Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good evening, everybody. My name is Eddie Garrison. I am
filling in for the coach Bob Lovel this weekend. Bob,
We'll be back next weekend. No need to worry. Week
number seven of the high school football season is upon us,
and the busiest guy that I know right now is
Network Indiana's Jase Hodge.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Once again, a pleasure to be with you, Eddie, along
with our producer Caleb Zuver on this Indiana high school
football Friday night. Let's go ahead and take a look
at some of the scores at the six A level.
Some more final scores to tell you about Brownsburg than
one team in the state. They defeat Zionsville thirty eight
to six. Bishop Chatard, they beat Harrison forty to twenty four.
(00:37):
Central takes down North Central forty nine to fourteen to
Canter Central. They take down green Wood sixty nine to
seven calrmalll if it's been Davis forty three zero. Martinsville
takes down a ranked Permiridian forty six to twenty one,
the Shamrocks of Westfield. They defeat Avon thirty eight to
twenty one. Columbus North falls at home to Bloomington South
fifty five to twenty four. Penn defeats Elkhart thirty four
(01:01):
to twelve. Carrol takes down Homestead forty nine nothing. Noblesville
they fall in a blowout to Hamilton Southeastern thirty one
to six. We heard about this Lawrence North and Warren
Central game that's currently forty nine to forty one in
the fourth quarter between those two schools. Jeffersonville they defeat
New Albany forty two to twenty seven. Some other scores
(01:22):
here in the state Indian high school football, Brownstown Central
they defeat Madison sixty three to seven. South Ridge defeats
Tel City sixty three to seven as well. Looking in
at the two A level, Trenton Central they defeat Indian
Creek seventeen to fourteen. Adam Central takes down Southern Wales
forty eight to seven. Lapel beats Heritage Christian thirty five
(01:45):
to seven. Providence they blow out Annapolis the Cina Memorial
fifty one to seven. Indianapolis Lutheran, always a top team
at the lower class level, they defeat Greenwood Christian Academy
sixty five to sixteen. And Final Bluffin they defeat Heritage
thirty five to zero and at the three A level
(02:06):
in Indian high school football, too night a few more
scores to tell you about. Owen Valley defeats West Vigo
forty seven to fifteen. Logan Sport wins a shootout between
West Lafayette forty four forty three. Logan Sport defeats West
Lafayette Concordia Lutheran. They defeat Fort Wayne Wayne twenty one
to twenty. Oak Hill takes down Blackford fifty four to seven.
In Mount Vernon, they fall sixty nine to seven to
(02:29):
Heritage Hills. Looking into some other football though, the NFL
kinds the Indianapolis Colts. They play on Sunday against Las
Vegas Raiders, and the Raiders Shane Stiken had a lot
to say about them. Let's go ahead and hear a
game preview from Shane Saiking about the Raiders.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
I olouls say a ton of respect for coach Pete
on what he's done in his career. They got to
help football team over there, just offensively, you know. Gent
obviously a top five pick, very talented player, very strong
at the point of contact, doesn't shy away from contact.
Strong runner Bowers is a hell of a player too,
can do it all at the tight end position. And
(03:05):
then just a ton of respect for Gino and what
he's done. Had a chance to be with him for
a year coaching him at the Chargers. Just a ton
of respect on his work ethic and how he went
about his business. And to see the success he's had
in Seattle and now with the Raiders, just a ton
of respect there.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
And then defensively, got some talented players. Obviously Crosby is
a hell of a football player. Just more respect for him.
Just a relentless motor guy. Uh, that makes a ton
of plays all over the field. So a lot of
respect for these guys. But looking forward to the challenge,
you know, being back at home and Luke Hoyles.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Should be good, and with the Colts coming off a
loss against Los Angeles Rams quarterback danel Jones says there's
a bit of a sense of urgency to get back
on the win.
Speaker 5 (03:46):
Coling, Yeah, I think it's a super high sense of urgency.
I think, uh, yeah, we're all we're all determined to
get back out there and play well.
Speaker 6 (03:54):
You know.
Speaker 5 (03:54):
I don't think there's an idea that we need to,
you know, necessarily turn things around. I think It's about,
you know, getting getting back to what we what we
do and executing well, learning from what we didn't do
as well last week, and continuing to improve as a
team every week.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
The Colts and the Raiders Sunday at one PMS. The
Colts look to move to four and one and stay
atop the AFC South do Division. Looking into Major League Baseball,
we've gone from wildcard now to Divisional Series. Two teams
locally still fighting along in the MLB playoffs at the
Chicago Cubs. They have Game one in Milwaukee tomorrow at
(04:31):
two o eight pm. And then and then the Detroit Tigers.
After defeating Cleveland, they take gone the Seattle Mariners tomorrow
night at eight thirty eight pm.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Ten o'clock. We're on a Friday night. Thank you for
tuning in to Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk. I'm Eric
Garrison filling in for the coach Bob Lovels Coles. Starting
to roll in. We'll start with Andrew Smith of Newpalradio
dot Com. Andrew Good evening.
