Speaker 1 (00:05):
Good evening, everybody, and welcome to Network Indiana's Indiana Sports
sock On Bob Lovel brought to you by Indiana Donor Network.
Coming up, we have a lot of football to talk about,
the Colts taking on Pittsburgh tomorrow. Talk about that with
Matt Taylor. Also more college football, and we're gonna squeeze
in some talk about the Pacers right now, though, turn
(00:27):
it over to the star of our show. It's Network
Indiana's Corbyn Lingenfilter.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
This Indiana Sports Talk scoreboard update is brought to you

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Thank you, coach. It is great to be with you
and Kurt Jerald on this Saturday night. And what a
day to be a Hoosier, especially if you're an IU fan.
Nine to ohero for the second straight season and Number
two takes down Maryland fifty five to ten today. Also
for the Irish bands, Notre Dames, the twelfth seated team
in the nation. They win twenty five to ten over
(01:07):
Boston College. Undy takes down Quincy today forty nine to three. Indiana.
Wesleyan ob Taylor fifty six to forty eight and over
over bluffed in forty eight to zero. Drake gets the
best of Butler by five, twenty four to nineteen. Marion
played Saint Francis today out of Illinois and Marion comes
(01:28):
away with a twenty eight to eleven win. Also, Anderson
takes down Franklin College forty one to seven. Currently going
on number twenty one. Michigan Leeds perdue twenty one to sixteen.
They're late in the fourth quarter. Some basketball actions. Tonight,
the Indiana Pacers hosted the Golden State Warriors, and it
(01:49):
was Golden State up until the very end. The Pacers
get their first win up the season. They moved to
one in five one in two at home, as Golden
State now falls to four and three one in three
after the one to fourteen to nine lost to Indiana.
The Pacers were led by Aaron Nesmith thirty one points tonight,
(02:12):
followed by Pascal Siakam with twenty seven. Other double digit
scores that included Quinton Jackson with twenty five Isaiah Jackson
with ten as the Pacers again improved to one in
five on the year. Head coach Kurt Signetti after I
use win, gave his overall thoughts on the game, and
(02:32):
I used not a no start.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
All right, it's hard to win on a road.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Good win.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
You know, a game didn't start out great, you know
with the turnover. Defense did a great job of holding
them the three points and the second drive. The offense
didn't do a whole lot either. Defense held him again
and at the end of the day, the defense created
five turnovers. This was number one team in the country
in turnover ratio going in the game. Offense ran the
(03:00):
ball for three hundred and seventy yards and I think
Maryland ran for twenty five. So it's hard to win
on the roads.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
Really good win, that said coach kurtzing Andy on U
athletics moving over in another name after their twenty five
to ten win over Boston College. Head coach Marcus Freeman
addressed the kicking issues that the average have had.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
The issues were every time we kicked the ball, they
not going between filver poats, and so that's the issues. Yeah,
We're gonna keep keep putting guys in there until we
consistently have somebody put the ball through the field goal pots.
And we have three kickers, but if you're rotating three kickers,
you don't have one. And we'll figure out physically what
(03:46):
is it right, Well, we know, I mean, but we've
got to do what we do in practice better in
the game. And so that's that's the situation. We're gonna
figure this thing out because our team to day, our
team deserves for us will make extra pensive field willins
and so for us to reach the potential that we
believe we have in the are fixing the urgency road Sampson.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
That is head coach Marcus Freeman on nover Dame Athletic
t two page for the predud boiler Makers twenty one
to sixteen to score two minutes ago in the fourth quarter.
Also coming up tomorrow, the Indianapolis Colts take on the
Pittsburgh Steelers. That game will kick off at one o'clock.
Head coach Shane steike In previewed Pittsburgh earlier this week.
Speaker 6 (04:31):
Obviously a very talented football team going on the road
in a hostel environment. Got a lot of respect for
their players, their coach. I think they do a phenomenal job.
So we're looking forward to the opportunity to go on
the road.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
Though head coach Shane Stikeen on Colts in YouTube again
golds Pittsburgh coming up at one o'clock to marld Colts
looking to go eight and one. I'm Corten Wingenfild.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Welcome back, everybody. Let's talk some Colts football. Colts and
the Steelers tomorrow one o'clock. Colts have only lost once.
Best record in the league, not by accident. It's because
they're pretty good. Talking about pretty good. The voice of
the Colts, Matt Taylor, joins me.
Speaker 7 (05:21):
Hello, Matt, Hey, Bob, how are you?
Speaker 1 (05:25):
I'm great? All right? What we go as last night?
Trick or treating? How'd the kids look?
Speaker 7 (05:30):
The kids were great. We went as I believe Cowboy
Cowboy Barbie or Cowgirl Barbie in this case, and then
Sonic the Hedgehog with my five year old. It was
pretty epic. We stayed out till you know. I don't
know what the trick or treating hours were in our neighborhood,
(05:50):
but I'm sure so we did pretty well.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
I'm sure you're gonna get fined by the homeowners Association.
