Speaker 1 (06:26):
Wait just a minute.
Who's saying shame, shame,shame?
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Anybody out there
knows that would be Shirley and
Company from 1975.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
I knew that David
said that.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
See, there's
something worthless information
you didn't know today.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
David said that he
didn't have his mic on.
We needed to know.
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
You should know this.
He's a fountain of thatworthless information.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Yeah Well, you're the
big music man.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
You're the radio guy.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
You're the radio guy,
mr Radio Music man, what I
can't hear you.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
He's not that old.
He said you are that old?
Speaker 1 (06:59):
What year were you?
Speaker 4 (07:00):
born David 1985.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Are you serious?
Speaker 4 (07:05):
You're a liar.
Yeah, I was going to say I gotkids older than you.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
You made that crap up
.
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
Yeah, he just tries
to act.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Can we get another
round?
Speaker 4 (07:12):
That's exactly what
we need.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
All right, Mr Morris,
your turn.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
Don just for you All
right.
Just for you, this is MrPatrick Lindquist.
Okay, is that right?
Yes, sir, okay he has, and I'msurprised you haven't sniffed it
out yet.
The blue, light blue, 1971Delta 88 convertible with a
white interior in it oh man.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
And I'm going to let
him tell you about the rest of
this car that he's had before.
Well, why don't you ask himsome specific?
Speaker 4 (07:45):
questions.
Mr Morris, that would be a wayto go.
I'm still addressing you there, you go.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
No, you're trying to
lay your job onto him.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
So you mentioned
you've had this car for a little
while.
Speaker 5 (07:56):
Yes, 40 years 40
years.
My wife and I had our firstdate in that car.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
Oh, wow, wow, Put
this microphone a little bit
closer.
There you go.
Perfect, there you go, andthere you go, and he's got Hot
Rod Tour stickers all over it.
Hot Rod Tour, they've got anauto-release shirt.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
You know, I thought
you looked familiar.
I thought, oh, I've seen yousomewhere.
Speaker 5 (08:17):
Yeah, I've been three
times.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
So have you, yeah,
yeah.
So have you made any changes tothe car?
Is it still all stock?
Speaker 5 (08:29):
It's pretty much
stock.
It had a bench seat in it.
I took it out and put a set ofbuckets in a console.
But wait a minute.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
You just got through
telling me that your wife's
first date with you was in thatcar.
Speaker 5 (08:39):
Yes, did it have the
bench seat in it then?
Speaker 1 (08:42):
Yes, and you've taken
that out and replaced it with
buckets.
Speaker 5 (08:45):
Yes, Because you got
tired of the of the wife and
didn't want to have her sit nextto you.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
No, not at all I just
yeah, I wouldn't say that
wanted to change it, wanted I'vealways wanted it with bucket
seats in it really yeah, well, you know they quit putting
bucket seats in those cars inthe late, in the early, late 60s
so the car didn't come withbuckets and buckets weren't
available for the car, no, soyou robbed some car for those
(09:15):
buckets 62 old Starfires.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Yeah, there you go,
Starfires and they fit Well,
yeah they do now.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
They do now yeah.
Speaker 5 (09:23):
And the console had
the Starfires in it.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
Did you have to
modify the floor or anything?
Speaker 5 (09:29):
No, I just built
brackets.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
Hey gotcha, nice it
looks really nice I can imagine
you're gonna have to go overthere and look at it, you'll
you'll appreciate it, uh how'sthat convertible top working?
Speaker 5 (09:44):
uh, it's got the
scissor top in it and uh,
there's a guy here in town thatuh is that knows how to put them
in.
Yeah, but I I had it allcompletely rebuilt and uh, all
new bushings and everything, andso I I took the frame to him
(10:05):
and the top and he put it allback in the car that's cool
because I just I just had itrepainted and all the body work,
uh, and a funny story uh, wefound a new in the box, rear
quarter panel for it a new inthe box, new, old stock new, old
(10:26):
.
It cost me more to ship it thanit cost to buy it.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
I guess there wasn't
too big of a high demand for it.
Now, was that quarter panel onthe convertible different than
the sedan?
Speaker 5 (10:39):
It was, but it was
the guy that did the work for me
.
