Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good evening, everybody, and welcome to Network Indiana's Indiana Sports
Talk on Bob Lovell. It's brought to you by Indiana
Donor Network. We have a lot of championship football to
talk about tonight, high school state finals wrapping up at
Lucas Oil Stadium as we speak. We'll talk some Colts,
some Pacers, some college basketball. Right now though, we turn
(00:21):
it over to the star of our show. It's Network
Indiana's Brendan King Coach.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Thanks so much. Let's get right to it with some
breaking news. Since we last went to commercial, the Pacers
have beaten the Bowls one hundred and three to one
hundred and one on a game winning shot from the
right elbow by Pascal si Yakam. As he was double
team by Chicago. Siakam still got a clean look, buried
the shot, completing his twenty four point night, and the
Pacers have won back to back games for the first
(00:48):
time in twenty twenty five. Twenty six, four and sixteen
is now their record, winning yesterday over the Wizards tonight
over the Bowls, Spoils fallon nine to ten, three and
eight away from the United Center. So the Pacers and
the weekend with some positivity. Now over to the ISHSAA
football State Finals, where, still going from Lucas Oil Stadium,
(01:10):
Westfield did score a touchdown to make it a two
score ball game. Still Brownsburg leads by two touchdowns with
three minutes and eleven seconds to play in regulation. It's
thirty eight to twenty four Bulldogs as Brownsburg is in
search of the repeat, looking to win back to back
six A state championships under John Hart. The Bulldogs four
hundred and six total yards on the day to this point,
(01:33):
and again they have the football with three and change
left in regulation. Earlier this morning, as we have detailed
through the first half hour of this program, in an
instant classic, seven to nothing, yes, seven to nothing, Andreyan
shut out Brownstown Central in a game that was won
for the Ages defensively, just a brilliant game in that
(01:55):
two way final four. Three of the final four teams
were undefeated. Roundstown Central, Lapel Adams Central all undefeated heading
the semi state. It's the one team with a loss
that ends up winning the state title. As Andrean played
very well in the lone points loan touchdown of the
game from junior Brady Stovall in the fourth quarter a
(02:16):
ball game that was scoreless at halftime and scoreless after
three quarters. It was a touchdown by Stovevall on the
fourth that put it away. The four A game, fort
Wayne Dwaninger once again is a state champion, coming down
from the two six to zero thirty six to twenty nine,
outlasting Ron Colly, fort Wayne Dweger getting the job done
(02:37):
their quarterback Henry Jordan fifteen to twenty six hundred and
eighty three yards of the year plus a touchdown pass
on the ground. Wanger ran for one hundred and forty
total yards got a credit. Ron Collie tittered in fifty
one rush yards on the day, including one hundred and
ten of them from their running back Zach Doser. Mental
Attitude Award winners by the way, Micah Scheffer, who is
(02:58):
heading to Purdue to play golf next time year he
is the Brownstown Central quarterback, heck a day for him
and he was presented with the Mental Attitude Award for
Class two A. By the way, he won a state
championship for Brownstown Central and the two way basketball state
finals from twenty twenty four. So hillstyle of a ring
that he'll take with him to West Lafayette. The Mental
(03:19):
Attitude Award winner for Ron Colly in Class four A
was their quarterback Colin Ash. Congratulations to him and we
will find out a little bit later with the mental
Attitude award winner from Class six A will be mental attitudes.
Last night in the first day of state finals in
one A was Pioneers quarterback Micah Rams. Three A Brady Trembley,
(03:40):
the QB from Cascade, and then in class five A
New Palestine's Abe Walling. Congratulations to those five and ultimately
number six who will follow a little bit later. Tonight,
college football ten to three start twenty five minutes from now.
Number nine Notre Dame matches up with Stanford from Palo Alto,
of course, and Drew Luck, the general manager of the
(04:01):
Stanford football team, Frank Raich the interim head coach. Tonight
will be Frank's last game as the head coach at Stanford.
They made a coaching hire yesterday and the Irish will
try and win their tenth consecutive game as Notre Dame
looks to inch towards the college football playoff. And he
had a high school basketball Yeah, get in that type
(04:21):
of realm. As next week we'll get in the full
basketball mode. A lot of snow tonight. Forty eight total
postponements across the state of Indiana tonight, but a couple
games did require overtime since in Cincinnati sent Xavier beat
rebuff you as you went sixty four to fifty six,
and OT also in ot Evansville North Over Princeton sixty
seven to sixty one.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Welcome back everyone, This is Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk.
We are so glad you could join us. The state
finals as always have been fantastic and the Lucas Oil Stadium.
If you're on your way back home after watching the
great action there, please be careful, carefully, and it's it's
(05:04):
a it's a great, great day of football. However, let's
talk some basketball and football. John Rick joins me from
the IU Sports Network. Where would you like to start?
How about how about we do this sequentially. Let's start
with basketball. A great non conference win again today. Uh,
tell me about our basketball Hoosiers, who, like their football counterparts,
(05:28):
haven't lost a game right now?
