Speaker 1 (04:45):
Back, everybody. I'm Bob Lovel. This is Network Indiana's Indiana
Sports Tuck All right, Landon, Coons talk to me. Thrilling
was that IU finish coach.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
I was on the edge of my seat. That was
a barn burner from the Happy Valley. I have never
been so emotionally invested in IU game until now. And
I know this IU teams the real deal. You know,
Fernando Mendoza or Heights Mendoza, as Gus Johnson's calling him.
I mean, you've been following along with this this game,

(05:17):
and you know, we all know the downfall of Penn
State and that they lost James Franklin mid season, and
you're kind of thinking, Okay, the Hoosiers are gonna do
what the Hoosiers do best along with coach Signetti, and
they're gonna go in and they're gonna beat the snot
out of out of this team again. But no, Penn
State put up an incredible fight, took the lead there
in the dying minutes there, twenty four to twenty, and

(05:37):
then you know, you got that incredible tippy toe touchdown
there from Omar Cooper and then that just changed the
perplection of the game. I mean, yes, it was the
final minute of the game, but like Penn State just
couldn't really do anything. I know, r Own Brendan King
was there at that game. He said that game was
pretty pretty fantastic from his perspective, but just an incredible
day all around for India Sports.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
I would agree with that. All right, tell me what's
going on with the hold on a second? Just I
was going to ask you about the colts and all
of that, but let's do this. Let's talk to Jake Gilbert,
football coach at Walbash College, Wabash with another win, great

(06:21):
win on this afternoon for the little Giants. Coach Gilbert,
thank you so much for the call. Congratulations on another
big win. This went over Oberlin this afternoon. Thanks for
the call.

Speaker 9 (06:35):
Yeah, I appreciate it. So we've moved to eight and
one good win today, setting up a showdown between two
eight and one teams for the mornin bell.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
Weon't get to the bell. We could talk an hour
about that, but talk to me about this win today.
I mean you guys, listen, as you pointed out, you
inherit a great team. You're a wallmash, a lum you
love being in You're a little giant at heart. The
opportunity to do something like this after a successful, a

(07:12):
very successful high school career, you got to be on
cloud nine right now.

Speaker 9 (07:18):
Well I got him as pretty gratifying TMO program get
to win last night. Yeah, there was a lot of fun.
Watched Westfield win the sectional for about the about the
eighth time and nine years or tenth time in twelve
years or something like that, and so you know that

(07:41):
program had had one winning season twenty five years when
we came, and now they're just doing such a great job.
Josh Miracle and that staff. They are extraordinary because Karmelo
had put it to him early in the year, like
twenty four points. Yeah, So I was a static for
the Westfield folks. Obviously I got a son on that team,

(08:01):
so I've got a little bias and rooting interested, so
Cloud nine about that. And then today for us to
go get a win and had a son throw three
touchdown passes, So that was pretty good weekend for our
little klan.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
So pretty good weekend for sure. Well let's hear it
for Jackson Gilbert. I mean took over in a second
quarter and he had one of those days, did he not?
He did?

Speaker 9 (08:32):
Yeah, he was eight for nine good deep ball, accuracy,
random ball a little bit, but mainly completed some passes.
We got a wealth of receivers and so we were
able to play four quarterbacks today as happy about that,
and a bunch of young receivers to get those guys
a chance. Eli Thompson caught two touchdown passes today, So

(08:54):
happy for the freshman. That was good. And you know,
we have a senior who's really a good player, who
Canon Chase, who has been hurt and so he was
able to come back today and catch a touchdown and
knock him rust off. So that was good' Just happy
for our group overall, So pretty excited for how we

(09:17):
represented ourselves. The you know, the first two deafens has
played really well and we give us some points. They're
kind of late, but that's okay. So pretty pleased with
how the first first two units looked on both sides
of the ball.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
All Right, Bell Game this week is a You went
through it as a player, so now you're going through
it as a coach. It's an incredible week, is it not,
Jake building up to the moon on Bell Game on Saturday.

