but
he got his phrase in too. It's just they could
never figure out what was the strength, who was going
to who, So when they did their double teams, it
was not your deuce blocks, your two on one blocks.
(05:43):
They never knew who they was coming off on, seemed like,
and there was always a step slow. Talking to the
offensive line coach, they just got to pick up their speed,
They got to pick up there, They got to pick
up their eyes, understand what's going on, who they're going to.
And that's just more about was scheming and understanding who
you went into yesterday. Like I said, these guys looked
(06:05):
good out here going against each other, but it was
just another level of speed. Because you made a mistake,
you got punished for it and it looked at bad,
you know, but you got to know what you're looking
at on film. The high tight ends. I love Coach Wells,
London Wells, but bruh, they got to pick it up now,
(06:27):
high tight ends got to pick it up. When it
comes to run blocking, they got to pick it up.
My friends.
Speaker 5 (06:32):
I was listening to Coach Schottenheimer do his pressure right
before our show came on, and one of the things
he mentioned about that he didn't like about what he
saw was that the cowboys had their pads high, meaning
a lot of offensively and defensively in those trenches. They
just they just had a lot of high paths, not
not not getting under guys, you know, not being able
to move guys because their their their paths were high.
(06:53):
Did you see did you see some of that on
on on both fends for.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
The well I didn't see a lot of the defense.
I was just focused in on offensive line because those
are the newest set of guys that we have for
as none veterans, you know, the right guard and the
left tackles. I stayed all day with them and just
saw a little bit of the defense. And but I
(07:17):
saw the defense they it was more of the past.
They was getting scorched up on the past. But for
our offense, yes, they're gonna have to get their pad
level a little bit lore. Uh, they're gonna have to
know who they're coming off to. And I think it
will be better because we listen to the same press
Conry just coach is saying. We we stayed as basic
(07:40):
as we could stay.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
The Rams are not on that level. They are they're
there on that next level. So they can run a
few different schemes or give you a few different funky
looks and they can confuse your offensive line. So I
talked to coach Riley, the offensive line coach. You need
to say they're gonna work on that, but right now
they got to just get the bases now of who
they are individually. Pick up the speed, pick up their physicalness.
(08:07):
I mean, when you are confident and you know where
you're going, and you know who you are and what's
your role and your at your position, you play faster. Uh.
These guys didn't play fast yesterday. They played okay, but
not fast and not aggressive, you know. And that's what
your right tackle gotta pick up. And that's what your
(08:27):
left tackle I mean your right guard gotta pick up
in your left tackle has to pick up the speed
of their game. They're gonna be okay, but it's gonna
be some work. Foretas, this ain't gonna be no easy roll. Now,
it's gonna be some work.
Speaker 8 (08:39):
It sounds a little concerning because we've been hearing about
what great pace Schottenheimer's had the practices going, and it's
been a you know, all out guys running this and that.
Now you're telling us that they were way behind what
the Rams.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
Are not just a step, just a step. It's college
is knowing. It's knowing, like it's certain things about if
Jesse wrote a story, I can look at it and
read it a thousand times and not pick up what's
going on. But you can read it one time and
suggest you need to punct your weight here, you need
to cut this off. We got to take this out.
(09:11):
It's just knowing who you are, what you're working with,
and and and and and being confident. They did not
look confident. The Rams look like they've been there, folk
fellas they just did. The y'all knew where they was going,
how they was gonna get there. And it's just a
different pace and that looks better. You know, the Cowboys
(09:35):
looked dis on it. They did not look this on it.
They looked like even when the Cowboys made plays on them,
you can say, Okay, this safety blow, this blow, blow,
this job or this god, this corner didn't didn't cover
right you. You couldn't say that every time for the Cowboys.
You know, it's like, okay, who made that mistake? And
everybody kind of looking around when it did happen they
(09:56):
had some winning plays. Now they had some winning play
The Cowboy has win in plays, but it wasn't as
many as the Rams, which for me was expected.
Speaker 5 (10:06):
Is this normal for a team, Nate in your perspective
that is under a new head coach and a new
differensive coordinator or should they be further along or are
they right on pace to where they need to be
kind of clicking on all cylinders by week one?
Speaker 2 (10:24):
We all know that until we do something and we
do it against people that are equal or better, you
don't know what the pace is. Now. The good players
they're gonna adapt to this pace. You know the play
if you are got any dog in you, you're gonna
adapt and you're gonna pick up and you're gonna get better.
(10:45):
To me, I'm not gonna panic until four or five,
six games into the year. I'm just not. These guys
got to be given a fair chance to grow. And
and I'm you know, and you know, like Kurt said,
know the well, I'm bringing it. Oh my god, what
is we gonna win a game? Yeah? I think we'll
win a game. But it's gonna take some time, you know.
