Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good evening everybody, and welcome to Network Indiana's Indiana Sports
Talk on Bob Lovell. Coming up, we have a lot
to talk about. We got some college football, small college football,
and continue to talk about the Colts and the fever
Notre Dame football. That's all coming up right now, though
we turn it over to the star of our show.

(00:20):
The Star has the big responsibilities, got all their scores.
We turn it over to the Star again, Network Indiana's
Eddie Garrison.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Thank you, Coach love It's a pleasure to be with
you and our producer of Corbyn Lingenfelter tonight on what
is a busy, busy day of college football. The game
that just went final number two or number nineteen in
division to University of Indianapolis defeats McKendree forty seven to nineteen.
Gavin Soukup the quarterback for the Grandhounds, two hundred and
ninety six yards passing and three passing touchdowns. Two games

(00:52):
that are still going on. Anderson is taking on Kalamazoo.
They are being shut out going into the fourth quarter.
It is twenty to nothing. Calabna Zoo. The Butler Bulldogs
first quarter just complete against Weaver State and they are
down thirteen to nine. Things, there's fourteen minutes left in
the first half. Games that happened earlier today, Number twenty

(01:13):
four Notre Dame got on the scoreboy with their first
win of the season over the Purdue boy The Makers.
Purdue now two and two. Notre Dame is one in two.
Fifty six to thirty was the final score. Dominance by
the defensive unit for Notre Dame, but the offense was
the story in this one. CJ. Carr two hundred and
twenty three yards passing two touchdowns on ten completions. He

(01:36):
only threw two incompletions. Jeremiah Love one hundred and fifty
six yards on the ground, two rushing touchdowns. Jadarien Price

the quarterback for the Boy the Makers twenty one to
thirty four, two hundred and fifty yards, passing a passing touchdown,
one interception, and he also caught a fourteen yard touchdown

(01:59):
pass from running back Devin Makabi. Next up for the
Fighting Irish, they will go on the road against a
very explosive offense and the Arkansas Razorbacks. That game will
tip at twelve Eastern. As for Purdue, they're off and
then they will face number nine Illinois. Time to be

(02:19):
determined for that game, but that will be at Ross
State Stadium and West Lafayette. Ball State they were on
the road at Yukon taking on the Huskies. Thirty one
to twenty five was the final score in advantage for Yukon. KYLEE.
Kelly the quarterback for the Cardinals, two hundred and nine
yards passing and a touchdown. He also, like Ryan Brown
of Perdue, had a receiving touchdown. This one was nineteen

(02:43):
yards from wide receiver Keon Magwood. Next up for the
Cardinals is a bye week and then they will take
on the Ohio Bobcats as a home game for ball State,
kickoff at noon eastern. The Indiana State Sycamores were on

to twenty. Next up for the Sycamores or the Selukis
of Southern Illinois. That game was on October the fourth,
following the bye week. Kickoff will be at seven o'clock Eastern.
As for the Butler Bulldogs, we highlighted that they're down
thirteen to nothing against Weaber State. The Wildcats topping the

(03:26):
Bulldogs Manchester University they are oh and three. They lose
to Adrian College Bulldogs. The Bulldogs three and zero. The
Spartans oh to three. They fall fifty seven to that thing.
They will regroup on their bye week and they'll take
on blufft In on the road on October the fourth.
As things stand right now for the Indiana Hoosiers, it
is total dominance. They are ahead against number nine Illinois

(03:50):
forty two to ten, and they're on the verge of
scoring again. Indiana has the ball for the second time
in the second half. They score on their first possession
was a forty yard touchdown run by Kaylon Black. They
are inside the five right now and are threatening to
put up their seventh offensive touchdown or sixth offensive touchdown

(04:10):
in this one. They had a special team's Black punt.
That is how the scoring started for Kurt Cignetti's team.
Major League Baseball, the Chicago White Sox and the San
Diego Padres are about to go final. They're in the
bottom of the ninth inning and the Padres are ahead
of the Chicago White Sox seven to three. It is
over an extra innings. In Saint Louis, the Cardinals fall

(04:30):
into the Milonukee Bowers three to two. For Network Indiana Sports,
I'm Edda Garrison.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
Welcome back everyone on Bob Lovel. This is Indiana Sports Sock,
brought to you by Indiana Donor network HEADI Garrison, Corbyn
Lingenfelter doing the serious work on the show. I'm just
the front man. I'm glad you were us. Glad you
were with us last night. Fun Night talked to twenty
different members of the media and coaches last night. Happen

(05:00):
up week number five. Hard to believe that's where we
are in the season. The pairing show comes up on
October the twelfth. Paul Condre and I are back in
action for this live from THESAA headquarters. I wish I
knew what time that started, but I don't, so we'll
update you as we get closer. Paul's going to join

(05:22):
me later on tonight, as he normally does on Friday
excuse me on Saturday nights and recap what happened around
the state last night and week number five coming up
in this hour, we're going to talk about Notre Dames
fifty six to thirty one over Purdue. As Eddie mentioned,
I you literally having their way with Illinois right now