Speaker 9 (09:46):
Yeah, it's kind of hard to keep it only to
a week. You know, you start thinking about it earlier
than that, and you know, you see each other on
film and everything, and so you know, you try to
keep a focused down to a week, but that's pretty tough.
So you get reminded about this rivalry pretty much every

(10:09):
day when you work at Walbast College. So this just
happens to be the week we actually play the.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
Game, all Right, I need you to hang on through
the school board update. Can you do that? Sure? Camp, perfect,
Jay Gilbert, and I'll come back and talk about the
moon on Bell game next Saturday. This is Indiana's Sports Talk.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
It is halftime for the Indiana Pacers. They trail the
Denver Nuggets fifty six to forty seven at the half.
Aaron Nesmith the leading scorer for the Pacers with fifteen,
Andrew Nemhart with eleven, Jars Walker with eight, Isaiah Jackson
and Pascal Siakam both with three for the starters.

Speaker 8 (10:53):
Up in South Bend.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
The snow is continuing to fall as the Fighting Irish
lead the Navy Midshipman forty nine to ten with just
under ten minutes ago left in this game, and then
we all heard about it today the number two ranked
team in the nation, the Indiana Hoosiers, getting a massive
twenty seven to twenty four win over the Penn State
Nitney Lyons. Here's Gus Johnson's call on the Fox broadcast.

Speaker 6 (11:31):
Juve.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
In terms of Fernando Mendoza, he went nineteen for thirty
on the day, one touchdown, one interception, that incredible catch
though from Omar Cooper. The Tippy toe touchdown and the
dying seconds of that game. Again, IU wins twenty seven
to twenty four.

Speaker 8 (11:50):
Other scorers.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
We just heard from Wildbash's head coach, Wilbash getting the
win of forty two to thirteen over Oberlin, the number
one team in the state. The Ohio State Buckeye is
getting a thirty four to ten win over Purdue Marion
shuts out Judson sixty two to nothing. We also have
the Indiana State losing to Illinois State fifty two to twenty.
My alma mater, you Andy Greyhounds getting a massive sixty

(12:13):
six to twenty one win over Southwest Baptist and well
how much more as a night goes on?

Speaker 1 (12:20):
Welcome back everyone. We resume our conversation with Jay Gilbert,
the football coach at Wabash College. Today they beat Oberlin
forty two thirteen. Now ready to take on to Paul
and the Monan Bell game next Saturday. How many years
is this now coming up on Saturday? Coach? One hundred

(12:43):
thirty one, one hundred and thirty one, And what's the uh,
what's the spread? What's the what are the results? It's
pre even, isn't it? Well?

Speaker 9 (12:53):
I know there's been nine ties. I know that Walbash
is one more than the Paul. That's about all I
care about.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
Well well done. I mean, people talk about rivalries all
they want to, But in my mind, what makes this
such a great rivalry is the fact that after that
long a time, one hundred plus years, they're there, are
only separated by a handful of wins and losses. It's

(13:24):
it's as closely contested as you could be over the
course of time. And and it's it's the geography is involved. Two,
you're not very far away. And if you go to
Walbash or to Paul, the first thing they talked to
you about. I'm sure when you were being recruited, the
first thing you talked about was the Monon Bell game.
Coach he's still there.

Speaker 8 (13:48):
I believe we may have lost them.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
We may have lost coach Gilbert. Sounds like we did.
But again, next Saturday, you got the Monon Bell game.
As we try to reconnect with Coach Gilbert, let's turn
our attention to to Paul. Football to Paul this afternoon
with a big win, they beat Worcester fifty nine to nothing.

(14:14):
From the ISC Sports Network, Rick Johnson joins me, I
had the pleasure of working with Rick earlier in the
week on the IU in the game with l Iu, Rick,
how are you thanks to the call and what an
impressive win for De Paul today? Hello Rick, Rick? All right,

(14:38):
so sounds like we have an issue with our phones
right now, so we'll come back talk a little bit.
Landon Kons. I know you're there. Help me update me
with the Pacers if you will, please.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Yeah, Coach absolutely with the Pacers right now. They're down
at halftime against the Denver Nuggets fifty six to forty seven.
Aaron Nesmith is the leading scorer for the Pacers right
now with fifteen, Andrew Nemhard with eleven, Jarris Walker with eight.
We got Isaiah Jackson, Pascal Siakam and Ben Shephard with three,

(15:18):
Tony Bridley and Jeremiah Robinson Earl each with two.