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Yeah yeah, Bob.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
But first of all, you got an undefeated men's basketball
team and undefended undefeated women's basketball team and undefeated football team.
There's two people at Indiana University that deserve a ton
of credit for that, and their names are Scott Dolson,
the athletic director and Pam Witten, the president. Those two
have overseen and they have gotten out in front of
(05:54):
all this nil stuff and transfer portal stuff, and look
at what it's done. They have and they've hired the
right people. Terry Morris is right the right leader leader
for the women. Ye, Darren DeVries the right leader for
the men. And obviously we know about Kurtzignetti on the
football side. So the greatness of IU athletics right now
so much to do with the coaches and the players,
of course, but those two people need to be at
(06:16):
the forefront. But yeah, in the way of the game today, Bob,
it was a Tucker Degrees got fouled on a three
point shot and made the free throw and took the
lead for the first time against Pethune Cookman go up
four to three, and that's really kind of where it
all started, and before you knew it, Indiana led by
twenty eight at the half. The shooting was sensational. They
(06:37):
shot seven of eighteen from three in the first half
and then five of thirteen in the second half. They
moved the ball so incredibly well, and that looked like
the offense to the first three games of the season
before they cooled off and they reheated back up again
with that huge win against Kansas State on Tuesday night,
and then it was just a team effort from everybody.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
Tuck The debrees of course lead the way.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
Lamar Wilkerson, who had a shooting slump, he comes back
and gets really hot today, scores eighteen points, and then
Sam Alexis, Trent Sicily, and Nick Dorn all have fourteen points.
This was just about as well balanced and well executed
of a game as you could have if you're the
Indiana Met's basketball team.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
So am I misreading this group? Well balanced is a
great way to put it. Unselfish, deep talented. How am
I doing so far?
Speaker 3 (07:29):
You're You're totally right, Bob?
Speaker 4 (07:31):
And the other thing to to accentuate the unselfishness part
twenty seven assists for this basketball team today on thirty
six made field.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
It doesn't get any better than that.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
And then watching some of some of tape for some
of the tape from Darren Devries's old teams at Drake
and last year at West Virginia.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
This is how to play. They move the ball around.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
They may not be the most talented bunch, and they
will have a you know, they're going to have an
uphill battle in some ways in the big but they're
going to compete in every single game they play in
because of the way they play.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
Yeah, and I think you're going to be able to
you like what you see because you see a great effort,
you see a consistent effort, and you actually can look
out there on the floor and see a plan being
carried out.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
Yeah, and I think to that idea, the big plan
that Darren Devrees talked about in his pregame interview with
Don Fisher today. He was talking about how he was
concerned about complacency setting in. It's Thanksgiving holiday. You're coming
off that big win against Kansas State. But Student Cookman
has some athletic players and they took Auburn to overtime
in a game and loss. So they came close to
(08:44):
winning that game though. So Debrez's message to the team
was you'd better not let your foot off the gas
here because if you do and you look ahead to
the next Big Ten game against Minnesota, you look ahead
to Louisville, you're going to have a problem, but this
team did not do that. They were just on the
money right from the get go. And Darren sun Tucker
has certainly helped set the tone and then the rest
(09:06):
of the guys just fellas suit, just followed suit perfectly.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
John Harrick with US the IU Sports Network, Who's Yours
beat Bethune Cookman one hundred to fifty six today, John,
we talked about the depth and the skills. This is
a team that can knock down threes, can put it
on the deck and get to the rim in a hurry.
You talked about their passing. Defensively, they play hard, put
(09:32):
a lot of pressure on you make it. They can
test everything. It's you know, you've got about a minute here,
but address those particular issues if you can.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
Yeah. I speaking of the defensive front.
Speaker 4 (09:47):
Bob Connor, right, He's the guy that sets the tone
on the defensive side. He had seven assists today. He
always goes out and guards the other team's best player,
makes their life a nightmare. He gets up in their
face and he did that all game long against PJ.
Haggerty on Tuesday. He had another great game today. He
sets the tone and when they play man demand, they
(10:07):
play a little bit of zone sometimes but mostly man.
When they play that pressure, man demand, it is pretty
hard to drive on them.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
All right, hang on here through this scoreboard update, you
know the drill, and we'll come back and talk a
little football in addition to basketball with John Herrick from
the IU Sports Network.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
I'm Brendan King with this network Indiana scoreboard update here
on Indiana Sports Talk. As we told you at the
top of the hour, the Pacers, for the first time
this year, have won back to back games tonight over
the Bulls one hundred and three to one hundred and
one on a game winning shot by Pascal Siakam.
Speaker 5 (10:43):
Here's how it sounded, with Mark Boyle.
Speaker 6 (10:45):
Inbound pass challenged by Vucevic, them, Hart has it them
Hart looking, got it into Siaka seven seconds to play.
He's out near the logo, puts it on the floor,
starts his drive, pulls up right wing. He got it
off and he hit it with one to a second
to play, a right wing jump shot, and that's the game.