It'd be my guess what'd you and your wife go as?
You are you gonna tell me you guys, didn't you
didn't get dressed up.
Speaker 7 (06:08):
I hate to admit it, but no, we didn't know.
Oh yeah, I kind of dunk. You know, my little
guy tuckered out before my eight year old, so she
was still going song. So I went back with him.
So the way our neighborhoods kind of mapped out, you know,
we kind of cut through some yards. I got back
to my house, took the shortcut, and then you know,
he was kind of tuckered out and he wanted to
(06:30):
kind of, you know, pop into that candy. And so
then I went home and gave out, gave out candy,
started a fire pitt to start a fire, pitting the driveway,
and turned on the TV, washing the baseball, and then
passed out candy. So I thought it was a great night.
It was kind of like the best of both worlds.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
That's how it goes. I have some wacky radio show
to do, so I was I was a little bit busy,
just a tiny bit busy. All right. I know how
you are and your preparation. It's well chronicled, well discussed
on this show before. Are You're all set ready to go?
Colts and the Steelers tomorrow?
Speaker 7 (07:05):
All set ready to go. In the fact, the last
hour or so, I started working on the falcons because
next week's gonna be a crazy week, going to Berlin,
some weird travel, you know, got some meetings at the
beginning of the week regarding travel and marketing events going on.
So my time's gonna be sort of diverted elsewhere, I think,
in an abnormal week coming up. So I said, hey,
(07:26):
I'm sitting here and watching football. Tomorrow is ready to go.
I'm gonna start working on the falcons, you know, save
myself some time later in the week. So that's that's
kind of how sick in the head I am, as
you know.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
And I love That's what I love about Well, it's
one of the things I love about you. You know that,
all right. So I always enjoy having you on for
a variety of reasons, not the least of which is
some of those factoids that people aren't aware of. So
I'm talking it to you. Dazzle me with some of
these facts that you're gonna bring out. No, you know
what I mean. You know exactly what I mean. Rick,
(08:01):
toss it to you.
Speaker 7 (08:03):
Well, I mean, this is this is a really interesting game.
I mean, the Colts offense is absolutely on fire now.
I mean they've scored thirty points, yes that eight games.
They are averaging the Colt set is on offense, Bob.
They are averaging over a field goal and a half
per possession on the season. Think about that. That is
(08:24):
the most points per possession in this century in the NFL.
That's better than the Colts under Peyton Manning. That's better
than the Patriots under Tom Brady. That's how efficient that
they have been. You know, right now, it's crazy to
say they've They've only punted sixteen times on the season.
(08:44):
And as the relights to tomorrow, there's a good chance
for this offense to keep on humming. I know it's
going to be on the road. It's going to be
really loud tomorrow here in Pittsburgh. But that being said,
Pittsburgh's defense it's not good. I mean, not only is
an not to Steel curtain, there's no curtain at all
in this Pittsburgh defense. Their thirtieth thirtieth in total defense,
(09:07):
they're dead last and passing defense. In fact, coming into
the game, they've allowed over four hundred and fifty total
yards and back to back games for the first time
in Steelers franchise history, all right, So there's there's gonna
be a good opportunity for the Colts to score points.
I think the big factor in this game is whether
or not the Colts defense can slow down Aaron Rodgers
(09:29):
enough to give the Colts offense some breathing room and
you know, win a game going away or at least
you know, comfortably in the second half and heading into
the fourth quarter. But yeah, I think that's gonna be
the big component of this game. And the secondary got
some kind of reinforcements today. Good news that Jalen Jones
was activated off of injured reserves, so his twenty one
(09:50):
day window coming off of IR was activated last week.
He's on the active roster. I wouldn't be surprised if
he starts tomorrow. And that's really good news because, as
you know we talked before Bob, the secondary for the Cold,
specifically that cornerback position just been ransacked with injuries. So
to get a key depth piece back in Jalen Jones
(10:11):
tomorrow is really big. He started every game last year,
had one hundred tackles, let all cornerbacks intact a year ago,
So I mean, this isn't just a guy This is
one of your you know, this is the guy that
you planned on starting at the beginning of the season.
So it's good to have him back.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
See, you did not disappoint. I mean those factories. I'm
just telling you, I get excited. I'm looking here, going, Okay,
Matt Taylor at ten o'clock here, this is what's gonna
be fun. Not that the rest of that's not gonna
be fun, but I'm just saying, you didn't disappoint. Can
you hang on, Hey, you still have time? Can you
hang on through this schoolboard update.
Speaker 8 (10:48):
I'm ready.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
We're gonna have more fun with Matt Taylor when we
come back after this schoolboard update on Indiana Sports Huck.

