Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good evening, everybody, and welcome to Network Indiana's Indiana Sports
Talk and Bob Lovell is brought to you by Indiana
Donor Network. Coming up, We've got a lot of football
to talk about, Colts in their matchup with Cincinnati. Also
talking some college football, some baseball, some racing. That's a
lot right now, though, we turn it over to the

(00:24):
Star Wars Show, the Busiest man you know. It's Network
Indiana's Jase Hodge.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Victory Formation and the preseason finale in Cincinnati belongs to
the Indianapolis Colts. The clock will run out and the
final score today in Cincinnati at Pei for a stadium
on the Ruot Morgan scoreboard will be the Indianapolis Colts
forty one and that Cincinnati Bengals team.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
You heard it there first on the Colts Radio Network
in Napolis. Colts get the victory over the Cincinnati Bengals
forty one to fourteen in the final preseason game before
regular season begins in just two weeks time against the
Miami Dolphins. Some of the bigger players of today. Daniel
Scott gets to pick six. Last two years he tours
acl and Camp in twenty three as a rookie and

(01:21):
tours Achilles in twenty four had not played a single
snap of any kind of football until this preseason. Had
a pick six today, and he talks about his adversity. Yeah,
but he's had to go through.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Yeah, it's been emotional.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
You know, it's been a lot of physical recovery that
we've had to do with. It's a lot of mental
recovery as well. I think the last two years you
can't really prepare for that. But I think that's just
a unique story that I have. You know, my story
has never been linear, whether it's been in college, before
college even now. So just trusting the process. Know each

(01:52):
and every day, if you keep getting better, those times
will come to make those plays.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
And for the quarterback g starrders today, that was Riley Leonard.
He went fifteen to twenty four, one hundred and eightye
yards and a touchdown, and he talks about playing more
freely than he has in the past.

Speaker 5 (02:06):
Yeah. I think overall, the thing I grew most sen
was just not really caring, just going out there and
letting it fly. I think sometimes, like I said in
the past, is just put too much pressure on myself
to try to be perfect. But luckily I'm you know,
obviously I'm in a situation now when you know Daniel
and and are getting a lot of the ones and
two reps, and I'm just got nothing to lose. Go
out there, let it fly, have some fun.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
So the Colts finished the pre season one and two.
They will head it to the regular season to play
Miami on September seventh. As for the Indiana Fever, they
are back in action tomorrow as they take on the
Minnesota Lynks in Minnesota. They're fresh off of loss yesterday
against the very same team, the Links, but at home
at game Bridgefield House, losing that one by five. But

(02:48):
Lexi hold a guard for the Indiana Fever. She believes
that the team is on the cusp.

Speaker 6 (02:52):
But first half, I mean they got some kickout. Three
is that we can control just getting on the glass
box from out, a little bit more effort, a little
bit more focus, a little bit more locked in on
our schemes. But we're right there, so I think we
can head into Sunday's game with a little bit of confidence,
so we can compete against anybody.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
The Fever currently sit at six and the WNBA just
above Seattle and Golden State, who wore on the last
two playoff spots that are available in the league. They
also signed a new guard today, Aerial Powers, as she
gets a seven day hardship contract. As the injuries for
the fever they keep on piling up, as recent signee
Honesty Simms, who is also on a seven day hardship,

(03:29):
suffered a groin injury in yesterday's game, but she is
still probable to play tomorrow against the Links. Looking now
in a Major League Baseball in the Cleveland Guardians, they
fell ten to nothing in Arlington as they lost to
the Rangers in that one. The White Sox, though they
get the win seven to three at home against Minnesota.
For the Reds, they're down eight nothing in Arizona as

(03:49):
they look to try to maintain the positioning in the
NL Wildcard. The Tigers beat the Royals four to two,
and the Cubs currently tied zero zero early on in
loss an list taking on the Angels for Minor League baseball,
the Cubs soup in Cubs, they get the win to
zero over Cedar Rapids. The ten Caps they're down three
to four in Lake County and the Indianapolis Indians they

(04:11):
fell four zero to the Sarah Cuse mets As in
racing the Snap on Milwaukee miles to fifty tomorrow the
penultimate IndyCar race Alex Polow, who has already wrapped up
the championship for IndyCar. He takes poll tomorrow in Milwaukee
as he will start on top of the leader board.
Behind him and second David Malucas, Thirdy patro Award, Fourth

(04:33):
is Scott McLaughlin, Fifth Scott Dixon, Sixth Will Power, Seventh
Kyle Kirkwood, eighth is Joseph Newgarden, ninth the local man
Connor Daily, and tenth will be Kristin Rasmussen. NASCAR. Currently
ongoing in the Coke zero Sugar four hundred taking place
in Daytona. We'll look at that a next scoreboard update,
as currently the leader of that one is Christopher Bell.

(04:56):
We'll get into that the next update. My name Jaysodg.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
Welcome back everyone. Glad you could join us on Indiana
Sports Talk. Thank you so much for joining us last night.
We appreciate you being with us opening night of high
school football around the state. And my thanks to the
twenty three coaches and media members who called me last night.