Indiana wins it one o three, one oh one.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
Siakam was double teamed on the play by Chicago Still
hit the shot. Stat sheet stuff for tonight Pascal twenty
four points, nine rebounds, four assists, two steals, two blocks,
but he was a plus twenty two on the floor.
What did this guy not do? As the Pacers go
back to back for the first time this year, winning
yesterday over the Wizards and tonight over the Bulls. Just
(11:30):
going final at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Brownsburg Bulldogs they
also go back to back as they defeat Westfield in
the six A state title game, thirty eight to thirty
one the final score as the Bulldogs out last Westfield.
John Hart and company from Brownsburg have won back to
back six A state titles and that officially wraps up
(11:53):
this IHSAA football State Finals weekend. Congratulations to the Bulldogs
again thirty one. Brownsburg was up three scores at the
start of the fourth quarter, Westfield just scoring, most recently
with fourteen seconds left to make it a seven point game.
Speaker 5 (12:08):
I'm running kick.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
Welcome back everyone. John Herrick from the IU Sports Network
rejoins us. All right, John, we've talked about basketball. When
do they When do the Hoosiers get back? Connection?
Speaker 4 (12:21):
So the next game for the for the IU basketball
team is on Wednesday night, they will be on the
road at Minnesota in the Barn what it's called not
a fun place to play if you're a road team.
Is I'm sure you know so. But you know Minnesota
is not one of the premier teams in.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
The Big Ten so far this year. They're not.
Speaker 4 (12:41):
They're not Michigan, they're not Michigan State, they're not Purdue.
But they are always a challenge when you play them
on the road. And then after you play them on
Wednesday night, then you've got the Saturday Mayhem.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
Day is what I call it.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
There's where you have the double diff or you've got
the IU men's basketball team playing Louisville and you've got
the IU football team playing Ohio State for the Big
Ten Championship game later in the same day at ron
Soil Stadium after IU plays Louisville at Gambridge Field House.
So what a day This upcoming Saturday is going to be.
(13:14):
Oh And also I'll just throw this out there, Mike
Depad Tigers beat Wisconsin Whitewater today, so they are continuing
on in the D three playoffs. They will play Saturday
at noon. Is there anything not going on this upcoming Saturday?
Speaker 7 (13:28):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (13:29):
No, this is one. This is one, literally one for
the record books. Good. I was going to talk about
the Tigers, hopefully Coach Diesel call me, but they they
they win in advance. Uh, that's good stuff, all right,
Big Ten championship game. Uh, it's the two unbeatens. This
is as it ought to be, quite frankly, and I
(13:51):
think the Hoosiers learned an awful lot last year. Uh
in a similar situation. I think it's gonna be. I
think it's going to be a great game. I don't
begin to uh tell people who's gonna win and not win.
I don't know, but it's just it's insane. It's great
for people, uh to be able to go. If you
(14:11):
don't already have a ticket, you may be in trouble.
But how exciting is it? I mean, it's incredible. You
joined the broadcast team and the next thing you know,
football teams undefeated, basketball team's undefeated. And see what's happened
in your two years as part of this operation. That's fantastic. Congratulations,
thank you, Bob.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
I appreciate it well for it's been This is actually,
believe or not, my fourth year and as you might remember,
no way two years no, no, no, yes, it is
the four really yeah, yeah, the first the first two years.
I remember I was calling you on Saturday nights after
some tough.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
Uh to by.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
Those are short conversations, if I remember it.
Speaker 4 (14:56):
Yeah, not always the easiest, but thing to see what
the But you just even though they lost those games, Bob,
you had a feeling that, man, those games were coming
down to sometimes two possessions or one possession or a
frie goal or something like that. And when Signetti got
to IU, you just thought, Okay, well they were in
(15:17):
a lot of one possession games last year. Now you
have a new coach and you look at his record
and he knows how to win, so you can win
a lot of these games where you came up short
and at least play in a bowl game. I don't
think any of us were expecting eleven and two in
year one and then to go undefeated and even build
on it. And then he goes and hits the portal
even better going into the second year, bringing in Rando Mendoza,
(15:41):
upgrading the offensive line, getting more defensive stars that are
really making a difference on the defensive line to go
along with you know, Mikyle Kamara Aiden, Fisher and D'Angelo
cons who were the cornerstones and the defense coming in.
So it's just what Kurt Signetti has been able to do.
There is nothing short of remarkable. And he there and
(16:02):
a lot of people thought that he was just brash
and it was all style when he first got it. Yes,
him just trying to stir up the pot, but that's
not him at all. That he got people's attention and
then he showed that there is a lot of substance
underneath what.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
John Eric from the IU Sports Network Hoosiers win today,
beat Bethune Cookman next Saturday, taking on Ohio State for
the Big Ten Championship. John and DePaul Tigers win in
advance to the second round of the Division three Football Championship.
It's good to be you, John. Maybe someone that's going
(16:41):
to rub off on me.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
Now, yeah, I think it will. Coach.
Speaker 4 (16:45):
I have confidence in you.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
All right.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
I have a great weekend, John, thanks for the call.
Speaker 3 (16:52):
Not a problem, coach, Thank you.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
Thank you very much. College basketball today, ball State beats
Lafayette Love excuse me, it's the other way around. Well.
