Good morning.
So um, Scott.
Guys can hear me okay?
Yeah, we're doing well.
How are you?
SPEAKER_03 (01:22):
Uh it's a little,
you know, for October, it's 89
degrees.
SPEAKER_02 (01:27):
Are you up in the
Dallas area?
SPEAKER_03 (01:30):
I am close to
Denton, so yes.
SPEAKER_02 (01:32):
Okay, very good.
All right, so for everybody thatdoesn't know, let's talk about
the Texas Muscle Car ClubChallenge.
And um, this is a drag racingevent that actually several of
them that you guys have puttogether at drag strips, mainly
across Texas.
Am I correct?
SPEAKER_03 (01:53):
Correct.
We only have one in Oklahoma,uh, but everything else is in
Texas.
SPEAKER_02 (01:57):
Okay.
And so and and generallyspeaking, these are eighth mile
tracks, correct?
unknown (02:05):
Yes.
SPEAKER_03 (02:06):
So what we the only
uh the only one we have that's
quarter mile in Texas would bethe motorplex at Ennis.
Um in Oklahoma, we've raced itThunder Valley.
Um that's quarter mile also.
SPEAKER_02 (02:21):
Now, do you run the
quarter mile?
It just the track is a quartermile, and you just run the
eighth?
How does that work?
SPEAKER_01 (02:34):
Is he frozen up?
SPEAKER_02 (02:36):
Scott, can you hear
us?
SPEAKER_01 (02:38):
Uh oh, no?
SPEAKER_02 (02:39):
Well, okay.
Well, Mr.
Morris, I'm gonna let you uhhandle that.
Um uh we don't have anything todo with that on this end.
That is probably his cell phonesignal, I would imagine.
So um we will let you take careof that if you don't mind, sir.
SPEAKER_00 (02:54):
Yes, sir.
Oh, you guys are bad.
SPEAKER_02 (02:56):
There he is.
Yeah, he he he's gonna have toredial us up.
Okay.
All right.
Uh Mike, I'm I'm gonna let youtake take care of that.
Um it says here the Texas MuscleCar Club Challenge Series.
The goal of it is to provide aracing venue for people who want
(03:17):
to race for fun.
It's a club against a club eventthat races for points.
Uh challenge committeerepresenting the clubs will meet
periodically and decide how manyraces to run each year, where to
run, the structure of theprogram, and the rules.
And these are basically friends.
Yeah.
Um buddies.
SPEAKER_01 (03:38):
Yeah.
SPEAKER_02 (03:38):
And they they go to
these different events as
friends and they race againsteach other.
SPEAKER_01 (03:43):
And it's better than
the street.
You see these TV shows aboutstreet racing and all the bad
stuff that happens after that, and then the city's alone.
So that's good.
SPEAKER_02 (03:50):
Yeah, appreciate it.
Yeah, the the the streettakeovers and stuff like that.
This is not that.
Um, this is legit stuff uh withtime slips uh that they hand out
after the end of each run.
And uh, hey, look what I did.
I beat you by you knowtwo-tenths of a second, whatever
the case may be.
Yep.
So, at any rate, uh Texas MuscleCar Club Challenge.
(04:12):
They sponsor one of our segmentson the program.
And um anyway, it's good stuff.
So I did want to mention to you,and you probably heard the
commercial already, and we'regonna repeat it a couple of
times during the rest of theshow.
Um, there was a throw-downtailpipes and tacos event that
was scheduled for October the18th, and it is still scheduled.
(04:34):
Yeah, and this is going to be atthe Lupi Tortilla Tex-Mex out in
Katy, which is the only placefor tailpipes and tacos, and
it's coming up on October the18th.
And I tell you this because wetypically will be there for all
of the tailpipes and tacosevents.
Uh Stan and Chase and the wholegang out there at the lupi
(04:57):
tortilla out there.
But this particular event wewill not be at because we had
already committed to anotherremote broadcast for the Spring
Branch uh high schoolfoundation.
And we are going to be at thatevent while this event is taking
place.
So you got your choice.
