Welcome back everyone. This is Indiana Sports Song brought to
you by Indiana Donor Network. High school football Tonight Jasper
Beet seven Zee Central forty seven to twelve from witz
In Jasper Indiana sports Talk alum Chris Norton. Chris, thanks
for the call. It's a good solid win for the
Cats tonight.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Absolutely picking up their fifth consecutive and it was back
and forth to first nine minutes. Kayden Ramos spinning into
the end zone for one of his three scores on
the night from six yards out and from that point
on to Wildcat that's taken control over the Bears. Three
scoring drives and I mean full drives in the next
seven minutes. A thirty six yard field goal from Jack Neely,
(05:08):
a junior that was called up from the soccer team
last week. They like him from forty yards only, he
did thirty six for a thirty one to twelve half
time lead, and then more of the same in the
second half. Jalen Mayners, You're going to hear that name
a lot. Two hundred yards passing, two touchdowns, both to
Nate lu Kameier. Ramos's three touchdowns one for Jack Levin. Defensively,
four interceptions is really where the Wildcats were getting their opportunities.
(05:32):
Alex Whare with two of them, Ethan Young had won
Nate Lukameyer in addition to two touchdowns, also getting an interception.
The Cats bleeding the clock and the life out of
Evansville Central. Kind of a choppy game, definitely chippy. Personal
fouls were up in numbers to the point where we
lost track at one point, but a hard plot came
(05:54):
unfortunately quite literally hard fought for Jasper, who's winning their
fifth straight and coach, you know, for a new head coach,
new program, new offense defense.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
They got thrown trial by.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
Fire against Seventhville Memorial back in the first week. And
for those that pay attention to the rankings there at
the top of thirty eight. After that, Jasper's turned on
the Jets, two ranked wins over Rights in modern day
and rolling one hundred and thirty eight points in their
last three outings.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
We wouldn't be on the air without Witz and Jasper.
They were the first station thirty two years ago to
say yes, and from there we've turned this into your
basic legendary show. Chris Norton, great to talk to you
as always. Hope you're well. Big night tonight, Jasper Beetz
Evans so Central forty seven to twelve, have a great weekend, Chris.
Speaker 5 (06:45):
You too, glad to be a part of it.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Thank you, coach, Thanks so much. Casey McKim joins me,
the head coach at Lowell High School. Well, it's Hobert tonight,
the big battle twenty to seventeen to the final Coach,
I appreciate the call. What a great win for you
and your kids.
Speaker 6 (07:00):
Yeah, just really excited. Came down to the wire. I
love the way our kids kept fighting. Had a lot
of struggles throughout the game, but we still found a
way to pull it out.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
This is one of those annual rivalry games. I suppose
that's one way to put it, but for you guys,
it's much more than that. I mean, Hobert and Lowell,
that's a legendary matchup, is it not?
Speaker 7 (07:26):
Absolutely?
Speaker 6 (07:27):
I mean two tradition rich programs who've dominated for decades.
I just feel humbled to be a part of it
and just excited for our kids to come out on
top tonight.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Well how'd you do it? Coach? Tell me it's a
field goal at the end.
Speaker 6 (07:42):
Yeah, it was a field goal at the end. Actually,
we had about a fourth and sixth on the forty
five going in, and we ended up dialing up a
little play action play where we ended up hitting our
tight end up the scene and to getting the ball
down to about the twelve yard line, ran one play
to center the ball, and Dylan Bassachi at second straight
(08:02):
drive that he hit a field goal to give us
the win as time expired.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
That's fantastic, man, man, And were you at your place.
Were you at the Inferno tonight?
Speaker 6 (08:13):
No, we were at the Bricky.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
Ball Okay, the BRICKI two legendary facilities place was packed,
I'm sure, uh for for the annual Lowell and Hbert
matchup at the Horn. All right, So who else plays
well for you tonight? Coaching this book?
Speaker 6 (08:32):
We had a couple of guys who got some interceptions.
