Well, let's get our car reviewgoing here for this segment.
Mr Mars had a chance to drivethe GMC Canyon.
Yes, sir, it's the 2024 Canyon4WD, 18, 4x Crew Cab.
If you can put all thattogether, oh wow, you can.
And this is a midsize pickupoffering.
It's been out from GMC forquite some time and, like a lot

(00:32):
of the vehicles in that category, it's gotten a little bit
bigger.
It comes in four trim levelselevation, the AT4, the Denali
and the AT4X.
We had the AT4X 4WD Crew Cab.
Now this is a veryoff-road-centric type of vehicle
.
It comes lifted.
It's got the big tires, bigwheels.
It's got all that good stuff on.
It Looks good Seats, fivepeople it looks really good.

There's a few things about it.
This one we had had the AEVpackage.
Now that's a deal they cookedup with American Expedition
Vehicles.
It's an aftermarket company, sosome of the things that we have
on this truck are from them,but you can get it through the
dealer when you go buy yourtruck, like I'm going to get to

that in a moment, oh my God.
Led lighting up front.
You're going to have the foglights, the daytime running
lights, taillights, all thatstuff.
It has the AEV fender flares onit, so that you got again that
off-road deal.
And then you've got a rearbumper that comes from AEV as
part of the package, skid platesup front for the front,

suspension transfer case, fueltank, the rear diff all of them
have skid plates, got rock railson the side of it that look
very similar to running boards,but they're not.
They're tilted up and they'reto protect the bottom of the
vehicle, so you've got to kindof step up and step over them.
Yeah, now we also had themulti-stow tailgate, which is a
storage unit on the tailgate.
That's really cool, and it'sanother one of those things you
go duh.
Why didn't somebody come upwith this before?

(02:00):
Now, the one thing it does haveand if I, when we get to it,
jeff, I'm going to get you tostop it whenever we get to it it
rolls on some 19 inch beadlockcapable wheels and it's got the
35 inch tires.
That right there.
Hold that right there.
Now this has an option of havinga full size spare mounted in

the bed.
Now, that's a really cool idea.
You can't fit it underneathbecause it's too big, but
they've got it mounted to theback of the cab flush.
Now, if you look at it throughyour rearview mirror, that takes
up half your rearview.
Yeah, it's behind the driver'sside, that's right.
And then you've got this big,enormous headrest on the other
side so that basically yourrearview is blocked.
And I do not understand whythey don't have the rear view

camera in the mirror, just likethe Chevrolet GM product I'm
driving right now has, yeah,don's electric one.
I mean because you have to.
If you're looking behind you,you've got to kind of work your
way around to look in betweenthe headrest and that deal.
Oh, stop complaining, it ruinsa perfectly good truck.
Anyway, I wanted to point thatout.
Engineers, you need to dosomething about that.

(03:06):
Moving on into the interior, wehave the leather front, the
leather seating, and front andrear seats are heated and
ventilated.
Now, standard for this year isan 11.3-inch touchscreen.
That's where you're going tofind your infotainment system
and your convenience controls,your Apple, carplay, android and
Google.
Get Google TV on this thing.

We're watching off-road stuffthere.
It's okay.
11-inch digital instrumentcluster on it.
I know about clusters.
It's really easy to configure.
For the driver had the PremierBose audio system, so it sounded
really really good.
For the driver.
Had the premier bows audiosystem, so it sounded really,
really good on the inside of it.
Now, up under the hood, now allof the canyons this year have

the 2.7 liter turbo max enginein it 310 horsepower, 430
pound-feet of torque, backed byan 8-speed automatic.
Now this vehicle is capable oftowing 7,700 pounds when
properly equipped.

This is a pretty good-sizedload that you're going to put on
a mid-sized truck.
Now the EPA says you should beable to get 16 miles in the city

, 16 on the highway and combine16.
I got 15.2 miles out of the 412miles I drove this vehicle.
This vehicle's kind of heavy.
It weighs in at 6100 pounds for50 for a mid-sized pickup.
This, this pickup truck, is thesame size as the old half ton
pickup.

It's within inches.
Absolutely it's almost as bigas that ram truck that sits
beside it in my driveway.
So again now, as far as you getout on the highway and you get
to driving it, obviously it'sgeared towards, uh, the off-road
, with the suspension, thecomponents that go into that, uh
the raised, the body lift kit,and in fact ours has the aev's x
got an extra inch on the lifton it.

(04:50):
So it's a very firm ride, butit's not harsh.
It's surprisingly, and I thinkthat's because of the tires and
the sidewall flexibility in it.
That kind of lightens up onthat.
Uh and again, as I said, itdoes set up high.
You got to step over the rockrails and if you try and use
them you got to be careful tomake sure it's not wet because
you will slide off of it.
Now the base model price for acanyon is 37 595.

(05:13):
The base model for thisparticular trim, the AT4X, is
$54,300.
We had a couple of options.
Wow.
So the MSRP as tested is$67,990 for a midsize truck.
From what to what Base price?
$37,595 for a base Canyon andthis is $67,000.

(05:34):
$30,000 more, wow, if you'relooking for something to compare
it to in the midsize.
I'm not good at math, butthat's a lot.
Ford Ranger for $3,220.
The Toyota Tacoma at $3,500.
Or even the Gladiator, whichstarts at $3,795.
It's the high one on it.
But other than a few littlethings, this was pretty neat.
