Speaker 1 (04:40):
Welcome back everyone on Bob Lovel. This is Indiana Sports Talk.
We returned to Jared Lewis of INDIANASRN. He has the
call of Noblesville's twenty one six win over Mount Vernon. Jarrett,
thank you for waiting so much. Tell me how the
Millers are able to win this game?
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Well, it was the very first offense to play the
game for Mountain Vernon. They had a bobble snap. They
were at their own twenty after the kickoff, went of
the into the end zone for a touchback and the
Millers jumped on it. So they started off their first
drive with great field position already not to start, you
want to see if you're Mount Vernon, and then in
(05:18):
two plays they punch it in. Noah Shinkle, junior running
back for Noblesville. He's proven to be their leading tailback
after the team didn't really have a lead back last year,
kind of a running back by committee type of situation,
and Noah Shinkle the junior got it in for their
(05:39):
first score. And then after that, neither team could really
do much of anything. It was a whole lot of defense,
a lot of punts, a lot of penalties to talk
about too.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
Those will be.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
You know, big issues. Come come Monday for their video practice,
so we'll watch over the huddle film and all that
sort of thing. But the running game started to come
around in the second half. It was seven to zero
at halftime. The running game for Noblesville started to pick
up with Shinkel. He finished the game fifteen carries sixty
(06:12):
five yards and Ethan Clark kind of a team to
paceback a little shorter doc here can fit through those gaps.
He had ten carries for fifty two yards. So the
two combined over one hundred yards rushing, and they really
started to pick things up in the third quarter. Actually
Noblesville had a twelve play drive where they didn't throw
(06:32):
the ball once, they just ran it down Mount Vernon's
throat and Shinkle ended up end of the end zone
for another touchdown. He had two on the night, and
then their third score actually came from their second string
quarterback Woody Corey, who came in for the junior Winsor
Hutchins who got the start, only had ten pasth attempts
(06:53):
all game. Like I said, the running game was really key,
the offensive line working hard for Noblesville ultimately getting this
twenty one six win. They didn't score Mount Vernon until
the last play of the game, and that was their
second string team.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
Out there tonight in impressive fashion, noble Zille with a
twenty one six win over Mount Vernon. Good win for
new coach John Hebert, a wonderful win for them. From
INDIANNSRN Jarrett Lewis Jarrett, thanks for the call, have a
great weekend.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
Thanks coach, appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Thank you very much. Edgewood beats Mitchell tonight thirty eight
nothing with me. Edgewood's head coach, Scott Fisher, coach, thanks
so much for the call and congratulations on an impressive
win tonight.
Speaker 5 (07:41):
Thanks for having me on, coach. I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
You're welcome anytime you shut somebody out, and you're more
than welcome to join me, coach. Now that doesn't have
to be it doesn't have to be a precondition of
joining me. You're welcome to call me anytime. But I
especially like talking to guys who win.
Speaker 5 (08:01):
I appreciate it. If that's if that's the little testa shutout,
it hasn't happened a lot, so.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Well, I'm glad. I'm glad you're here. Let's start with
that shutout. I mean, how about your defensive coordinator and
those kids tonight?
Speaker 5 (08:18):
Yeah, coaching staff did a great job preparing those guys,
held them to one hundred and thirty two yards, stuffed
the running game pretty good, and got after him in
the passing game. Just really silent effort on their part.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
You know what, Coach, it starts on the defensive side.
I know you've probably preached that time and time again,
and it's kind of fun. It's kind of fun to
see kids go out there and have that kind of success. Uh,
And after all the things have been buying into to
get to this point, Yeah, we've this a.
Speaker 5 (08:50):
Group of kids. We started sixteen sophomores last year and
one freshman, and they're all juniors and seniors now, and
they've done nice job buying into what we're doing. They
worked hard in the weight room in the off season.
UH coached the staffs and worked really hard with them
and got them prepared, and they did a nice job
(09:10):
in Week one.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
All right, let's brag about some of these kids. Tell
me who plays well tonight.
Speaker 5 (09:16):
Lincoln gets defense, Ben Junior, he had three tackles, UH,
several of them for a loss in a sack. Big
gunner Perry, a free safety, came down hill, made a
bunch of big plays for us. We had a cornerback
Jackson Collier, came up with big hit. UH. Really set
(09:37):
the tone early in the second quarter. Really played well
for us. Dylan Wickens outside linebacker, made a bunch of
stops out in the flats as well. Just a really
good overall off by those guys.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
All right, who you playing next week? Coach?