Malachi Goodall, Ron Basco had some some big plays. Our
defense really was outstanding tonight. They only really gave up
one drive it was a field goal. Offense gave up
a pick six to start the game. Offense also lost
the ball inside the ten. So so really our defense
was stout tonight and gave our offense a lot of chances,
(08:54):
but we came through at the right time. Lincoln Schneider
had a one back fullback dive for one of the touchdowns.
Rody cole Winsky had a touchdown and close to seventy
five yards rushing, and so did Timothy James. So just
a lot of guys doing a lot of different things.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
All right, who's up next for you? Next week?
Speaker 6 (09:15):
We got kV at kV Tankekeee.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Valley outstanding well tonight. Lowell twenty to seventeen winners over
Hobert at the Horn. Basically, Casey McKim, thank you so
much for the call. Congratulations again and good luck next week.
Speaker 6 (09:33):
Thank you so much, appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
You're welcome. Thank you. All right. Coming up, we're going
to continue to talk about week six. John Kirshner, the
head coach at Hamilton Heisel, join us, Wes Oler from
Northeastern plus more. Reminder, join us tomorrow night on the
show for our Saturday night edition. It's a lot like
Friday Night's edition other than the fact that we're talking
(09:57):
about college football, So join us. What we'd update coming
up with landon Coons this year is Indiana's Sports Talk.
Speaker 1 (10:04):

For Network Indiana Sports, I'm in the coons.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Welcome back, everybody. This is Indiana Sports Talk. High school football. Tonight.
Penn beats sap In Adams forty two to seven. Our
favorite from the regional radio sports network, Tanner Camp on
the call. Tanner, another impressive win for Penn tonight.
Speaker 8 (12:08):
Well, Bob, it certainly was, and it starts off the game.
You knew it was going to be exciting, kind of
like what we've heard from a lot of these coaches
and other broadcasters. It was also Penn's homecoming night. They
onder the nineteen ninety five and two thousand state championship teams,
and they certainly got a treat. And how does it start,
Wall it happens is junior tight end Buddy Hurley decides
to return the opening kickoff for ninety two yards to
(12:30):
the house to put Penn up seven zero against South
and Adams. But coach, you got to tell you what
Frank Karswski over at South and Adams. They didn't have
an impressive play That kind of had a lot of
Penn fans questioning how this game would go. On their
first drive, eleven plays for eighty yards that tied it
up at seven to seven. But then, coach, I've told
you this before. Pete Rearden's team, they are on an
(12:51):
absolute roll right now from there out out through the
rest of this game. Thirty five straight unanswered points for
the Kams and the rest of the way, including Mason
Burnett he had a forty five yard punt and return touchdown.
Landon Hall, who continues to be impressive at the quarterback
spot for the six to four junior only seven passes,
but he completed six of them and how about this
for one hundred and forty yards and two score. So
(13:13):
right now, Pete Ridan's offense is just clicking up the
absolute right time and their wild bunch defense again, I
mean right now for Penn, They've only given up a
total of seven points tonight, but twenty seven points over
the last four games, and Penn is on the perfect
role right now, coach, because they've got a big game
next week against their other six A rival and the
(13:33):
Elkhart Lions, a battle of two of the highly regarded
Northern Indiana Conference team. So Penn right now looking to
build that momentum because they're going to go to Rice
Field and that should be an epic battle between the
Lions and the Kingsmen.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
Tanner Camp from the Regional Radio Sports Network on the
call of an impressive win tonight by Penn forty two
to seven the final over South Ben Adams. Tanner, thanks
so much for the call. Have a great weekend, coach.
Speaker 8 (14:00):
You do the same thing as I always think for
all that you do for the state of Indiana when
it comes to football and basketball.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
You're kind. Thanks for the kind words. Let's talk more football.
Big win tonight for Hamilton Heights. John Kirshner joins me. Sorry, coach,
sorry to cough in your ear. It's not your un
professional man. Oh man, I'm just telling you Hamilton Heights
twenty two to fourteen winners over Logan Sport. It seems
(14:28):
like a pretty good ball game. Tonight. Coach, Yes, very
good ball game tonight.