You can either go to Tailpipesand Tacos or the Spring Branch.
(05:17):
With or without us.
Yeah, with us or without us.
Uh either way, it's going to beon October the 18th, so I
believe that's three weeks fromtoday.
Right.
Yeah.
Uh that's coming up.
Um, and if you'd like moreinformation uh on the Loopy
event, uh go to uh Tailpipes andTacos and you can get the or you
(05:38):
can go to Inwheeltime.com aswell and get the information
there.
Or you could go to both.
SPEAKER_01 (05:45):
You could start it
at one and end at the other.
And you never know.
You never could very well dothat.
And I think there's gonna be aducks and show.
SPEAKER_02 (05:51):
No, a dash hound.
A dash hound show a dash houndshow.
Don't say that too fast tooquickly.
Okay.
Um Mike's working on the guest.
Is he?
Okay, well, we don't have anycontrol over that, so we're just
going to kind of move on.
All right.
Um, I had a story that I wasgoing to originally use our
(06:15):
story of the week, and thenanother one came up that I
changed it out.
But this is kind of a part twoof our story of the week.
Late model used vehicles, someof the most profitable for
franchise dealerships, areharder to secure in 2025.
Competition for a smaller amountof that inventory stays strong,
(06:36):
however.
In response, some dealershipsturn to their service department
as a potential internal goldmine for those used vehicles.
If you've taken your car to acar dealership here of late,
chances are you've beenapproached by someone within the
car dealership and says, Hey,want to sell your car?
Well, dealers have been findinginventive ways to source
(06:59):
pre-owned vehicles for severalyears.
The pandemic and subsequentsemiconductor shortage curtailed
new vehicle production.
That resulted in fewer U.S.
sales and in particular newleases.
And that in turn led recently toa shortage of off-lease vehicles
returning to dealership lots astrade-ins.
Some dealership managers saidthe service drive is one way to
(07:22):
find inventory at theirfingertips to supplement what
they can't find as frequently inother channels.
It's uh it's an interestingthing that they have discovered.
And hey, we've got all thesepeople coming to the service
department.
They're coming to us with usedcars.
Why not say, hey, we can makeyou a deal?
SPEAKER_01 (07:44):
So that's what it's
just coming to life, but that's
been around a while.
Because you know, now you cansell your car without buying
one.
So that's how that all started.
And I agree.
They used to do that when I wasuh working at dealerships, they
would they would do that.
Hey.
But you're a lot younger thanme.
By a whole lot.
SPEAKER_02 (08:00):
Oh yeah.
Years.
Decades.
Uh it's a full commitmentaccording to Jim Farkas,
executive management manager ofuh preferred auto dealerships in
Grand Haven, Michigan.
I wonder if he's anyrelationship to Scott Farkas.
SPEAKER_01 (08:14):
I don't know.
SPEAKER_02 (08:15):
Farkas introduced
preferred auto dealerships uh to
sourcing more out of theirservice drives in 2025 after
honing the strategy at aprevious dealership group.
What matters most isestablishing consistency, he
said managers should designateemployees to work that process
with regularity while settingclear goals for how many used
(08:36):
vehicles need to be acquired.
A dealership sourcing 8% of itsoverall used vehicle retail
inventory each month from itsservice customers, for example,
would be rocking it, he said.
Yeah.
So when you go in there and youmay or may not be ready for uh a
trade or a new car or to get ridof your car, but it might be
(08:57):
something to consider, especially if you got, you know,
35,000, 40,000 miles on it andit's uh either uh off-lease or
it's not an off-lease and youare making payments on it, you
might be able to bump up forjust a few dollars more.
SPEAKER_01 (09:10):
Not only that,
you're in there for service.
So is the car paid off?
Are you upside down on it?
Is the repair more than thevalue of the car?
There's all that to considerthat these sharp salespeople
will put that into apresentation and get you into a
new car.
SPEAKER_02 (09:24):
I had a friend of
mine that uh actually had a
vehicle and they were havinglots of trouble with and they
had taken it in for well, theythey were going to trade it in
or sell it to uh Carmax.
