Speaker 1 (00:10):

football coming up tomorrow. Right now. Though he's the star
of the show for a good reason. He's the best

(00:33):
at the school board updates. It's Network Indiana's Brendan King.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
This Indiana Sports Talk scoreboard update is brought to you
by Quality Supply and Tool in Indianapolis, Bloomington, Jefferson, Villa Lafayette,
Think outside the box store, Quality Supply and toool dot Com.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Coach, you are the best. Great to be back in
town with you and Ethan Patterson here in the studio.
Let's get right to it. We've got our fourth overtime
game rolling into the studio tonight. This 's one requiring
double overtime from up in the two six to zero
in double ot Fort Wayne Bishop Lures thirty one, Fort

(01:09):
Wayne North twenty eight, and a barn burner from the fort.
Other games requiring overtime tonight and included Centerville's overtime win
against Try thirty one to thirty. Elsewhere an extra time
Greenfield Central over Shelbyville twenty eight to seven, and our
final overtime game Northwood twenty two north Ridge twenty one.

(01:31):
Besides that double ot game featuring Lures and North, the
other three being decided by one point each. Teams revving
up to scoreboard tonight, Lawrence North scoring seventy seven points.
That's tied for the most on the night over Arsenal Tech.
It was a shutout for Good Measures seventy seven to nothing.

(01:52):
Cascade also put up a fingerprint identical score seventy seven
to nothing over Frankfurt, so seventy seven point points the
most on the evening. Those two shutouts among eighteen whitewashes
on the night. Some scores we have yet to touch
on and included Rushville over Connersville thirty two to twenty eight.

(02:13):
Shenandoah beat Park Tutor forty one to twenty one. It
was North de Catur shutting out Switzerland County twenty seven
to nothing. North to Cator, the number one team in
Class A, number one from Class two AA also rolled
fourteen to seven. Adams Central defeated Heritage number one Heritage
Hills from Class four AD. No issue with Washington forty

(02:33):
nine to seven. You'll hear more from Andrew Smith here
in a moment about New Palestine's win over Penalty Heights
forty two to six. New Peal the number one team
in five A and six a's number one club. Brownsburg
took care of Fisher's forty two to fourteen Christmas addics,
one of those eighteen shutouts. Christmas addics over Purdue Anglewood

(02:54):
sixty two to nothing. It was Edgewood blanking West Vigo
thirty five to zip. Calium met over Bowman Academy fifty
two to sixteen, Carmel Stazot number four from Class six
A fifty six to seven. They pounded Columbus North. I'll
do some college football for doing Notutre Dame tomorrow in
South Bend the Irish ro Zo and two. They're still

(03:16):
ranked number twenty four. They are favored by twenty four
and a half points over the Boilers. Barry Odam taking
his bullet makers into South ben tomorrow, he talked about
the matchup.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
You can't make mistakes against a good team like we
did and expect to win.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
So we've got to create turnovers on defense, we can't give.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Away three scoring opportunities.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
In the red zone.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
And when you do those things, you will make it really,
really difficult to play winning football.

Speaker 5 (03:44):
And that's that's kind of where we were at the
other night.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
Odum referencing the mistakes made last week against USC over
DeMarcus Freeman two heartbreaking losses against Miami and Texas A
and M. The difference between winning and losing for Freeman
not much.

Speaker 6 (03:58):
The difference between winning and losing versus good teams is
consistency when it matters the most. We got to make
the play. I mean, we've got to do our job
and then execute me. That's the difference. When two really
good teams play each other, it's who can be most consistent.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
Irish and the Boilers at three thirty from Notre Dame
Stadium Ball State on the road. The Cardinals are one
and two. Mikey Romovich in his first season. They take
on Yukon out East at three point thirty. Number nine
Illinois matches up with number nineteen Indiana tomorrow and Bloomington's
seven to thirty start. Kurt Signetti on what impresses them
about the Alina.

Speaker 7 (04:32):
They do a nice job of disguising coverage. Got some
nice disguises. They play a lot of guys, got a
lot of good players. Run to the ball, get a
lot of hats to the football. You know, good pressure
on the quarterback type coverage really tied together well with
good players.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Who's your's favored by six and a half points. FCS
football Indiana State on the road out west in Missoula.
They'll take on Montana at three val Barrezos in North
Dakota tomorrow afternoon at four of the Butler Bulldogs and
Ogden Utah on ze PM start against Weber's state.

Speaker 5 (05:07):
Segregated schools, promising the American dream to everyone. The dream
of Oliver Brown was quality education for all children, but
in many schools, children are being left behind. The responsibility
of educating Indiana students rests on us all, from educators
and administrators to parents and community leaders. Brown's dream of
a quality education is the birthright of every Hoosier and

(05:30):
a civil rights guaranteed to us by the State of Indiana.
If you feel your civil rights or those of your
child have been neglected, or that your child has been
purposely denied access to the education resources, you have options
call the Indiana Civil Rights Commission at one eight sixty six.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
Fair for you.

