Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good evening, everybody, and welcome to Network Indiana's Indiana Sports
Talking Bob Lovell. It's brought to you by Indiana Donor Network.
Coming up high school football semi state Friday night, and
they have a game tomorrow too, But right now we're
talking about high school football, some college basketball, college football.

(00:21):
It's turning over though, to the star of our show
to catch you up on that busy and important night
in high school football. There's Network Indiana's Brendan King.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
All right, coach happy semi state weekend. Let's get right
to it, because we have shutouts, we have surprises, we
have drama through the scores that are entering the studio tonight,
and already we do know our matchup for the six
A state championship taking place next weekend. After Brownsburg, the
defending six eight champs, shutout Warren Central tonight, they were

(00:52):
scoreboard watching and they saw Westfield outlast Carol fort WAYME
thirty five fourteen, the Rocks and the Dogs for a
state title one weekend from toennight for Class five A
New Palestine, another shutout, they blank Bloomington South forty to nothing.

(01:14):
Newpal the Dragons back to the state title game, they
await the winner of Concord and Merriville, which is still
to be determined. Class four A just going final one
of two Fort Wayne representatives punching their ticket to downtown Indianapolis.
Fort Wayne Dwanger, with a twenty eight to seven win

(01:35):
over South Bend Saint Joe Dwanger will meet the winner
of Ron Collie and Heritage Hills, which has yet to
go final. In Class three A, we mentioned the surprises.
This is the surprise. It shouldn't surprise anybody based on
their history, but in terms of record, Fort Wayne Bishop
Lures takes down Knocks thirty five nothing knock held off

(02:00):
of the scoreboard, and all time leading rusher Miles McLaughlin
in his final game of his career, will not match
Derrick Henry's national record as he comes up just short.
In Class two way Brownstown Central, the battle of the Unbeatens,
holds on to defeat Lapel thirty one to twenty one.

(02:24):
Brownstown Central awaits the winner of Andrean and Adams Central.
Right now in the fourth quarter Andrean is leading, but
again we will wait the final of that one. Lastly,
in Class A, Cinderello run for Mylon where have you
heard that sentence before, but Mylon comes up just short
as South Putnam. They remain undefeated. South Putnam goes to

(02:46):
the state championship game forty to seven winners over Mylond.
It'll be South Putnam against either Pioneer or South Adams.
As coach referenced at the start of this update, that
three A state title game where Fort Wayne Bishop Bluers
is going back to Lucas Oil Stadium. They're gonna have
to wait twenty four hours to find out their opponent
because tomorrow night at seven o'clock it'll be Cascade hosting

(03:10):
Gibson Southern in the other half of the three A
semi state. Wow, some great games tonight across the semi
state realm ading, and we'll fill in the rest of
those puzzle pieces as the rest of the games are
about to go final. Until then, let's talk some college basketball,
starting with Perdue, who right now in the Baja mar

(03:32):
Championship leading in the feast week number one Perdue going
against number fifteen Texas Tech. The number one Boilers out
to a ten to eight lead in the first half
of that ball game. Early on, CJ. Cox says four
points to each for Trey Kaufman, Ran Brayden Smith and
Fletcher Lawyer howmout the Butler Bulldogs down at the Greenbrier

(03:53):
able to beat South Carolina, handing the game Cox their
first lost Dogs win at seventy nine to seventy two,
eighteen points from Finley Busy Jack Michael Jaii the transfer
from Gonzaga with a double double fifteen points, fourteen boards.
The Dogs will stay down at the Greenbrier and take
on Virginia on Sunday. Virginia beat Northwestern earlier today. I you,

(04:14):
Indy fell to Alabama State. That was a final of
one hundred and one to eighty. The Jags are two
and five on the campaign. For the Pacers, as you
heard from Pat Boiling, Cleveland defeats Indiana tonight one hundred
and twenty to one hundred and nine. Career high point
scoring for Andrew Nemhard he had thirty two. Pascal si
Yakam chipped in with twenty six. Ben Matherin in his

(04:35):
return at twenty one. I'm Brendan King.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
Welcome back everybody. Brendan King. You and I were talking
before mister Rakestrow called us notre dame. Taking on Syracuse
this is eerily like last year. It's like a carbon
copy of a year ago when don't we have talked

(05:00):
about it that much but lose early, run the table
and find themselves in a national championship game. There's a
whole lot going on with this group. That's that as
if we've seen this movie before.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Well, it's funny, Coach, I was thinking about that when
you were discussing it. As you said before, Greg called
and I remember talking eight weeks ago on this program,
you and I I remember mentioning, Coach, it was going
to take a carbon copy of last year to get
into the college football playoff. Now still work to go.
Obviously Notre Dame has got to play Syracuse and they

(05:34):
got to go to Stanford in the year, and of
course Stanford is coached by our old buddy Frank Reich
out of Indianapolis, So not going to be easy by
any means. So no, you know, it's funny to think
about it. And being up in South Bend, obviously you
talked about it. I'm up in South Bend during the
summers and listen, I'm exposed to the Notre Dame football
fanom every single day. And that's not just because I

