When classic car lovers gather, stories flow as freely as chrome gleams in the Texas sun. From the Lone Star Street Rod Association's 50th Anniversary celebration in Granbury, we discover the human connections behind these metal masterpieces.

Meet Danon Hollinger, who grew up with hot rod magazine fold-outs on her bedroom headboard instead of pop stars. Her gorgeous white 1978 Pontiac Trans Am represents a lifelong dream fulfilled. After years of waiting, she found this beauty through a car club connection – a vehicle with its own poignant history, having been restored for a son who suffered an accident and could no longer drive it. Danon and her husband transformed it with a Tremec five-speed transmission to keep pace with their Houston-area car club on cruises across the country.

Then there's Larry Davidson's showstopping 1960 Ford Ranch Wagon – a chrome-laden masterpiece in striking blue. Originally purchased on eBay while searching for something completely different, Larry explains how station wagons have transformed from demolition derby fodder to highly sought-after collectibles. His ingenious restoration touches include chromed freeze plugs repurposed as decorative "gun sights" on the fenders, demonstrating the creativity that defines true car enthusiasts.

Beyond the vehicles themselves, we explore what makes Granbury worth the drive – from the historic Acton State Historical Site where Davy Crockett's wife Elizabeth is buried to the nostalgic Brazos Drive-In Theater operating since 1952. We round out with automotive headlines including the return of the Hemi V8 to Ram's pickup lineup.

Whether you're a dedicated gearhead or simply appreciate the stories behind beautiful machines, these conversations capture the passion, ingenuity, and community that make car culture so enduring. Join us for more automotive adventures every Saturday morning on Facebook, YouTube, and InWheelTime.com.

don Armstrong, glad you couldjoin us today.
All right, mr Mars, why don'tyou introduce our?

Speaker 3 (00:50):
next guest.
So we have with us right nowthis beautiful 1978 Firebird
Trans Am, and it's owned byDanone Hollinger.
Yes, I got that.
Did I do that right?
Uh-huh.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
All right, danone.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
Uh-huh Like All right .
So she did on like the yogurt.
No, sir, it's not.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Did anybody ever ask you that before?

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Yes, it came from a movie, and I'd rather not.
It's an old Western movie.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
Let's talk about the car.
Yeah, Talk about no, I knowWell.
No, she didn't want to talkabout that.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
So no what's wrong with that?
I mean, she doesn't want totalk about it, but I want to
talk about it, and this is ourshow.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
My mother loved unique names and she saw a movie
a long time ago.
It's called Westward the Womenand in it was Dan On.
Didn't think much of it until Isaw the movie and I came up to
my mother.
I said Mama, you named me aftera prostitute, see, I knew the

(01:47):
movie.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
and you came up to my mother.
I said Mama, you named me aftera prostitute.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
See, I knew the movie and you had to go there, dad,
and I said could you not havepicked another name?
She said it was either that orDallas.
I said I liked it on.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
I do too.
I love it.
I've never heard it before, yeah, and I didn't watch the
movie, so I did not know.
And I'm not going to apologize.
I mean, obviously we can talkabout it.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
I'm a teacher, so I really can't talk too much about
that to my students.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
And they don't know.

Speaker 4 (02:15):
so it's fine, and you can't say it's a family name.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
No, it's not a family name.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Do you have children?

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Yes, I do.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
I got three kiddos.
I got two daughters and a son.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Okay, and their names are Normal names.

Speaker 4 (02:28):
Normal names.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Jessica, katie and Eric yes, yes normal names.
There's normal names.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
I have a Katie also.
Oh, do you, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
I wasn't going to strap my children with that.
No, not like my mother did.
It's all right.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
No, not like my mother did.
It's all right, but she hadgood intentions.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
I'm sure yes, she did .

Speaker 1 (02:45):
She obviously was affected by this woman's part in
the movie let's go withimpressed.
Well, one way or the other, shewas impressed.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
You have to watch it.
It's a very funny old Western.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Is it?

Speaker 2 (02:57):
really.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
It's very funny.
I like it.
So the 78 Pontiac.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Yes, I like it.
Thank you.
So how did you acquire this car?

Speaker 2 (03:07):
So I have been in love with Hot Rod since I was
young.
I wasn't the typical girl thathad singers on their walls.
I had the middle fold out ofthe Hot Rod magazines in my car,
I mean in my house, and I usedto Did you staple them to the
bedroom wall, like my headboard, the headboard I had?
it on my headboard.

(03:28):
There you go, yeah and um.
So I was always in love withcars, but that wasn't something
that I could I could fulfill,you know.
So I had a boy that I reallyliked.
I actually went to school, graduated here in granbury and
really grew up in glenrose but Igraduated here in granbury and
there was a boy that I reallyliked will not say his name and

(03:48):
he had a 69 Camaro, fell in lovewith the car more than I did
the story okay, love the car.
So I grew up I wanted a hot rod.
I really did, couldn't ever do.
It ended up marrying my love ofmy life over here and he had
his own vehicle and I'm like, ohgosh, I want one, I want one.

(04:09):
Well, we've been looking, butthe prices of 69 Camaros are
ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
On teacher's salary.
You can't afford one.
So we were looking around andone of our car club members, his
brother, was selling this TransAm.
This Trans Am had been put up Iforget how long it was put up
For about five years, you saidand he had it in storage.
He redid this car back in the2000s.