Speaker 7 (04:56):
Yeah, Hi, EDDIEO. It's another workmanlike effort by the Dragons
tonight as they defeat the Shelbyville Golden Bears sixty five
to three. The Dragons moved to seven to zero on
the year, and newpald looked like the route was on early,
as Jacob Davis, the quarterback, took the first play from
Scrimmagh sixty six yards for a touchdown. New Palace scored
(05:17):
on the first play, or excuse me, the first drive
of every game this season. But it was a six
to three game after the first quarter, and the Dragons
were on the ropes a little bit. Shelbyville ran the
ensuing kickoff. Grantlin Fitzgerald had a long return to the
seventeen yard line, but New Palace defense, which has allowed
just the number ones have allowed one touchdown all season,
(05:39):
boat Up forced a turnover on downs inside the five
yard line, but again the Golden Bears forced a turnover,
drove it into the red zone again had to settle
for a field goal to make it six to three.
And you're thinking, well, Shelbyville is a much improved team,
and they were showing it, and they may put a
(05:59):
little sk the air into the Dragons for a while,
and then all of a sudden, the second quarter happened.
New Palace scores thirty six points in the second quarter.
The first play, Jacob Davis hits Mason Oglesby for an
eight yard touchdown, and then all of a sudden, it
was a parade of three and outs by Shelbyville and
newpal capitalizing quickly. Game Jacobi had a touchdown around Jacob
(06:19):
Davis had another touchdown, a blocked punt led to Garrett
Rains recovering a score in the end zone, and the
Dragons had the hat trick for the second straight week.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
They scored on.
Speaker 7 (06:29):
Offense, they scored on defense as Josh Rains had a
pick six later in the game, and they had the
special teams touchdown with a block punt return. That's their
third block punt taken back for a touchdown this season,
and so the Dragons ended up winning big. They led
forty two to three a half time, then added points
(06:50):
with the second unit in in the second half. Had
four hundred and sixty two yards total offense the night.
It was Jacob Davis doing things both on both in
the running game and the passing game. He had one
hundred and sixty one yards on nine carries and two touchdowns.
Rushing was nine of twelve fo one hundred nineteen yards
and two touchdowns passing. His completion percentage the last four
(07:11):
weeks is above eighty percent. And also New Palace defense,
as I mentioned the number Ones have allowed one touchdown
all season. This is the third time in four weeks
they've held a team below sixty five yards of total offense,
as they held Shelbyville to forty six yards tonight. So
Dragon's now seven to zero on the season. They've got
(07:31):
Newcastle next week for Senior Night in Shelbyville three and four.
One more win for them would give them their most
win since twenty seventeen. So they're a program that's still
putting things together, but they're on the way up, and
they're freshman quarterback Leaden Fitzgerald looks good early. He ended
up struggling a little bit later in the game, but
the pieces are coming together for Shelby Villa, just didn't
(07:54):
show it tonight against a very good newpal team that's
really hitting on all cylinders right now.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
And it's pretty rare that you see a team like
New pal or any team for that matter at the
high school level pretty much dominate the way that they
have through the first seven weeks of the year. So
I'm sure Kyle Ralph was pleased to see some adversity
to have to overcome early in the game to see
how his team we'll respond as you're nearing the end
of the regular season.
Speaker 7 (08:17):
Yeah, and they went back to last year's game in
which newpal against Shelby that led fourteen to nothing in
a halftime, and he felt like they didn't play well
and they didn't respond well to to some of the adversity,
and they ended up finally pulling away and winning that game.
But tonight it was, okay, we've got a little bit
(08:38):
of adversity, we're not playing well early, and then all
of a sudden, it was like they flipped the light
switch and they played a lot of complimentary football. Score
on offense, get a three and out, get the ball back.
On defense, special teams able to get a nice return,
a few nice returns, or block a punt or create
big plays, and that's how you win football game. Right now,
(09:00):
the plan really isn't, hey, let's uh, you know, let's
vanquish our conference opposition. As they've been playing games in
which they're a heavy favorite, and they will for the
last two weeks of the season against Newcastle and Delta.
It's we know we've got Cathedral looming in the sectional.
We know we've got playing field looming in the sectional.
We're going to have to be one or two really
(09:20):
really good football teams just to get out of the
sectional and to get to where they want to go.
So they're trying to make sure they continue to play
at a really high level, knowing that that state tournament
is coming up. And they passed that test this week
and have another one next week with Newcastle.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
As Andrew Smith the Newpala Radio, Andrew enjoyed the rest
of your weekend.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
We'll do. Thank you, Eddie.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
That's Andrew Smith. The Dragons sixty five to three over
Shelbyville and they'll have Newcastle next week. Still a lot
to come. It is a busy Friday night here on
Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk. Jays Hodge is an incredibly
busy man. I know he's in there. I think I
see him. I don't know if Caleb producer calebs Zuer,
I don't know if you see him in there. He's
(10:05):
like sweating bullets with how hard he is working on
Friday nights are not kind, man. It's tough work out here.
That's the voice of Caleb Uber, our producer here on
Indiana Sports Talk. To on also Jared Lewis, who just
called in like twenty minutes ago, decided to make an
appearance in the studio. So shout out to Jared. Much
more to come. Speaking of Jayce Hodge, He's coming up next.
What the scoreboard up? They on network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
I'm Jay Sodge with this Indiana Sports Talk scoreboard updates.
Beginning things here with the four to a level. Jasper
defeats Castle twenty eight to seven. Pilton Heights defeats Delta
forty nine to six. Run Collige they fall to LaSalle
twenty two to fourteen. The Rebels fall South Bend Saint Joseph.
They defeat South End Rally twenty one to six. Heritage
(10:51):
Hills they thrump Mount Vernon sixty nine to seven. A
Battle of Fort Wayne. Fort Wayne north Side defeats Fort
Wayne South Side twenty eight to thirteen. Martinsville they defeat
Palmbridy and on the Road forty six to twenty one.
