As for the NASCAR Extanity Series, we've been talking about
it all night long. The Mission two hundred was one
by Connor Zillis. That's his second win at Waltkins Glenn.
He won there on debut last year. This is his
sixth win of the twenty two five season for nineteen
year old rookie, seventh win of his career. Unfortunately, while
Connor was celebrating, Stone Rupe's car, Spoo got caught in
the winternets, slipping fell and he broke his collarbone. In

(04:10):
a weird turn of events. He was scheduled to compete
in tomorrow's NASCAR Cup Series race, but that team has

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Welcome back everyone on Bob Lovel.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
This is Indiana's Sports Stop Indiana Fever Tonight, ninety two
to seventy winners over the Chicago Sky Network. Indiana's Nathaniel Finch.
You hear him on the show from time to time.
At the game tonight doing extra your duty for us.
What a great win for the Fever tonight, Nathaniel.

Speaker 6 (05:04):
Yeah, sure was ninety two to seventy like you mentioned,
and boy it was much needed. Losing two state and
losing both of your point guards, so this team didn't
have a single point guard on the roster found a
way to get the win in convincing fashion.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
In front of a sellout crowd.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
I want to remind everyone that's seventeen thousand people and
it is August, okay, And yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
We may not have invented basketball.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
We all understand that saying and all of that, but
you can't find a more loyal group of human beings
than Fever fans and Pacer fans right now. If you
like basketball, you need to be at Gainbridge Field US
because you're going to see a great show like they put.

Speaker 6 (05:49):
On tonight and coach, like I said, that was without
Caitlin Clark, so you sell the place out, you fill
it up without the star is pretty impassive.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Yeah, that's even more impressive.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
But I'll tell you what, it's just I think it
underscores how deep this team is. You said it starting
out at the beginning of the year they had. Depth
was one of the big keys for them. And Kelsey
Mitchell is as good as anybody out.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
There right now.

Speaker 6 (06:17):
Yeah, absolutely, twenty six points. She is on pace if
she continues this pace of around twenty points a game
to break some Fever records by the end of the
year scoring wise, but tonight she had twenty six. And
here's the big thing, Coach, eight assists.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
You know how important this is. She is eight.

Speaker 6 (06:33):
She's the girl you handed the basketball, say go get
me a bucket. Well, without any of your three point guards,
she kind of took a bigger role in dishing out
the ball and she did a great job there as
a huge key tonight.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
Huge key got great performances off the Beusch by a
number of people, but they had go to player and
Kelsey Mitchell. You get the great inside out there. You
know with the Leah Boston listen, they're talented. They are
a talented, talented group. And kudos to management for putting
together such a resilient group.

Speaker 6 (07:04):
And how about this too, Sophie Cunningham, Lexi Hole a
couple of guards. They played the point for quite a
while tonight, but they each had three or more threes.
So especially Lexi Hole was four of six. Coach, she
had missed her last twelve straight threes. She hadn't seen
one going in four games. Well today she certain in
the friendly confines.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
So they've converted him, made him point guards. You can
do that, look, basketball players are basketball players. The thing
that they do, they just keep finding ways to win.
They're playing as well as anybody in the league right now.

Speaker 6 (07:37):
Yeah, and I get Chicago one of the bottom feeders.
I think they're tied for maybe the worst record in
the WNBA, pretty close to it. But this is still
a fantastic coaching job from Stephanie White. What you said,
you had to turn your center into the point guard,
you had to turn your three into the point guard.
It was pretty incredible to see the coaching job here.
And they just put together a complete game start to finish.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
Coach, that just.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Pressing because you know, a couple of nights ago, well,
last night on the show we're talking about, I was
talking about how demoralized they had.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
To be with the just unbelievable injury situation.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
And now come out tonight you talk about picking up
a franchise and showing you what you were about. That's
a perfect example of way to make the way to
make a statement.

Speaker 6 (08:21):
And you know what, they didn't show the fatigue because coach,
this was their sixth game in eleven days, back to back,
every other night, and then you lose three of your players. Well, now,
all of a sudden. Everyone has to play more minutes,
and they didn't show it. They all played absolutely fantastic tonight.
And again I get Chicago, you're not one of the
top few teams in the league, but it's still hard
to go be the team in the w NBA, and

(08:43):
they did so convincingly.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
Always remember my favorite saying, it is hard to win.
Oh yeah, I always remember that. It doesn't matter what sport,
what level. I say it all the time, it is
hard to win. What's their schedule?

Speaker 6 (08:57):
Now they get some rest, believe it or not. They
don't play tomorrow, they don't play the next day. So
they play on Tuesday night again, a home game against
Page Becker's the top pick and the Wings. And then
they get another day off, and then they get another
day off and then they play next Friday. So you
go from playing six games in eleven days to now
you have two in the next six So pretty favorable.
A little stretch here at home for the fever.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
And this also allows Caitlin Clark to get more rest
and some practice too appeared and opportunities to practice. There
are a lot of good things about it. There's still
a lot of basketball to be played.

