Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's Eric Jones, Tyler Redick, and Ty Gibbs all in
Toyota Machines. The first time that's ever happened in six
will be William Byron, seventh, Chris Busher, eighth, Carsonjosovar, ninth,
aj Allmendinger, and tenth will be Austin Sindrick. Last year's
winner was Kyle Larson. He will start in the thirteenth position.
That's tomorrow at two pm. The green flag drops it
(00:22):
to be on TNT Sports as Larson looks to become
the fourth ever two time winner of the Brickyard four hundred.
Also today, in Major League Baseball, a few finals to
tell you about. Starting with the Cardinals, they fell three
to one to San Diego. The Guardians split a doubleheader
as they lost the first game five to three, but
(00:42):
they win the second game six to four, as they
played in Kansas City today. The Chicago Cubs won the
Battle of Chicago today as they won six to one
over the White Sox. The Reds defeat the Rays six
to two, The Jay's defeat the Tigers six to one,
and there was your final in the MLB. Let's move
down to the minor league level where All three games
(01:04):
today are final two winners, one loser. That one loser
being the Fort Wayne ten Caps. They fall seven to
nothing to their Cedar Rapids Colonels. Both teams had six hits,
but Fort Wayne loses by seven. For the Indianapolis Indians,
they get the victory. They win five to four over
the Toledo mud Hens. Then they move to sixty and
forty on the season. And the other minor league team
(01:27):
in Indiana, the South Bend Cubs, they get the win
four to one over the Dayton Dragons. For the Indiana Fever,
they will play tomorrow at three pm as they take
on the Chicago Sky The Sky said at seven and seventeen,
the Fever at thirteen and twelve. The Fever currently in
the race to trying to become one of those playoff teams.
The top eight make it. They currently sit in seventh position.
(01:50):
Then they have the floor tomorrow at three pm. Up
in the Windy City.

Indianapolis Indians winners tonight over the Toledo mud Hens. A
voice of the Indians' Howard Kilman, Howard, A good night,
(02:40):
a good Saturday night for the Indians. They get things
done against Toledo.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
Well, the bottom line is good, as you said you are.
The Indians win the game five or four. They held
on in the nine inning carry Carpenter belt that you
run Homer for to Rio to pull the hands will
then a run. But the game was not an artistic success.
There were more than ten walks in the game, a
lot of strikeouts, but the Indians had a five run inning.
(03:07):
They scored all five of their runs in the fourth inning.
There were two bases loaded walks in the inning, a
batsman with the bases loaded, so it was not artistic,
but as you said, it was a good night for
the Indians.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Yeah, sounds like it. Big big innings. Sometimes that's how
things go, and that's that's the difference in the ballgame.
The five run fourth, as you mentioned, Carry Carpenter was
kind of a highlight adjoining Toledo coming down from the majors.
Right he was batting dh batting second tonight, and he
was a guy that he did pick up the one
(03:41):
hit in two urbis for Toledo, but Indians for the
most part kind of keeping him in check.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Well, you know, you say that his first time up,
he thrilled the ball in the first inning over one
hundred miles an hour off the bat in our first basement,
Darrek Hall made a leak and grabbed a robin. His
second time up, he thrilled the ball right at Derek Hall,
who caught it again. So he's sworn the bat well,
(04:06):
which is the main thing for a rehabber. And then
as you said, he built that opposite field to run
homer late in the game. So the Tigers really need him.
I mean, the Tigers had the best record in baseball
and now they've lost twelve out of their last thirteen games,
so they can use him. And the Indians got a
(04:27):
big two run single from Billy Cooker and they came
out on top.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
It's the one hundredth game mark also that we've reached.
We've reached the century mark for the Indians sixty and forty.
That's a pretty good record to have after one hundred games.
Was this the hope? Was this the expectations. Have the
Indians exceeded what maybe some fans or some people in
the city thought they would be after one hundred games.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Well, it's a very good record, as you said, and
I think the fact that the Indians have played phenomenal
baseball at home.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
They are about eight.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
L five hundred on the road, but at home they've
played phenomenal ball a very good record. We have veteran
position players for the most part, not Triple A young players,
and they're good among the position players. We do have
some prospects as far as pitchers go, and one of
them was on the mound that I had Hunter Barco
(05:26):
and he had a rough night. I think he was
pressing and trying too hard. But he has a chance
to be a fine major league pitcher, as does Bubba
Chandler too, So I think that everybody has to be happy.
Sixty and forty six hundred baseball is excellent.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
And now what's the mood moving forward with this team?