(05:23):
It was a busy night coaches and media folks, if
you were trying to get through, I am sorry, it
was busy. I always beg people's patients on Friday nights.
It's it's a it's a moving target every every Friday,

(05:43):
and we do the best we can. I've often said
that your Friday nights throughing football and basketball are are.
My job is like a working at an airport and
a air traffic controller, where I have a lot of
people trying to land and try a lot of people
trying to get in, and you have to manipulate the

(06:05):
time and you have to maneuver and massage and move
some things around to be able to make it happen.
And so it's not like a real job, but it's
it gets a little tricky on busy Friday nights. And
we were extremely busy last night, which is gratifying. Reminded
me of some of our earlier shows back and back

(06:28):
in the day, so to speak. And so I encourage
you if you've never listened to us, and I can't
imagine that people haven't listened to us over the course
of thirty one years, I'm sure you have, but I
encourage you to join us on Friday night for Week
number two. Paul Condrey from the Regional Radio Sports Network
and the Indiana Football Digest will join me later on

(06:48):
tonight and take a look back at last night's action
around the state and then look to week number two
and talk about some of the key games coming up
on Friday night around the state. Make sure you join us.
He'll be with us in the eleven o'clock hour, so
you know, stay awake if you can. It's gonna be fun.

(07:09):
It's a great, great interview. Also, Pat Boyling is gonna
join me. We're gonna talk about the fever. Last night's
loss was a tough one to the Links. Play him
again tomorrow Tomorrow night, so it's kind of a back
to backer and they're getting down to the end right now.
Playoffs are tricky, so to speak. So we'll talk with

(07:30):
Pat about that. Brendan King and I talk minor league baseball.
We still have that, And I'm gonna talk with Mark
James a little bit later on tonight and talking about racing.
IndyCar moves to Milwaukee, so we're gonna race tomorrow. So
we got a lot going on tonight, plus talk more
about the Colts. Jace Hodge you're with me again. I'm

(07:52):
glad you're there, Chase.

Speaker 7 (07:55):
Now that we have this.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
Final preseason game out of the way, when do we
reduce the roster.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
I believe it is in three days. They have to
be down to the fifty three man roster.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
Fifty three. That's always a tricky exercise. Yeah, yeah, I
mean it gets you know, the questions of how many quarterbacks,
how many how many of this position and that position.
All of those things figure into all the permutations of
who can be there and not. So that's coming up.
What else is going on?

Speaker 3 (08:28):
I mean the Colts that don't play till the seventh now,
the Indiana fever, they are Nation tomorrow. Like you said,
NASCAR is currently going on right now. They are in
Daytona at the at the National Speedway. There any coke
zero sugar four hundred, so that one's currently a lap
one oh four of one sixty. So they're down into
the nitty gritty right now.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
Yeah, they are getting into it. They're they're they're about
you know, the playoffs are right there and it's gonna
be it's gonna be a whole lot of fun. That's fun.
That's great. And then now IndyCar runs tomorrow, so we'll
we'll talk about that. UH, tell me about that. We
talked started to talk about the exhibit exhibit the preseason

(09:11):
game with UH with Cincinnati, Riley Leonard had everybody excited
with the touchdown bomb he got. He had a great day.
You want to talk about somebody who jumped out there
and might have captured a roster spot. He might be there.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
Yeah, the cult picked him, you know, late in the draft,
hoping that maybe he could be that third quarterback on
the roster. It's been between him and Jason Bean the
whole preseason to see, you know, which guy can stand
out more. Right, you would think that Leonard has kind
of won that job over based on the fact that
he's playing before Jason ban the preseason games, and based
on the fact that said day he played really well
and had that really good deep shot to the quand
treadwell for about sixty yards. So overall, Leonard he played

(09:46):
a really good game. Granted it was against third stringers
and the Bengals defense, but he looked really good.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
He really did. You really did. And these listen, you know,
you're you're making decisions on ross spots, UH and depth
is such an important thing in the NFL. It's incredibly
important because you know people are going to be hurt
and you have to have quality depth at every spot
that you can, so uh, that is important decisions that

(10:17):
they'll have to make. Coming up, All right, Jace Hodge
coming back here in just a few seconds with a
schoolboard update and once again a reminder join us Friday
night week number two high school football. Also, it's it's fun.
You're going to games, you're in your car, you leave
the games, you jump in your car, you turn us
on on your local station, you get scores, we'll talk

(10:41):
to coaches. It's fun. It's a fun thing to do
on a Friday night, and we encourage you to be there.
Scoreboard up to coming up with Jase Hodge and then
we're back talking about football and racing on Indiana Sports Song.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
This is Jay Sodge with your work Indiana Sports Updates
and NASCAR right now towards you we get into some
of that. They are currently under caution and lap one
nine of one to sixtieth the Daytona International Speedway at
the Coke Zero at the Coke Zero Sugar four one
hundred currently gets John H. Nimachek, who has just taking
the lead over Eric Jones, Austin Dillon and the Chevy