Speaker 9 (11:14):
Tonight's final score was the Indiana Pacers one hundred fourteen
the Golden State Warriors one hundred nine.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
That is exactly how it sounded all the Pacers Radio
Network with Mark Boyle on Corden Lingolnfelter with this Network
Indiana scoreboard update. The Pacers win one fourteen, one oh
nine over the Golden State Warriors, their first win of
the season. They're now one in five, one in two
at home. Golden State now falls to four and three
(11:41):
one and three on the road. Indiana was let in
scoring by Aaron Nei Smith thirty one points on a
fifty two percent shooting night from the field, forty five
percent from beyond the arc, and he hit all six
of his free throws. Pascal Siaalcom follow him with twenty
seven points on also a fifty two percent shooting night.
(12:01):
Indiana will be back in action coming up on Wednesday.
That game is against the Brooklyn Nets. The World Series
could come down to the Wires. The Blue Jays now
have a three to two league over the Los Angeles Dodgers,
heading in to the bottom of the sixth inning. College
football scores from earlier on today, the number two ranked
(12:26):
Indiana Hoosiers win fifty five to ten over Maryland. Notre
Dame takes down Boston College twenty five to ten. You
Windy over Quincy forty nine to three, handover over Bluffton
forty eight to zero. Also, Drake gets the best of
Butler by five, twenty four to nineteen, Marion over Saint Francis,
Illinois twenty eight to eleven, and lastly Anderson over Franklin
(12:51):
College by thirty four forty one to seven. Final score.
There don't forget coming up next IHSA Football Sectional Championships.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
Welcome back everybody. Patt Taylor back with us the voice
of the Colts, Colts and the Steelers tomorrow at one o'clock. Matt,
you've talked about, you know, maybe good news on the
injury front, but this is a seven to one Colts
team that it's amazing, and you know what, you're up
(13:29):
close and personal with this every single day. It illustrates.
It's a perfect illustration of how important your quarterback position
is and how important consistency, not turning the ball over,
accuracy with passing, complimentary ground game, those kinds of things.
But it starts with that quarterback spot. And they got
(13:52):
it right.
Speaker 7 (13:54):
No, without question. I mean, I think the nickname that
I personally have and I hope it catches on selfishly,
I call Daniel Jones. His nickname for me is mister
high Tide because he is rising the level of all
the boats around. Yeah, you know what, I mean and
that that's we've talked about this before. I mean, the
(14:14):
entire offense outside of Daniel Jones and Tyler Warren were
in place last year. You know, this this defense pretty
much the core of the defense has been here for
quite some time now, with before Fuckner and Grover Stewart
and Zire Franklin and Kenny Moore. And you know you
mentioned Jalen Jones coming back tomorrow. This will be his
(14:35):
his third year in this defense. So it's just it's
it's it speaks to how well the roster around the
quarterback has been built and the job that Chris Ballard
has done. It's just that it's been a carousel of
you know, missed opportunities I guess you would call it
at that quarterback position the last couple of years. And
Daniel Jones comes in, and I think he deserves the
(14:57):
most amount of credit. I mean, his his personality, there's
his character, his willingness to come in and he's played
with a chip on his shoulder, but willingness to buy
into the culture and to bond with all of his
teammates on both sides of the ball, you know, be
the glue guy inside the locker.
Speaker 8 (15:13):
Room.
Speaker 7 (15:13):
That's hard to do when you know he's the new
guy as of this year, right signed in March. But
there's no question that when you don't turn the football
over and you've got one hundred passer rating an eight
down nine games, and then you've you've got just you're
you're so balanced, and you're so equally dangerous running the
football and throwing the football. And you know, Jonathan Taylor's
(15:36):
he's already had he already, he's already has produced a
mega season, but he's on pace for maybe his biggest
mega season to date. I don't think he does that
without Daniel Jones because he is lightening up the defense,
He's spacing out the box. Guys can't just sell out
and hope to stop the run like they did at
the end of the twenty twenty three season, certainly like
(15:58):
they did at the end of the twenty twenty one season.
I think you're seeing Jonathan Taylor be way more efficient
because of the passing game, because of the presence of
Daniel Jones. Case in point, last week, Bobby has over
one hundred and fifty rushing yards on twelve carries. He
averaged twelve and a half yards per carry last week
because the threat of Jones in the passing game is
(16:19):
there to open up big chunk runs for Taylor in
the ground.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
What's the challenge tomorrow? What concerns you about this matchup
besides you know, the quarterback for their Staelers. What's the
concern that you have going into this game.
Speaker 7 (16:38):
Well, honestly, I think it's where the game is being
played is the biggest challenge for me, because objectively, I
think the Colts are the better team. I think they're
better on both sides of the ball. You know, Aaron Rodgers,
I get it right, He's still Aaron Rodgers, but he's
forty one years old. He's not going to take over
a game and throw it fifty times like he, you know,
maybe was accustomed to in the past. I just think
(17:00):
this is a very proud franchise that's kind of reeling
a little bit. They're going to have a high sense
of urgency tomorrow. They are four and three, but they've
lotted back to back games. Like I said in the
last segment, their defense is given up a boatload of
yards and points right at each of the last two games,
and they're kind of hanging on a thread they're still
leaving the AFC North, but not by much. Everybody else
(17:22):
in that division the AFC North has a negative point
differential except for the Steelers, who they are a neutral team.