What are the expectations. How do you feel after these
one hundred games have concluded, and what are you hoping
for for the rest of the season out of this
out of this ball club.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Well, I feel very good about it, and I think
that's the feeling on the ball club. And you want
to finish first. Now, Jacksonville won the first half, and
Jacksonville will host the best of three league championship series
for the Governor's Cup and the winner of the second half,
and the Indians are right there battling for that. The
winner of the second half will play Jacksonville. Now the
(06:24):
tough thing is, you know we mentioned that, but there
are twenty teams in this league. You have to finish
with the best record out of twenty teams. So you
could be very good, and that doesn't mean you'll get
in because somebody can be even better when you have
twenty teams. So that's what they're up against. They were
in contention the second half last year and they certainly
(06:47):
have a good chance.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
They're right there this year.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
The Indians first in the West sixty and forty. Now
their record after the win tonight over Toledo five to four.
The Voice of the Indians, Howard Kilman, joining us. Howard,
thanks so much, fans going happy or going home happy
tonight and the Indians picking up another win.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Well, Jared, thank you very much. It was my pleasure.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Awesome Howard Kelman of the Indians. Always good to hear
from him. As the Indians send the fans home with
the five to four win, sixteen forty looks pretty good
after one hundred games. We'll see if the Indians can
keep things rolling. Were Indiana sports update. I'm Jays Hodge
to talk some Indiana Fever basketball and they recently signed
(07:36):
Ford Chloe Bibby to a seven day contract and today
she got to speak with the media for the first time.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
Obviously really physical, team, tough, fast paced and I like
that fast style, so I think that suits me a lot,
fast paced suit three ball and I think that's you know,
exactly what I do. So hopefully I can, you know,
find my strides here and get into some of em rhythm.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
And after her first practice, Stephanie White, the head coach
of the Indiana Fever, talked a little bit about her.
Speaker 6 (08:05):
Yeah, I mean her ability stretch the floor, to be
a shot maker, to create some space on the interior
for ab. You know, her size certainly as well, and
as are all things that we liked, and you know,
now we get an opportunity to see. She came in,
she studied the offense, and she's been good. She's been
really good.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
The Fever take the floor tomorrow at three pm in Chicago,
taking on the sky as they look to stay above
five hundred on the year, chasing down a playoff spot
in the w NBA and Minor League Baseball. Today, the
South ben Cubs are winners four to one over Dayton,
the Indians are five for winners over the Toledo mud Hens,
and the Fort Wayne ten Caps lose seven to nothing
(08:46):
at the hands of the Cedar Rapids Colonels. Tomorrow. The
Brickyard four hundred Chase Briscoe winning pole position today after
Denny Hamlin hits the wall on turn two in qualifying.
Hamlin who was P one in practice. We'll start shotgun
thirty ninth position tomorrow and as I end this cop
up date, guys, I have a question for you. Who
(09:07):
do you think wins the brickyard four hundred tomorrow?
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Welcome back to Indiana Sports Talk. This is Network Indiana
Jared Lewis and tonight filling in for Bob Lovell. It's
good to be with you. We're into our third and
final hour of this show. Good to hear from Howard
Kellman of the Indianapolis Indians. We'll hear from a man
(09:32):
associated with another minor league baseball team. That would be
Brendan King of the South Bend Cubs. Brendan is on
the line and a good night for South Bend. It
looks like Brendan four to one winners at Dayton.
Speaker 7 (09:48):
Yeah, Jay, thanks for having me, and a big one
indeed for the South Bend Cubs. After gofiteing a little
bit over the last two days, Jared, it's been an
interesting series considering the fact that tonight was the first
game in the five games played here in Dayton where
South Bend had scored the game's first run, and even
though Dayton was on the board first the first four
(10:08):
days of the series. The Cubs were able to come
back and win games on Tuesday and Wednesday by scoring
nine unanswered runs and then six unanswered runs, respectively. But
on Thursday and Friday it was Dayton able to hold
on for victory. So it just goes to show you
how important that first run is, especially in minor league baseball,
but definitely major league baseball too, And tonight the Cubs
(10:30):
were able to get those first runs of the game,
and a really nice story.
Speaker 4 (10:33):
Tonight on the mound jay for the Cubs.
Speaker 7 (10:35):
Kent and Egbert pitching fires six innings of one run
baseball in his hometown. A Dayton area native, grew up
playing high school ball here, played college ball at Miami, Ohio,
and then signed with the Cubs as a pre agent
out of college. This was his first game back in Dayton,
getting the pitch in front of his family and friends tonight.