Northfield takes down South Puttingham forty eight to thirty three.
Logan's Port wins a shootout against West Laviaette, West Lafayette
(11:12):
forty four to forty three.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
Whiteland.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
They defeat Moorsville on the road thirty five to fourteen.
Charlestown defeats Cordon Central twenty seven to six. New Palestine
the number one team in Class five A that they
take down Chebbyville sixty five to three. Yorktown wins the
ranked game against Greenfield Central thirty five to nothing. Northwood
defeats Plymouth forty one to fourteen. Newcastle they defeat Mount
(11:35):
Vernon fifty seven to twenty eight. Lebanon wins a big
game against Danville thirty eight to thirty five. Leo takes
down huntings In North thirty five to twenty eight, and finally,
East Noble defeats Columbia City forty one two ten. A
quick look at Class three A as well. Evansville Evansville
Memorial wins the Battle of Evansville over Evansville Wrights twenty
eight to seven. Laville defeats Glenn forty five nothing. Garrett
(11:59):
takes down Fairfield two once he won to fourteen. Heritage
they fall at home thirty five and nothing. Franklin County
wins it close, one to twenty eight seventeen against South
Deerborn and Gola. They fall thirty five seven against andre
And and Dean Creek. They fall just shy against right
in Cetl seventeen to fourteen.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
Nice job, Jays. My name's Edda Garrison. I'm feeling in
for the coach Bob. Well, he'll be back next week.
No need to sweat everything's aokay with coaches. Got an
event to intend this weekend and unfortunately he just couldn't
do the show. So they asked me to fill it,
and I'm doing my best to do so. A voice
that you hear on these airwaves sometimes on Friday nights,
(12:40):
but typically on Saturdays, that is John Herrick. Of course
you are familiar with his voice across network Indiana with
WIBC tonight. He's with the ISIC Sports Network, John, not mistaken.
You had Laurence Central and North Central tonight, correct.
Speaker 6 (12:55):
Yeah. And it was a very strange game, Addie. I
mean this was a game that was a very hard bought,
you know, typical Mick battle between two rivals that don't
like each other. There were a lot of penalties, There
were thirty two combinmentalies, there was a lot of pushing
and shoving after the play. You know, I'm no, I'm
not telling you anything. You don't know. It's the way,
(13:15):
you know, these rides love to play against each other,
whether it's you know, Lawrence North, Lawrence Central, Lawrence Central,
North Central, they all they all have a lot of
edge too. But it was North Central led this game
fourteen to seven, and then Laurence Central tied right before halftime,
so it was fourteen all the half, and then Laurence
(13:36):
Central just completely bulldozes North Central in the second half.
It goes on to win forty nine to fourteen. So
else came into this game as the team that was
favorite on paper, and they certainly lived up to that
bill a second half. I'm not sure what their head
coach Will Patterson said to them at half time, but
whatever he said, it certainly resonated and it worked perfection.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
Yeah, I know, Will Patterson's got be happy with this
group with where they're at right now. But the same
can be said for Colin Copra at North Central. They
ended that thirty two game losing streak earlier this year,
They've been able to win two games this year. What
stood out to you about North Central? Even though in
the loss that was different from years past.
Speaker 6 (14:15):
Well, I think they've got a pretty good quarterback at
Chase Grove, and they've got an explosiveness at the wide
receiver position. Demetrius a. Britt scored two touchdowns tonight off
off of pieces from Chase Grove. Their defense as an
issue at times this year. They're giving up about forty
points a game and the defense certainly with the problem
(14:36):
in the last few years. But you're seeing better defensive
play in the line play front than you were in
the previous years when they were going endless. So you
got a better quarterback, your running game is solid, it's
better than it has been, and then you're getting more
explosiveness out of the wide feaver positions and why they've
been able to get these two wins this year, and
(14:58):
their last two games games are on the road, but
they are against Pike and they are against Ben Davis,
two teams that have struggled this season. So they're very
winnable opportunities for North Central and they have a chance
to go into the postseason with more wins on the year,
which is a huge improvement over three straight winless seasons.
(15:20):
And on the opposite side, for Lawrence, Central. You've got
to be feeling great about yourself because last year you
were four and six after the regular season was over.
Now you're four and three. So you've won as many
games this year as you did all of last year,
and you've got a chance to get five, maybe even
more wins than that by the time the season is over.
So these are two football programs that have made stride
(15:43):
this year.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
John, I know you were a lot of hats tonight
you with Ice Sports Network typically on Saturday nights here
with Don Fisher and Buck Sewer with Indiana Football and
the radio crew. I know, I use off this week
so to kind of encapsulate what's been the most impressive
thing so far from Kurt Signetti and your number two.
Speaker 6 (16:02):
I mean just the overall consistency, the way that they
just find a way to play incredible, complimentary football. And
I think Signetti just did He's a quarterback whisper, he
really is. I mean, he did a great job nurturing
his getting Curtis rok has that's a great year last year.