Speaker 5 (09:53):
We've got a South Spencer next week.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
It's a good challenge. It's a good challenge for you.
Speaker 5 (09:59):
Yeah, very very tough program, playing a really good football program.
Our football conference. It will be our first time going
up against them is certainly my first time. But everything
I've heard is they've got a very good reputation playing
hard nos football.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
Well your kids play that way, it should be a
great football game. Scott Fisher from Edgewood. They beat Mitchell
thirty eight nothing tonight. Coach, thanks so much for the call.
Good luck next week. Thanks coach, I appreciate thank you.
Coming up, school board update and then more high school

Speaker 2 (10:34):

Speaker 1 (12:19):
Welcome back everyone. High school football tonight, Indian Creek twenty
to thirteen winners over Western High School with me the
head coach. Indian Creek coach Max Gooden, coach, congratulations on
a great win tonight.
Speaker 6 (12:33):
I appreciate it. It was about the most Week one
win that we could have possibly had. We scored on
a we scored on a blocked pint, we scored on
a reverse, and we scored on second and forty. Oh wow,
the very week one win. And I'll tell you what
Westerns record from last year. Man, they played their hearts out,
They got some ballplayers. They're gonna run multiple games this year.
(12:55):
So very impressed by coach Colby and what they've done
in their short time there.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
Well Hill, he is, as you know, and I think
a lot of people in our state understand, a tremendous
football coach. Dad's a tremendous football coach. There's football in
that family. Uh, And you knew you were going to
get challenged, and we all understand one of the keys
in football is you've got a big plays, you have
(13:19):
to eliminate him. If you're on the defense and you
have to be able to generate him on the offensive side,
and big plays want it for you tonight.
Speaker 6 (13:27):
One hundred and so proud of our kids were sticking together,
and you know, it's how we went out in the section.
All I kind of told people all week it's kind
of like we're facing the Boogeyman week one, because you know,
thirty two personnel, two hour bus or ride all those things,
and we didn't we you know, we practiced it all
summer and we just said, listen, we're gonna we're gonna
confront this face to face week one. And so proud
(13:49):
of our kids getting the last minute when on the
road and you know, heading back now that your faluger
from Cocomo.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
So well get you know what, coach, that makes us
even more impressive. So tell me who these stars are
tonight for you.
Speaker 6 (14:04):
Jackson Raimi had a heck of a game. He had
an interception and he scored long touchdown for US. Drew Pingleton,
our running back, had one hundred and fourteen yards rushing,
and Brandon Die for US had two interceptions and blocked
the pine scored as well. So some big time performances
and kids that were really really proud of and just
(14:27):
really impressed with our kids for staying together as a
team and battling it out in tough circumstances.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
All right, tell me who you play next week.
Speaker 6 (14:35):
We've got Greenwood at home.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
Yeah, I like, I like. I love Johnson County matchups.
I live. I'm right up the road from you, coach.
I live in Franklin and so okay, so from my house,
if I open up my door, my front door, I'm
sure I can hear the celebration when you guys get
back Intrafougar. So it's about right. I appreciate the call. Congratulations,
(15:02):
good luck next.
Speaker 6 (15:03):
Week, absolutely, and thank you for all you do for
Indiana High School.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
Very kind, thanks very much. How about tonight? What a
great game Triton Central beating Batesville two really really good
football teams eleven to ten. Is the final? Here, Tim Abel,
the head coach of Triton Central, joins me. Coach, thank
you so much for the call and congratulations on a
thrilling win tonight.
Speaker 5 (15:26):
Boy, it was a.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
Tough, hard, fuck game.
Speaker 7 (15:28):
They were able to score first on a long run
in the first half, and in the half we were
able to go and score touchdown on a Braydon Brown
run who had over our und yards rushing again and
for it was like a minute left and a half
and they called time out and luckily we were going
(15:52):
to run something inside and they were all in there.
They called the time out. We went back to the
sacks name and play we scored down on and they
hit him four people hitting and the three yard line
and he took him all the end. So so the
bring class, he's a six to one and ninety found kid.
