Central Howdy.
Howdy Breaming around the worldfrom the Sugar Shock Studios in

(00:22):
Texas, usa.
It's the In Wheel Time car talkshow.
Head to head, rodney Rodriguez, our Texas racing play by play
guy, who knows everything.
We'll have the racing calendarin case Rodney doesn't know all
the events and dates.
That's followed by Mars, whogives us an in depth review of
the 2024 Subaru Crosstek Howdy, along with Mr Barnes.
We need more.

(00:43):
Jeff Seekin, I'm Don Armstrong.
Glad you could join this crazyhodge podge of a mess up morning
that I have created for us.
Well, it's not been just me,it's just kind of one of those
hacks that we've run into everyonce in a while We've got so
much on our plate, we need to bethe play.
I mean I did want to explain toeverybody that all of us have

(01:04):
things to do, like I get to runthe commercials and Jeff gets to
do the video aspect of it, andMars.
We're still trying to figureout what that gives us when the
videos are in order.
Well, there's that.
Or when they're even in to thecomputer Because Mars does that
at home during the week.
So forgive us, we know not whatwe do.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Don't believe what I can see on these videos that
he's plugged in.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
Yeah well, my eyes are burning.
So now see, somebody that isplugged in is a worldwide,
nationally known play by playguy.
His name is Rodney Rodriguezand he is our man about town.
Rodney, good morning.

Speaker 5 (01:44):
Morning guys.
How are you?
Wouldn't it better when it wasjust audio only?

Speaker 1 (01:50):
I'll say this it was a whole lot easier.
I could tell you that whole loteasier.

Speaker 5 (01:55):
One little, one little Wi-Fi blip the other day.
The other day, when AT&T wentdown and then Facebook broke,
people were lost, weren't they?

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Yeah, what is wrong?
What is this world cup?

Speaker 3 (02:10):
to the caveman days.
Yeah, pretty much what's what'snext have?

Speaker 5 (02:13):
you been Been good.
It's been kind of working up tothe season.
Houston fires off tonight andfor me that's really when my
season starts.
There were supposed to havebeen a couple of other dates,
but Mother Nature hasn't playednice with some of that.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
Of course.

Speaker 5 (02:30):
Hadn't played nice this weekend with a lot of
racetracks north.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Well, I'll tell you what man.
The weather has been reallycrazy.
I mean, it's been ugly, it'sbeen damp, it's been wet.
I haven't flown, I didn't flyat all this past week at all.
None, none, not at all, whichis very unusual, yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:44):
A lot of fog, a lot of fog and all that stuff here
that's kind of prevented andwind.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Say yeah, same thing for you, because you're just
outside.

Speaker 5 (02:53):
Austin, aren't you?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, and it's been.
It hasn't necessarily been.
You know that the weather'sbeen bad.
It's just been extremely windyor or just cloudy, foggy in the
morning.
It's really weird, isn't itcrazy weather pattern.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Yeah, and you know, as soon as the weather gets done
with what it's doing right now,we go into hot yeah.
And it's going to be into hot, nonstop hot for the rest of the
year?
Yeah, no doubt.
So let's talk about racing.

Speaker 5 (03:21):
So tonight event is asphalt or dirt asphalt March
what's called track madness 2024over at Houston Motor Sports
Park getting set to roll up forthe first of 11 nights, really
At HMP Oval.
Additional information onFacebook HMP Oval track.
But really looking forward towhat I think is going to be, I

(03:44):
think this is going to be that, that consistent year that that
place has been looking for.
Don you know as well as asanybody that you know it was.
You know we had some good yearsand then things would kind of
fall off a little bit, but Ithink this is one that's really
going to bring bring someconsistency into pavement racing
.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Car count going to be up enough for me to buy a
ticket and go see.

Speaker 5 (04:05):
Oh man, you don't have to buy a ticket.
Come on out, I'll get you inhalf price.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Half price.
I appreciate that.
Thank you very much.
No, but I mean, is it good?
You know, people come to seeall sorts of races and they want
to see the different cars, butthey want to have, you know, at
least a half a dozen cars perrace.
You think that that's going tohappen this year?

Speaker 5 (04:27):
I think that'll happen.
That'll happen in the majorityof the classes.
Eventually.
I'm not going to sit here andtell everybody go tonight and
there'll be a dozen in each,because I can't make that
guarantee.
That's like forecasting theweather.
How is?