(05:55):
live up there, but I grew up an under Dame.
My dad's in Alum But again it's it's you know,
it's something they're going to have to figure out for
twenty twenty seven. You can will afford to go oh
and two for a third consecutive year. However, Marcus Freeman,
whatever is in the juice up in South Bend of
what he has given to the guys after an zero
and two start this year and then you know the

(06:15):
horrible loss last year in northern Illinois. That guy knows
how to push buttons and it has clearly worked. But
I'll tell you again these last two weeks, even though
Syracuse is unranked, even though Stanford has struggled historically, those
are two games that Notre Dame has struggled with at times, right, So,
I mean the Notre Dame Stanford rivalry has gone to
years and years and years and years. So again, no

(06:36):
shoe ins just yet, but looking pretty good right now,
especially what else has happened there in the top twelve
with a lot of movement in recent weeks.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Well, I think you know they're clearly in playoff mode
now as if we tell you right, yeah, knowing that
if you lose, you're out and so but that's not
really a stretch for them anyway, because in seut being
and if you're a Notre Dame fan, and you know
this is probably better than most people.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
If you lose a game.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
Anyway, you know, the whole world's crashing down around you,
according to the fans, and so there's always that pressure.
The pressure is on you at Notre Dame. You're not
actually allowed to lose a game. In the minds of
your fans. You're not supposed to lose a game. So
you you've dealt with that pressure from the time you
hit campus.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
I think that's always been true, and I think even
more so now where it has been heightened in this
playoff era. Yes, you know, back in the BCS days,
there was no playoff. It was the two best teams
that were going to play in the BCS National Championship.
And if you got to the Fiesta Bowl or you
got to the Sugar Bowl, or you got to another
high profile and orange bowl, you know, I was looked
at as a success. You know, nowadays, coach, if you

(07:48):
don't get into the college football playoffs, it's a lost season.
Who cares the bowl game? And this is no disrespect
to other bulls. I'm not trying to disrespect the tax
Slayer Bowl or any other bull but it is truly
looked at as a failure of a season if you
play any other bowl game other than getting into the CFP.
It's just kind of signs of the times.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
Brendan King with me to be with us every fifteen minutes.
So ball State at Indiana State basketball tomorrow?

Speaker 2 (08:17):
Yees doing that game? No, So I've got the football
game against Murray.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
You've got the football game.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
You've got the Murray State at Indiana State.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
I do.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
And then our friend Greg Reigstraw will take you home
with in Indiana State and I got I gotta drive
back to the studio to hang out with you tomorrow night.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
Yeah, you have to. So Murray ISSU game should be
a good game.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
Murray annually one of the better teams in the Missouri
Valley Conference, as Indiana State, you know, trying to win
in the most difficult conference at their level in college football.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
Well, both of those teams have experienced a coach. Because
Murray State is winless on the year, I know that's
hard to believe. They are zero and eleven Indiana State
is three and eight, and their schedules have been carving
copies of each other. This is the first game in
six weeks on both sides where neither Murray State or
Indiana State will face a ranked team. First time in

(09:12):
six straight weeks, that neither of them will face a
ranked team. That's insane, He's Brendan King.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
Let's turn to our good friend Brian Sullivan from wnas
the Floyd Sports Network. Girls basketball tonight Eastern Peakin fifty
nine to forty one over Salem. Mister mister Sullivan, thank
you so much for the call. We got about a
minute here, so let's get started. Big win for Eastern

(09:41):
Peaking tonight.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
Yeah, kind of an emotional night. Sidney Burton, who is
one of the top players at Eastern. She had been
Salem's leading scorer as a sophomore two years ago and
her dad got an administration position down with Eastern and
so she had moved and this was her return home
playing at Salem, so there was a little bit extra

(10:04):
juice in there. I know she was a little bit
nervous going back in and the student section was waiting
for so that was kind of entertaining, all.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
Right, hang on here through the scoreboard update. I apologize
for the long wait, but I really want to hear this.
This is great.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
It's great drama, great story, talking some girls basketball. This
is Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
I'm Brendan Kang with this Network Indiana scoreboard update. Here
on Indiana's Sports Talk. We have a couple state championship
games set where we know both squads that'll be down
in downtown Indianapolis next weekend. Six A is one of them.
It'll be a battle between the Rocks and the Dogs.
Westfield beats Carol Fort Wayne thirty five to fourteen. I'll

(10:47):
tell you though, if Carol won that game, they would
have been the third representative from the two six to
zero to play at a state championship because Fort Wayne
Dwanger has already won tonight and so is Fort Wayne
Bishop Bluers. But Westfield did take down Carol, and then
Brownsburg shutout Warren Central thirty one nothing. We also know
the Class A state title. Undefeated South Putnam after a

(11:10):
forty to seven win over Mylin will meet Pioneer thirty
one fourteen. Pioneer takes down South Adams. Pioneer heading back
to the state title for the first time since twenty eighteen,
when a guy named Jack Kaiser helped them to a
sixty to nothing shutout over South Vermillion. Jack Kaiser played