Alafi Habee's Ball State fifty five thirty seven. David E
from the Ball State Network. Johines Me, David, thanks to
the call. This is a tough loss tonight for the
for the Cardinals, Yeah.
Speaker 8 (17:14):
No question about it, Bob. I mean you can't. You
just can't sugarcoat when you score ti sevens. I mean,
if you go into a game and you hold the
opponent to fifty five and thirty three percent shooting, the
chance come away with a loss by eighteen just doesn't
seem normal. And the Cardinals, just as you can imagine
(17:37):
what those stats, did not shoot it at all. I
mean you're talking ice cold three for twenty nine, Bob
from three point Land, I mean thirteen of fifty nine overall,
twenty two percent. I mean there was an absolute lid
on the basket. Oh not as if. It's not as
(17:58):
if they ran bad offense or took bad shots. They
literally they got paint touches, kickouts, I mean talking great
looks and nobody could make a shot. And it was
just an incredibly tough way to lose a basketball game,
that's for sure.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
It was the.
Speaker 8 (18:16):
Second of three games here at Lafayette in a MTE.
So Cardinals, Uh, yeah, no doubt about it. Tonight was tough.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
And you're you're sitting there a court side and you're
watching it and you're shaking your head and you're thinking, okay, well,
you look, they they got to start making shots and
they don't make them. And it's you know how it is.
It's every coach's nightmare. I used to have that recurring
dream that, you know, my team would play a game
where we didn't make a hoop in the first half
(18:50):
and they didn't miss. We missed every shot we took.
They made every shot they took. It's kind of like
watching this in real time tonight.
Speaker 8 (18:58):
There's no question about it. And and Lafayette was two
of fourteen from three and so you know that was
the thing. It was like nobody and and you know,
as as a coach, and you could see what happens,
Bob is it just gets tighter and tighter for everybody
because they're all missing. And then you start thinking about
(19:20):
it and it just you know, it's just gets exasperated
and uh, yeah, it was. There's no other way to
say it. I mean, it's just one of those you
got to try to flush and put out.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
Of your memory.
Speaker 8 (19:32):
And uh and you know you don't have to wait long.
You come back tomorrow at noon game against Lemoine. But
you know, there was only two players and double figures
and you know, and an unfortunate injury.
Speaker 7 (19:46):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (19:46):
The Cardinals played without Caden Fish who hurt his back
last night. They're undersized as it is, and their other
big Cam Denson goes out with a dislocated toe. So uh,
it's really uh, the really late right now.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
I feel badly. I've been in that situation unfortunately. You know,
it's if you talk to the sports performance experts, they'll
tell you that that sometimes this is like a like
a yawn, you know, if you're in a group with
people and somebody and somebody yawns, and then suddenly someone
else yawns. You know that the yawn continues, and it's
(20:24):
that in some respect, it's kind of a shared experience
and this is what you have and you start you
start to miss, and then you're thinking, Okay, our best
shooter is not going to have that kind of night
he does, and sometimes you're you're literally powerless to change that.
Speaker 8 (20:39):
Yeah, that's exactly exactly right, and you and you could
feel it like with every miss. Oh yeah, and again
they weren't missing close. I mean they were missing bad
and and you know it's kind of like a poor
free throw shooting team, right, do you know some coaches
have the philosophy, well, I'm not even going to play it,
play it up or talk about it, because then they'll
(21:01):
just start thinking about it more. So, you know, it
will be curious tomorrow how the Cardinals bounce back, and uh,
you know, just just hope, like heck, particularly in in
the first half, that a couple guys can knock them
in and then all of a sudden, everybody take a
deep breath and say, Okay, We're okay, right.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
Right, David e Hoff and the Ball State Network Cardinals
lose to Lafayette fifty five thirty seven. Taking on is
it Lemoyne tomorrow? Right tomorrow, David, Best best of luck
to the Cards. I appreciate the call, have a great weekend.
Speaker 8 (21:40):
You got a coach.
Speaker 1 (21:41):
Thanks. That's not good. They're not good shooting at all.
Best of luck to the Cardinals. Score It update with
Brendan King. This is Indiana Sports Talk.
Speaker 5 (21:51):
What's going on?
Speaker 2 (21:52):
I'm Brendan King with this network Indiana scoreboard update here
on Indiana's Sports Talk. As we told you last update, officially,
the fifty IHSAA football state finals have come to a
conclusion with Brownsburg taking down Westfield in the six A
state title final thirty eight to thirty one. Despite a
fourteen point fourth quarter by Westfield, Brownsburg hangs on. The
(22:15):
Bulldogs were up three scores as the fourth quarter got
underway and they prevail with back to back six A
state titles. How about the Brownsburg running back Aiden Joe
twenty nine carries one hundred and twenty yards, three touchdown
scores and their leading receiver Brandon Sharp took it offensively
through the air four grabs for one hundred and fifty
(22:35):
one yards and a touchdown score. Brownsburg has done it
again and the Bulldogs win the six A state title.