And the guy at the dealershipsaid, Hey, I'll give you two
(09:45):
thousand dollars more thanCarmax will.
So she brought the the paperfrom CarMax and said, This is
what we're gonna offer you.
She says, Here you go, here'sthe extra money.
And they bought the car, theused car, and got her a new car.
SPEAKER_01 (09:59):
There's even a
commercial where the guy, the
Carvana, where you buy in yourcar or they come pick it up.
SPEAKER_02 (10:03):
There's there this
is a big promotion, big
marketing is and I have to tellyou, speaking of Carvana, there
was a time when Carvana came totown and they put up the big
vending shoes.
They're still up, they're stillup.
They're not building themanymore because they're very
expensive.
But um, Carvana has actuallyturned the corner and are
actually doing quite well.
(10:24):
So uh there are a lot of otherused car retailers out there
that haven't made it.
Vroom for one other shut down, and then uh there was Texas
Direct that shut down, gotbought up by somebody else, and
it was it it the whole used carth car thing just kind of
evolved to what it is today.
SPEAKER_01 (10:45):
But it's it's not an
easy process, even to Carvana.
There are a lot of things, a lotof hoops you gotta jump through,
and there's a lot of fine printthat you have to read before
buying or selling a car to them.
If you buy a car from them, youhave to have certain things
required by them through theiroutfit for insurance and things.
Uh, and then you you go throughthe steps to sell your car or to
(11:08):
buy your car.
If you want it delivered, yougot to do certain steps to have
it delivered.
If you want it picked up, yougotta go through certain steps
to have it delivered.
SPEAKER_02 (11:13):
Yeah, they make it
sound so easy on the
commercials.
There's there's there are thingsthat you have to do.
Jump through this hoop, and bythe way, we're gonna set it on
fire when you jump through.
So when when you sold yourCadillac, did you trade it in?
Uh I did.
You traded it in for the for theBuick.
Yeah, yeah.
Okay, yeah.
How was that process?
Pretty simple.
SPEAKER_01 (11:31):
Was it pretty
simple?
What was it?
General Motors dealership, itwas a GMC Buick Cadillac store.
SPEAKER_02 (11:37):
Um oh it was okay.
Yeah, and uh other than take thetitle, what else did you have to
do?
Nothing really.
Just take the title.
SPEAKER_01 (11:46):
Yeah, here's the
title, sign it over.
Yeah, give them a check for thecar, boom, I was out.
It probably took maybe two hoursto stop at.
Yeah, and that was me callingthem on the way to the
dealership to find out if thecar was still there that I saw
on the ad.
It was still there.
I got there, and two hours laterI was driving out.
SPEAKER_02 (12:06):
In that car.
SPEAKER_01 (12:07):
Because that's the
car that you saw online.
That's the car that you well tomake the story longer.
I was at another dealership forthe same car, and they couldn't
sell it to me because it wasmissing a sticker from General
Motors that was part of a recallunder the hood.
There was some type of technicalsticker that General Motors puts
under there.
It was missing, and they said,We can't do that.
Well, how do I get this?
You could sell it to me and thenmail me the sticker, I'll get my
(12:29):
own.
I don't need it, whatever thecase.
Can't do it because they'll getin trouble through the feds and
General Motors.
Right.
So, you know, very upsetting.
I left the dealership and on myway out of the city.
Ticked off.
Very, I called anotherdealership because I'm sitting
with the guy telling me he can'tsell me the car, and I'm
scrolling to buy another car onthe phone.
(12:49):
So that's what I did.
And they had one basically likethe one, just like it.
Just same identical.
In fact, had less miles, like 10miles on or something.
SPEAKER_02 (12:58):
Oh, okay.
But you did buy it new, right?
Brand new car.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01 (13:02):
Brand new car.
Yeah, they had to get it cleanedup, and actually, that was
probably the process of the twohours done cleaning up the car.
SPEAKER_02 (13:08):
Because it sat on
the lottery for a few days.
SPEAKER_01 (13:10):
Whatever it was, you
know.