He was able to make it work.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
He didn't take the
whole quarter panel off, he just
cut out all the rust not a lotof rust, did a great job,
because I was looking down theside of it and I thought it was
all original sheet metal thisguy, so it did have rust.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
Is it not an original
houston car or?
Speaker 5 (11:01):
uh, I'm really.
It was uh originally sold inmidland texas.
Yeah, bird Oldsmobile Okay, andthat's where I'm from.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
Okay, and it's got
rust.
Well, I guess it's not toosurprising because you know rust
mitigation really didn't existback then and it depends on, you
know, the high humidity andthat sort of stuff.
Once it starts, the egg willstop.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
That's right Well.
I mean, you get like the snowand salt and it's the angle of
stop.
That's right Well.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
I know, but you get
like the snow and salt, and salt
is what.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Midland.
Odessa doesn't get a lot ofsnow, but they do get some snow
every now and then.
A little bit but snow is notthe factor, it's all the other
garbage they put in there, thesalts and all the the chemicals
the chemicals that they put downon the road.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
That's what does the
rust.
Speaker 5 (11:44):
If you look at any 71
through 76 B-bodied cars, they
all rust around the back wheels.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
Yeah, Does it have
that chrome strip around the
wheel opening?
Speaker 5 (12:01):
A small one, it's
kind of on the inside of it.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
Gotcha.
Yeah, it doesn't fold out tothe outside of it, but it's on
the inside.
Yeah, holds moisture inside.
Speaker 5 (12:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
Holds moisture.
Yeah, yep, yeah.
But it's interesting because, you know, when they designed
those cars back in the day, theydidn't think that way Because,
if you remember correctly and Iworked for a Chevrolet dealer in
1969, 69, 70, that they putwindow molding around.
It trapped all of the water, yep, all of the time.
(12:32):
If you washed it, set itoutside in the rain didn't make
any difference, it wasunderneath there.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
Right.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
And that 66 Corvair
that I had.
That was its major problem wasthat chrome trim around the
window that trapped the water inthere between the window and
the actual body itself and it'lleat it up.
Yeah and I guess you when youhad it repainted.
I guess you had it alleverything was fixed.
Speaker 5 (12:58):
It's all metal, no
bondo that's good.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
And then they
invented z bart z bart, I
remember z bart does that stillexist.
Uh, it's in form.
It's called undercoating now.
Speaker 4 (13:10):
Yeah, there's a
different name.
I think that franchise is gonebut there's a different one.
Yeah, they probably bought themout.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
That's what they used
to spray in there.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
Take the moldings off
, drill holes.
Speaker 5 (13:18):
Yep and then plug it
the guy that actually painted
the car, when he's pretty good.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
Well, it does that,
and it also helps make it
quieter and heavier and heavier.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
Yeah yeah, because
now they've got the mats.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
How about that motor
that's in there?
Speaker 5 (13:37):
It's original 455
with 153,000 miles on it.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
And it's never been
apart.
Speaker 5 (13:43):
No.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
How cool is that.
Speaker 5 (13:47):
I'll rephrase that.
It's had a timing chain andgear put in it.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
Well, that's for the
course.
Speaker 5 (13:53):
I took it apart when
I was redoing it and I put
chrome valve covers on it andyou could literally eat off the
inside of the engine.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (14:03):
And this was maybe
6,000 miles ago.
Nice, it's really a nice car.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
Well, that comes with
having it for the last 40 years
and taking care of it.
Yeah, I mean, 150,000 miles in40 years is not a lot of miles.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
So what did you pay
for it back 40 years ago?
Speaker 5 (14:19):
I think I paid about
$3,000.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
I was going to say
that's a lot of money 40 years
ago.
Speaker 5 (14:26):
I got that car.
We had a restaurant in midlandtexas and we had some friends
two ladies that owned that car,and they bought that car new to
throw a rule paper routeconvertible one of them would
sit in the back seat and theywould fill the newspapers up to
about here and then they wouldthrow sure, and that top stayed
(14:49):
down all the time.
Of course, if you ever been inwest texas, there's no humidity,
it never rains.
But they came in the restaurant.
I was always teasing them, say,you know, bring it up to me
sometime and let me wash it andwax it for you and I'll drive it
for the weekend.