(04:35):
He did it all himself, hedidn't put any bondo on it and
it was a hail damage car.
He got all of that out andredid it for his son and his son
had a tragic accident andwasn't able to drive this car.
So it's been in his shop and hewould start it up every so

(04:55):
often and he was like you know,I really need to sell this car
Cut ties with it Cut ties withit.
So he said I just want you to beable to um go ahead and use it
and make it better.
So we went ahead and bought itand we changed up some things on
it and I will never want a 69camaro.

(05:16):
I've fallen in love with thiswith this vehicle you don't see
a lot of them, especially in thewhite with the black decals on
it.
Yeah, yeah um, because it didhave blue decals and we turned
around and changed it out.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
Um, we you know it looks better like this.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
I believe I like it well the, the black insets on
the grill and the other blacktouches on it.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
It looks great like that plus, let's not leave out
the whataburger table tent I wasthinking it took us a while to
get that ate a

Speaker 4 (05:43):
lot of hamburgers At least 77 times and from what to
Whataburger?

Speaker 1 (05:48):
did you steal that?

Speaker 2 (05:49):
from.
We're borrowing it.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Borrowing it.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
You can buy them now.
You can buy them online, youcan Through the.
Whataburger site yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Well, actually, if you turn it in, I think they
give you two Whoppers orwhatever that's a different
burger place, whatever that's adifferent burger place.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Whatever, not going to do that.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
And the honeycomb wheels.
I like that.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Those are the year ones.
Those are the newer ones ofthem.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
Well, it's a beautiful car, you know.
To me the Pontiac Trans Am wasalways a luxury step above the
Camaro, and the Z28 inparticular the Z28, to me, was
more of a race car, not thatthis couldn't keep up with it,
but this always had the luxurytouches in the interior.
So I get where you're comingfrom.
I had a friend of mine that hadone.

(06:30):
I did too.
This is really nice.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
He had a blue one, 77 , I believe they're a little bit
heavier than the Camaro thesame year Camaro, so they ride a
little bit better, I think.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
Even if you get the HD deep parts on it, it still
rides better.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Well, you know, and and this is a 78, yeah, I just
love the car, it's beautiful.
Yeah, they actually drag racethis car.
This car was a drag race car,and so it it.
It.
It has all the suspensionunderneath, that's I mean when
it turns it turns and um so, butit had a four speed in it and
that that couldn't keep up withour car club.
For some reason it would tackout, it would go up into the
4,000.
We couldn't keep up with ourcar club it wasn't a good driver

(07:11):
.
Huh, it wasn't a good driving itwasn't, so we went ahead and
put a Tremec in it, five-speed,so now it cruises.
It keeps up with everybody else.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
Now it's almost like it's got an overdrive in it.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
It does yes yeah, it was getting too hot when we were
trying to drive it with thatfour speed and we'd have to pull
over, and because we wereafraid we were going to do
something does it have the gearin the rear does it have the
original engine it?
Has a pony at 400 yeah in it.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
Nice, yeah, and that's what they were.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
Drag racing they drag race this yes, they Uh-huh.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
Do you drag race?
I don't know.
She looks over there and hesays no, no, I don't drag race.
The insurance man is listening.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
Now my other Camaro that I had, I would race it.
I loved to race cars.
I did when I was growing up andtrashed a few of my parents.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
Where did you get this influence?
Was it from your dad?

Speaker 2 (08:04):
You know what?
Was he a hot rodder?
No, my dad wasn't, it was justI was the youngest of seven kids
and I had okay.
So I love to work, to be aroundpeople who worked on cars.
It's just something that Iloved and so, I don't know, I
just I would rather have hot rodmagazines, that I would.
You know.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
Girly magazines, girly magazines you said you're
a teacher by profession.
Why don't you get involved inteaching an auto class?

Speaker 2 (08:32):
oh, but you know why?

Speaker 4 (08:33):
because I retired oh, you could come on this year,
this year come on retirement.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
I'm I'm early childhood, so I can't do high
school.
I'm not certified to do highschool.
I can't do high school.

Speaker 4 (08:43):
I'm not certified to do high school Certify,
schmertify, but you can do it.
But the hot rod shop, we'llcertify you.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
Exactly the shop for hot rods.
I don't think you have to becertified as a teacher.
I think that you can go underthe radar.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Yeah, no, I'm quite happy being retired so far.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
Good for you.
Yeah, I enjoy it.
So would you guys take it to alot of car shows?

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Yeah, we've gone to Hot August Nights.
We've went all the way out toReno.
We trailered.
Our car club went out to Reno.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
Did you trailer this car here?
Uh-huh.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
We trailered it out to Reno.
Oh yeah, we trailered it here.
Yeah, I mean, we all traileredours, I see.
So this is your baby, she's mybaby, but local shows we will
drive her to.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
We're not going to trailer her, I mean she's not a
trailer, queen.

Speaker 4 (09:33):
We had a discussion about that earlier.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
No, but coming this far, yeah, I don't want to risk
her on Highway 6.
But my husband he has a 48 GMCcthat he's doing a frame off
restoration on beautiful so thisis the one that we take back
and forth to the car shows.

Speaker 4 (09:51):
Currently it's a beautiful car.
So if this is on a trailer, what do you pull it with?