Speaker 1 (15:23):
Man, they're still just as beat up as a group
can be, aren't they.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
I mean, man, they are. This team is plagued with
injuries right now. I mean, obviously we know ty Reees
is not playing for the year. No Obi Topping, no
TJ McConnell. It's just it's it's it's not a good
sight to see for a Pacers fan and for this
Pacers team, considering that they made the finals last year,

(15:48):
but it's it's basically a rebuild year at this point.

Speaker 1 (15:52):
All right, Is there any what's the possibility of getting
people back? I mean, what's the what's it look like
in terms of when some of these guys will make
their return?

Speaker 2 (16:04):
You know, I've heard TJ McConnell could be back here
within the next month or so. I would hope the
same for Obi Topping in that aspect. But it's just
it's just a mad mess right now. And then plus
you also have Johnny Furfey who's out too, and we've
been seeing him. We've seen him get in some minutes
two here for some games. But it's it's just a

(16:26):
bad time. And there's no really, no really big certain
timetable for any of these yet.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
And that's not good. All right, Help me understand what
time I need to get it now? Remember I get
off the air at midnight, and remember I'm in my
seventies and so I you know, I need sleep. So
what am I gonna have to do to watch the
Colts tomorrow?

Speaker 2 (16:46):
Colts, You're gonna have to get up at nine thirty
am to watch kickoff. I believe you can watch that
on the NFL Network. To my knowledge, you can also
listen to it on our five SIP station of ninety
three five and one oh seven five the Fan. But
the Colts seven and two on the year, you know,
they're trying to bounce back after a not very pretty

(17:07):
loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers by any means, and then
you're going up against Michael Pennix Junior and the Atlanta Falcons, who,
to my understanding is the Falcons. I haven't watched a
lot of Falcons football this year by any means, but
I know they're kind of sub part of the records.
They're three and five over on the year. They're they're
good when they want to be and they're not good

(17:28):
when they want to be.

Speaker 8 (17:29):
So it's gonna be I think.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
I think the Colts definitely get a bounce back day
for tomorrow, but it will definitely be an interesting game.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
It'll be interesting. Jet lag is real, so I'm not sure.
I'm sure they've the Colts like everyone else, they have
plenty of people on staff who are trained in these
kinds of situations on what to eat, how much to sleep,
how much the extras. If you they break it down,
it's pretty it's pretty interesting in how they handle something

(18:00):
like that. And but they're playing well, and it would
scare me about an Atlanta team again that's not playing well.
You could look at it from the standpoint they're not
playing well for a reason, primarily because they're not that good.
She could also look from look at it from a
standpoint as they're you know, they're looking to win. These

(18:21):
guys are professionals, and so they're they're you know, auditioning
all the time quite frankly to save their their positions.
And so we'll see that. And so it's just one
of those situations right now where you just go out
there and take care of business and see what happens. Uh.

(18:43):
And so who do they play after their trip? Do
they have the buy? Do they get a week off
coming back?

Speaker 2 (18:49):
So I believe they have one more game coming up,
and I believe and that one will be another tall
task for the Colts. After this, they have the Kansas
City and I'm sorry, the bye week is after the Falcons.
So after the off, the bye week, and then after
that you have at them at Kansas City, take on
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. Then you have at Lucas

(19:11):
Oil Stadium against the Texans, and you got two back
to back road games against the Jaguars and the Seattle Seahawks,
and the Seahawks are slinging it right now with sam
Donold and Jackson Smith and Jigba.

Speaker 8 (19:22):
And then you got two back to back.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
Home games again the Monday night game against the San
Francisco forty nine Ers and the Jacksonville Jaguars. And then
to wrap it up, you got that away game down
in Houston, Texas.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
That's a challenging schedule.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
God, Franklin, it is, especially in that last little bit,
it gets pretty challenging.