By the way, congratulations In order to Westfield's Cash Ballard,
the Mental Attitude Award winner for Class six A. If
I'm not mistaken, we will have to check this. I
believe Cash Ballard is the son of Chris Ballard. Chris
(22:57):
Ballard's son Cole, was the former quarterback at Field, and
I believe Cash is his younger son. Again, we will
be sure to check that and let you know. But
if so, that is a fantastic story, as Cash Ballad
is the Mental Attitude Award winner from Class six A
college football. Tonight, as mentioned, Notre Dame about to get
(23:18):
started from Palo Alto the number nine Irish at nine
to two winners of nine consecutive games. It's an zero
and two start their final regular season opponent Andrew Luck
Frank Reich and the cardinal kick off coming up in
just a matter of moments. From California, I'm Brendan King.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
Welcome back everyone. This is Indiana Sports Talk, brought to
you by Indiana Donor Network. Brendan King, the foundation of
the sports Talk Nation is with us. After doing the
two A championship game. Pretty good games today, Brendan, you
thought yours with all the goal line stands and all
of that, and Andre and holding the highest scoring team
(23:56):
in the state to no Touchsdowds no points. The Dinger
Run College game is a one score game, Brownsburg repeating
over Westfield. Congratulations to Westfield. I know it's disappointing two
straight usually losing the championship game, but you know you
ended your seasons playing for a championship. So what an incredible,
(24:17):
incredible year of football, Brendan King.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
Incredible year of football. Coach, and I did just confirm
it here as you went back on the air. Cash
Ballard is the youngest son of Chris Ballard and he
is the six A Mental Attitude Award winner. So how
about that cash Ballard winning the Mental Attitude Award in
the building that his dad basically runs.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
That's cool stuff.
Speaker 5 (24:38):
That's a cool story. Good for them for doing that.
Speaker 1 (24:40):
Yeah, that that is that's that's cool stuff. Okay, speaking
of that building, how would you like to be the
staff at Lucas Oil Stadium because you you have a
you have a turnaround now, I mean you're you're set
up for football, right, So it's not like you're doing
It's not like you know the people at Gamebridge who
(25:01):
were had a basketball game and then have to turn
around and have a concert tomorrow morning. No, it's not
one of those things kinds of things. But you're still
transforming and massive facility in a turnaround of a short
amount of time. You get a one o'clock kick for tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (25:17):
Well I could I can tell you this.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
When I got to Lucas Little Stadium this morning, the
food service and cleaning staff were hard at work riding
the elevators bringing up all kinds of food prep for tomorrow.
And I'll tell you what, it took everything in me
to not grab a snack off of these big carts
that they were rolling around because it looked fantastic. They
were bringing all the stuff for the sweets that they're
(25:43):
gonna have tomorrow morning and afternoons. I baked that all today.
So again, as I was getting on the elevator today,
all those people were coming off the elevator and it
looked fantastic. So yeah, all the people are hard at
work getting it's set for Colts Texans tomorrow. And of
course they got some field manny hearing to do as well,
because they got to take off the high school hash marks,
(26:03):
they got to put back right NFL hash marks, and
you know, I got to do a few other things
as well. But hey, they'll be ready to play and
a big game coming up tomorrow for the Colts.
Speaker 5 (26:12):
Coach with C. J.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
Stroud cleared the play out of concrushing protocol for Houston.
Speaker 5 (26:17):
It is going to be a challenge.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
So tell me about this matchup. You know this, Yeah,
you know they're now into that as we've talked about
in the entire season, into that stretch where you're going
to decide whether or not you're going to be a
caliber a team of the caliber playing in playoffs.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
Well, the Colts also need to decide, coach, if they're
serious about winning the division, because again, that has really
been the thing that has been the bugaboo of the
last decade, right where you might get off to a
solid start, but you just do not perform well in
division games. Now, credit the Colts, they took care of
business both times they saw the Titans. But coach, this
is a crucial two weeks ahead with Houston coming in tomorrow,
(26:55):
and then you got to go to Jacksonville the week after.
And I'll tell you what, Coach, Jacksonville's playing good football
seven and four, and they've got some weapons. Houston arguably
is one of the best defenses in the league. And
they get their starting quarterback back. I'll tell you what,
they look pretty darn good with their backup Davis Mills,
who everybody kind of wrote off as this guy stinks.
He was pretty good the last number of weeks, so
(27:16):
he gets drought back. Coach, and again, these are two
games where simply if the Colts are a serious Super
Bowl contender, you must take care of business here, and
you must find a way to win these two games,
because you can ill afford right now with an eighty
to three record to drop these two or even one,
considering that Jacksonville seven and four Houston is six and five.
If you stumble at any point these next couple weeks,
(27:37):
suddenly that division race is on and it's going to
be a challenge the rest of the way, considering who
the Colts still have left on their schedule, knowing you
have to go to Seattle, knowing you still have some
high profile matchups on the way.