They've given up one hundred and seventy five points and
they've scored one hundred and seventy five points so far
on the year. But it's one of the best home
field advantages in all of sports. It's going to be loud.
The fans are going to be into it. They would
love to prove a point and beat the great seven
(17:44):
and one Colts coming into this game and get a
signature win. So the Colts have to be on their
p's and q's, as they say. They have to negotiate
the noise, don't turn the football over because they can't communicate,
and things like that. If Colts just play a clean
brand of football, like they've done more often than not
so far this year, I don't think there's any way
(18:05):
that they can lose this football game.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
All right, I'm calling my bookmaker right now. I heard
it right from you. So get you in trouble with you,
get you, get you in trouble with the with the NFL,
the NBA, every it seems to be going around. I'll
make that call all right, Matt Taylor, thanks for bringing
up bringing your a game. As always with the factoids,
(18:31):
you don't disappoint. You're still my favorite. I love everything
about it. You are the pride of Franklin Collach. Thank
god one of us is. And I'm glad that you
I'm glad that you have fun tomorrow. Thanks for doing this.
Speaker 7 (18:45):
All right, my pleasure, Bob. Always always good to be
with you anytime, and can't wait till our next conversation.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
I'll look forward to it. Thanks a lot, Matt, you
got it, joy and Indy Pacers beat Golden State and
I won fourteen one oh nine with me to talk
about it. Incredibly important member of the team, Pad Boyling, Hello,
Pat Hi, Bob, Are you not as well as you guys? Are?
(19:14):
I know that that's a big win for a lot
of reasons. Obviously, certainly is you know.
Speaker 10 (19:19):
I think most people know the story of this team
so far this year, albeit very briefly into twenty twenty five,
twenty six. I mean they've just been totally ravaged by injuries.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
The Pacers.
Speaker 10 (19:30):
Yeah, Tyre's Aliberton. Of course that injury was unfortunately, you know,
in a massive spotlight. But Andrew mhart TJ McConnell, I mean,
the Pacers at one point were missing eight of the
fifteen guys on their regular rosters, so they have been
down and down bad. Even with all of that, most
of the first five games coming into tonight, I thought
(19:51):
their competitiveness and competitive level was pretty good. They gave
themselves a chance to win three of them. Tonight, you're
looking at the same kind of game you're You're you're
within striking distance in the fourth quarter, but you're trailing,
and tonight the script was slipped. I mean, Indiana was
terrific down the stretch twenty one to five, and obviously
a run like that to close the game is typically
(20:12):
going to get it done. But when you hold the
Warriors Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green, et cetera to
five points over the final six plus minutes, Wow, that's
really a spectacular defensive effort. And that's how they got
it done here tonight.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
That's beyond spectacular. To be honest, you just wrap we
all know, I mean, the names you just listed, we
all know they're capable of taking over a game single handily,
and that's per player they can do that at To
limit the entire group to that amount of points in
that span of time is a tremendous, tremendous effort.
Speaker 10 (20:51):
And if you look at Steph Curry, who obviously is
the number one player you think of when you think
of Warriors basketball and maybe even basketball in of itself
in the twenty ten twenty twenties era, I mean, the
Pacers did a fantastic job on him. He had I
had twenty three points, but I believe that was on
nineteen or twenty shot attempts. He was a minus twenty
(21:11):
one on the game, which, listen, I don't love plus
minus on a game in game out perspective. But where
I think it was significant tonight is it just felt
like every time Curry stepped on the floor, the Pacers
actually were the better team and started to go on
a run. And maybe some of that's coincidence. You're you're
just so used to the opposite of that with Curry happening,
right he comes on the floor, the Warriors going to run,
(21:33):
and then they try to survive the minutes with him
off the floor. But the Pacers did a great job
against him, and really you know the name that most
people don't know, but was fantastic tonight. Quinton Jackson. He's
a two way player. He's starting point guard because the
Pacers don't have their three point guards, right is a
guy that you know, potentially, if the Pacers can get healthy,
(21:53):
going to be playing a lot of minutes for the
Noblesville Boom in the G League. And that's not a
discredit to his talent, it's just how how bad the
Pacers are from an injury perspective right now. He has
a double double. But also I thought they had a
fantastic job on Steph Curry. And when you can say
the sentence and look somebody straight in the face and say,
Quinton Jackson outplayed Steph Curry, that was absolutely the case
(22:13):
tonight and a really nice element for a young guy
who's been playing a lot of G League minutes and
deserved an opportunity like this and shined when he got it.
Speaker 1 (22:23):
That's fantastic. Hey, can you hang on through this short break?
Speaker 10 (22:27):
You got it?
Speaker 1 (22:29):
Pat Boiler and I will come back and talk more
about the Pacers their big win tonight over Golden State.