(05:43):
as we speak, we're ussell gonna talk some small college football.
Eddie's extremely happy. He is University of Indianapolis Greyhounds with
a w over McKendree McKendree College from over near near
the near Saint Louis. Basically, thank you, Corbyn. Corbyn just

(06:04):
telling me that the pairing show starts at six pm Eastern,
So just if you haven't already made a note of
that and be ready, because no one wants to miss
the pairing Show. I mean, you just don't do that.
All right, Eddie Garrison, you're back. This has been your show.
I love it when you're I love it. I mean,
I'm just going to turn it over to you and

(06:25):
let you host the darn thing fever tomorrow three o'clock.
We talked about this. I know Steph's not going to
win the Coach of the Year. It's just not fair.
But tell me who's done better.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
The Coach of the Year Aboard went to the Golden
State Valkyries coach because they were the first ever expansion
team in WNBA history to make the postseason.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
So she.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
Coach of the year.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
So she's our coach of the year though, I'm just
telling you. You talk about holding a roster together and
the most difficult circumstances you could find. And uh, they're
still playing. Just just a reminder to the Valkyries, they're
still playing.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
Yeah, and so.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
Fever taking on the Vegas Las Vegas Aces tomorrow three o'clock.
You're you're you know you're hosting the pre and postgame
show on their network on the and and so hang
on to that thought. We'll come back. Wabash College today
in college football with a very impressive win over Worcester,

(07:31):
the College of Worcester forty seven nineteen to the final
with me Walbash head coach Jay Gilbert, coach, thanks so
much for the call. Congratulations on the win.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
Hey coach, thanks for having me appreciate that. We're eed
a great pull to the three and oh JB two
and you rolling.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
I miss you on Fridays, brother, I missed you. I
had had to call you.

Speaker 4 (07:56):
I was so grateful to get this text to call you.
Uh feel familiar and bittersweet. I love it. I love both.
And you know, I don't know that I want to
be a college football coach anywhere else that I do
love All Beast College certainly best Friday Night, everything about it.

(08:17):
We were glassed every everywhere We've been coaching straightful for
all of it. Uh. Enjoy being back on the show tonight.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
I appreciate it. Uh you're three and oh you mentioned
that this is an important college conference win today. I
think you you know you've walked in back to the
album mater. I did that a long time ago when I,
uh coach at Franklin College, and having played there, I
understand what the dynamics of going back home. Uh. And

(08:47):
it's uh, it's not as easy as people think. Uh.
Number one is hard, especially the league you play. And secondly, uh,
you're brand new. College game is a little bit different
in some way with the high school games, and so
you you know, your focus is taking a different turn now.

Speaker 4 (09:07):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
And you you inherited a great group of guys. That's
the big thing about it is you have wonderful, wonderful kids,
a great staff. Frankly, brand new coach probably couldn't ask
for more than what you have, no doubt about that.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
This is the best place ever to coach college football.
I know Constable has changed a lot since I was
in the last and uh, you know, you kind of
just pay attention from AFAR pfessonalization of Division one and
all of that trickles down the portal in Il, all
of those things. But you know, I'm not so sure

(09:45):
this isn't just the best place to coach. We we
don't deal with France portal and nil very much at all, right, right,
you don't deal with crazy parents. You know that. We
just have great young men who truly want to play
for the love of the game, and they're committed to
their education. But they're committed to a football program and
committed to each other. So it's an honor. I'm very

(10:07):
fortunate to have this job.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
All right, Jake, I need you to hang on through
this school board update and then we'll come back and
talk about how you were able to beat Worcester today. Okay,
will do perfect? Coming up schoolboard update with Eddie Garrison.
This is Indiana Sports Dook.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
With this Indiana Sports Doc scoreboard update. I'm Mitty Getrison.
Tomorrow one o'clock the Indianapolis Colts first road game of
the season, they are in Nashville taking on divisional foe
The Tennessee Titans.

Speaker 5 (10:36):
Got a lot of respect for Dinard Wilson, their decoordinator
had a chance to be with him in Philly. Aggressive style,
attacking defense, multiple looks, got a good front starts up
front with ninety eight Simmons. He's one of the best
in the league, so I got to control him as
much as possible. Needs a hell of a player on
defense as well, So I think they do a lot
of good things defensively. I think offensively they can run

(11:00):
the ball really well. I think Paulard's an explosive back.
I think the quarterback's very talented. He can move around,
make plays off platforms. So we've got to have great
rush lanes come Sunday against him, because he made a
ton of plays a little bit with his legs already.
He made a third and goal at the nine against
the Rams, running around Bom and threw it back across
his body, which was a hell of a play. So

(11:21):
we got doing a good job containing him.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
I was head coach team Shane Steikn previewing the Tennessee Titans.
An update on the injury report for the Indianapolis Colts.
After practice yesterday, it was listed as questionable for cornerback
Tavarius Ward and tight end Tyler Warren. Both of those
players are off the injury report. Shavarius Ward clear concussion protocol.

