In January 1978, radar operators at Fort Dix and McGuire Air Force Base tracked several unidentified objects moving over the area. Pilots and tower personnel confirmed visual sightings of disc-shaped craft. A Fort Dix military policeman, investigating strange lights near the fence line, encountered a small humanoid being. After firing at it, he pursued the figure until it collapsed near the McGuire runway.
The entity was described as about four feet tall, gray-brown in color, with large almond-shaped eyes and skin that gave off a powerful ammonia-like odor. Security forces quickly sealed off the site, and a Lockheed C-141 transport plane arrived to carry the body to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for study.
Witnesses reported that the being had a reptilian or serpentine texture to its skin, and that its presence carried a strong sense of unease. The event has become one of the most dramatic encounters of the era, with military personnel directly involved in both the sighting of craft and recovery of a non-human entity.
