Marion in a high scoring one out lasting Indiana. Wesleyan
fifty two to forty two was the final score there.
Taylor blew the doors off of Judson sixty three seven.
It was trined by a field goal over Albion thirty
eight to thirty five. Wabash blank Dennis In thirty six

depat as they zero Wittenberg twenty eight to zip. That
(03:47):
should set up for a pretty good Monon Bell game
here this year for the Colts. We'll take on the
Rams tomorrow. Colts in La. Shane Steiken talking about the
challenge of going against Matthew Stafford.
Speaker 8 (03:58):
Wh's got to be locked in defensively, know he's a
great player, and then defensively looking at them, you know
they got a good front versus a hell of a
pass rusher. They got some good players on defense, so
to be a hell of a challenge, you know, going
out to La.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
For the Indiana Fever losing last night in the WNBA
semi finals to Las Vegas eighty four to seventy two.
Fever trail the series best of five, two games to one.
They'll face elimination tomorrow at Gamebridge Field House, three pm start,

Brendan King.
Speaker 5 (04:41):
Welcome back, everybody.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
This is Indiana Sportstock, brought to you by Indiana Donor Network.
Thanks for listening last night to our show or Friday
night version of Indiana Sports Sock. I can't imagine that
you haven't heard us on Friday nights, but if in
fact that's the truth, Number one, shame on you. And
number two, you missed the law. We had thirty calls
(05:05):
last night on the show talking about high school football.
As we normally do on Saturday nights, we call upon
the one and only Paul Condry to make some sense
of what happened last night.
Speaker 5 (05:18):
Great games two.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Number one's got beat tremendous personal individual performances around it.
We're coming up on the Pairing Show on the twelfth
of October, so yes, it's going quickly. We'll be talking
about week number seven, so make sure you join us
for that. Brendan King, did you go to homecoming at
(05:40):
Butler today?
Speaker 5 (05:42):
Coach?
Speaker 2 (05:42):
At thirty years old? It's getting a little two veterans.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Yeah, by is it creepy you go to homecoming at
your age?
Speaker 2 (05:51):
I wouldn't say that. I wouldn't say that. However, Okay,
I didn't go to homecoming today. However, last night at
the old Butler delt House, we had a little alumni fund,
little alumni cocktail with alumni coming in from the nineteen sixties.
Speaker 5 (06:04):
Coach.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
It was cool, so uh, that was that was awesome.
So a lot of guys came in to hang out
at the old party house last night. However, I typically
today nowadays, I stay away from the homecoming tailgate.
Speaker 5 (06:17):
You know what I went last year? I went back.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
I went to homecoming at Franklin College and it's the
first time i'd been. Uh and I don't even know okay, uh,
And I went because.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
I got a bunch of my players. I remember that call.
That was awesome. Yeah, they they were gonna.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
You know, they were worried about one of our, one
of their teammates, and they said he was coming down
and so we I said, uh, I don't want to,
but I'll do it.
Speaker 5 (06:55):
And it was fun.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
Speaking of Franklin College, the favorite son has me the
voice of the Colts, Matt Taylor with us.
Speaker 7 (07:04):
Hello, Matt Bob, how are you sorry?
Speaker 4 (07:07):
I'm late?
Speaker 7 (07:07):
I got three time zones away here in La All no.
Speaker 5 (07:11):
No, no no.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
I was just reminiscing about you know, Brendan King is
a Butler grad and so homecoming at Butler today and
I was, I was on the subject and I said,
last year was the first year I've gone back to
campus for homecoming in over thirty years.
Speaker 5 (07:30):
And I did it.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
You know, my players wanted to get together and all
that so that you as you know, that's what it takes.
Speaker 5 (07:37):
And so.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
And had a good time. All right, three time zones away.
This is a this is a great matchup now.
Speaker 5 (07:47):
For the Colts tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
You want to talk about a group that can make
an absolute statement, not to be totally cliched to start
off with, they can make one tomorrow.
Speaker 7 (07:57):
Yeah, I completely agree, And I still think spy to
three and oh. Start, you've got some skeptics out there,
and you've got some people that are looking and saying,
all right, you're three and oh, you know that's cute.
You beat the Titans, you beat the Dolphins, right, I mean, listen, right,
in my opinion, beat You beat NFL teams, two of
them by at least twenty one points. All right, that's
not a flute. But you know, they're playing some good football.
(08:20):
But they're going to go out west here and they're
going to play a really good team in the Rams,
who I think should be three and oh they had
a couple of field goals blocked last week that prevented that.
But this is a darn good football team, and I
think a team that's at least positioned to go pretty
far in the NFC playoffs coming up this winner, and
(08:40):
it's a chance to play on a little bit of
a big stage, right, You got the four o'clock window.