Speaker 1 (04:39):
that.
How is the racing atmosphereamongst the car owners and
drivers?
I mean, are people stillgetting out there wrenching on
their cars during the week andthen take it out to the
racetrack on a Saturday nightfor tons of fun?
Or have people cut back likethey're doing on so many things
these days?

Speaker 5 (04:56):
You see a lot of that on the dirt side because it's
still, it's still possible onthe dirt side because the dirt
side has what asphalt racinglacks, which is more of true
stock car classes, you know, with IMCA stock cars and street
stocks and factory stocks.
And that's something that OwenPittman there at HMP is really
trying to do this year, becausethe dirt factory stock, as it's

(05:20):
called, which is thesteel-bodied metric or leaf
spring-based race car, they racethose on dirt in a factory
stock but they're running on a10-inch asphalt slick pull-off
on a used asphalt tire.
So what Owen has done and thebasis of these rules is stock.
I mean, they don't run that way, but it is stock.

(05:42):
You know, no headers, none ofthat stuff.
What Owen is doing is trying topull, because Owen runs two
different dirt, three differentdirt tracks himself, two
different dirt tracks himself.
So he's trying to pull thatclass over onto the asphalt and
I think if that happens that'sgoing to be a game changer right
there.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
What would prevent that from happening?

Speaker 5 (06:00):
Those factory stocks on dirt Don they race for a lot
of money.
There are $5,000 to wind shows.
Wow, it's crazy.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
Where do they get the money?
Where do they get the?
Where does the promoter get themoney for the, for the?
That?

Speaker 5 (06:15):
kind of purse.
Well, that's where it takes alot of folks just coming
together and wanting to be apart of it and that's where I'm
hoping that that racing can growa little bit.
And I know that money is hardto find but it's it's.
It's so much where local shorttracks are reliant on on we, on
the on the short track community, to to you know your business,

(06:36):
don.
Let's say the three of you guyshad a business.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
We do.
It's called inwheeltimeon.

Speaker 5 (06:41):
Well, no, let's say you individually had a business
like whatever three differentbusinesses, right, and you go to
the race track we're going togo to, or the promoter's going
to go to each one of you and belike hey, you want to sponsor a
whatever class, or do you wantto add to the points fund, or do
you want to make it the inwheel time truck series, or you

(07:03):
know whatever, and that's, andthat's where I'd like to see the
sport grow to, where it it'snot reliant on just us Are the.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
That's what we got to market.
Are the gates similar betweendirt and asphalt?

Speaker 5 (07:16):
Man dirt, they just blow it out of the water, man,
they do.
Oh yeah, those factory stocksthat I'm talking about.
When they have those big $5,000, $10,000 to win shows, they'll
have 60 to 70 cars, wow.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
And so all the families that come with the cars
, they're all in the stands.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
So it is not dogs popcorn.
So Rodney has, as the purseincreased over the years, has
increased from last year'sexample.
No well, it has.

Speaker 5 (07:42):
It fluctuates the purse because that's where you
know.
I may say you know what thisweek I'm going to.
I'm going to add an additional$1,000, not that I would ever do
this, because I don't have thiskind of money.
I'm going to, I'm going to add$1,000 to the modified fund or
something.
That's where it fluctuates, butthat's that's the thing.
Though, when you talk to a lotof people in short track, racing
is to where the cost to do it,no matter the surface, whatever

(08:06):
the cost to do it has gotten alot more expensive, but at a
base purse on a regular Fridayor Saturday night show, you're
still racing for what you raisedfor 25 years ago.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
So that fluctuates so far as the track sponsorship,
the track ownership.
What about the teams and thedrivers?
Obviously they've got toincrease their budgets for their
cars and their tires and theirengine parts and things.
So do you see that as anincrease this year as well?

Speaker 5 (08:30):
Yeah, yeah, because that's that's definitely
something.
Those prices, those prices, they never go stale on the stuff
that you're talking about.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
Well, you're a racer yourself, you know about this
sort of thing.
How about?
You know, I want to get intoracing.
So I know somebody that's got astreet stock and they want to
sell it and I want to buy it.
How much is something like that?
You, you pick the, you pick theseries.
I don't know anything aboutthat, but you pick the series.
Pick a car for me.

(08:59):
How much money do I have tospend?