O excuse me, one fourteen one h nine get that
first win, get that gorilla off their backs, and they
can move forward. We all know they're depleted, but they're
battling through it. We'll come back after the school board
(22:50):
update and talk more Pacer basketball on Indiana Sports Talk.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
This Indiana Sports Talk scoreboard update is brought to you

Speaker 3 (23:13):
I'm Corbyn Linga Felter with this network Indiana scoreboard update.
In the World Series, the Blue Jays currently lead the
Dodgers forward to two top of the seventh inning. The
Blue Jays looking to take home the World Series title.
In Game number seven, coming up tomorrow, the Indianapolis Colts
take on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Daniel Jones, quarterbacking the Indianapolis offense,
(23:38):
spoke on that Steelers defense, the.
Speaker 11 (23:41):
Way they play, you know, I think that's always that's
always the thing when you when you think about the
Pittsburgh Steelers as their aggressive, fast flowing, you know, downhill
defense and how they want to play kind of the
mindset and the culture that they have there.
Speaker 3 (23:56):
So you know a lot of respect for.
Speaker 11 (23:59):
Them and and their group, and you know, we'll we'll
work all week to.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Be ready for That's Daniel Jones on Colts dot Com
speaking of quarterbacks. Aaron Rodgers is quarterback and the Steelers offense.
Here's what Colts player DeForest Buckner thinks about him.
Speaker 12 (24:16):
He still got the arm talent, you know, so got
a canon for an arm Obviously he was well respected. Yeah,
I mean he gets the boss of his playmakers, makes
the right checks to the line of scrimmage. You know,
he wants to diagnose the coverage and know what you're in.
And yeah, I mean we got to do a good
job with you know, obviously some disguises or whatever whatever
we're running and execute because he'll make you pay.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
Now, this is a road game for the Indianapolis Colts,
and when you think of Pittsburgh, you think a blue collar,
blue blood style playing. Rookie tied end Tyler Warren spoke
on playing in that kind of environment.
Speaker 11 (24:47):
It is another week, right, and you got to focus
on what you do. But it is cool to you know,
when you get there, take it in.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
Maybe you know, see where you're at. Stuff like that,
but not making.
Speaker 3 (24:54):
Something that's Warren on colts dot Com. Colts and Steelers
kick off off at one o'clock tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
Welcome Back Everybody Soccer with Pad Borland about the Pacers
Big one fourteen one oh nine win over Golden State
taken on Milwaukee on Monday. He's kind of an interesting
night Monday night down at Gamers, don't you think, Pat things?
I mean, the albous storyline at plays should be a fun.
Speaker 10 (25:26):
Night, no question should be. I wish the Pacers were,
you know, admittedly a little bit more for full health
for a matchup like this. You're, of course about referencing
Miles Turner's first game back with the Pacers. Turner, who
left in free agency. You know, I thought he had
one of the great you know, careers for a pacer
over the last right for a couple of decades or so.
(25:49):
But it definitely ended on a little bit of a
sour note. You know, I think the front office here
with Pacers felt like, you know, they were the rug
was pulled out a little bit from underneath them in
the negotiation perspective. And you know, I think there's a
couple of things that Miles Turner has said that listen,
I know him very well he's he's a really good guy,
(26:10):
but the optics haven't always been great with what he
has said in the last few months, and I think
he probably would prefer to rephrase a couple of things
that he said. That said, you know, when you go
from one team to another, and that happens to be
kind of the current rival, which is the Bucks of
the Pacers. You know, you're going to lose some fans,
gain some animosity, and I'll.
Speaker 1 (26:32):
Be really interested to see what.
Speaker 10 (26:34):
This looks like. You know, I think fans are probably
all over the spectrum, Bob. I think there's a lot
of people that look at the ten years that he
had here, and you know, he went through a lot
and stuck with it for a long time and put
together a really nice career. But I think it has
a little bit of a sour taste in terms of
how his time in Indiana ended. So it'll be interesting
for sure. Talked with Isaiah Jackson, one of the Pacers centers,
(26:57):
in the locker room just before calling you. He admitted,
you know, he's looking forward to going up against him,
a former surate, so it should be an interesting night.
I wish the Pacers were getting them at full strength.
But listen, coming off a win against Golden State, as
we were just talking without being at full strength. You know,
that's the type of thing that I think can can
can carry a lot of confidence into a game like Monday.
Speaker 1 (27:19):
I don't think there's any question. I think nothing helps
more than winning. Pat boiling from the Pacers Pacers one
fourteen one oh nine over Golden State taking on Milwaukee
Monday night. Pat, is always great to catch up with you.
Thanks so much for your time. Have a great weekend.
Speaker 10 (27:38):
The Pacers hadn't won until I called in, so you
can consider yourself the different hunger.
Speaker 13 (27:42):
Like already already do. But I'm glad you. I'm glad
you caught it. Thanks Pat. Have a fun weekend, Okay,
Greg Regstraw.