Speaker 6 (09:30):
Absolutely, we still have over a month left in the season,
and like you said, Clark, she's gonna start easing her
way back in. I wouldn't expect her Tuesday, and I
probably wouldn't expect her on Friday, either, But like you said,
the more practice reps you get, the more you can
get that growing tested out, the better for sure.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
How crazy was it in the building tonight? Well, I
wasn't there.

Speaker 6 (09:48):
I was hosting the pre and post game covers the Fan,
but it sounded prety loud.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
Certainly you are all over it. You're hosting on our
local station, the Fan. Nathaniel is the pre and postgame host.
It's a fun gig for you. That's great. Yeah, it's
a lot of fun.

Speaker 6 (10:06):
When I'm not with you, I gotta find something else
to spend the time, right.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
Got it all right?

Speaker 2 (10:11):
Fever win ninety two to seventy, Nathaniel Finch, great job,
Thanks so much.

Speaker 6 (10:16):
Thanks coach, Talk to you later.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
Thanks you.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
Coming up, we're gonna talk to Mike Moss, the voice
of the Fort Wayne ten Caps, after the school board
update on Network Indiana's Indiana Sports.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
Doug landy Coon's here for another scoreboard update. Even though
we just talked to Nathaniel Finch. Let's talk a little
bit more Indiana Fever. Here's John Nolan on the Fever
Radio Network.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
There's the buzzer.

Speaker 5 (10:42):
Fever, faithful rising as want to sellout crowd of seventeen,
two hundred and seventy four at game bread Fieldhouse, and
this Fever team baby, broken hearted, butt, resilient, riddle by injuries,
the Fever rebound and holding rather to beat the Sky
by a final score up ninety.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
Two to seventy.

Speaker 4 (11:05):
John Nolan said it best, brokenhearted but resilient. The injuries
Sidney Colson and Aery McDonald were already out due to
n ACL tear and a broken right foot, respectively. Still
know Caitlin Clark with their growing injury. But the Indiana
Fever take down in Chicago Sky ninety two to seventy.
Kelsey Mitchell leading score for the Fever with twenty six points,

(11:26):
Lexi Hall was seventeen, Sophie Cunningham sixteen, and a Leah
Boston with fifteen. Looking down the rest of the order.
Here the MLB, the Los Angeles Angels take down the
Detroit Tigers seven to four. Cincinnati Red It's two to
one over the Pittsburgh Pirates, Cleveland Guardians three to one
over the Chicago White Sox, in the Chicago Cubs nine
to one over the Saint Louis Cardinals. We talked Howard

(11:49):
Kellman earlier that the Indianapolis Indians lose to the Omaha Storm
Chasers ten to four. In here just a little bit,
we're gonna talk to Mike Moss as he had today's
coverage of the Fort Wayne tin Caps and spoiler, they
did not get the result they were looking for as
the South Bed Cubs defeated them four to one. With
he for Mike Moss here in this a little bit,
and I'm assuming here later tonight too, we will also
hear from our own Brendan King for Network Indiana Sports

(12:12):
Alana Coons.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
Welcome back, everyone.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
This is Indiana Sports Talk bront to you by Indiana
Donor Network. What would high school football and football in
general be without their best friend, the man who has
literally written the book. It's called the Indiana Football Digest.
If you don't have your copy already, you still have time.
Paul Condrey joins me, the publisher of the Indiana Football Digest,

(12:42):
the founder of the regional radio sports network, Hall of Fame, broadcaster,
Hall of Fame guy, and the best friend football has
in the state of Indiana.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
Paul, It's been too long since you and I last talked.

Speaker 7 (12:55):
Coach. Great to be with you, Excited for another season,
excited about this football digest, Excited to be taking another
trip around the sun, and of course hanging out with
you during the fall is always very very special. Glad
to be on with you, and of course the Big Show,
which becomes even more legendary as the I'd like to

(13:16):
say as the years go by, but I'm going to
say as the decades.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
Go by, well, listen, the cool thing is we've been
on thirty two years. You've done your magazine for a
similar number of years, and so we didn't start out
to do these things literally side by side, but that's
how it's evolved.

Speaker 7 (13:36):
It has. This is book number thirty three, and you
and I have been doing this radio show really for
all its the purposes, because Indiana Sports Talk has been
affiliated at every station that I have been on for
the most part, and so we've been doing this in
some capacity with the Big Show for all thirty two years.
Excited about what you guys have done in the past,

(13:56):
excited for what's going on in the future and things
on the horizon as we unveil the twenty twenty five
football season here in the Hoosier State, a lot of
moving parts. Things are still fluid, as they say, but
you know, hey, we're gonna we're gonna get on right
here and two Fridays and it's going to be fun.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
We do not have any idea what the new IHSAA
rule regarding transfers might be. And I'm sure that in
your off season you've had a great chance to talk
to a number of coaches about what they think might
happen and could happen because of this new rule.