Well, they came in one time andthey said if you get a minute,
come see me and see us.
And they I sat one time andthey said if you get a minute,
(15:09):
come see me and see us.
And I sat down with them andthey pushed the keys over to me
and I said does it need a washjob?
And they said no, we want youto have that car.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
Wow, they gave it to
you.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
No, they didn't give
it to me.
Speaker 5 (15:27):
They told me I could
pay for it any way.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
I wanted to, but they
wanted me to have that car.
Obviously, it went to theperfect owner.
Speaker 5 (15:33):
Yeah, it's been a
great car.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
And that's when you
met your wife.
Speaker 5 (15:37):
Not too long, a
couple years after that.
Yeah, there's a couple morebetween there.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
A couple of wives no,
just checking, but it's got the
A couple of wives no.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
Oh no, just checking
Ladies.
Okay, I got you.
Speaker 5 (15:52):
But it's got the
polycast wheels on it that were
an upgrade for 71 and 72.
Delta 88s.
Speaker 4 (16:00):
They look kind of
like a honeycomb, kind of like a
bigger honeycomb that were onthe Pontiacs Right.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
Is it 8 lug or 5 lug,
5.
5 lug.
Yeah you on the Pontiacs Right.
Is it an 8-lug or 5-lug?
5.
5-lug.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
Yeah, you think the.
Speaker 5 (16:14):
Pontiacs had the
8-lugs, I think.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
Well, it's great
talking to you.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
Thank you, I
appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
You got a name for
that car, you call it anything?
Speaker 5 (16:22):
As a matter of fact,
the two ladies that I bought the
car from, those are the onesthat fought over you Right.
All my friends that knew them,we all called them the ladies,
and so my wife named it the lady.
Ah, ah, so that's its name.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
And I assume that it
spends all these days in the
garage, unless you bring it toan event like this Exactly.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
Yeah, exactly so.
Speaker 5 (16:47):
You live in the area
here Down in close to Sugar Land
Meadows.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Place.
Okay, yeah, yeah, down by us,yeah yeah.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
So he just spends all
his time with the lady.
Speaker 5 (16:56):
Yeah, yeah, we just
took it on a.
We just did the Veterans Dayrun in Bastrop.
Yeah, a little over 300 mileson it, trouble-free miles.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
And you've been on
the Hot Rod Tour of Texas, so
you're obviously driving.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
Oh yeah, I drive it
all the time Not as a daily Is
he going this year on the HotRod Tour?
Speaker 5 (17:15):
I am.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
Well, once again, I
think that we're going to go,
Although have we been invited.
Speaker 5 (17:24):
I can get you invited
.
Speaker 4 (17:25):
Yeah, we've been
invited, but we're waiting to
hear where it's going to be.
He keeps saying he's coming ourdirection this year.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
Because we do a
broadcast that doesn't make any
difference whether or not we'reinvited.
Speaker 4 (17:34):
Well, no, I was just
trying to make a segue into
telling more about the event.
They're not ready to come onthe air and announce it.
They're still working on plans.
Speaker 5 (17:44):
Well, no, because
it's too early.
Speaker 4 (17:46):
Yeah, yeah.
Well, I keep asking them Goodtimes, what do they tell?
Speaker 3 (17:51):

bugging them.

We'll see you then.
In Real Time continues our falltour Gulf Coast Auto Shield,
december 7th.
We hope you stop by the In RealTime Remote Broadcast booth the
booth.
Would you call this the booth?
Would you call it a booth?
(20:53):
It's a radio booth.
It's a radio booth.
It's a radio booth.
There you go.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
It's not like a photo
booth.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
It could be.
It could be a photo booth or aphone booth.
No, I was thinking more alongthe lines of go to the Fox for
your photos, remember Fox photo.
Go to the Fox.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
Kathy used to be in
one of those satellite places in
a parking lot.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
That's where she used
to be Parking lot, usually at
the grocery store or somethingyeah, and then she went into a
home furrow, was it no?
Handy Dan Handy.
Dan, yeah, was it Handy DanHandy.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
Dan, and then she
went from there to Academy for
37 years, yeah.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
Alright.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
Nice, by the way.