(11:08):
But in today's NFL that is something you don't have.
It's time. You know, people want an instant right now.
Man Port in Alas.
Speaker 8 (11:20):
What games to figure it out?
Speaker 2 (11:24):
That might be too late, not figure it out, but
just get better, get get better, get get get unity,
you know, get get to playing together. You have a
new right guard, and the way this thing look, you're
gonna have a new left tackle going into the first game. Okay,
you just got a second year center, you know. So
it's not gonna be you know, because we're used to
(11:48):
four or five years ago, we never worried about that.
We're like, oh, we got Tyron, we got we got Zach,
we got Frederick and all these great years having guys
like that, we never worried about it was like, oh,
what the run back, gonna do it? Oh, can we
get an extra wide receiver? Well, you got off new
offensive linement you got And that's just how it's gonna be.
(12:09):
We we just don't pop in, you know instantly.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
We we know how you feel. It's well documented how
you felt about the scrimmage last year against the Rams,
because about every three weeks you'd be like, fellas I
told you all this back in training camp, what was
gonna happen?
Speaker 2 (12:26):
Right?
Speaker 3 (12:26):
Compare last year to kind of the way you saw
it this year? Is do you feel as bad as
you did last year?
Speaker 2 (12:34):
No? No, I don't because, like I said, once I
got in the where the coaches that looked at the film. Uh.
And when coach came out today and said what he said,
it's the same things I saw guys coming off late
on double teams. Uh. You know. And and when you
in the right guard, he's blocking the guy, but he
(12:56):
ain't dominating, he ain't moving him, He ain't rocked last
he just maintaining. When when you're maintaining a scrimmage like this,
the defense wins. If you're in a game, you know,
if you got the right back back there, because our
bats did not, I backs missed like four or five cuts,
you know, and Blue h Jayden Blue, I think his
(13:18):
name is. He missed like two or three major cuts,
you know that everybody saw like whoa, whoa, you know,
but he missed it. It's just the speed of the
game called him. I mean, you know, and so uh
Javon Williams he missed the cutter too. So it wasn't pretty, fellas,
it wasn't pretty. But if you look at the film,
(13:39):
you know, and I hate to sound like a coach,
it wasn't as bad as I'm screaming it, you know
what I'm saying. Just there's so many people taking their
turns of messing up. Uh uh. It just didn't look good.
But I feel better now I understand this curve before
we before understand it's rare. We better have to seal
the same results.
Speaker 8 (14:02):
It sounds like they weren't like like last year you
were saying they were like bullied by the Rams. This
year it wasn't so much.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
Now it wasn't. At least we got at the Rams
and we had some winning plays and we got it
where guys where guys had their hands inside in their
chests finishing them on a couple of plays, and and
and it made the Rams kind of mad. Last year.
It was like a D nine bull though. You just
ran through him and scraped up our whole team. You know.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
What you got going on? You can you hang out
for another segment or you got a roll?
Speaker 2 (14:36):
It's on y'all, man. I mean, I'm rocking with y'allly
Kurt back fighting for it. I'm sorry, Kurt, I know.
Speaker 6 (14:46):
Maybe you can have any city wanted him.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
You didn't take Jesse c I'll be back when you
get back then and I'll be here.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
All right. We're going to keep you for another segment
because I know Jesse got a lot of questions. I
think we got some more uh to since you had
eye on practice to see what you saw, We've heard
what everybody else in the Dallas media that wasn't there saw,
and I'm not sure how a lot of them even
know about this because there wasn't a broadcast of practice.
So we want to hear it from the source, the
guy that was there that saw it. When we come
(15:14):
back for the second segment to hang out with the boys,
you know you.

He still watches I Get No Love. He still watches.
He watches in uh incognito mode.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
All right, Nate, back to you, Curtin Jesse, what are
the questions you have for Nate.
Speaker 5 (19:12):
As far as you when you know you're talking about
the running game? Were there any backs because that's one
of the things that coach has talked about. He said
it's going to be a physical running football team. And
his words, not mine, that we're going to run it
up opponents.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
Hu ha ha.
Speaker 5 (19:30):
Right, And so whether that's Javonte or Miles Sentners, I
know he didn't practice and Jayden Blue and Hunter lip
Key and Little Tank take us out with the hamstring.
But was there any signs of the running game yesterday
that kind of gave you hope that said, you know what,
we might be able to tote this thing a little bit.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
In the running game, you know, like I said, they
had a few nice runs. Jamal Waves had a couple
of nice runs. Jayden Blue once he figured out that
you know, seahole hit hole, you know, your speed ain't
gonna just make it where you can make a mistake
he did, he started doing a better job hunting. Olympics
(20:09):
scored uh in the red zone. So I mean, but
I'm hoping camp our main guy, you know. So uh no, no, no, no,
we won't have to see in the preseason. I don't
know if Myles Santas will played, but the other guy's
got to play because it's nobody has taken the league
(20:32):
in my opinion.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
What you what did you see? We've heard all camp
long that Turpans, a big part of this offense, ended
up at running back receiver. What did you see from
him yesterday? And what do you think that's going to
translate to?