(11:19):
currently and third Christopher Bell and fourth Legano in the
Ford and fifth Chris Busher and sixth Brisco Seventh, eighth
is Ryan Priest, ninth is Josh Berry, and tenth is
Kyle Larson. Looking down the list, the current points leader
in the Cup series is William Byron. He currently says
in twentieth place, but he has recently pitted, so we'll
see if he can't work his way back up the

(11:41):
leader board under caution. Looking into the Colts once again,
they won forty one to fourteen in the preseason victory. Today.
It was a great day from Ryan Lee Leonard and
he had a phenomenal thirty eight front to the Kwan
Treadwell a fifty nine yard touchdown. They gave the Colts
a twenty four to seven lead in the first half.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
Thirty eight seconds remain Leonard. Meanwhile, back's to throw on
second in ten Gonna loft one downfield for Treadwell.

Speaker 8 (12:05):
He's got inside the twenty ten five.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
And he walks into the end zone.

Speaker 8 (12:09):
Look one Treadwell, Yes, sirup bomb put right all the
money by Riley Leonard and Treadwell made an over their
shoulder catch. It went over his right shoulder into the
bread basket and he walks in got behind the secondary
for a touchdown.

Speaker 3 (12:27):
Treadwell one hundred and sixteen yards on the game as well,
trying to earn himself a spot in the receiver room.
Really there's six guys ahead of him, so he has
to earn that spot, and he hopes he earned that spot.
Come cuts in the next three days. The Fever and
Action tomorrow against the Minnesota Lynx for Network Indiana Sports.
I'm Jay Sodge.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
Welcome back everyone on Bob level. This is Indiana Sports.
Sock Fever had a tough one last night. Fever. Things
aren't going one well now personnel wise. Think we all
understand that that's pretty well chronicled. They lose to the
Lynx last night and that's a ninety five to ninety loss.
Played well, lost to a really good team. And with
me to talk about that from the feasts, the Fever

(13:15):
and the Pacers are good friend, Pat Boylan Pat. They're
playing well, they're just not winning some close games and
that was underscored. And last night's lost to the Lynx.

Speaker 9 (13:25):
Yeah, Bob, I think that's exactly how you would describe
last night's game to Minnesota. You know, the Fever played
exceptionally about for the for about the first fifteen minutes.
They got up by twelve. They were shooting sixty percent
from the field. They were at one point nine to
twelve from the three point line. You knew that wasn't
going to last.

Speaker 10 (13:43):
You rarely shoot.

Speaker 9 (13:44):
Seventy five percent from the three point line in the game.
Although they didn't end up thirteen for twenty, so they
did end up with a spectacular percentage from out there.
But Minnesota best record in the WNBA. They are missing
their best player and a piece of Collieer, but the
Fever were without five players last night. Oh continue to
go with significant, significant injury troubles, and the Caitlyn Clark

(14:05):
injury is an obvious challenge, but they're missing all sorts
of backcourt help. Erry McDonald, who was the player brought
in to help stem the tide when Caitlyn Clark got hurt.
She's out for the season. Sidney Colson, the backup point guard,
she's out for the season. Sophie Cunningham, who's more of
the two but had been on the ball a little
bit more as the injuries had happened.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
She got hurt.

Speaker 9 (14:28):
She's out for the season. And then another player, Chloe Bibby,
who they recently brought in, she's dealing with a knee
injury and she was out last night and will be
out tomorrow night as well. So they're dealing with not
only issues with not having Kaitlin Clark and not having
your best players extremely challenging of course, but they don't
have death, they don't have anything resembling death right now,
and they're still they're still getting by Bob. You know,

(14:50):
the fact that they're nineteen and seventeen with all of
these injuries, actually, I think is really impressive. And I
know that that number doesn't jump off the page or
anything like that, but it is. It's a better record
than they had last year when they dealt with very
few injuries. So you know, at the end of the day,
this team needs Caitlin Clark to reach its ceiling, or
to get even close right with ceiling, and we'll still

(15:12):
see if that's if that's going to happen or not.
But in the meantime, I would say they played some
pretty inspired ball they've been pretty resilient. On Sunday they
overcame a twenty one point deficit and one in the
franchise's largest comeback in history. And you know, now they
just try to continue to get by in the meantime
with all of these injuries, and that's not going to
be easy because it's a home and home with Minnesota.

(15:33):
So I'm talking to you right now from Minneapolis, and
the Fever will will tip off against the Links once
again tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
You know, Pat, it's amazing when injuries happen, but injuries
to people you've just brought in, people you just signed,
you know, the substitutes are injured also, as you talked about,
it clearly affects your depth. But night after night you'll
have a Leah Boston slugging it out with people and

(16:02):
playing at an all star level and the anchor of
this basketball team.

Speaker 9 (16:07):
Right now, yeah, no question, You've got, first to your
initial point, you've got injuries on top of players brought
in to make up for those injuries. So I mean,
you've got injuries on injuries right now. It's like the
movie in Secrone. You've got hardship exceptions on top of
hardship exceptions. It's I really can't remember anything quite like it.