(11:30):
on both sides of the football. He then set the
all time Notre Dame record for games played with seventy
and now he's a fourth round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars,
playing with the Jags as a linebacker. So Pioneer heading
back to the state championship. Pacers fell tonight to the Cavaliers,
one hundred and twenty to one hundred and nine. Career

(11:51):
high thirty two points for Andrew Nemhard. Pacers, still riddled
with injuries, past Hal Siakam with twenty six. Ben Mathern
had twenty one quick check in on Purdue Baja March
Championship game number one Perdue twenty two, number fifteen Texas
Tech twenty that's with nine and chains to play in
the first half. I'm Brendan King.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
Welcome back everyone on Bob Lovel.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
This is Network Indiana's Indiana Sports taw Brian Sullivan from
WNAS joining us before the break. Girls basketball Eastern Peak
can be Salem fifty nine to forty one the homecoming
is this story, Brian, I'll let you pick that back up.

Speaker 4 (12:28):
Yeah, and and coach, this was kind of a neat
night for me. Three of the starters at Eastern had
played AAU basketball with my oldest for several years and
they were growing up. And when I got coaching AAU,
I had three kids from Salem that are now in
the starting line up as freshman. They're actually starting four
freshmen this year at SALET, so it was one of
those they have talents, but it's freshman going against seniors.

(12:51):
It's going to be a great learning experience. Salem went
to the state finals in twenty twenty, and you look
back when those kids were freshmen. They took their lumps,
but it was an opportunity for them to grow and
paid off on the back end. So I think you'll
see the same thing they Salem stayed with them for
about a quarter and a half. We're up by two
midway through the second quarter, but eventually the pressure defense

(13:13):
and you can see some of the experience kind of
kick in at that point for Eastern. So a good
win for them to go on the road at an
opportunity to see Providence against Jeffersonville earlier this week, and
I think it's shaping up to be Eastern and Providence
probably the two best teams in that sectional coming up
into a sectional tournament.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
All Right, brother, thanks so much to the call again
girls basketball. Eastern Peak can be Salem fifty one. Brian
Sullivan from the network the what do we call the
Clark Floyd Sports Network like network that love the sound
of it. I appreciate you taking time. Have a great weekend,

(13:57):
all right, doculaire coach, Thank you. The palaesteam will be
playing for a championship next week. They'd be Bloomington South
to nine forty two nothing with me from the newpal
Radio dot Com Andrew Smith Andrew, very impressive, obviously an
impressive win for the Dragons tonight.

Speaker 5 (14:16):
Yeah, and I think fitting that New Palace seniors play
their last game at Kelso Stadium, where they never lost
in four years, and they finish it with a shutout.
And we talk a lot about New Pal's offense. They're
one of the top scoring teams in the state in
any class, but their defense has been the top scoring
defense in the state all season. Pitched their fifth shutout

(14:38):
of the season tonight and held down a really really,
really talented Bloomington South offense led by the quarterback Dustin Combs,
and just couldn't really get untracked. The Panthers drove into
Dragon territory a couple of times, had a field goal
attempt that was missed, but newpal really again like they
have all season, took command from the opening kickoff. They

(15:00):
have scored on the first drive of every game, but
won this year. This time it was Landed Maddocks catching
a pass in the corner of the end zone for
a touchdown, and then the Dragons get the ball back
go on a short touchdown drive after a turnover, Jacob
Davis ran it in and then on the next possession
Flommington South pins them deep that Mason Oglesby catches a

(15:22):
ninety two yard touchdown pass, the third longest touchdown pass
in School of history, and Jacob Davis has been on
the throwing end of two of them in the last
two years, so that made it twenty one to nothing,
and then Kat and Jacobi had a couple of touchdowns,
the last one coming after a Cameron Rollinson interception twenty
seven to nothing at the half. His second touchdown made
it thirty five to nothing triggered the running clock and

(15:45):
so newpal five Ay South was loaded this year and
you knew whoever was going to get out of it
was going to survive. And New Pala has defeated number
ten playing Field, an underrated number seven East Central team
last week, number two Cathedral On now number three blooming
them south to get to Lucas Oil and now it
looks like they're gonna face number five Meryllville. There so

(16:08):
no team in the all In era going back to
nineteen eighty five, no state champion has ever beaten a
ranked team in every single round of the tournament, and
the Dragons have an opportunity to do that at Lucas
Oil Stadium next week.

Speaker 3 (16:24):
It's just been an impressive run.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
I mean, obviously, you're there every day, you've done this
for a while, you're you know, you know on the faculty,
you're a part of this whole community. But it just
seems to me to be like a juggernaut. You know,
they just keep you know what you're going to get.
You know, they're they're gonna line up and come right
at you on both sides of the ball. Defensively, they've

(16:48):
just been superb which is one of the cornerstones of
what the program's about.

Speaker 3 (16:52):
It's just that they've done this and done this to
a good team.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Bloomington southeam is a good team, and they steamrolled this
team and they've done that more that they've done that
to a lot of teams this year.