(16:12):
It's a great hybrid athlete, right and so uh that
put it ahead eight to seven. The reason I went
for that this early, I wasn't sure we were going
to score again rightly, maybe a field goal, So I
took a big gamble. I know the coaches weren't all
for it, but I just I just sometimes you have
that field. So we got to take seven. They thick
(16:32):
like a thirty seven thirty eight yard could go to
go ahead ten to eight. We take it down and
less than two minutes to go in the game, and
they stepped this a little bit and we kick a
thirty yard field go dead middle. We have among us
weapon our kicker and put our Nick Turmel and play soccer.
(16:54):
He touched left footed. He kicks right footed.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
Which is pretty unique.
Speaker 7 (17:00):
But also he averaged like forty eight yards of punt tonight.
Of course they didn't catch some of them right so hard.
He's suits the weapon that you know, we could play
a little bit more conservative with many the twenty a
little more conservative whenever fourth or third and long, We're like, okay,
we can pun at forty five yards, let's do that.
(17:23):
So any talent, one of our hardest workers. He actually
was a captain for the game because of his out
of season workout. They can so just out of him.
But great games with mobile kids. We learned a lot
of great intangibles tonight, right, and we grew a lot
as a team. Not satisfied in any way way too
(17:45):
many buildings. We put ourselves in a bad situation. We
have a new junior quarterback. This first game, we put
him in the horrible situations. The lay we were mind
us change and just it's tough to do. So anyway,
we'll grow from We got Harvey, I guess you do
next week with him on the heights. And you know
the curshoners, the two coach curshioners are there.
Speaker 5 (18:09):
So now we got to go against.
Speaker 7 (18:10):
The six, a Hall of fame coach and his son,
so we're looking forward to it that we are very
apprehensive as what we're gonna face.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
Tim Abel, the head coach at Triton Central, a thrilling
win eleven to ten over Batesville. I've never heard of
a kicker who punts one foot and kicks field goals
with the other foot. This has been a tremendous night
for me on the show and Tam thanks so much
of the call and good luck next week.
Speaker 7 (18:40):
Thank you, Mauch Bob.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
Hall of Famer Russ Radkey joins me from Knox High School.
Tonight they beat a great North Judson team thirty eight
to six. Coach, thank you so much for the call.
Congratulations to you and your kids. Tonight.
Speaker 8 (18:56):
Hey, I finally found the full number to call you guys,
he said, I mean, then you tell me you got
a new phone number.
Speaker 9 (19:04):
What I was called to a bar or.
Speaker 8 (19:06):
Whatever for the last five or years, coach. Let me
tell you.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
Yeah, I'm glad you're here. It doesn't matter how long
we have to wait. And one of these days I'll
tell you the story about the phone numbers. It's gonna
take a while, but I'm just I'm glad you're called.
And hey, Nord Judson won a championship a year ago.
That's a good football team.
Speaker 8 (19:29):
No doubt about. His team has been working really hard
in the weight rooms in the summer and conditioning, and
our coaching staffs and and everything kind of laid it together.
Ended up thirty eight or six. They scored on the
very last play of the game with a run o'clock.
But the point here is that great offense. Three hundred
(19:50):
and fifty nine yards on the total offense for us,
and three hundred and nine of that came on the ground.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
You got a bunch of guys back from last year, right.
Speaker 8 (20:00):
Well, we've got thirty plus returning letters. Yeah, and he's
got good numbers forty five or so. We've got a
good freshman class that really makes us work hard during practice,
and the numbers are great right now. And so this
could be a pretty good run for Knox for quite
a while.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
All right, who plays well, let's brag about some of
these kids.
Speaker 8 (20:22):
Well, I'm sure the leader in the state that everybody's
looking at it, of course, is Miles mcgloughlin. And with
Miles doing his job and doing his assignments. Very first
play of the game, he popped it for a touchdown
and put it in from sixty four yards out. We
ended up with a tremendous effort for rushing for a team,
(20:48):
but I believe he ended up about one hundred and ninety.
He had a fifteen carriage for one hundred and ninety.
But he does a good job getting in to the
fullbacks and the other players. Spreading out was about four
or five other men and it really makes it flow
quite well. Our offensive line did a great job on
the front. You know, would you come out against a
(21:11):
North Judgson Knox game and you can push and shove
as much as you want, but if you can block
and sustain and not allow blitzers or things to get
up into the inside of you, it does. It's a
pretty good job for a.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
First game Knox over North Judson sand Pierre Tonight, thirty
eight six the final Russe Radkin thank you so much
for finding my number and taking time to call me.
