Just ahead, we're going to havea very special guest and that
is going to be Tammy Dooley.
All right, you might recall thename.
(00:22):
She is the President and ChiefExecutive Officer of the city of
Granbury, texas, and all partsin between, uh-huh, and the
route that leads up there.
Yep, all roads lead to Granbury, that's right, and she's
waiting for us to arrive, andwe'll be arriving there a month
from now.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Yeah, pretty much.
Yeah, just about Three and ahalf weeks, something like that.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
And so, anyway, we're
going to talk to her about the
Lone Star Street Rod Associationstate run that's going to be
held in her magnificent city.
I gave her a promotion andnobody picked up on that except
she had this look of shock onher face.
But we'll deal with that in justa minute.
That's all coming up on the InReal Time Car Talk Show.
(01:07):
Howdy, along with Mike out ofthis world, mars.
We always need more.
Jeff Zekin, I'm Don Armstrong, glad you could join us today.
Let's get right to it.
Let's get it.
And she's here and she's on theair, and it's Tammy Dooley, the
President of the United States,or?
Speaker 2 (01:21):
at least Granbury.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
The United States
states, or at least granbury
united states of texas.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
That's it.
Can you guys hear me?
Yeah, we can hear you.
Good, oh, I'm so glad I uh.
When you said that, uh, mytitle I I, I almost fell over
because my boss probablywouldn't appreciate that well,
that's why we said it.
Yeah, I will defer to my boss,Chris Kaufman, as the CEO of the
city of Grand.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Prairie, is he Okay?
Well, he's not here, so you are.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
No, he's the one
that's working the camera.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
Oh, there you go.
That's why she was over-clampedabout it.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
He's great, he's
great.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Well, how have you
been?
Tammy Dooley and her husband,by the way, is Tom Dooley.
No, I'm sorry, it's not, it'sMike Dooley, but at any rate, I
always have to bring that up andI can't help myself.
So how have you been?
What's going on?
Speaker 3 (02:14):
I have been so good.
I hope you guys have been good.
We cannot believe it's alreadytime for Lone Star Street Rod
again, and this year, of course,is their big 50th anniversary,
so we are beyond excited.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
Well, it ought to be
a great event, and especially
the fact that it is the 50thanniversary of Lone Star Street
Rod Association.
And you know, it's so funnywhen I don't know who contacted
who, but we got together withthe guys at Lone Star Street Rod
and they said, yeah, we wantyou to come to Granbury.
(02:52):
I had no clue where Granburywas, but now I do.
And when somebody says to mewell, where are you going to be
that weekend?
We're going to Granbury.
Oh, I've been to Granbury.
I love that little town.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, and lucky youthat you're there.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Well, I'm really
lucky.
It's a beautiful place.
Granbury has made a name foritself because we're a small,
charming community, and sothat's what we do is welcome
visitors.
So we were thrilled when youcame for the first time, and now
we feel like you're part of ourfamily.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Well, thank you, we
feel like the same.
By the way, I was just asking, mars, before we went on the air
with you we are staying Saturdaynight somewhere, but I don't
know if that's been arranged ornot, and I've not heard.
Of course, I haven't talked toyou.
So have you got us a place tostay or are?
Speaker 3 (03:48):
we staying in the car
.
Well, I can sure get you aplace.
I thought that part was takencare of, but I could sure do
that if you could go.
But I did make yourreservations for dinner and you
had thought maybe Christina's,and so I have reservations for
all of you, Christina's Saturdaynight, which will blow your
(04:08):
socks off.
It is a fabulous restaurant, asa matter of fact.
I don't know if you can seereal well, but right behind me
is the restaurant.
I think I've got it in the shot.
Yeah, you do, I've got it inthe shot.
Yeah, you do that is theNuthouse Hotel and Christina's,
which is my book of five-stardining experience, and Chef Gary
(04:32):
Folger is amazing and his wifeKatie will be taking care of you
, but if you need hotelaccommodations, I'm your girl.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Well, I know that I
will be.
Speaker 4 (04:44):
I've got to talk to
Rick again.
When I talked to him and wewere talking about setting up
something later on in the monthand we talked about you coming
this Saturday, Didn't quite getto the hotel, but I'll get back
with him and make sure.
Tick-tock, yeah, tick-tock.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Yeah, buddy, exactly
All right.
So what is it that the city ofGranbury does for people like
the Lone Star Street RodAssociation?
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Well, the Lone Star
Street Rod has been here
probably about 10 years with usand again, this is their 50th
anniversary.