And he grew up going to ballgames here in Dayton,
(10:56):
out at day Air ballparks. So pretty amazing. I mean, imagine,
you know, being a kid grown up in Chicago getting
the pitch at Wrigley Field or right field on the
south side. This is Kent and Egbert's homecoming tonight, and
he was fantastic in those six scoreless or six innings
of one run ball. So he earns the win and
it's a good night overall for South Bend and now
leads to series three games to two.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
That's always a good story when you hear about someone
who performs well, they return to their hometown or they
go to a ball parker stadium where they had gone
to as a kid or a fan, and you know,
they end up proving themselves and kind of making a
name for themselves, I suppose, or doing better than what
they had before. That's always a good story. You can
(11:37):
easily root for guys who end up guys or girls
who end up doing that. This has been an interesting
month for South Bend. They start off the month they
nearly get swept by Peoria, then they almost sweep Wisconsin,
so it's kind of a month of series where they're
doing the sweeping, they're almost getting swept, and now with
(11:58):
Dayton here, it's a little more mixed, but kind of
an up and down month overall for South Bend.
Speaker 7 (12:03):
Yeah, that's what happens sometimes when there's roster turnover and
the second half of the season has started, Jay, and
the Cubs are right in it because due to a
Quad Citi's lost tonight, they're in first place. Cubs are
only two and a half games back of a playoff spot.
So when there's this much roster turnover, you see a
lot of that inconsistency when it comes in series sometimes,
(12:23):
but it is compelling to look at because the Cubs,
as you said, almost swept the Timber Ratlers up in
Wisconsin last road trip, and then to start a key
series coming out of the All Star Break, they dropped
three in a row to the Beloyd Skycarp But weirdly enough,
but Lloyd has now lost five straight games since that series,
so the Cubs have made up some grounds. So I
think your point that you bring up is important considering
(12:46):
the Cubs the next six weeks and hard to believe
there's seven weeks of the season left that the Cubs
are going to play every single West Division team in
one six game series, including what is going to be
the most important series of the season, and starting on
Tuesday in South Bend, the Cubs will take on the
Quad Cities Riverband instead of the affiliate of the Kansas
City Royals and Quad Cities heading into tomorrow, is going
(13:09):
to lead the division by a game over Beloit and
two and a half games over South Bend. So tomorrow's
game in Dayton is pretty crucial that the Cubs pick
up a win, not just to win the series against
the Dragons, who have struggled this season, but also it
takes some momentum in the next week.
Speaker 4 (13:25):
But I will say we started this answer with roster turnover.
Speaker 7 (13:29):
The Cubs are playing with twenty seven men right now, Jarrett,
and in minor league baseball you can carry.
Speaker 4 (13:34):
Thirty men on your roster. Considering the MLB draft.
Speaker 7 (13:38):
Just passed, and there are some guys right now at
Low A Myrtle Beach that are looking really sharp. I
don't know exactly what's going to happen, but just looking
at the fact that the Cubs are three players short
from a full roster, you can see some turnover in
the future for surecoming and we'll see if the Cubs
get some help because the playoff push is officially on
and in the championship seasons of twenty nineteen and twenty
(13:59):
twenty two, who South Bend was a second half playoff
team and that's usually the better route to take. When
you win in the first half, likely the team that
you take into the postseason is going to be entirely
different from what you had in half. Number one, if
your second half playoff team, the team that got you
into the postseason is then coasting into that playoff first round.
(14:20):
So we'll see if the Cubs can make a run here.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
So an interesting couple of weeks upcoming for the South
Bend Cubs. They can win the series tomorrow at day In,
take it four games to two, and then, like you said,
Brendan Quad Cities, that series will start on Tuesday at home.
On the other side, or moving up a couple of ladders,
you have your Chicago Cubs taking on the other team
(14:45):
in the city. Is that how you refer to the
White Sox? Usually it's just the other team.
Speaker 7 (14:52):
I usually don't refer to them at all personally after funny, Yeah,
I'm just kidding. I'm from the South Side. Most of
my family are Socks fans. I'm one of few Cubs
fans in my family, so it was fun growing up.