I wish you the best next week.
Speaker 8 (21:38):
I appreciate very much, and don't forget to send me
an email again with the correct number.
Speaker 1 (21:43):
I'll do it. Thanks a lot. I appreciate it, coach,
thanks very much. Coming up, we're gonna spend some more
time talking about high school football. John Herrick from the
ISC Sports Network will join us, Steve Hartley from Indiana
high School Sports dot Com, plus more high school football
around the state. This is Indiana Sports Talk.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
More scores of week one of high school football coming
at you right now. Your town shuts out Anderson fifty
five nothing. West Central gets a twenty four to eight
win over Winnimac. Wicco takes down Prairie Heights thirty to
twenty two. Columbus North forty nine to seven over Whiteland.
West Noble takes down Central Double thirty five to eight.
(22:26):
Harrison West Lafayette over Westlafayette twenty eight to twenty one.
Alexandria shuts out Westdal forty seven nothing. North Davies takes
down Washington twenty two to ten. Warsaw takes down Fort
Wayne Snyder thirty eight to thirty. Try West thirty five
to seven over Western Boon, Trient Central eleven to ten
over Batesville. Laville shuts out Trenton twenty eight to nothing.
(22:50):
Tipton takes down Frankton forty one to twelve. Tipical New
Valley big win over Plymouth twenty to three. Taylor shuts
out North White sixty four to nothing. Franklin he shuts
out Southwart thirty eight nothing. Ellwood barely slips by Southern
Wells fourteen to eight. Big game between South Buttenham and
North Putnam. South Buttham gets a win at fifty three
to thirty three. South Dearborn gets to win over Jennings
(23:13):
County twenty seven to six. Marion Local shuts out South
Adams fifty six to nothing. Sheridan eaksby Greenwood Christian thirty
two to twenty nine. Shelbyville gets a thirty four to
fourteen win over Greensburg. North Harrison twenty seven to fifteen
over Salem. Milon gets a forty one to eighteen win
(23:34):
over Rushville. Rochester shuts out Southwood forty two nothing, Zionsville
shuts out Pike twenty seven nothing, and Logan Sport doesn't
allow for Rue to get a single scoring Name of
the day. Logansport wins forty eight to nothing, and Penn
wins over Valpariso twenty one to thirteen. Remember can you
have sports?
Speaker 1 (23:50):
I'm many coons Welcome back everyone. This is Indiana Sports Stock.
Let's talk some more high school football. John Herrick joins
me from the IFC Sports Network calls the call of
north Central thirty five to thirteen win over Rebuff Jesuit
Preparatory School. John, thanks for the call. What a great
win for north Central tonight.
Speaker 9 (24:10):
Yes it was, Bob. History has been made. North Central
lost thirty two straight games over the last three years,
so for them to win tonight and to do it
in the fashion in which they did it is incredibly impressive.
They had a fourteen nothing lead at halftime, and they
(24:31):
went up twenty one to nothing, but Rebuff started to
come back. They scored two touchdowns in a row. They
were aided by a North Hutt in a mishap on
a punt where the snap went over the punter's head.
He had to fall on it and that gave Rebuff
the field position at the twelve yard line. Scored on
the next play, so it's a one score game. But
(24:53):
then North Central goes on a ninety six yard fourteen
play spring drive that takes almost six minutes off the clock.
They get a touchdown, they go up twenty eight thirteen,
and then they go on to win thirty five to thirteen,
and all the students storm the field and that they've
been waiting.
Speaker 5 (25:14):
For this man.
Speaker 9 (25:14):
They've been went with this for three years, since twenty
twenty one was the last time they had to win
before tonight. Rebuff lost a lot of players from last
year's team, including the coaches. Done.
Speaker 4 (25:24):
Who is the quarterback?
Speaker 9 (25:25):
Who's going to IU now? And so you're trying to
still trying to find their quarterback, find their group. North
Central got to give a lot of credit to their
first year head coach, Colin Koefer. Graduated from U Indy,
coached at Ball State, coached at Saint Joseph's University, coached
at Indiana State. To all that college experience that he
(25:47):
had that he has got to North Central, I think
is already going to pay dividends for this team, and
it certainly did opening night.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
John, I'm glad you called me because I have coach
Wheeler here with me. So John Herrick from the ISC
Sports Network on the call of North Central's very impressive
win tonight beat a breaking a rather linked the losing street.