Speaker 7 (14:34):
Well, I tell you what, coach, I know that you
and I are relatively close in age, and we don't
like it. We believe that being with your teammates when
you make when you sign on the diating line, or
if you go into a school, that's where you should stay. Obviously,
if mom and dad move halfway across the country's state,
that's a whole nother dynamic. But there's a lot to

(14:55):
be learned and there's a lot to be experienced by
being with a group guys for four years. I think
you could say the same thing. Just because it's good
into college level doesn't make it good for high school football.
But as they say, everything kind of trickles itself down.
I don't like it. I don't like the fact that
student athletes are bailing and I'm going to use that

(15:18):
term playing simple bailing on their teammates, because to me,
that's exactly what it is. I don't like the fact
that uh school A is befit benefiting because so and
so was disappointed because lack of playing time, because he
didn't like the coach, didn't like the school uniforms, and

(15:38):
I know one particular situation happened this year, didn't like
the jersey number that he was assigned to. I mean,
what have we gotten ourselves into? And I tell you what,
It's an alarming situation, quite frankly, And you can send
all the cards and letters and emails my way. I
just plant it simple. I'm not going to spend a

(15:58):
lot of time talking about athletes that are transferring from
pointing to appointment. So a lot of great kids who
have bought into the team mindset, who have paid their price,
who have gone to every two today, got to every practice,
haven't missed a weight session. Those are the kids I
want to talk about. And I'm not talking about transfers,
I'm not talking about anything. I want to talk about

(16:19):
those kids who have ate it and drank it and
slept it from the time they were watching the older
boys running out of those tunnels and onto those fields
when they were in fourth and fifth and sixth grade,
dreaming it some day that they were going to have
an opportunity to where those beautiful school colors that are
their home. And that's what I want to talk about.

(16:40):
That's why I'm going to concentrate my efforts on talking
about this year, and I hope we'll do that on
the show.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
To that end, let's talk about the twenty twenty five
Indiana Football digest. On it you have your top twenty
five players and it just we talk about this from
time to time on the show. The quality of kids
continues to improve. The number of quality players in our
state that we're turning out to who move on to
Power Conference opportunities at the Division IE level continues with

(17:09):
this group this year.

Speaker 7 (17:11):
Yeah, that's a pretty talented group of guys and a
lot of guys going to a marquee schools. Some of
my favorite stories of our primetime twenty five are those
kids that are you know, kind of on the fringe
between the Division one, you know, and the Division twos
in three areas and even to then high schools. I
think those are some of those exciting games I've For instance,

(17:31):
I ran into Bull Polston, who's quarterback at Decatur Central,
when we were down at the All Star Game, and
I know he has chosen he's going to go off
to Toledo and play for that really fine program. And
as I talked to kids throughout the course of the season,
I spoke with Jet Goldsberry, and I'm excited for him
and the opportunity he's going to have going to be
playing in the Southeastern Conference, and I think it's neat.

(17:52):
I think it's a neat for these kids to have
those opportunities. But there's some of those kids that are
borderline that may not ever have a chance to r
the you know, seventy five thousands seat stadiums that they're
going to be still playing at some pretty good places
on Saturdays where they're gonna get a great education. And
I'm excited for some of those kids that are kind
of on the cusp. But are just great high school

(18:14):
football players. They may not ever see you down, they
may not ever start at their relative college that they're
going to go to, right, but there's some pretty good
kids there. And there's a whole bunch of kids that
didn't make the Prime Time twenty five that we'll be
talking about you and I throughout the course of the season.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
All right, let's start with six A.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
Talk about your Dandy dozen and the Indiana Football Digest.
At six A, not surprisingly, the defending champs, the Brownsburg
Bulldogs rank number one, followed by Lawrence, North, Westfield, Center, Grove, Decatur, Central, Hamilton, Southeastern, Fisher's, Columbus, North,

(18:53):
Crown Point, Carmel, Warren Central, and Ben Davis.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
Clearly, a lot of.

Speaker 2 (18:57):
Familiar names sit a top the polls in your magazine
and other various sources, and hard to argue with the
defending champs in the run they were on a year ago.

Speaker 7 (19:11):
Yeah, I don't think there's any question about that. And
I think that, Uh, the scary thing about Brownsburg probably
a half a dozen of their players were talented sophomores.

Speaker 1 (19:21):
Yeah, so we could be we could be.

Speaker 7 (19:23):
A group here that and I know you remember back
in those days when Warren Central won their four straight
four sight championships, and but that back in those days
with those who have us in five A for all
intentsive purposes. But there's some really really special UH teams
right here. You look at what Eric Moore has done
at Center Grove over these many many years. He's done that.