Speaker 1 (27:54):
Joins me, hardest working man in the business, the best
at what he does. I could go on and on,
but you've heard me say it before, all right, Greg,
STATEHSAA State Soccer Championships. It's not like you had a
free weekend at all. Some tremendous action down on campus today, correct.
Speaker 8 (28:16):
So I had the last two games of the day,
which were the three eight championships. The three A Boys
Championship won by Carmel. It's their first soccer state championship
since two thousand and six. On the boys side, the
Carmel girls then played hammeled In Southeastern, a rematch what
was the state finals matchup in twenty eleven. This time
hammeled In Southeastern got the win one nil. Hammeled In
(28:39):
Southeastern finishes the season twenty two wins, one draw and
no losses. They outscored their opponents by a margin of
one TOHO four to six over the course of the season.
Numerous major Division one recruits on that AHC team. But
credit to Carmel. I mean, again, they're a really good
(29:00):
team too. But I thought they were just as aggressive
and had just as much of the possession as hs did.
One kind of mistake at the back in the last
six minutes led the only HSSE goal and that was
the difference in the Royals claiming their first girl soccer
state championship.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
Those stats rattled off are staggering. I mean they're almost unbelievable.
Speaker 8 (29:24):
Quite frankly, well, it is that soccer that has played
in Hamilton County is so good, especially on the girls side.
It is on the boys' side too. Again, Carlins from
Hambleton County won a state championship. Think about how dominant
Noblesville has been in terms of kind of on both
the boys and the girl's side. This HSSE team thought
(29:49):
this could have been them last year they ran into
Noblesville in the sectional final. Last year Miller's won that
one by a goal to Dill. So this has been
a motivation that's a motivating factor for this HSC team
over the course of the last you know, three hundred
and sixty four days getting into this one. So it
is such a soccer hotbed because of Grant Park, because
(30:11):
of all the various academy teams and programs, and again,
at the end of the day, once you include sophomores
and juniors that will likely end up playing college soccer,
you're probably looking at somewhere in the neighborhood of fifteen
Division one players that played in that girls state championship today.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
Uh huh, sikes, yikes? All right? Who won the earlier
days the one and two?
Speaker 9 (30:41):
All right?
Speaker 8 (30:41):
So the one A girls was won by Heritage Christian.
The first game of the day two A Girls won
by Michel Mary and beat Park Twotor three nil. Then
you go back to last night, Darren Katholic in a
thirteen round tennalty shootout beat Bishop Chatard Wow and then
Fort Wayne's Blackhawk Christian and they went over Indianapolis, Asina
(31:02):
in the one A Championship last night.
Speaker 1 (31:06):
Fifteen round penalty shootout is only.
Speaker 8 (31:12):
Only thirteen and usually the standards five, so you know, yes.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
Yikes, has that ever happened before in the IHSA tournament.
Speaker 8 (31:23):
I would assume that is the longest penalty shootout in
the years that I have been involved. Thinking of all
the various games I have done, I think I've been
a part of two crown point one of the first
years in the championship back at Kune Stadium maybe twenty ten,
and then I had a girl's penalty shootout in the
(31:43):
years that it was at Fisher's between Dwinger and Modern
Day that Dinger ended up winning. Actually Twinger in Cathedral
the Dwinger ended up winning. The longest one that I
have done was this year in an Indie eleven match
and it went eight rounds. So yes, once you get
(32:04):
to where you're starting to rotate through your lineup a
starting time, like when the next round you're pulling like
you know, moms and dads out of the stands state penalty. Right,
that's a pretty long one.
Speaker 1 (32:18):
All right. I know you've had a long day. So
we're when are we working? We're working this week or
next week.
Speaker 8 (32:24):
I got a game. I know that you're working this week.
I'm in Milwaukee on Thursday. I have more soccer. Maybe
I'll see more penalty shootouts because I have the Horizon
League semi finals in the ESPN plus. So I hate
the fact that I'm missing the home opener and the
opener of the Ben Hollitt era as I you in
host to Long Island. You and I get to work
(32:44):
together on Veterans Day on November the eleventh at the
Courtebe Coliseum where the readers become leaders program.
Speaker 9 (32:52):
When I.
Speaker 8 (32:54):
I you, Columbus and the Jaguars might score one hundred
and fifty that day.
Speaker 1 (32:58):
That at the gotta be great joking. I just think
the cool thing about Ben Hallett and his approach to
this is you I won't have anything to do. You'll
be too busy calling the game. There won't be any
time for me to talk. And I'm good with it
because I don't get paid. Bob.
Speaker 8 (33:12):
You got to remember that's on radio, apologize to you
and tell you, yeah, I'll talk to you during the
next time out.
Speaker 1 (33:22):
But I'm still not.
Speaker 8 (33:24):
Tell the story. You get to describe all of the madness.
I just spackle in the details.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
Yeah, we'll do the best. Who can. All right, brother,
have a great wee can have fun tomorrow. I know
you're gonna have a great time with the Colts post
game call in show. You are the best at what
you do. It's a heavy burden to carry, but you
carry it pretty well. I'll talk to you soon.