They beat Rebuff Jesuit thirty five thirteen, John, Thanks have
(26:17):
a great weekend. We'll talk to you next week about
some IU football. Thanks for the call, not a problem.
Speaker 5 (26:22):
Thanks Coach Nick Wheeler.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
From North Central joins me and coach you heard this.
Congratulations on a great win for you and your kids.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
Yes, thank you so much. First time since twenty eighteen,
I believe that North Central Farmersburg has started the season
off with a win. We're a really young team. We
really worked hard to start expecting victory and kind of
flip this program around. So yeah, it's a really huge
one for our kids, for our community, for our school.
Speaker 1 (26:51):
Well that you know. The great thing about it too
is I mean, let's face it, losing streaks are what
they are, but this is an impressive, impressive win for
you tonight.
Speaker 4 (27:02):
Yes, yes, it was awesome.
Speaker 5 (27:04):
Lame vague Lee.
Speaker 4 (27:05):
He had a heck of a game as our quarterback
for one hundred and nine yards, ranked for seventy seven,
played a part in all of our touchdowns. He had
three passing and one rushing. He was a killery spreading
the spreading the ball out all over the field tonight.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
So so coach, you know, I think one of the
great things is it's just great for the kids to
see a smile on their faces and see how happy
they are and how the smiles on the faces of
everybody in the school. That's a huge win.
Speaker 5 (27:35):
Yes, hugely.
Speaker 4 (27:37):
It was amazing for us.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
All right, who are you playing next week?
Speaker 4 (27:42):
We got Davies at North Central Farmersburg next week.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
Nord Davies at your place, right, yes, yes, all right,
great job tonight, Nick Wheeler from North Central the Farmersburg.
Very big win, coach, Thanks so much. Best of luck
to you and your kids next week.
Speaker 5 (28:01):
Absolutely, thank you, Thank you.
Speaker 1 (28:04):
South Puttenham's Chuck Sorel joins me. The battle for Puttenham
County tonight goes to North Puttenham fifty three to thirty three. Coach,
thanks so much for the call.
Speaker 10 (28:16):
South Puttingham fifty three, North Puttenham thirty three.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
I'm sorry, how could I make such an egregious mistake.
I'm reading it. I'm looking at it right here. South
Puttingnham rank number one, that's the problem, ranked number one,
beating North Puttenham fifty three to thirty three. Take two
for me. Congrats on the wind.
Speaker 11 (28:36):
Thank you.
Speaker 10 (28:37):
You know we was on the road tonight against a
really good North Puttnam team. You know their quarterbacks in
o'highly touted two to a quarterback going to Butler, and
you know, we come out the gate and we run
for over three hundred and fifty yards and Tyd Benton
had five touchdowns and our first year quarterback Drew Klin
through three touchdowns and it just it's a fun evening
(28:59):
on Well, it's going to be on the south side
of Putnam County to night for us.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
Yeah, but you've got such experience from last year. You
guys are playing, you played, you had a great run
a year ago ended too soon for you. I know
kids want to go further, have high expectations, but this
is still one of the biggest games you play every year.
Speaker 5 (29:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (29:19):
This is one of the teams that knocked us off
at our place last year, and you know we've not
looked past them. It's been all about, you know, trying
to beat North Putnam since June. And I thought we
had a really good game plan put together and obviously
our offense come out strong and you know our defense
did enough that you know, we scored more than them,
and that's when it comes down to the end of
(29:40):
the game. That's what matters. And you know, fifty points
in a high school game.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
You should win, Yeah, you should. And you're a team
capable of putting up a lot of points against a
lot of people.
Speaker 10 (29:50):
Yeah, we are, and we got some really good kids.
I mean, you know, Drew Klein threw a touchdown past
the Branson in there. He threw a touchdown pants Blake
Whitt and he also threw one to Khalil Jefferson. So
we've got a lot of weapons. And obviously Tye returning,
he had twenty nine touchdowns last year. You know, he's
the anchor of our offense. And you know, everybody was like,
(30:12):
as your offensive line is gonna be able to rebound
because we lost three starters from last year's team, and
you know, I feel when you have over five hundred
yards offense, I think we did a pretty good job
of getting guys ready.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
So yeah, that's a question. It's been asked and answered
quite quite frankly. All right, who are you playing next week?