Speaker 5 (17:03):
Yeah, and this is just an impressive football team. And
again it starts with their defense, and it really starts
in the weight room. And Kyle Ralph from the moment
he showed up in twenty thirteen, emphasized the weight room
culture right and the kids bought in. And I think
my favorite story about the Kyle ralphira was they won
the state championship in twenty fourteen on a Friday, and

(17:26):
on Saturday morning, the guys were outside the door lined
up at the weight room. Then coach, we lift on Saturdays,
and uh so, and Coach like, guys, you just won
a state championship. But they opened up the doors and
they got their Saturday lift in. That's just the culture
that they've built. And now you add in a lot
of talent. They got two Division one linemen. Frock Brownfield's

(17:49):
going to Purdue A, Walling's going to West Point. They've
got another guy, Sam Hershey, who's a sophomore who he's
pretty much gonna go where anywhere he wants. He's a
trumpendous defensive lineman and repla graduate of Michael Thacker. And
really they haven't missed a beat. The three linebackers, Garrett
and Josh Rains and Mason Oglesby are all outstanding football

(18:09):
players that have played a lot of football.

Speaker 4 (18:10):
And I think that's the thing.

Speaker 5 (18:12):
A lot of these guys playing tonight were starters two
years ago on a semi state team that lost to
that loaded East Central team, and since then they learned
some lessons from that game, and since then they have
just been a juggernaut. And then Jacob Davis coming in
last year, You've got a quarterback at the Division one
quarterback that can make every throw ru and a couple

(18:33):
of good running backs running behind that big, talented offensive line.
They control things in the trenches, and they've got skilled
players who can make plays and a defense that's just nafty.
And even when they're backed up against the wall, Bloomington
South had a first down of the two yard line
and it ended the drive into missfield goal. Even when

(18:56):
they're backed up against the wall, they don't flinch. In
two weeks to go, in theteral, same thing, the Irish
had a first down of the two yard line and
ended up with nothing because Andrew Davis.

Speaker 4 (19:06):
Picked off a path in the end zone. And so.

Speaker 5 (19:10):
Even it's first and goal, they're not done out. The
varsity defense has a lot four touchdowns all season this year,
which is just incredible given the caliber of teams they faced,
especially here in the state tournament.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
Well, it'll be interesting to say the least the communities
used to win championships.

Speaker 3 (19:31):
This is an impressive, impressive year.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
I think the other part of it too, that's difficult
for all of us to understand is the expectation there
is to win championships, and that's a whole lot of
pressure on a whole lot of people. But they managed
to do it and do it in impressive fashion. And
I think it's a tribute to all the hard work
the coaches and staff and administrators and the entire communities

(19:57):
put in. This is a community effort and one in
which I know everyone ought to share and deserves to share.

Speaker 5 (20:06):
Yeah, it starts with the youth league, which is one
of the best in the state, and They've got a
couple hundred kids out playing football every Saturday morning, and
that's where it begins.

Speaker 3 (20:16):
And you know, these.

Speaker 5 (20:17):
Kids playing the night were in the stands watching Alex
Neely and Duke Blackwell win a state championship eleven years
ago they were first graders. And yeah, it just continues
to build. But the one thing I think, one reason
why they've been successful and dealt with that pressure is
they treat every week the same. Whether you're playing an

(20:38):
en to seventeen in a week eight, or whether you're
playing a ranked team for a sectional championship like Cathedral
a couple of weeks ago, you're playing for a semi state.
They prepare the same way every week. They never overlook
an opponent and they prepare and they treat every game
the same. So it's very much a workmanlike, businesslike effort.

Speaker 4 (20:58):
And one thing Kyle Ralph always says.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
When we have our pregame interview on Thursdays is we
need to be the most excited team to.

Speaker 4 (21:05):
Play on Friday night.

Speaker 5 (21:06):
And it's energy, but it's also workman like. And they're
so sound and well coached. They trust what their coach
to do, and they trust themselves and they go out
and they make plays and it really feeds on itself,
and that's how you end up being a four A
school that this is their six state finals appearance in

(21:29):
twelve years. This is their their fourth in five A
where they're essentially playing a class above their enrollment level,
and an opportunity to win a third state championship in
five A and a fifth overall in that time frame.

Speaker 1 (21:45):
Andrew Smith from the Newpal Radio network. Newpal moves on
to the championship. They beat Bloomington South forty two nothing tonight. Andrew,
thank you for the call. Have a fantastic weekend.

Speaker 5 (21:57):
Thank you you two.

