Speaker 1 (00:01):
Nathaniel Finch Kur Darling, it is a pleasure to be
with you and our producer Ethan Patterson from our downtown
Indianapolis studios with.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
So much to talk about.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
We've got baseball, the fever, a big win yesterday, they
play again later in the weekend. We have all the
action you could ask for at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway,
a little bit of football, a little bit of everything.
Let's start in the major leagues with some positive baseball
scores from around the Midwest. The Reds get a big
win seven to two at home against the Rays. How

(00:34):
about the win for Nick Martinez and the Reds. The
Cardinals blank the Padres three to zero. That one also
at home for the victor. Coach Love will be happy
with that score. In Chicago from the South Side, it
is the White Sox. It is the Cubs, and as
everybody predicted, the White Sox get the win twelve to five.

(00:56):
A position player on the mound in the last two
winnings for the Cubby. They'll play again tomorrow postponed Guardians
and Royals. We will have a twin bill there in
Kansas City for the Guardians.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
There the Tigers fall.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
They lose eleven of their last twelve, a huge slide
for what was once baseball's best team, still among the
top records in the major leagues. But my goodness, how
about this losing streak six to two A defeat today
at home against the Blue Jays. In Triple A Ball,
the Indianapolis Indians tied three to three going into the

(01:30):
ninth inning and they unfortunately fall against the Toledo mud
Hens at home.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
That one four to three the final. It was four
straight wins for the Tribe.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
They dropped this one, albeit in a close one. It's
final in Dayton the South Bend Cubs high ball four
to one. They lose against the Dragons. That one, again
is final. It was also a tight one for the
four wayn and ten Caps, four to three in ten innings.
The Colonels, top of the league, get the win there

(02:01):
four to three against the Fort Wayne TinCaps.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Taking a look at what this weekend.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Holds in NASCAR Here in Indianapolis tonight from Indianapolis Raceway Park,
it was the truck race, and that one won by
Lane Riggs, who led one hundred and eighty of the
two hundred laps, his second win this year. Let's talk
about the Xfinity race that comes tomorrow. The pennz Oil
two point fifty at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at the

(02:27):
Iconic Oval should be a good one for thirty eastern
that one and then of course on Sunday the Brickyard
four hundred, one of the crown jewels of this sport.
Two o'clock eastern on Sunday after noon. Also in action
the NTT IndyCar Series at Laguna Seca the Java House
Scroad Pried Streets on Sunday afternoon as well.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
It was a big win.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
For the Fishers Freight. How about this their final, their
final game of the season after winning their first two.
Of course, the brand new Arena League Football team indoor
football team here in Fishers. They won their first two
games of the season, then they lost nine straight.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
What do they do?

Speaker 1 (03:08):
They end the season with their fifth straight victory against
the Iowa Barnstormers.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Even better, eighty one to forty the win for the.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Fishers Freight, Congratulations on a great season. There the Indiana
Fever win by ten. Yesterday they defeat the Las Vegas Aces,
once one of the best teams in the league and
now it really gives the Fever a great opportunity. You
win the next couple of games before Caitlin Clark returns.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
And you'll see where you are in the playoff hunt.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
We have to just understand the urgency and attention to
detail that it takes. We don't have the luxury of
having breakdowns, of having lapses, you know, we just we
have to understand the sense of urgency that it takes
with each possession.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
That's the Fever coach Stephanie White Sunday afternoon in Chicago
against the Sky. Angel Reese did not play last night
and we will see with that back injury if she
suits up on Sunday. The Indianapolis Colts Scott training camp underway.
Anthony Richardson back on the fold with a lot of
fans support.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
No, it's exciting, you know because I know what the
city loves and supports me. You know, I just got
to do my part, you know, make sure I can
do everything in my power to be the quarterback that
they want me to be and need me to be.
You know. So it definitely feels good, but I can
let it get to my head. You know, I still
got a lot of work to do, and I still
got to get that job, so you know, I definitely appreciate.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
It, but we're not done by far.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
His best day of training camp so far today, Nathaniel Finch, you.