Speaker 2 (20:47):
And he scored? He scored two touchdowns. He been running
the routes that they have given him nicely. Uh, minimal drops,
you know last year a bunch of drops. Minimal drops.
You know, Jesse Holly say can still do a better
better job of catching with his hands. I just say,
as long as you catch it, I'm good, you know.
(21:07):
So you know, so that's just I feel to catch
the ball man, because we other than that man. Uh,
you know, like I told you, guys, one of the
best plays yesterday was by Milton to to Jalen Brooks.
But they had a nice little light up the scene.
(21:28):
But it was beautiful man and uh and God will
grill through a nice one to turf. And so they
had some plays now, you know. And that's why I
hate to sound like the grim Reaper, but it just
won't enough big plays, a good plays. And so you
(21:48):
could come in and say, yeah, we took it to him,
We didn't. We held on. We held on. Just my opinion, from.
Speaker 5 (21:56):
What you saw on defensively, you know, no Masie in
the middle. Don't know if that matters any or not,
but what you saw from the defensive side of things,
you know, we know what the question we had the
questions all last year, hell for the last couple of years.
We know what the questions were when we left the offense,
and we know what the questions were when we got
to free agency, to the draft, to mini camp, to
(22:17):
OTA's and now training camp. From what you saw, were
there anything that you looked at in here? You know
what that question has been answered. Whether it's from the
DB's perspective, We know that we were light and injured
there of course in the middle. Being able to hold
up there lineback or play was there anything that you
saw that made you go all right, those questions that
(22:39):
we had were answered on the defensive end.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
Yeah, the mown Clark did not have. Some nice things
happened yesterday. He read some things, got on and got
some hits for some losses. Ken Murray came in and
did a nice job. The the kid Jack Sanborn, he's
(23:03):
been he's been solid. He's been solid getting everybody lined up.
And those are the guys that I've seen when I
just peeked over there for a little bit they were doing.
They did a pretty nice job coming up in the person.
They came right out of stretching right into team run
and team run and team pass. So they open it
up getting after it. So from what the litt bit
(23:23):
I saw, those three guys stood out. I want to
say something good about the number forty one Donovan.
Speaker 6 (23:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (23:34):
Yeah, his duke can run. His dude, his speed makes
up he make a mistake, his speed makes up for it. Man.
He's he's active, he's everywhere. He's he's kind of like
at the Marven overshone type guy, but a little bit thicker,
a little bit bulky, not as tall and loan. But
this kid is doing Okay, my man didn't show up
(23:56):
as much as I thought it would Sam Williams. But
I didn't see a whole lot of the defense, So
I don't want to say he didn't show up at all,
but just a little bit that I saw, you know,
he didn't. He didn't make that impact that he's been
he been making all during camp, you know.
Speaker 8 (24:11):
So dumb question, no questions, dumb question questions. I think
I know the answer to it, but I want to check. So,
when they're doing these joint practices, they're going simultaneously. So offense, yeah,
the defense and all that.
Speaker 5 (24:28):
Yeah, so there are two fields are going right now,
So think about now. Sometimes they'll bring everybody together to
go good on good, right, but you'll have uh dak
in the offense over with their ones defense, and then
you'll have U Jimmy Garoppolo and the Rams offense going
over with you know, the Cowboys defense on separate fields.
(24:51):
And then then then at some point in time they
bring it together and that may do ten twelve plays
where everybody's right there, it's one field, everybody's on the sideline,
and then you kind of go from there.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
So yeah, and they only did that for special teams
to kind of what when the first special team period
they went through because unlike uh, unlike past practices one
on one on one pass rush, one on seven on
UH seven on seven UH wide receivers and all of
that and one on one dB receive, it was all
(25:22):
team team one, team two and some other feature more pass,
some other featured more runs. Then they had the reds on.
Then they had the two minute drill, but mostly all
eleven on level.
Speaker 8 (25:34):
Do the do the ones get most of the work
or are they still kind of protecting.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
Them minute they go four ones got work, all the
everybody there ones and our ones on president. I didn't
see was their quarterback.
Speaker 6 (25:48):
He's out so so.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
Uh yeah, I didn't see him.
Speaker 5 (25:53):
Staffords out with the back injury taking the epidural. They
say he's been out with the back injury and hasn't
practiced a snap.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
We need to stay away from mama mama working.
Speaker 5 (26:03):
Yes, yeah, he hasn't practiced a snap yet. This training
came so uh. They trying to conserve and preserve that
back for at some point in time when the season starts.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
Off to do three pump.
