He’s also joined by team captain Marley Jeffers to talk about the win. Brandon Appleton of New Haven and Josh King of the Castle Lady Knights talk about their team’s losses before we cover Cambridge City Lincoln, Penn vs Carroll and Mt Vernon vs North Posey. Then, one of the most exciting games tonight was South Knox and North Knox, a contest that ended in a game-winner. Jim Ferris from South Knox joins to break it down. Always good. When Pika North Central lock up, we know
it's going to be a hard fought ball game. This
one that way tonight. I think you have to start
out with how well your kids played defensively?
Speaker 4 (05:11):
Oh, we played really well. The we followed our assignment.
We followed the Scott report of North Central. North Central
has a really lot of good young kids and they
fight hard. But our girls were really sound on defense tonight.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
Sound on defense is how you have to start. One
of the things that you preach up and down is
you know that defense travels, and that certainly is the case.
So tell me, is it close? At what point do
you begin to get an edge?
Speaker 4 (05:44):
It was close the first quarter obviously, the end first
COVI was fifteen fourteen, and then we pulled away in
a second and then we just started to just get
into our groove. And again they did a good job
of Scott a report and change not some things. But
you know, our girls were really good, our captains, our leaders,
we all bought in, we figured out, and we got

We got after as a team.

I think just playing as a team, saying to our
strengths and just you know, we're a really deep team,
so we just played together. Maybe that's who really brought
the limps.

It's hard hard to come out and play against the
team that has the depth that you have, and I
know defensively you wore them down tonight for sure.
Speaker 5 (06:55):
Like we definitely just use our energy against everybody, and
we use our energy and depth. So we just use
our girls from all the way to freshman seniors and
just went through it.

Yeah, it wasn't what we expected tonight having them on
our home court. But and hats off to Blackhawk christ
And they got a couple sophomores that can just slat
out play and the pieces they have around them make
it a real tough team to defend, and they do
a great job and what they do well.

Is there a point in this game where they're able
to take command of it?
Speaker 7 (08:39):
Yeah, just early in the first half, we just were
not playing defense the way we're cable playing. And they're
a team. You know, you give them that much space,
they're going to make shots and make plays. And you
know that steft kid that they have does not stop
moving offensively, whether it's getting the offensive glass or just
moving the offense. Really, you have to stay very disciplined

to get him out of his game. And you know
because they they they made a little run there in
the second quarter on us. It we just we couldn't
come back from him. We played a great half, second
half defensively, but by then the lead was just too
too much for us to overcome.

ladies tonight.

Yeah, I'm we battled through. We had a game last
night at a conference game, so our whole focus, you know,
was for our conference game, and we had a quick
turnaround against Fishers and just came.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
Up a little bit short, as you mentioned, tough turnaround
for you and your kids. Was this a game, was
it close or did they have Are you up at
any point in this game?
Speaker 9 (12:54):
Yeah, I mean we we started off and it was
a scoring battle. I mean after the first quarter we
were down to twenty eighteen, and then we just had
a really bad second quarter where we just couldn't find
any rhythm on the offensive end. And it was one
of those things. They had a week off between games
and they were really ready for us, and we had

a game Monday, and we had a game Thursday, which
was our conference game, and you know, our focus was
on that, and so we had a quick turnaround, try
to do a little playfall review scout against them, you know,
just right after school and anything that we tried to
run against their main defense. They were calling it out
(13:37):
on us, which they did a great job scouting us,
and right we had to make some adjustments during the
second half. Our second quarter, they at one point got
up seventeen, but then made some adjustments at half, and
we actually ended up taking the lead in the fourth
quarter by two, but then just came up a little short.