Speaker 8 (33:46):
I learned it from you, buddy.
Speaker 1 (33:47):
Thank you. Yeah, all right, there's joy in Franklin. Not
because I'm here doing my show, that's part of it,
but also because Franklin Cowich picks up a win today
the Grizzlies beat Anderson forty one to seven with me
head coach of the Grizzlies, Mike Leonard, coach, congratulations, thanks
(34:07):
so much for the call.
Speaker 9 (34:10):
It's great to be with you, and I love my
two favorite personalities, Bob Lovell and Greg Rakestraw. It's great
to hear you guys.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
Well, you're very kind. He does have personality. That's a
good thing. I'm still trying to find mine. Somewhere. I
know it's out there, but I'm trying to find it.
Speaker 9 (34:28):
And thank you for the you know, the congratulations on
the victory we had against Anderson. It was.
Speaker 8 (34:35):
It was a great football game.
Speaker 9 (34:36):
Last thing about Rakestraw, I'm a little myth that he
hasn't called me up to go to Skyline Chili lately.
We've done that several times in past. But no, hey,
today was a great day for the Grizzlies here in Franklin,
traveled by Anderson.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
Yes, sair coach. I'm sorry to interrupt. I need you
to hang on through this scoreboard up did Okay? You
got it, my friend, We'll come back and talk football.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
This Indiana Sports Talk scoreboard update is brought to you
by Quality Supply and Tool in Indianapolis, Bloomington, Jeffersonville, and
Lafayette Think outside the Box store Quality Supply Andtool dot Com.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
Scoreboard Update number twenty one Michigan and Purdue has officially
gone final and Purdue has lost their seventh game of
the season. Michigan takes down Purdue twenty one to sixteen
tonight in college football. Other college football scores from the
evening include number two IU improving the nine to zero,
fifty five to ten over Maryland. This is their second
(35:41):
straight nine and OH start to the season, first time
in program history that they have had back to back
nine and OH starts, and both have come under head
coach Curt Signetti. Number twelve, Notre Dame takes down Boston
College twenty five to ten. Today, you Indy over Quincy
nine to three. Indiana Wesleyan won an eight point battle
(36:04):
between Taylor and that game finished at fifty six to
forty eight. Handover over Bluffton forty eight to nothing, Drake
over Butler twenty four to nineteen, Marion twenty eight, Saint
Francis eleven, and Anderson takes down Franklin College today forty
one to seven. In the World Series Game seven, the
(36:29):
Blue Jays still lead forty two over the Dodgers. In
the top of the eighth inning with one out, the
Indiana Pacers get their first win of the season. They
win one fourteen toin to nine over the Golden State Warriors.
They will be back in action coming up on Wednesday.
That game will be against the Brooklyn Nets. In this game, however,
(36:49):
you can thank aaron Ne Smith thirty one points on
the night on a fifty two percent from the field
shooting numbers. I'm Gordan Lingefilter.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
Welcome back everybody. We were talking with Mike Lenard, the
football coach at Franklin College, about their forty one to
seven win over Anderson this afternoon. Great day for you
and the guys, coach, and I know you relieve the
kids can feel better about themselves. And you know, the
(37:27):
buying's been there, They've been fantastic, just haven't been rewarded
like they need to be until today.
Speaker 9 (37:34):
You're right on all points there, Bob. It was a
rewarding day. Good to get back into the win column.
The guys are feeling good about themselves again. And yeah,
it was a great day up and Anderson for Franklin
College Grizzlies.
Speaker 1 (37:50):
You know the one thing, you know, it's hard. You know,
it's a return. You're doing something most coaches haven't done,
and that's go back and and while I applaud the move,
I'm happy for you, happy for the college, it's a
hard thing to do and you're learning you've already figured
out and you already knew even though it hadn't been
(38:12):
a long time. It's never easy to go back and literally,
you're starting over and that takes a little bit of time.
Speaker 9 (38:21):
So true. I was the head coach here at Franklin
for seventeen years from three to nineteen, and then stepped
away to do some other things in life for five years.
But this wasn't part of my life plan. But one
of the high school coaches in Indiana told me one time,
if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.
And anyway, I was asked, you know, to come back,
(38:44):
and I haven't moved at all. I live right on
the edge of campus here overlooking the baseball field that
you used to coach on here at Franklin College, right.
Speaker 1 (38:54):
And I want you to know I never got tossed out.
Here's the ironing. I got tossed out of a bunch
of basketball games, never tossed out of a baseball game.
Never well, and I think the yumparts hated me so
much they didn't want to reward me, so congratulate that.
Speaker 9 (39:11):
But any Yeah, so it's been a fun transition to
come back, and there are some new things that are
different in college football nowadays. But I love coaching this team.
Speaker 1 (39:26):
And they love having you back. So one thing you've
always done is you've been able to find people to
put the ball in the end zone, and you certainly
did it today forty one points. You have to be
pretty ecstatic about the offensive performance of your guys today.