Next weekend.
Speaker 1 (21:33):
we're back in the
studio, will you?
Speaker 2 (21:34):
be glad I was taking
off next week.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
You know, as long as
we have nice weather like this,
remotes are great.
We could just set up in thedriveway.
But I will tell you, it takesus a full two hours to get
everything all set up.
It's a long time.
It's a lot of work.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Yeah, but it's worth
it.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
We just don't fold it
up into a little case and just
do this.
Mars had to go out and buy atruck to haul all this stuff
around.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
I thought she was
coming to get us another round.
Speaker 1 (22:05):
I know Could be, I
guess not.
Okay, you want to do the racingcalendar Good, you want to do
auto history.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
Well, mike said, do
auto history.
I could plug it in, but itwouldn't be worth it.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
All right, well,
let's do the race calendar.
Racing Racing, sponsored byTexas Muscle Car Club Challenge.
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
Texas Muscle Car
Challenge.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
NASCAR Muscle Car
Club.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
Challenge.
Thank you for that Muscle CarClub Challenge.
All right Thanks to Joey Loganobeing the champion of NASCAR
Penske livery.
So good for them.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
That's the yellow car
, Yellow number 22.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
Pennzoil.
Speaker 2 (22:44):
Pennzoil.
Penske's won everything inevery event this past year, imsa
and all that.
Does that surprise you?
No, nhra In-N-Out Burger, nhraFinals in Pomona Well so Pomona
got rained out yesterday.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
I think they got top
fuel in.
Yeah, I think they got top fuelin for the first round of
qualifying.
Yeah, and we'll see how thatgoes.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
Weather related and
you know all that good stuff.
It might run into Monday, wedon't know.
And then the last one we haveis, of course, formula One.
They are in Las Vegas StreetCircuit.
It's the Heineken Las VegasGrand Prix, the Heine Heineken,
and I think their trophy is likea giant stein.
I don't know, I think you mightdrink out of it.
No, I'm just kidding, I madethat up, but it's going on right
(23:32):
now.
It's in las vegas, and Ithought maybe las vegas would
learn a lesson from last year, because it people were not happy
but they signed a multi-yearcontract.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
That's their problem.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
Well, I mean the
people that live around there
and have to work and andeveryday stuff now they close
down all the streets yep, andyou can't get around and there's
, there's nastiness and allkinds of stuff beyond the normal
las vegas stuff.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
So my wife watches
all the shows and she came in
there one day and told me thatthey were on, whoever they were
talking to, good Morning America, whatever.
Whatever they were in Las Vegas, and Visit Las Vegas took them
around for a week, showing themall around about the race and
all the things that were goingto happen and all this other
stuff.
So they're really pushing thetourism to come to Las Vegasgas
(24:15):
to watch this race and they lost.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
Actually they lost
money you know that that as much
as I like automobile racing, Iwould not go to that.
The problem.
The problem is as a spectatorand it's actually that way at
the circuit of the americas it'sa road course.
Speaker 4 (24:33):
You're only going to
watch a couple of turns in a
straightaway somewhere, andthat's what I was telling her
that when we went to the COTAfor a couple of broadcasts, we
could be on that straightaway, but that's all we could see.
You couldn't see anything elseanywhere else, and the people in
the bleachers across from us,that's all they could see.
So it's not the Indy 500.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
Oh, let's go to the
Indy 500.
I've been to the Indy 500.
It's great Love going.
It's great to be there in thepresence of all of that.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
The problem is the
best that you can do two turns
and one straightaway.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
Yep, that's it.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
One of my girls went
up to Texas Motorplex and
watched a NASCAR race and theygot down.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
Low, wanted seats
down.
Speaker 4 (25:16):
No, no, no, no and
she got there and that's all
they could see was the blur theycouldn't see nothing right now,
as a matter of fact.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
Uh, one of my first
nascar races that I went to was
in talladega.
That's a two and two-thirdsmile course, so you can imagine
the back stretch is way overthere so I got the highest seat
I could get and I could seeeverything really you had to
have binoculars to see the carsgoing around.
(25:43):
They came by every 60 seconds orsomething, but still you gotta
sit.