Speaker 5 (09:01):
I think if you went, like on the asphalt side, or
dirt like on, you remember theEco stocks yeah, there's a four
bangers so they have those onpavement and they have them on
dirt.
So that would be, if you're, ifyou're going to start that
green, if you're going to startgreen, that's where you would
start and there you shouldprobably be looking at 2,500 to

(09:22):
3,000.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
Oh, that's all Okay.
I thought I was going to waitfor you to say well, that's
going to cost you 10 grand, because you know you got to
press that.
I was thinking yeah, you know,I get roll bars and fire suits,
all that stuff.

Speaker 5 (09:31):
Well, and that's where, like these factory stocks
that I'm talking about, andthis is where I mean I'd love to
send you guys the rules andthen send you a video.
You read the rules and youwatch them and then be like how
the hell, but anyway, that'sjust a whole different
discussion.
But what you get into with thestock classes and this is what
kills stock car, street stockracing on pavement, in my

(09:53):
opinion is that you get thesecars where people start purpose
building these things and that'swhere you know you buy a.
You buy a bare frame chassis.
When people want to sell you abare frame chassis, a roller,
for $15,000.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
No, that defeats the whole thing.

Speaker 5 (10:11):
Right, right, yeah, if you want to do that, go race
a truck or something else, butone of those is 25 to 30,000, a
bare roller, and that's whereit's just like.
You know, the sport costs somuch money and it's the downfall
of it all the time, right?

Speaker 1 (10:28):
All I'm thinking of is, you know, by yourself used
maybe a 10-year-old four-bangerprobably going to be some
four-door sedan or something andget out there and run it.
But you got to prep the car.
So you got to first of all yougot to buy the car, then you got
to prep the car and I guessthat there are guys around town

(10:48):
that'll prep the car for you,put in a roll bar and take the
headlights out and that sort ofthing.

Speaker 5 (10:53):
And then you know the bad part about that.
Don not to interrupt you rightthere, but I'll forget if I
don't tell you this.
Yeah, tell me, Is that you getin a class like that?
And let's say, I mean becausethat class is healthy or has
been healthy, Right, let's saythere's 12, like your number, 12
.
Let's say there's 12 of them,but there's like two or three
that are just miles better thaneverybody else.

(11:13):
It's like I mean, that's whereyou know, like with NASCAR, with
this car, where they're tryingto level the field and all that.
Yeah, that's what anentry-level class needs to be,
because if I'm sitting in thestands and I'm thinking about
exactly what you're talkingabout right there, but I go week
after week and it's two dudesthat are winning all the time
and they're just lapping thefield, it's like, why do I want
to suggest that Exactly?

(11:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
I would read the rules first and then go get the
car to find out what myrestrictions are by the book,
and then I would go get the car.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
I don't know if I do that, I think what I'd do is I'd
buy a winning car and that'd bethe end of the story.
Don Armstrong now owns the carthat's lapping the field.
The other is Roddy used to ownit.
Nah, I bought it.

Speaker 5 (11:55):
The other thing to do is kind of a combination of
what you guys are talking about, but kind of like right there in
the middle, read the rules, take the rules to somebody who
knows how to build a car and letthem find the gray area.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.
Then build your car.

Speaker 5 (12:09):
Rub and Dracen, that's what happens.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
Well, okay, so let's talk about the tracks themselves
.
Houston Motorsports Park is onethat's here locally.
What other tracks are youcalling?

Speaker 5 (12:23):
For me this year it'll be obviously Houston.
Then I'll do South Texas RaceRanch over in Corpus Christie.
That's a great dirt track there.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
And how long?

Speaker 5 (12:33):
is that track?
That is a quarter mile.
Quarter mile dirt track.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
Oh my God, it's a little bold yeah.

Speaker 5 (12:40):
It's a little bitty but it's wide, and then
occasionally maybe do some stuffout in Edna at Texana Raceway
Park and that is a great fourtenths of a mile race track and
that is a beauty.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Is that dirt?

Speaker 5 (12:55):
Yeah, that's dirt, they've gone in and new
bathrooms, new press boxes, newconcession stands places greats
out in the middle of nowhere inEdna.
Where is Edna?
Edna is probably about 49 milesthis side of Victoria.
Okay, okay.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
So in other words, we can call it Aunt Edna.

Speaker 5 (13:17):
I always, every time I go to Edna.
Edna is actually Flag City, USA, Just a little tidbit right
there.

Speaker 3 (13:24):
And it's close enough to Houston, they can get the
Houston participants as well.
I mean the fans.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
Yeah, so it's like an hour away.