Speaker 1 (19:42):
Yeah, that's a challenge in terms of, you know, being
on the road and those kinds of things. And Kansas
City is still good, but they're they're not as dominant,
I think because everybody has seen in the past three
or four years. But they're still Kansas City. And it'll
get interesting, all right, nine thirty start on the nf

(20:04):
NFL network. I just listen to Matt. That's more fun anyway,
just listen to him. That's going to be a challenge
for me to catch the opening kickoff because I'm not
a you know, you know, two nights in a row
going to midnight. I'm starting to show my age and

(20:26):
it's catching up with me in terms of sleep. And
that was, uh, that stuff. So we'll try again nine
thirty start Atlanta and the and the Colts big win.
This would be a big win for them. Uh and
it's it's a game. I think it'll be. It'll be fun,
fun for them, a great experience for everybody involved. Great

(20:49):
way to get some great national publicity for our franchise
and have some fun. So watch that and have some fun.
What else is going on? So we've got still got
to pay us. They playing tonight? When do they play again?

Speaker 2 (21:04):
Pacers will be back in action tomorrow night again on
the road. They'll be taking on Steph Curry and the
Golden State Myers. That is an eight o'clock tip.

Speaker 1 (21:12):
Off, outstanding. When do they back home? Whin can fans
get excited about going to washing when they get home?

Speaker 8 (21:18):
Let me look at the schedule real quick. I do.

Speaker 2 (21:22):
I know it's fairly certain here because after the Warriors,
I believe they have two more road games to So yeah,
they have two more road games against the Utah Jazz
and the Phoenix Suns. They're back home on Saturday, November fifteenth,
so a week from tonight against the Toronto Raptors.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
He's the man Landon Cuz coming up with a school
board update. Soon when we come back, we'll try to
solve our phone problems and see if we can talk
some ball. This is Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Stock.

Speaker 2 (21:54):
Landa Coon's here with you on this network Indiana Sports
Talk scoreboard update. Devin Nuggets leading the Indiana Pacers to
start this third quarter. Nuggets up by ten sixty two
or now down to eight sixty two to fifty four.
Aeron Smith leading score for the Pacers with seventeen. The
snow continues to fall harder and harder with just two

(22:15):
minutes remaining. Here Up in South Bend, Notre Dame getting
getting leading a forty nine to ten over Navy Notre Dame,
the tenth ranked team in the nation. Like we've all
talked about, the Indiana Hoosiers twenty seven to twenty four
over Penn State. Massive touchdown there at the end from
Omar Cooper. Here's Don Fisher on the AU Radio Network.

Speaker 3 (22:36):
Two more chances here forty one seconds to.

Speaker 10 (22:39):
GODJ and Omar both bar side Becker near side, Mendoza
in the backfield back to throw, pressure comes again, throws
it to the ends of head of touches made.

Speaker 6 (22:50):
Is that a touchdown? Touchdown? Dlievable?

Speaker 7 (22:55):
Old too purple, the brown hen he put his foot down.

Speaker 5 (23:00):
It's a score.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
Indiana back in action next weekend, taking on Big ten
rival the Wisconsin Badgers. Indianagois Colts back in action tomorrow
morning in Berlin to take on the Atlanta Falcons. Biggest
news of the week Sauce Gardner. It's the debut of
the former cornerback for the New York Jets. Colts gave
up two first round draft picks for him, along with
wide receiver ad Mitchell. You will not see the Forest

(23:24):
Buckner in action. He's out on ir with a neck
injury and he did not travel to Germany. He'll miss
the next four games. Samson ebucom will be out as well,
along with Taekwon Lewis with a knee and a groin injury. Perspectively,
for Network India Sports Amlanda Coons, Welcome back to Network
Indiana Sports Talk Landa. Kun's here with your having technical

(23:47):
difficulties here on our end, but we do have coach
Jake Gilbert of Wabash on the line with us. Coach,
let's talk about this here as we wait for coach
Bob over the regoin here. Wabash getting a massive forty
two to thirteen win over Oberlin. How does the game
go for you guys?

Speaker 9 (24:07):
Pretty good? You know, doubt, a pretty fast start on defense,
got two takeaways early gauge goalie interception, and he's had
a tremendous year. Gavin Rupert arguably definitely one of our
best players, not our best player overall. I got an interception,
his first for the season. So those guys got us

(24:30):
on the right start and then kind of got the
offense rolling and went into the halftime with the comfortable
twenty we eat. It came out in the second half
picked up right where we left off.