Speaker 3 (26:24):
Warm we know where tiring puts this towel where do
you put your tail?
Speaker 6 (26:37):
Keep the next strong?
Speaker 3 (26:38):
Hey, Nate, I know you don't like to get into
this kind of talk all the time, but this is
kind of a big deal. And maybe you have some
insight because you've been behind that closed door with mister
Jones years and years ago, and you know, I'm sure
his strategy has stayed pretty much the same over those years.
What what do you get and being out there around
(27:01):
the guys and you know, the team, what are your
what's your gut feeling on this contract thing from Afar?
It kind of seems like it's starting to get just
from what I hear and and the way Jerry's talking
about it. He seems a little agitated, you know, almost
almost condescending kind of tone towards Micah and you know,
(27:22):
taking little digs here and there. Is that just part
of the showmanship and the gamesmanship of this contract negotiation
or is this thing got potential to be bad and
not m could not be on the field the first.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
Game with Jerry? It is you know, I mean, fellas
for us, you know, you're telling you from one hundred
and fifty to two hundred million dollars, that's the world
to us. But Missus Jones have been been there and
done that, and you know I'm not you know, I'm
not taking nothing away from Michael. He chronicled everything well
(27:58):
when you first read his story four or five days,
how he wanted to be a cowboy, and how he
did this, how he was ready last year and the
year before, and he you know, he didn't care about
at that time, you know, but all of this man said,
he never his agent never talked to mister Jones, and
mister Jones never talked to him. It was always through Michael.
(28:20):
Now I don't know what Michael and mister Jones talked
about it. I'm not gonna even act like I do.
But Missus Jones has all the rights to Michael for
the next three years. And so now the only question
I have, because the only question I have, is Michael
(28:41):
tough enough, you know, to say I'll just play seven
games this year, I'll miss most of the season because
until mister Jones is ready, you know, to give up
the money or to whatever it is, it is what
it is. That's how everybody like nature like you're unconcerned.
I am. I mean, you know, I'm not getting none
(29:03):
of that. I ain't gonna see a penny of that,
you know. But I know this team is better with Michael.
I know this team can practice a little bit different
with Michael. I know this team will play a little
bit different with Michael. But other than that, fellas, I stay,
I stay my distance. When I see mister Jones, I say, hey,
(29:24):
thank you for having me out. Mister Jones. You know,
I go on about my business. I speak to Michael, Hey, Michael,
how you doing today, brother beastrong. I go on about
my business because this one time, bro, I really it
is what it is. It's ugly, and the fans of
cheering car don't Benko, mister Jones, don't be Nico. You know,
(29:45):
Joon could be Miko and everybody else. He owns the
whole Keeton caboodle. You know, me Kodo own thathing. Mister
Jones own it all. So I be just laughing. It's
fun for me, it's fun. I know for mister Jones,
it may not be fun. And for man. I know
it ain't fun for for Michael because you ought to
see sometime when he's walking off the field and Jones talking,
(30:08):
he boy, he'd be like if if if the I
could only speak. You know, yeah, he'd be walking on
the field. He'll try not to add like he looking
over there, jest, but you know it. But the man
got your money. Man got your money, got your money.
You can't be cut.
Speaker 10 (30:26):
H Well.
Speaker 3 (30:27):
I hope for the fan base in Dallas that they
get this worked out, because we can't take two of
these in one year. I mean, as as Dallas sports fans,
we cannot take two in one year. They might burn
this city down if that happens. Man, I mean, you know, hey,
welcome Rangers and Stars number one and the too.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
Baby.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
Oh well, Nate, thanks for spending two segments with us. Man,
we miss you. When you're coming back.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
Hey man, I don't know, man, I just hey, hey,
say out here this Michael.
Speaker 3 (31:01):

Speaker 2 (31:04):

gonna come home, but I may stay now if you're
really coming, I may stay.

Speaker 2 (31:22):

Speaker 6 (31:22):

Speaker 2 (31:24):
I don't know that we need y'all. We're a team, bro, Yeah,
good team.
Speaker 6 (31:28):
Yeah, we got talk.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
Yeah, we're talking about we got but Jess our Michael.
You know, but all the shows he's doing, he's our Micael.
You don't need more money.
Speaker 3 (31:38):
Jesse is becoming very familiar with contract negotiation. I am
you didn't have to negotiate many in the league. It
was just like what you're gonna pay me?
Speaker 5 (31:47):
All right?
Speaker 3 (31:48):
I'm good.
Speaker 5 (31:49):
Now, Now I get a chance to negotiate contracts. Now
I get to say whether or not I want to
take that deal or not.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
All right, we appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (31:58):

(35:28):
sure did, all right, Fellas, what'd y'all take from?
Speaker 2 (35:31):
What?