Speaker 5 (13:32):
Yeah, yeah for you guys it would be.
Yeah yeah, nothing's close forme, no, they're all far.
And then you've got Cotton BowlSpeedway and Page, which is
also dirt.
That's a big three eighths mile.
That's the newest racetrackthat I know of Cotton Bowl
Speedway, isn't that?

Speaker 1 (13:50):
up by Dallas.

Speaker 5 (13:51):
No, no, that's in Page Page.
I don't know where's Page Pageis about halfway between you and
me.
So it's well, it's a littlecloser to me, I would say, but
it's pretty that'd be between.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
Houston and Austin, let's just turn the page on that
one.
Let's turn the page, funny yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
So so the only asphalt is Houston Motor Sports
Park.

Speaker 5 (14:14):
Yeah, Houston, If you want, if you want asphalt, the
other asphalt stuff that I'll dowill be like next week I'm
going back to the Rattler 250 inOp, Alabama.
Then you'll have, of course,Five Flags Speedway, you know,
in Pensacola, Cordill Speedwayin Georgia, Mobile.
So yeah, it's like is mobilestill up and running.

(14:37):
Mobile is off and rolling onceagain and that they've, they've
gone in and they they seem tohave a pretty good program put
together, based off of what Ginaput together there.
I mean, gina, you know, broughtthat place back to life and you
know, I want people to rememberthat.
It's like folks are just goingon and on about how great mobile
is.
Yeah Well, it wasn't for Gina,it would still be in mothballs.
Yeah right.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
Yeah, so.
So basically, uh, houston isabout the only asphalt track.

Speaker 5 (15:03):
Well, besides mobile, well, in texas, yeah in texas.
Yeah, houston is it are thereother tracks that All dirt
you've got everybody else's dirt, everybody else's dirt.
You've got up north in the dfwarea.
You've got so many dirt tracksup there and um, right in
between I always say the equatoris waco, heart of texas

(15:23):
speedway 58 years, 58 years.
They started their racingseason last week again.
Well, um, so you got that.
And then as far down south, ascorpus, everything in between.

Speaker 1 (15:35):
All right.
Well, let's talk about myfavorite uh dirt track Series,
and that would be world ofoutlaws.
I'm sorry, I don't know whetheryou think of it, but I sure
like the excitement of that.

Speaker 5 (15:45):
Yeah, well, you know they were supposed to be racing
in texas last night at um, um uh, kinnadale.
Kinnadale speedway park upnorth rained out both nights.
They were going to do lastnight and tonight, so that's
been rained out.
They are actually going to beat cotton bowl speedway that I
was talking about.
I think that's march 28th and29th.
I may be wrong with?

(16:06):
that, yeah, the page one, yeah, yeah, now that's.
I highly recommend going to you.
You guys should cover that show, because that, that track is so
big guys, that that place, ifit was paved, holy moley, we
have a.

Speaker 1 (16:21):
And what's the name of the speedway Cotton bowl?
Speedway cotton bowl in pagetexas.

Speaker 5 (16:25):
Yeah, check them out.
That's going to be a.
It's a friday.
It's a friday and saturdaynight Twin bill, so I think it's
two nights of world of outlawsthat you're going to have there
and that's right at the end ofthe month.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
Right up your alley buddy.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
Yeah, I don't there's , they just highly recommend.
Yeah, I know it's a, it's athrowback for me and I I love
winged Sprint cars and they'rescary fast and they have some
crazy, crazy wrecks.
They like to roll over all thetime.

Speaker 5 (16:55):
So have you seen?
Have you seen now that they'rekind of doing the same thing?
Asphalt's done.
Now You've got the high limit, high limits, sprint car series,
which is started by brad sweetand Uh uh, kc cane and all them.
It's a sort of a rival to thatum.
So now they're, within a coupleof years, they're going to be
trying to.

(17:16):
It kind of is already somethingwhere guys are having to choose
which series they're going torace in.
But that's more of a midweekseries, I guess, but still, or
10 sprint cars, it's really.

Speaker 1 (17:27):
It's really difficult to go in the middle of the week
somewhere.

Speaker 3 (17:31):
Well, see these drivers, normally they're their
big profession and their bigmonies on the weekends.
They do the weekdays just tostay tuned and keep their keep
their Skill sharp is what it isand they can afford to do it.

Speaker 5 (17:43):
It's like those tuesday night college baseball
game yeah, that's, that's whenyou get your hard work done
middle of the week.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
Yeah got you.
So, rodney, what do you thinkabout honda getting into nascar?