(19:45):
I really like, uh, you know what. You know, John
Hart just had a he had a magical season when
you think about the fact that they were on the
ropes against Ben Davis and you found themselves in a
situation where they were able to bounce back and somehow,
some way found a way to get to the state
championship game and won. He ended up winning the Colts

(20:08):
Coach of the Week UH and the co Coach of
the Year, and ended up winning the Don Schue Award
for the National Coach of the Year first time in
Indiana high school football, which has ever won that procedures,
had a chance to go to the uh, you know,
the Super Bowl, all kinds of neat things. So I
think John is his team is without question the best team, UH,
not only on paper but on the field, because they're

(20:30):
that talented group of guys coming back and you know then,
and they're loaded, making no mistake about it. But I
tell you what, you know, Santa Grove is a team
that you always got to keep an eye on. They
have an unbelievable streak of opportunities to get deep into
the tournament series because they come from the Deep South,
and there's not a lot of power I think coming

(20:51):
from the Deep South. I think there's If there's a
record that I thought that would never be broken, was
going to be Hobert's nineteen consecutive ectional championships. But I
think at some point in time, because of where Center
Grove is at geographically, unless somebody comes up and just
totally shocks the snot out of us. Quite frankly, they're

(21:12):
probably going to at some point in time. Eric Moore
is going to break that nineteen And think about that
nineteen straight years of when it's eectional. I mean, uh,
you know, there are a few years away from doing that,
But make no mistake about it, that's pretty special. And and
of course we've got some teams in here that you know,
people are going to say, boy, this is really Indianapolis
area heavy. Well look at the look at the history

(21:36):
of it, right, look at six a's and six a
has been there. Who's won it. Everybody who's won it
has been from Central Indiana, and I still think until
somebody can break through from any other geographical part of
the state, I think that's what we're going to continue
to see. I know, you know, Penn and Carol fort Wayne,
I know they tried to, you know, get in a
situation where they were going to hope to win Crown Point.

(21:57):
It was there a couple of years ago. But they've
got those teams got a lot of room to work
hard to get there.

Speaker 2 (22:04):
Paul hang on on what you needed to take a
scoreboard update break, We'll come back talk more high school
football with Paul Condrey on Indiana Sports Talk.

Speaker 4 (22:14):
The Indianapolis Colts are coming off their Thursday night preseason
Week one loss against the Baltimore Ravens twenty four to sixteen.
Anthony Rigison did not have a great day at Colts
Can today. He struggled to play after that dislocated piky
finger and went one of six on full eleven on eleven,
Although he did hit two throws to eighty Mitchell while
being seven on seven. Richardson wasn't able to connect with

(22:37):
Ashton Dowlan had a good pass to Michael Pittman Junior,
but it was ultimately dropped in the end zone. He
did have one completion slant to Alec Pearce. Dale Jones
on the other end, did have a pretty solid day,
going five to six on full eleven on eleven and
four of four on seven. On seven, Jones was able
to connect with Tyler Warren and Moe Ali Cox. Colts

(22:58):
Camp back in action tomorrow and Monday, same time as
Birthday from four to five thirty. Then Thursday, it's that
joint practice with the Green Bay Packers going from three
to five o'clock. Green Bay Packers and Adappoisult will face
off a week from today at Lucas Oil Stadium. It
He had a Fever get the ninety two to seventy
win over the Chicago Sky on Stranger Things Night. Kelsey

(23:21):
Mitchell was the lead scorer for the Fever with twenty
six points, Lexie Hall was seventeen, Sophie Cunningham sixteen, and
Eliah Boston with fifteen. The Fever broken hearted but resilient,
as John Nolan stated on the Fever Radio Network, still
know Caitlin Clark. She's out with her groin injury. Sidney Colson,
she's out for this year. She had an acltair and

(23:42):
Aery McDonald done for the year as well with a
broken right foot. In the MiLB Adieapplist, Indians lose to
the Omaha Storm Chasers ten to four. In the South
Bend Cubs four to one over the Fort Waynington Caps
for Network Indiana Sports Amaina Coons.

Speaker 1 (23:59):
Welcome back, heverybody. This is Indiana Sports Talk.

Speaker 2 (24:02):
Paul Condrey and I were talking about high school football coming.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
Up in two weeks on the twenty second.

Speaker 2 (24:07):
Make sure you go out and get your copy of
the Indiana Football Digest.

Speaker 1 (24:11):
It is out.

Speaker 2 (24:12):
Go to Indiana's in Indiana Football Digest dot Com ordered online.

Speaker 1 (24:18):
What retailers can we go to and find the magazine?

Speaker 7 (24:20):
Paul, your local high schools, that would be their best
bet to go or buy it at Indiana Football Digest
dot Com. Coach, that's your best way to go.

Speaker 1 (24:27):
Supports your local high school.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
Okay, this is a way for them to make money too, right, Paul,
we were talking about six A. We talked about Brownsburg,
how about Lawrence Dorth What a great run they had
last year. A lot of those guys are back, and
we also talked about Westfield.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
You mentioned Center Grove.

Speaker 2 (24:42):
A lot a lot of very solid football teams in
six A, as it seems to be the case most years.