Speaker 3 (21:59):
Coming up.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
More scoreboard updates from Brendan King.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
Hey, what's going on. I'm Brendan King with this network
Indiana scoreboard update here on Indiana Sports Talk and as
of ten to thirty PM right now, five of six
state championship games next weekend are set. Let's start with
Class A because they'll lead us off this coming Friday.
It's Pioneer for the first time in a state title

(22:26):
since twenty eighteen when Jack Kaiser was their quarterback. Thirty
one to fourteen. Pioneer handles South Adams on the flip
side South Putnam over Miland forty to seven. South Putnam
ended that magical run for Mylin as they knocked out
the defending champ Providence, but the road comes to an
end for Mylin and South Putnam will match up with
Pioneer next Friday. Two Way is also set. They'll be

(22:50):
the first game on Saturday, and Drean defeats Adams Central
twenty four to nineteen. And Rayan went back to back
state title games in twenty twenty one in twenty twenty two.
They won in twenty twenty one, which Drake Bowen is
their running back and their linebacker and Drean's gonna match
up though with undefeated Brownstown Central in the Battle of

(23:11):
unbeaten Tonight, Brownstown takes care of Lapel thirty one to
twenty one and by the way and dre And they
did a hand Adam Central their first loss because three
of the final four teams in two AA were undefeated.
Pretty unbelievable stuff. Three A is the game that is
not set. Thirty five nothing Fort Wayne Bishop Leures over

(23:32):
Knox Gibson Southern will take on Cascade tomorrow at seven pm.
Class four eight Dwanger over South Bend Saint Joe twenty
eight to seven. Dwanger will meet Ron Colley who beat
Heritage Hills forty two fourteen. We'll talk about five A
and six A at ten forty five.

Speaker 1 (23:50):
Welcome back, Brendan King, rejoins me. You've been busy. Those
are some matchups. Now you're doing what.

Speaker 3 (23:58):
Gay are are you doing? Achampionship game coach?

Speaker 2 (24:01):
That's right, Jim Leisure and I will have two A radio,
so i'll have Andrean and Brownstown Central and actually, funny enough,
this kind of brings the full circle. And Drean was
my first ever state championship callback in twenty twenty one
when Drake Bowen won that title against Evansville modern day,
I think it was. So that's gonna be a heck
of a ball again.

Speaker 1 (24:23):
So yeah, that will be a heck of a game.
I think they're all once we once, we're determined. So
we're still waiting on what are we waiting on? The
five A Merrillville Concord matchup?

Speaker 3 (24:38):
Is that what we're waiting on?

Speaker 2 (24:39):
That went final? Maryville defeated Concord forty one to fourteen.
That was what I was going to touch on at
ten forty five. But the only start Hill It's okay.
The only thing we're waiting on now coach has mentioned
is that three a game tomorrow Cascade hosting Gibson Southern
not to be a seven o'clock kickoff and the winner
gets fort Wayne Bishop Lewers.

Speaker 3 (24:59):
Yeah. Thanks, that's your That's that's quite a prize.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
That's your prize.

Speaker 3 (25:06):
Yeah, congratulations.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
Now you get a chance to be one of the
most storied programs in the entire states.

Speaker 3 (25:11):
Not just that, Adam.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
Your prize is getting a team that just shut out
Miles McLaughlin tonight, which talk about it has been able
to stop Miles McLaughlin, let alone shut.

Speaker 3 (25:20):
Him out tonight.

Speaker 2 (25:21):
Magical career comes to an end there. What can you say?

Speaker 1 (25:25):
Uh, congratulations is about all you can say. And congratulations
to coach Radkey and his guys, that offensive line that
has been instrumental in Miles's success. It's a it's been
a fun story to follow and be a part of.
And here from Coach Radkey on Friday nights and hear
the exploits of one of the all time great athletes

(25:46):
in our state. What's not the like about that? So
the field is pretty much set. I I always believe
that that might be one of the best weekends of
the entire year, is to go town in town, you
watch high school football, catch the lighting of the tree
so to speak, you know, the lights on Monument Circle,

(26:10):
kind of kicking off the holiday season. And I'll never
forget the first time I was down doing the doing
the finals indoors and they I didn't realize that fireworks
were part of this whole thing. And these things are
just like bombs, I mean like rockets going off and
I'm inside, You're wondering what on God's Earth is going on?

Speaker 3 (26:32):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (26:32):
And then someone explains to me, Hey, you first time
out of Johnson County.

Speaker 3 (26:37):
Uh, you know, so it was it was fun.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
I think again, I think it's a fantastic weekend for
families and fans and everybody get involved and get down there.
And first of all, you know, being a state championships
once in a lifetime thrilled for lots of people and
for communities.

Speaker 3 (26:56):
And secondly, who else gets.

Speaker 1 (26:59):
To play in an NFL stadium. I mean, think about
the commitment from the IHSA to student athletes in our state.
If you play, if you play for a football championship,
you're playing with the Colts play, you're playing for a
basketball championship. You're playing with the Pacers. Play now, I
dare say no, whether state Association can say that.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
No, coach, I listen, I could speak for it. I
mean growing up in Illinois and my high school at
Lincoln Way East, which is one of the bigger South
Side high schools. We went to the state championship my
senior year and we played down at the University of Illinois,
which was an awesome experience, big ten stadium, right, and yeah,
you're getting a great You're great into getting an awesome experience,
but then moving here and coming to college here and

(27:43):
then as mentioned, I think when it really first clicked
for me broadcasting that twenty twenty one state championship, it
was andrean and modern day, and I think the most
significant thing that I took away was not only is
a guy like Drake Bowen who now starts a Notre
Dame playing his final high school game there, but also
what really made a click was later that weekend, the

(28:06):
Colts were going to be playing at home against the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers and a guy by the name of
Tom Brady was playing quarterback on that same turf that
same weekend. That's really when a click for me.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
Yeah, and also what clicked for you is you were
indoors the Illinois Stadium's outdoors.