Speaker 5 (05:48):
That's one eight sixty six, three three two four seven
four eight, or visit our website at i dot gov
slash ICRC. This message is brought to you by the
State of Indiana Civil Rights Commissioned.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
Welcome back everyone, This is Indiana's courts off. We were used
to turn to our conversation with Andrew Smith and the
New pal Radio Network. New Pal Beat spindled the nights
tonight battle of two ranked teams. Very impressive win for
Newpal tonight, Andrew, as we were talking about before the
school board up.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
Day, Yeah, I think what was really impressive was just
how much New Palaceine dominated both lines of scrimmage. And
they took the opening kickoff and you could tell the
game plan was to establish the running game, and seven
consecutive running plays led to a Kat and Jacobe a

(06:49):
touchdown that was finished with a beautiful spin move to
free himself in the open field. And then after forcing
a three and out, they get the ball back and
five run plays and a long pass to kill Butler. Later,
Kate and Jacobe is in the end zone again and
very quickly it's fourteen to nothing. Pendleton Heights did not
get a first down until the four minute mark of

(07:09):
the second quarter, and at that point newpal had opened
up a thirty five to nothing lead, and it was
just another impressive performance by the Dragons. Seven different players
caught a pass in this game. Jacob Davis was thirteen
to fifteen, passing for two hundred and two yards. One
of the two incompletions was a drop that would have

(07:31):
been a touchdown. The other was a fifty yard pass
that he led his receiver by about a half a
yard too much, or that too would have been a touchdown.
So he had a really good game and could have
been and it could have hit even better. But Kate
and Jacoba. The guy came in averaging fourteen yards to
carry and last year he was the number two back,

(07:52):
kind of dealt with some injuries, but he's been the
feature back this year. He had one hundred and thirty
two yards on fourteen carries and as well. A guy
who kind of does everything defensively is Garrett Rains. He
had a fumble recovery tonight last week, had a blocked
kick and a bunch of tackles for a loss. Tonight
well he gets in on the offensive action, he reeled

(08:13):
in a long touchdown path. Connor Jacobia had a fifty
four yard touchdown reception. Both of those their first catch
of the season going for touchdowns and just an impressive performance.
New Pal's number one defense has allowed one touchdown all season.
That was the first drive in Week two against the
cater Central. Pendleton scored on the last play of the

(08:34):
game to cut the lead to forty two to six
and set the final margin tonight. But that is probably
what's been most impressive about this New Pal team. They're
scoring a lot of points for moving the ball really well,
but defensively, nobody has moved the ball on them at
all this season. And they held Pendleton Heights to one
hundred and forty five totally yards tonight right like they've

(08:54):
been able to do. They got them to abandon the
running game really really early and force them to be.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
One to make. Andrew Smith from the New Palestine Radio
Network Newpal forty two to six winners tonight over Pendleton Heights.
Thank you, Andrew, I appreciate the call. Have a great weekend.

Speaker 4 (09:15):
Thanks you too.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
Josh Miracle joins me, the head coach at Westfield. They're
number four in six A. Tonight they beat number ten
Hamilton Southeastern twenty one to seventeen. Coach, thanks so much
for the call. Seems like a great game tonight. Congratulations,
thank you, appreciate it.

Speaker 8 (09:32):
A bove of our guys for finding a way. Certainly
wasn't pretty all the time on our end, but nonetheless
found a way there at the end.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
I wouldn't think it'd be pretty because you played a
really good football team.

Speaker 8 (09:43):
They are excellent, and they're well coached. You know, have
the utmost respect for coach Kelly and his staff, and
you know it's been a pretty close game here the
last couple of years between.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
Us, all right, So how are you able to make
this a w for your guys?

Speaker 9 (09:59):
Well?

Speaker 8 (09:59):
I think up front, you know, our old line certainly
led the way, and you know, Deacon King was great
on the ground. You know, we had a couple of
pivotal errors turning the ball over, so it probably didn't
allow us to pull away there at any point, but
I think we had almost five hundred yards of offense.
Then defensively, those guys battled and just kept us in

(10:20):
it and made some time with plays. The one takeaway
we did come up with late proved to be huge
to set up offense to be able to score there late.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
How do you feel about where your team is coach?

Speaker 8 (10:32):
Yeah, I think we're improving. I think the practices are
you know, stacking together and hopefully we're making some strides here.
Obviously we have our work cutout for us, as you know,
we'll face Brownsburg this week and you know, to see
where we're really at and what we need to continue
to work on. Let's get ready for the tournament.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
Josh Miracle is the football coach at Westfield. They are
number four in six eight to night. They beat number
ten Hamilton Southeastern. Great match of twenty one to seventeen
to the final in that one. Coach, I greatly appreciate
the call. Good luck to your guys next week.

Speaker 8 (11:07):
Thank you appreciate it and have a good night.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
Thanks very much. We'll start off and talk with David
Deaton from WKLO cord In Central losing to Clarkstill tonight
fifty two eight. David, tough loss for cord In Central
tonight to a good clark Still team.

Speaker 10 (11:25):
Well, coach, not to correct you, but it was the
opposite cored in one fifty two to eight over Clarksville
tonight at huh, I'm okay.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
I'm okay to be corrected, I'm fine with it.