That's always right, big time in the national scope of things.
You're on the road to seventy thousand people, and so
to your point, you can go out there and make
a statement and validate what you've done so far in
the first three games of the season.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
It's a constant in the NFL. People get hurt. Key
people get hurt. And the Colts are going through this
in this matchup tomorrow with the Rams.
Speaker 7 (09:10):
Yeah they're down some three key big starters. Yeah yeah,
two of them, two of them. You know, you look
at what they're going to deal with on offense. Down
Alec Pearson, then Matt Gonzalez. They're starting right guard. He's
got a toe pierces in the concussion protocol, so it's
always next man up. So Dalton Tucker, who was an
(09:30):
undrafted free agent last year at A Marshall, he's going
to start at right guard. He started seven games a
season ago and kind of had an up and down
in Doctor Nation into the NFL. But they're confident in
his growth and what he's shown in year number two.
So we'll see, you know, how he can hold up
against that pressure from the Rams. They blitz a ton,
and that's kind of been the theme so far this
(09:52):
season from opposing defenses. They are coming and they are
bringing a lot of people at Daniel Jones into his
credit getting the ball out fast on time and it's
very accurate. And not only are the Colts beating the Blitz.
But they're getting a lot of big plays against the Blitz,
so that's something.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
To watch for tomorrow.
Speaker 7 (10:10):
And then Pierce's absence probably means more time for a
guy like ad Mitchell. And then on defense, the Colts
are down Kenny Moore the second at nickel, So Mike Hilton,
who they signed this week is going to be brought
up off the practice squad.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
All right, Matt, hang on through the scoreboard UPDDE. Okay,
you got it, Matt Taylor, and I'll come back on
Indiana Sports Talk.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Hey, I'm Brendan Kang with this network Indiana scoreboard update.
Here on Indiana's Sports Talk. A couple of college football
games in the top twenty are going down to the wire,
and one is significant for the Indiana Hoosiers. That's from
Happy Valley right now, where with twelve minutes and twenty
five seconds left in the fourth quarter, Number six Oregon
is on top of number three Penn State sixteen to three,
(10:52):
now seventeen to three after an extra point was just made.
The Indiana Hoosiers are five to oh after they're twenty
to fifteen victory over Iowa today and after next week's
by the Hoosiers will fly to Eugene to take on
the Ducks in Oregon, and the Ducks with a win
against number three Penn State, they are very likely to
crack into the top five. So we'll keep you posted
(11:14):
as that one continues to roll on in the fourth quarter. Also,
late in the third, four and a half left, number
seventeen Alabama's got the lead over number five Georgia twenty
four to twenty one. However, Bama was up big in
that game by multiple scores. At one point, Georgia scored
fourteen points in the second quarter to get it close,
and then most recently a touchdown in the third quarter
(11:35):
for the only scoring of the third in that Bama
and Georgia game. As for the Indianapolis Colls, talking with
Matt Taylor, the voice of the Colts, Daniel Jones matches
up with the Rams tomorrow. Shane Stecken talked about what
he likes most out of his QB through the first
three weeks.
Speaker 8 (11:50):
But he's seen it well. He's delivering the football with accuracy.
He's thrown with rhythm, He's thrown on time. He knows
how to throw it too as well. There's certain balls
where you got to lay, you know, sometimes firm with
an arc and there's sometimes you got to drill it,
you know, in those tight windows. And I think he's
got a good feel for that right now, and he's
playing good football.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Daniel Jones number one in the league in total QBR
at eighty five point six. I'm Brendan King.
Speaker 5 (12:17):
Welcome back, everybody.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
This is Indiana Sports Stuff, brought to you by Indiana
Donor Network. Matt Taylor, Voice of the Colts, joins us
from LA.
Speaker 5 (12:27):
All right, Matt, you.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
Heard Shane steik and talk about Daniel Jones. Why is
it that people I don't understand why New York decided
to let give up on this guy.
Speaker 7 (12:38):
Well, there's a lot of things that obviously go into that.
I mean, it's New York. It's a pressure cooker, right,
I mean, it's just a media circus every single day.
And then you know, he just he didn't play well personally.
I think he would tell you that. In fact, I
know he did say that on his way out. He
had a press conference on his way out after the
team released him. You know, wanted to have a couple
(12:59):
of final words and some thank yous and some goodbyes,
but I think he had you know, obviously had some
different coordinators around him come and go. You know, the
head coaches changed around him, and I just think too,
it's just a perfect marriage between he and Shane stik
And and the level of playmaking ability around him is
(13:23):
as far as superior all due respect, you know, what
the Colts have around him right now is better than
anything he ever had complete package wise in New York,
with a great running game of Jonathan Taylor, a really good,
above average offensive line. You know, three receivers who last
year went over eight hundred yards receiving, and then they
draft Tyler Warren who looks like a home run draft
(13:43):
pick in the first round. So he's he's just you know,
I hate to be cliche about it, but he is.