Speaker 2 (09:55):
he has a.
He has a derma no, it's not adually, it's just a
three-quarter ton.
Gmc Sorry for.
Gmc people.

Speaker 4 (10:08):
GMC Duramax.
It's an acronym.
Gmc stands for God MadeChevrolet.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
There we go.
The only way to go is with thePontiac and the GMC.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
Did you know that GMC God Made Chevrolet?
I forgot it.
You didn't have to go too farto try to forget it.
Yeah, I understand.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
But we get a lot of people saying I had one just
like that.

Speaker 4 (10:33):
I had a blue one 77, high school.
He was like the cat's meow whenhe got it.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
Yeah, we enjoy it.
We have a lot of fun.
We do a lot of Christmasparades and things like that.
I decorate up the firebirdparades and things like that.
I decorate up the firebird withlights and all of that do you
do?

Speaker 1 (10:47):
do you do the cleaning, the detailing?
Under the hood and all thatyeah, is the underside as clean
as the engine compartment?
I can't say that.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
I won't say that, all right do you see how low that
is?
Yeah, I have to hook it up toget it in the trailer.
I don't want to have to get upunderneath there to clean it too
.
Okay, well, good.

Speaker 4 (11:03):
That means you can drive it.
Yeah, I got it.
Just drive on clean roads.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
I had a car that I had the underside pinstriped.
I'll never do that again.
Oh, mm-mm.
No, oh yeah, no.
Live and learn, you know.
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
So we do have fun with it.
Great classics.
We're out of Houston.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
Where abouts in Houston, do you live?

Speaker 2 (11:25):
I live in Magnolia, okay, and most of ours are at
Northwest Houston is where ourcar club's at when all the
growth?

Speaker 1 (11:31):
is when they can't build freeways and roadways fast
enough.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
Yes, sir, we have about 900 homes coming in out
there, where our rural area isright now.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
So what main drag strip is out there?

Speaker 2 (11:47):

Speaker 4 (11:48):

Where's your main?
It's FM 1488.
It's 249.

Well, thank you.
So you know, there's a car backhere that Jeff pointed out and
he went.
Oh, because, Jeff is the wagon,he's the wagon man.

(21:19):
So this is a 1960 Ford.
Is it a Galaxy?

Speaker 4 (21:27):
station wagon.
I don't know, I'm verklept.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
Well, it's got a beautiful paint job on it, and
why don't we get our guest overhere?
I was going to say Because he'sbeen hijacked by somebody else.
Mr Mars, if you don't mind, could you get him to come over
here?

Speaker 3 (21:38):
Are we ready for him?
Yes, oh, okay, larry.

Speaker 1 (21:45):
Larry, that's too late.
Larry, you know what?
Because you clearly are such asuperstar, here with that car,
we're going to wait for you for10 minutes.
Okay, so you can get all yourgab fest out of your system over
here with all of your fans, because you have to put the
headset on.
Put that microphone right herein front of your mouth.

(22:07):
There you go, just like that.
So when we get ready, your mouththere you go, just there you go
, yeah, just like that okay, when we get ready to talk to you
, you'll be ready and you'llhave all of this filled up with
your fans well, I know it, Iknow it he knows uh, uh, you
sure you can allow for the timedealing with all that.
Well, I don't know we'll see,mean it's going to be a battle

(22:27):
of the bands.
That's what it's going to be.
But when you pulled in, Ididn't see the car.
All I heard was Jeff going.
Oh my God, I thought you know, there's going to be a riot here,
apparently.
And I turned around and Ilooked.
I thought, oh my God, that caris just awesome.
Well, thank you very much,Thank you that didn't take any

(22:49):
time to get it.
That way did it?
No, a couple of minutes.

Speaker 5 (22:52):
I've owned it since 2007, but yeah, it didn't look
like that when.
I first got it, it was alreadya driver.
I found it on eBay.

Speaker 4 (23:03):
We're going to do the interview now.

Speaker 3 (23:04):
No, we're not.

Speaker 1 (23:05):
This is the tease for the car.

Speaker 5 (23:09):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you found it on eBay.
Found it on eBay.
And back when I was in highschool, my brother and I had to
share a 60 Chevy four-door BelAir six-banger.
Nothing to it, yeah, and so Ialready knew when it come time
to buy another car.

Speaker 1 (23:29):
You wanted something different and big.

Speaker 5 (23:30):
I wanted a station wagon.
I already knew I wanted astation wagon and I was looking
for a 60 Chevy.
And so I'd go on eBay andthey'd either be out of my
budget or projects which Ididn't want.
And so this particular day Ijust got lathed and tapped in a

(23:52):
1960 wagon.

Speaker 1 (23:55):
Is it a Fairlane?

Speaker 5 (23:56):
It's a ranch wagon.

Speaker 1 (23:58):
Ranch wagon.
Yeah, like ranch water, butranch wagon.

Speaker 5 (24:04):
The one that everybody remembers is the
Country Squire.
That's the one that had all thewood on it Right, this is the
cheaper model in the wagonlineup, you know, but I liked it
in that it gave me blank signsto do what I wanted to with it.
You know, just like a big blank.

Speaker 4 (24:19):
Yeah, with the scallops on it.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 5 (24:22):
So anyway, but when I went on eBay and did the 1960
wagon search and I was goingthrough the ramblers and dodgies
and whatnot and I was lookingfor a chevy and this one popped
up and I thought that's got somegood lines to it you know, so
uh and it's massive.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
Does it fit in the?