Speaker 5 (17:52):
Hey, we need another oem.
Um, I just, I just assumed thatit was always going to, hoped
that it was always going to bedodge, but it?

Speaker 1 (18:01):
um the problem is the problem with, that is the
engines.
They, they can't keep up, theycan't rev that high.
You know, those engines, the,the configuration of the engine
itself is not conducive to thehigh rpms that they turn.
And, uh, the chevys, and andand the fords.

Speaker 5 (18:20):
Well, now, now, with the new car being essentially a
spec car to where you, you know, single source parts for
everything, I mean you can't.
I mean the engine.
I'm not gonna say it's a crateengine, but but it's pretty much
basically a great engine yeah.
Basically a great engine.
I think it's it's time.
It's time for it to happen andI think honda's a great honda's
a great addition.

(18:40):
In my opinion, um, a lot offolks still are just irritated
and frustrated.
When you mentioned the, theword toyota, and, and it's like,
if you go back and you look atthe advances that have happened
in in Racing development andstock car racing development on
the NASCAR side, it's because oftoyota.
Um, toyota racing developmenthas done so much, um as to where

(19:02):
the you know the bow tie andthe blue oval, you know they
have as well, yeah, they pushthem kind of been picked,
they've been piggybacking off ofwhat they push them to be
better yeah, absolutely,absolutely.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
All right, my friend, it's great talking to you, as
always.
Hey you as well, guys, and bestof luck tonight.
Are you driving in today, because I see that you're?
You're up in austin right now.

Speaker 5 (19:23):
Yeah, I was.
I was supposed to be there lastnight but I had some stuff pop
up, so as soon as I'm done herewith you, I got to cut a couple
audio spots and I'm on the roadeast bounding down in the words
of jerry Well, we love you.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
It's great talking to you.
Let's talk about mid season andsee what's happening.

Speaker 5 (19:38):
That's right, come see us guys.

Speaker 1 (19:40):
You bet.
Thank you, man.
You bet you bye.

Speaker 1 (22:35):
Thank you, and you are on the in-wheel time Talk
show time.
Now for the racing calendarsponsored by.
Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge.

Speaker 3 (22:45):
And we just heard from Rodney.
Rodney's got a lot of stuffgoing for your local racers and
things.
But today, and starting now,we've got NHRA.
It's gonna be on Fox.
Starting today is the pet boys, nhra top fuel all-star call out
in Gainesville, and thentomorrow is the NHRA Gator
Nationals.
So they're gonna be on Fox, it'salso gonna be on Fox, but these

(23:06):
times, like the first one today, is on at 7 pm, so it's
rebroadcast, it's not gonna belive, and then tomorrow again
it's gonna be 9 o'clock.
It's on FS1 actually, but itFox Sports television, so it's
on those channels FS1, fs1 so Ican't see it on broadcast.
No, you gotta get FS1 if you're.
I refuse, I refuse to do it.
I got you.
Nascar is actually at PhoenixRaceway, starts at 3 pm Tomorrow

(23:30):
.
Of course, there was truckraces and the Xfinity is going
on.
Tickets still available, mike,so if you need to go, take your
mom out there.
Formula one, what a debacle.
Debacle is An understatement.
There in Saudi Arabia, Iwatched some of the qualifying.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
Pardon me just a moment, sir.
Have you ever taken your motherto a NASCAR race?
You were taking your mom to arace.
No, no, no, what she would.
Would she know what to do?
I mean, she'd cheer somebody on.

Speaker 2 (23:57):
Let me just say in my younger days she do to call the
police department to find outwhere I was when I used to do a
little.

Speaker 1 (24:03):
We're still doing that, jeff and I.

Speaker 3 (24:06):
You're running late this morning we already had a
APB.

Speaker 1 (24:08):
Yeah, anyway, go ahead.

Speaker 3 (24:09):
Anyway, saudi Arabia, the Formula one, what a debacle
there that they should have letAndretti in, because they just
they keep Bumping intothemselves and ruining the sport
is what it is my opinion.
And then, of course, indycoming up tomorrow, grand prix
of st Petersburg, I love it.
Open wheel on NBC, don't knowwhat time just yet, but it will
be there.

Speaker 1 (24:30):
And uh, you know what mpc stands for, don't you?
Nobody cares.
Okay, all right, that's what.
That is good deal.
Okay, um time now for thishour's car review.
Michelle Mars has the 2020 2024Subaru cross-trek.