Speaker 7 (24:48):
Yeah, I think that, and I think the team that
really kind of is the most intriguing of all those,
as you mentioned as Decatur Central, just Cater Central of
course last year the five A champion. They get bumped
up because they have a all right, right, a very
underclassmen heavy group is moving forward, you know, loaded by
the linebackers. Michael Campbell, Braydon Smith had a great year
a year ago. You can also certainly mention the Kashmir Hicks,

(25:11):
a great defensive back just the name of I think
Farrell Carter, another great player is also in that group.
And of course I already mentioned Boll Polston. So they
have five players as good as anybody that you're going
to be able to collectively put together on a football field,
and we're going to see how they're going to be
able to compete at the six A level. I know

(25:32):
there's some people's questions, what are you putting a five
A team that has no six A experience in the
all the way up to number five in your pole. Well,
I think that was the reason, Justino. You can just
name those five kids because those five kids are all
going to be playing Division one football. Pretty talented group.
It's going to be interesting to see how that team
kind of plays itself out. But yeah, there's a lot

(25:52):
of talent in this in this group. The team I
think that could surprise some people in the northern half
of the tournament is Penn. I know Vinnie Freeman defensive
back as a talented player. He's going to try to
lead that Penn team down I now. Of course, his
dad's a pretty good football coach over there at the
University of Notre Dame. But there's some there's some talented
guys in this group. Elkhart is a group that led

(26:13):
by linebacker Crouch Jones is a pretty talented kid. But
it'll be fun to see how plays itself out. Will
Crownpoint do they have enough to get back? They lost
their quarterback, so that's the biggest question in their camp.
But six A I think is pretty wide open. I
don't think there's one team that you can say guaranteed.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
To run at all.

Speaker 7 (26:31):
But I'm not a betting man, but I certainly have
to have a hard time betting against John Hart's talented
group with their quarterback and that group coming back there outstanding.

Speaker 1 (26:40):
Paul Andrey with us.

Speaker 2 (26:41):
We're talking about high school football in his it will
begin very very soon.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
Paul, we got a couple of minutes here. Here's what
I'm gonna do.

Speaker 2 (26:49):
I'm gonna save five A and four A and those
guys are next week, you and I we'll talk about
that again and overview though of it just seems like
every year we talk about out the same same teams.

Speaker 1 (27:02):
Who can make a breakthrough in in five A and
six A.

Speaker 7 (27:05):
Well, I'll tell you what six A. I think the
like I said, I think the Decatur Central is the
is the team that I think uh is is the
one the team that has a lot to prove. I
think a team my concord in in five A. I
think this is a very very interesting group. They're not
They're not going to have a home game this year
because uh the football stadium is under construction, the new

(27:26):
field turf, So that's going to be interesting how they
fix up Jake Field. I think Merrayville and newpal Epis
Cathedral are the three best teams. Marrival's got a great
tandem in the backfield and the new pal very very
talented group. But you know, coach Peebles has done a
spectacular job a cathe do. They just lock and loaded,
right and just kind of red, you know, just kind

(27:47):
of retool and get ready to go. I would say this,
I'm going to go out on the limb and say
it'll take a monumental effort for Warsaw to make a
trip down to the state finals and be as magical
as that run for the electorary Curtis as he did
a season ago. And look out for East Central. East Central,
of course, who took a year off, if you will,
didn't make it to the state championship game. They have

(28:09):
the same type of talent in their group and we
have them in our preseason number five. They have the
same talent group that just a couple of years ago
were the four A state champions. So they're building another group,
pretty talented group to be there. And of course I'd
be remiss if I didn't. You know, I'll mention that
Plainfield team. I know that's the heart of Bob level
right there. Those Quakers. We get them at number ten, right,

(28:31):
and the Blessed Boys if if anybody can do it,
they can do it right.

Speaker 2 (28:34):
All right, Paul, you were fantastic. If it's okay with you,
we'll do some of this next week and talk about
five A four, A three, A two A single A
Paul Condrey, Indiana Football Digest.

Speaker 1 (28:46):
Make sure you get a copy of it. Paul. Thanks,
have a great weekend.

Speaker 7 (28:49):
Thanks Gy, it's great to be with you. Help you
have a great year.

Speaker 1 (28:52):
Thank you. Fever and.

Speaker 2 (29:03):
Talk a little fever basketball with Scott Agnes.

Speaker 1 (29:07):
Scott, are you with me? I am here?

Speaker 8 (29:15):
How are you?

Speaker 1 (29:16):
Scotty Agnes?

Speaker 2 (29:17):
What a big night down at gamebridge Field House, Fever
ninety two seventy winners over the sky. What a fantastic
performance by an.

Speaker 1 (29:27):
Injury riddled line of What a tremendous win for them.

Speaker 8 (29:30):
Yeah, it was important because both they had lost a
couple of games, but more the emotional toll it's been
over the last less than forty eight hours. You go
to Phoenix, you'll you get have three players get injured.
You lose two players for the rest of the season,
including two other point guards. You come into this game,
coach without any of your three starting point guards, and
you gotta figure it out.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
They seem to have figured it out. One of the
things is just let Chelsea Mitchell be Chelsea Mitchell.