So we have all kinds ofincentivization packages that we
work with to bring groups here, and they are really probably a
classic example of that.
You know, they put so manyhotel rooms in our community and
(05:32):
the whole city welcomes them.
When they start coming in westart seeing the cars and
everyone gets excited.
They have well over 200 cars attheir show and with it being
the 50th, we have some surprisesplanned for them.
They will be going to NewGranbury Live and seeing a
tribute band.
It's the Heart Tribute Band.
(05:53):
They'll be having a bigbirthday cake and celebrations
out in the park.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
What night is that?
Saturday night.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
The Heart Tribute is
Saturday night.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
So we're going to go
to dinner and then we're going
to go see the Heart.
Tribute is Saturday night, sowe're going to go to dinner and
then we're going to go see theHeart Tribute.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
Well, we can switch
your time for dinner.
I think they overlap a littlebit.
The Heart Tribute starts atseven and a lot of them now they
will be in there and they'rebuying tickets, and last I heard
it's almost full full, but Ican look into that.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
but uh, we can do
your dinner earlier if you want
well, I mean, I'm not gonna, I'mnot, I'm not the one here to
set the schedule.
That would be Mr Mars and you,but uh, you know, that sounds
something that we'd like to do.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
Whatever happens
happens.
That's what I say, yeah that'sit.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
My wife is just happy
to be going well, we're glad
you're coming and, uh, granberryjust keeps doing all the fun
things and we have uh, I thinkwe talked about it last time
we're the celebration capital oftexas now, and so this is a
(07:03):
place people go to celebrate.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
Well, let's not leave
out the lake, and you know the
Airbnb stuff and you know all ofthat.
That's a big deal up therearound the lake and the lake is
not some little, tiny littlereservoir.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
No, the lake is like
30 miles long and there's 6,000
plus houses along the lake andit is stunningly beautiful.
It carves right through themiddle of town.
It is as the crow flies.
From where I'm standing it islike not far at all I can't see
it from this vantage point, butit is very close.
(07:41):
So it's right where the park is, where the show will be at the
conference center, in HewlettPark.
So it is beautiful.
It just adds to the characterand charm of Granberry.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
So, tammy, if
somebody is going to say, you
know, I think I don't have a hotrod car, but I think I'd like
to go up there and experiencethat whole thing, what would be
a good website or some sourcethat you could use so you could
see Granberry, pictures ofGranberry reservations, hotels,
things to do, things to see, where would you go?
Speaker 3 (08:15):
I would go to
visitgranberrycom Everything you
could possibly want to knowabout Granberry, all the events
and especially Lone Star StreetRide Association.
Also, follow us on Facebook andInstagram because and even
Pinterest.
We have a lot of great storieson there, so that's a central
source.
(08:35):
You can actually view our lakecam.
You should try that.
You should try that.
On Visit Granbury, click onGranbury Lake Cam and it is
cameras positioned on the backof the conference center, four
different angles, where you canwatch the lake, which is very
(08:56):
calming.
You can see the weather, seehow beautiful it's going to be
when you arrive.
It's really neat.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
I think last year we
went to a marina out on the lake
yeah, we did.
We had lunch there On the wayout of town at lunch Really neat
.
I think last year we went to amarina out on the lake yeah, we
did.
We had lunch there On the wayout of town yeah, at lunch,
really neat place.
You're looking at me like wedid that.
Yeah, you were there.
Okay, so this year you can onlyhave one margarita at the
marina, oh, that's probably whatthe that was the issue.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
And that's after you
get off the air.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
Uh-huh, okay, all
right.
Well, there is that.
Yeah, you know those.
Remember those thermos bottlesthat you used to have as a kid.
That had the glass liner inside.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you'd besurprised at how cold they can
keep a drink.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
Just saying that's
true.
That's true.
I remember those, I do and Iknow you'll be bringing your
wives and there are somewonderful boutiques here for
them to shop at, like Red on theSquare.
So I hope they bring lots ofmoney and stay as long as they
can and shop there.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
Yeah, well, guess
whose money it'll be yeah just
bring the credit card.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
That's what it is,
and they've only got the one
ride.
Is there transportation an?
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Uber, so to say, a
Granberry bus, a trolley that
can go from Hewlett Parkdowntown or something.
You are in luck because sinceyou were here last year, we
retired our historic trolley andbought two brand new historic
trolleys.
They look just like the otherone but they're brand new.
So we have two.
And then we also have open-airtram transportation from the
(10:45):
park so you can go back andforth from the park to the
square at shop or jump on thetrolleys at one of the hotels.