Speaker 5 (04:27):
Would have mentioned this as far as a baseball stance
is concerned, before we move on to talk about some
minor league baseball here in just a little bit. Nick
Kurtz of the Athletics hitting four home runs tonight, dominating
the Houston Astros fifteen to two. Four home runs. That's

(04:48):
that's an absolutely insane So I just want to make
sure that at least anybody and everybody is aware of
that one. Speaking of baseball as well, let's talk about
some prospect prospect league ball as the d Boys County
Bomber and the Lafayette Aviators going out in a double
header this evening down at League Stadium in dou Boys County,
Lafayette getting the best of the Bombers in the first

(05:10):
game two nothing, but the Bombers getting them back in
the second game three to two. On the calf of it,
of course, on WYTZ is the one and only Chris Norton. Chris,
take us through the evening. I certainly a long one.

Speaker 6 (05:21):
For you, Yeah, and you know what, it's been twenty
eight innings of baseball in two days. The Bombers have
performed pretty well, though three out of their last four
have been wins. Lafaiete appropriately enough that I'm talking to
you tonight because on the other side, it was Chase
Wagner that will be in addition to ball State University,
and he pitched a dime six innings of shut down baseball,

(05:43):
shut out the Bombers the majority of that seven inning contest,
just two hits, allowed strike out a handful and really
kept the Bombers at bait. That's why you saw that
two score line. Only three hits in those seven innings
for du Boys County. So coming up with the first
one of the night, it was the Aviators. Nice to
have that in st rivalry, and it was the Bombers
that found a way to even things up and Kurt

(06:05):
they did it with the local guys at Huntingberg's League Stadium,
home of the South Ridge Raiders and the Bombers, who's
a pair of former Huntingburg Raiders. Ethan Bell on the
hill looked a little shaky at times. He's been fairly
dominant on the season, gave up two runs, five plus innings,
and then you had former teammate now University of monta

(06:25):
Velo and that would be Hudson Allen, and he brings
in the winning ron three to two. Fun night for
the Bombers. A lot of atmosphere, really good home crowd
here near the end of the regular season.

Speaker 5 (06:38):
Zee talking about the d Boys County Bombers here on
Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk. And so obviously now you
guys are going to Lafayette here tomorrow and then back
at League Stadium against Jackson on Sunday. So take us
through these next couple of games. What do the Bombers
need to do to at least keep themselves in a
good spot going forward.

Speaker 6 (06:59):
You know, as it they've got a two and a
half game lead for second place in the division, which
with Tara HOAt winning the first and presumably they've got
a solid lead in the second half, they'll host that
first round playoff series. So really it's a fight per second.
We saw a normal lose game one tonight against Oe Fallon,
who's got a Prospect League record seventeen wins in a row.

(07:19):
That old record was fourteen. Last I saw it was
tied that's been a little bit of ghost We'll see
how they do a chance to gain additional ground. Regular
season ends a week from yesterday, So at this point
of course, you want to wrap up the home slate
on Sunday, their final regular season game at home, with
a win. You win one of those two come out

(07:40):
of the Thursday, Friday Saturday set.

Speaker 7 (07:42):
Four and two.

Speaker 6 (07:42):
You're feeling pretty good about next week a solid lead. Rather,
so you pick up a win at some point tomorrow
or the next day. I think that's what they've got
to do.

Speaker 5 (07:53):
Be sure to follow Chris Norton on x or Twitter
or twitters, whatever you want to call it, Chris Norton Radio,
because this is something that was quite surprising, and I
know exactly, I know you know what I'm about to
ask you about here, Chris. You had a surprise color
commentator in the form of a is, if I'm reading
this correctly, an emotional support python.