Speaker 8 (29:59):
Yeah, Kelsey's fan tastic and what she's able to do.
And the difference is so many different players coach were
playing out of position. Tonight, Mitchell had to put some
point guard something for the post game that she hadn't
done primary ball handling duty since her time at Ohio State,
right when she was one of the best scorers in
the country. Saw Sophie Cunningham start the game at point guard.
And then the other encouraging thing was you saw Lexi

(30:20):
Hall breakout of her shooting slum. That's that over the
last month and for her to knock down four to
threes that was big when they only had nine players available.

Speaker 2 (30:29):
Scott Agnes from the Fieldhouse files with us talking about
the fevers ninety two seventy went over the Chicago sky.

Speaker 1 (30:36):
You know, it gives them a huge lift to go back.

Speaker 2 (30:39):
They've been playing pretty well without Caitlin Clark, been on
one of the hottest, if not the hottest team in
the league. And this is great as they continue with
a big win tonight.

Speaker 8 (30:50):
Yeah, and that's what it's all about and especially tonight.
It's it's taking care of a game.

Speaker 3 (30:55):
You got a half.

Speaker 1 (30:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (30:56):
The only positive I would say coming out of the
last road trip they were just on the road for
four games and seven days across several time zones is
now they're playing the four bottom teams in the league,
including Chicago. So this is a team that they have
their number. They are four to zero against. They've won
by an average of twenty five points this season. But
given their circumstances, given who's not available, that's why it

(31:17):
makes this game a big positive and something that they
can go into tomorrow's off day feeling good about.

Speaker 2 (31:23):
The Other thing that's impressive, Scott is it's a sellout
Crown and the place had to be absolutely insane tonight.

Speaker 8 (31:33):
Yeah, it really was. And more than that, remember these
are nationally televised games. This was a showcase game run
on CBS Prime Time. Now it didn't work out. It's
funny the WNBA is trying to market this as rivals Rea.
Let me be clear, someone who's been around the franchise,
probably in session, this has never been a rivalry.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
The people have never looked down on the.

Speaker 8 (31:53):
Chicago's guy as a rivalry or a formidable opponent, and
so I get there's a marketing aspect, but it was
disappointing certainly that a national showcase you don't have Caitlin,
you don't have other Fever players, you don't have Angel
Reeze or Courtney Vanderslout in this one. But still the
Fever put on the show and drew.

Speaker 9 (32:13):
Big at the Fieldhouse like they.

Speaker 8 (32:15):
Have been all season, even with Caitlin only playing thirteen games.

Speaker 1 (32:18):
That's impressive for a number of reasons.

Speaker 2 (32:20):
You point out though, that they get a little time now,
got a day off tomorrow, things have will schedule lightens
up a little bit in terms of they were playing
so many games in so few days and they've been
able to weather that storm.

Speaker 8 (32:36):
Yeah, and that's something I think, coach that the WNBA
really needs to look at, among many things with this
new collective bargaining agreement, because you look around the league
and there are more than a half dozen teams coach
that are without their star player right now, starting with
probably the leader for MVP and the FISA, Collier up
in Minnesota. You have the two stars of tonight's game out.
There's too many games and not enough time in between.

(32:59):
Rents and for those that went overseas or played in
Unrivaled as well. So it's absolutely something they've got to
take a look at.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
I think you're right.

Speaker 2 (33:07):
I think they have a number of things to look
at her. What's uh, When are they back in action.

Speaker 8 (33:13):
Tuesday night against the Dallas Wings And we'll see for
example against against about Page Becker's their star player who
has missed time due to injury. So that kind of
continues into what I was talking about. But another opponent
that you should be able to take care of.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
Scott Agnes from the Fieldhouse Files, go there, get smarter
about the fever and about the Pacers fever ninety two
to seventy winners over the Sky tonight and sell out
at Gainbridge.

Speaker 1 (33:40):
Scott, thanks as always, have a great weekend, you got
it and you as well think thanks so much.

Speaker 4 (33:54):
Land Accounts here for the final scoreboard update of the night.
Christian Liingard earns pole position in the NTT IndyCar Series
for the Bitnile dot Com Grand Prix of Portland. Earns
pole his first poll of twenty twenty five, third career,
but unfortunately lung Guard was given a sixth place grid
penalty for unapproved engine adjustments giving his Aaron McLaren teammate

(34:15):
Poto Award poll elect alongside Potter Award will be Felix
Rosenquis on that front row, starting third will be Will Power.
David Malucas will start fourth. Alex Blow can clinch his
fourth championship tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (34:27):
He could.