(11:46):
Tyler Warren was dealing with a toe injury that had
him limited in practice on Thursday and Friday. Two players
have been ruled out for Tennessee tackle JC Latham and
Tovandre Sweat defensive tackle or out. Kevin Wilson's safety for
Tennessee doubtful, and the Titans have five players questionable. We'll

(12:07):
talk about that later. For Network Indiana Sports, I Middi Garrison.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
Welcome back everyone. Let's return to our conversation with Jay
Gilbert to football coach at Walbash College. They beat Worcester
today thirty four to seven. All right, Coach looks to
me like, defensively, you start out there, what a great
job your kids did on that side of the ball.

Speaker 4 (12:32):
Yeah, you know, we kind of let some points in
in the first two games that we didn't think we
should have, let a couple of bats scramble, touchdowns and
things like that. So challenge the guys this league, I
felt thought our pursuit needs and improve, and it did.
We've got two takeaways, which was better than the one
we got last week. Got out to the quarterback a

(12:53):
little bit. Yeah, I was really happened with our guys.
We certainly just seemed to be in control. Only give
up ten totally aard rushing which is excellent, and then
managed to keep the ball in front of us in
the back half.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
So who gets these scores for you, coach?

Speaker 4 (13:14):
Well, Luke Adams had an amazing touchdown. Luke Adham from Sullivan, Indiana.
He is every game he makes some kind of circus catch,
it seems. He had a long touchdown. Xavier Tyler Mevansville
had a breakaway run. Paul Dickerson had a touchdown or

(13:35):
other running back. So those were the three most exciting.
Brody Rucker kicked in a couple of field goals. So yeah,
so good day for us. Just spreading the ball around.
Lots of guys touched the ball in our offense, lots
of guys that managed to score points for.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
US three and oh, you might want to get in
and start running for the mayor of Crawford Zille for heaven, say.

Speaker 4 (14:01):
Well, maybe that's over. I appreciate the face to have
him meet. I think God wants me to do exactly
what I'm doing.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
I got it all right. Dennison comes to your place
next week. It doesn't get any easier for you, that's
for sure.

Speaker 4 (14:18):
No, they're really good. They're one and one, but they
lost the national ranked team. We beat them by one
point last year. They beat us the prior two years.
Very well coached. They've got a bye week this week,
so they've been preparing for us. It'll be it'll be
a monster.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
Wabash moves to three and oero on the season with
a thirty four to seven win over Worcester. Jay Gilbert, Congratulations,
good luck to you and your guys next week.

Speaker 4 (14:45):
Thanks so, it's always a pleasure.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
Thanks very much. Hanover College with a W. The Hanover
Panthers beat Alma twenty four to twenty three with me
the head coach of the Panthers, Matthew Bold coach, thanks
for the call. Great win, great win for you and
your guys today.

Speaker 6 (15:03):
Appreciate it. Bob. We're we're we're just still rolling rolling home.
Still nice, seven and a half hours draft home.

Speaker 4 (15:10):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (15:10):
It's a little sweeter when you when you when you
come on the scoreboard, so uh not not as long.
But yeah, no, the guys, uh battle that was the
great game. We we finished second or Trumper, it's almost
second Nurse. They they've been getting some national boats twenty
five and that stuff, and uh, you know, we we

(15:30):
showed up and kind of let it all hang out
and uh we we we just kept fighting one more
round and model this year and guys, we'll get there
and we we Uh they scored a field goal, we
scored a touchdown, and right as right as half time
was getting ready to click off, when sixteen seconds left

(15:51):
in Ian robber Bush from New Pound a great job
of leading a few minute drill and got a big
touchdown right befull the half of us up ten to seven,
and we came out and uh they they rattled off
twenty now it was twenty three ten at one point,
and yeah, we just we turned around in the fourth

(16:11):
quarter and and started going a little bit more tempo
and defense made some big stops and and we know
Scott and Johnson our hybrid tight end and right to
big touchdown catches and uh defense, it's been a good
job of broly shutting down a great office.

Speaker 1 (16:27):
People must have forgotten that you you can play that
temple off. It's pretty well you've made a living at
it for Hiven's sakes.

Speaker 6 (16:39):
Perry.

Speaker 1 (16:39):
Yeah, go ahead, and we're having trouble.

Speaker 7 (16:41):
You still there, I'm still here, can you hear me?

Speaker 1 (16:44):
All right? Yeah? Go ahead?

Speaker 6 (16:45):
Yeah yeah, So uh yeah, almost quarterbacks in all American
and and I talk Ian went tow to toe with him,
and we had you know, we had a step up.
But running back Morris la Nation rush rover one hundred
yards and the O line did a great job been
you know, super sat super happy with with the way
it finished. And uh we end up blocking the extra

(17:06):
field extra earned the field goal at the end of
the game with they hit the penalty.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
Thank you man. Yeah, now say that again to the
game winner. When did you kick that game winner?