Speaker 1 (27:49):
And Daniel Jones is healthy or as.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
Health as well healthy as you can right because you
know what I mean. Yeah, ESPN's Adam Schefter officially confirming
and again this is you know, kind of through the
rumor mill, but Schefters as plugged in as anybody, that
Daniel Jones has a broken fractured fibula, you know, be it.
We don't know exactly how severe that is, but he's
gonna play through it. And credit the guy for playing
(28:13):
through and playing through pain. But as we saw last
week in the Kansas City game, and Caleb can touch
on this because he was physically there, you know, the
Daniel Jones that we saw late in that game, you know,
was kind of glimpses of the Daniel Jones that was,
you know, the guy that was set out in New York.
So we got we gotta find the Daniel Jones that
was here for the first seven weeks of this football
season and get him back in there. Now again, Uh,
(28:35):
fractured fibula, can't imagine that feels too good to run on, slash,
feels too good to get tackled on. But hey, you
know what, if he's gonna play, you gotta hunker down
and get in there because right now, remember Anthony Richardson
is still on injured reserve, So the backup quarterback is
Riley Leonard, the former Notre Dame man, just in case
Daniel Jones gets further hurt.
Speaker 1 (28:55):
So just being a Notre Dame a great segue. Notre
Dame getting ready to as you point, kick off against Stanford. Yep,
So another w continues to solidify their running the CFP,
does it not?
Speaker 2 (29:09):
It would It would definitely punch them in knowing their
number nine and you know, Stanford's only four and seven,
but they have been better over the last number of weeks.
They really struggled early in the year. They lost to Hawaii,
they lost to BYU. You know, they've put They've punched
out a couple wins. They beat Florida State, they beat
Boston College, they just beat California. So you know, again,
it's not a Stanford team that is going to blow
(29:31):
you away with talent. But hey, i'll tell you what.
They're playing for something tonight, coach, because it's frank Reich's
last game. Sanford has officially hired to Vita Pritchard. He's
the quarterback coach for the Washington Commanders. And it was
always frank Reich being on an interim basis. He knew
he was going to have a single year. Andrew Luck
told him that. And I'll tell you what, coach again,
(29:52):
those Stanford Cardinal players they're gonna be playing for Frank
Reik tonight. So this is not gonna be an Notre
Dame team that can just walk into Palo Alto and
blow the doors off of the Standford team. Knowing that
the Cardinal, even though they will not be BUWL eligible,
they're playing for their coach. And I'm sure you know
something about players playing for their coach knowing that yeah,
you guys do that for you for years and years
and years, right, and when you're playing for Pride again,
(30:13):
this is not a guaranteed win it all for Notre Dame.
So just keep a heads up tonight in Paulo Alta
on this late start. It's gonna be fun.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
The coaching you tells tells you. You tell your players,
you know, don't play it for me, You played for
each other. And you start out the beginning of the
year saying, you know, this is for us. We do
these things for us, not for me, not for the calls,
not for now. We're all doing it for We're all
doing it for us. And you know that whole concept
(30:40):
is you sell the concept of don't let your buddies down.
That that's your overwriting philosophy. Everything you do, you have
to do to make sure you do not let your
pals down. And you know you're all in it. And again,
you don't play you play for yourselves. That's the whole point.
That's why so much fun, all right, mister Foundation the
(31:03):
Sports Talk Nation.
Speaker 5 (31:04):
I'm honored.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
I like the no. I like the ring to that
that I told you that title was reserved for Michael Bray.
No man, he's not here, and he's not here, I say,
we give it to you.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
Well, I tell you what, Michael Grady hasn't been here
for a while, so that name has been retired for
a bit.
Speaker 5 (31:18):
So I'm honored.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
Wells, it's uh, it's hanging in the rafters here at
the house. All right, Pacers go back to back, my brother,
how about it? Scott Agnes joins me from the field house.
Files be Pacers beat the Bulls one o three, one
oh one. Pascal Siakam at the horn, Scottie, there's bedlam
at Gainbridge Fieldhouse tonight.
Speaker 9 (31:42):
Yeah, sure was. You could just maybe sends the bunce
up for a moment like this, right. There are now twenty.
Speaker 7 (31:49):
Games into the season, coach, and this is their first
wind streak, two games in a row after getting it
done tonight over Chicago Bulls. And yes they're pros. Look
this was our fourth game in six days. It was
their third game in four days they played last night.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
So you don't have a full roster.
Speaker 9 (32:09):
Yeah, and that's a given right now.
Speaker 7 (32:11):
And Jay Hoff starts at center again, scores their first
fourteen points, and then Siakam finishes with that game winning
jumper let's.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
Go back see the thing. You're not surprised that knocks
down a game winning with two guys hanging on and
that that you know, that's another day at the office
for him. But Jay Huff going fourteen in a row,
Come on, where did disc come from?
Speaker 9 (32:34):
Yeah, I think he's finally settled in.
Speaker 7 (32:36):
Like I've talked to it, I think the situation is
he is one of the new pieces that had to adapt,
that had to learn how this team operates. And I thought,
right training camp and the into the start of the.
Speaker 9 (32:47):
Season, you could see him a little.