It goes to the majority of ourhotels and picks you up about
every hour.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Very nice, and it's
free, and it's free.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
That's even better.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
Yeah, that's great.
So it's free, that's evenbetter.
Yeah, that's free.
So who ultimately pays forsomething like that?
Is it the Convention andVisitors Bureau?
How do you?
Speaker 3 (11:13):
work that Well.
Again, the city of Granbury youknow I'm part of the city, so
Visit Granbury is a citydepartment and the majority of
our funding comes from hot tax, which is that wonderful little
tax you pay when you check outof a hotel room.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
Yeah, okay.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
So that is
responsible for, you know,
paying for these two newtrolleys, which is great, and it
all comes through the city and, seriously, a plug for our city
council.
We have a really great mayorand city council and they see
the value of taking care of ourtourist partners, and so a free
(11:52):
trolley is just part of that.
So in the end, the city isresponsible for making those
decisions, but it is to generatemore tourism, and the trolley
is probably one of the mostfavorite things we have and
offer.
It's exciting just when you seeit drive up.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
What's the population
of Granbury?
Speaker 3 (12:11):
It's just over 11,000
, and we have about 75,000
surrounding us in our county.
We're a relatively small county, but tourism is our number one
industry, and so it's justreally great.
It sounds like 11,000 people, but our city services about 75
(12:34):
000 wow nice.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
It's a nice size too.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
It's not too small,
it's not too big, yeah, and you
can kind of see some of thecities, the, the square, the
town square behind you there andand I that was one of the
things that I fell in love withwhen we came up here we were
walking around down there in theevening.
You know, it was starting toget a little dark.
The lights were coming on, wegot some ice cream at the Silver
Saddle and some of the othershops and stuff that were down
(12:59):
there, and it was just so niceand the weather was great.
Walking around down there itwas fun.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
I think what we need
to do is that we need to have us
a Christmas show in Granbury.
That's what we need to do.
Yeah, we go up there.
Show in Granbury, that's whatwe need to do.
We go up there.
Tammy can find us a place tobroadcast it on a Saturday,
somewhere around Town Squarewhere we've got all the
Christmas decorations out.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
I'll bet that's neat.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
Well, see, there you
go, I've given you a lead.
Both of you two need to talk.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
There you go.
We just saw two youngstersbehind you walking.
One of them had a fishing pole.
He kind of looked like Opiewalking back and forth.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
Well, as you
mentioned that, I have been
watching groups walk by.
It looks like I saw a weddinggroup already and a girlfriend
weekend and across the way overhere, if you can see them, looks
like a little athletic I don'tknow if I got them in there, but
like a boys.
I don't know if it's a churchgroup or a sports group, but
(13:56):
yeah, so that's a frequent sitehere in Granbury.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
Do these groups?
Do they call you ahead of timeand make contact with you?
Hey, what can we do?
Give us some ideas and you alsoget an idea of who they are,
how many in the group, that sortof thing.
Y'all talk we do we do?
Speaker 3 (14:12):
We do we help them
with hotel rooms and we help
them with, you know, getting therates they want, the
accommodations they're lookingfor.
We probably work with somewherearound 60 different events it
could be wedding groups oranything and then you know they
(14:34):
ultimately make the decision.
We just make it convenient forthem and then we also do a lot
of servicing, like we willprovide the trolley for these
groups and we also do welcomebags.
We literally through our officestuff, 10,000 welcome bags a
year for people coming in fullcoupons and swag and stuff like
that Our volunteers do it.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
That's so wonderful.
We love to hear stuff like thatbecause you know Houston, texas
, I guess they have it but it'sat a different level and it's
just so enticing that it makesGranbury a place, a destination,
if you will.
Yeah Well, Tammy, it's great totalk to you and we thank you so
much for joining us today.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
Convention and
Visitor Bureau and it's
visitgranberrycom,visitgranberrycom, and we will
see you all in June.
Is that a statue of you behindyou?
No, no, this is the lady MaryLou Watkins who was really the
person that transformed I don'tknow if you can see her
transformed Granberry.
(15:39):
The restaurant you will beeating in is the location of her
hotel and she was famous forbringing Granberry back from a
old city that needed somethingand she served in that
restaurant uh, her ownrestaurant and hotel and she, if
she, was part of the family, the nut family.
(16:00):
So, uh, it's this hotel behindme and that's where y'all will
eat at christina's.
But anyway, she made theselittle corn cornmeal fried.
Oh my gosh, everything wasgreat.
I actually got to go there, probably in the early 90s.