He's the point guard. He's the Mark Jackson, the Travis Best,
the Jamal Tinsley of this group. He's going to the
right place with the football, putting it on time. It's
very accurate. And again, like I said last segment, teams
(14:04):
are heating him up big time and he's making them pay.
And it's not just the completions that keep the Colts
on schedule down in distance wise, it's the big plays
down the field. It's putting the ball where guys can
get yards after the catch. I mean, you know what
Brendan just said right there, all the things that Daniel
Jones is doing well this year. He's also number two
in the NFL and yards per attempt. And that was
(14:26):
the book on him in New York was all, this
guy's a dink and dunk game manager. And you know
he's going to take take the easy throws and the
high completion throws. Yes, but he's not going to push
the ball down field. He can't complete the deep ball.
He is, you know, debunking that and proving a lot
of people wrong. And you know he's faced some really
good defenses so far this season. You know, Denver is
(14:48):
a prime example of that. And the Colts torched that
unit two weeks ago for four hundred and seventy three yards.
And they're going to see another good team coming up tomorrow,
as the Rams are the only team so far in
the NFL that ranked top five in offense and defense.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
Yeah, that's I was going to get to the point
of the matchup and why it's an intriguing one because
of that and other things. This could be a game, Matt,
and you know it better than I where.
Speaker 5 (15:18):
And it's always the case.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
I learned from Red Fought at Franklin College and theory
of football class. One of the big things about winning
is you got you can't give up big plays. But
this strikes me as a game that you could see
big plays on both sides.
Speaker 7 (15:33):
Yeah, you could, especially with the Rams. I mean, I
think they ranked third in the NFL and plays on
offense over twenty yards. So that's going to be a
big emphasis in this game. And it goes back to
what we talked about in the first segment. No Kenny
Moore tomorrow, and so that's big. But you know, if
you're not gonna have Kenny Moore, it's good to have
Kenny more lights, if you will. And that's Mike Hilton,
(15:53):
who's been maybe one of the top five best Nichols
in the last couple of years along with Kenny More
And he knows this a louisna Arumo defense like the
back of his hand because he's been in the defense
for the last four years with Cincinnati with lou So
they've already brought him off the practice squad today. I
think he's gonna play a big time role tomorrow and
(16:14):
that's big for the Colts to be able to somehow,
some way. You know, Matthew Stafford's a future Hall of
Famer and there's nothing that you know, the Colts are
going to do tomorrow that he hasn't seen. But what
they have to do, and this is a louisna Arumo staple,
is just try to confuse him at the line of scrimmage,
pri snap, you know, move guys around, you know, blitz
(16:36):
and bluff and vice versa drop out of coverage, you know,
fake like you're coming to all of those things, just
to create a little bit of a shadow of a
doubt for Matthew Stafford. That's all you're trying to do
is just gain a little bit of an edge so
that the quarterback has to hold onto the ball and
think so that split second. In the NFL a lot
of times that's all you need. And so you know,
you got playmakers on the outside with you know, Charvarius
(16:59):
war Than, You've got Xavian Howard and in the back
end you've got Cam buying them and those guys have
been playmakers so far. But that's going to be the
key tomorrow to continue to do that without Kenny Moore.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
I think the other key too, added to the list
would be the continued protection of the football. This is
a team and Daniel Jones in particular have done a
nice job of valuing the football.
Speaker 7 (17:24):
Yeah you know me, Bob, I love stats, all right.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
So the Cults are the first team I would have guessed.
Speaker 7 (17:32):
The Cults are the first team since ninety the score
over one hundred points, have no turnovers, and punt less
than five times in the first three games of the season.
It's remarkable at what they're doing. And I've said this
all week. It's not just that they're doing this over
the course of a three week stretch, it's that they're
(17:53):
doing it in the first three game stretch of the season.
That's just unheard of because you know, a lot of
times in modern NFL football, with you know, so much
change over on offense, you know, training camp just sometimes
it's not enough to kind of feel out who you
are and you know, get a rhythm and establish your identity,
(18:13):
you know. So to do that early on in the
season with a with another quarterback, with a franchise that's
been through a lot of quarterbacks lately, obviously you know
to do it with a guy that's only been here
since March, that's playing with a chip on his shoulder,
trying to change the perception of his career nationally. It's
really big time. And I just can't give enough compliments
(18:35):
to Daniel Jones on how he's handled himself on and
off the field since he was picked up in free agency,
and how well he's been able to sort of weave
his personality and put his stamp on the culture of
this team within the locker room.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
Matt Taylor, I have this image of you in a
hotel room in LA with stacks and stacks of information
and notes, were working working on your notes. Uh yeah,
you you are a stat guy. Uh. I remember for
today is doing high school basketball games. I still know
(19:14):
I'm just telling you what you you and I but
you know where this is going. Uh But but and
I and I listen. I respect it and it's reason.