And obviously when I was a kid. You know, I
was born in nineteen ninety four, so I was eleven
when the Socks won their World Series at five, and
(15:14):
you know it was it was cool. You know, being
on the South side, you appreciate good baseball. But yeah,
I think, you know, after all those years where I
was the only Cubs fan in my in my grade
school classes for years upon years, it's been fun to
be out on the on the better end here. Although
the Socks Jay did look pretty good last night, the
Cubs got them back to that.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
Yeah, they did, six to one, the Cubs winners over
the White Sox. With this team, it always seems like
from just the eye test with me is the long
ball always helps the Cubs win games. And they got
too tonight from Ian Happen and then Matt Shaw also homered.
They both homered in the seventh inning. It appears this
(15:54):
team really is using the long ball, I think, to
win a lot of games. Do you feel that.
Speaker 7 (15:59):
Way they are? And that's probably expected when you look
at how the roster setup was going to be at
the start of the season, acquiring Kyle Tucker and boy
Matt Shaw is really finding it, isn't he. I mean
twenty twenty three South Bend Cub, a guy that we
saw star with South Bend for a matter of weeks
back in that season, and you know, he had a
home run earlier in the week against Kansas City. He
(16:19):
is really finding that power stroke. And I find it
kind of funny that the Cubs are obviously caught up
in trade rumors, being just a few days to the
trade deadline. I find it kind of interesting that people
are so enamored with the Cubs trying to go find
a third baseman. I think the Cubs got their third baseman, Jay.
I don't think Matt Shaw has been as bad as
people make it out to be, and especially as of late,
(16:42):
he's been fantastic. And here's the thing I'll say about
Shaw is the fact that when he went back down
to Triple AIOWA at the start of the season after
his early season struggles, people really started to complain about
the defense at third base and how it was not
up to par. Every time Matt Shaw has played third base,
nobody has talked about the glove at third base because.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
It's been that good.
Speaker 7 (17:01):
That's what happens in baseball. Nobody talks about things when
things are going well. That's kind of how things are
supposed to be, right. And Matt Shaw he's finding it
with the bat and at the bottom of the order.
I don't think the Cubs need to go out and
get a third basement. I don't think they need to
make it upgrade at third base. In my mind, the
Cubs need to go out and address everything.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
When it comes to.
Speaker 7 (17:19):
Starting pitching, I think the Cubs should utilize two starting pitchers.
That would be really nice if they could. And then
if you can get a back end of the bullpen guy,
that's kind of the cherry on top. But in terms
of the lineup, it feels like every night a different
guy's hitting a home run, whether it's Pca or Hap
or Tucker or Shaw or even Carson Kelly, who has
done a great job as the backup role when Miguel
Amaya has been hurt this year. You know, the trade
(17:40):
deadline is gonna be interesting to watch. But in my mind,
and it's not just because you know, I may be
a little bias having Shaw as a minor league player,
I think he's been a very fine third basement and
the Cubs should put all chips in when it comes
to pitching.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
Okay, I'll wrap things up with you with this real quick.
The game that Nick Kurtz had for the Age oh
Man home runs. He went six for six. Is that
the greatest performance by an MLB player ever?
Speaker 4 (18:07):
It's the best game ever. It's the best game ever.
Speaker 7 (18:09):
And you can make an argument for all those Babe
Ruth games where you know, he launches all kinds of
home runs and back in the nineteen teams, but this
is we're talking about the greatest era of pitching in
baseball history. We're talking about the best stuff on the
mound in baseball history. And Nick Kertz went out and
did that. I mean, that's the best game in MLB history,
(18:31):
without a question.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
And to do it as a rookie too. Yeah, incredible, incredible,
awesome stuff. Brendan King, thanks so much. You're always good
to us. It's good to hear from you again.
Speaker 4 (18:41):
You too, Jay catch up, So thanks all right.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Brendan King of the South Ben Cubs will have John
Nolan on the other side. This is Indiana Sports Talk.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
For this network, Indiana Sports Update. I'm Jayson Hodge. Just
take a look at what's happening around the city. Coming
up tomorrow the Brickyard four at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Chase Briscoe will lead off on the pole Denny Hamlin,
who was P one and the twenty minute practice period
earlier today, is going to start dead last due to this.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
Here's Denny Hamlin. He's on the loud pedals. He makes his.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
Way to the south short shoot, makes his way through
that midway point of the south end of his course.
Now works his way through turn number two, trying to
not Mitchell m oh and he'll hit the wall.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
Not gonna do it.
Speaker 8 (19:27):
We'll lose control of the car, lock it.
Speaker 7 (19:29):
Down, heavy contact with the front of that car into
the inside retaining wall of the exit of turn number two.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
That car will come to west at the midway point
of the back straight away Denny Hamlin crashing into the
wall and turn too. As you heard there on the
IMS radio networks of Hamlin will start dead last and
thirty ninth position tomorrow, looking to complete the career Grand Slam.