Speaker 6 (08:16):
Yeah, so that was that was the theme night, and
I think they tried it one once before never really
caught on. So this time they brought some friends over
from Animal Tales. You know, they do kids parties, they
do events, so that kind of got the ball and
a pun intended because it was a ball. Python got
the ball rolling and I didn't realize Kurt, and how

(08:36):
many people own snakes and do boys counting animal tales?
They were packed up by the second inning of that
second game of the devilheader. Roger Sucky, my broadcast partner,
and I look down in the sixth inning of game two.
There are pythons still on people's shoulders walking around the stadium.
So you know it was fun. I can now say
that I've called a baseball game while holding a python,

(08:58):
and the handlers were more than nice, and it was
it's fun experience.

Speaker 5 (09:03):
Now you've literally done everything in broadcasting, my friend.

Speaker 6 (09:07):
I we'll find something new. The Bombers keep me on
my codes. I'm sure they're cicking up something.

Speaker 5 (09:12):
Definitely do Boys. County Bombers split a doubleheader this evening
with the pythons in attendance as well. Final score. In
game one, the Lafayette Aviators beat the Bombers too nothing,
but in the second game it is a three to
two victory for the Bombers over the Aviators. Chris Norton,
always a pleasure talking with you, my friend, and best
of luck for the rest of the season.

Speaker 6 (09:32):
Thanks Kurt, we'll talk soon.

Speaker 5 (09:34):
Coming up more racing talk. It's been the dominant subject
as you would expect here in the state of Indiana.
It is Brickyard weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. But
we will go ahead and shift gears no pun intended
to IndyCar. Mark James will be joining us here from
the IndyCar Radio Network to break down the action that
will be happening out on the West Coast for the

(09:57):
Grand Prix of Monterey at Laguna Seka. So stick with
us on that and much more to get to right
here on network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
How my name is Nathaniel Finch.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
I have score board updates for you every fifteen minutes
here on Indiana Sports Talk. Let's start with the action
in Indianapolis in NASCAR tonight the Truck Series. Despite the
rain early in the afternoon, they get it done at
the Indianapolis Raceway Park in Brownsburg, and you're a winner,

(10:27):
Lane Riggs, who led one hundred and sixty of the
two hundred laps today.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
Tomorrow Saturday. Kurt Darling knows this.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
He will be leading the coverage on our flagship ninety
three five and one oh seven five the fan the
penns Oil two point fifty at four point thirty in
the afternoon. Of course, we will have qualifying for both
that Xfinity race and the Cup race before then this
from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Yes, the big iconic oval.
They'll be racing there tomorrow and then the Brickyard four

(10:56):
hundred on Sunday two o'clock eastern. One of the drivers
trying to get his first ever win there is from Indiana.
It's Chase Briscoe from Mitchell.

Speaker 7 (11:04):
Be super super special. I mean, there'd be you know,
nothing like it for me just from a personal standpoint,
and to win this race. I've never really thought about
winning a race before, but it was just, you know,
kind of like imagining what it would be like to
win here, and yeah, just got goosebumpslers I was driving
down the road thinking about it. Yeah, hopefully he can
do it. It would be so special to me to
be able to win here and do it in the
Brickyard four hundred.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
It was Kyle Larson who won the race last year.
All right, let's talk about the Indianapolis Colts and it
is Anthony Richardson day one of training camp earlier this week.
He's now practiced three times.

Speaker 4 (11:37):
It was good man. When they told me I couldn't
throw for a few weeks, definitely hit me hard because
you know, we were just getting in the grooves, just
getting started. You know, I felt like I was making progress,
you know, getting ready to work with the team. But
just being out here day one. You know, it's always
the sider, you know, knocking off the russ and.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
That's Nathaniel Finch.