Speaker 5 (24:42):
garage.
Well, uh, yes, it will, yes, itwill, and uh, uh, barely, I
mean with the garage door down.
I've got about, you know, foot, foot and a half in front and
six inches in the rear.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
Got you.

Speaker 5 (25:01):
All right.

Speaker 1 (25:03):
Well, now this is a tease.
Okay, this is a tease for thebottom of the hour, because
we're going to learn about the60 Chevy station wagon 60 Ford.
Oh, it's a 60 Ford, sorry.

Speaker 5 (25:14):
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (25:15):
yeah, I was looking for a Chevy, but this Ford
popped up, and so obviously youweren't married to the Ford
Chevy brand.
You didn't care, you justwanted something.

Speaker 5 (25:27):
Yeah, this is it All right.

Speaker 1 (25:29):
All right, all right, so you stay with us.
This is the first one.

Jeff Zekin, chief EngineerDavid Ainsley decided to get out
of bed and join us this morning.
It's always good seeing David,we see him like every six weeks
or so.

Speaker 4 (31:47):
No, it's not that often.
Well it seems like.

Speaker 1 (31:52):
I mean David's a pleasure to work with.
He's looking for a place tolive.
Would you like to come and havehim listed with you?

Speaker 4 (31:55):
no, I'm thinking maybe there's a lot of real
estate going on around this lake.
He's a lake kind of guy, he'san outdoors man.
He could probably findsomething cheap around here you
know, there's nothing cheaparound here.

Speaker 3 (32:05):
Half a million, you can find something you can find
a fixer-upper for half a milDavid.
Yeah, yeah, see.

Speaker 4 (32:11):
He's in, I get two.

Speaker 1 (32:13):
All right, Mr Carr, let's talk to our next guest,
please.
It's all yours.

Speaker 3 (32:17):
Well, we were teasing this 1964 Ranch Wagon.
It's owned by Larry Davidson, and this is really a beauty
right here.
So, larry, why don't you tellus a little bit more about it?
So, larry, why don't you tellus a little bit more about
Jeff's going to show it off?
So tell us a little bit moreabout the car, the car.

Speaker 1 (32:37):
So may I, if you don't mind, let me.
He wants to get in it, can heget in it?
There's a fee.
There's a fee.

Speaker 5 (32:46):
He's got deep pockets .
Go ahead, Jeff.
Yeah, yeah, Go ahead, you knowmaybe Ginger ahead, Jeff.

Speaker 1 (32:52):
Yeah, yeah, Go ahead.
You know Gingerly Jeff.
So what motor does it have init, Does it?

Speaker 5 (32:58):
have the original motor.
No, no, the old Y-block.
It's gone.
It used to have a 292 Y-blockin it, but whenever I got it it
already had the engine swap.
It's got a 351 winther in itand a C6 automatic.

Speaker 3 (33:16):
So it's been updated.
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (33:19):
Does it have air?

Speaker 5 (33:20):
conditioning no, no, why.

Speaker 1 (33:23):
Why are you not putting air conditioning in it?
You know, vintage air makes itreally a great system.
I think they're here somewhere.

Speaker 5 (33:29):
I know, don't let Rick Love hear this are really a
great system.
I think they're here somewhere,I know Don't let Rick Love hear
this it used to and it wascausing the motor overheat even
going down the highway down I-35.
And so for now I just took itall out and I've got to work on
that.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
But that's a future project, future project, fair
enough, fair enough that wouldbe a winter time project in the
garage, because, you know, inthis heat, no, I'm good.

Speaker 5 (34:00):
Yeah yeah, absolutely .
Oh, you don't need air andtaxis.

Speaker 1 (34:03):
Come on.
Yeah, exactly so.
A 1960 ford ranch wagon, andyou were mentioning earlier that
the Ranch Wagon is the cheaperversion.
The Ranch Wagon is the cheaperversion of the what wagon.

Speaker 5 (34:19):
Well, the Country Squire is the one that everybody
remembers and I have a pictureof the Country Squire in my home
office.

Speaker 4 (34:29):
I have a picture, two little pictures my son gave me
of the Country Squ uh, twodifferent colors with the wood
grain so so, larry, we have aquestion from the audience about
how wide that car is takes upthe entire 10 foot lane.

Speaker 5 (34:44):
You know, I don't know, on the width Big, I would
like to put it up against one ofthose Tesla trucks you know.

Speaker 4 (34:58):
Oh the.

Speaker 5 (34:58):
Cyber.

Speaker 3 (34:59):
Oh, it's wider than that.

Speaker 4 (35:01):
Hummer Generation 1.

Speaker 3 (35:03):
I'm thinking your Grills-wise is that Tesla truck?

Speaker 5 (35:05):
But I do know this it in 1960.
Nothing off of a 59 or 69, I'msorry, a 59 or 61 fits a 1960
really one year.
It is a one year only and whatonly?

Speaker 1 (35:25):
what is it that doesn't fit the grill?