Speaker 10 (11:37):
Yeah, the Panthers look good. Tonight started on defense. Clarksville
had a good drive, started got into core it in
territory and it started with a pick six for the
Panthers to get them on the board, and so from
there they were able to take off and get going
on the night.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
All right, David, do you know that music means you
have to wait? I appreciate you calling me, David Deaton.
I'll come back. We'll talk more ball, also talk about
hardy chills.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
And I'm Brendan King with this network Indiana scoreboard update
here on Indiana Sports Talk. Some more scores heading your way,
heading down to Bloomington, where first it was Bloomington South
beating Tara Hote South forty nine fourteen, and then Bloomington
North also took care of Tara Hate North shutout Fashion
fifty six to nothing. Bedford North Lawrence had no issue

(12:22):
tonight with Seymour that's a final of thirty four to thirteen.
Avon a quality win against Franklin Central thirty five to ten,
and Ray and stays hot with a seventeen to seven
victory against Hobert. It was Calium metover Bowman Academy fifty
two to sixteen. Breeman got the job done against jim
Town twenty nine to twenty two. It was Charlestown thirty

(12:44):
two Providence twenty eight. Concord defeated Warsaw thirty eight to seven.
Covington by a five piece against South ver Million thirty
to twenty five. It was del Phi thirty two, Westdale fourteen.
Delta doubled up Mount Vernon, Fordville forty two, twenty East
Central blank Batesville forty five nothing. Eastern Peak in the
two point victory against Eastern Green Low scoring final fourteen

(13:07):
to twelve. Elkhart earned the victory against New Prairie fifty
six to twenty eight. Evansville writes over Evansville Central twenty
two seven up to the two six zho we told
you about Fort Wayne Lures in their double overtime win
against Fort Wayne north thirty one twenty eight could be
the game of the night. This is a weird one.
Fort Wayne d winger over Homestead fifteen to three. It

(13:29):
was Fort Wayne Northrop crushing Fort Wayne Concordia forty seven
to six. Fort Wayne South shutout Fort Wayne Wayne forty
six to nothing. It's our nineteenth shutout of the night
Green cast over North Putnham. How about this for high
scoring fifty one forty eight. That's like a high power
college game. I'm Brendan King.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
Welcome back everyone. David Deeton from WKLO Reach joined this.
Cord In Central beachs Clarksville fifty two to eight tonight
and very impressive win for cored in Central.

Speaker 10 (14:07):
Yeah, it certainly was coach, and I say before the break,
of course, Clarksville started with the football. They had a
nice drive going into coret In territory at the thirty
seven and got to a third down their freshman quarterback
Caleb Hawkins backpedaling on a screen pass. The Panthers were
reading it really well. Hawkins threw it, put a little
too much air under it, and overthrew his running back

(14:27):
into the secondary for Coret and aj Lathan picked it
off ran it back sixty six yards for the Panthers
to put them up six to nothing before the offense
even took the field, so the Panthers missed the extra
point and then Hawkins throwing another pick on the next
drive that set up the Panthers at the Clarksville thirty seven.
Dane Nyman finishing off a three play drive with an

(14:48):
eleven yard run to the end zone thirteen to nothing
with five point fifty two to go in the first
and the Panthers just kept handing it to different players.
They're starting running back Kyler Vest was sitting there, came
out with an ankle injury that he had against Scottsburg
last week. Matthew Wolf, who's the starting linebacker on defense,
the team's leading tackler, he got a hand off, he

(15:09):
took it eighty yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.
And then Brandon Bakting, who started to get some carries
here the last few weeks. He takes one in from
one yard out to make it twenty seven to nothing,
and from there the Panthers only threw six passes on
the entire night. Bobby Sharp finding Jackson likes eighteen yard
touchdown pass and then Sharp to Jack Fessel for thirty

(15:30):
two yards and he still had eight forty five to
go in the second and it was forty one to nothing.
Core it in. So Dane Nyman is able to knock
in a thirty four yard field goal forty four to nothing,
and the Panthers basically played their reserves in the second
half and those guys on the JV put together an
eighteen play drive that resulted in a touchdown on fourth
and goal. They got a touchdown pass from Beckett Likes

(15:53):
to Peyton Bratcher, freshman the sophomore there so the Panthers
did give up a touchdown to Clarksville the third under
a running clock, Caleb Hawkins able to keep it for
two yards out to get in. So a great night
for Cord and football after losing a heartbreaker to Scottsburg
at home last week. And so the Panthers had a
good night on the ground two hundred and sixty one yards.

(16:14):
They averaged about eight yards of carry in this game,
only ran thirty nine offensive plays. Twenty one of those
plays came in the first half, with the varsity first
team running most of that. So a very good night
for a Cordon football and two and three now on
the season. They get their first win at home on
the season as well, and now next week the Panthers

(16:35):
back in the conference play when they'll head up to
Salem to take on a very scrappy bunch in the
Lions Wklos.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
David Deaton on the call of Cordon Central's fifty two
to eight win over Clarksville, David, well done, Thank you
for the call. I have a great weekend.