Speaker 2 (24:42):
Once again, we're talking to head coach Jake Gilbert of
the Wabash Little Giants. Now, Coach Wabash is in my backyard.
I am from the Crawfordsville Ladoga area myself. And then
looking into next week, you got that matchup that al
Montgomery County fans love. You got the one hundred and
thirty first mon on Belt Classic against Paul. It will
be in profile at Wabash. What's one thing that you're

(25:05):
really looking forward to for this game next week?

Speaker 9 (25:09):
Well, you know, this will be my first opportunity to
coach in this game as the head coach, so you know,
I'm fortunate enough to have played in it and then
coached in it as an assistant. So really, I just
can't wait for the competition of it all. I'm so
happy with the progress our team's made and the culture,
and I just want our guys to be able to

(25:29):
go out and put it to the tests, you know,
to Paul's the next football team. They've done a tremendous job.
A lot of respect for them. They're a great team
and we're ready for the challenge to see if we
are as well.

Speaker 2 (25:42):
Now you kind of mentioned with that Depau team, they're
eight and one as well. Just like you guys here,
is there is there any extra pressure knowing that this
is very much a clash of the Titans type of battle.

Speaker 9 (25:54):
Well, it's kind of a winner take all, so whoever
wins is probably gonna make the playoffs and whoever loses
is probably done.

Speaker 6 (26:00):
So the bell, you know, is all you need.

Speaker 9 (26:06):
From a pressure standpoint, and when you haven't won it.
We haven't won it three years, so there's plenty of
pressure to get that done. But mainly I love for
our campus and our players. I just want them to
experience having it and winning it. So the pressure is internal,
you know.

Speaker 1 (26:27):
I think.

Speaker 9 (26:29):
The outside noise doesn't affect me as much. I hope
it's not affecting our players, but I just definitely want
them to experience what it's like to win it.

Speaker 8 (26:38):
Couldn't agree more coach, and I do believe we have
coach level back.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
Coach, you got us, Coach Gilbert, I'm glad we're back.
I heard that conversation and I fully agree with you.
So we expect to sold out arena right sold out.
If you don't have to take us down, you're out
of luck. Yeah, what's the happening sold out a long
time ago?

Speaker 9 (26:58):
Yeah, I think they may have a you that.

Speaker 1 (27:01):
Have kind of resurfaced.

Speaker 9 (27:02):
Sometimes that happens for a luck if you. But there
can't be too many. The tail getting sold out in
three hours, so they opened up another lot and tickets
sold out in about a week, a little over a week,
maybe so, But I do think some tickets got kicked back,
so it's possible that we could have some tickets, but

(27:25):
not many.

Speaker 1 (27:27):
Well, I wish you the best. I'm gonna I hope

Speaker 1 (27:52):
Thanks a lot. Jay Gilbert, head football coach at Walbash.
Big win over Oberlin today, taking on the DePaul Tigers
next week for the Monon Bell game. I had a
chance earlier in my career to work that game on
TV and it was it's heart. It's insane, to be honest,

(28:13):
it's hard to describe, hard to describe Landon Kun's well
done way to step in. We're we We have the
Grimlins in the building right.

Speaker 8 (28:23):
Now, Yes we do, and they are not playing kind.
They do not want this show to go on, man.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
Now, No, you know, you know it's one of those things.
I'm hosting a call in show. Guests have to call
into our studio, and when your telephone system won't allow
you to take incoming calls, it becomes a little bit
of a challenge. And uh so you know, we're trying
to apologize for the for the difficulties for all of

(28:51):
you who are listening, and we appreciate it. But bear
with us. We're gonna we're gonna somehow some way ride
this out. Uh it's just a situation where right now
we're gonna have to readjust how we do it. So
stay with us now, land And what's the update on
the on the Pacers? Tell me they're winning?

Speaker 2 (29:10):
Well, they've closed the gap. The Pacers are down sixty
six to sixty one with eight thirty two remaining in
this third quarter?

Speaker 1 (29:19):
Got it? Okay, So I guess that's good news. And
still we have the Colts taking on of the Atlanta
Falcons tomorrow morning. So, Landing, can you Q can you
queue Don Fisher Don Fisher's call on the game winner?

(29:42):
Can you reque that?

Speaker 8 (29:43):
Yes, sir?