Speaker 3 (35:32):
Any concerns jump out from you? You encouraged by what
Nate had to say because you know last year, we
know how he felt. Sounds like it's just kind of
things you can and Kurt, I know what you were asking.
Is it a bad thing that Shoddy only watched the
offense as the head coach? Jesse? That stuff you coach
from the film? Right, you go back and look at
(35:52):
the defense or do you need to have eyes on
the defense too? Does he need to be a walking
head coach?
Speaker 6 (35:58):
Nah, he's an office portinator. Yeah, so trusting your staff.
Speaker 5 (36:01):
He's gonna be on the offensive side like that. That's
his that's his baby. He's trusting ibra flus to do
what he has to do. And you know, I played
for I played for two coaches here in Dallas who
were opposite sides of the ball. When I was here
with Wayne Phillips, who was a defensive guy, you know,
he spent a lot of his time with the defense.
(36:22):
You know, he would come in and have his early
morning you know, team meetings. But when we broke that
thing down, oh, coach Phillips was down there at the defense.
You know, he may come down there and Picky's head
into the offensive meeting room every now and again and
may come and sit in five ten minutes. And the
same thing. When Jason Garrett took over offensive guy, he
was a head coach. He spent his time doing the
head coach duties in the big team meeting. When we
(36:43):
broke up offense defense, he was down he was down
there with us in the offense and the defensive coordinator
was doing his thing, the same thing at practice. So
the the whatever the heck, unless he's a head walk
around head coach, unless he's you know, Dan Campbell or
Mike to those type of coaches that don't call a
specific side of the ball, they're gonna be walking around.
(37:05):
But those who don't are gonna spend time on the
side of the ball which they're familiar with. They're the
defensive side of the ball. Coach, he's gonna be more
on the defensive side. He'll come and peek his head
on the offensive field and and kind of stand on
there a little bit. But if he's an offensive guy,
he's gonna be in that offensive side watching those things,
really looking at what's happening, because that's the side that
he knows should make.
Speaker 8 (37:24):
It harder at at all, because there's you don't have
a singular voice that can kind of like, what's he
gonna tell the defense to do? You know?
Speaker 6 (37:32):
Nothing?
Speaker 8 (37:33):
Right, So, I mean it almost seems like you have
a division of two and it's it's too late in
the game.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
When when Wade was here, did he have anything to
say about the offense? Nope, So that's not abnormal.
Speaker 5 (37:46):
Nope, nothing, he had nothing to say about the offense.
I mean, let's just say we have a day where
offense is jumping off sides. He jumps saying we gotta
be better guys, you know, like, but he ain't talking
about nothing ext he don't know what the hell going
on next those and vice versa.
Speaker 8 (38:01):
You know, as an offensive player, would you be like, whatever, way.
Speaker 6 (38:06):
No, I still a head coach. I still a head coach,
you know what I mean?
Speaker 5 (38:11):
But I do think like Shody understands, I'm Shody would
only be yelling at the defense of guys if there's
a penalty, if there's something stupid that happens a god,
you know what I mean. Like, other than that, he's
he's solely dependent upon Matt Eberflus being the one who
controls his temple. And then when they go and watch
(38:31):
the film as a unit, as a coaching unit, and
you know, they're watching things, and he's listening to what
the coaches are saying, what eber Flus is saying, and
that way he can kind of have you know, he
may ask a questions like all right, we scored right?
Who blew that coverage? And they'll ask what happened right here?
Like why is he so wide open?
Speaker 6 (38:48):
He pulls?
Speaker 5 (38:49):
And then or no, I guess somebody in the meeting room,
you know, he's like what wait, what happened right here?
Why is he so wide open? Who blew the coverage? Yeah,
right here we had this coverage call. We'll cover three
the safety that whatever the whatever the mistake was, or
you know, if they're if there are a lot of
times you'll have refs at practice, you know, if there's
an excessive amount of holding on the defense. He comes
(39:12):
in to the meeting, and I'm meaning Brian Schottheimer comes
in the meeting. All right, guys, listen, no, not the
results back from the ref today seven office of I mean,
defensive holding plays today, let's break out, you know, the
boxing glove. Whatever we got to do so that we
don't have the holding on the defense. Well, you know,
we have to address that. And then when they watch
the film they start saying they go, okay, that maybe
(39:33):
that wasn't a hold, maybe this was a hole. Yeah,
so that that's the part that he'll take part in
the defensive side. But you know, he is he is really,
really really dependent upon ebra Flutes running it the best
that he possibly can.
Speaker 3 (39:47):
Did he pick ebra Flues or was that kind of
given to him as.
Speaker 8 (39:53):
He had already been hired, So I assume he had
a big say in what.