Speaker 10 (30:29):
We're at home. We got Greencastle coming into our place,
so you know another we played both Puttenham count schools
right off the bat, so the rival the rivalry continues
next week.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
I was going to say, you know what, why not
why not play those first two. Why not play those
two just started.
Speaker 5 (30:44):
Out with me.
Speaker 10 (30:45):
Yeah, yeah, it's been been around two months trying to
get ready for both of them.
Speaker 1 (30:49):
Yeah, well you're halfway there. But tonight let's say the
Battle of Putnham County. Let's get this right. South Pettingham
beats North Puttenham fifty through thirty three. Chuck Sorel, always
great to talk to you. Thanks for the call, and
good luck next week.
Speaker 10 (31:06):
Thank you coaching.
Speaker 1 (31:07):
Go Eagles, Go Eagles. Steve Hartley joins me, Steve, thanks
for waiting. I apologize for your lengthy weight. Steve's from
Indian High School Sports dot Com. Tonight he has the
call on Zionsville's twenty seven to seven win over Pike.
That's an impressive debut for Zionsville tonight, Steve.
Speaker 12 (31:27):
Yeah, it sure is, Bob and and and as much
as I'd like to fill Steve hartley shoes, I'm Steve Alrey,
but I worked for Steve Harart.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
All right, I apologize for that, Steve. You guys are
confusing me. You Steve's are confusing me tonight.
Speaker 12 (31:43):
I totally get it, but you're right, it was a
good opening win.
Speaker 7 (31:46):
Coach Scott Turnquist.
Speaker 12 (31:48):
Guys, you know, they got off to a great start.
Speaker 4 (31:51):
Well seconds into the game.
Speaker 7 (31:53):
It was seven to nothing.
Speaker 12 (31:54):
They took the opening kickoff eighty two yards for a touchdown,
and uh they scored two more before the half ended.
Pike got shut out.
Speaker 7 (32:02):
In the second half.
Speaker 12 (32:03):
Running back Sam Mana for Zionsville had a seventy two
yard touchdown run, had a forty seven yard touchdown run.
Zionsville's defense really turned it up in the second half
and it was just a good all round win for
a pretty good Zionsville team. A good rivalry game there
on the northwest side.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
Yeah, it is a great rivalry game on the North side.
And I think the other part of it too is
it's you know, it helps so much with Zionsville. They're
playing a difficult schedule, They're going up against some of
the best around and it's great to get this first one.
Speaker 12 (32:36):
Yeah, for sure. And they're a d Greg Schallause talk
to me about that at half time. You know, it's
a good game to start their season because.
Speaker 9 (32:43):
Obviously they play in the Hoosa.
Speaker 12 (32:44):
Crossroads Conference, defending you know state champ Brownsburg's in their westfield.
Speaker 9 (32:49):
You know, we know all of that, and they go
on the road to.
Speaker 12 (32:51):
Lawrence Central next week, so they play in Metropolitan Interscholastic
Conference team next week as well to.
Speaker 4 (32:57):
Kind of help repair them for that.
Speaker 12 (32:58):
HCC schedule that starts with Westfield in two weeks.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
Well, Steve, I'm glad you called him. Sorry I got
your name correct, but I'm glad. I'm go call me anytime.
I'll look forward to talking to you next week. Thanks
so much for being with me.
Speaker 5 (33:15):
Appreciate you, Bob.
Speaker 1 (33:16):

read people's names. We have much more high school football

more than an hour. No schoolboard update coming up right now.

Welcome back everyone. I'm Bob Lovell. This is Network Indiana's
Indiana's Sports Talk high school football Tonight. Paoli with a
big win over Boonville thirty three nothing with me. Paoli's
Jonathan Batts coach, thanks so much for the call. Congratulations
on a great opener.
Speaker 11 (35:47):
Thank you. Actually, Boonville head coach, Boonville thirty three.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
Boonville, thank you, thank you very much. Moonville over Paoli tonight. Coach,
I'm so glad you corrected me. Thank you very much.
Congratulations on the win tonight, thank you.