Speaker 7 (32:49):
Bit gasped with the plane style. Obviously there's a big
learning curve, and so much of what this team does
had been predicated on Reid react. Not as much play calls,
but like right, more concepts and things like that. And
then also I think having Andrew Nemhart back at point
guard stable ze right things too, for sure. And now
all of a sudden, coaches scored in double figures in
(33:12):
four straight games. He's been effective and more than anything,
as I repeated to you last week, he's leading them
in blocks. He's leading the whole league.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
Scott, Scott, we have to go to a break, hang
on through this can you you got it perfect? Thank you.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
I'm Brendan King with this network Indiana scoreboard update here
on Indiana Sports Talk. The IHSAA football State Finals are
officially complete. We are going to detail everything we saw
here on the weekend coming up here at the top
of the hour at eleven PM. Well final scores, while
highlights will have Mental Attitude award winners. We will put
(33:49):
a bow on everything from this weekend in just a
short matter of time. That also takes us in to
what's going to come for the next number of months
on this program. High school basket and tonight. The weather
not really helping out a lot of games. There have
been forty eight postponements across the state of Indiana tonight
on the hardwood, but many games were played, including some tournaments,
(34:11):
including in the Logodi Tournament Round one overtime, Owen Valley
outlasted Christian Academy fifty six to fifty five. Also, Logodi
Blue pass Evansville Day sixty four to twenty eight to
get to the championship game for third place. Christian Academy
earned the victory over Evansville Day forty one twenty six.
(34:32):
Lastly for first place, Logodi wins their own tournament rightfully
so fifty three to thirty seven over Owen Valley. The
Lawrenceville Tournament out of Illinois saw Vincin's Lincoln in action.
Vincin's Lincoln splits the pair. They lost to only a
high squad of Illinois to start the day forty seven
to thirty one. But then vin Sins Lincoln turned around
(34:53):
and defeated Fairfield, also from Illinois, forty nine to forty five.
Also high school basketball, Tonight, high profile game Zionsville getting
the best of Ben Davis fifty three forty eight in
a key game early in this high school hoop season.
Speaker 1 (35:08):
I'm Brendan King, welcome back, Scott Agnes rejoins me for
the field House Files. I say this every time Scott's on,
But seriously, you want to get smarter about the Pacers
and the fever, you should be logged on right now,
right there in your house or with your tablet reading
the field House Files. Pacers go back to back. They
(35:29):
beat the Bulls to night one O three one oh one.
Pascal Siakam Drains won at the horn all right, so
game winner uh before gone conclusion? What twenty thousand people
in the building. Know who's gonna shoot the ball.
Speaker 7 (35:42):
Right, Yeah, at this point it's got to be Siakam
or probably.
Speaker 9 (35:47):
The yeah hand. In previous years, we knew it.
Speaker 7 (35:49):
Was Halliburton because right been one of the most clutch
players in NBA history last season.
Speaker 1 (35:56):
Yeah, I mean the run he was on. But you
know what this is, Listen, they haven't really played bad basketball.
I know the record is what it is, but I'd
be hard pressed to believe there's another team that's been
this ravaged by injuries worse than what the Pacers have
gone through.
Speaker 9 (36:15):
Yeah, they're making the best of it. Right.
Speaker 7 (36:16):
There was that stretch of about eight games with double
digit losses, but that's right, that was really early on,
right when they were down about eight nine players and
had four players on hardship contracts. They're by no means perfect,
but they're getting there. For example, Johnny Furphy, second year player,
practice with the G League team today and more telling
coach as a whole is you're finally starting to see
(36:38):
some defense. The last three games, they've given up ninety
seven eighty six in one oh one about that one
hundred point level. Earlier in the season, it was one
twenty eight one, twenty two, one fourteen, and so that's
been one of the trends that's going on, in addition
to guys getting health healthy and more confident I think
in their roles.
Speaker 1 (36:59):
Yeah, I think it's like anything else. I mean it's
you literally have a you know, a reworked roster from
last year. It's pretty well chronicled. Everyone understands it. It
takes a while when you're trying to fill in different
spect and you're asking people to do different things than
what they have previously done. Uh, And so you know,
rules and responsibilities and obligations have changed dramatically. Your personnel
(37:23):
hasn't it. You've lost obviously some key players, but it's different,
and no one's going to give you any sympathy. They're
all trying to beat you anyway. So this is an
important This is an important win. I mean, it's a
significant thing. You go in there and go, yeah, we
we're on a winning streak and we haven't had any
so let's let's just relish the fact that we are
(37:44):
literally on a win streak right now. So who's up next?
For these guys, back to backers are tough to win anyway, Scott,
Who's up?
Speaker 9 (37:51):
There they are no matter who you play.
Speaker 7 (37:53):
Yeah, it was important to get off to a good start.
It's a four game homestand seven other next nine games
that which started on Friday, So they remain at home
basically for the next several weeks. And we're back in
action Monday against a good Cavaliers team.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
It's good to be you. Then you don't have to travel.
You're gonna be. You're gonna be your office's Gamebridge Field House.
What a gig for having sax.