Speaker 3 (28:24):
Oh we indoors.

Speaker 2 (28:25):
We froze our tails off that that night. Yeah, I'll
tell you what we have, the all he combined energy
of the Lincolnay East student section that kept everybody warm.
But uh no, I'll never forget how cold that night was.
But those are memories you'll never forget.

Speaker 1 (28:39):
All right, let's review what's going on tomorrow in college football, bo,
The Bucket game is next week, that's right.

Speaker 3 (28:46):
Why did I think it was this week?

Speaker 2 (28:48):
Because you want to watch it so bad? Obviously I
want to watch it right now.

Speaker 1 (28:52):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely do. But that's that's for another day.
So we do have football coming up tomorrow. Your Notre
Dame Irish are playing Murray States in Indiana State. You're
going to have that call on that game, DePaul. After
winning their conference beating Walbash last week. They'll be playing

(29:14):
University Wisconsin Whitewater on the twenty ninth. Again, the committee
does them no favors by making them play Whitewater.

Speaker 3 (29:25):
That game I'm sure will be at Whitewater.

Speaker 1 (29:28):
And so that that's how that goes. Wabash by virtue
of a contract the NCAC has Walbash will be playing
Ohio Northern for the Forever Lawn Bowl.

Speaker 3 (29:43):
That's coming up.

Speaker 1 (29:45):
And then Indiana Westman in the NAI is hosting Southern
Southwestern College on November the thirtieth. So we have some
good news to talk about in postseason. Four schools not
in the Division one ranks.

Speaker 2 (30:00):
Yeah, and then I'm gonna throw in ball State tomorrow
as well, coach at two o'clock at Toledo. And this
is a ball State team that's four and six. Missed
out on a big opportunity last week against Eastern Michigan. Yeah,
and get yourself for a guaranteed bull spot. But now
you've got to play on the road back to back
weeks to close the year just to get to six wins.
You got Toledo tomorrow and then Thanksgiving weekend you're at Miami, Ohio.

(30:24):
So going through Toledo in Miami, just trying to get
to six wins to sniff a chance at a ball again.
That was the brightest opportunity a BYuT the cards last
weekend against Eastern Michigan.

Speaker 1 (30:35):
Kevin though Kevin Lynch has done a fantastic job and
the guys have done well.

Speaker 3 (30:39):
I'm happy for them. They'll do nothing but get.

Speaker 1 (30:42):
Better, and that's kind of what's that's all about. And
so we have that. I know we have college basketball tomorrow.
We had it tonight, but we have college basketball coming
up tomorrow. You're involved, are you? You're doing Ball State
Indiana State football?

Speaker 3 (31:02):
Right?

Speaker 2 (31:02):
I got Murray.

Speaker 1 (31:03):
You're doing Murray State in Indiana City and rates at
the Ball State game ball.

Speaker 3 (31:07):
Yeah, Ball State, Indiana State. I love the fact that
they play. I think it's fantastic that they play one another.

Speaker 1 (31:13):
Yeah, I just you know, wish more schools in the
state would would play your guys at Butler, your dogs.
How about to win today for really good.

Speaker 2 (31:24):
I had a chance to watch that against South Carolina
and yeah, game really coach, That doesn't make a whole
lot of sense. At the end of the day, Butler
shoots fifty nine percent from the free throw line, but
forty two percent for three to beat South Carolina today.
Seventy died seventy two, So some things you got to
clean up there at the stripe. But Michael Ojai as
good as advertise coming from Gonzaga fifteen points, fourteen boards,

(31:46):
and then the Dogs really rebound from that SMU loss
on the road well, taking care of South Carolina. And
then big one comes up Sunday coach against Virginia after
the Calves beat Northwestern today, so knew they were going
to be battle tested in these this three game window
against SMU, South Carolina and then Virginia coming up. So

(32:07):
I feel like you take two of those three, you're
sitting pretty if you're thad MANA yeah.

Speaker 1 (32:12):
And I think it's great that they scheduled them. It's
great that they schedule themselves into an event like this where.

Speaker 3 (32:19):
You're going to be challenged on both nights without question.

Speaker 2 (32:24):
And historically Butler has played in those types of setups, coach.
They've played in Maui, They've played in Atlantis. I remember
when I was in school, my sophomore year, Chris Holtman
took the Dogs down to Atlantis and they upset North
Carolina and that was really the coming out party for
Chris Holtman and Keeland Martin and guys like that. So
a lot of times, coach, in these November games, you

(32:44):
can't punch a ticket to the NC Double A Tournament.
But you can lose a ticket to the NC Double
A Tournament if you don't take care of some of
these non conference matchup.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
Absolutely, he's Brenda King. He's coming up with a school
board update in just a few minutes. Again, make sure
you join us tomorrow night for our Saturday night version
of Indiana Sports Talk as we talk college football and
the Colts are back in action. Seems you know, this

(33:12):
bye week seems like two weeks or three weeks, for
heaven sake, but they're back in action. Coming up again,
Brendan King, another school board update. This is Network Indiana's
Indiana Sports Talk.