The top five tomorrow on the order will be Chase Briscoe,
(19:56):
Bubba Wallace, Eric Jones, Tyler Redick, and Ty Gibbs, off
of which are Toyota machines. The first time that has
ever happened for the Indianapolis Colts. They finished up another
day of training camp today at six PM, and now
four days into it. Here's lou An Arumo on the defense.
Speaker 9 (20:15):
I think it's a good start, you know, only two
days into it, but uh, you know, we're always going
to emphasize the fundamentals of playing with leverage and being
Titan coverage, and the guys are, you know, starting to
get a feel for it and matching routes pretty good
so far.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
The Colts will continue the preparation tomorrow during training camp
as they get ready for their first preseason game on
August seventh in Baltimore. For Network Indiana Sports, I'm Jay Sodge.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
Welcome back to Indiana's Sports Talk on Network Indiana. Chert
lewis with you. We'll talk to John Nolan here soon,
the voice of the Indiana Fever, who they will take
you on the Chicago Sky. That game tips off tomorrow
(21:02):
three o'clock Eastern. The Fever trying to kind of get
away from that five hundred mark. They've just been hovering
around it. They're one game above there, one game below.
Right now, they're thirteen and twelve. They have been able
to take care of business against the Sky and the
first two matchups this season, and the team will be
(21:26):
without Caitlin Clark. It appears again her status was questionable
for this game heading into it. It appears though that
she will be ruled out with that groin injury. She
has missed more than a dozen games now with that
injured growing. So it's just been kind of lingering around,
(21:46):
and that's what those kinds of injuries do. So we'll
talk to John about that when he calls in. Looking
forward to chatting with him, and then we'll to wrap up.
We'll see some more or we'll talk about some more
action involving the Indianapolis Colts and training camp as they
(22:10):
wrapped up the first week earlier today, and then week
two we'll pick up on Monday at Grand Park in Westfield.
We'll hear from Cam bind Them again, who is on
the Quary and Company show on the Fan earlier this week,
one of the newest editions for the Colts, So we'll
(22:30):
hear more from him and how a Colts training camp
is going to finish up. Indiana Sports Talk Tonight, July
twenty sixth, John Nolan is on the phone. He has
the call of the Fever and the Chicago Sky Tomorrow
in Chicago, the Fever can try and maybe start putting
a winning streak together, John, this team, as we mentioned,
(22:53):
it's just it's a win, a loss, maybe two wins
in a row. They haven't really been able to get
on a run. Do you think they can do that tomorrow?
Speaker 8 (23:03):
Hey, Jared, thanks for having me on.
Speaker 4 (23:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (23:05):
Certainly has been that pattern this year of up and down.
Now that said, coming off of a solid win against
the Las Vegas bases at home on Thursday night, they
are set up well here to build off that tomorrow
playing at Chicago. Now you know, still know, Caitlin Clark
continues to be out with the right groin injury and
there's no timeline for a return. But not only does
(23:26):
the Chicago team have the second worst record or third
worst record in the league this season, they're shorthanded themselves.
One of their top scores, Ariel Atkins is already out
with a leg injury. Angel Reese is questionable with a
back injury. She missed their last game there without a
couple other players at least as well, so they're they're
(23:49):
They don't have maybe one player as good as Kaitlin Clark,
of course out injured, but they have several out injured.
So uh Stever, coming to this one tomorrow, certainly the
favorite to win and make.
Speaker 4 (24:00):
It to in a row.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
They've been able to, like we said, you know, handle
business against a Chicago Sky team so far the season.
They opened up the season with a massive yeah win.
If you remember that, that seems like forever ago, or
maybe not, maybe it seems like just last week for you.
This season has been flying by. But the Fever did
add a new player. Talk about this Chloe Bibby. She's
(24:24):
twenty seven Australian. She last played for Golden State. What's
her game like?