Speaker 6 (17:22):
Well, we forty six seconds left and they got the
ball back, drove it down, they kicked about thirty about
a forty five yarder. We blocked ring the kicker. They
moved it up to the fifteen and we went wide
left for us and and uh and we walked out
it and got stuck out there on the one point victory.

Speaker 1 (17:44):
So that's great. That's that that first one. That's sweet,
all right? So who you playing next week? Who is
it next week?

Speaker 6 (17:52):
We got the Mighty by next week, so we got
a chance to work on some fundamentals and wrestling, work
body and our guys with warriors. I mean, there's a kid,
Brian Wall, he played with he was digged up a
little bit from the Butler game. He played great. There
was a conference player the week last year, but last
week in a loss and then came out had eleven
tackles and uh a warrior and so well we're gonna

(18:16):
rest some guys and get healthy and and work with
some on some fundamentals. But well we got rose Home
in the following week, and uh so we're in the
conference play after this buy. So it's it's well needed,
and I like that. I was super proud of our guys,
just the way we battled and hung in there and
and they sold the momentum in the third quarter and
we got it back in the fourth quarter and just
kind of ran away with it and got a lot

(18:39):
of fighting these guys. So it's it's the seam reminds
me a lot of a lot of that Rocky You know,
we're just gonna stay in there and take some punches
and just come back and and hopefully you know, we
were in the ballgame with Butler and with Cinner and
and that's what I love about these They all they're
gonna believe. And that's got a we preach here is
just believe one another thing's gonna happen. Today they and

(19:01):
today they did. We got one one left and we'll
take it. So about two hours a week from home,
so so we'll be back back at it on Monday
with these Joahs.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
So Matt Theobald is the football coach at Hannover College.
The Panthers beat Almah today twenty four to twenty three. Matt,
thanks for the call. Enjoy the week off next week
and good luck in a couple of weeks.

Speaker 6 (19:27):
Appreciate it, Mom, thanks for everything.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
Thank you. I appreciate it. Thank you Panthers with a w.
That's good. Small college football alive and well. Eddie Garrison's
going to update you on some of those scores and
the school board update in a couple of minutes. Also
coming up, we're going to talk about Notre Dame's win
over Purdue. Bottom of the hour, and Lynn Clark will

(19:48):
join us from Irish one oh one, Irish win that
one impressively fifty six thirty. We'll talk about that also
coming up later on in the show. Pat Boyling will
join us talking about the Fever Fever taking on the
Las Vegas Aces tomorrow. Eddie will be working tomorrow on

(20:11):
that game, Colt's taking on the Tennessee Titans tomorrow one o'clock.
So the plan is clear, get your remote, be ready,
start out watching the Colts halftime or so you're close
to the Fever game. Back and forth, back and forth,
watch some ball. Hopefully the good guys and the good

(20:33):
ladies get w's. That's what we're talking about. That is
exactly what we need to do. So there you have it,
all right, Eddie Garrison, I got everybody primed and ready
for what's going on.

Speaker 2 (20:45):
Right, Absolutely, let's go. I'm ready.

Speaker 1 (20:47):
Well, they got to listen to you. Now, when can
they listen to you? And locally here in the Indianapolis area,
when can we catch you?

Speaker 2 (20:53):
Two is when I will be on the air with
pregame coverage and because of Colts duties, that game will
be heard on ninety three point one w IBC instead
of the fans. So yep, that's how you can listen
to me tomorrow afternoon.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
Eddie, you're just all over the joint. Brother, good Lord,
have mercy. You're working. It's like having an actual job, Eddie.
Don't you think?

Speaker 2 (21:16):
I don't think so, not at all.

Speaker 1 (21:18):
Okay, I've find it funny. I try to explain to people.
I said, yeah, they say, everyone asks you, you know, retired? Yeah,
I guess. But unless you call sitting in your house, uh,
five hours a weekend talking about sports with your friends,
that's my retirement job. But after all the things I did,

(21:42):
you know, basketball baseball coach at Franklin College, athletic director
basketball coach at I p u y need, I need
a break. We're back talking more football on Indiana Sports Talk.

Speaker 2 (21:53):
The Tigers defeat kenyan A thirty five to fourteen. They
are now three and oh on the season. Scott balance
three hundred and thirty two yards and two passing touchdowns
for DePaul. Next up is Wittenberg. That is a road
contest for the Tigers. They will look to go four
to oh. Kickoff one o'clock eastern next week. Rose Holman

(22:13):
the fighting engineers at alban They followed twenty five seventeen
The Fighting Engineers are now one and two in the loss.
Running back Jay Smith did aclipse one hundred yards. He
had one hundred and five in a rushing touchdown. They're
off next week and then they will take on handover
at two pm Eastern on October the fourth. Right now,
Indiana Illinois, they are just starting the fourth quarter, and

(22:37):
the fighting A line I have not had any answers
whatsoever for the Indiana Hoosiers.