I had the papers all filled out,I paid cash for it, I had a
check in hand, all that stuff.
So good.
And they traded my gave me thevalue of the car.
Yeah, they actually gave me morebecause it was a V.
Oh my god.
So the story with the V is uhthey didn't they didn't make a
Cadillac.
Was it an SRX?
They did.
Generation one, they did make aV.
(13:31):
Mine was mine, was the thirdgeneration.
Um it was an SRX.
Yes.
SPEAKER_02 (13:35):
Yeah, a Cadillac
SRX.
Beautiful, yeah, station wagonlooking kind of.
SPEAKER_01 (13:39):
Yeah, it was a neat
little car.
It was fit me perfect.
It held all my drum equipment inthe back with you know,
passenger despair, all that goodstuff.
Was it the CT5 that took itsplace?
What was what was yeah, XT5.
XT5, and then they made asmaller one, the XT4 beyond
that.
Yeah.
But I would get my car washedbecause I've worked at
dealerships.
I with American TirelessRegional Manager, dealerships,
(14:01):
three, four a day, and and Iwould get the car washed a
couple times a day.
You know, if it was raining orsomething, I'd get pulled.
Hey, how much does it cost for acar for a car wash?
No problem, Jeff.
Give me your keys.
While we're doing business, talking about tires and things,
they were cleaning my car.
Well, this one particular one ata Cadillac dealership, it was in
San Antonio, Bachelor Cadillac,I believe it was.
And uh the operations guy was agood friend of mine, came back
(14:25):
and said, Jeff, I got a problem.
The 3.6 emblem on the back brokeoff with during the process of
washing the car.
Oh gosh, we'll just put anotherone on.
We can't get one for likeanother week, eight days.
All right, well, what do yougot?
Well, we got a V.
Let me have it.
I didn't let them put it on.
I took it with me and I put iton.
So uh I had a V meaning a highhorsepower catalog.
(14:48):
Yeah, exactly.
So uh I had to do that.
Did you ever have anybody pullup next to you?
I've had people go, hey, I'mthat that's is that a V?
That's a V.
The car's not, but that is a V.
Let's get technical about that.
Love it.
So, yeah.
And I think I think they gave memore money because they thought
it was a V.
SPEAKER_02 (15:05):
I don't I know, I'm
just kidding.
Give that man, give that mansome extra money for the V.
Speaking of extra money, there'sMichael.
Yes, sir.
Well, did you make it back?
SPEAKER_00 (15:17):
Yeah, I did, but we
were having I'm not sure what's
going on with Scott.
Uh we texted back and forth, andhe was gonna do some rebooting,
and uh it just didn't happen.

Time now for some of the storiesmaking automotive news headlines
this week.
Detroit three automakers havemounted a furious last-minute
lobbying blitz over the Trumpadministration's potential
tariffs on medium and heavy-dutytrucks in a fight pitting
Detroit's legacy automakersagainst each other.
(23:04):
Oh boy.
Huh.
When is the last time thathappened?
Girl fight.
It still goes on today.
Stillantis has lobbied theadministration in recent days to
waver or soften a possible 25%tariff that could otherwise hit
medium-duty ram pickup trucksthe company makes in Mexico.
(23:25):
People familiar with the mattertold Bloomberg.
This is a story from AutomotiveNews.
General Motors and Ford, meanwhile, have urged Trump's
administration officials todismiss the request, said the
people who asked not to beidentified, because the
discussions are private.
Ford argued that shieldingStellantis from the medium-duty
truck tariffs would hand thecompany a cost advantage over
(23:48):
U.S.
assembled trucks that containimported parts already subject
to tariffs, they said.
GM told administration officialsthat if Stellantis gets relief
on trucks, other automakers willwant exemptions.
And the maker of Chevrolet andGMC pickups could and should get
one on its other Mexican-builtmodels, according to one of the
(24:09):
people.
The effort comes just as theadministration has blown past a
timeline for imposing thetariffs, which the president has
said would be in place byOctober 1.
Trump said last week the 25%duty on heavy duty trucks, part
of the month-long investigationinto heavy and medium duty
models.