(16:27):
And Aliah Boston, as you said, has been really really good.
The Fever still do have two All Stars without Caitlin
Clark a Leah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell. Ye, Boston's been
really strong, and lately Kelsey Mitchell's been on an absolute
tear and she has been kind of putting this team
on her shoulders. Even in the loss last night, still
had a twenty seven point performance. She scored thirty eight,

(16:48):
matching her career high in Connecticut, and she's third in
the league in scoring behind the two MVP favorites. So yeah,
those two have been massive. They've been pivotal. The Fever
probably are outside of the playoff picture looking in if
Boston and Mitchell weren't playing so well, and you know,
they're playing about five hundred ball without Kitlyn Mark, which
I think is pretty good. You know, if you can

(17:10):
continue to play at this level and you do get
her back, I still think this season could have you know,
a real high high at the end of it. But
unfortunately Clark's injury is the big unknown right now and
she has not gotten back to practice yet. And that's
the next step for her. If you start to see
her practicing, that should be a sign that she's getting closer.

(17:30):
But the season ends on September ninth, and as of now,
she has yet the practice. But now, in the meantime,
Boston and Mitchell have been excellent. They have been vital
in the Fever, you know, keeping their head above waters
above water here, and just their general resiliency and their
adaptiveness to all these new players that we've been talking about.

(17:51):
They started the year with an eleven player roster and
now they have had seventeen different players wear the uniform.
So it's just been I mean, it's been kind of
a merry go round of different players coming in and
in general they've done a pretty good job. At the
end of the day, it's it's quite difficult, you know,
to play at a really really high level when you've

(18:12):
been dealt the unfortunate cards the Fever have been dealt
this year so far.

Speaker 1 (18:16):
My early pick for Coach of the Year has to
be Coach White. Come on, now, she's done a spectacular
job of keeping everybody together, keeping them focused, and you know,
the attitude is, hey, we're playing, we take we care
about the people who we have we can't worry about
the people we don't have. We just need to go
do what we're supposed to do. And that's a large

(18:38):
part of why they're where they are.

Speaker 9 (18:40):
Yeah, and it's clearly something Bob, that you, as a
coach yourself, can understand and recognize. And it's the point
that I've been trying to make a lot is Look,
I understand that the nineteen and seventeen record doesn't exactly
jump off the page as coach of the year type material.
Now she's got some pretty good competition show or even
Minnesota is twenty nine and seven. Golden State was an
expansion franchise that is in the playoffs right now. So

(19:03):
those might be the top two favorites. But when you
consider the fact that last year's Fever team dealt with
very very little injury. Caitlyn Clark played the whole season,
did not miss Kelsey Mitchell leeb Austin did not miss
a game. That team went twenty and twenty, they were
five hundred, and it was a nice step forward. That
was without Stephanie White. Stephanie White came in this year
and this team without Caitlin Clark for two thirds of

(19:26):
the season, with five different injured players right now, with
seventeen different players who have suited it up, they've actually
got a better record than last year's team, which is
really hard to believe. And again, I know that nineteen
and seventeen number doesn't jump out at any casual fan
at least, but it's really been an impressive effort, and
I think the coaching staff gets a ton of credit

(19:46):
for that. Stephanie and her whole staff get a ton
of credit for that. But also I think, you know,
the front office, who are probably the busiest front office
during the season that a WNBA franchise has had in
a long long time, bringing these players in that have
stepped in away and not really needed, you know, any
time to gear up. These players have come in, they've
been ready to go, they've been professional, and there's been

(20:07):
very little learning curve. And I think that's why the
Fever still sit in sixth right now, despite the fact
that they've dealt been dealt, you know, just a horrendous
about of bad luck with the injuries.

Speaker 1 (20:20):
He's pat boiling from the Fever, Fever taking on the
links tomorrow. What time is that game tomorrow?

Speaker 9 (20:26):
Pant So locally that is a seven o'clock tip, So
you will begin Sunday night at seven, and we are
on WTHR in Indianapolis, So if you are in Indianapolis
listening to this, you can catch Debbie Kelse and I
right there at seven o'clock tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
I will do that pant. It's must set, No, it's
must see TV. Are you getting me chance to watch
the Fever and listen to you? Come on? How much
better does it get?

Speaker 10 (20:52):
Well?

Speaker 9 (20:52):
We feel so fortunate, Bob, because I'm talking to you
here in Minneapolis, and this is only the second year
that we've been traveling as a TV broadcast. And that's power, right,
Caitlyn Clark, right absolutely, he came in and all of
a sudden, we're able to do these games on the road,
and I feel like it allows us to provide a
much better product to the fans. And so that's what's
exciting for us is we used to call these road

(21:13):
games from a studio, and don't get me wrong, that
was great, but i'd be able to be there. There's
all replacing at the arena to call a game, and
we're fortunate to be able to do that this year.
Last year we did as well, and we'll be coming
to you from Minneapolis tomorrow night.

Speaker 1 (21:27):
Pad Boiling, have a great call. Pat, thanks for taking
time to join me.