And Fernando Mondota. People are talking about him like he's
(16:25):
in Heisman Trophy candidate, which he very well. Maybe that
this upcome him against Oregon is going to do a
lot to show whether he will stay a Heisman Trophy
candidate or whether he falls out of that race. I mean,
he got to play well on the road against a
very tough opponent. I watched Oregon play at Penn State
last week. Oregon is a really tough Dan Lanning is
(16:47):
the heck of a job with that team on both
sides of the ball. Indiana can certainly move the football
on offense. What I've been most impressed with has been
their defensive play as well, because they're getting pressure on
quarterbacks and they're finding a way to stop the run,
and which you need to do. You need to be
able to run the football, and you've got to be
able to play physical at the point of attack and
(17:09):
not let the opposing quarterbacks dissect you so that you
can give your offense just to win, because sometimes your
offense won't always be playing at peak performance, like it
was against Iowa when they still but the defense hung
in there, the running game hung in there, and this
team just plays really, really well and compliment each other
(17:30):
when one aspect of the game may not be going
so well. So Signette's just done a great job in
all three phases with this group.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
Will you sound like kurtsin there at the end talking
about playing in all three phases and doing it? Well, John,
I think you're taking up all this coach speak.
Speaker 6 (17:45):
Well, you know, I do listen to the man talk
a lot. I certainly have faid attention to what he
says to coaches. Shows. Yeah, I that win against Illinois
was something else to you at home, I mean, setting
an attendance record, and now it was announced today. I
don't know, you probably saw this, Eddie if he did.
But now they're sold out for the rest of the
home games throughout the rest of the regular season, which
(18:07):
is not surprising. I mean, with the way they played
against Illinois, the way they won against Iowa. You know,
the fans, this fan base is now more than believing
they are. Now they're expecting to win, you know, not
just hoping to win or thinking you might win. It's
now expecting to win, which is what Kurt Signetty wanted.
I mean when they came out first game of the
season and they struggled against Old Dominion, who, by the way,
(18:29):
looking pretty good these last few weeks. I mean, he said, hey,
it's great our fan base expects us to play better
than we did. I want us to play better than
we did, and it's just been a steady growth and
imprint every week ever since then. So and I think
this high week came at the right time so guys
can get healthy and get ready for what would be
an incredibly exciting game out in Egen.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
John, thanks for the cole enjoying the rest of your weekend,
all right, thank you so much.
Speaker 4 (18:56):
EDDI.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
The shift things now to Martinsville, the Rtesians Feeth the
Perry Meridian Falcons tonight forty six, twenty one, and I'm
now joined by a very happy Brian Duger of Martinsville coach.
Congratulations on the win.
Speaker 8 (19:09):
Hey, thanks appreciate it. It's been up and down for
us and nice for us to come out and play
some good football, you know, for sessially with having seven
eight starters out tonight due to injury, and our kids
just fought and got a win tonight.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
Who stepped up of those out of those seven to
eight players who had to step up to contribute to
the wind.
Speaker 8 (19:29):
Tonight, well, we had a bunch of kids have to
step up. But Chase Davis, our quarterback, was really good tonight.
He was fifteen to twenty for three hundred and ninety
five yards and five touchdowns.
Speaker 6 (19:41):
Landon Casey was huge, and so was Lana Potter.
Speaker 8 (19:45):
Casey had eight catches finished with two touchdowns at one
hundred and eighty yards and Lana Potter have had four
catches for one hundred and thirty yards and two touchdowns.
So we threw it pretty well tonight. And you know,
our defense was huge in the first have held them
to seven points. We got the running clock going, and uh,
(20:05):
just just glad. I'm really happy for our kids.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
You know, it was a big week for US coach. Obviously,
you talked to all your kids pretty regularly as a
high school coach, so you're pretty plugged into this. Back
when I was in high school, the hangout spot, at
least for me after games and celebration was like going
to Buffalo Wild Wings or a stick and shake in
the Martinsville area. I don't know if you can speak
for yourself or you can speak for your your football players.
Where's the hangout spot after a win?
Speaker 8 (20:28):
Well, I know there's always a huge line, uh that
dairy queen. Whenever we get a win, they do half
price blizzard, So a little plug there for.
Speaker 9 (20:38):
Our Martinsville dairy queen. But you know, the taco bell
is pretty.
Speaker 8 (20:42):
Long line as well, so uh, you know, the kids
go get the food and then hopefully go home and.
Speaker 9 (20:47):
Get some rest.
Speaker 8 (20:47):
But yeah, like I said, I'm proud of our kids.
They had a great week of practice and it showed
this week.
Speaker 1 (20:53):
Coach, you got Mars Well next week, best of luck
against the Pioneers.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
Yeah, a big rivalry game.
Speaker 8 (20:58):
We played for a trophy and and Mike Gillen's one
of the best arounds, so we'll have to We'll have
to have another good week of practice and hopefully keep
the entrophy at home.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
Coach, thanks for calling in, congratulations on the win and
best of luck next week.
Speaker 9 (21:12):
Hey, thanks, appreciate all you guys do.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
That's Brian Duger, the head coach of the Martinsville on Rutesians.
They defeat Perry Meridian tonight and they will take on
Moresville next week. Chris Norton, Bill Peebles like cathedral, Brian Sullivan,
all on hole, We'll get to you in a minute.
But you know how it works around here, We've got
to get to the man who every fifteen minutes. Kiss
you up to down on what's going around the state
of Indiana. Coming up a scoreboard update with Network Indiana's
(21:38):
Jays Hodge. Right here on Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
I'm Jay Sodge with Indiana Sports Talk Update. It's like
a look now at Class two A and one A.
At the Class two A level, Sullivan beats Edgewood twenty
eight to twenty one. B Only beats Crawford County forty
nine to seventeen. Sheridan takes down Delfi Community forty five
to six. A closer game here between Northeastern and Shenandoah
(22:03):
fifty to forty three. Shenandoah is the victors in that game.