Speaker 3 (39:57):
In hiring, because that that seems like very you're dependent
as the head coach, you're the offensive coordinator. If you're
depending solely, like you said on, that's a very important
position and you're trusting that to Hey, you go take
care of that. I'm going to take care of this,
and then you split duties. Was that a GM appointed
(40:18):
position or was that something that he was like, this
is the guy that I want or was it kind
of like this is the guy we're going to get.
Speaker 6 (40:24):
Are you good with this?
Speaker 5 (40:25):
I want to say when they started this process, it
was more so from the uppers that decided to bring
Matt Ebnflus back. I don't know if this was a
Brian Schottenheimer Git. I think it was more of a
Brian Schottenheimer. I'm okay with.
Speaker 6 (40:39):
Right, you know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
Okay, here's what we're thinking about doing. Are you good
with this?
Speaker 10 (40:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (40:44):
I'm good? Okay.
Speaker 3 (40:45):
I didn't know if he was like because he picked Haid,
picked a lot of his other guys and placed him right.
Speaker 5 (40:51):
His offensive guys. Yeah, yeah, his offensive guys. A lot
of those he picked. Yeah, defensively, I don't know if
he was one hundred percent the guy who's calling the
shots on who is.
Speaker 6 (41:00):
DC was going to be?
Speaker 8 (41:01):
Can I ask another coaching related question?
Speaker 3 (41:03):
Don't ask me, asked Jesse.
Speaker 8 (41:04):
Don't look at me interject here? You know so, uh
Shotty said today that don't or after the practice, don't
read much into it.
Speaker 2 (41:16):
Guys.
Speaker 8 (41:16):
We're literally played two coverages. You know, we're playing with
us kept all our clubs in the bag seven iron.
That's probably what we're going to do the whole preseason
of seven Iron.
Speaker 6 (41:26):
Is it hard?
Speaker 2 (41:27):
Now?
Speaker 8 (41:27):
I understand you know you're not giving away things right now,
you're working on the basics. But do guys need to
do They need to expand the playbook some now against
competition so that they are ready when the real games
get here in September.
Speaker 5 (41:44):
See, this is why I've always been such an advocate
of one not losing that fourth preseason game and some
of those guys playing in these preseason games because you
want to see this stuff on film. You want to
be able to practice this stuff. I know they do
a lot of this versus their own team, right, will
they expand the play book? But like to Nick's point,
he said, there is a difference when there's another team
(42:04):
in there, the speed is different, the competition is different.
And you know, when you talk about not when you're
talking a lot about you know, not paying much stock
into what happened that practice. I don't necessarily agree with that.
I get why he has.
Speaker 6 (42:21):
To say it.
Speaker 5 (42:22):
He's a head coach. This is all falling the shots
of him. Well, I don't agree with that. Is because
this is all that we have with the ones.
Speaker 8 (42:31):
This is all we have to go off of it.
Speaker 5 (42:33):
You know what I'm saying, like, this isn't we don't
normally in the past, when Nate was coming up, when
I was coming up through the game. You start us
played in preseason game number three, right, and so you
got a chance to see what it looked like. This
is all that we have. This is all that we
have to judge off of.
Speaker 3 (42:51):
Now.
Speaker 5 (42:51):
Granted we aren't the judge during execution of it all,
but when our eyes are looking at things, we don't
get much else. And going up against your team doesn't
necessarily give me the greatest confidence that you're good at
what you do, because they aren't good at what they do. Right, Like,
(43:11):
so you're running the ball and practice well, doesn't give
me any hope that you're gonna do it well in
the game, because historically you've had a horrible run defense.
So you know what I'm saying, Like, if it's not
like the defense that you were going up against in practice,
were the two thousand and one Ravens or whatever the
year that was two thousand Ravens, right, Like, if that's
them and your defense, and you're telling me, man, I
(43:32):
run it back to getting off now, I'm like, shoot, yeah, boy,
if they're getting off against this, but your defense has
been known to not stop anybody, right, And so then
on the same thing, on the flip side, if the
defense is getting after the quarterback, I'm looking at the
I'm looking at this and going, I don't know if
(43:52):
that's fools goal because the offense ain't necessarily been the
best offensive line that they've had in the years. So
what's true, Well, what's true to me is when I
see you go up against another team and not necessarily
that you have to scheme it up, but when when
their jimmies and Joe's are moving your jimmies and Joe's,
that's what I look at it, and I go, Okay,
(44:13):
we still have a problem here. And so some of
the things that we've talked about time and time before
that the Cowboys have had issues with showed themselves again
when the Rams came to town. So what am I
supposed to believe that you couldn't run the ball a
year ago Rams come to town. You can't run the ball,
(44:36):
you couldn't stop the run. A year ago Rams come
to town. You're having proper stop in the run. So
something to that I have to look into because it
matches what your issues were prior to coming to this point.