Speaker 11 (36:04):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (36:05):
All Right, defensively, let's start there. Seems like you guys
when you throw a shut out, so you have to
be really thrilled about how your kids played on that
side of the ball.
Speaker 11 (36:14):
Yeah, we were. We were really good defensively early came
up with a couple of first half turnovers and didn't
give up too much in the first half. Second half
we got a little little lax, gave up some big plays,
but ultimately we kind of kept him out of the
end zone. Did our job there.
Speaker 1 (36:28):
Defensively, that's the idea. So tell me on the defensive side,
who were you impressed with who played well for you tonight?
Speaker 11 (36:35):
Well, I thought both of our overhangs, Teyton Holly Junior
and Dawson Keller Junior, they came downhill and played the
beer really well.
Speaker 9 (36:43):
Our our our.
Speaker 11 (36:43):
Stackbackers inside Mason Jones, Dallas b Scene they came to
play as well. And and our nose Bryce Minks was
pretty disruptive tonight.
Speaker 1 (36:53):
Well, that's pretty impressive. On the offensive side, obviously, you
put some points on the board. Who plays well on
that side of the ball.
Speaker 11 (37:01):
We were pretty effective there. In the backfield, Grant Davis,
who'd been a two year starter for US at crowback,
we moved to running back this offseason. Grant had four
four rushing touchdowns, probably a couple hundred yards on the ground.
Just sees the field really well, great, great great speed.
I thought he played really well. Our quarterback was pretty
efficient in Jackson McCain and again offensively, we had a
(37:23):
few penalties, but overall moved the ball pretty well throughout
the night.
Speaker 1 (37:28):
Coach, that's your first win as a head coach.
Speaker 11 (37:30):
Correct, That is correct.
Speaker 1 (37:33):
I can't tell you how much it means to me
that you will take time you should be celebrating, and
for you to take time to call me and talk
about your team means more than you can begin to understand. Coach,
and I understand it. I remember my first win as
a college basketball at Franklin College back in nineteen seventy six.
(37:57):
I remember like it was yesterday, we beat Walback College
and We're up twenty at halftime, and I'm so mad
I break the locker room door just so you know. Yeah,
I'll feel you, Yeah, feel so you feel me. So
I've lived, I've lived that experience. And I'm again I
mean this sincerely. Hey, this excites me more than you
(38:19):
can understand.
Speaker 8 (38:20):
Thank you.
Speaker 11 (38:21):
I appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
Who you playing next week?
Speaker 11 (38:24):
We've got a conference opponent in Mount Vernon next week?
Speaker 1 (38:27):
All right, But tonight Boonville beats Paoli thirty three nothing,
Jonathan bats thanks for the calling. Good luck next week.
Speaker 11 (38:35):
Absolutely, thank you, Bob.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
Thanks very much. Heritage Christian's coach Caleb Brink joins me.
They beat Speedway tonight, thirty six fifteen. Coaches. That win
number one for you too.
Speaker 13 (38:46):
Yeah, it is win number one for me.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
Let me tell you, brother, you heard me what I
just said, But coach Bats, I say the same thing
to you. Thank you so much in dramatic fashion. You
get a big win tonight. So thanks for taking time
to call me and congratulations.
Speaker 13 (39:04):
Yeah, thank you so much. Just super blessed. Our kids
played really, really hard and I'm really really proud of
them and my staff. So it was a great night.
Speaker 5 (39:13):
And as you can hear, this is not how I
normally sound. It was awesome.
Speaker 1 (39:19):
It was a great night, all right, So make my
night for me. Tell me you kicked me a field
goal at the horn.
Speaker 5 (39:27):
A door and it was It was good though.
Speaker 4 (39:29):
I was really excited.
Speaker 9 (39:30):
It was a good win for our.
Speaker 1 (39:31):
Guys, so it would have been a perfect way to
do it. Coach. Yeah, tell me how you're able to
win this game, coach.
Speaker 13 (39:41):
I think it really just started on the defensive end
of the ball. Our guys. We got a new scheme
for them with a new coaching staff, and really they've
just bought in. We got we got guys, uh who
are two way players for the first time.
Speaker 9 (39:55):
They're not used to it. They're playing defense for the first.
Speaker 13 (39:57):
Time and they're loving it. And and we're getting some
defensive stops. And then the offensive side of the ball.