Speaker 2 (33:24):
I'm Brendan King with this Network Indiana scoreboard update here
on Indiana Sports Talk. As mentioned five of the six
state championship games for next weekend at Lucas Oil Stadium
ore set. We went over one A through four A
in the last update, and again three A is not
official yet because Gibson Southern will play Cascade tomorrow at
seven pm. In the winner of that game, we'll have

(33:46):
the honor of playing Fort Wayne Bishop Lures next weekend.
Lures over Knox earlier tonight. Thirty five nothing in five
A it was Meroville taking care of Concord forty one
to fourteen, and on the flip side, Palestine with the
forty two nothing shutout of Bloomington South newpal Merrillville next weekend.

(34:07):
In six A two teams that know each other well.
Westfield took care of Carol Fort Wayne thirty five fourteen,
Brownsburg whitewashing Warren Central thirty one nothing. It's the Bulldogs
and the Rocks Westfield Brownsburg next weekend for the six
A state title. Again a reminder. In four A, fort
Wayne Dwanger will play Ron Colly, Ron Colly beating Heritage

(34:29):
Hills forty two to fourteen, danger over South Bend Saint
Joe twenty eight to seven. Two a's matchup will be
Andrayan versus Brownstown Central and Drayan got the job done
against Adams Central twenty four nineteen. It was Brownstown beating
Lapel thirty one twenty one. And in Class A, Pioneer
will play South Putnam. South Putnam crushed Mylin forty to seven.

(34:50):
It was Pioneer thirty one South Adams fourteen. How about
Purdue it halftime against Texas Tech leading Tech forty nine.
Purdue closes the first half on a twenty three to
three run to be up double digits twenty plus. I'm
Brennan King.

Speaker 1 (35:09):
Welcome back everyone on Bob Lovell. This is Network Indiana's
Indiana Sports Talk. Meryllville moves in to the championship game
next weekend by virtue of their forty one to fourteen
win over Concord.

Speaker 3 (35:22):
We're thrilled to be.

Speaker 1 (35:23):
Joined by Brad Ceise, the head coach at Meryllville. Coach,
thank you so much for the call and congratulations on
a tremendous win for you and your kids.

Speaker 4 (35:33):
Appreciate it. It's been a long time coming, you know,
the the our coaching staff, the kids did a great job.
It was a great environment up here at Merville.

Speaker 1 (35:43):
It's always a good environment at Meryllville. But this is
a it's a Concord team riding high and then both
of you the opportunity to play for a championship.

Speaker 3 (35:54):
But they post some unique challenges to you.

Speaker 1 (35:57):
I mean, a dramatic win a couple of weeks ago,
or we could go to get where they are there.
They've got momentum, as do you how are you able
to win this game?

Speaker 3 (36:06):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (36:07):
We got off to a slow start. They were up
seven to nothing and they were their quarterback was running
in for what looked to be a touchdown and we
had a free safety. Warren Brown came in and punched
the ball out on like the two yard line, and
Mike Hughes recovered the ball on in the end zone.
We marched it right down, scored a big, uh a

(36:29):
long touchdown run with Cameron Jordan to tie up at seven,
took the lead twenty to seven, and a half kind
of rode that momentum and continued in the second half.

Speaker 1 (36:40):
Yeah, that clock wouldn't move fast enough for you when
you're on the sideline with that lead, could it.

Speaker 4 (36:46):
No, No, not at all. I mean we've we've been
in this game six in the last seven years, and
h it's kind of kind of been the the monkey
that we needed to get off our back and the
kids did a great job, and uh, you know, we
finished the game in the second half, and uh, it's
just awesome to be a part of it.

Speaker 1 (37:05):
So having been in this situation, like you said, six
of the last seven years, I'm sure a big thing
had to be that you had to make sure make
sure the kids understood they deserve to win.

Speaker 4 (37:17):
Yeah, one hundred percent. And and you know, I think, uh,
when you look at this game, you know there's a
lot of pressure. Uh it's a game of emotion and
uh years past, we didn't handle that real well. And
and even though we got down early, we uh, like
I said, we forced the big turnover. The defense forced
four turnovers tonight against a really good offense. But uh, yeah,

(37:37):
I mean we we've been uh you know, certain in
this game for for you know, pretty much since November
last year. And uh yeah, I'm really happy for our
kids to get the job done and represent our school
down to the state championship.

Speaker 3 (37:49):
Well who plays well for you tonight, coach? In the win.

Speaker 4 (37:53):
Uh we had a two headed monster and uh Cameron
Jordan and j Q Johnson at running back. Uh. I
don't know the official stats, but uh they had all
our touchdowns. I would guess we were four hundred plus
yards on the ground, did a really good job of
uh you know, creating some uh some some some weak

(38:13):
points in their defense with some formations and things like that.
And uh, you know, they they ran well. The offensive
line paid the path for him, and uh, you know,
it's just a great night for us.