One of the reasons why you are where you are
is the fact that you're meticulous in your preparation. And
I think the other part of it is in any
of any of us who know you, know how passionate
you are and how authentic and how sincere you are,
(19:36):
but still I love the fact that we're doing these
high school games and you'd email me ten pages of notes.
Speaker 7 (19:45):
Well not just not just ten pages, ten files of notes,
ten different.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
Right, And I told, I tried to tell you. So look,
you know, save your trouble. I'm just going to roll
in here and do what I do. But that's not
how you operate. So I'm sure your hotel room is
covered in papers everywhere as you get ready for tomorrow.
Speaker 7 (20:07):
I wish I could send you a picture right now
because you just didn't play by play all right, right now?
Speaker 1 (20:13):
I got the visual in my mind right.
Speaker 7 (20:16):
Now, I got I got three screens going right. I
got the TV in the hotel that's you know, playing,
I think Oregon and Penn State right now. I got
the computer up.
Speaker 5 (20:25):
I'm watching.
Speaker 7 (20:25):
I'm watching the Reds just beat the Brewers. I'm a
big Reds fan, so you know, big win tonight for
the Reds chances to make the playoffs. I got notes
going on the other screen. I got in Alabama, Georgia.
I got the other notes over here looking at the
Rams defense. I mean, where else would you rather be?
Speaker 1 (20:44):
Uh? Listen, I love La. My daughter used to live
out there for a while, so I like it. But
I know you look, I know you're gonna do well.
Speaker 5 (20:54):
I hope.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
I hope the Colts play as well as you broadcast.
That's that's my big hope. That's well.
Speaker 7 (21:01):
We're just trying to We're just trying to set the
standard and be as good as you.
Speaker 5 (21:04):
Bob.
Speaker 7 (21:04):
How about that?
Speaker 5 (21:05):
Brother?
Speaker 1 (21:06):
I love you, you know that.
Speaker 5 (21:07):
Have fun.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
I appreciate you taking time pull yourself away from all
the stats, and appreciate you joining me tonight.
Speaker 7 (21:15):
All right, my pleasure. Let's do it again next week.
Speaker 5 (21:17):
I'll look forward to it.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
Thanks Matt, Thanks very much, Matt Taylor, Colts taking. Thanks Matt.
Matt Taylor, Colt's taking on the Rams in La tomorrow
four o'clock game. No really, I'm just telling you, Brendan King,
I'm telling you. We used to do high school is
when our flagship station used to do high school football
and basketball, and I would we would do the basketball,
(21:39):
Matt and I would do the basketball games, and my
hand to god, he would he would email me reams
and reams and reams of stuff.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
I can't say the same. When we did that state
championship game.
Speaker 5 (21:53):
We just rolled in there, I understand. I appreciate all
that I really do.
Speaker 1 (21:56):
All right, we got to score it update with Brendan
King come up, and then more football about Notre Dame
on Indiana Sports Talk.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
Hey, what's going on? I'm Brendan King with this network
Indiana scoreboard update. Here on Indiana Sports Talk, we covered
the big scores across the state. Plenty tonight in Indiana
over Iowa twenty to fifteen, and Notre Dame crushing Arkansas
on the road fifty six to thirteen. Butler victorious on
their homecoming thirty one two twenty eight Dogs are three
and two as they topple Marit You. Indy is four
(22:26):
and one with a ten point victory over Truman final
of thirty to twenty. Some NAIA and Division three scores
included Saint Francis's win over Defiance thirty seven to thirty four.
Marion in an absolute shootout outlasted Indiana Wesley in fifty
two forty two. Taylor beat up on Judson sixty three seven.
It was tried by a field goal over Albion thirty
(22:48):
eight to thirty five. And boy does this set up
for a fun Mona on Bell game coming up in
the near future. Both Wabash and DePaul was shut out
victories today. Wabash blank Dennison thirty six to two nothing,
and DuPont kept Wittenberg scoreless twenty eight to nothing. As
Matt Taylor was touching on some Major League baseball towards
the ten end of his interview, the Cincinnati Reds are
(23:11):
alive as the Reds hold on to beat the Brewers
tonight seven to four. Unfortunately for the Reds, the Mets
also beat the Marlins in shutout fashion, five to nothing.