Speaker 9 (14:33):
You know, Logan Sport came in tonight on our homecoming
five and zero, very prolific offense, good sound running game,
very very physical.
Speaker 5 (14:44):
And.
Speaker 10 (14:46):
We were just able to stay with him defensively all night.
We had very high, very high physical play out of
some of our d linemen and the likes of kids
like Will Duncan and.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
Sy Mason and so forth among others.
Speaker 9 (15:03):
Got a kid back from injurying in Combertone who was
really a big help for us. And then in the
secondary Cooper Crafts, you know, really helps us out with a.
Speaker 10 (15:14):
Big interception and some key plays at the second level.
To win a conference game and beat a five and
zero football team who hadn't scored i think anything less
than forty eight points in the first five games and
hold into fourteen points at home on homecoming is a stellar,
(15:34):
stellar Knight, couldn't be more proud of my boys. Offensively,
Cam Fleming and eight you know as a wide receiver,
had six or fourteen catches tonight with a touchdown and
AJ plan. Again, our running back was an absolute beef
in the passing and the run game.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
Huge win. Who are you playing next week.
Speaker 10 (15:56):
We've got four and two Twin Lakes at Twin Lakes.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
A good hope. Doesn't get any easier.
Speaker 10 (16:02):
Yeah, no, sir, it does not.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
Well, it's a big win, perfect win, homecoming win. Everybody's happy,
absolutely tremendous win. Tonight, Hamilton Heights, as we mentioned in
their homecoming matchup, beats Logan Sport twenty two to fourteen.
John Kirshner, thanks so much for the call. Good luck
next time out, coach.
Speaker 11 (16:25):
Thank you, sir, have a good night.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
Thank you, Thank you very much. That's that's good stuff.
Wes Oler, the football coach at at Northeastern, joins me. Coach,
thanks for hanging on Northeastern tonight twenty nine, twenty seven
winners over Centerville. What a win, coach. Congratulations, Thank you
very much, Bob.
Speaker 12 (16:45):
It was.
Speaker 11 (16:46):
It was a back and forth game and we were
fortunate to make a couple more plays at the end.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
I'm not there obviously, if it this sounds exciting to me.
Two teams going at each other. So when do you
get to game winner?
Speaker 11 (17:05):
Uh? Well, so we're down fourteen to seven at halftime.
We come out and tie it up at fourteen. They
take the lead but missed the extra point. And then
early in the fourth quarter we're able to capitalize on
a bad punt snap and we get the ball about
the twenty five yard line and then punch it in
and take the lead. And then as we're trying to
(17:25):
ice the clock with a couple of minutes to go,
we we do a little play action and hit junior
Trent Maloney for about a sixty yard touchdown and then
we go for two and Trent throws it into to
sophomore Caden Redder to go up nine, and then they
drove down and scored and we recovered the on side
kick and we're able to kneel it out, so it
was it was a wild one.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
So a little bit of tension though on that on
that on side kick, and that's why you work on
it every day in practice.
Speaker 11 (17:53):
Absolutely. Senior Cam Gibson, he's he's kind of new to football,
but he's a good baseball player, so he's he's on
our team and he made probably the play.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
Of the game, so perfect perfect. My guess is he's
a short stuff.
Speaker 11 (18:09):
I think he did play some infield.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
Yes, yeah, that's what I'm doing. I'm a former infielder,
so I'm just telling you that's exactly what it was.
I love it. That is good stuff. All right, who's
up next for you?
Speaker 11 (18:22):
We play the Shenando Raiders at home.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
That'll be fun, a fun ball game tonight.
Speaker 11 (18:29):
Yeah, go ahead on non conference game. So if they're
in otersectional as well, and they're really really good team,
talented quarterback and well coached, that'll be a tough contest
for us.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
It's a great one to the end. Northeastern beat Centerville tonight,
twenty nine, twenty seven. Westoler. Thanks so much for the
goal and good luck next time out.
Speaker 11 (18:51):
Thanks a lot, Bob.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
We appreciate you. Oh you're very welcome. Thank you very much.
All Right, let's talk to David Deaton from WKLOS. The
Court in Central win over Salem tonight fifty three to
thirty three. David, very pressive win for Court in Central.