Lapel they defeat herrit Christian thirty five to seven. Adam
Central takesdown South Southern Wales forty eight to seven. Linton
Stockton they defeat North Knox fifty four to seven in
a blowout closer game here, though Triton Central Indian Creek
played with seventeen to fourteen final as the as Titan
(22:25):
Central gets the victory over Indian Creek. Andrean they defeat
Angola thirty five to seven. Cloverdale over Brown County and
a whopping sixty seven to zero final score. Fountain Central
takesdowns holf for a Million fifty one to six, Oak
Hill over Blackford fifty four to seven. Eastern Hancock. They
defeat Milan forty to seven. South Mont twenty six twenty
(22:47):
three winners over Western Boone and then Culver Academies. They
fall forty to twenty four against Culver Academies. Class one A.
Laville beats Glenn forty five nothing. South Puttingham loses North
View forty eight to thirty three. Frontier meets Tri County
sixty two to eight. West Washington blows out Perry Central
forty nine to eight. Springs Valley defeats Tacomsa thirty one nothing,
(23:12):
North Posy over Forest Park forty two to seven. North
Miami is fifty three to six winners over South Central,
and finally, Riverton Park defeats Attica fifty nine to six.
Aweso Nights Down sixty one fifty nine over Try.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
Indiana Sports Talk rolling along on week number seven of
the high school football season. My name is Eddie Eurison,
filling in for the coach Bob Lovel. No need to worry, coach,
We'll be back next week. Just had an event that
he had to attend this weekend and couldn't host the show,
so I'm filling in for him tonight. Two of the
best games in Central Indiana. We will talk about them
in a matter of moments. We will start with Cathedral.
(23:52):
They took on Sina Growth tonight in a very happy
Bill Peebles joins us from Cathedral. Coach, congratulations on the.
Speaker 10 (23:58):
Win, Thanks, eddieppreciated is a great win for us.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
It was one of the more highly sought after games
across the state. Had your team defeat Center Grove tonight
twenty one to fifteen.
Speaker 10 (24:08):
I mean it was.
Speaker 11 (24:09):
It was a very physical football game, as all our
games all with these guys, lower scoring than the last
few years have been. But our defense, special teams were great,
offense was good enough, good complimentary football, and you know,
there was just great complimentary football being played and beating
a great team like Center Grove.
Speaker 1 (24:29):
Four of your five wins this year I'm looking at
have all been by one score. What have you liked
about your team that has been able to pull out
some of these close wins this season?
Speaker 11 (24:39):
They've been really resilient. You know, two of them will
come from behind victories and one against the Targe and
then won last week against Trotwood, which is a really
good team out of Ohio, you know, and tonight we
had that lead. Tonight, we're up twenty one to six
at one point. They scored late and then we had
to recover an onside kick the hold on and we
(25:00):
held on. And so we've been resilient and we've overcome
a lot of injuries this year, and our guys have
been outstanding when it comes to facing adversity and overcoming it.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
I know Xavier Dangerfield has been one of your primary
players from a nightly basis who made some big place
tonight for your team.
Speaker 4 (25:16):
Well, Xavier was hurt.
Speaker 11 (25:18):
He's one of our guys that's injured, so Jimmy Papp
has replaced him. They had one hundred yards against a
stingy Center Grove defense. Cam Corse at over one hundred
and eighty yards passing and a touchdown, and then our
defense was really our catalyst tonight, eight sacks on the
quarterback for Center Grove, which kept us in the game
and led directly to one touchdown and then to a
(25:39):
couple of field goals. So you know, it is a defense,
special teams and offense was good enough tonight.
Speaker 1 (25:44):
Next up for Cathedral, they're at Comington, which is a
school in Kentucky. Coach, best of luck next week.
Speaker 10 (25:51):
Thank you very much, thank you.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
That's Bill Peebles of Cathedral. Now let's go to North Decatur.
They defeat Eastern Green tonight in a very happy Chris
Stevens joins US from North to Cator coach. Congratulations on
the win, Thanks Eddie.
Speaker 4 (26:05):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
Fifty nine to fourteen over Easton Green. And I don't
know how familiar with our with famous alums, but a
guy that I worked with that used to go to
Easter Green, JMV is probably not happy. So how'd your
team defeat his team tonight?
Speaker 11 (26:18):
Uh?
Speaker 9 (26:18):
You know it was Uh, it was a good contest
for US. I mean we we got up pretty early
on in the uh in the game, had a good
first quarter. Our offense was really clicking doing well. Cormn
Zachery senior running back, had a lot of good solid
moving the ball. Our front line was really really tough.
(26:39):
I thought they played played a great game tonight and
it was just, you know, kind of one of those
where you get up a few scores and then we
were able to spread the ball around. And I thought
our quarterback, Matt You feeled out a pretty good night.
I don't have any stats yet, but uh, but he
moved the ball well and was able to throw it
in tempo.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
It was a pretty good night.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
Last week, you lose to a pretty solid Linton Stockton
team on the road. What did you like about the
way your team responded this week in practice that ultimately
led to the dominating performance against Easter Green this evening.
Speaker 9 (27:12):
Uh, you know, it was so Lynn was a great
barometer for us. It was a great, great opportunity for
us to say, look, we went and played a really
good football team, and the guys responded really well.
Speaker 10 (27:22):
They they had a great week of practice.
Speaker 9 (27:24):
They were really dialed in. They know that we're heading
into uh you know, heading into the into the postseason,
and they're.