Speaker 9 (21:31):
Hey, thanks Bob, Thanks for having me.

Speaker 1 (21:33):
It's a lot Pat bad Boiling from the fever. Fever
the most banged up. I can't in recent memory think
of anyone who's going through more than what they have
or injury wise, and they're still They're still battling. It's
a fun story. It's fun to watch them. We're all
frustrated for Caitlyn Clark and for the Fever that she's

(21:57):
not been able to compete.

Speaker 6 (21:59):
And and.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
I have no idea how much how difficult that is
for I can only imagine so Fever and the links tomorrow.
As Pat mentioned, make sure you they're they're on TV.
It's great. Make sure you watch and enjoy it. Their season.
They're about to run out of time, so we're hopeful
that they can continue to go out and battle like

(22:23):
they have. Coming up, we're gonna talk some college football,
some racing, all of that coming up on Network Indiana's
Indiana Sports Talk.

Speaker 3 (22:39):
I'm Jay Sodge for this Indiana Sports Talk update. Looking
into Major League Baseball right now, a few games ongoing
a few games have wrapped up, being with the games
that have already gone final. The Cleveland Guardians fell ten
zero to the Texas Rangers. The White Sox if he
did the Twins seven to three at home, and the
Tigers got the home victory as well, four to two
over the Kansas City Royals. As for the Cincinnati Reds,

(23:01):
who are trying to make their way into the NL
playoff picture, they're getting smacked in Arizona nine to one,
currently in the bottom of the seventh As for the
Chuckle Cubs, last time I came with you, I came
talk to you, it was zero zero and it is
now six to zero as the Cubs just hit a
grand slam via Reesmick Wire. The nine hole batter hits

(23:23):
a grand slam and the Cubs take a six nothing victory.
In Minor League baseball, the Fort Wayne ten Caps their
game is gone final and they get the comfort behind
victory as they win five to four at the Lake
County Captains. The Indians lose four zero in Syracuse, and
the South Bend Cubs they win to nothing at home
against the Cedar Rapids Colonels. As for the NASCAR Cup Series,

(23:44):
they are now back under a green flag lap one
twenty one of one sixty. The league is currently with
Joey Legano in the Ford Machine, followed behind him as
Austin Dylon and Justin Haley both in Chevyes, Aeric Jones
and Toyota and Kyle Larson in that Chevy So should
be a great end to the Coke zero Sugar four
hundred at the Daytona International Speedway. As for the Indianapolis Colts,

(24:08):
they got the win to day forty one to fourteen
in Cincinnati. Just on I seventy four, they win forty
one to fourteen and they returned to action the regular
season on September seventh when they take on the Miami
Dolphins at home. But first they had to cut down
their roster to fifty three players in three days. My
name is Jay Satt Thattwrick Indiana.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
Welcome back everyone, This is Indiana Sports Talk speaking of
roster cuts, reductions and limits what have you. Who better
to talk about that than the television voice for the
preseason for the Indianapolis Colts and the most talented man

(24:53):
in the business, the ubiquitous Greg Rigstrow. Greg, thanks for
joining me. It's gonna win today in a preseason game
in Cincinnati, and now the real work begins trying to
figure out what fifty three makes this roster.

Speaker 10 (25:10):
Yeah, I think you know, most of the guys that
we saw play today are guys that are you know,
shooting for the practice squad, are going to try to
you know, latch for somebody else, you know. But the
guys that did play today were sick. That one lopsided guy,
he's in a long yeah stick for Daniels. He may

(25:35):
be a guy to work his way out of the.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
Great great hold on there. Yep, we're having some trouble,
uh understanding you, We're kind of we're kind of losing you.
So do me a favor. It's okay to hang up
on me. I mean a lot of people have and
I'm alright with it. So uh uh technology Greg, Greg

(26:05):
sterl will will rejoin us temporarily. Greg, I'm sorry about that.
Let's try this again. Okay, sounds good. You sound so
much better. So uh, basically what you said, I need
you to repeat what you were talking about. Certain individuals
who might have done themselves of some favors today.

Speaker 10 (26:29):
Night.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
M all right, hold on, hold on a second, Greg,
We're gonna try this again. How about we'll call you, Okay, Greg,
hang up, We'll call you and we'll try to We'll
try to do this again.

Speaker 7 (26:49):
All right, So it's a.