Speaker 4 (34:28):
He'll roll off fifth, he made a rare mistake and
qualifying he knows it into the tire barrier with minimal
damage though for him. Alexander Rossi roll off sixth like
you mentioned, Christian Linguard seventh, Marcus Erickson eighth, Scott Dixon ninth,
and Marcus Erickson complete the top ten. Alex Plowa, like
we mentioned, he could clinch his fourth championship tomorrow, and
it could be his third straight in just his sixth

(34:51):
season in IndyCar. If Pulow were to get that championship,
Pelow would be tied for third all time in championships,
alongside Mario and Ready, Sebastian Bordet and his mentor Dario Frankety,
all with four championships. The only two people ahead of
them h Foyt with seven, and Alex Pelow's teammate Scott
Dixon the Iceman with six. The only other drivers with

(35:13):
at least three consecutive titles are Sebastian Boordat he has four,
and the other two each with three are Ted Horn
and Dario Frankety. Alex Blow can clinch if he finishes
ahead of Poddle Award, or if he finishes second and
scores at least one bonus point for leading a lap,
even if Award wins against max points Award in say contention,
if he outscores Plow by fourteen plus points, Orf it

(35:33):
chills by one hundred and seven points or fewer after
tomorrow's race, but never Indiana Sports elmana.

Speaker 1 (35:38):
Coons come back.

Speaker 2 (35:40):
This is Indiana Sports Talk let stuck a little minor
league baseball four point ten Caps taking on the South
Ben Cubs. We love this matchup because obviously two teams
from the state. South Ben wins this one Ford to one. Tonight,
Mike Moss, the voice of the Caps, joins me, Mike,
this sounds like a repeat last night.

Speaker 1 (36:02):
This wasn't it.

Speaker 2 (36:03):
You know, I was double checking to make sure I
had the right day in the right game.

Speaker 9 (36:08):
Yeah, it's not a repeat, viob in one way. Yeah,
two different games are played, but the result was the same.
South Bend comes away with a win, and it's it's
really hard to believe that they had the worst record
in the twelve team Midwest League in the first half
at twenty three and forty three, twenty games under five hundred.

(36:28):
Right after the game tonight they're twenty one and nineteen
in the second half forty four and sixty two.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
Overall.

Speaker 9 (36:36):
Their win covered with Peoria's loss. But South Bend I
had a Peori in the West. They now have the
second worst record in the Well actually the third worst.
Puri is worse than them, and Dating is worse than them.
But they're playing good baseball. I told you this last night. Yeah,
And tonight they got a two run homer from a

(36:59):
very good price pit shortstop Christian Hernandez and the third
inning to take the lead. First time this week. Fort
Wayne hasn't scored the game's first run.

Speaker 1 (37:08):
Wow.

Speaker 9 (37:08):
And they got another run in the third. They go
up three nothing and we got one run, we being
Fort Wayne, and that didn't come until the fifth inning,
and we were already trailing at that point. But you
got to credit a number of things. First of all,
they're getting good pitching. Their starter tonight the third time

(37:33):
he faced faced Fort Wayne and he's just a crafty
left hander. His seven shutout innings last time out in June,
and tonight he went six innings. He was aided by
two double plays in the second and third innings. And
then we mentioned his lane last night. We'll mention it
again tonight. Ario Armis was a DH tonight and all

(37:57):
we did tonight was go three for three, singles in
the double and a walk. It's his four to three
hit games this week and fifth three hit game this season,
all of which have come against Fort Wayne. And in
this series alone, he's fourteen for sixteen. That's an eight
to seventy five average. He's got the best batting average

(38:19):
in all of Minor league baseball for the month of
August at six forty and in this five games that
he's played against US this week, he's raised his batting
average up forty three points.

Speaker 1 (38:29):
Yi.

Speaker 9 (38:31):
No, and the crowd is taken to it.

Speaker 1 (38:34):
Well, yeah, why wouldn't you?

Speaker 9 (38:36):
And the kick yeats just can't get him out.

Speaker 2 (38:39):
No, I mean they're gonna look, Uh, they're gonna be
glad he's leaving town.

Speaker 9 (38:45):
Uh. Yeah. The last game of the season against four
South Bend is tomorrow afternoon, and some people in the
Summit City are saying, thank God.

Speaker 1 (38:53):
Yeah, you know what.

Speaker 9 (38:54):
This is the third six game series we played against
South Bend this year. In the first series we took
four out of six, right, and that was in South Bend.
In June, they came to Park Uwfield and took five
out of six, and now they take him for the
first five in this series here, so they have our
number this year. This is the longest rivalry that Fort

(39:17):
Wayne had since they joined the Midwest League in nineteen
ninety three, and I can remember some early years. One
year we were seventeen and one against them, one year
we were fourteen and one against them. But starting in
two thousand and five, when Mark Tayley became the manager
and they ended up winning the Midwest League championship that year,

(39:38):
that's when things started to change and South Bend has
had some much better years. TinCaps still hold the off
time series lead, but South Bend's getting a lot closer.