Speaker 10 (16:50):
Thank you, coach, you too.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
He is in the high excuse me, he is in
the Indiana Football Hall of Fame. He is the founder
of the Regional Sports Network, founder and publisher of the
Indiana Football Digest. And if there's a good Guy Hall
of Fame, he's a first ballot inductee for sure. The
one and only Paul Country from the Regional Radio Sports Network,

(17:14):
on the call of Chesterton's twenty four to sixteen win
over Valpariso, Paul, thanks for the call. Impressive win for
Chesterton tonight, it.

Speaker 9 (17:24):
Certainly was Bob, Thanks for having me. The seventy third
meeting of the Meridian Campbell Guffies, two schools separated by
just eight miles. As you will now, Valparaiso has owned
this series. They had won the last thirteen straight games.
Yet the games were big close throughout the course of
that thirteen game win streak. Seven of the seven am

(17:46):
now eight of the last nine have been decided by
two scores or less, but it was Chesterton taking advantage
one hundred yards in penalties by Valparaiso for the second
consecutive night. Chesterton shouldn't feel too puppy justin because they
also had one hundred yards and penalties tonight, so a
lot of laundry on the field. The guys in black

(18:08):
and white are gonna have to ice down their arms,
are going to have to get outside and clean up
the fives tonight because they got a little dirty on
the fields. But it was Andrew Gobya was the star
of the show tonight for Chesterton. He rushed thirty times
for one hundred and seventy three yards. He was the
go to guy. Chesterton really did a nice job at
controlling the tempo of the game. They limited to Valparaiso

(18:30):
to only thirty five yards in rushing offense. The lone
bright spot had to be Valparaiso quarterback The hosta kid
just did a really nice job of teaking his team
and at Valparaiso had an opportunity for the second consecutive
Friday to win the football game late and missed a
golden opportunity on a wheel row or the wide receiver

(18:53):
dropped the football where he had thirty yards in front
of him, couldn't make the play. Valparaiso loses to Tonight
Chesterton Tonight by the score of twenty four to sixteen.
Valparaiso has the dubious distinction now because they have Crown
Point and Marraville in their next two games.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Wow, And so.

Speaker 9 (19:14):
Things better get right with the Viking Ship real, real
quick because they have the two best teams and the
Denlic Conference coming up. Chesterton, conversely, has two teams that
they can win against, the two teams that are below
them and the standing. So it could be a great
win and a great opportunity for Mark Peterson's team to
close out the season.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
All right, I want to mention something that I didn't
pay attention to until this week is that you and
I have the pairing show coming up on the twelfth
of October.

Speaker 9 (19:46):
Okay, good to know that, Thanks for the heads up.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
Well, I'm just saying, doesn't that seem like not very
long from now.

Speaker 9 (19:56):
I'm trying to figure out when we started this journey,
and I'm just thinking, Okay, I know we started doing
these radio shows right from the beginning. Hey, right, I'm
plugging away from us. We're doing okay for a bunch.

Speaker 1 (20:09):
Of old dudes. Someone asked me that the other day
to how long have you done the beering shows? And
I said, I don't really know. I just know I've
done him for a long time. And I relyowing you
to figure out that information. You're better at that than
I am.

Speaker 9 (20:25):
All right, coach, we'll talk to you tomorrow night.

Speaker 1 (20:27):
All right, Paul Conder and I will be here tomorrow
night talking about tonight's action around the state. Tonight Paul
had the Chesterton win twenty four sixteen over Vappa. Paul,
have a safe night. We'll talk to you tomorrow night.
Thanks coach, god b, thank you, Thanks very much. Steve
Colb joins me. You know, STEVEE is the superstar WAXL

(20:49):
South Spinster Tonight meets Forest Park forty two to fourteen. Steve,
thanks so much for the call.

Speaker 11 (20:56):
Thanks Bob. Yeah, real happy night for South Spencer's Night
was a football team that came in zh four. First
year head coach Brandon Neighbors, former South Spencer standout player,
took over the program and has tried to set the
tone for how he wants his guys to play, and
he has rolled with an extremely young team. Seven or

(21:17):
eight sophomore starting on offense, almost that same number on defense.
He one eight football not the same guys, but they
turned the corner tonight, stopped killing themselves with mistakes and
penalties and turnovers, decided to be a physical team that
hadn't been able to run the football through four weeks.
They're leading running back to Atlanta sophomore that was two

(21:38):
and a half yards to carry, what does he do tonight?
Two hundred and eighteen lessing yards on eleven and a half.
The sophomore quarterback Jacob Miller eight of twelve passing for
one hundred and eighty yards and two scores. This is
a kid who is completing the forty one percent of
his passes coming in and he goes sixty seven percent
completing percent five in. The senior wide receiver Tate Schulty

(22:02):
had a huge night seven catches, one hundred and seventy
two yards and two scores. And they just look like
they look like the team that coach Neighbors thought he
was going to have. They found some confidence after falling
behind seven to nothing in the early second quarter and
put up what five six unanswered themselves went at forty

(22:24):
to to seven, got a running clock actually for the
fourth quarter. The fourth fourth part scored in the fourth
quarter for their second pets down of the night. So
just just a really nice fight for South Center on
their homecoming night to find the way to pick up
not only their first win of the season, but a
conference pat Small school division win. They've got a tough

(22:46):
one next week at North Posey in division play, but
they've got a couple of winnable games remaining on their schedule,
and everything's winnable if they keep them, if they can
continue to play like they play to night, because they
just look like a completely different football team. Neighbors has
to be so proud of his young guys tonight.