Speaker 13 (19:08):
Well, unfortunately it was the other way around. Actually Salem
gets the wed tonight fifty three to thirty three at
home against the Panthers. So Salem snapping a three game
Salem snapping a three game losing streak tonight, And for
this Cord and team, after playing so well last week
against Clarksville, definitely took a step back tonight, unfortunately, and
(19:29):
the Lions really put together a complete performance on offense.
Had three one hundred yard rushers in this game, and
it was actually a really close game up until the
fourth quarter. About ten forty three to go in the
fourth the Panthers were within five, but Salem scores the
last two touchdowns to make the margin a little bit
wider than what it had been all night.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
So a lot of guys must have done some pretty
impressive things offensively tonight.
Speaker 13 (19:56):
Yeah, for sure, Salem's offensive line really did a a
great job blocking the Panther front. It just seemed like
there were times Cord and got caught flat footed and
really kind of instead of being the aggressor, I guess
they're kind of pinning their ears back and try to
slow them down, Salem was able to go downhill and
kind of catch Cord in a little off guard. I
think at times tonight just kind of with the physical
(20:19):
play that Salem deployed. But big plays for Peyton Shockey,
the junior running back for Salem. He ran for one
hundred and sixty six yards. Logan Dent, the junior running back,
he went for one thirty on the ground and then
their senior fullback Karris Moore added one hundred and three
yards on the ground, So the Lions rack up four
hundred and sixty seven yards on the ground. But coach,
(20:41):
the Panthers got some good plays in special teams was
the strongest suit tonight for Cordon. They had a ninety
seven yard kick return Jack Fussel, senior receiver, getting that,
and then on a fake punt, Jack able to get
out of trouble there against the Lions. It looked like
he was going to go down and lose some yardage
or maybe get a short game, but he got away,
got a block and got sprung free for a seventy
(21:03):
one yard run on a fake punt. So there were
some good plays tonight for the Panthers, but they just
didn't play well enough defensively and offensively. We're a little
hit and miss at times. Plus eleven penalty certainly hurt
the Panthers on the road tonight in conference play.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
Well. David Deaton from wk LO on the call of
Salem's win over Cordon Central. We're going to talk with
coach Roger Pennington year after this break. David, thanks so
much for the call. I have a great weekend.
Speaker 13 (21:32):
Thank you, coach. You have a great weekend as well, Thank.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
You very much.
Speaker 1 (21:42):
Getting back to the scorer is on week six of
Indiana high school football. Adam Central thirty five to seven

out to no North Side forty two to nothing.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
Four.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
Network Indiana Sports, I'm any Kins.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
Welcome back. Let's talk some football. We're talking about the
big win Salem had over court In Central fifty three
thirty three with our good friend David Deaton. Let's bring
in the man, the head coach of Salem, Roger Pennington,
coach on you were able to hear part of that conversation.
Congratulations on the great win tonight.
Speaker 14 (23:49):
Thanks Bob.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
Offensively, you have to be awfully proud of what your
kids did tonight.
Speaker 14 (23:57):
Yeah, our offensive line set the tone early in the game.
We wanted to control the line of scrimmage. Obviously, it's
one of the keys to our football team, and our
offensive line set the tone early on. We were able
to run pretty much everything in our playbooks tonight. Bob,
our offensive line was explosive and our backs did a
great job and just a great conference win for the
Lions tonight.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
Yeah. I know it's pretty cliche, but it does start
up front. I mean, it doesn't matter. I mean, frankly,
I mean, I'm an old basketball coach. It starts up front.
You guys up front have to control things, and yours
did it tonight.
Speaker 14 (24:32):
Yeah. You know, we challenge our guys every week. You know,
that's our first goal on our list of things we
want to accomplish, is we want to control the line
of scrimmage on both sides of the football. When we
have our team meal on Thursday night, Bob, our offensive
lineman eat first. We're a little different than most teams.
Our field guys eat second. So everything starts up front.