Speaker 3 (44:53):
Is it in a way a good thing? And maybe
kind of a reality check and like a like a
all right, there's still a lot of work to be done.
Speaker 6 (45:02):
I hope, so you know, like, hey, hope, so you were.
Speaker 3 (45:04):
Doing good against this defense. This defense is what you're
really going to.
Speaker 5 (45:07):
Be And now I hope that that's what he's saying, like, Hey, guys,
don't don't take the fool goals of what you've been
doing that practice every single day. Yes we've been getting
some good working. Yes we're we're competing hard, but as
you saw, there's another level, right, there's another level now
what we've been seeing. And hell, I would even be
the point where I pull guys aside, and I'm like,
(45:28):
have you seen this other guy from the other team?
You see how hard he practices, So question you know
what I mean? Like you see how you see how
he goes about that. Yeah, young fellow, come here when
we watch film. You saw how this dude who's been
in the league.
Speaker 6 (45:45):
So take note.
Speaker 3 (45:45):
Listening to what Nate said and about how well old
of a machine the Rams are. I mean, they're they're
at the top of the league, right, They're in the
top five teams in the league. And mcvay's been doing
this for a long time. A lot of the guys
on their team have been doing it. Shody sounds like
he's on the path to be a good head coach.
We'll see, we'll see what the talent is, see what
(46:07):
he does. But right out of the gate, with the
limited sample we have, he's talked a good game, all
the right things talking. He's talked a good game.
Speaker 5 (46:13):
We haven't seen the physical part of the talking matching.
Speaker 3 (46:17):
Right, let's just say we do it. It all matches realistically.
McVay has been doing this for years, and I think
probably the guys that haven't been around come in and
they see that and they see wait, a minute. We
got a long way to go to get to that,
To reach that intensity this early in training camp, even
if he is the second you know what everybody hopes
(46:39):
he is, it's gonna take weeks and weeks months maybe
for that to take shape and everybody kind of gets
seasoned together, right Like it's like I think we all
hope as fans, like he's great, he talks awesome, he
says the right things. He's got the guys competing, he's
got He's creating this culture, he's creating this mentality. Even if,
(47:01):
like just listening to an eight, you can tell there's
still a long way to go and to really hope
and expect for this season, it's gonna take you. Even
if you get to that, it's gonna take you halfway
through the season just to start clicking, like because nobody's
used to this. That's kind of where like I was hoping,
(47:22):
get in here. We win four of the first four
of the first six, and we're set up for the
second half of the season and we're good. Like I'm
kind of like, it's gonna take a little bit for
this to click.
Speaker 6 (47:31):
Maybe Vegas, what the sore wrong? You know?
Speaker 5 (47:34):
It maybe seven and a half. Maybe no, But to
your point, it does take time. And this is you know,
last year we had to hold out with CD Lamb.
We saw the hot I affected him, right. This year
we have to hold out with Michael Parsons, which, by
the way, I meant to accuate this because I haven't
seen Micah do anything conditioning wise.
Speaker 8 (47:53):
That's who I was wondering. At what point does he like,
can't be ready?
Speaker 3 (47:57):
Can you should? I'm saying, like, I can't condition with
a bad back. Well stop, have you ever had a
bad back? You can't do nothing.
Speaker 6 (48:04):
Let's stop. Let's stop with the bad back nonsense.
Speaker 5 (48:08):
But at some point in time, you in order to
get in football. Shit, we all know that you have
to do football things.
Speaker 6 (48:15):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 5 (48:16):
And so we're talking. This isn't new or exclusive to athletes.
You can work out for months and months and months
and months to get yourself in shape, get yourself right.
You take off three weeks and you back to square one.
Speaker 3 (48:37):
I recently moved. I was thinking this yesterday. I took
three weeks. I was running five miles two or three
times a week. Yep, no problems sweating, you know, gasping
at the end of it. But good took three weeks
off because I've been moving, and then I went out
of town for work. Ran yesterday. I was like, Oh,
it doesn't matter that it's four o'clock in the afternoon.
(48:57):
I made it two and a half miles and I
was like, I'm gonna I have to walk. Good about God,
I'm gonna have to walk. And then I started thinking
about the exact same thing. What I haven't seen Micah
do anything, like just from a cardio station. I'm saying,
not the calluses and the bruises and ump, just the
cardio part.
Speaker 6 (49:12):
That's what I mean.
Speaker 3 (49:13):
I mean, you can ride the bike and you can
do whatever.
Speaker 5 (49:15):
But like they had the same and had the same
to you. To you again, you don't understand if you
and I, If you and I right now, right here,
if we wrestled, put on the clock for sixty seconds,
Oh we we'd be dead, right, But that's that's.
Speaker 6 (49:31):
How much do you weigh?
Speaker 5 (49:32):
One twenty five leaning on you? So what about Micah?