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (24:31):
And by the way, just to follow up on what
you mentioned there at the first couple of games against Chicago,
that's here one thing that really stands out in both
those wins, I mean complete team efforts for the Fever,
but in particular they were outstanding defensively and only giving
up in the fifties. And actually the last time that
they played here in Chicago was the fewest points the
Fever had allowed in a game in a decade. So
(24:52):
trying to build off of that and now yes, having
Chloe Bibby in the mix as well. So funny enough,
the Fever faced Chloe a couple of times this year,
including at Golden State and then earlier this month at
Cambridge Fieldhouse. So she is a post, so she does
bring size, but that says she is a stretch post
player has ranged from the outside. And so again for
(25:14):
anyone who wasn't aware the Fever had an open roster
spot first half of the season, they couldn't feel that
spot due to a salary cap limitations in the w NBA,
and then they didn't jump out it, you know, the
first day that they were able to sign someone to
a pro rated deal. They wanted to be selective in
the process and you're still as you know, part of
(25:36):
the reason there's expansion coming in the w NBA is
because there's really more players qualified and capable of playing,
and there are roster spots. So Chloe Vibby wound up
being a roster casualty there in Golden State, and the
Fever assessed the options out there and deemed that.
Speaker 4 (25:51):
She was going to be the the.
Speaker 8 (25:53):
Best piece to add and you know, extend the depth,
especially inside, because I think that that's been an issue
again some of the bigger teams in the league, like Atlanta,
which has both Brittany Griner and three Jones like there
have been some some games where the fever AA has
felt have been undersized. In New York is another example
(26:13):
of that. There are really really long, tall teams, so
that should should help to make up for that a bit.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
In Clark's absence, though we've we've seen some really good
games from Kelsey. Mitchell seems to step up in in
moments where where Clark isn't out on the floor. Natasha
Howard of Leah Boston, they had double doubles against Las Vegas,
that three woman corps right there. That they've They've played
well together in plenty of games. It's just the consistency
(26:43):
just quite hasn't been there with with Clark being out
do you expect and obviously we don't know the timetables
though still with with her injury, but I mean, can
that core, you know, start to pick things up, can
and be more consistent as the games go forward?
Speaker 8 (27:01):
Yeah, And in reality, as a team, they weren't consistent
enough even in the game in which Caitlyn has played,
winning record, but again never had quite the success that
they were all hoping for it. And talking with the group,
I mean, they point especially to the defensive end where
just that's where they really need to button it up
and not have some lapses along the way. So yeah,
(27:23):
I think you know. Offensively, Aliah Boston, Natasha Howard, they've
been won two in the league and field goal percentage
over the course of the year, You've had Lexi Holes
one of the top three point shooters in the league.
Now over the last several weeks, Sophie Cunningham has actually
been the top three point shooter in the league. And
Kelsey Mitchell probably is always underappreciated as one of the
(27:44):
best scorers in the league. And it's amazing considering all
she's accomplished in her tenure as a Fever player. Now
in her eighth year here and becoming the franchises all
time leader in three pointers made, but this season averaging
yearly twenty points per game high for her, so already
a bucket. And she's found a way, especially in Caitlin
(28:05):
Dapson's here too, to score even more.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
Yeah, Kelsey Mitchell, she's been the leading score for the
Fever over the last seven games and in five of
those she's scored twenty or more. Up next, as we mentioned, Chicago,
that's tomorrow, and then the team returns home Wednesday to
face the Phoenix Mercury for looks like the first time
(28:28):
this season not to look past the sky already, but
after you beat them by thirty five to open the year,
and then about a month later you take him down
by twenty seven, maybe we'll just look past them for
the moment. But you have Phoenix at home, and then
you go on another long road trip of four straight
(28:50):
games on the road Dallas, Seattle, Los Angeles and Phoenix.
This is an important stretch coming up for this team
right right.
Speaker 8 (28:58):
And something that we've heard Stephanie Whitdon from players like
Kelsey Mitchell here recently as well as that like the
urgency a level life turned on. You're into the second
half of the season. Now Phoenix will be is the
only team they have not played yet this year. And actually,
as things currently stand, playing Phoenix would be a playoff
preview because Phoenix right now has a three seed fever
(29:22):
or six in the standing, so that would be a
first round to matchup in a best of three series,
of course, is the standing to expect to shuffle a lot.
But get that road trip going to Dallas, going to
La by the way, the LA Sparks site won on
the road against the New York Deliberty. The Sparks have
suddenly won five games in a row. They've actually won
both games at Gamebridge Field outs this year, So even
(29:44):
though that's a team that currently is outside of the
playoffs picture, he goes to show that really, I think
the overall quality around the league is I saw, based
off of what we saw from New York in two
games here recently, that they were kind of on another
tier from everybody in the league, with the exception of
maybe the Minnesota Link to have the best record the
York said, some players in and out of the lineup.
But yeah, it's a statement win for the Liberty or
(30:07):
for the Sparks over the Liberty.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
That's John Nolan, voice of the Indiana Fever. John, thanks
so much again for joining us. Good to talk to
you again.