Speaker 2 (39:49):
South Bend beats the Fort Wayne ten Caps four to
one tonight. Mike Moss, the voice of the ten Caps
with US. Mike has always is great to talk to you.
I appreciate the call. Best of luck to you and
the Caps tomorrow wrapping up the series, and then next week.

Speaker 1 (40:09):
Nothing but the best to all of you. Thanks for
the call.

Speaker 9 (40:12):
Thanks Bob. Hope to talk to you next Friday after
we take it on West Michigan.

Speaker 1 (40:16):
I'll look forward to it. Thanks Mike.

Speaker 2 (40:21):
Welcome back everyone. I'm Bob Lovell. This is Indiana Sports Talker.
Let's get the South Bend Cubs take on this matchup
with the ten Caps.

Speaker 1 (40:29):
They went at four to one.

Speaker 2 (40:31):
Brendon King, the voice of the Cubs, joins us, what
a big win.

Speaker 1 (40:35):
It's just like.

Speaker 2 (40:36):
Last night, four to one, different way, but a great,
great win again tonight.

Speaker 3 (40:41):
Yeah, coach, I mean, I'll agree with everything Mike mag
just said on the last segment, but I'll add one
more layer to the ril armist of that oh on
South Ben Cubbs catcher coach. Literally, and this is not exaggeration,
he's the hottest hitter in all of baseball and coming
into today, had a batting average in August six eleven.
The only guy, the only guy in all of baseball

(41:04):
coach that was anywhere close right behind him was a
guy named Sho Heyotani, who plays for the La Guys Brook.
The two best hitters in all of baseball minor and
major leagues combined in August are Ari l Armis, the
fifth round pick of the Chicago Cubs last year out
of San Diego, and Shoeotani, arguably the best player in baseball.

Speaker 1 (41:23):
Coach.

Speaker 3 (41:24):
It's exceptionally sixteen for his first twenty five this month,
and he had three more hits tonight.

Speaker 9 (41:30):
All five of these.

Speaker 3 (41:31):
Games so far this week, coach against Fort Wayne are
multi hit efforts by Ari, and he's gonna try and
take that hitting streak and advance it tomorrow. But oh,
I had one more layer to this. The Cubs are
just two games back in the West Division, Coach, with
a matchup on Tuesday nights starting against the Beloit Skytgard
That's the team the Cubs are trying to catch. I
told you last night, we might be talking next weekend,

(41:52):
and by the time Friday next week rolls around, the
Cubs might be in first place.

Speaker 1 (41:56):
And it's insane.

Speaker 2 (41:57):
The numbers you're talking about are are just I believe you.
I know you're not making this up, but it's just
it's hard, and no, it's hard. To process, you know,
hitting over six hundred in a month and just past
you know, this past week. Well, he's like on fourteen
you know, fourteen of sixteen and plate appearances at one

(42:19):
particular point. These are staggering numbers that the likes of
which you've never seen before.

Speaker 3 (42:24):
Yeah, coach, he's fourteen for sixteen in this series, five
game fourth against Fort Wayne, and earlier in the series
he reached base safely in twelve straight plate appearances. Oh,
the guy's just on a heater of another world. And
I'll tell you, coach, Monday is an off day for
the South Bend Cubs. Not sure if Alreie wants to
take that day off. He wants to keep on hitting
every single day.

Speaker 1 (42:44):
Oh, I would think he'll be living in the cage
on Monday. Are you kidding?

Speaker 7 (42:48):
You? Bet it?

Speaker 1 (42:49):
You've bet be crazy not to which gott to be
an uplifting thing.

Speaker 2 (42:53):
And the other part of it is, who wouldn't want
to go out to the yard and watch this kid play?

Speaker 3 (42:58):
It's exceptional and sadly, coach, the longest home stand of
the season for the South Bend Cubs is ending tomorrow,
So last chance tomorrow at two oh five, minutes, get
in that big series and Beloit starts on Tuesday. Tubs
will be back home the week after, but massive series
comes up in Wisconsin Tuesday night.

Speaker 1 (43:15):
I vie you.

Speaker 2 (43:16):
You've got a front row seat, so uh got another
reason why I view you. Brendan King South Ben Cubs
four to one winners over the ten Caps. Thanks, brother,
have a great week. We'll talk to you next weekend.

Speaker 3 (43:29):
Coach, looking forward to it.

Speaker 1 (43:29):
Thanks, thanks so much. Fantastic numbers.

Speaker 2 (43:33):
Oh my goodness, trying to process all those numbers.

Speaker 1 (43:39):
What a great night. What are just a fantastic night?

Speaker 2 (43:41):
My thanks as always two Landon Coons to Jace Hodge,
Cayden Colford. Tremendous job, gentlemen. Thanks to our tremendous stations
around the state to bring you the show over Friday
and Saturday night.

Speaker 1 (43:55):
And thanks to all of you for thirty one years
now thirty two.

Speaker 2 (44:00):
You mentioned the most listened to sports talk show in
the state's history. It is the legendary Indiana Sports Talk