Speaker 5 (35:27):
pretty much everything uh the only thing?
Uh, well, of course, uh, uh.
59 is a lot narrower andshorter.
I've also got a 59 two-doorwagon and one day I butted both
of the front bumpers up againstthe inside wall, put the garage
door down and measured from therear bumper to the wall off each

(35:48):
one.
Uh, this one was, uh eightinches longer, but I haven't
measured the uh, the width of it.
But in 1960, um uh, thegovernment basically said you
made it too wide.
Uh, if you keep it up, a lot ofstates are going to require

(36:08):
running lights if it was a truck.
So in 61, it was obvious.
In 61 they did narrow it.
The only thing that theycarried over from 60 to 61 was
the dash gauge cluster.

Speaker 1 (36:23):
I have to ask you not to interrupt.
But what are these littlebullet things up on the top of
the fenders in the front?

Speaker 4 (36:32):
Oh yeah, for turn signals.

Speaker 5 (36:34):
They're called the gun sights, and originally those
had just a clear plastic insertin it with a four-pointed gold
star.
Well, eventually, through theyears, years, that plastic would
craze or just get brittle andget busted out and whatnot.

(36:56):
So, uh, when it comes time towhen I first got the car, there
was just nothing there exceptfor a hollow ring, the outside
ring.
And when I first got it, uh,well, but when it come time to
paint the car, my painter and Iwas discussing what to do with
it.
Now you can get the replacementreproductions reproduction.

(37:21):
Thank you, inserts, but theseare actually freeze plugs.
I'll be darn inch and 7-8freeze blood that have been
chromed and epoxy get in there.
A lot of people think thatthey're peep mirrors, but
they're so far out there they'reuseless as a mirror.

Speaker 3 (37:41):
Well, I mean you can tell they're very.
I mean because they're polishedenough.
I can see his reflection.

Speaker 4 (37:45):
There's like $18 million worth of chrome on this
car.
Don look down the side.

Speaker 5 (37:57):
If you could down from my vantage point there is
that car is glass all the wayfrom this front fender all the
way back down.
I know no, no windshield wipers.

Speaker 4 (38:00):
Rainax is my best friend sometimes don if you open
the door it smells like a 63wagon but look at, yeah, but
look at how wide the seats are.

Speaker 3 (38:09):
I mean, three adults could ride in that comfortably.

Speaker 5 (38:12):
Three.

Speaker 3 (38:13):
Four, Four yeah.

Speaker 5 (38:15):
Well, actually this is in 60, well, other years too,
but they had six passenger andnine passenger.
This one was originally a ninepassenger, meaning that it had
the third rear seat, butwhenever I got it it was gone.
It was history, so, but yeah, actually, back on the gun sight

(38:43):
on one of them.
They didn't polish out the inchand 7-8s that were stamped in
it.

Speaker 1 (38:50):
You can still faintly see the inch and seven eights,
uh, but, uh, but yeah so haveyou tried to find the?
The back seat.
Was the back seat, the one thatlooked out?

Speaker 5 (39:00):
the back, yeah yeah, man, I sure would like to have
that well, you know, it wasn'tthat big a deal for me, and then
I kind of of liked having thecargo area back there too.

Speaker 1 (39:14):
Yeah, yeah.
And so yeah, and was it youridea to put the mirrored half
sleepy eyes on it?

Speaker 5 (39:24):
They were already the headlight covers.
They were already on itwhenever I bought it.

Speaker 1 (39:30):
Well, it's hard to actually even tell because
there's so much chrome on thefront of it.

Speaker 5 (39:33):
I didn't notice until you mentioned it, but it's
obvious now yeah, yeah, it'sbeen lowered, uh, three inches
all the way around does it needto be lowered?

Speaker 1 (39:42):
my god, the thing is a tank uh, yeah, and I look cool
well it does.
His shirt is even sort of ablend.
He's kind of like doesn't uhoverpower.
Well, it does look cool, Allright.

Speaker 4 (39:50):
So there he is His shirt is even sort of a blend.
He's kind of like doesn'toverpower the match, but he's
you know color coordinated withhis car.

Speaker 1 (39:55):
My next question is the skirts.

Speaker 5 (39:58):
Yeah, fender skirts Wagons didn't come with skirts.
They were just for the Galaxiesand the sportier models.

Speaker 1 (40:05):
Did it fit the fender ?

Speaker 5 (40:08):
Same exact skirt.

Speaker 3 (40:09):
Same exact skirt same , so the wheel opening is the
same, yeah yeah and uh.

Speaker 5 (40:13):
All I had to do is just put a couple of uh pegs in
the uh clip on.
Uh, now there's these skirts.
Uh, they're still have thelocking mechanism, but you had
to have a couple of pegs inorder to line them up and give
them something otherwise theywould pivot on you.

Speaker 4 (40:30):
Yeah, the wheels are those Detroit wheels.
They make those in Detroit, don't they that particular wheel
?
There's a company in Detroit.

Speaker 5 (40:38):
Yeah, yeah, these are actually original station wagon
wheels.
They're 14-inch, and how youcan tell is that there's no
slouch where the center meetsthe rim.

Speaker 4 (40:57):
And for whatever reason, it's just a solid steel
wheel.

Speaker 5 (41:00):
It's a solid steel wheel.
Yeah, I'll be darned and Iwanted 14s just.

Speaker 1 (41:05):
Because you wanted those white whites on.
There is what you wanted.

Speaker 5 (41:08):
Well, whenever I found it on eBay, it had
American mags on it and blackwalls and big lures.

Speaker 1 (41:18):
No, no, this is too good.

Speaker 5 (41:22):
And whenever I first saw the car I thought man, that
thing needs some white walls.