Speaker 8 (30:16):
Yes, thanks so much. I'm standing outside of Gernano's Pizza.
I hope the traffic noise wasn't a disruption, but yeah,
you got to live it up when in Chicago.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
Oh wonderful. That sounds good.
Speaker 8 (30:26):
Yeah, bring it back.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
Oh yeah, it sounds good.
Speaker 1 (30:35):
For one last time. And I I'm Jay Sodge for
this Indiana Sports Talk update, Let's run through everything that's
happening around Indianapolis. Tomorrow, the Indiana Fever will be in
action at three PM as a take on the Chicago Sky.
The Fever currently thirteen to twelve, sitting seventh in the WNBA.
In Major League Baseball, a bunch of finals I can
(30:57):
get to tell you. The Cardinals, they lost the Pods
race three to one at home. The Guardians and Royals
had double header today. They split the double header. Royals
were five to three winners in the first game, Guardians
won six to four, and the night cap for the
Chicago Cubs, they won the Battle of Chicago as they
won six to one at the White Sox at Rate Field,
(31:18):
also six to one, was the final of the Tigers
and the Blue Jays, the Tigers on the losing end
of that, only having two hits in that ballgame. They
fall again as Toronto takes a stronghold on the al
and finally, Jarrett your Cincinnati Red six to two winners sover.
The Tampa Bay Rays are now one game back of
San Diego in the NL Wild Card Race. Today at
(31:41):
the IMS NASCAR Xfinity Pennzoil two point fifty Connor Zilich
picks up his third straight win and come from behind
fashion a wild race, six cautions, multiple accidents, but Zilich
picks up the win. Nineteen year old does. And then
tomorrow at the IMS will be the Brickyard four hundred
where Chase Brisco he earned pole position his fifth overall
(32:03):
poll of this season. The top ten goes Brisco, Bubba Wallace,
Eric Jones, Tyler Reddick, ty Gibbs, William Byron, Chris Busher,
Carson Hosovar aj Ahmendinger, and Austin Sindrick. That's the top
ten Tomorrow. Larson, last year's winner, he starts in thirteenth
position tomorrow at two pm.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
All right, thanks a lot, Jace, Welcome back to Indiana
Sports Talk here on Network Indiana Good chatting with John Noan,
the voice of the Indiana Fever as they looked for
their second straight win. Taking on the Chicago Sky tip
off three o'clock tomorrow. I believe that game is at
the United Center there where the Bulls play, although Caitlin
(32:51):
Clark will be out of the lineup. Butt Kelsey Mitchell
has really looked sharp for the Fever these past couple
of games. Like we said with John she's been the
leading scorer for the team in the last seven They
will try to take down the Sky. Then they will
return home for a game against the Phoenix Mercury and
(33:15):
then start that four game road trip out west with
games against the Storm in Seattle. They'll start things off,
I should say, with Dallas that game Friday, August first,
and then the Storm the following Sunday. Then it's the
(33:35):
La Sparks and then the Phoenix Mercury to finish out
the week, and then a majority of their games for
the rest of the regular season look to be at
Gamebridge Field House. I haven't gotten a chance to check
you out a game yet of the Fever at Gamebridge,
so hopefully we'll do that sometime next month and we'll
see the Indiana Fever continue to stack wins and maybe
(33:56):
improve their spot for the postseason. As for the Indianapolis Colts,
they finished up training camp the first week of training
camp I should say, at Grand Park in Westfield today.
Earlier today they had about an hour and a half
practice at Grand Park. The word is the defense is
(34:19):
looking pretty good, and that's a good sign. But then
that makes you think, okay, what about the offense. You
got some playmakers. We got one of the better running
backs in the league. We have a good wide receiver corps,
a bunch of young guys around Michael Pittman. Junior Tyler
Warren comes in the first round pick out of Penn State,
a really solid tight end. The word is he's been
(34:42):
snagging a lot of passes from Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson.
He's been a favorite target of those two quarterbacks who
are dueling it out for the starting quarterback position. No
clear front runner. You might hear some he should see
she said, that's kind of a ton to he said.
She said, on who is performing a little bit better
(35:06):
for that starting quarterback spot between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones.