Speaker 8 (22:42):
The potter out there on the field is Klonkribins and
the beat snap from center, Indiana's gonna pick it up up.
Fernando ready to take the snap, gets it looks too
over the middle, fires it into the end zone.

Speaker 1 (22:57):
Head up tuxas to.

Speaker 3 (23:01):
Team j William But for.

Speaker 8 (23:03):
Sumpton Gray receivers to the fire side, here's Mendoza takes
the step, looks to the ends on fires the football.

Speaker 6 (23:08):
Why up so for the touchdown?

Speaker 2 (23:12):
Listen to the joy and excitement and Don Fischer in
those calls on lear Field Sports. Fifty six to ten
is the score the Hoosiers dominating Illinois. The only touchdown
for the finding line I came in the first quarter.
For networking Youanta Sports, I'm atty Garrison.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
Welcome back, Fever, play tomorrow three o'clock against the Las
Vegas aces with me from the Fever Pat Boyle and
joins me, Hello, Pat, Hi, Bob, good to be with you.
It's great to be with you because I love the Fever.
I love everything about them. Their story continues to resonate

(23:56):
as it should, and the job that Coach White and
her players in the front office and the entire franchise
is a fantastic story that cannot be repeated often enough.

Speaker 7 (24:07):
You know, when you and I were talking two weeks ago,
I was in Baltimore for the fever second to last
game of the regular season, and you're making a pretty
compelling point for why Stephanie White should be Coach of
the Year. Now, she wasn't Coach of the Year, right,
The coach who won it was the coach of the
Golden State Valkyries, which were the expansion team that made
incredibly impressive.

Speaker 1 (24:28):
Tremendously Absolutely, I'm okay with it. But Steph should have
been one A. It should have been one A and
one B.

Speaker 7 (24:35):
And you know I did have the thought about our
conversation after the Fever won that game to advance the
semi finals you know, if you did the voting now
after round one, which of course you don't and you should, right,
Just to make the point, if you did the voting now,
I think Stephanie White has a pretty good shot because
the Fever are one of four teams less and it's

(24:55):
three superpowers, and you know, the Fever team that has
just been decimated by injury all season long in front
bring their best player, Caitlin Clark. So we've talked a
lot about the resiliency of this team here on your show,
but the other night in Game three against Atlanta was
the best example today.

Speaker 1 (25:11):
Yeah, And you know, I'm seldom critical on this show.
I've I've made it a special point of not criticizing
people places I just don't do it. But I was
struck watching that game, wondering where are we playing? Are
we playing in a high school facility somewhere? I mean
here you are on a w NBA and I understand

(25:33):
you have facility issues, but you can't come up with
a better place to play than that.

Speaker 7 (25:39):
Yeah, you know, a couple of these teams, Washington comes
to mind, Atlanta comes to mind. Over the years they
had been playing in NBA arenas and frankly not putting
up people in them where it wasn't a great look.

Speaker 1 (25:52):
No, I understand that, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 7 (25:54):
And so they went to the smaller arenas. You know
that they were more WNBA, that fit the audience better.
But in my opinion, they went too far the other direction.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
I agree with him.

Speaker 7 (26:08):
Now you don't leave yourself, you don't leave yourself through
for growth.

Speaker 1 (26:13):
And so now you have.

Speaker 7 (26:13):
These games with thirty five hundred seats where you probably
could have stilled ten to fifteen thousand.

Speaker 1 (26:20):
Sure, I you know, I agree with you.

Speaker 7 (26:22):
I see what Atlanta was doing. I know what they
were thinking. But in my opinion, they went too far
the other direction, right, and the middle ground would be great.
And you know, the Fever are fortunate that the Caitlin
Clark audience allows them to fill eighteen thousand seats, which
not every team can say that. But at the same point,
I think the league has grown to a level in

(26:42):
my opinion, where you should have more than thirty five
hundred people in a basketball game, certainly a playoff game
like the game in Atlanta.

Speaker 4 (26:49):
The other day.

Speaker 1 (26:50):
All right, how have we done against the Aces throughout
the year?

Speaker 4 (26:54):
Well?

Speaker 7 (26:54):
Good thing is the Fever have played three games against them.
They've won two of them, right, did those without Kate
and Clark, so that's also good Atlanta. Excuse me, Las
Vegas has had a fascinating season. Two thirds of the
way through the year, I would have made the case
they were one of the more underwhelming teams, good teams
that I have seen in a long time.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
They were sitting there at.

Speaker 7 (27:15):
Sixteen and sixteen, and this is the team with four
Olympians that was five hundred and thirty two games into
a forty four game season, and they then from that
point had lost just one time, including the playoffs, So
they've run through just a terrific, terrific last month and
a half. The Fever did play them in those three

(27:38):
games during their more underwhelming stretch, so that is worth noting.
They do have a multi time MVP. The four has
won multiple championships, so it's and the Fever are shorthanded,
as we've been discussing, they have home court advantage, so
it's gonna be a real challenge. But you know, I
don't think a lot of people saw them beating Atlanta

(27:59):
a shorthanded as they were without home court advantage either,
and so you can't put anything past this group. You
can't put anything past me. Watch the team and Kelsey
Mitchell wasn't out top five in the MVP voting as
one of the finalists the other days. She's been that
good this year. And when you know you've got a
team that has been as resilient as they have all year,

(28:19):
to me, there's no reason they can't keep it going,
even though they will be underdogs.