Our quarterback just grinded it out with Eli next he's
a special player. So it was it was really really great.
Speaker 1 (40:11):
Hey, coach, can you hang on through the short break
a couple of minutes. We'll come back and keep we'll
keep talking. Okay, all right, sounds good. Perfect, We're back
talking more high school football on Indiana sports Dock. Welcome
back everyone on Bob level. This is Indiana Sports Soock.
We returned to Heritage Christian's head coach Caleb Brink. They
beat to Speedway thirty six to fifteen. How do you
(40:33):
win this game, coach?
Speaker 13 (40:36):
Yeah, it was it was our It was our defense,
our quarterback Eli Knicks, our center Nate Turpin, and and
just our very special receiver and andrews Loan playing offense
and defense. It's blocking and tackling and turnovers. I mean
it's as simple as that. Really really proud of our
(40:56):
staff and our boys.
Speaker 1 (40:58):
When do you score the game winner.
Speaker 13 (41:02):
That was coming down the end of the pipe there
about about four minutes left in the game. Just grinded
them down, really milt the clock, and our boys they
just they wanted to keep going down down the field
and running to play, and by God's grace, we just
were able to move it on them and then just
put them away. So it was a great night.
Speaker 1 (41:23):
Well, go kiss your family and celebrate your first one
as a coach. Okay, I'm telling you that's what you need.
To spend time with them all your family, celebrate it,
savor it as much as you can because this is
one of those. And thank you so much for calling me.
Speaker 4 (41:38):
Yeah, special night.
Speaker 5 (41:40):
Hope you have a great night.
Speaker 13 (41:41):
Thanks for all the coverage you do for Thanks You're
welcome football.
Speaker 1 (41:44):
Thanks for the kind words. Thank you very much. Playfield
beach chair out South tonight thirty one to seven with
me Quaker head coach Tyler Bliss coach. Thanks so much
for the call and congratulations on a good win tonight.
Speaker 5 (41:58):
Thank you, Bob.
Speaker 14 (41:59):
I appreciate every thing you do for for high school
sports and especially in the high school football.
Speaker 1 (42:03):
Well you all are too kind I'm just I'm just
having fun. I mean, I'm having a good time talking
to guys like you. So brand new coach at Tarroed South,
coach Barrett's one of the best. You got to be
proud of what your guys did. You have high expectations,
I know with this group.
Speaker 5 (42:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 14 (42:24):
Uh, you know, very pleased with the outcome of tonight's victory.
Speaker 7 (42:27):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (42:27):
You know, we were.
Speaker 14 (42:28):
A little bit of the unknown with week one and
then especially going in against the new head coach at
a school that we've played, you know, for the last
couple of years. But uh, we were able to kind
of weather the storm of the first quarter and then
and kind of got it going in the second quarter
and third quarter, and then finished it strong in the fourth.
Speaker 1 (42:47):
All Right, tell me who steps up and plays well
for you tonight.
Speaker 14 (42:51):
Yeah. He was really proud of our quarterback Bright the Bonds.
I thought he managed the game really well. Luke Starn's,
you know, a three year arcity running back for us,
was solid, had a nice screen for about forty five
yards and then attacked on a couple of runs.
Speaker 5 (43:08):
So those two played well.
Speaker 14 (43:10):
Offensive line, you know, kept Brice healthy in the pocket,
and then defensively really played well across the board, our
open field tackling as well, and ty White got to
pick at the end of the game to kind of
see it all off for us.
Speaker 1 (43:24):
Who are you playing next week, coach.
Speaker 14 (43:27):
Yeah, we have our home opener against Lafia Harrison. I
believe they won tonight against West Lafayette. You know, this
is a team that we have played for a couple
of times here in the last four years. So familiar opponent.
Speaker 5 (43:40):
Six a opponent. Briefly looking at them.
Speaker 14 (43:43):
They've got some speed, they got some size. You know,
we'll have our work cut out for us, but we'll
try to enjoy this one for about twenty four hours.
Speaker 1 (43:51):
Playing field thirty one, seven winners over Tira Hod South
Tyler bless Thank you so much to the call. Good
luck to you and the Quakers next week. Thank you,
Bob paled to the Varque, paled to the Varsity. You
bet coming up. Brian Sullivan, the head coach of Charlestown
on Indiana Sports Talk