So we'll watch and see how that plays out. Training
camp will pick up again on Monday, the team gets
a day off. Sunday, it's ten o'clock morning practice at
Graham Park for the Indianapolis Colts. We've heard from him
a couple of times. Cam Binam one of the newest editions,
(35:27):
comes over from Minnesota, like Travariusward. Those two really solid
defensive backs improving that defense tremendously, and you know, for
buying them. He's kind of a to me I thought
when we signed him. When we picked him up, I
was intrigued by the pickup. Knew he was a really
(35:50):
solid player and to have him paired with Travariusward and
Kenny Moore also, who's been with the Bolts for many
years now, that kind of group patrolling watching the eyes
of the quarterback is going to be fun to watch
and hopefully, you know, we can see this defense play
(36:15):
a lot better this season under a new defensive coordinator
at lou and Arumo. Cam Binam on what intrigued him
about joining this Indianapolis Colt squad.
Speaker 10 (36:25):
Just the history, I think, just going back just being
the franchise that it is, getting to hear about the
Ursa family and how big they were to the community.
Somebody has my jersey on over there, and that's the
first one hold on. Shout out to the fans. I'm
as signing you stay here. I'm assigned for you after
this interview. That's super cool. Yeah, so like that, just
the fans. I haven't been I haven't played a snap
(36:46):
in a real game and as a Colt, but we
have people walking around here with my jersey on so
that's big. So just being able to, you know, understand
the culture out here and seeing people, you know, just
how how hard they ride for the Colts. And that's
something I want to be a part of. And I
heard the stadium is rocking too.
Speaker 2 (37:02):
Good stuff out of cam bid them on the Query
and Company show. One More Break, We'll be back. This
is Indiana Sports Talk on Network Indiana Indiana Sports Talk
on this Saturday night in downtown Indianapolis. Jared lewis with
you our producer Tonight Ethan Patterson and providing the scoreboard
(37:23):
updates Chase Hodge. A few things of note before we
get out of here. The Brickyard four hundred of course tomorrow,
green flag waves at two o'clock Eastern time from the
world's greatest racecourse, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Chase Briscoe from Mitchell,
Indiana is on the poll for that race. The Indiana
(37:43):
Fever are in Chicago ticking on the sky. Tip off
is at three o'clock. And also Colt's training camp the
second week will pick up on Monday. They have a
practice at ten am at Grand Park in Westfield. I
wanted to wrap up real quick and talk about Ethan's
(38:05):
new favorite movie. It's you've seen Happy Gilmore too. You
watched it? You started it this week? Yeah, but you
haven't finished it yet.
Speaker 11 (38:15):
No, I need to finish. I started it today. We
know I got about seventy five percent through it. Okay,
no spoilers, But how do you feel about it? I've
heard mixed reviews. I've seen a lot of reviews. More recently,
people say it's actually funny.
Speaker 4 (38:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (38:33):
I if you're looking to be at the edge of
your seat, you're definitely gonna be sitting calm during this one.
But if you really like that first Happy Gilmore, you're
gonna like this one. There's a lot of ties to
old movies, real world callbacks, so those are kind of
funny to see because you're looking at real world athletes
in the movie as well. But you know, I, like
(38:56):
I said to you, I think that a lot of
times they try to do way too much with a
see and I felt like they did just enough to
be funny but not kind of riding that edge of corny,
which is a perfect thing for a movie like Happy Gilmore.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
Okay, good, So I may have to redownload Netflix, I
suppose if I actually want to watch this. Yeah, I did.
I did enjoy Happy Gilmore one. I've heard mixed reviews
about this one. I didn't or I wouldn't come in
with high hopes for this second one. But from what
I've heard recently from people who have seen it, they've
(39:32):
actually said it's funny. There's some really good cameos too,
anyone that you saw and you're just like, oh, okay, well.
Speaker 11 (39:40):
There was a lot from the last movie. I was
really surprised at how many golfers they got, like Scotty
obviously a big at home guy as he said in
the past, as well as you know Bryson de Shambo.
Getting those guys in the movies. I know they do
have a big media presence, but to get them to act,
and Scotty Scheffler's not the most energetic person, so it's
(40:00):
interesting to see how you'd handle acting now.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
He's too busy winning real tournaments. Every tournament, every tournament,
every week, doesn't matter where they are. Scottie is taking
home a trophy and taking home a lot of cash
for him and his caddie and his little boy who
stole the show and he won the British Open. That'll
(40:23):
do it. For us from Indiana Sports Talk again. Want
to thank our producer Ethan Patterson Jase Hodge providing scoreboard
updates tonight. My name's Jerreed Lewis. Tune in next week
Friday and Saturday, we'll be back here Indiana Sports Talk
on Network Indiana