Speaker 1 (23:06):
A great win tonight for South Spencer, very impressive winnover
Forest Park forty two to fourteen to the final. Steve
Colb from w AXL on the call. Steve, thank you
so much. Have a great weekend, Thanks Bob.

Speaker 11 (23:21):
We'll talk next Friday. Some little game called air to
Chill that Gibson seven.

Speaker 1 (23:26):
I'm looking forward to it, as are you. Thanks Steve.

Speaker 11 (23:30):
Thanks Bob.

Speaker 1 (23:32):
Scoreboard Ebdy coming up with Brendan King. This is Indiana
Sports Talk.

Speaker 3 (23:36):
Hey, I'm Brendan King with this network Indiana scoreboard update
here on Indiana Sports Talk, and it's official tonight every
number one team in the state ends up being victorious.
That's because the final number one we were waiting for
Evansville Memorial from Class three A. They improved a five
and zero with their thirty eight to six big victory

(23:57):
over Evansville Harrison. So again, all six number one schools, Brownsburg,
newpal Heritage Hills, Evansville Memorial, Adams Central, and North de
Catur all win tonight on this week five Friday. Other
squares from around the state. It was Gibson Southern beating
up on South Ridge forty one to twelve. Griffith crushed
River Forest forty nine to seven. It was ron Colli

(24:20):
upending Garren Catholic forty nine seven as well. Short Ridge
shut out Washington in Indianapolis thirty six to nothing. Laporte
defeated Anderson fifty six to six. Lebanon the six point
win against McCutcheon thirty three twenty seven. It was Logan's
Port over Twin Lakes forty five twenty eight. Lowell got
the best of Highland forty two seven mcconacue by a

(24:42):
field goal over Peru thirty one. Twenty eight. Madison Grant
beat up on Elwood forty two seven, one point victory
for Martinsville over Franklin forty two to forty one. It
was Mariville on top of Michigan City forty four to seven.
In the region, the Mishawaka Cavemen shutout Ghost fifty nine. Nothing.
Elsewhere tonight, Munster over East Chicago Central forty four to thirty.

(25:06):
New Haven over Norwell forty five fourteen. North Hudson shut
out Cover forty one to nothing. It was Northeastern blankt
Union City sixty two zip and Penn beat Mishawaka Marion
fifty four to fourteen.

Speaker 1 (25:21):
Welcome back everyone, This is Indiana Sports Talk. It's brought
to you by Indiana Donor Network. Brendan King with me
Scoreboard Update extraordinaire and newly wed ether Ethan Patterson, our
studio producer. Brendan. You mentioned, you mentioned shutouts, You mentioned
all the all the number ones were able to get through.

Speaker 9 (25:46):
This one.

Speaker 1 (25:46):
I'll tell you it's a crazy night because he normally
at this time, uh, the phones are jam packed, right,
and it's tonight like right now, we've had twenty phone
calls and now we it's just a it's kind of
one of those weird nights. You know, we have rain
and weather delays down in the Evan Zoo area, right, correct, Right,

(26:08):
you know, Memorial ends up winning, but that was the
game that was affected by by weather. It's just been
it's been a unique night, has it not.

Speaker 3 (26:17):
Yeah, I think nineteen shutouts is really unique. That's a
higher number, I feel like than usual. Four overtime games.
We mentioned that double OT game in Fort Wayne between
Lures and North Loures, the thirty one to twenty eight
win and double ot on top of three other overtime games.
Those other three all decided by one point each. You

(26:38):
mentioned all those number one teams victorious. So yeah, you know, again,
I think the nineteen shutouts pretty unusual. But hey, you know,
in any season, you're gonna have a little bit of
complex type of situations. You're gonna have some oddities sometimes,
and you know that's just the case with anything and everything.
And I think that's just tonight and week five of
high school ball.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
I think you're right. I think what's interesting thing is
that it's a night you know, shutouts have been something
you've talked about extensively, and I understand it. And uh yeah,
here you are, you know, mid past the midway point
of the season, and people are you know, still at
this time. You wouldn't think that people would have so

(27:19):
much trouble with the way the game is it changed.
I mean, the scoring I think is up statewide and
all of that. So it's just, uh, you know, one
of those particular situations for sure.

Speaker 3 (27:32):
I mean, you know, you see oddities everywhere coach, and
in every sport and in every industry. I mean, look
at the Colts right now, you know, kind of the
flip side of the coin. Though in terms of good oddities,
the Colts have yet to punt this year, Like Roberto
Sanchez does not exist to this point of the NFL
season and we're two weeks in, so I think that's
pretty amazing. So you know, it's going to come and

(27:52):
go with weird numbers. I mean, it happens all the time.
And you know, from that Colt standpoint, that's a pretty
good thing because they're two and oh heading into Sunday.