Speaker 1 (28:23):
Three o'clock start tomorrow, the Fever taking on the Las
Vegas Aces. Must watch TV. Okay, get your remote switch
between the Fever and the Colts. You gotta watch them both.
They deserve your support. Pat Boiling, you make my night
every time you're on the show. Thanks for doing this.

Speaker 7 (28:43):
Likewise, Bob, good to talk to you, and I thank
you having more conversation about this team here.

Speaker 1 (28:47):
And I'm sure I'm sure we will. I'm absolutely certain
we will. Thanks Pat, Thanks Bob, appreciate you. Notre Dame
were a win today, fifty six thirty over perdue. Lynn
Clark joins me the man himself Irish one oh one,
Doctor Clark, very impressive win for your Irish today.

Speaker 3 (29:07):
Well, the Irish offense finally came alive. Piling up five
hundred and thirty five total yards in averaging eight and
a half yards for play, and again, quarterback CJ. Carr
continued his poise, going nearly perfect ten of twelve for
two hundred and twenty three yards and two touchdowns. Jeremiah
Love a breakout game, added one hundred and fifty seven
yards and two scores, but Jadarian Price was really the

(29:29):
star performer of the night. Four total touchdowns, three rushing
in an electrifying one hundred yard kickoff return that really
set the tone in the second half. Defense a little
bit better tonight, but one area they need to improve upon.
The Irish allowed three hundred and three passing yards to
the maker. They need to tighten that up if they're
playing down at Arkansas next week. But they did limit
Purdue to just four or fourteen on third down and

(29:51):
winning the turnover battle.

Speaker 1 (29:54):
I just believe that they are they in this whole
idea that they have to win each game.

Speaker 3 (30:00):
Win is that the mindset you have to you can't
afford three losses. You're not going to get in the
college football playoffs. So I think that was really the
message sent in practice this past week is that hey,
you've got one game. Take each game. You lose it,
you're done. If not, yeah, then we have a chance.
And so which was a needed game. It is always
a great game when Perdue gets together. Perdue is a

(30:22):
much better team.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
Than there's still question. Yeah, but Notre.

Speaker 3 (30:25):
Dame put up some big points and this was the
kind of game they needed. But the tote was really
set when on the first play from scrimmage CJ. Carr
just opened it up, showed his arm strength, scored the touchdown.
And that's what Irish fans have been looking for all
season long. A little breathing room tonight, confidence in this team.
Will see what happens next week. Done in Fayetteville.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
You know what, I think Name went through it a
year ago. I mean saying very similar scenario frankly, and
in some respects playing each game is as if you
were in a in a playoff format already, you know,
because if you if you if you win, you keep playing.
If you don't, then things happen. So that's the mindset

(31:04):
you have and they've had. Frankly, if you're a Notre Dame,
you're playing that way anyway.

Speaker 3 (31:08):
You always do. But I think you just make a
great analogy. This is a tournament. You can't lose another
game otherwise you're at the tournament. And so this is
really sending a message that the players need to continue
to improve. And it's a lot of improvement that this
team needs to do. But they're getting better going four
games into the season.

Speaker 1 (31:25):
Next weekend, everybody healthy. Did we come out of this
all right as we get ready for Yeah.

Speaker 3 (31:32):
So far, so good. But they had that hour and
a half rain delay and second week in a road
for Purdue. But you know, the players, they came out
and warmed up and Purdue battle, that's I have to say.
And the score was a little bit closer than it
actually was, but Notre Dame. They needed the big plays.
They delivered on the big plays tonight.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
Lynn Clark, Doctor Lynn Clark Irish one one, Irish beat
Perdue fifty six thirty Lynn, thanks, do me a favor
and call me Monday. I need to chat a little bit. Okay, nothing,
I appreciate it. Thank you, Lynn, Thanks very much. All right,
try and beat Franklin College today thirty five twenty seven

(32:14):
with me thunderhead coach Troy Abs coach, thanks so much
for the call. Congratulat congratulations on the win.

Speaker 4 (32:22):
Thanks.

Speaker 9 (32:23):
It was a heck of a ball game, Bob, I'll.

Speaker 1 (32:25):
Bet it was. You do know that I am a
Franklin College graduate.

Speaker 9 (32:29):
Well, you do know that I am a Handover College graduate.
So you know what, it's a lot of fun, buddy.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
I do not hold that trust me. I like you.
I don't hold that against you. My grandson is a graduate,
which has made me come off the normal Franklin Hanover stance.
Only because of my my only grandchild. Would I do that?
And I will tell you and you can appreciate this.
When my former players heard that my grandson was going

(32:56):
to hand over, I mean every one of them texted
me from IU p U, I from Franklin. Cousee all
texted me going, how could you let this happen? And
it's a real thing.