Speaker 1 (41:26):
Yeah, it does.

Speaker 5 (41:27):
And so I've come up with wheels, and originally the
car was silver, but the dash andall the window bezels, they
haven't been repainted, they'rethe same color as when I bought
it, and so to me the silver andthe blue didn't really click.

(41:51):
But I drove it like that for oh, I don't know seven years or so
.

Speaker 4 (41:57):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (41:58):
But the first thing I did was put the wheels on.
I had them painted blue tobring that blue back out that
was on the dash and everythingthat was on the dash and
everything.
And then, when it come time topaint it, well, the only reason,
one reason I went ahead and hadit painted, is every time I'd

(42:20):
wash it for a show, I'd eithersee an existing rust blister get
worse or a new one pop up.

Speaker 2 (42:28):
It's like, okay, you've got to do something here
and pop up.

Speaker 5 (42:33):
Yeah, it's like, okay , you've got to do something
here, you know.
So I told my painter, ratherthan repaint uh the dash and all
the uh interior, uh trim pieces, let's just go ahead and paint
it blue.
And it ended up being a luckydecision, I mean no, it wasn't.

Speaker 1 (42:45):
You can't tell people that you got.
To say I recently I wanted thatcolor because, I'll be honest
with you, my sister had a carsimilar in color.
It was a ford station wagon.
I don't remember what make itwas, yeah, but it was that close
to that color.
So ford had a color that wasclose to that back in the day,

(43:08):
just say I've heard that.

Speaker 5 (43:09):
I've heard that, uh, and I really haven't researched.

Speaker 4 (43:13):
Would you ever sell?

Speaker 5 (43:13):
it Would I no.

Speaker 1 (43:17):
If I offered you $500,000 for that car, I bet
you'd sell it.

Speaker 5 (43:23):
Keith.
You're in it, keith, yeah.

Speaker 1 (43:28):
So when you pull into a show like this and you've
never been people don't know whoyou are.
Do they come running to youwith?

Speaker 4 (43:35):
throngs.
Well, he parked it and folkswere gathering around Right.

Speaker 5 (43:39):
They really do.
Yeah, there's a lot ofrubbernecking, which I think is
cool.

Speaker 4 (43:43):
It is very cool.
Well, it turned me around whenhe pulled in.

Speaker 1 (43:46):
Yeah, well, I will tell you that there was a day
when station wagons were notcool.
The funny thing about it istoday they are the hot thing.
You can't find them anywhere.
People are snapping them upleft and right.

Speaker 4 (44:01):
It's the original sport utility.

Speaker 1 (44:03):
It is actually.

Speaker 5 (44:03):
Yeah, yeah.
Well, a lot of them either werecrushed or ended up in
demolition derbies.

Speaker 4 (44:10):
Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah .

Speaker 5 (44:12):
And then crushed or parts cars, yeah, yeah and uh,
oh yeah, uh, but uh, yeah, I've,I've had a lot, a lot of fun
with this car a little scooterin the back of it, I did yep
yeah, um, that is.
They called it a jet mobile andit was made here in Texas from
1946 until 1948 out of World WarII practice bombs and the

(44:40):
demise of them was that theywere so simple that a lot of
people just running down to theArmy surplus store and getting
an auto bomb and welding abicycle seat to it and making
your own steering and put anaxle in the rear.
They had the same thing.
You know, I've only seen aboutmaybe five out in the wild true

(45:05):
jet mobiles.
You know I had one guy up at theinvasion in Dallas.
He knew what it was and heapproached me and said he has
one that's never been ridden on.
It was in an old Macy'ssomewhere and when they got

(45:25):
finished displaying it in theirtoy department they put it up in
the attic and's where it's set.
Until he got it.
They were originally a redoxide primer with a yellow uh
decal on them that said jetmobile.

Speaker 1 (45:42):
But it's very nice, so is this your first time?

Speaker 5 (45:44):
here.
No, I used to be a director forLSSRA on three different time
periods, and so, yeah, I've beenbehind the curtains and in
front of the curtains here atthe state run.

Speaker 1 (46:01):
Well, this is absolutely fabulous.
Well, thank you, congratulations, and I mean that
sincerely.
It's a beautiful car.

Speaker 5 (46:08):
It's a driver.
I've driven it to Californiafour times and Michigan twice,
but you've done such a good jobwith it.

Speaker 1 (46:14):
I mean really Thank you.
As you know, in this businessyou can go any direction that
you want, but to come up withsomething like this, the
subtlety of it actually standsout.
The striping is perfect, eventhe pinstriping on the hood and
I'm not a pinstriping guy, butit works for that car.
That is not just a regular sign, that is a billboard of

(46:37):
magnitude right there, it's huge.

Speaker 5 (46:40):
Yeah, it is.

Speaker 4 (46:42):
How much does it weigh?
Do you know?

Speaker 5 (46:44):
Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (46:46):
A lot yeah.

Speaker 5 (46:48):
It depends on if it rolls across your foot.

Speaker 1 (46:51):
What does it got about it?
How big is the gas tank?
20 gallon, 20, yeah, 20 gallons, yeah yeah, and uh, and I'll
bet it sucks it down just asgood as it goes in.
I get about 15, 15 that'saverage for today's cars, you
know and uh, so yeah well, larry, it's great to talk to you.
Thank you so much for lettingus debut your car here.