Speaker 1 (28:00):
Yeah, you know, and while we're talking about him two
and zero with a chance to do something you haven't
done in a while. Let's go three and oh and
I mean it's interesting, it's I think it underscores the
importance of your quarterback being able to manage the game

(28:21):
and not hurt you, and the importance of not turning
the ball over is I don't think he can stress
it enough when you talk about football at any level. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (28:34):
I was listening to Jake Query show earlier this afternoon
on our flagship fan here in Indianapolis, and the great
Kevin Bowen was on as a guest. I think Kevin
put it very well when you look at, especially the
last three years of quarterback play in Indianapolis with Daniel
Jones has done. Daniel Jones has in a way simplified
the position for Indianapolis, but he's allowed also allowing the

(28:57):
Colts to expand the playbook a little bit, which is
really what they were not getting out of the Anthony
richards in the last two seasons. The way that Kevin
put it, I thought it was a fun little analogy.
The way Kevin put it was you know, Shane Steichen
when he had Anthony Richardson in there, he really had
to slip simplify things. But in a way where you're
not expanding the playbook. It's almost like a happy hour

(29:19):
menu at a bar where there's four or five items
on the menu and you really don't have much to
pick from. The Daniel Jones standpoints like when you go
to the Cheesecake Factory and the menus in Encyclopedia. And
even though the lineups, even though the play calling might
be a little bit more simplified with Daniel Jones, he
can't do as much as Anthony Richardson with his legs
per se, Daniel Jones gives you the ability to where

(29:40):
you can expand that playbook, still running relatively simple plays,
but all kinds of different looks in what they were
not doing the last two years. I thought that was
just a brilliant analogy from Kevin, So I wanted to point.

Speaker 1 (29:51):
That out interesting. I'm not so sure hosting a sports
talk show that I ever thought I'd bring up the
cheesecake Factory menu.

Speaker 3 (30:01):
There's there's the first on i S team.

Speaker 1 (30:03):
So yeah, and so I mean, I don't I'm not disappointed.
My wife and I enjoy the cheesecake Factory. Does I mean?
And you had me? I'm simple, I just you know,
give me a Cuban sandwich and I'll be fine, even
though my cardiologists would prefer I didn't do that, but
it's just how it goes. All Right, your your favorite

(30:26):
college football team, the Notre Dame Irish in action tomorrow.
I love the schedule that we have for college football tomorrow.
I think it's great. Uh it's you know, you're at
the you're starting to get into it and in big time,
and not just our you know, our Big Ten and
our Division ones, but some great matchups in the Division

(30:48):
three ranks and those kinds of things. So you got
Notre Dame Purdue at seven point thirty. I think they're listen,
this could be a better game than what people might think,
especially with the odds makers, because what earlier you said
they were a twenty Notre Dame was a twenty four
point favorite. Yeah, I think that's too high, but what

(31:12):
a wine know. But it's a chance for the Boilers.
Under coach owed him to make a statement, no question
about it, and I'm still not sure what Notre Dame
is doing.

Speaker 3 (31:23):
Major opportunity for Purdue, without question, to especially get away
from what has been the last few years of kind
of what they've been known as coach and that's simply
the bottom dweller of the Big Ten. I mean, that's
what the last two and a half years had been,
and Otam has quickly turned that around. Even though Purdue
loses last week. Yeah, I think Rob Blackman put it
while I was listening in and you. Rob said something

(31:44):
along the lines of, you know, that's a game last
last year, that USC game where you know, in halftime,
Purdue would have kind of just laid down and dominance
would have continued. You know, this year, Purdue ends up
hanging in there and they still lose, but you take
some positives away from that. I thought that was good
for the Boilers last week. Here's one thing I'll say,

(32:04):
coach compared to last year two weeks in for Notre
Dame where Riley Leonard was the quarterback. And I understand
Riley Leonard took you to a national championship last year,
but let's also remember Riley Leonard really struggled in the
first three weeks of last season, and there were some
questions along the lines coach of was he playing injured,
what's going on with his arm? He was not throwing

(32:25):
many deep balls that Northern Illinois game, especially Riley Leonard
really struggled, and comparatively this year where you lose the
two close games to Miami and Texas A and M,
I don't think many folks are talking about what CJ.
Carr has done because CJ. Carr He's thrown three touchdown
passes for five and fourteen yards through two games. And
of course the story is Notre Dame loses both games.

(32:48):
You know, CJ. Carr did not give up that fourth
down touchdown, and last week against A and M, CJ.
Carr put up forty points coach, So I think if CJ.
Carr continues to play the way he has, he threw
for two hundred and ninety three yards last week that
should have been good enough to win this good enough,
but it wasn't. And he's been fantastic. And what I'm
saying is compared to Riley Leonard last year, where you

(33:08):
had a veteran, you know, CJ. Carr is much younger. However,
through the first two weeks, cars Play has significantly outplayed
at least Leonards numbers from last year, which I think
is interesting.