And yeah, glad that you get a chuckle out of that,
(24:55):
because most people do too, Bob. But that's that's the
way we want to roll with the football team.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
It's subtle, but the message is delivered.
Speaker 14 (25:05):
Yeah, it definitely is. And you know, we had three
backs go over one hundred yards a night, four hundred
and fifty yards of rushing. Didn't ask for anything more
from our guys up front, our quarterbacks senior Baxen Dean
did a great job of running our offense tonight. And
you know, we you know, had some special teams things
we got to work on, but from an offensive standpoint,
(25:27):
we clicked on all eight cylinders tonight.
Speaker 2 (25:31):
That's great. Who's up next?
Speaker 14 (25:33):
We have Eastern next week, which is is a conference rival,
or excuse me as a county rival for us. So
you know they're struggling a little bit. We want to
make sure they come out. We don't want to take
them lightly. It's our last home game of the season.
It'll be senior night, so we want to send our
seniors out with a nice win over the Eastern Musketeers
next Friday night.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
I hope you do sale them over court in Central
Tonight fifty three, right, Drew Pennington, thank you so much
for the call and good luck next week. Thanks coach,
Michigan City over Lake Central Tonight, thirty seven seventeen with
me Michigan City's Cody French, coach, Congratulations on an impressive
win tonight. Yeah, thanks, You're just kind to get on
(26:17):
the road, coach. Coach are you hey? Coach? Were you there?
I hear you better?
Speaker 12 (26:24):
Now go ahead, Sorry about that, we're on the bush. Yeah,
anytime you can go on the road in our conference
at multi score win.
Speaker 6 (26:31):
What's pretty happen?
Speaker 12 (26:31):
How we executed and now it turned out?
Speaker 2 (26:36):
Tell you what, you're exactly right. Winning on the road
is hard, but especially in your league, it's extremely hard.
So how are you able to do this tonight?
Speaker 15 (26:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 12 (26:44):
You know for us, you know, we we looked our
wounds a little bit. We had a tough one last
week against Merrillville and challenged our kids on Monday that
this would be the game that determined.
Speaker 5 (26:53):
How the rest of our season goes.
Speaker 12 (26:54):
And felt like we had our best week of practice,
and you know, we come out and it's a tough
atmosphere as their homecoming places packed us to them to
create an atmosphere like that, and we had a tight
game at halftime and we're able to come out and
get some big stoffs and you know, hit some big
plays in the second half that turned in our favor.
Speaker 11 (27:11):
But really good game was it?
Speaker 2 (27:16):
I mean, aside from the big plays, I mean everything else.
You know, you had the halftime to change in halftime,
just kids started to execute better in the second half.
Speaker 5 (27:26):
You have to start execute better.
Speaker 12 (27:27):
And our defense, you know, defensively, we gave up two
big plays in the first half. We played pretty well,
but those two plays allowed the game to be close,
and we were able to eliminate those in the second
half and kind of put them in some bad spots
and very advantageous for us. And we had some guys
step up and make plays and we needed them soon.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
All Right, Who played well for you, coach? Who were
the standouts tonight?
Speaker 12 (27:48):
Yeah? Our quarterback played really well tonight. I'm not sure
about his total yards yet, but he threw three touchdown
passes to three different receivers. And he had a sixty
seven yard rushing touchdown that put us up by two
scores in the third quarter. Big plays, they swung them
on metem Our Way. And then mikel Laurent, one of
our slot receivers, he had two touchdown catches probably close
(28:10):
two hundred yards. And then he played the whole second
half on defense. He had a big pick that really
sailed it for us. So this two really stood out.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
And then uh, tonight, go ahead. Talk about you.
Speaker 12 (28:20):
I got to talk about our kicker. Sure, a sophomore kicker,
Charlie Barnes three for three on field goals. Not sure
in the last time we attempted three field goals. Let
alone made him here.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
So you're good for him and good and good for
you having the faith in him to do it. And
that's that's good stuff. All right. Who do you play
next week?
Speaker 12 (28:41):
We got Portage next week at home and be a
big game it always is.
Speaker 14 (28:44):
And gotta be.