Speaker 1 (38:23):
Yeah, absolutely great ninth the matchup next week. I know
you just won, but you've got to be excited. It's
gonna be a whirlwind for you and your guys this
upcoming week.

Speaker 4 (38:35):
Yeah. Yeah, I gotta figure what the heck goes on
for the schedule for this. I'm a newbie to this
and obviously coach Ralph kind of figured things out right.
But but you know, we we we know New Pal
is a really good team. I mean you've kind of
scoreboard watched all year and seen who they played. I mean,
we know we're gonna have our work cut out for us,
but uh, excited the opportunity to go play them.

Speaker 1 (38:57):
I'm curious, coach, we got a bet?

Speaker 3 (39:02):
Do I tell you what? Can you? Can you wait?

Speaker 1 (39:03):
Can you hang on for like three minutes, so take
a break and come back and talk a little bit more.

Speaker 3 (39:07):
Can you do that? Yep? Perfect? All right.

Speaker 1 (39:11):
We'll come back and talk more with Brad Seas, the
head coach at Merylville. They are playing Newpal for the
five A championship next week. Big win this evening to
put him in that situation forty one to fourteen over Concord,
and we'll come back and talk more football on Network
Indiana's Indiana Sports Stuff.

Speaker 3 (39:33):
Welcome back, everybody.

Speaker 1 (39:35):
Brad Ceas rejoins us the football coach at Meryllville. Meryllville
beating Concord tonight to advance to the championship game next
weekend they'll play New Palestine.

Speaker 3 (39:48):
They beating the Concord to night forty one to fourteen.

Speaker 1 (39:50):
All right, coach, tell me who stepped up for you
and made big plays and made it possible to go
play for a championship tonight.

Speaker 4 (39:58):
And really started with our d fence. Uh, Warren Brown
forced a big fumble, Uh as conqueror was getting ready
to score, Uh to go up seeing nothing where uh
where We're able to get the ball and and we
Cam Cam Jordan then hit a home run on an
eighty eighty yard touchdown literally the next play. And and

(40:20):
from that point on, you know, it was kind of
a Marrable track meet for a while.

Speaker 3 (40:24):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (40:24):
You know, we were really really rolling on the running
the football.

Speaker 3 (40:29):
You can run the football.

Speaker 1 (40:30):
Yeah, it sounds to me like you're a well balanced
football team. You wouldn't be where you are without having
that balance.

Speaker 4 (40:37):
Yeah, uh yeah, definitely. You know we came into the season, uh,
Cameron and JQ. Both were twelve hundred plus yard rushers
last year and uh to start the year. You know,
Michael Hill, our quarterback played has played really really well.
He's over three thousand yards on the year. Uh, another
seven hundred rushing yards. So uh, you know, we we've

(40:58):
been really dynamic offense. I believe here in the playoffs
he's kind of leaned on the ground game, you know
a lot more. But to be honest, I don't care
how we do it as long as we do it.
And you know, we got it done tonight.

Speaker 1 (41:09):
Coach, I appreciate you've had a long night, a great night.
I appreciate you taking time to join us. I wish
you nothing but the best next weekend in Indianapolis.

Speaker 4 (41:19):
I appreciate it. You know we'll look for a good
representation from the Pirates.

Speaker 3 (41:23):
Thanks for everything, sure you will.

Speaker 1 (41:25):
Thank you very much. Brad Seas, the football coach at Meryllville. Coach,
thanks so much. Congratulations Meryllville moving on with a forty
one to fourteen win over Concord.

Speaker 3 (41:37):
They'll take on New pal next week.

Speaker 1 (41:40):
Brendan King will come up soon top the hour scoreboard update.

Speaker 3 (41:44):
He'll give you the matchups. Got a game tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (41:47):
Now, don't forget, got a big three to a battle
between Gibson Southern. They're in action against Cascade, so that'll
be the final piece of the puzzle, so to speak.
We have five of those six games tonight. You have
that matchup in three eight coming up tomorrow, and so

(42:08):
it should be a whole lot of fun, a whole
lot of fun.

Speaker 3 (42:11):
Don't forget to join us tomorrow night.

Speaker 1 (42:13):
We'll talk about that game, plus a lot of other things,
some college football, college basketball, plenty of things to talk
about tomorrow, So join us for our Saturday night version
of Indiana Sports All coming up Top the hour scoreboard
update where you've got all the information you could possibly want.
That convergence of time of year where football meets basketball

(42:39):
and it's a great time. College basketball tournaments around the holidays,
which will continue for the next couple of weeks, and
then conference play begins before you know it. Girls' basketball,
boys basketball starting next weekend our next week. So it's
a fantastic if you're a sports fan. You got all that,
plus got the Colts taking on Kansas City on Sunday.

(43:04):
Right now, though, got to get ready for the Top
of the Hour with Brendan King.

Speaker 3 (43:08):
This is Indiana Sports Talk.