So heading into the Major League Baseball regular season finale tomorrow,
we remain a tie for the final playoff spot in
the wild Card in the National League. Both the Reds
(23:32):
and the Mets are eighty three and seventy eight. Reds
take on the Brewers at three ten. Brady Singer pitches
for Cincinnati against Milwaukee's Freddy Perolta. Mets also play at
three ten. Former Indiana State man Sean Man and I
pitching for New York Tomorrow. We may solve it.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
Welcome back, everyone, Let's talk some college football. As you
heard Brenda King mentioned University of Indianapolis, It's Truman State
thirty to twenty one with me, you Indy head coach
Chris Skievers.
Speaker 5 (24:02):
Chris, thanks so much for the call. Congratulations on a
great win today. Thank you very much. It was a
big win.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
They were picked two in our league and we had
to go there and I'm still on the bus.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
Hey, listen, I'm sure when your schedule came out and
you saw that you had to go to McKendree and
Truman back to back, you're sitting there thinking, who did
we upset in the conference office to get this schedule?
Speaker 5 (24:27):
It's traveling.
Speaker 7 (24:28):
This league is not the greatest.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
But fun to win.
Speaker 5 (24:33):
Fun to win, all right?
Speaker 1 (24:34):
How'd you do this against a really good football team?
Speaker 4 (24:38):
You know, we gave up a kickoff return for a touchdown.
It shouldn't have been that close. We had over five
hundred yards offense. We punted the bault once. Defensively, we
gave up thirteen points.
Speaker 5 (24:48):
We just gave up a.
Speaker 4 (24:49):
Kickoff return in the third quarter. That kind of swung
the momentum for a little while and then.
Speaker 5 (24:54):
So they.
Speaker 4 (24:57):
I was really proud of our guys. We played real
physical up run both sides of the ball.
Speaker 5 (25:01):
We ran the ball well.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
We had a running back from Cincinnati had Fataki. He
had one hundred and forty five yards rushing, So it
was a it was a good physical game, good physical win.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
That's been your m it hasn't it. I mean you've
controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides with this group.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
Yeah, they've they've you know, there were four and one.
We're nineteenth of the country and uh, we're playing well.
I mean it all starts with our quarterback though. I mean,
you know, we can we stop the running and we
can run the ball. But our quarterback special when you
watch him play, I mean he's he's uh, he's special.
Speaker 5 (25:38):
Hey, what kind of day did he have today?
Speaker 4 (25:41):
You know he was for him, it was, you know,
two hundred and fifty yards and he was probably I
can't I don't have the stats in front of me,
but like probably sixteen or twenty five. I mean it
was we ran the ball a lot today, so we
really thought much so kind of controlled the clock and
usually we let him throw it around a lot more.
Speaker 1 (26:01):
Yeah, but on the road it gets a really good
football team. Clock management's pretty important in a game like that.
Speaker 4 (26:07):
Yeah, it was, uh, hell, it's the reason why we won.
I mean we controlled that, we controlled the game, the
whole the whole game. So that was you know, with
with our you know, I said we had the one
kicking game issue, but you know, everything else pretty pretty good.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
It makes that breaks that long bus ride tolerable on
the way back.
Speaker 5 (26:26):
Right.
Speaker 4 (26:27):
Oh yeah, we're getting in about one o'clock.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
That glamorous life of a Division two football coach.
Speaker 5 (26:35):
Chris, no question.
Speaker 4 (26:37):
But it's fun to win.
Speaker 5 (26:39):
It is fun to win, all right.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
So you got Williams jew will come into your place
next week, is that right?
Speaker 5 (26:46):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (26:46):
And you know they we went there last last year,
you know, kind of in the middle of the season,
and they had a chance to beat us. So hopefully
our you know, I think our kids will be fired
up about this.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
Indy continues to roll along. They get a great win
on the road to Truman State thirty to twenty the
final Chris keievers great to talk to you, glad I've
got you on the bus. I really appreciate you taking
time and I wish you the best next weekend.
Speaker 4 (27:11):
Thank you so much, really appreciate it.
Speaker 5 (27:13):
You're welcome.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
Thank you. Not your dame with a win today with
me to talk about that. From Irish one one, the
one and only doctor Lynn Clark, Doctor Clark, this is
an impressive win Notre Dame fifty six thirteen over Arkansas.
Speaker 5 (27:32):
Good solid win, good one.
Speaker 1 (27:33):
I mean really, you went out and did what you
needed to do against a team that you're you're better
than they are, and they today the Irish played like it.
Speaker 6 (27:44):
Bob the great sports writer Fred Russell said, there are
two types of games peanut games at ice cream games.
When it's a close game, fans like theat peanuts. When
it's a blowout, fans can enjoy ice cream in. The
Irish put a licking today on the razorback.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
That is that is eloquent. You're sound like grantlin Rice
right now? That was well, yeah it was.