Speaker 2 (47:12):
Thanks for having me.

Speaker 1 (47:13):
Yeah, this is going to be one of those that people
are going to go.
Ooh, I want to look at that.

Speaker 5 (47:17):
I'm going to talk to the guy.
I'll need some help to back itback out because of all the
crowd.

Speaker 4 (47:27):
Give us just a minute .

Speaker 1 (47:28):
I don't know Mars, is he capable of doing that?

Speaker 4 (47:32):
I don't know if Mars, is he capable of doing that?
I don't know if I trust him.
I think I should do it for him, just in case.

Speaker 1 (47:35):
Yeah, no, I wouldn't do it if I were you.
Yeah, okay, you back it out now, guys, give us a minute, we'll
help you.

Speaker 3 (47:40):

Speaker 4 (49:42):
No, that's an Oldsmobile, is it?

Speaker 1 (49:44):
I think it looks like an Oldsmobile.
Yeah, okay.

Speaker 4 (49:46):
Buick is this many words?
I think that's an Oldsmobile, okay, well, whatever the case
may.

Speaker 1 (49:50):
It's gorgeous.
I like it.

Speaker 4 (49:51):
Yeah, beautiful.

Speaker 1 (49:52):
Different.
Okay, time now for thecruise-in and events calendars.
We got a cruise-in going on.

Speaker 4 (49:57):
Yeah, we got a cruise-in going on right now.
If you're not here you shouldbe Plan for next year for the
51st.
It's great, there's a lot to doin the city, but next week,
next Friday actually, is BiffBusby Hot Rod Cruise-In in.
That's June 20th, from 6 pm to10 pm.
It is at 12702 Topperwine Roadin San Antonio.

Biff's Busby's and get a foodsubstance.
You get a hamburger or whateverthe case for that.
Then down the 21st to Saturday, you got coffee and cars

That is month with gene messerford.

(50:40):
That is in lubbock, texas, incase you're out in the panhandle
, it's every third saturday ofthe month.
That's from 8 to 10.
Then you got pistons on thesquare at georgetown historic
downtown on the 21st, which is asaturday, and that goes from 8
to 10.
Uh, gathering of unique classiccars, muscles, all that good
stuff, even motorcycles, from 10to 8 to 10 am.
And then of course we've got uh, crosby car and Truck Show the

Crawfish Shack Restaurant isover there at 5822 FM 2100 in

(51:02):
Crosby Crosby.
I should say not Crosby Crosby, hosted by Mike's Jewelers and
the Crawfish Shack, both theCrosby, texas establishments.
There, everything is donated tothe Crosby Education Center.
So do that.
That's about it, all right.

Speaker 1 (51:21):
Mr Marr has put together a little feature called
Driving Destinations and guesswhat we got him?
Today he's doing Granbury,texas.
And it looks as though you'vegot a guest, are we?

Speaker 3 (51:33):
going to intertwine the two.
Well, I kind of thought thismight be a nice lead-in, a
lead-in, lead-in.
Okay, segue, okay, well, so byhaving her here now.

Speaker 1 (51:42):
You know you're going to get graded on all this.
Actually, you better make itright.
Here you go.
Driving destinations, mr morris.

Speaker 3 (51:48):
speaking of segues, one of the things you can do
that you may not have heardabout yet, you can do a segue
tourway tour of downtownGranbury.
You know it's easy and thegreat thing about this, not only
does it move fairly quickly butyou've got guides that's going
to tell you all the historicaltidbits and some of the stories
Historical Theoretically.
Even if you're a first-timeSegway rider, they can make it

(52:10):
work for you and for the ladies.
You can go find the granberrydollhouse museum now.
This is where you're going tofind 6 000 dolls you're not
allowed down there well, mycourt order says I can't go down
there.
Exactly right, I was gonna letyou go down there for me, yeah,
no uh, so there, um, the dollsare set up in miniature scenes
with a lot of detail and ifyou're really into the dolls,

(52:32):
and particularly if you've gotyoung ladies with you children
that would be a great place totake them to.

Speaker 1 (52:36):
Oh my God, I think you need to go to the next item
on your list.

Speaker 3 (52:40):
That's the Granbury Hike and Bike Trail to Hewlett
Park.
Now this is an historic parkwaythat kind of goes and brings
everybody to the park along thelake.
Now it's stroller-friendly,it's got shaded areas on it,
You've got some wildlife andthere's parks along the way that
the kids can play.

Speaker 1 (52:57):
There's wildlife right here on the End.
Wheel Time Car Talk Show.

Speaker 3 (52:59):
All you got to do is get here Now across the highway
from us, right here by the mainthing is the Granbury City Beach
Park.
Now, this is close to thedowntown square and it's across
the highway, kind of sort offrom Hewlett Park and it's right
on the lake.
It's got a place where you canbuild sandcastles, picnics, you
can go swimming, kayaks All ofthat's out there and just right

(53:21):
across the street from us.
Then you can go.
And this is one I thought wasreally interesting the Acton
State Historial Site.
Did I say that correctly?

Speaker 4 (53:27):
We went through Acton .
We went through Acton.
Yeah, we did, yeah, well, therethere's an.

Speaker 1 (53:30):
Acton Methodist Church, across the street from
the Acton Baptist.

Speaker 4 (53:34):
Church, which is down the street from the Acton
Catholic Church.
Are they all the same?