Speaker 3 (49:38):
Thirty seconds? If we were lucky, I might make it
thirty seconds.
Speaker 6 (49:41):
But now imagine doing that.
Speaker 5 (49:43):
Now imagine us doing that for forty five seconds, taking
a break for forty five seconds, taking a break for
forty five seconds, taking a break, and you do it
fifty times.
Speaker 6 (49:51):
The gast.
Speaker 5 (49:53):
Now this is Micah at two hundred and forty five
pounds leaning up having a three hundred pounds due lean
against him for sixty plays.
Speaker 3 (50:00):
That's what. And you're in.
Speaker 5 (50:02):
You're in.
Speaker 3 (50:02):
You're my wrestling just going through it from when you
played how long? Just the cardio part two three weeks
just to get back in cardio shape. Much less the if.
Speaker 5 (50:12):
You're doing it, if you're doing everyday high tense, like yeah,
two or three.
Speaker 3 (50:16):
Weeks plus the plus the physical part, the bruising, the callouses,
the where your toenails are going off.
Speaker 5 (50:23):
You know, you're laughing like that's a real thing. Your
feet hurting, the big toe hurting, the knee, the camp strings,
the back, for real back, you know what I'm saying.
And because you have to get to it, you have
to get past the point of because everyone enters training
camp healthy, after first week, everyone's hurt.
Speaker 6 (50:40):
It's all about what degree it's hurting, is injured hurt?
Speaker 8 (50:44):
Darren Wooden said, I entered training camp the best shape
of my life and left training camp and the worst.
Speaker 5 (50:48):
Yeah, you you, and then you always hear about the
war of attrition. It's about how can I maintain this
throughout the throughout the season, because once you've got a
training camp, brother, you hurt. Everybody's hurt. That's why you
hear coaches say there's hurt, there's injured, hurt. You gotta
be able to play through, gotta be a push through hurt.
Injured means all right now, now we got to see
(51:10):
take some days off medical treatment.
Speaker 6 (51:12):
Everybody's hurt, everybody's dealing.
Speaker 3 (51:14):
With So what's that Kurt had this in the in
the rundown. What's the tipping point in your opinion where
Micah's not Micah unless he's doing stuff by what date next.
Speaker 5 (51:27):
Week, by preseason game two.
Speaker 3 (51:31):
If he's not in camp and full blown, then it's
gonna take a minute. It's gonna take a couple of
games for him to get.
Speaker 5 (51:36):
And my fear is because I don't know Michael personally,
but knowing Micah the player, it's when you go from
zero to a million miles an hour, that's when injuries happened.
That's when something is bound to us, you know. And
then it's it's the it's the it's the getting what
am I looking for? My coordination? I want to get
(51:58):
my coordination right. I want I want to get my
move down, you know, I want to.
Speaker 6 (52:01):
I want to.
Speaker 5 (52:01):
I want to practice my swim. I want to practice
my ripping pool. I want to practice my my you know,
my ripping dip. I want to practice all these things
in practice. But when I get in the game, like,
I don't want to get to Philadelphia and this is
the first time I'm trying something.
Speaker 3 (52:13):
And we know if you make it back here. Let's
just say you have a week of practice at training camp.
Practice out here ain't practiced like it is training now.
It's not as physical. You can't physical because of the CBA.
Speaker 5 (52:25):
The paths aren't on in ten times, aren't there, the
intensity isn't there. And still because you haven't been to practice,
he still has to go through ramp up period that's
by NFL, like, so he has to take a couple
of days to get in the ramp up period.
Speaker 6 (52:40):
So you won't even be able to really do what.
Speaker 5 (52:41):
They're doing because you haven't gotten to the ramp up
here that the NFL requires you to do.
Speaker 3 (52:46):
Let's get this thing done. Let's get done. Sign it.
Sign it tonight.
Speaker 6 (52:51):
Be nice.
Speaker 3 (52:51):
Get it knocked down so we find something else.
Speaker 6 (52:54):
To talk about it.
Speaker 3 (52:54):
I don't want to talk about this.
Speaker 5 (52:55):
Old jaj standing ten toes down that that's what.
Speaker 3 (52:59):
He said yesterday, hadn't talked to the player, hadn't talked
to the agent. Nothing, that's wild, unbelievable. All right, fellas,
good stuff, man, this was a great show. Kurt, Jesse, Paul,
thanks for keeping us on the air.
Speaker 6 (53:10):
Nate, you have your seat back.
Speaker 3 (53:11):
Hey, thanks as long as the building, thanks to spending
two segments with us. Chris, we don't know what happened
to You don't respond to the group text anymore. You
don't chime in on the show. He's just living it
up out in California. We'll be back Friday, probably without Kurt,
Mia Jesse will be here, Natal call in, and then
we'll figure out what's going on next week. Thanks for