Speaker 5 (28:10):
But you know what, you're looking.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
At it and if there's good as they think they
are and people believe they are, that's the kind of
game you have to have. This is one of those
where you know, you find out it doesn't matter football basketball.
When you look at your schedule, you need to you
need to win the games you're supposed to win, and
this is in that category. This is a game you're
(28:32):
supposed to win nine times out of ten, and they
played like it today.
Speaker 6 (28:36):
Well, the Irish was six hundred and forty one total
yards of offense. They held Arkansas to three hundred and
sixty five. A big question was the Irish secondary. They
did not give up the big play, and that was
something that Notre Dame fans and coaches worried about, but
the defense hung in there. Freshman quarterback CJ. Carr with
a phenomenal game twenty two of thirty, three hundred and
fifty four yards, four touchdowns, but that was complimented by
(28:59):
the running backs between Jedari and Price and Jeremiah Loved
six touchdowns. Notre Dame did not punt. There was a
fake punt that continued to drive, but just efficiency. They
were efficient in the red zone five of five of perfect,
five of five, six of ten on third downs, So
Notre Dame one situational football, but a big confidence building win.
(29:21):
They even the record up at two and two.
Speaker 1 (29:24):
Yeah, you know what it is a confidence builder. I
mean it really is. And as we've talked about in
previous weeks, the margin for air is rather slight, if
not nonexistent, and so I don't think the rest of
us can grasp the pressure packed atmosphere that must be
like knowing that you have to win, literally have to
(29:47):
win every week to get in the playoffs.
Speaker 6 (29:49):
Yeah, the backs against the wall. Winning on the road
is tough, Winning in general is tough. But right Notre
Dame did not give up the football. They had two takeovers,
turnovers against Arkansas, stumble in an interception, but they just
played the type of football that Notre Dame fans expect.
So if they can continue this, we'll see what happens.
Speaker 5 (30:10):
We'll see what happens.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
Well, give me some of the bright spots, some of
the guys who made you take notice of what they
did today.
Speaker 6 (30:18):
Well, you just have to look at that stable of
running backs, Jedai and Price and Jeremiah Love Love with
four touchdowns. He did it with his legs, he did
it with his hands. Jedarian Price a rushing touchdown. He
also had a receiving touchdown.
Speaker 5 (30:34):
But CJ.
Speaker 6 (30:34):
Carr really looked comfortable out there. He distributed to seven
different receivers. It was great to see Jayden Greathhouse be
targeted a few times, but Jordan Faison continues to be
a favorite of his. He led all receivers today. But
it was totally a team effort and I know that
was something that Marcus Freeman really wanted us to have
everybody to buy in. It's not about individuals, it's about
(30:57):
a team performance, and they will celebrate this. More been
getting right back to work. Is They've got Boise State,
another first time opponent, coming into South Bend next Saturday.
Speaker 1 (31:07):
You see, I think that's an intriguing matchup. They've never
been there, as you point out, and it's kind of
a fun, kind of a fun new opponent. Applaud the
Irish for doing it. But the key obviously got to
continue to make progress.
Speaker 5 (31:22):
And this isn't that again in that category of.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
A game you should win, uh, And it's one in
which you have to take care of business because I mean,
looking at this schedule, you got boise and then North
Carolina State, Southern California at Boston College, Navy, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Stanford.
You know, I know fans can look at it and say, yeah,
(31:46):
it's possible to run the table.
Speaker 5 (31:48):
He really is.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
But you know, in that situation where just focus on
the next opponent like Boise State, and you have.
Speaker 6 (31:56):
To remember what's happened in the past, Cincinnati Marshall or
the Illinois yet come in and clean Notre Dame clock,
and that's something that they're going to remember. There cannot
be any letdowns. So a big win some team to
build upon, but they need to continue to get better.
But one piece of I don't want to say criticism,
but some of the fans pointed out is that really
(32:16):
Notre Dame has no deception on offense. They just throw
the ball back to Judarian Price and here on my love,
and they're able to make plays. But good teams will
figure out ways to shut that down. So as CJ.
Carr gets more experience, let's see if they can start
doing some deception to kind of assist the running backs.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
Yeah. Well, you know what it's like. You have plenty
of cliched responses. If it's not broken, don't fix it.
There's one that one comes to mind. Number two's you
got play to your strengths, which all makes sense. But
I fully understand, doctor Clark. You made my weekend. I
(32:57):
had a great chance to catch up on Notre Dame today.
Notre Dame fifty six thirteen winners over Arkansas hosting Boise
State next week. Lynn, thanks for the call, have a
fantastic weekend. Thanks mob, Thank you coming up school board
update with somebody you all know and love, Brendan King,
(33:21):
coming up, and we have more football to talk about,
talking some high school football in the next hour.