Speaker 12 (28:45):
Ready to go.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
Tonight. The City wins Michigan City thirty seven to seventeen
over Lake Central. Cody Frinch, their head coach, coach, I
appreciate to call good luck next week.
Speaker 12 (28:57):
I think started thing you guys are doing. This is
a cool thing.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
Appreciate, thank you, thank you. You're welcome. Floyd Central Beach
Columbus East tonight, fifty six twenty two. The man from
w NAS, Brian Sullivan, joins me. It's an impressive win
for Floyd tonight.
Speaker 4 (29:13):
Brian, absolutely was. We hit the midway point of the
conference season. Both these teams undefeated, as was Bedford North Lawrence.
But Bedford had Jennings County to night they won sixty
three nothing.
Speaker 15 (29:26):
So you knew one of these teams was going.
Speaker 4 (29:29):
To come away dropping back behind two teams in the
conference and so expected a tough one. But Floyd Central
jumped on Columbus East early and just never gave him
any breathing.
Speaker 9 (29:39):
Room in it.
Speaker 4 (29:40):
It's not the scheduling that you want on your homecoming,
but but Floyd went in there and kind of ruined
it this evening.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
Well, no, but you know, sometimes that's how it goes.
So who were the standouts tonight?
Speaker 4 (29:54):
You know, Sebastian Robertson has been tough all year and
he again Brian in eighty three yards this evening, But
really quarterback Jack mal He's been dealing with a wrist
injury and has not been as precise as what we'd
expected this year. Tonight, he came out at halftime, Columbati's
(30:15):
scored right before the half, had a little bit of momentum,
Floyd got a stop and then he goes eight for
eight in the third quarter for about one hundred and
thirty yards and just was surgical in what he was
doing out there. And they have such a good running
attack when they can get their passing game going and
get Donovan Taylor and Jackson Stone's working on the edges,
makes Floyd a real tough team to defend against.
Speaker 15 (30:39):
All Right, who's up next for Floyd Central, Well, they
turn around and they're going to be hosting bed from
North Lawrence, so that could potentially determine the conference championship
next week.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
Down Floyd Nubbs outstanding tonight. You know the man himself,
mister Brian Sullivan from wnas Floyd Central over Columbus's fifty
six twenty two. Brian, it's always great to talk to you.
Thanks so much for the call. We greatly appreciate it.
(31:10):
Thank you so much, No problem, coach, thank you. Derek
Dean joins me from Attica. Coach. Somehow my device has
decided tokunk out, give me the good news on your
win tonight. Who did you beat?
Speaker 14 (31:26):
We beat North from millions tonight homecoming win. So you
can't really ask for much more than that, so all
is good. It was kind of ugly, but it doesn't matter.
When you come out on the right side of the scoreboards.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
It's always one of those you know, it's homecoming, it's special,
it's a special night for everybody involved. And that's one
where you, you know what, you really want to play
well and you really want to w and it's just
great to be able to say, well, you know, we
got we did what we needed to do, and winning
at this time of year is always good. Yeah.
Speaker 14 (32:01):
And and for Attica, winning is is kind of new.
This is our second one on the year, but it
came after thirty nine forty straight losses, so it feels
really good. Our kids are, i think, starting to catch
the bugs for winning and starting to kind of enjoy,
enjoy crying out on the right side. You know, we
(32:22):
didn't particularly play well tonight, but part of learning the
skill of winning is being able to win when it
gets ugly and having kids that are willing to fight
when adversity strikes, and I thought we did that really
well tonight. So as a coach, we got a lot
of stuff that we need to clean up. But really
happy for our kids in our community to have a
(32:43):
homecoming win and to start to find the right side
the scoreboard. It's been a while.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
I'm happy for you. I mean, I'm happy. I'm happy
for the kids. I mean, you know, I just you know,
to go out there every day and give you the
buy in that they have and not get rewarded. That's hard.
You have time to hang on through this break. I
want to talk much more. I mean, I think these
kinds of things deserve a little more time hang in.
(33:10):
Will be back after the school board update.
Speaker 14 (33:12):
Okay, all right, sounds good.