Speaker 9 (33:07):
I don't talk about my own hotter a lot, but
that the rivalry is real.

Speaker 1 (33:12):
All right, Troy, hang on through the scoreboard update.

Speaker 4 (33:14):
Okay, you bet you.

Speaker 1 (33:16):
We'll come back talk some more football on Indiana Sports Talk.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
With this Indiana Sports Talk scoreboard update, I medi Garrison.
Let's take a look around college football to see how
other top twenty five games are going. Eight minutes left
in the fourth quarter. Number eight Texas against Sam Houston.
Arch Maning looking much better today eighteen of twenty one
at three hundred and nine yards passing and three passing
touchdowns for the Longhorns, who are ahead of Sam Houston

(33:43):
fifty five to nothing. Number three LSU all over Southeast
Louisiana and what did you expect? Quite frankly, seven minutes
left in the fourth quarter fifty six to seven all
Tigers Garrett Nessmeyer two hundred and seventy three yards passing
and three passing touchdowns. Number twenty Vanderbilt is cruising right
now to a win over Georgia State fifty six to fifteen.

Speaker 1 (34:07):
Indiana.

Speaker 2 (34:08):
Number nineteen is smothering Number nine Illinois sixty three to ten,
and the Hoosiers just got an interception the line. I
have no answers for anything for the Indiana Hoosiers. They
have outscored Illinois in the second half twenty eight to nothing.
There's four minutes left in the rivalry game between number

(34:30):
four Miami and the Florida Gators. At the inch line
are the Hurricanes right now looking to put this one
away With four minutes left in the fourth quarter. No
major upsets today in college football. Oregon cruises past Oregon
State forty one to seven. Florida State demolishes Kent State
sixty six to ten. Number seven seminals. Oklahoma squeaks out

(34:52):
of win over Auburn twenty four seventeen. John Mattier with
a passing touchdown and rushing touchdown.

Speaker 1 (34:59):
Ole Miss.

Speaker 2 (35:01):
Dominates Tulane forty five to ten. For that ri Keniona Sports.
I'm Eddy Garrison.

Speaker 1 (35:06):
Welcome back everyone. This is Indiana Sports Talk. Before the break,
we were talking with Trying's head coach, Troy Abs trying
to beat Franklin College thirty five to twenty seven. All right,
you said it was a great game. Tell me what
you touchdown it to en to win? Is it that great?

Speaker 9 (35:23):
It wasn't that great, but just a really good job.
You know, the first half really dominated by field position.
Franklin goes up fourteen to nothing and they score with
a minute one left in the second quarter, and then
we put together a three play sixty eight yard drive
to pull it within fourteen to seven, and we get

(35:45):
the ball to start the third quarter and tie it
up and score a couple more touchdowns and just a
really good effort by the Trant offense. I mean, we
started off, we had a hard time moving the ball,
and our offensive coaching staff app and our quarterback did
a great job. Our quarterback ended up r J West
thirty for forty for four hundred and thirty five yards

(36:07):
of four touchdowns. I mean he I mean, and he
started off. I mean Franklin gives gave us fits early
in the in the first and second quarter and really
kind of held us, uh name, maybe one or two
first downs, but but he turned it around at the
end of the at the end of the second quarter
and the rest of the game.

Speaker 1 (36:28):
Four hundred and thirty five yards Troy, So, I don't
care where you are what it is. That's a lot
of yards, it really is.

Speaker 9 (36:35):
I mean, it's second all time for us. We had
we checked the wrecords in our record for one game
as four hundred and thirty nine, four hundred and thirty nine.
So you know, he is number two all time and
it's his it's his his first first start, and we're
excited about RG West.

Speaker 1 (36:55):
Where do you go to high school?

Speaker 3 (36:57):
Uh?

Speaker 9 (36:57):
He's a Cincinnati Princeton graduate, Okay, you know, came to
us from the University of Charleston. Just a just a
great young man and did a great job kind of
getting in the rhythm of things. Uh, starting at the
end of the second quarter, we were kind of out
of rhythm, and and he righted the ship well as
well with our our offensive coordinator. Uh, they they did

(37:20):
a great job and uh did great things at the
end of the game. Really got handed to our offensive line.
Who who was able to uh run down the clock
at the end and and secure the victory.

Speaker 1 (37:31):
In addition to R. J. West, who else stepped up
and played.

Speaker 9 (37:35):
Well, I'll tell you we had. We had a lot
of great performances. Cam mccarver's done a great job on
our offensive line. He's from Huntington North High School. Two
un assisted tackles, six assisted tackles in a sack, uh,
a lot of quarterback hurries. Just a just a really
great young man. Uh, you know, not only in production

(37:55):
but in leadership. Would have been really easy for our
team to get down, uh being down fourteen to nothing,
but he was one of the guys who got us,
you know, riled up on the sidelines and getting everything going.
Rashawn Street from Greenfield Central had five catches for one
hundred and two yards a touchdown fifty yards after contact

(38:19):
and his longest touchdown was seventy yards. So just now,
outstanding game by Rashawn.