Speaker 1 (33:19):
I think it is interesting. I think it's interesting too
that defensively this Irish team had a great run a
year ago. Clearly this is not that defensive unit this year,
as evidenced by the A and M matchup.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
No doubt. And you know, losing Al Golden to the Bengals.
I mean, I think that's a huge part of it.

Speaker 1 (33:36):
It is large.

Speaker 3 (33:36):
You know, Chris Ash up in South Bend and listen, coach,
I listened to it every day. We've talked a lot
about this. I work up in South Bend half the year.
I hear it three hundred and sixty five days a
year about how that community is feeling. And you know,
Chris Ash, the new defensive coordinator at least lately, has
been public enemy number one. And you know, I don't

(33:57):
think it's necessarily deserved. They struggled, Yeah, but you got
to give the guy a chance to implant his defense.
But you know, of course, when things are not going
well with Car playing well and the defense falling off short,
you get why the conversation at least up on South
Bend radio has been mister Ash.

Speaker 1 (34:16):
Brendan King the man. He's coming up with another school
board update, gonna tell you how many shutouts we've had,
and all of that. College football will continue to talk
about that. Don't forget to join us tomorrow night on
the show. Are you with us tomorrow night? No, you're
not with us tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (34:31):
I have some business to take care too, that's right,
but arsenal business.

Speaker 1 (34:35):
You're back next weekend.

Speaker 3 (34:37):
The next weekend. I will give you a buzz tomorrow night, though.

Speaker 1 (34:39):
I'll look forward to it. It's Purdue Notre Dame at
seven thirty, Illinois and I you the Marquee game. That's
tomorrow night too. What time's that game start?

Speaker 3 (34:50):
Coach, Purdue and Notre Dame? Actually three thirty? I use
at got that incorrect.

Speaker 1 (34:55):
Now you're going so I you and Illinois. That's a game,
no money, that's a game.

Speaker 3 (35:01):
That's a game.

Speaker 1 (35:02):
That is the game to watch. All right, mister King
coming up with his final scoreboard update. This is Indiana
Sports Talk.

Speaker 3 (35:12):
I'm Brendan King with this network Indiana scoreboard update here
on Indiana Sports Talk. Last one of the night. Official
final number. I think this is very unusual. Twenty six
total shutouts in week five of this high school football season.
There were also four overtime games, three of them decided
by one point each, including Centerville's thirty one to thirty

(35:34):
overtime win against Try Greenfield. Central took care of Shelbyville
twenty eight to twenty seven in extra time. In a
single overtime period. Northwood outlasted Northridge twenty two to twenty one.
The lone game that required two overtime periods. Fort Wayne
Bishop Lures over Fort Wayne North thirty one twenty eight.
As mentioned, all six number one teams victorious Tonight, Brownsburg,

(35:58):
New Palestine, Heritage Hills, Evansville, Memorial, Adam, Central, and North
Decatur all will be in similar spots for next week.
We're doing Notre Dame tomorrow three thirty Notre Dame Stadium.
Marcus Freeman the Owen two Irish at number twenty four.
They are twenty four and a half point favorites. But
Marcus Freeman talked about what to expect from Barry Odom's Boilers.

Speaker 6 (36:19):
This team plays hard. Barry Odam gets his players to
play extremely hard, confident, and it's a belief in their
head coach and it's something they've instilled in their culture.
They're going to be ready to go this Saturday. So
we got to make sure that we understand the challenge.
But more importantly, the opportunity we have as a program.

Speaker 3 (36:36):
Ball stand at one and two takes on Yukon on
the road, three thirty ball State's getting twenty one and
a half points by the way against the Huskies, and
then the big one seven to thirty night game from Bloomington,
number nine Illinois, number nineteen Indiana, the Hoosiers favored by
six and a half points. Enjoy that college football Saturday.
We will talk to you here on IST. I'm Brennan

(36:57):
Kingcome back everyone, Week five of the high school football season.

Speaker 1 (37:06):
Just a reminder Sunday, October the twelfth, The Pairing Show. Yes,
the Pairing Show on October the twelfth, Paul Andrey and
I are back in action. Earlier in the night when
Paul was with me talking about high school football act Frankly,

(37:29):
I don't know how many years we've done it. I
just know that I've done it for a long time,
and we've been together for a long time doing the show,
and he's The joy for me is to just be
beside a man who is as passionate about football as
Paul is, and one need only looking the continued success

(37:51):
of the Indiana Football Digest and the monumental impact that
has on football fans in our state. I think that
explains then. So I'm just happy to be next to
him and contribute any way I can, and so to
get ready October the twelfth. I'm not sure exactly what

(38:13):
the time is on that. I think still in that
TBD category, but you can mark that on your calendar
that we'll be bringing you the pairing show. And as
we've talked about for the entire year, it is a
very balanced situation for all the classes. I mean you clearly,

(38:37):
I think you have some favorites. The last couple of
years there have been some real clear cut favorites, if
you will, I don't know that that's necessarily the case
this time around, So mark that on your calendar, be
ready for that. Now. We talked about Produe Notre Dame
also tomorrow and the Big ten slate, one of the big,