Speaker 1 (33:17):

(35:02):
networkid Sports Almanic.
Speaker 2 (35:04):
Couns, Welcome back. We returned to our conversation with Derek Dean,
the head coach at Attica. They beat the North or
Million tonight, coach, gotta be a great feeling for your kids.
So who do you play next week?
Speaker 14 (35:16):
It's really tough, man. We've got Reverton Park. It's the
top team in the WRC right now and probably one
of the top teams in one all of one A.
And I think a team that's looking to probably make
a run deep this this postseason.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
Well, I hope there's a big celebration going on right
now at Attica and this big homecoming win.
Speaker 14 (35:40):
Yeah, I think the kids are excited, you know, a bud,
the kids rest the field, and I mean it was
right down to the wire, you know, make us stop
getting an interception on the goal line as time expires
to seal a game.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
So, uh, just a wonderful.
Speaker 14 (35:57):
Time for our kids. And like I said, Brian, you
were alluding to that, something that really impressed me when
I interviewed for this job was how dedicated the kids were.
You know, they had gone through this long losing streak,
but the kids continue have continued to show up for me,
continue to work. And as I talked to the kids
and really got to know them, it's something that really
(36:19):
attracted me to this job is it wasn't that the
kids weren't capable, It's that they were underserved. You know,
they went through four coaches in four years, my seniors
last year, and that's really.
Speaker 11 (36:31):
Tough, man.
Speaker 14 (36:31):
But they never they never stopped, they never quit, They've
never given up. And that tells you a lot about
young kids. And when you have young kids like that,
it's just a matter of time before you can put
in some consistency, build a culture and get back to
the winning ways. You know the Attica was experiencing not
long agoing to Ryan Goods. So that is that is
(36:54):
the goal to get back to that, to that state,
and this is just another building block of getting back.
Speaker 2 (37:01):
Derek Dean, congratulations to you and Attiko on the big
win over North for million. Good luck next week.
Speaker 5 (37:06):
I really appreciate that.
Speaker 14 (37:07):
Coach, Thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
You're welcome. Thank you. Paul Condrey the man Regional Radio
Sports Network, Indiana Football Hall of Fame, Broadcasters, Hall of Fame,
all those halls of fame. He has a Chesterton Portage matchup.
Chesterton wins this one thirty six to sixteen tonight, Paul,
very impressive win for Chesterton.
Speaker 5 (37:26):
Yeah, Chesterton improves the four and two on the season.
It was the Andrew Gomeya Show for the second week
in a row. Big win for Chesterton. They win per
se the Battle of Porter County with wins against Portage
and Valparasa. So Chesterton football right now is are the
Kings of Porter County. MC Andrew Goveagos ballistic tonight, two
(37:48):
hundred yards rushing for the outstanding senior. He also had
three touchdowns to boot. It was a game that was
marred by penalties, injuries, and all kinds of crazy things tonight.
So they going for Chesterton. Portage finds themselves in a
situation where they're a win lists on the season. But
(38:09):
Chesterton with looking ahead some winnable games, but they'll close
out the season against Mighty Marraville and Mighty Crown Points,
and so you got to try to grab these wins
while you can with the teams that they have on
this part of the schedule, but it's going to get
difficult for the Trojans moving forward. But impressed very much
(38:30):
with the Chesterton offensive line. We did everything they can
and then some to allow Andrew Govey to run over people,
and that's what he did tonight.
Speaker 2 (38:39):
Chesterton over Portage thirty six to sixteen. Tonight, Paul Condrey
and I will wrap up the Friday Night Lights tomorrow
night on the show, recapping what happened around our state tonight. Paul,
thanks as always, have a safe trip and we'll talk
to you tomorrow night. Thanks coach, thank you. Let's start
(39:01):
it out with Austin Colby from Western High School thirty
four to twenty winners over West Lofaiette. Coach, you got
about a minute here, give me an overview of the
win if you can.
Speaker 16 (39:11):
Yeah, you know, it came out in the first half
and it's very competitive games thirteen thirteen at a half time,
and you know we were.