We'll see what happens on that.
SPEAKER_01 (24:31):
They're fighting.
SPEAKER_02 (24:32):
They are.
(25:32):
She urged automakers to addressEV headwinds such as
affordability and charging.
Two of the big things that keeppeople from going, I'll buy one
of those.
SPEAKER_01 (25:41):
Yeah, well, and I
feel understanding that the
automakers are buying up theexcess EVs to keep that rebate
in place.
That'll only last for a while.
I know.
SPEAKER_00 (25:51):
Well, and it's like
her like her talking about it
going up to 25% uh in 10 yearsor whatever it is.
They're not buying them now.
It's slowing down now becauseit's all a money matter, which
means they don't, most of usdon't want to take that
lifestyle change that it takesto move to an EV if there's no
money for it.
SPEAKER_02 (26:09):
And you and I both
know that it is a lifestyle
change if you want an EV.
Absolutely.
My daughter has one, and uh afriend of mine that I work with,
he has a Tesla.
And it is, and he told me I'llnever have another one because
it is too big of a pain to haveto go somewhere on a road trip
to stop for 20 minutes to get itcharged when I can just pull in
(26:31):
the gas station, and for fiveminutes I can get 400 miles
worth of gas.
SPEAKER_00 (26:35):
20 minutes if you
stop at the right charger.
Otherwise, it could be an houror an hour and a half.
SPEAKER_02 (26:41):
For my charging
story, as I told you on this
show, I had an EV that wasrunning low, and I just could
not catch up.
So I decided that I was going togo find a fast charger.
I did.
And it was called a shellrecharge station.
There was no gasoline available,it was strictly a fast charging
(27:01):
station.
80% charge, took 20 minutes.
It cost me$50.
SPEAKER_01 (27:09):
$50.
But didn't you have to likedrive to Pasadena to get that?
SPEAKER_02 (27:14):
No, no, it was right
there in First Colony.
Oh, how many miles did that getyou?
Well, um, it got at an 80%charge, and that particular
vehicle it was about 320 miles.
SPEAKER_00 (27:25):
Yeah, okay.
50 bucks.
SPEAKER_02 (27:28):
I could I could have
a car, a gasoline motor to go to
Dallas and halfway back for$50.
Yep.
SPEAKER_00 (27:35):
Yeah, I I I would
think so.
SPEAKER_01 (27:37):
Yeah.
Well, what was the last tour wewent on?
We went uh when we followed youout, I think it was one of the
tours.
I did the whole thing on a tankof gas.
Yeah.
Down to Victorian back.
Yeah.
Yeah.
There's that.
I get uh this week I got alittle, I got like 29 because I
was more city driving, but I'mgenerally in the 32 range on the
highway.
SPEAKER_00 (27:57):
Yeah, yeah.
They're they're hoping that EVstake off.
There's no real data that shecan present, I don't believe.
I've never seen any that'lljustify her statement that 25%
of the market will be there in10 years.
SPEAKER_01 (28:09):
I don't agree.
Yeah, I I agree with you, Mark.
I'm driving a Buick and everyoneshould own one.
SPEAKER_02 (28:14):
Yeah.
I I like I've said from the verybeginning, if the EV can't
compete head to head without anincentive, then why?
And these companies have spentbillions of dollars already, and
they've stopped buildingbuildings that they're going to
(28:35):
build these EVs in.
They've backed out of these bigbattery plants.
It it's it was way too much toosoon, and no infrastructure.
SPEAKER_00 (28:46):
That's your
government at work here.
SPEAKER_02 (28:47):
Yeah, well, it was
my government at work.
Yeah, they're the ones thatstarted all this mess.
Well, um, okay.
I think that uh we are done withthis segment.
What do you think, Mr.
Mars?
SPEAKER_00 (28:59):
I think so.
Um I think it's we have someother things to do.
SPEAKER_02 (29:05):
We do?
SPEAKER_00 (29:06):
We do.
SPEAKER_02 (29:07):
What are they?
SPEAKER_00 (29:09):