Speaker 2 (24:50):
Go ahead, spit it out .
It's 2024 Subaru cross-trekWilderness, which is all-wheel
drive, because that's juststandard on the Subaru's.
This is the third generation ofthis vehicle and it's available
in five different trim levels.
You can get the limited.
You can I mean, excuse me andget the base, the premium, the
sport, then the limited and thenew for 2024, the wilderness

(25:11):
edition.
Now, this is a small suv but, like we were talking with alex
consumer reports earlier, it's.
It doesn't really feel like asmall suv.
It makes their top 10 list, itdoes and in fact on the um and
ronnie we got it says it'sconsumer reports recommended.

Speaker 3 (25:26):
So I like it.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
They like it a lot, I like it too.
So when you look at the outsideof it, on the exterior you're
going to find led lighting allthe way around with the
Responsive headlights that aregoing to be fully follow your
steering and stuff, which Ireally like those kind of things
.
Um, it does have the laddertype roof rails, which I was
surprised to find out that itwill support 700 pounds up there

(25:48):
on the roof of that thing.
I don't think I've ever seenanybody Tought that kind of
level.
So you're going to find theheated side mirrors, got heated
windshield on it.
We had the optional moon roofand the optional 17 inch black
finished alloy wheels, whichlooked really good with the
alpine green paint option thatwe had.
It was a nice lookingcombination and, uh, got a lot

(26:10):
of comments on this vehicle.
So you move into the interior.
We had the star text trimdepulter, which is a synthetic
leather, and the star linkcommunication connected services
that go along with that on the11.6 inch multimedia screen.
So you're going to find yournav, all your convenience
controls, and we also had awireless phone charger, had

(26:31):
front and rear usb so thateverybody in the vehicle could
get plugged in, stay connected.

Speaker 3 (26:37):
I like the dash pod star link yes, I like that.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
We also had the out of the optional cargo cover in
the back that folds out, which Ilike those because things you
got back there keeps them out ofsight, out of mind if somebody
happens to look in there anddecide they like it enough to
want to borrow it from you.
And we had the optionalhardened carbon audio system,
which I highly recommend in thisvehicle because there is a

(27:00):
little bit of it is an off-roadtype vehicle.
It's very off-roading,wilderness set, so it's got a
little bit of road noise on itbut you can blast that smooth
right on out of there and nothave to worry about it.
We also had the 2.5 litersubaru boxer engine.
Now this is the larger enginethat we talked about briefly
when we were talking about alex182 horsepower, 178 pound feet

(27:21):
of torque Not a race car by anymeans, but it's got plenty of
power to do what you want to do.
It's backed by a cvt, but itdoes have an optional 8 speed
manual mode that you can usewith the paddle shifters.
So if you're out really intotrying to do a little Roff
off-roading and you want to pullthat down and try to do a
little manual controls with thetransmission.

(27:43):
You can do that.
You can do some jumps with thatGet some donkey on.

Speaker 3 (27:46):
You can do that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, getsome donkey on.

Speaker 2 (27:48):
And I also was surprised to find out about this
vehicle, because of its size, that it's capable of towing up
to 3,500 pounds, which is almostthe vehicle weight, and 700 and
something on the roof, and then3,500.
I mean, you've got this thingloaded down then.
Now the EPA says the city youshould be looking for about 25,
out on the highway you should belooking for 29 miles per gallon
, so your combined runs out to27.

(28:09):
Now I drove this vehicle 383.3miles, got 25.6.
And I was very happy with thatbecause I really like the
drivability of this vehicle.
You get in it, like we weretalking earlier.
You get in it, you feel good, the doors swing wide so it's
easy to get in.
You feel comfortable, you feelconfident in your driving
position.

(28:30):
I feel, good in anything?
Yes, and the seats are elevateda little bit.
The height's got a high roofline, so you've got it feels
roomier than what it actually isand by the same token, that
also gives you a lot of viewingspace through the glass from the
driver's perspective.
So you've got great driverviews.
Now the base model on thisvehicle is $26,540, which

(28:51):
surprised me again about thepricing on this.
The base trim that we weredriving is $31,995.
And MSRP is $35,955, includinga $1295 destination fee.
If you're looking for somethingthat's also in that category,
you might look over at the FordBroncos Sport $31,230 for the

(29:12):
base.
Jeep Compass is another smallSUV $25,900.
And the Mazda CX-30 comes in at$24,995 in that small, highly
competitive small SUV category.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