Speaker 1 (29:43):
Those you haven't, yeah, if those of you haven't it
didn't get a chance to watch the IU game. Here
is the final play, well not final play, but here's
the game winner.

Speaker 3 (29:53):
Two more chances here forty one seconds to go, dj
and Omar buff bire side Becker near.

Speaker 4 (29:59):
Side, Mendoza in the backfield, back to throw.

Speaker 8 (30:04):
Pressure comes again, throws.

Speaker 6 (30:05):
It to the edge of head.

Speaker 5 (30:06):
Touch his baby. Is it a touchdown?

Speaker 6 (30:08):
Touchdown?

Speaker 7 (30:10):
Undelievable hold or too pepple? Had he put his foot down?

Speaker 5 (30:17):
It's a store for the ed.

Speaker 1 (30:20):
That's the legendary Hall of Famer dun Fisher on the call.
Now can you que Gus Johnson's television call?

Speaker 2 (30:27):
Oh my goodness, of course, coach, this is one of
the greatest things ever. I'm ready whenever you are.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
These are both legendary. Go ahead, this is Gus Johnson
on Fox.

Speaker 6 (30:36):
Mendoza duke it out.

Speaker 8 (30:53):
I love that he is so fibergasted that that happened there.

Speaker 1 (30:57):
There couldn't even talk.

Speaker 8 (30:59):
You can talk.

Speaker 1 (31:00):
No, he was having trouble making the call for HIV
and sake, Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (31:04):
And like he's not a like I don't even know
if he's a fan of this IU team or not.
And you gotta tried your you gotta try to hide
your neutrality here. But how could you not be a
fan of that play? But that was just that was
one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

Speaker 1 (31:19):
That was tremendous. That's absolutely tremendous. Okay, we want to
remind everyone. We're obviously happy about the win. Disappointed Purdue
didn't win this afternoon. I you playing basketball tomorrow at Marquette.
What time's that game start?

Speaker 8 (31:39):
I have it on my sheet here.

Speaker 2 (31:42):
They take on Marquette at one o'clock and you can
catch that game. You can watch it on ESPN.

Speaker 1 (31:47):
Catch the Colts, then watch the Hoosiers. There it is.
It's gonna be. Isn't the weather gonna be miserable anyway? Tomorrow?

Speaker 8 (31:54):
I believe so, Coach.

Speaker 2 (31:55):
The Notre Dame just wrapped up, and that snow is
making its way down south here. So and I got
an hour today win. Oh yeah, Miller Dame gets a
massive win over Navy. Final score forty nine to ten.

Speaker 1 (32:08):
Forty nine ten, Okay, good for them. But h so,
the snow is rolling in. That's the that's the key.

Speaker 2 (32:18):
The snow is rallying in, coach, and I got an
hour drive home after this, so that's gonna be. That's
gonna be a fun ride home for me.

Speaker 1 (32:25):
I always try to remind people and I've done it
more than once. Is always have a pillow and blankets
and sleep in the studio.

Speaker 8 (32:38):
That is very true.

Speaker 1 (32:38):
Trust me that. Trust me, I've done that more than once.
Uh you know the prospect of driving from the circle
back to Franklin, Well nice like that. No, even when
I was younger. All right, score for update, coming up
with Landing Coons, and then we're gonna try to figure
out who we can talk to. I'd love to tell

(32:59):
you who it is, but we'll be back on Indiana
Sports Stock.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
The Pacers are losing their grip against the Denver Nuggets.
Nuggets leave the Pacers eighty one to sixty nine, five
point fifty three remaining in the third quarter. Leading scores
right now for the Pacers Aaron Nesmith and Andrew Nemhard,
both with twenty points. Final from South Bend. As the
snow falls, Notre Dame gets a forty nine to ten

(33:25):
win over Navy CJ. Carr going thirteen to sixteen on
the day, three touchdowns, three touchdowns, Jeremiah Love thirteen carries
two touchdowns for ninety four yards.

Speaker 8 (33:36):
And then we've all heard it.

Speaker 2 (33:37):
We've been playing all throughout the show tonight, Indiana Hoosier
is getting a massive twenty seven to twenty four win
over the Penn State Nitney Lyons. Here's here is Don
Fisher on the call for the AYU Radio network.

Speaker 3 (33:49):
Two more chances here forty one seconds to.