Anyway, this is a statue.
If you used to ring the dinnerbell, you'll see it at dinner,
(16:21):
but it's fabulous.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
That's the same woman
that Ricky Nelson sang about
Yep.
All right, tammy, it's great totalk to you.
Tell Mike slash Tom, we saidhello.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
I will.
Speaker 1 (16:34):
See you in.
Speaker 4 (16:35):
June.
See you in.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
June.
Thank you so much Tammy's fine.
Fantastic.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
I can't wait.
I'm going to go home and pack, are you?
I'm going to go gas up the carand wait.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
Okay, you go ahead
and do that.

(21:25):
And then we got Granberry.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
There you go Well.
Thank you very much for all ofthat.
I can't keep it the name ofthat.
One thing, though, is dangerousNucking N-U-K-I-.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
N.
It's a good one.
I'm waiting on you.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
Are you?
Speaker 2 (21:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (21:50):
He's still trying to
figure out how to say that
properly.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
I'm very worried
about that.
All right, 57, 58, okay, 57.
I'm just doing some math here,as long as he doesn't take his
shoes off and start countingBritish automakers will be
allowed to export 100,000vehicles to the US each year at
a reduced tariff rate of 10%under the framework of a trade
(22:16):
deal the countries agreed to onMay the 8th.
Since April 3rd, us vehicleimporters have been subject to a
25% duty Tariffs on a widerange of parts began on May 3rd.
It leaves in place a 10% tariffon goods imported from the?
U, while Britain agreed tolower its tariffs to 1.8% from
5.1% and provide greater accessto US goods.
(22:38):
Okay, new vehicle inventory andI bring this up because
apparently there was a run oncars last month when it was
revealed that we were going todo this 25% tariff thing Yep,
new vehicle inventory in the USdropped roughly 10% over the
last month to 2.8 millionvehicles as consumers grabbed
(22:59):
new vehicles ahead oftariff-related sticker price
hikes expected to arrive overthe next few months.
Inventory fell from 3.08million a month ago to 2.8
million to start May.
According to inventorymanagement firm LotLynx,
estimated supply now 58 days, down from 71 days.
So the car you may have hopedto get may or may not be there.
(23:23):
Yugo, all right, remember Yugo?
Are they being recalled?
They plan to put together atwo-door small hatchback into
production in 2027, put togethera two-door small hatchback into
production in 2027, reviving abrand that debuted 45 years ago
but has not made a car since2008.
Didn't they have?
That was what they made.
The company behind the projectGlobo, like Bozo, debuted a
(23:47):
scale model of its comeback carat the Car Design Festival in
2025 in Munich.
Yugo promises it will have afully functional prototype of
the car they haven't built aprototype yet at the 2027
Belgrade Expo.
Don't hold your breath, friends.
Speaker 4 (24:04):
That's when we're
going to debut our build.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
That we haven't built
yet.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
We just thought about
it, this particular car.
You know what it looks like Anold GTI or Rabbit?
Yeah, it looks almost identicalto it a two-door version.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
They put the window
defroster in the back so you can
keep your hands warm while youpush it in the winter, push it
in the winter.
Yeah, oh good I like that.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
That's a good one.

a per diem employee to trainher replacement.
Speaker 4 (25:31):
This is how you steal
.
Yeah, this is how I got awaywith it for so many years.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
Once she got caught
and then got her new job.
What?
Speaker 2 (25:44):
What?
Who does that?
I don't know.
Well, they obviously do there, that city, Port St Lucie.
My mother lived in that town.
She was fired in January, bythe way.
Wow.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
Your mother was no.
Speaker 4 (25:56):
The thief over there.
Speaker 1 (25:59):
So I thought that
that was interesting.
And Brembo says its latestdevelopment slashes brake dust
emissions, making the systemcompliant with tougher European
Union rules that take effect in2026.
So no dust brakes now fromBrembo.
Very cool, and if they've gotthem, you know that everybody
else is going to start makingthem.
Speaker 4 (26:18):
I'm curious how you
measure the amount of dust that
your car puts off.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
I don't know how they
measure them, but apparently
it's reduced the dust emissionsby about 70% On a brake dyno.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
They have tire dynos,
engine dynos, they have a brake
dyno.
That does that you think, anddynos have a breakdown on it.
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (26:31):
Does that?
Yeah, I guess maybe they putmore asbestos in it so that it
doesn't kick off dust.
We're going to finish the showup, right after this brief break
, what?
Speaker 1 (26:39):
Yeah, yeah, okay,
fine, we'll just go with that.