Speaker 1 (26:54):
Hell yeah, let's uh, let's do this. Let's try to
reconnect with him. You guys have a back in the studio.
You guys have a number, Yeah, we do, Coach, We're good. Okay,
let's try and let's try and call him and reach
him if we can, and see if we can get
him back on the air. So while Greg, while we're

(27:15):
trying to reconnect with Greg once again, Colts begin their season,
not not next week, but the following week. Got their
first two games at home, which is kind of a
unique circumstance for them. And it's gonna be a fun year.
It's gonna be an interesting year. There's certainly a lot
of storylines coming out of camp and coming out of

(27:38):
preparation for this. And so if we're able to reconnect
with Greg, which we're certainly hopeful that we can, we'll
try to. Just Okay, so we're still trying to get him,
all right, Let's just continue our efforts, Jays, while he
is not with us. The fifty three number is in

(27:58):
three days, correct, I believe so, yes, And so you
know it's I would not be I'm not a personnel
guy in the NFL. That's a difficult job. And so
that's that's just something that they're, Uh, that's what they do,
and it's so important in this day and age, knowing
that quality depth is of prime importance to everyone in

(28:21):
the NFL because injuries are the norm rather than the exception,
and you've got to be able to weather that storm,
especially if you can weather the storm at the quarterback position.
So I think the you know, the the cults in
the unique situation have some talented guys there making decisions

(28:41):
have not certainly been easy for them at all.

Speaker 11 (28:45):
And so.

Speaker 1 (28:47):
To see what happens and see if we can reconnect
with mister Rakestraw and get him back and talking about
the updated rosters that will happen on in three days.
So we'll see how that goes. And we're trying to
reach him, Jace, any luck on to catch mister Rakestaw.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
Nothing so farm getting the nod from the studio.

Speaker 1 (29:20):
Okay, outstanding, and we'll just keep We'll go keep when
you hosted live show. Uh, sometimes these things happen, and
it's just how it's just how it goes. We'll see
how it goes. Coming up later in this hour, I'm
gonna talk with Mark James talking about IndyCar. They're in Milwaukee,
NASCAR is in Daytona. It's a big race weekend as

(29:44):
they're about to try to wrap it all up and
so need to spend some time with that. Again, I
want to thank all of you who joined us last night,
and I'm sure there were quite a few of you
when are opening night for high school football around the state.
That went very very well. We you to join us
on Friday night as we get into week number two.

(30:04):
Later on tonight, Paul Condrey and I will talk about
the matchup and the big matchups around the state and
week number two look back at some of the great wins,
maybe surprising wins from people last night around the state.
So don't forget to join us for that. That'll be

(30:25):
in the eleven o'clock hour. Paul will join us and
we'll see how that works. Right now though, still trying
to talk Colts football with Greg rigsdraw Colts today in
their matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals are forty one to
fourteen winners, and we'll continue to try to do that,

(30:48):
all right, Jase, anything else in terms of the game
today with Cincinnati other than the big bomb that Riley
Leonard threw, who else may have stepped up and played
well today?

Speaker 10 (31:03):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (31:03):
On the defensive end, it was Daniel Scott. I mean,
the last two seasons, he tore his acl as a
rookie in camp, and he tore his achilles last year
in camp. He hadn't even played a meaningful snap of
football even in the preseason until this season, and he
had to pick six early in the game to get
the Colts to lead.

Speaker 1 (31:18):
It's good news, that's good. So what are the the
going into this, What are the thoughts in terms of
what they're doing roster wise?

Speaker 3 (31:29):
You know, I mean, coach there is a lot of
injuries already on this Colts injury report, So it's going
to be, you know, up to the coaching staff if
they want to put more players in certain positions that
have those more injuries, like on the defense, and so
there's a lot of defensive tackles and defensive ends that
are currently having some injury problems. So that's going to
weigh heavily into the decisions that they have to make
it if they decide to bring some more players into

(31:49):
those positions, because they're going to need them. I mean
at the dB as well. They've already lost multiple defensive
backs of the season due to injuries. With Hunter Woler
going down the preseason game, with Justin Waley the rookie
going down preseason game, They're gonna need to bring in
some extra dbs at some point too. So you've got
to think defensively they're gonna have a little bit more
on the roster come cut time.

Speaker 1 (32:08):
That's interesting. I mean, that's very interesting and a lot
of clearly a lot of moving parts in this, without question,
as you try to put together this roster, and again
you and I don't do it for a living, so
it becomes very very interesting in how this ends up

(32:30):
playing out.

Speaker 3 (32:32):
Yeah, for sure. I mean if looking at other players
who tried to, you know, earn their spot today, some
running backs Nate Noel had seven carries for sixty three yards,
liss Is Bentley the fourth he had two touchdowns on
the ground today. The Colts heavy on the ground game
late in that game, I mean, because they had a
huge advantage. So some running backs that hadn't gotten looked
so far, got some good looks and impressed for the most.

Speaker 1 (32:50):
Part, very impressed. I mean it's a and you always
think about this too, and you make these maneuvers with
your roster. Everybody else is doing the same thing, and
so rosters are there's always in a state of flux.
It's a very fluid situation. So uh, people who get

(33:11):
released some other teams might find themselves here and that's
why this is such a chess match with everyone as
they start to do it. So uh, there's certainly plenty
of things to talk about relative to their roster. And
we've talked about it at length about the quarterback spot,
and so you know that seems to have been resolved

(33:32):
and now we'll just see if they can begin to
put some things together and become a good football team.
And as we mentioned, you first two at home, I
think is a great, great thing all of us understand
and sports how important getting good starts are and be
a great way to get this. This is a team

(33:53):
that I think really desperately needs. I think we all
understand this. You need to be you need to be
in the playoffs. That's there's a lot on the line.
All right, well come back school brough up. They coming
up and talk to some racing if we can. On
Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Suck for.