Speaker 5 (33:27):
This is Indiana Sports Talk.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
I'm Brendan King with this network Indiana Scoreboard update here
on Indiana Sports Talk. And as we have told you
within the last hour, couple of high profile Top twenty
college football matchups are coming down to the wire as
we speak, including two minute time out from Happy Valley
fourth quarter, number six Oregon on top of number three
Penn State seventeen to ten. The Nittany Lyons with the
(33:53):
football in Oregon territory, by the way, and that game
is significant considering the fact that after next week's by
for the Indiana Hoosiers, who we're victorious today over Iowa
twenty to fifteen, Indiana will play their most important game
yet this year at Oregon in Eugene on October eleventh.
Hoosiers are five and oho Oregon trying to match the
(34:15):
same mark. They would be five and oh with a
two and oh mark in the Big Ten if they
hold on to beat Penn State. But that's number six
Oregon and number three Penn State. The Nitney Lions trying
to go down and score and tie the game with
under two to go. Also fourth quarter getting late eight
minutes ten seconds left. Number seventeen Alabama twenty four, Number
five Georgia twenty one. The Bulldogs have the football. Alabama
(34:38):
led by multiple scores in the first half, but Georgia
has since scored twenty one unanswered points to get back
in that ballgame. So we'll keep you posted as that
one gets towards the final marker. As we told your
last update, with the Mets and the Reds both with
identical records heading into the final day of the season
eighty three and seventy eight. They're tied for the final
(34:59):
wild cards spot in the National League, but determined today
thanks to the Cubs beating the Cardinals seven to three
Pete Kronstrong's thirty first home run, Gobs clinch home field
advantage for their n O wild Card series best of three,
all three games played at Wrigley Field, starting Tuesday against
San Diego.
Speaker 5 (35:16):
Welcome back, everybody.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
This is Indiana Sports Talk, brought to you by Indiana Donornet.
We're coming up in the next hour. Paul Condrey will
join me. As we look back last night's week number
six and high school football. Some great matchups two number
ones got beat, so plenty to talk about, some tremendous
individual performances as we make our way to the Pairing
(35:41):
Show on the twelfth of October right around the corner.
That's going to be exciting. And we'll also talk more
college football.
Speaker 5 (35:51):
All right, Brendan King, let's.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
Talk talk about let's just change gears for a second.
You bet we have fever tomorrow. We lost last night,
play again tomorrow. Talk about must win. They've put up
so much fight and have been unbelievably resilient. You just
hope they still have it in them, still have enough
(36:15):
to be able to pull off what I think would
be an upset if they're able to continue.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
Yeah, I mean, as you said, it's not just must win,
it's can't lose, it's facing elimination, it's all those things, yeah,
wrapped into one in this five game series. In the
WNBA semi final against Las Vegas. And as you said,
you were on the air last night for that eighty
four to seventy two final when it didn't include and
you know, tough loss, right, But I mean think Pat
Boylan mentioned it well you take into account the injuries
(36:41):
and what the Fever have faced. But also I thought
he made a good point about just how uplifting it's
been to watch that group, even in times of circumstance,
when you've been without arguably your two best players, you've
been able to stick together and you've been able to
go on this run, which I think, Hey, listen, being
part of the final four. I understand that nobody's gonna
be happy about losing if it doesn't go your way tomorrow,
(37:03):
But being part of the final four, when you have
faced those types of injuries and those types of circumstances,
that's pretty amazing. But hey, right, your back's against the
wall tomorrow, you're at home. You get a chance to
take that series back to Vegas. Sure, but hey, that's
why you play. You play to win the game, right,
and you got to see how it goes tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (37:20):
Correct, And you haven't been in the playoffs for what
nine years?
Speaker 5 (37:24):
Yeah? Pretty amazing?
Speaker 1 (37:25):
It was, Yeah, absolutely all right, tell me about Iu.
I was I was watching part of that game. This
was listen, This was a hard fought win. I would
play them as hard as you can be played.
Speaker 2 (37:40):
Yeah, I don't think you go to Iowa City and
walk out without any bruises, right.
Speaker 1 (37:44):
I think that's a game where you're.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
Gonna play some hardcore, really physical football. That's how it's
always been with Farns as their head coach, and for
as long as he is there, that's gonna be the
mantra of that ball club. I will say for Indiana
that twenty to fifteen win. I've been talking about this
in the last few updates. Penn State just tied Oregon
at seventeen all from Happy Valley. So after next week's
(38:07):
by Indiana is gonna play Oregon. So we'll see what
kind of momentum or you know, for like, you know,
if momentum or not if Oregon takes that into the
next game, because you could be seeing overtime there in
Happy Valley in the next few minutes as Penn State
just scored to make it seventeen all. That's a massive
game for Indiana coming up here in a couple weeks.