Speaker 4 (33:52):
Go, DJ and Obar both bar side Becker near side.
Mendoza in the backfield back to a pressure comes again,
throws it to.

Speaker 5 (34:02):
The edge of head. Touches Babe, because that a touchdown.

Speaker 7 (34:05):
Touch undlievable, old, too perple the hen he put his
foot down.

Speaker 2 (34:13):
It's a store Forridana Fernando Mendoza. End of the day,
nineteen of thirty one touchdown, one interception. Other scorers. We
just talked to head coach Jake Gilbert a little bit ago.
Wabash getting a forty two to thirteen win over Oberlin.
San Diego gets a forty three to twenty seven over Valparaiso.
Purdue loses to the number one team in the nation
of the ohiost Buckeyes thirty four to ten. Marian gets

(34:35):
a sixty two to nothing win over Judson. Illinois State
gets a fifty two to twenty win over Indiana State.
DePaul fifty nine to zero over Wooster and my alma mater,
the Undie Greyhound is getting a sixty six to twenty
one win over Southwest Baptist.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
Welcome back everyone, This is Indiana Sports Soalk. Glad you
could join us on a very busy Saturday night. I
know we're all excited about football. I use dramatic win today.
Obviously Colts in Germany High School regionals later on tonight
we're gonna talk about that with Paul Condrey. But some
basketball going on. I love this. I you Indianapolis taking

(35:15):
on Butler at historic Kinklefield House this afternoon. I'm glad
they played the game. I think I think it's great
for basketball fans, not only in the city but in
the state. Butler wins this when one twelve to eighty
with me my good friend from ip uy and Holdaway ed,
thank you so much for the call. Again. Jags come out,

(35:38):
put a lot of points on the board, but not
able to slow down the Bulldogs today.

Speaker 11 (35:44):
Yeah, and you said it, I mean, just couldn't slow
them down. It's a good Butler team, I think, very
much improved and very athletic, and coach Hollatt said after
the game. They don't drop off when they go to
their bench either so six or ten played is as
well as one through five, and so yeah, just really

(36:04):
had our hands full from the opening tap and yeah,
just not where we want to be. But you said too,
that's a good game for us, a good game for
the city. I think.

Speaker 1 (36:15):
I think it's a great game for everybody involved. And look,
I hope they're able to do it in the future.
I have to tell you, you know, the the l
i U game earlier in the week, Jags first game
at home in Ben Hallett's career. I was impressed with
a lot of things I saw. Number one, I was

(36:36):
impressed with l i U. I can see why they
went to the tournament last year. Why their preseason number
one in the Northeast Conference. They are they're as They're
as athletic as any team, uh the Jags will see
in the Horizon League.

Speaker 11 (36:50):
Yeah, I mean these first three games, you go to
Ohio State, you host, like you said, LU who is
as long and athletic as any team that you're gonna
see in league. And then go on the road and
face Butler. I mean this, this team, five days in
the season, is incredibly battles at this point. And again,
coach Holette set it after the game today. His goal

(37:11):
and his plan is to get this team prepared for horizoning,
playing prepared for March and seeing these three different styles.
Butler just very skilled, very athletic. L I U incredibly athletic.
I mean I compared them to kind of the Milwaukee
or Youngstown State or Robert b Yeah, you know, I
would state we're not going to see skyscrapers like in

(37:33):
the middle of seven to one and six ten under
that skilled. So preparation is happening right now for the Jaguars, brand.

Speaker 1 (37:41):
New coach, brand new system. And when we say system,
we use that parenthetically because Ben hallis approach you bring
coming in from West Liberty, a Division two school in
which they led the nation and scoring it seemed like
every year on eighty five percent of his games there

(38:02):
with a ninety four foot approach to basketball, Gonna press
after every score, gonna press on missus. They're gonna they're
gonna pick you up as quickly as they possibly can,
try to extend you as much as they can. And
then they are prolific at shooting three point shots and
making them. Their goal is to take more threes than

(38:24):
you do, make more threes than you do. Make the
game a ninety four foot game for forty minutes, and yeah,
you're three games in, and to implement a systems as
demanding as this takes a little bit of time. And
I know it's frustrating for Ben, frustrating for the kids,
and frustrating for the fans. But let me tell you what.