Speaker 3 (34:12):
This Network Indiana Sports Update, I'm Jay Sodge. The Indiana
Fever fell last night ninety five to ninety at Gamebridge
Field House at the hands of the best team in
the WNBA, that being the Minnesota Lynx. Those two teams
will face off again tomorrow at seven PM as the Fever,
who are currently said at nineteen and seventeen, take on
the Links in Minneapolis. The Links are currently twenty nine

(34:34):
and seven and the best team in the WNBA. Let's
go ahead and hear about what Stephanie White, the heck
coach of the Fever, thought about yesterday's loss.

Speaker 11 (34:43):
You know those two runs that they had, you know
those two runs that they had into the second beginning
of the third turnovers for scores. Can't sit your defense
with that, you know, letting, letting players get to their strength.
You can't lose Cayler McBride. I mean, she's one of
the most prolific three point shooters in league history. We
had moments where we had some breakdowns in Personneld and
it hurts us.

Speaker 3 (35:02):
And for Lexi. Holmes also gave some postgame thoughts and
thinks that the team is on the cusp of figuring
it out.

Speaker 6 (35:08):
But first half, I mean they got some kickout. Three
is that we can control just getting on the glass
box from out, a little bit more effort, a little
bit more focus, a little bit more locked in on
our schemes. But we're right there, so I think we
can head into Sunday's game with a little bit of confidence.
So we compete against anybody, the.

Speaker 3 (35:25):
Fever and the Links tomorrow at seven pm, as the
Fever look to maintain that sixth spot in the w NBA.
In the MLB one game just going final, that is
the Cincinnati Reads falling in Arizona ten to one. The
final scores as they got the d Max get to
win over the Cincinnati Reds. The Tigers beat the Royals
four to two, White Sox over Minnesota, Florida. Three Guardians

(35:48):
fall ten zero in Texas, and the Cubs currently lead
the Angels six nothing in Anaheim via a four run
grand slam by Reese McGuire.

Speaker 1 (35:58):
Back everyone, this is a SPORTSOC brought you Byingdienda Donor Network.
College football the thirty first of this month, Notre Dame
gets started. They open up their season with Southern cal
with me to talk about that and all things Notre
Dame football related. The doctor is in Doctor Lynn Clark,
Irish one on one and world famous author, Doctor Clark,

(36:22):
thanks so much for the call. By the way, the
zoom call about the CNN Immersion project is.

Speaker 7 (36:30):
Number one.

Speaker 1 (36:31):
I'm not worthy. It's just I mean, I'm on this
call wondering just exactly why did they ask me to
do this? But I'm glad you did. And secondly, I'm
very excited about it. I think it's fantastic.

Speaker 7 (36:46):
Well, I am excited about it as well. So we're
going to put a big plug in to bring it
to Indianapolis, and of course, with your connections media wise
and with the NCAA there, I think sure it is
the right decision. So I reached out to your colleague
Malcolm and get his feedback, and then I'll present to
our friends at CNN. You know, the proposal, and hopefully
we can get it up and running very quick.

Speaker 1 (37:08):
It'll be great, all right, We still have to wait
another few days. Do we not to watch Notre Dame?

Speaker 7 (37:13):
We do, but this past week, white smoke was seen
coming out of the group Amna Athletic complex in for
me that Notre Dame has elected a new quarterback.

Speaker 1 (37:23):
Bob Right the single best line I've ever heard on
the show in thirty one years. That is such a
classic statement.

Speaker 7 (37:33):
Oh and and appropriate. I mean it really is appropriate.
So question, Well, the Irish have a quarterback. It's freshman CJ.

Speaker 10 (37:46):
Carr.

Speaker 7 (37:47):
Now I thought they would hold off before naming the
starting quarterback until next week, but then I thought about it.
Last year Car only appeared in one game. He did
not throw a pass, so there's no way Miami can
really prepare for them for him unless they go back
to his high school days. So the Irish thought, really, yeah,
really showing the confidence early and probably the best decision made.

(38:11):
They've got a starting quarterback. I still see Kenny Minschie
having some special packages, but now everything is in place,
the too deep rotation. It's time to play football.

Speaker 1 (38:21):
Yeah it is. It can't get here fast enough, quite frankly,
and having this decision made with this amount of time,
I think it takes a lot of pressure in some respects.
It takes a whole lot of pressure off of CJ.
It takes a lot of pressure off coach. Everyone can
settle in, do their jobs and get prepared for Southern.

Speaker 7 (38:43):
Cow exactly right. And it was a very tight fallcamp
competition between Carr and Kenny Mitchie. They're both worthy of
the positions, but you'll see Minshi get some packages. But
the coaches were really impressed by CJ. Carr's leadership and
his decision making ability. He brings big play potential and confidence.
These are the traits that ultimately lifted him over Minshew

(39:05):
for that starting quarterback position. He's got a big arm,
He's a prototypical quarterback six three two ten, and look
for him to be vertical going and throwing the ball deep,
and that's something that Notre Dame did not do last year.
But when you've got great weapons like Jaden Greathouse and
Jordan Faison, look for Notre Dame to really open up
the field, and I think CJ. Carr is the type

(39:26):
of quarterback to do that.