Speaker 6 (27:33):
They're ready to to rock and roll. And so I thought.
Speaker 9 (27:35):
They really did well. We're a little little banged up,
so a lot of a lot of rehab, a lot
of uh, you know, getting our getting our bodies right.
And you know, it was a really tough physical game
that we played against Linton, but it was great. It
was a homecoming for US. So we had homecoming festivities
this week and uh, I thought they responded really well
(27:57):
and they have their eye and the right spot.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
That's Chris Stevens from North to kiddor coach you do
you have next week.
Speaker 9 (28:05):
We've got Edinburgh next week, so another conference opponent for US,
and so Eastern Green was a good, good sectional opponent.
You know, you get to see them early before the
postseason and the next week we'll finish out our conference
play at home and you're.
Speaker 6 (28:21):
Ready to go.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
Thanks for calling in. Best of luck and enjoy the
rest of your weekend.
Speaker 4 (28:25):
Wen, I appreciate it.
Speaker 9 (28:26):
Thanks man, he Goods.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
Have a great night you too. One of those other
Central Indiana games that was very very closely monitored, at
least in this studio, Lawrence North and Warren Central over
one hundred points scored. Greg great Straw of the ISIC
Sports Network had the call with that game. Greg, You're
not short of highlights on this one tonight, that's for sure.
Speaker 10 (28:47):
Crazy one.
Speaker 12 (28:48):
Warren Central scored forty two points in the first half
and lost the football game. Any it was forty one
and a half time. Wow, Warren scored the first six
times they touched the ball. Lawrence North only allowed one
touchdown drive in the second half. Then they scored forty
(29:09):
two points in the second half and Eddie, we had
a player for each team account for six touchdowns in
the Knight's game. Jack Quillan, the sophomore quarterback for Warren Central,
threw by my totals for four hundred and thirteen yards
twenty eight for forty four, six touchdowns and an interception,
(29:32):
but that was trumps by same Moore for Lawrence North,
who finished the game with twenty seven carries, two hundred
and ninety seven yards and six rushing touchdowns, including one
from sixty seven yards out with less than thirty seconds
to play to cap it and put away to win
and likely the Mick Championship for Lawrence Storm.
Speaker 1 (29:55):
Earlier this week, Monchin Sales, the standout junior wide out
for Lawrence North, was just job as a FI Life
start recruit. How do you think he responded after that?
In this game tonight against Warren Central.
Speaker 12 (30:06):
He had four catches one hundred and four yards. They
have him playing both ways. He's playing some safety. I
think he is just as effective as a safety as
he is as a as a receiver. But again he's
an NFL level receiver. At some point in time he
had catches for forty and forty three at a touchdown.
Draft for sixteen Moore was so good they didn't have
(30:26):
to throw the ball as much to night and is
a Moore rush for Joshiah three hundred quarterback Darien praither
ran for one hundred and thirty four yards tonight for
Lawrence Grope as well. But yes, Sale too is a junior,
is the sixth rated player in his class in the country,
and you name the school he's got an offer from him.
Likely at this point, the.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
Only blemish on that record for Lawrence North is against Fisher's.
Next up for them Center Grove Warren Central. They've got Carmel,
greg What's next for you?
Speaker 12 (30:56):
What's next for me is DePaul and Oberlin tomorrow afternoon,
then Indy Eleaven and Low City tomorrow night, and then
the Colts game on Sunday. From a Friday night standpoint,
I'll see Warren Central again next week when they take
on carm So.
Speaker 1 (31:11):
After an Indie eleven win tomorrow night, you're calling back into.
Speaker 12 (31:13):
Me, I'm going to call in regardless, and let's hope
it's an Indy eleven win against by far and away
the best team in the USL Championship.
Speaker 1 (31:22):
Well that's so Greg and enjoy have a great rest
of your night. Have a good pair of calls tomorrow.
Speaker 12 (31:27):
Thanks Eddie.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
That's great Rakshaw from the IC Sports Network of voice
that you used to hear on these airwaves. Chris Norton
down in Jasper from w Iz Jasper twenty eight castle seven.
Speaker 13 (31:37):
Good evening, Chris, Hey, Eddie, thanks for having me on
me to rank saddle on a homecoming down.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
In Jasper tonight.
Speaker 13 (31:44):
Two really good teams too, of the best in southwestern Indiana.
Jasper was riding that homecoming high goes down scores back
at Holsworth from Jalen Maner's twenty six points, a black
punt from Blake and Raker, Jasper par leagues band into
a Max Butel rushing touchdown, and Jasper off to the
races twenty one to zero. At halftime, they'd scored the
first twenty eight points and limit the Casle Knights to
(32:08):
one hundred and forty one total yards, three interceptions Mason Zizetti,
Jack Levin, Ethan Young all tonight and start to finish
Jasper's starting to put things together at a now winners
of sixth strip, Oh.
Speaker 1 (32:22):
I'd say so, winning six straights, certainly putting things together.
After that week one lost to Evansville Memorial, What have
you seen from this group? Because you pretty much have
all their games throughout the course of the season. That's
ultimately led to the six in a row.
Speaker 13 (32:35):
You know what? It's the message coming across from a
new coaching staff and drawing Evansville Memorial trying to figure
things out is usually a very tough spot to be in.
Speaker 4 (32:46):
Week number one.
Speaker 13 (32:47):
So we've seen the week over week over week improvement.
The defense is lights out as we saw this evening.