Tell me who plays well for you tonight, coach.
Speaker 9 (14:03):
It's always Jade and Scott. I mean, she's our she's
our scorer, but she does a lot of other things,
gets a lot of deflections on the defensive end. She
ended up with twenty one. Jordan Poolhouse was she's you know,
she's five ten and Fisher's got one girl six' four
and two three other girls over six foot or six

foot or, more and it's kind of hard to compete with, that,
Right but she did a great job just battling all,
night and she ended up with twelve AND i think eight.
Rebounds so she just did a great job for, us
just battling all the way.

Tonight so he's a solid left handed player for us
and does a really good job around the ram and shooting,
free so that helped. Him we had a Salt more
guard step up tonight that hasn't shot particularly well this
year so, far but he really knocked his shots down
to night and had seventeen. Points so and then our
senior point guard had, thirteen so we were you, know
we got with some, inexperience but we're getting where we
need to.

put forth a better effort all the way around, tonight

and The cougar certainly did. That they got out to
a four point lead at the end of the first
quarter and actually got it up to sixth there in

they turned the game around with their defense and their
senior Forward Jack, fussel really got things going in that second.

has a really lot of good young kids and they
fight hard. But our girls were really sound on defense tonight.

you know that defense travels, and that certainly is the case.

And they got a couple sophomores that can just slat
out play and the pieces they have around them make
it a real tough team to defend, and they do
a great job and what they do well.

to take command of it?

Yeah, just early in the first half, we just were
not playing defense the way we're cable playing. And they're
a team. You know, you give them that much space,
they're going to make shots and make plays. And you
know that steft kid that they have does not stop
moving offensively, whether it's getting the offensive glass or just
moving the offense. Really, you have to stay very disciplined

to get him out of his game. And you know
because they they they made a little run there in
the second quarter on us. It we just we couldn't
come back from him. We played a great half, second
half defensively, but by then the lead was just too
too much for us to overcome.

Yeah, I'm we battled through. We had a game last
night at a conference game, so our whole focus, you know,
was for our conference game, and we had a quick
turnaround against Fishers and just came.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
Up a little bit short, as you mentioned, tough turnaround
for you and your kids. Was this a game, was
it close or did they have Are you up at
any point in this game?
Speaker 9 (12:54):
Yeah, I mean we we started off and it was
a scoring battle. I mean after the first quarter we
were down to twenty eighteen, and then we just had
a really bad second quarter where we just couldn't find
any rhythm on the offensive end. And it was one
of those things. They had a week off between games
and they were really ready for us, and we had
(13:16):
a game Monday, and we had a game Thursday, which
was our conference game, and you know, our focus was
on that, and so we had a quick turnaround, try
to do a little playfall review scout against them, you know,
just right after school and anything that we tried to
run against their main defense. They were calling it out
(13:37):
on us, which they did a great job scouting us,
and right we had to make some adjustments during the
second half. Our second quarter, they at one point got
up seventeen, but then made some adjustments at half, and
we actually ended up taking the lead in the fourth
quarter by two, but then just came up a little short.

Tell me who plays well for you tonight, coach.

It's always Jade and Scott. I mean, she's our she's
our scorer, but she does a lot of other things,
gets a lot of deflections on the defensive end. She
ended up with twenty one. Jordan Poolhouse was she's you know,
she's five ten and Fisher's got one girl six' four
and two three other girls over six foot or six

foot or, more and it's kind of hard to compete with, that,
Right but she did a great job just battling all,
night and she ended up with twelve AND i think eight.

Tonight so he's a solid left handed player for us
and does a really good job around the ram and shooting,
free so that helped. Him we had a Salt more
guard step up tonight that hasn't shot particularly well this

senior point guard had, thirteen so we were you, know
we got with some, inexperience but we're getting where we
need to.

team it was a very welcome tested game in the first,

saturday in the second, half so they were looking to
put forth a better effort all the way around, tonight

and The cougar certainly did. That they got out to
a four point lead at the end of the first
quarter and actually got it up to sixth there in
the second, quarter But corridan came back despite foul. Trouble
they turned the game around with their defense and their
senior Forward Jack, fussel really got things going in that second.