Speaker 5 (39:18):
Able to pull it out in the.
Speaker 16 (39:20):
Second half and score three more times.
Speaker 5 (39:22):
But what be at the good football team?
Speaker 12 (39:24):
You know, the records not really.
Speaker 16 (39:26):
Indicated of how good of a team.
Speaker 7 (39:27):
They are.
Speaker 16 (39:27):
So super proud of our program, and you know, first
time Western High School's ever beat West Lofett in football
in school history.
Speaker 5 (39:34):
So super proud of our guys.
Speaker 2 (39:36):
Perfect. I need you to hang on through this short break, coach,
and we'll talk about who played well for you. Okay, absolutely, yep.
Scott Agnes will be with us later in this hour
to talk about the fever and they're tough loss. We're
back on Indiana Sports Talk. Come back. Austin Colby rejoins me,
the head coach at Western High School. Coach, before you
(39:57):
got squeezed at the end, First time you've beaten West
Lafe and how many times?
Speaker 5 (40:02):
Yeah, I think we did the school.
Speaker 16 (40:04):
We were ohing nineteen against West Faff yet all time,
Holy moly, unbelievable program.
Speaker 2 (40:12):
I would think so right, tell me how you do it.
Speaker 16 (40:15):
Yeah, So you know, I we ran for about two
to eighty five tonight.
Speaker 15 (40:20):
Levi shoemaker or quarterback.
Speaker 16 (40:22):
Carried the ball twenty twenty nine times for one hundred
and forty seven yards.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
Matthew mcinitcheck carried it for twenty.
Speaker 16 (40:28):
Four twenty four times for about one hundred yards. So
you know, those two seniors for US have been rocks
for us since day one, since I got there back
in January. So you know, we're looking to continue to
ride those guys throughout the throughout the rest of the
regular season and then into the postseason. But uh, you know,
they they really carried the load to night in the
(40:49):
offensive line's done a great job.
Speaker 5 (40:51):
And defensively we played.
Speaker 16 (40:52):
Well and gave up a couple of big scores on
a blown coverage and then you know, a misalignment in
the first half. But I really love defensively in the
second half.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
So Western over West Lofayette thirty four to twenty Austin Colby,
Congratulations again and good luck next week.
Speaker 5 (41:11):
Hey, thank you, good to talk to you.
Speaker 2 (41:13):
Thanks so much. Russe Radkey joins me the Hall of
Famer from Knox. Who'd you beat tonight, coach.
Speaker 7 (41:20):
We played a team Laville Lancers. Was a sixty two
to sixteen win. But Laville's a very good football team
and that kind of tells the story what we're able
to do right now and the ability of our offensive
line and the strength that they've been able to use
(41:41):
really gives us a fifty seven carries on offense or
five hundred and thirty eight yards rushing.
Speaker 5 (41:49):
Wow.
Speaker 7 (41:49):
And Miles, Miles McLoughlin had forty carries for four hundred
and fifty seven.
Speaker 2 (41:57):
That's kind of why he's leading the state and rushing
that's impressive. Nation also, I would I I'm sorry, I misspoke,
he is leading the nation. All right? So who's coming
up next for you next week?
Speaker 7 (42:13):
We've got this conference makes this tougher, that's why we
were in it. You Northern State Conference. Next year we
played jim Town and if things work out, will probably
be playing Breemen for the conference championship the next week.
Speaker 2 (42:27):
That sounds perfect, all right, coach, I appreciate the call.
I am up against it. We're about to go off
the air. But tonight, Knox with a big win over
Laville sixty two sixteen. Russ Radke the Hall of Famer,
the legend himself. I appreciate the call greatly. Coach, good
luck next week.
Speaker 7 (42:46):
I appreciate everything you guys do for any other football.
Speaker 2 (42:50):
Thank you, thanks for the kind words. Thanks so much.
I want to thank Land and Coons. Ethan Patterson, great
job as always, gentlemen, fantastic job. Thanks to all of
you too. My thanks also to our great stations around
the state to bring you the show every Friday and
Saturday night, and for thirty one years you've made us
(43:12):