Offense didn't have a stellar night, but still able to
do enough take advantage of short field and special teams
coming across to Jasper team to watch four in that
sectional twenty four and four it.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
Chris enjoyed the the Schnitz. If you enjoy that this
weekend at all. If not have a great weekend, absolutely,
that's Chris Norton from Witz down in jass War. Still
more to come here on Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
Does Network Indiana scoreboard update? I'm Jay Sodge. Before we
get to Classics A and five A one score. I
want you guys to hear about at the Class three
A level. How about the Castcade Cadets ninety eight to
thirteen winners over Greencastle. Yep, you heard that right. Ninety
eight points scored by Cascade in that win over Greencastle.
Now into the six to A level, browns Burg the
(33:44):
number one team in the state. They defeat Zionsville thirty
eight to six Para Meridian. They fall forty six to
twenty one at home against Martinsville. We heard about the
Lawrence North game. They won forty nine forty one comeback
winners over Warren Central. Fishers outlasts Franklin Central thirty six
to thirty five, winning a big six A game crown Point.
(34:06):
They defeat Laporte forty two to seven. Avon falls at
the hands of Westfield thirty eight to twenty one. Columbus
North they lose at home fifty five twenty four to
Bloomington South Penn defeats Elkhart thirty four to twelve. Cathedral
gets a big win over Center Grove twenty one to fifteen.
Hamilton Southeastern. They get the victory as well, thirty one
(34:28):
to six over Noblesville Southport. They get a win thirty
six zero over Tara Hote North Vigo, and then Jeffersonville
defeats New Albany forty two to twenty seven. And at
the five eight level the number one team, and there's
New Palestine they won sixty five to three over Shelbyville.
Some new final scores tell you about though. McCutcheon. They
lost thirty four to seven to Tara Hote, South Vigo,
(34:50):
Bloomington North of ITAs, Columbus East forty two nothing, white
Land over Moorsville thirty five to fourteen. Plainfield takes down
Rank Mcommunity thirty to six. Monsey Central blows out Anderson
forty two and a six. Log of games around the
state happening.
Speaker 1 (35:06):
Now you got that, Rice Jage. My name, my name's
Eddie Garrison. Thank you for tuning in to Network. Indiana's
Indiana Sports Stock, brought to you by Indiana Donor Network,
their website driven Tuesday Lives dot org. We'll continue the calls,
a lot of them rolling in. We'll go with Brian
Sullivan from WNAS Brian, good evening, Hello, sir.
Speaker 10 (35:30):
How are you well? Did not have quite the game
that we thought we might look like on paper, we'd
have a pretty close one down here in Providence tonight,
but the Pioneers all over.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
Scina final score to nine, fifty one to seven.
Speaker 10 (35:46):
Have this one play out really uncompetitive right from the start.
And this is a Sassina team that in three of
their four wins they've scored at least forty eight points.
So it's a team that's got a potentially explosive offense.
But Providence, I know a lot of times when we
call in, we talk a lot about quarterbacks and running backs.
(36:07):
Got to give some love to the Providence defense. They
held Cecina to eleven rushing yards on the evening, but
they also had three interceptions. So just a really dominant
effort by Providence after pitching a shutout last week. It
looks like the defending State champs defense is starting to
come around and maybe this is a team that's loading
(36:28):
up for another run.
Speaker 1 (36:30):
Highlight some of those guys on defense. They had a
solid performance for the Providence tonight.
Speaker 10 (36:36):
You know, they got them from a lot of guys,
but the Bermuda's kid got two interceptions and one of
those came one of the highlights for Cecina, and there
were few. They got an eighty five yard kickoff return
took them down to the three yard line and then
Bermuda's gets an interception there in the end zone to
squelch that rally there. But really just the defensive line
(36:59):
did a great getting some penetration back there. Really, they
ended up with eleven yards the seen the diad and
twenty eight of those came from a backup quarterback on
the last play of the game. Otherwise they would have
been a negative yardage for the night. So it was
just a good team effort there by. The defense all
around pretty rare.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
You get an off week next Friday night, how are
you going to spend it?
Speaker 10 (37:21):
You know, I'm just waiting for my marching orders here.
But it looks like a lot of the conferences tonight
in the area got wrapped up. Floyd Central got a
win to win their conference, so I'm not sure what
the big one will be there, but we'll have something
to call in for you.
Speaker 1 (37:35):
That's Brian Sullivan at wnas Brian, enjoyed the rest of
your weekend and thanks for calling in.
Speaker 10 (37:40):
Thank Eddy.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
Moving on now, we get another coach, Roger Pennington from
Salem in his first year they pick up a win
tonight forty four or fourteen over Eastern Peaking coach, congratulations
on the win. Thanks, I know this is the first year,
third win of the year and now three and four.
Have you liked the way that the team has been
able to develop over the course of the season.
Speaker 4 (38:02):
Our offense is really starting to click. We are a
run heavy offense, and tonight we had a couple of
guys who over one hundred yards. Again, last week we
were rushed before hundred and fifty yards as a team
and had three backs over one hundred. So we'd like
to pride ourselves on being a running football team.
Speaker 1 (38:20):
I'd say so. You put fifty three points up last
week forty four this week. Do you have any specific
type of backs that you want to shout out tonight
for their performance?
Speaker 4 (38:29):
Karris Moore, senior full back tonight nineteen carries I think
one hundred and thirty five yards and a touchdown. I
believe he's one of our senior captains. He's a real
big part of our football team, starting middle linebacker and
night with senior night as well, we said goodbye to
eight seniors on our home field tonight. Hopefully we'll get
a good sectional draw and we can have one more.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
Before that though, you'll have Charleston next week. I wish
you the best of the luck and thank you for
calling you tonight. Congrats on the win.