Speaker 1 (39:28):
I think what's lost though in some of this len
is they had a tremendous run a year ago. Everybody
understands that and that is a carryover I think for
a lot of those kids into this year. I would
be excited about this group, knowing the people that they have,
and also the success that they had last year and

(39:50):
the momentum that they can continue to bring into this season.

Speaker 7 (39:55):
Once again, Bob, you're speaking exactly what the Irish nation
is going to expect. Last Riley Leonard a very good quarterback,
but he was managing.

Speaker 1 (40:03):
CJ.

Speaker 7 (40:04):
Carr has the ability to lead right and he doesn't
need to do everything himself. He is just an integral
part of the offense. They've got the weapons. If he
can just play his type of game, good things may happen.
We're talking about it all the time. Stay healthy, that's
going to be the key. But on paper, Notre Dame
looks very good. But remember this CJ. Carr, Richard Frishman.

(40:25):
He's untested, so a lot of responsibility, a lot is
going to be expected of him. But remember he's just
a young guy.

Speaker 1 (40:32):
I need you to hang on through the short break.
Can you do that?

Speaker 10 (40:34):
Sure?

Speaker 1 (40:35):
Will perfect? Lynn Clark and I will come back talk
more Notre Dame football on Indiana Sports Sock. Welcome back everyone.
This is Indiana Sports Song brought to you by Indiana
Donor Network. Doctor Lynn Clark, Irish one oh one rejoins us.
All right, so we've got preparation for the opener. Are

(40:58):
the injury why they're manageable right now? Do they have
any significant injuries?

Speaker 7 (41:04):
Lynn, Well, the biggest injuries for a couple of weeks
ago when Kevin Bauman, a tight end six year player,
was injured. He just gave it up. He medically retired.
That's really the only thing we have heard coming out
of the camp. But obviously in camp there's going to
be some nagging injuries, but nothing that is not going
to keep them out. But everybody seems to be healthy.

(41:26):
Let's just keep it that way. But a lot of
optimism going into the season. But about one thing that
you said before going into the break, I really never
thought about, and that's the pressure. You said the pressure
is off Marcus Freeman. I don't know if pressure is
ever off for the start.

Speaker 1 (41:39):
Oh no, no, no, not at all.

Speaker 7 (41:41):
Yeah, but in this day of nil and just college
football in general, with the transferring, you really have to
think about the decision of going with the starting quarterback.
You know, they recruited CJ.

Speaker 4 (41:52):
Carr.

Speaker 7 (41:52):
His grandfather was Lloyd Carr, they head coach at Michigan.
But there are so many different things that it's almost like, hey,
we commitment, we have to do this, And I don't
know if that's the case, but it was a fall
camp where it really came down to competition and and
we'll see how this quarterback situation will progress in the

(42:13):
first couple of weeks.

Speaker 1 (42:14):
Well, I think it's important too in terms of we
understand how important good starts are, especially in college football.
You don't have a lot of games and you have
zero margin for air if you expect to play for championships,
and so you need a great start and the best
way to get a great start is have the control uncertainty,

(42:37):
have a certain level of surety in terms of what
you're doing. You know, it's if you can name starters
at all spots, have them locked in, have them ready
to go, rather than still have some doubts in terms
of what you're doing. I think that consistency, that normalcy,
if you will, is incredibly important to you, and that
was the.

Speaker 7 (42:57):
Theme of the fall camp. Consistency be can consistent in
all levels, and if you do that, then good things
will happen when you when you based it on the
culture as well. But I just go back once again CJ. Carr,
redshirt freshman, not a lot of playing experience, and so
a lot is expected from this individual. One thing to
tell the Irish nation a little patience. The patience pays

(43:19):
off in the long run, right.

Speaker 1 (43:21):
Good luck on that. By the way, I'm looking at
the schedule at Miami on the thirty first, uh. And
then we talked about bye last well bye week, Yeah,
bye week, bye week, and then Texas A and m
You know you talk about a good start. Those two

(43:41):
are challenging, without question, a couple of challenges to begin
the season.

Speaker 7 (43:46):
Well, Notre it end does not done down the schedule.
It is a gauntlet, and I think that's what you
really need to play in this day of age where
it comes down to, you know, how many plays you
had against a top ten team and that's going to
be a factor in the college football playoffs and so
if you're going to be the best, you have to
play the best. But from a fans perspective, it is

(44:09):
a schedule that the fans are really looking forward to,
and I know the players are too.

Speaker 1 (44:14):
Doctor Linn Clark, Irish one on one Notre Dame football
right around the corner, Lynn, thanks for the time have
a great week.

Speaker 7 (44:22):
Thanks Pop.

Speaker 1 (44:23):
Coming up top of the our score update with Jase Hodge.