Speaker 9 (39:42):
Marshall Camicheck at quarterback, let us you know, real quick
right out the gate, a couple of touchdowns, and we
had a good balanced attack.
Speaker 7 (39:52):
All day to day.
Speaker 9 (39:53):
Equal amounts around and pass and yardage was about equal
as well. And at a twenty seven to seven lead
at half, and we're able to score fourteen more points
in the second half seal the win. And like you said,
a lot of guys contributed. We had five receivers catch
(40:17):
four passes or more so good good job by Marshall
spreading the ball around, and Jordan Fonda caught a couple
of touchdown passes. Trevor Trevor Winkles had three touchdowns on
the ground, and our defense played extremely well as well.
Speaker 1 (40:36):
Ought. You're at home next weekend for Senior Day against Bluffing.
That should be a great day for you.
Speaker 9 (40:44):
Yeah, looking forward to honoring the fourteen senior football guys
and a couple extra cheerleaders and managers and whatnot. That's
always a special day for the seniors and their family
last home game, and yeah, with two games on the
regular season remaining, bluffing at home and then down Hanover
for the victory Bell game. In the final game.
Speaker 1 (41:08):
Franklin College wins today forty one seven over Anderson. Mike Lynard.
Great to have you back. I got to have you
now on Saturday nights because my show will suffer ratings
wise if I don't have you back on the air.
Speaker 7 (41:23):
Count on it, Bob.
Speaker 9 (41:24):
Thank you kindly for reaching out to me tonight.
Speaker 1 (41:26):
You're welcome, Mike, Thanks for doing it. Good luck next week.
Thank you kindly, You're welcome. Thanks Mike Lendard, football coach
at Franklin Grizzlies get a w today over Anderson. We're
going to talk with Matthew Bold from Hannover coming up
in the next hour. We're going to continue to talk
about football. Paul Condrey and I'll talk high school football
(41:49):
in the next hour. A lot coming up. Stay with us,
short break, we'll come back, talk some more ball. This
is Indiana Sports song. Welcome back, This is India's sports
(42:14):
uf Kurbin Kurbin, Corbyn lingoln Felter, Sorry about that, Corbyn,
all right? Catch me up on the World Series. Brother,
it's starting to get interesting now.
Speaker 3 (42:23):
Yes it is, coach. One run is the difference in
this game. Bottom of the eighth inning, four to three,
blue Jays still over the Dodgers.
Speaker 1 (42:32):
Oh this is how it ought to be, don't you think?
I think this is. And this has been a great series.
I mean it really has been. It's been fantastic. Now
you have the drama obviously with Kershaw and his career,
but still, how about the blue Jays? Just literally you're
(42:53):
going against the odds and a chance to win it?
Speaker 3 (42:56):
All right, coaching? I mean, the Dodgers were coming into
this season as the favorites to repeat, and the Blue
Jays are standing in their way. They are literally just
six outs away from ending this game and going in
staying home as World Series champions in Toronto.
Speaker 1 (43:17):
Unbelievable. Okay, all right, what's happening coach tomorrow? What do
you think it's gonna got a W? Do we put
penciling in another W with this group?
Speaker 3 (43:29):
I like to say yes, But here's the thing. They
have not won in Pittsburghton's two thousand and eight. This
Steelers team is a blue blood style team. Rogers is
forty one years old, but he's still playing like he
was when he was thirty five. And again, I just
go back to the fact that Indianapolis has not won
(43:52):
in Pittsburgh since two thousand and eight. But as the
Colts have shown this year, they're beating the trends of
this season. They had never right in Week one since
twenty fourteen. They hadn't had to to and ozh start
since two thousand and nine, I think is what it was.
So I am I am very positive, but at the
(44:12):
same time, I'm kind of a little worried about this
team going on the road into Pittsburgh and playing in
that environment.
Speaker 1 (44:22):
Come on, now, we need we need you to be positive.
Your positive vibes are you know, we need that, We
all need that. I'm with you, though, But look, here's
what I like. This is a group that's played consistently
all year long. Love Jonathan Taylor, love Daniel Jones. I
(44:45):
like the fact that you know they've they've done what
they need to do defensively, there's a reason why they've
only lost one game. They're pretty good, and so we'll see.
It's a it's a fun It's an absolutely fun story,
right Corn coming up. Corbyn's coming up Top of the Hour,
and another top of the hour scoreboard update. I want
to remind everyone in the eleven o'clock hour, we're gonna
(45:09):
talk with Matthew Ball, the football coach at Hanover. They
get a w Today. We're also going to spend some
time with Paul Condrey from the Regional Radio Sports Network
and the Indiana Football Digest. Mister Condrey and I are
going to talk about last night's sectional semi final matchups
(45:31):
and look ahead to sectional championships around the state. That's
where we are, so make sure you join us for
this next hour scoreboard update coming up soon. This is
Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk.