Speaker 1 (38:26):
All Right, So now we start getting into a conference
play right next week against Albion.

Speaker 9 (38:32):
Yeah, yeah, So so we're heading we'll start start the
trips north. And you know we're the only Indiana member
of the Michigan Interclegiate Athletic Association, so you know we've
got our work cut out for us. It's a great league,
a lot of good competition, and we're eager to get started.

Speaker 1 (38:53):
It's a good way to get get going. Even though
it was my alma manor a good it's a good
way to get yourself getting into it. Trying with a
very impressive win over Franklin College today thirty excuse me,
thirty five twenty seven in the final, Coach Troy abs Troy,

(39:13):
thank you so much for the call. Best of luck
to you and the thunder and I appreciate your time.
You bet, I have a great night, Thanks very much.
A big time, big lot. A lot of conversation there
about small college football. We talking about Walt Bash, talking
about handover trying, good stuff, really really good stuff coming

(39:38):
up short break, we'll come back talk some more ball.
This is Network Indiana's Indiana's Sports Donk. Welcome back everyone.
This is Indiana Sports Stung pronte by Indiana Donor Network.
All right, Eddie Garrison, what's up with the Hoosiers?

Speaker 4 (39:58):
Eddie?

Speaker 1 (39:59):
Hello, Edie, I'm back, coach. What's up? What's up with
the Hoosiers? My brother?

Speaker 2 (40:04):
They are up sixty three to ten right now? And
at the two minute warning.

Speaker 1 (40:09):
Say that again. I thought you said sixty three to ten.

Speaker 2 (40:12):
Yeah, I did sixty three to ten at the mint
of time out.

Speaker 1 (40:15):
Yes, over the number nine ranked team in the country.

Speaker 2 (40:20):
Uh huh.

Speaker 1 (40:22):
I'm not sure anybody's clearly the aligne. I didn't see
this coming.

Speaker 2 (40:26):
I knew, no, they did not. It's twenty eight points
in the second half for I use zero for Illinois.
And it's still to remind you that the only touchdown
at the Illinois fighting line I scored was on a
busted coverage where the safety in the corner for I.
You didn't communicate. They both took the same receiver and

(40:47):
the outside receiver just kind of broke free down the
sideline and Luke Outmo found him for a walking touchdown.
And outside of that, I used, defense has been perfect.

Speaker 1 (40:56):
That's good. And offensively they are still listen, they have
not They're just like last year. Yeah, I thought last
year's team was pretty prolific. This one's even better.

Speaker 2 (41:08):
Oh yeah. Fernando Mendoza adds another element that last year
that Curtis Work didn't, and that's mobility within the pocket
and a threat as a runner. But just because of
the fact that, you know, Curtis Worker was dealing with
a knee injury after the season that we found out
he was playing on a I think it was a
partially torn ACL or MCL one of those you know,
major ligaments. But Mendoza today twenty one of twenty three,

(41:29):
two hundred and sixty seven yards passing, yeah, passing touchdowns,
and it's just absolutely ridiculous watching him complete some of
these throws. Tonight coach, because there's a lot of steam
leading up to the start of the season, sure that
he could be a potential guy that could be a
first round quarterback and a guy that could be an
underrated pick to win the Heisman. So for him to

(41:49):
go out and play this way, it was only encouraging
and IU has to build on it. Now they have
to go on the road for the first time this year.
I take on the Iowa Hawkeyes next week.

Speaker 1 (42:00):
Yeah, listen, first time on the road. It's different, out
of your comfort zone. But the way they're playing, the
momentum they have, the efficiency they have, that's the thing
about them. On both sides of the ball. They're an
efficient they don't make mistakes and they maximize, especially on

(42:20):
the offensive side. They're unbelievably efficient.

Speaker 2 (42:23):
Yeah, first time since nineteen eighty five, nineteen eighty six,
they have started consecutive seasons four and oh. So this
team just Yeah, the one question you had after the
first three weeks of the season was is the defense
as good as it was last year? And they certainly
answered that today. They had seven total sacks, I want
to say, and they had two players with two sacks

(42:44):
each and then a bunch of other guys that were
involved in sacks. So it was just an overall dominant
day for the Hoosiers. And I'm not sure if there's
anything that Kurt Signetti I will point to after the
game that he didn't like, just because of the fact
they were able to run the ball effectively over three
hundred yards on the ground, averaging six point four per carryon.
They did whatever they wanted throw in the football as well.

Speaker 1 (43:05):
Eddie Jarrison coming up with the top of the hour
scoreboard update and more on the Hoosiers will come back,
talk some more football On the other side of the hour,

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