Speaker 4 (38:56):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (38:56):
That's Roger Pennington of Salem. Josh Yoder big win tonight
for his team eleven and thirty five over Daneville. Coach,
congratulations on the win.
Speaker 14 (39:06):
Yeah, thanks a lot.
Speaker 9 (39:07):
These kids played really, really hard.
Speaker 1 (39:09):
Just a close one from all the time out? Or
do you have to come from behind to de v
Daneville today?
Speaker 14 (39:15):
I mean we were ahead the whole game. Actually they led,
I think they scored the first one. Then we pushed
it out to twenty eight fourteen at halftime, and then
they came back tied it up. We kicked a field
goal which ended up being the difference in the game, and.
Speaker 10 (39:30):
Scored one more late.
Speaker 4 (39:32):
Uh so we were up.
Speaker 14 (39:33):
Thirty eight to twenty eight, and they went down with
about four minutes to go, scored again on sidekick. We
got it and then ran the clock out.
Speaker 1 (39:43):
Coach, you've now won six consecutive games. What's it gonna
take to pick up win number seven in a row?
Next week at terre Hio North.
Speaker 14 (39:50):
To be honest with you, it's just practice making sure
we prepare the right way each day.
Speaker 10 (39:56):
You know.
Speaker 14 (39:56):
It's just one of those things that we've trying to
stayed the course. We haven't looked at We just kind
of do what we do.
Speaker 1 (40:02):
Thanks coach, best of luck and having great rest of
your weekend. Almost an hour and a half of the
two and a half hour show is complete. My name's
Eddie Garrison filling in for the coach Bob Lovell. It
certainly flies by when you're having a lot of fun,
you're having a lot of callers, and especially with head
coaches that are victorious. That is the case tonight for
Darren Fisher. Whiteland defeats from Moresville in the Mid State
(40:25):
Conference thirty five fourteen. Coach, congratulations on the win.
Speaker 4 (40:29):
Thank you, sir. It was it was a pretty good
team win again for us.
Speaker 1 (40:33):
I know Coach Gillen's teams are always a challenge to
prepare for. What were you worried about going into the
game They were able to execute and finish on top tonight.
Speaker 4 (40:42):
Well, I think you know, they throw the football very well.
I think a cruise for them has been their starter
for a while. And Denny's I'm the good looking receiver,
and you know, they're they're difficult to defend. And I
thought what we did very well tonight was you know,
we always you know, the wave crashing over the railing
of the ship. At the beginning of the game, we
(41:02):
got up seven to nothing, we hit a huge play,
and then we were able to steal a possession with
an on side kick after the first score and be
up fourteen to nothing in the first four minutes. And
then we got it. We got a great interception and
turned it into another score and we were up twenty
one oho in the first quarter. And then you know,
at that point we were able to kind of kind
(41:23):
of you know, we ran the ball well, like our
defense played great. We got three stops in the red
zone out of four trips. Offensively, we were one hundred
percent down in the red zone. That's been a critical
element for us. Third quarter, you know, to be honest, offensively,
we we just kind of shot ourselves on the foot.
We were behind the chains. But like I said, our
(41:45):
defense got you know, two of those red zone stops
in the third quarter, and our punt team was phenomenal.
Like I said, Elisaier did a phenomenal job punting the
football out of trouble. You know, we got backed up
because of some you know, red zone stops and then
some penalty he's and like I said, I was just
really I was really proud of our team for you know,
(42:05):
like I said, offensively, not great execution in the third quarter,
but I thought we voted are back and did a
really really good job. But I couldn't be happier with
the first half. I said. The start was the fast
start was phenomenal.
Speaker 1 (42:16):
Jordan Palmer has been a pretty much the big the
main main source of offense for your team this season,
averaging over one hundred and twenty yards a game. What
have you liked from the senior this year and how
he perform tonight?
Speaker 4 (42:29):
Well, you know, this is his fourth year as a
starter for US. You know, he started at Mike liinbacker
on our state state runner up team in twenty two
and you know, he's been really good. He's been really
effective on defense. He you know, he played well tonight.
He played early in the game, didn't play late, but
played early, had a big run for us, you know,
to get kind of get us on the board to
(42:49):
start with. And you know, he's he's he's a model
of consistency. That's what you can say about Jordan. He
really he practices hardy, lifts already, studies hard, great student,
he's a great young man. But he's but as a
football player, they don't get much tougher than Jordan Palmer.
He's just he's kind of the complete package. He loves football.
And you know, there's people that like it, there's people
(43:10):
that love it. He loves it.
Speaker 1 (43:11):
Coach, how are things looking right now in the Mid
State Conference? I know you lost earlier in the season
to Decatur, but since then you've won four consecutive games.
Speaker 4 (43:19):
Yeah, you know we're four and one in the league.
You know, Decatur won tonight. You know, somebody's got to
get him at this point. I know we've got Plainstie.
We've got a big matchup with Plainfield next Friday, and
and you know we've we've talked about this path that
you know, we've got to play great October football. You know,
we've always done that here. I think we're fifty eight
and sixteen in the month of October in the twenty
(43:39):
one years i've been here now, you know, and we've
always we're always get stronger down the stretch and and
there's there's a plan for that, and you know next
Friday is going to be an awfully big one for US.
Plainfield's a really good football