Speaker 1 (53:38):
preacher.

Speaker 2 (53:39):
I think they're different, but you know we've
got a lot of really faithfulpeople here in town Really.
So lots of places for people togo.

Speaker 3 (53:44):
Okay, did you see the cemetery?
We did, that's a statehistorical site.

Speaker 1 (53:49):
You know what?

Speaker 3 (53:55):
I'm headed in that direction as quick as I could
get there.
Well, pay attention when you goby, because this is the
smallest state historical sitein the state of texas and this
is where elizabeth crockett, wife of davy's wife is buried
and they have a nice statue anda nice monument there and, uh,
they've got a crockett king ofthe wild frontier.
We're not sure what he did.
He didn't spend a lot of statein the land of the free, sorry.

Speaker 1 (54:14):
So if you're a history buff, that's a good
place to go.
And uh, you're not sure what hedid with his money.

Speaker 3 (54:15):
He didn't spend them on singing lessons, Sorry.
So if you're a history buff, that's a good place to go, and
also the Ghost and Legends NightTour.
Now this is where you can godown through historic downtown
after dark, which Don's notallowed to.
Court order says he can't godown there after dark and, Kay,
it takes you around where you'regoing to find out about John
Wilkes Booth and his connectionto the town.

Speaker 4 (54:36):
Oh boy, wow, Did not know that.

Speaker 3 (54:38):
Well, we have an expert here.
We're going to ask him.
All right, I'm not going todwell on it.
Also, if you're looking forsomething else to do, that's
kind of unique.
The Brazos Drive-In MovieTheater yeah, now, this is one
of the last remainingoperational drive-in movie
theaters.
Since 1952 this thing's beengoing on Shows, double features
and families and you can go outand sit in your lawn chairs with

(55:00):
blankets.
We did that in New Brunsville'slast year ago on the Hot Rod
Tour.
It was really nice weather youcould sit out there, it was
really nice.

Speaker 4 (55:08):
This ain't that.
No, it was cold, if I remember.

Speaker 3 (55:10):
No, but it's hot now.
So, uh, that's some few thingsthat you can do in granbury that
might not be on their main tourlist.
Well, you know what?

Speaker 1 (55:19):
we're gonna have to get the judgment from the judge
over here on whether how wellyou did so.
Don't be bragging just yet, okay well, I may not be able to
later no, you might not, soyou're going to be our guest at
the top of the hour.

Speaker 3 (55:35):
Perfect.

Speaker 1 (55:36):
She's the spokesperson for Granbury this
year.
Tammy is out doing gallivantingaround somewhere else.

Speaker 3 (55:42):
Family business, family business.

Speaker 1 (55:44):
Okay, all right, so I've got a couple of headlines I
want to get to you, If I canfind them.
Ah yes, here they are.
Protesters destroyed five Waymorobo-taxis amid political
unrest in LA on June the 8th,prompting fresh questions about
the role autonomous vehiclesplay during troublesome times.

(56:04):
Video footage showed protestersspraying graffiti on the
vehicles and smashing theirwindows and windshields.
Black smoke filled the skies.
Demonstrators set the Waymos onfire.
Black smoke filled the skies.
Demonstrators set the Waymos onfire, and they are Jaguar
I-PACE electric vehiclesupfitted with autonomous driving
tech.
A blaze.
According to multiple mediareports, one person appeared to

(56:26):
use a makeshift flamethrower totorch at least one of the
vehicles.
According to the Los AngelesTimes, waymo said June 9th it
has suspended its autonomousride-hailing service because
they've run out of cars.
It's not why, but I'd made thatup.
Do?

Speaker 4 (56:40):
you know how the Waymos got there.
The protesters took the Waymoto the protest and then
destroyed the car.

Speaker 3 (56:46):
Did they?
I thought they called them up.
No, some of them took them.
Some of them took them there.
You have to order them upbecause there's no driver.

Speaker 1 (56:52):
Some of them took them there.
You have to order them upbecause there's no driver.

Speaker 4 (56:56):
Yeah, and you jump in and you say I want to go to
this particular street, I wantto go to the intersection of
Mars and Armstrong.

Speaker 3 (56:59):
Yeah, pick me up at Mars and Armstrong and I'm going
to firebomb you when you getthere, and then when you get
there.

Speaker 1 (57:04):
We're going to get out and set your car on fire
yeah.
Amazing.
Now to something completelydifferent.

I think that's pretty much allof them.
The engine's available as a$1,200 upgrade.
Delivers 395 horsepower, 410pound-feet of torque.
Ram CEO Tim Kaniskes made theHemi's return a priority when he
came back to the brand inDecember after Carl, the

(57:48):
then-CEO, resigned.
He didn't resign, he got fired, just saying yeah, I know we're
kind of brutal at times here onthe In Real Time Show.
Some of us.
What are you then?
I'm not brutal, you're not no,mars is Never.

(58:09):
And not only that, but he hangsout where the dolls are around,
oh boy, 6,000 of them 6,000dolls.
You know that's something thatyou'd find the family cat parked
in the middle of them and allyou could see all the dolls.
And then all of a sudden youlook closer, there's a cat.

Speaker 4 (58:24):
There's Larry the Cat .

Speaker 1 (58:25):
Larry the Cat, it's one of those.
You've seen those on Facebook, haven't you?