You gotta sit a ways away tosee that the biggest mistake I
made one year is I went thereand sat in turn four.
Well, here they come all theway around in that 33-degree
banking at Talladega and they'rehauling buns Donkey.
(26:04):
At this particular time theywere doing over 200 miles an
hour.
Your eyes cannot see a cargoing by at 200 miles an hour.
It's a blur.
Speaker 4 (26:16):
That's what I've
heard.
That's what I'm always heard.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
Michigan
International Speedway.
My brother-in-law, jerry, was aphotographer in the Navy and he
used to get media passes, likeyou all do, for different things
.
And this was back at MichiganInternational, where they had
the holes cut in the fence forthe cameraman to spin the camera
as he went by.
Now it's all electronic and allthe other stuff that you do, but
we were looking through one ofthese.
Gordon Johncock was doing 210miles an hour, coming at us and
(26:41):
just blew us back.
It was the most amazing thingyou've ever seen and I'll never
forget it.
We were in the camera well atthe time, watching it and taking
our pictures and it was justamazing.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
No, it's too fast for
the human eye to keep up with.
When you're watching, you cansee it coming at you, but it
reaches a point where it turnsinto a blur as it goes past you.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
Then you can see it
going away, but in that split
second or two.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
It's like the Doppler
effect, but it's in vision.
Mr Mars, I've been holding alittle feature that you have Is
that what you guys are callingit To this segment At his age.
Wait a minute.
Is it really the time that I'mlooking at here?
We ain't got time for this.
No, we don't.
Ain't.
Speaker 2 (27:25):
nobody got time for
this, ain't got no time, but we
do have time to tell you tobring a toy unwrapped, get a
breakfast taco or you can donatecash Still got time.
Speaker 1 (27:36):
Beautiful day, it's
Toys for Tots and Houston
Children's Charity and they'retaking toys and they give you a
little ticket to go in there andget yourself a free breakfast
taco, get you a little ticket.
Yeah, so I've done some newsheadlines.
I got a couple I want to get inthis hour.
Business review website Yelprecently bought repair pal as it
(27:58):
explores expanding itsautomotive services offerings.
The purchase price for repairpal, which provides auto repair
locations and maintenanceestimates, was 80 million
dollars in cash.
The deal announced november 7th, expected to close by the end
of the year.
Advance Auto Parts said it willclose more than 500 stores by
(28:19):
the middle of next year and cutsome jobs under a restructuring
effort as demand for vehicleparts takes a hit from fewer
consumers opting to repair theirown cars.
The company posted athird-quarter net loss from
continuing operations of $25.3million, compared with a loss of
(28:40):
$74.1 million during the sameperiod last year.
They're in some deep doo-doothere.
Speaker 4 (28:46):
Well, if you think
about it, they're getting so
complicated you've got to have acomputer to even hook on to it.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
You can only sell so
many batteries.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
Yeah, exactly Either
that, or they want to be like
Nissan.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
If I were going to
buy auto parts and I've tried
them all Advance Pep.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
Boys O'Reilly.
Speaker 1 (29:05):
The one that is more
professional and that I've
always bought parts from.
It used to be Hylo or Charlie'sis now O'Reilly.
Speaker 4 (29:14):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
And I go in there.
I can always usually find whatI need, and if they don't have
it, they'll have it tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (29:20):
Right.
Speaker 1 (29:21):
Yeah, well, they used
to turn brake drums.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
They had a little
machine shop set up.
They used to do all kinds ofthings.
Speaker 2 (29:27):
Before I bought my
Buick, the guy down the street
used to work on my car for me,little incidental things and car
for me little incidental things, and he used to use Rock Auto.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
He used to do
everything online, you know I
don't have a problem with RockAuto, except for the fact that
it's good, better, best withthem, and if you want to buy
just the good, you're going toget some Chinese stuff.
That doesn't necessarily work,but that's the way it's going.
Speaker 4 (29:49):
And usually whenever
I'm working on something I mean
flow sensor the other day forone of the kids' cars I don't
want to wait two days to get it.
You know, I'm going to go downand find whoever's got it in
stock or can get it for metomorrow, and that's who.
I'm going to go Find somebodyto do it for you.
You're going down.