(38:46):
Be patient, Just be patient. It's going to work.

Speaker 11 (38:51):
Yeah, it's absolutely gonna work. And he has proven that
at the Division II level, and it's going to work.
It's the guys after the game that, you know what,
take tomorrow off and Monday we're back to work and continue.

Speaker 1 (39:06):
To play hard and right.

Speaker 11 (39:08):
Like you said, play all ninety four feet it is,
he describes it as he plays every minute of every
game like he's down eight with two minutes to play,
like he writes, to extend the game. A lot of
possessions speed you up, make you make bad decisions and right,
and when you get forty minutes, you're tapped out.

Speaker 1 (39:25):
You're fatigued, all right, and I need you to hang
on through the short break. Can you do that?

Speaker 11 (39:31):
Absolutely?

Speaker 1 (39:33):
Perfect? Thanks? Welcome back everyone. This is Indiana Sports Sock,
brought to you by Indiana Donor Network. Butler beats Ie
you Indo today one twelve eighty at historic hinkle Field
House and hold Away rejoins us. All right, you mentioned
coach gives them the day off to tomorrow. They they

(39:57):
are back home on Tuesday, a game I'm decided to
be able to do with Greg Rigstraw. They're taking on
IU Columbus. And one of my favorite favorite days, one
of your favorite days. It's the read. It's read to
the final four and what four or five thousand elementary

(40:18):
students will be there? Ed? Is that the play in?

Speaker 11 (40:21):
Yeah, we're gonna top five thousand this year, and it
is my favorite days. I mean that that first time
the ball goes through the basket and you hear five
thousand kids just lose their minds. It is. Yeah, it's
a blast, I mean. And and honestly, it's been a
great partnership with w n d Y and WHICH TV
and the NCAA and this year Anthem has jumped on

(40:42):
board to just allow these kids to to come out
and see a Division one college basketball game. Right, and
there's there's some educational curriculum that comes with it this
year as well. So it is an absolute blast and
it is not for the faint of heart.

Speaker 1 (40:57):
No, no, no, not at all. It's I like it.
I like it because, look, I have a master's degree
in education from Butler University, uh and I am a
licensed reading teacher. I have a reading endorsement. I'm sure
of most people don't recognize. I used to be a
reading teacher. I taught remedial reading at sener Grove High

(41:21):
School for two years before I took the Franklin College job.
And so this is a project that is very near
and dear to my heart. I mean IU indies near
and dear to my heart, but this project is especially
important to me. And you know, I know it's an
IU Columbus team, that's ANAI team just getting started. I

(41:43):
was impressed with what they did a year ago. Excited
about this game, and I love the energy in the building.
This will be at the at the field, excuse me,
at the fair grounds, at the coliseum, whatever we're calling
of Koteva, is that it right. I'm behind on my sponsorship,
so that'll be there, and so it'll be It's it's

(42:03):
one of my favorite days in the entire year. I'm
looking forward to it.

Speaker 11 (42:07):
Yeah, it's it's one of those Christmas comes early for
us kind of dads. Where it is. I mean, and
we've got we've got more mascots on hand this year,
We've got we keep trying to do it bigger and
better each year. Certainly we're excited to move it to
campus and next year hopefully inside James T. Morris Arena.
But this year again five thousand plus in the building,

(42:28):
just primarily third graders.

Speaker 1 (42:30):
Right to be a black, all right ed, big week
for the next week. It's not only not only I
you Columbus. And then they start out on a road
trip that they may it seems to me like they
may never come home after they start this road trip.

Speaker 11 (42:46):
Yeah, I mean, you can go to Eastern Michigan, you
go to Charleston Southern, then you go out west. I
mean it is. I'm going to take a picture of
them before they leave, because I'm not going to make
the all three legs with them. So I'll see them
up in Nipseilani. And then after that it's sela Villo.
I'll catch them when they get home.

Speaker 1 (43:02):
Ed all the way from my Indy Butler beats how
you Indy today? Big win one twelve eighty for the dogs.

Speaker 6 (43:11):
Ed.

Speaker 1 (43:11):
Thanks, have a great weekend.

Speaker 11 (43:13):
Thanks coaching too.