(39:00):
big time national implication type games Illinois at IU that's
tomorrow night. What a game. I mean, seriously, Illinois number nine,
who's yours ranked, you know, twenty twenty two, somewhere in
that range. Wherever they are. The implications are pretty obvious,

(39:23):
I think for everybody. If you want to be able
to play in the h in the national tournament. You
got to get in, you got you gotta have w's
of these types of games, and so it's fantastic. It's
a great matchup. Pretty Notre Dame we talked about obviously.
We'll talk a little bit more later. Indiana State on
the road at Montana. Also Division one Butler at Weaber State. Butler. Listen,

(39:52):
that's good. That's a good football team. Valpos in North Dakota.
Then you have your small college if you will, you know,
Mckendrey's at the University of Indianapolis, the Division three ranks,
Anderson's at Kalamazoo. Excuse me, ball State, I don't want

(40:13):
to slight Ball State, and I apologize. Ball State's at
Yukon tomorrow. Good opportunity for the Cardinals to pick up
a W we mentioned Butler. Weaver State. Kenyon is at
DePaul DePaul, a really really solid football team. Franklin College
is at Trine, a big interstate matchup with that. Hannover

(40:35):
College at Alma Alma's in Michigan, Wabash traveling to Worcester,
a big conference game there, all of at Nazarene is
at Indiana. Wesleyan McKendree, as I mentioned, at the University
of Indianapolis, Manchester at Adrian. Adrian is in Michigan, Rose

(40:56):
At Albion. Albion also in Michigan. Marion has a weekend off,
does the University of Saint Francis and Taylor, and as
I mentioned, Valpo's in North Dakota. So join us tomorrow
for the show. We'll talk a little bit about some
of these games. Annually, we have more than one nationally
ranked small college football team in our state. And this

(41:19):
is not a different year. This is the same thing.
So some really interesting matchups in small college football. So
there you are. That's gonna be tomorrow night on the show.
Some final thoughts, break, final break, and the final thoughts.
This is Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Song. Welcome back everyone,

(41:45):
This is Indiana Sports Song. Thank you for joining us.
Brendan King, you still with me?

Speaker 3 (41:49):
You bet you still there?

Speaker 1 (41:50):
Brother? You bet you all right? So last time, let's
talk some scores. Nineteen shutouts, all.

Speaker 3 (41:57):
Right, coach, we actually finished at twenty all right.

Speaker 1 (42:01):
I guess I wasn't paying it. I thought I was
paying attention, so I normally don't do but I thought
I was twenty six shutouts.

Speaker 3 (42:08):
Tonight twenty six. Again, it's just unusual. I usually I
think it is I can't run again. I usually track them,
but twenty six and it may just be because this
is my first night back in the studio for the year,
but just feels like a little bit more inflated than usual.
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (42:26):
I'm gonna go with you. I'll defer to your judgment
as I normally do, but that that's a lot. I
just want to remind everybody this is, you know, week
five now in the books, so you know we're into
that period of you need to be trending. You know,
an interesting term, it's a popular term, and it's a

(42:47):
hip term.

Speaker 3 (42:48):
You need to be.

Speaker 1 (42:49):
Trending in the right direction at this particular time, because
you truly are at a point where if you're not
heading in the right direction, it's kind of hard to
make a course correction, so to speak, at this particular point.
Overtime games, how many did would you say?

Speaker 3 (43:06):
Finish with four? Coach? And then of course the double
lot thriller from Fort Wayne lures over North. So that
was a good one. I will say this was a
score that came in rather recent that we did not
get to upset. And of course this is Providence at
Class A playing up. They played four A Charlestown. Charlestown

(43:26):
does beat Providence tonight, coach, it's a final of thirty
two to twenty eight in a really good one. Providence.
Of course your Class A champion from a year ago.
So Providence who went undefeated a year ago, now three
and two. But again they did play up in that
four A game.

Speaker 1 (43:42):
Remind people that Charlestown's a good football team.

Speaker 3 (43:45):
Very much, just playing playing well very much.

Speaker 1 (43:47):
This is so much, This is gonna be so much fun.
This is gonna be fun. Twelfth of October, Paul Condrey
and I'll do the Peering show. You you know, pairing shows.
The fun thing about the pairing shows is it's kind
of like this show. Uh you really, you know, I

(44:10):
don't think people recognize. Hey, look I don't know who's
calling or when they're calling. You know that I don't
after all these years, there's no way you can script
this like you know other programs would script. This is
a totally here's the trendy term. It totally organic and
so you don't know, I mean, it's just like tonight

(44:32):
we didn't have any coaches call after eleven thirty. Man,
That's that's odd. Normally I'm jam packed until until midnights,
you know. So who knows, but that's just how it is.
I'm glad you're back. I'm sorry that your baseball I'm
sorry your baseball season's over. And you know there will
be a time when you and I might find ourselves
both down in Naples. Uh, you know we're We're probably

(44:58):
not gonna make it down until at least Christmas. Brendan
King and newly married Ethan Patterson. Thank you so much
for a great job, gentlemen, my thanks to our great
stations around the state that bring you the show every
Friday and Saturday night, and thanks to all of you
for thirty one years you've made us the most listened
to sports talk show in the state's history. It is

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