(38:28):
And don't forget Indiana's schedule. It's unforgiving coming up here soon,
because you got that October eleventh game in Eugene and
then to move up about a month, it'll be November eighth, coach,
I believe is the date. Let me check that right here,
November eighth, it is Penn State will be hosting Indiana.
So you've got some massive road games coming up here
(38:50):
for Kurt Signetti and the Hoosiers within the next month's time.
So you just got to take care of business each week.
Speaker 1 (38:56):
Is it me or does it seem like this has been,
you know, a truly exceptional fall of college football.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
It's been amazing. It's been amazing, right. I mean, you've
got Indiana with this storyline in this state, Notre Dame
trying to repeat the same movie as we last year. Right,
even Purdue has played better. And I think when you're
at this point, whether it's football or basketball, when you're
at this point and every team we're talking about here
(39:25):
is competitive Indiana, Notre Dame, Purdue, you had basketball season,
you had Butler in Indiana State, it's just fun to
be around sports in this state when every single one
of those teams are making some sort of noise.
Speaker 5 (39:37):
He's Brendan King.
Speaker 1 (39:38):
He's gonna come up with a school board updates the
top of the hour, another one going to make sure
make sure you're around for that. We're gonna take a
short break and come back and talk more football. This
is Network Indiana's Indiana Sportstock. Welcome back everyone, This is
Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk. Glad you could join us
(39:59):
on a very Saturday night. Thank you for listening to
last night's show. Week number six of high school football
went well. We had two number ones go down last night.
Also creeping toward we're not creeping. We're sprinting toward October
(40:19):
the twelfth for the Pairing show, so we'll have more
to talk about on that next week. But the always
important pairing shows. It doesn't matter what sport you're in,
we all get excited about finding out who we're going
to be playing. So that's going to be on the
twelfth of October. And last night was just another one
(40:41):
of those great nights. We've been unbelievably blessed with weather
in this football season. It's been for the most part, uneventful,
so to speak, and so it's great and schools were
able to get bigger crowds, generate more revenue, much needed
revenue for their programs, and we hope that's great and
(41:02):
we're appreciative as we have been for thirty one years
of you going to those games and then when it's over,
getting in your car and turning its own. And that's great,
it's wonderful and we appreciate you doing that. And it's
not been an easy thing. All right, Brendan King, thirty
one years we've done this show.
Speaker 5 (41:22):
How about that, guys?
Speaker 2 (41:24):
Pretty cool?
Speaker 1 (41:25):
Huh? Pretty cool.
Speaker 5 (41:27):
I remember when we started.
Speaker 1 (41:29):
We the people would literally call me and tell me,
you know, I love your show. I can't wait to
get in my car and turn on the radio and
listen listen to your listen to the scores.
Speaker 5 (41:42):
So I always remember what's in your DNA there.
Speaker 1 (41:45):
Okay as a school board anchor, but it was it
was also humorous, they would say, and they say, oh,
I love Friday nights because we can, you know, go
to the game and listen to you and listen to
the scores.
Speaker 5 (41:57):
On the way home after the games.
Speaker 1 (41:59):
And I said, you do us on Saturday And it was, oh,
I didn't know you were on Saturday night. And so
we have a little self promotion issue, which we've had,
it seems like for the entire time.
Speaker 5 (42:11):
So it's we're working on it.
Speaker 1 (42:13):
I think I think we're getting better and better all right,
Colts tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (42:18):
Tell me what you think.
Speaker 1 (42:19):
I think this is, this is this should be a
great game to our afternoon.
Speaker 2 (42:23):
Should be a great game. But definitely, as Matt Taylor
was talking about, you get the sense that things might
look a little shaky in the secondary without Kenny Moore,
especially when you take a look the fact of how
Matthew Stafford is connected with Devontae Adams. I think that's
been a super underrated signing in the NFL this year.
The way that Adams has played, It's kind of been
almost a resurgence for Adams, who signed with the Jets
(42:44):
last year and was kind of in purgatory almost because
that Jets team is so bad. But Adams says, come
out this year and played very well with Stafford and
obviously Matthew Stafford, he's got some great weapons, Puka Nakua
even you know, you add the fact of Devonte Adams,
but you know it's a great running back room led
by Kyron Williams of former Notre Dame man. So I
think there is a difference here. Yeah, the culture three
(43:06):
and oh, and they should celebrate that and people should
have some significance and take into account that the culture
three and oh, however, this is not to the level
of the first three teams you have faced so far.
This is definitely an uptick and plus it's on the
West coast. Won't be easy. We'll see if they can
take advantage.
Speaker 1 (43:22):
He's Brendan King, and he's going to take a brief
break and come back and give you a five minute
school board update. This is Network Indiana's Indiana's Sports Talk