Speaker 7 (38:16):
Yes, and yesterday it was Lucas Oil Stadium for a
pair of high school football games.
Speaker 9 (38:20):
So Chach, I'm sure you've talked about it is next Saturday.
What the downtown Indy is certainly a lobby with IU
basketball and football. My goodness, my goodness.
Speaker 1 (38:31):
So what games did you do for the HSAA Champions Network?
What game did you do?
Speaker 7 (38:38):
I had Pioneer in South Putnam one A and Bishop
Blue Cascade three A.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
Dude, you had two really good games. You really did.
Speaker 9 (38:46):
I did.
Speaker 7 (38:47):
And let me tell you something into your audience that
everyone needs to know.
Speaker 9 (38:50):
I've been covering high school football or high school sports for.
Speaker 7 (38:53):
A while, nothing like you, But my goodness, Cascade I'm
just talking humans for good football, starting with Connor Simon
and go right to the quarterback Brady Trebley and on
down Dayton Mink.
Speaker 9 (39:05):
I talked with him after the game on the field.
Speaker 7 (39:07):
They have been better interviews in some of the pros
that I have taught. Their understanding of what to say,
how to set one another, and their fighting is They've
been together, you know, nineteen of them since they were
fifth and sixth graders, and so for them to complete
the undefeated season that was that was a highlight for
me yesterday.
Speaker 9 (39:26):
Really special Cascade team.
Speaker 1 (39:28):
That's a that's a great way to put it. That's
well said. Scott Agnes from this Fieldhouse Files. Go there.
Make sure you make that one of your first stops
when you go online. Get smarter about the Pacers and
get smarter about the fever. Scott, thanks for the call.
I have a great weekend.
Speaker 9 (39:47):
Yeah, I appreciate that you too.
Speaker 3 (39:49):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (39:51):
Welcome back, everybody. This is Indiana Sports Souff. We're glad
you're with us. We're wrapping up high school football. We
started Indiana Sports Talk in nineteen ninety four, August ninety four,
first year you know of the show, Our first football season.
I'm an ex basketball coach, an ex college basketball coach.
(40:17):
I played football at Plainfield High School. I was a
quarterback and on a thoroughly average football team. My senior
year ravaged by injuries, but enjoyed it. So, you know
it was that first year was was interesting, had we
(40:37):
had a good time. So this is our thirty second
season of football. High school football in our state is
gratifying to know that, you know, we our audience has
increased and this is a destination I think for high
school football and basketball fans, and we're thankful that think
(41:01):
enough of us to have done that this long. And
so this is always a special time. Tournament play, Championship
weekends are always special. And we have listened. We have
another hour coming and we're still going to continue to
talk about that. Greg raystro will join us, Paul Condrey
will join us, and talk more high school football as
(41:22):
we get ready for basketball. There have been basketball games played,
and I went back and forth trying to think whether
I was gonna, you know, engage the basketball coaches, and
I thought, well, you know what, let's just let football
have its day. Let them have their moment. It's great
kids winning Championships Minlada due to wards and then next
(41:44):
weekend we'll jump in with both feet and talk about basketball.
Before we know it, we'll be playing the Championships of
gambris Field as Brendan King, give me an update on
your Irish Have they started or are they winning?
Speaker 2 (41:57):
Coach started and winning? Jared Ramiah Love, who's surprised here?
First touchdown of the names Heisman candidate already on the scoreboard.
It's seven to nothing. Notre Dame coach from Palo Alto.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
Boy, you know what, it's cool in the state of Indiana.
We got to the two of the uh I think
best candidates for Heisman the Heisman Trophy. Jeremiah Love, what
is it? What more do you want this guy to
do for you?
Speaker 9 (42:21):
For having sex?
Speaker 5 (42:22):
It's incredible, It's incredible.
Speaker 9 (42:24):
It really is.
Speaker 2 (42:26):
Notre Dame history. But I think he is so complimentary
to Jadarian Price and what he does on an everyday basis,
considering they're kind of two different runners. I think Price
is a little more physical, Jeremiah Loves a little bit
more elusive, and they compliment each other so well coached,
and you know, Notre Dame has had some great running
backs over the years. Of course, Rodrick Estima was great,
most recently with Ian Book when he was under center.
(42:47):
But boy, again, it's uh, Jeremiah Love is going to
go down as one of the best ever, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (42:52):
I'm still stunned that they're going to lose their first
two two straight years and run the table. I just
it's an it's to me, that's an incredible story, quite frankly.
Speaker 2 (43:03):
And coach, we talked about it from from the week
it happened. With the back to back losses. You know, again,
Texas A and M that loss understandable. I think Miami
was a little tougher considering how it went and knowing
you were you were in that game, and that was
a game you probably should have had. And you know,
of course Texas A and M has now lost to
Texas and maybe it doesn't look at it right either way. Again,
they did exactly what they needed to do. And again, coach,
(43:23):
in this twelve team system, this is what happens when
you can get yourself in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (43:28):
All right, We're gonna stop for you so we can
hear you. We're back on Indiana Sports Talk.