Speaker 5 (12:01):
Rolling right along here on Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk
Kirk Darling and for coach Bob Lovel this week we're
getting closer and closer to win. Bob will be back
here in the big chair, but we're keeping it nice
and warm for him while he enjoys his vacation. Of course,
someone who has certainly enjoyed a busy summer throughout this
twenty twenty five has been Mark James of the IndyCar

(12:21):
Radio Network. He joins us as we get set for
a busy week of racing. Of course, here we have
the Brickyard four hundred at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but
we do not find Mark here in Indianapolis. He is
all the way out on the West Coast covering the
Grand Prix of Moderay Out at Laguna Seca. Mark, thanks
so much for joining us here this evening. A busy

(12:42):
weekend of racing all around as well, and we were
talking about that before we went on the air. It's
a pretty hectic weekend for all of you at the
IMS Radio Network.

Speaker 8 (12:50):
Yeah, you know, and over the past couple of years
we kind of have blended all of our NASCAR and
IndyCar families in time. Is that more evident than this
weekend where we will actually, you know, Jay Querry and
I and Alex Wolf and some of the folks that
we use when we go to the West Coast like
Jonathan grace In a long time voice of the San

(13:12):
Jose Sharks, Dan Rowsanowski and DJ Clark and of course
Davey Hamilton will handle things on the IndyCar side, but
Nick Yelman Michael Young from IMS Radio will be part
of that broadcast and Brand and Nick will handle the
anchoring duties, and then we'll have folks like Chris Welner
and Alex Hayden from Motor Racing Network, Pat Patterson from

(13:36):
PRN we'll be in a turn as well, and a
couple of us. Jason Toy I think is going to
join us and and Brett mcmillas. So yeah, it's it's
kind of a blended family, if you will, from PRN,
MRN and IMS Radio. And my apologies if I left
any of that talented crew out, but we're excited to

(13:58):
have those folks with us. And you know, the last
couple of years, think I have been lucky enough to
do some shows for pr A matter of fact, I'll
go to Hampshire with them in September that the role
will again at Charlotte and so you know, a lot
of folks like to play us against them in terms
of the mentality, but I've never thought that way, and
those folks have never thought that way. And we have

(14:18):
a hefty amount of respect for one another and support
one another and work with one another one if we get.

Speaker 5 (14:24):
The opportunity to certainly an all star cast of racing
broadcasters assembled for this weekend, Mark James with us from
the IndyCar Radio Network getting said for the Grand Prix
of Monterey at Laguna Seca and so talking about that
race in particular, Mark, only four races remain in the
IndyCar season, which means we are theoretically getting down to
crunch time. But with the season that Alex Polo has had,

(14:48):
many are calling the championship basically a foregone conclusion at
this point. But you had a result like you had
last week at Toronto, Polo finishing twelve Poto Award getting
the win, he narrows that championship gap, but still a
long deficit to overcome four ward. But the math is
still there in case something catastrophic happens with Alex Polo.

(15:10):
So to that end, Mark, what would you say the
mindset is for Alex Polo coming into this particular race
this weekend.

Speaker 8 (15:16):
Well, he's a defending race winner, and we go to Portland,
which is the track. Obviously he's dead very very well.
And you know, I think obviously he could check mobile
wins off his hfest list with the big one of
course back in May. But it's just been an amazing season.
It quite frankly, I'm very surprised that anyone who predicted this,

(15:40):
I don't think they're being honest with themselves. I mean,
this series is so incredibly competitive, and typically you think
that every one of the so evenly matched. I mean,
when we look at at practice sheets occurred. I mean
by large, you know, twenty cars are separated by half
a second or less, and while certainly Lady Luckas smiled

(16:05):
upon them at opportune times, I think a lot of
credit has to not only be given to Alex Pelow,
but also Barry Wantser, who calls a race strategy for him,
because he is very rarely missed on that strategy and
it has benefited Alex Pollow more than it has harmed him.
And unfortunately, you're in that verified air in which in

(16:25):
order for you to catch him, not only does you
know Poddell have to continue to win races, but you've
got to continue to rely on Alex Plow to finish
somewhere between twelve and twentieth, and quite frankly, given his history,
I would like those odds if I were an award,
But right now it's just simply about winning races for
everyone else. In some asis, people may be driving for

(16:47):
their futures, and that's when maybe, you know, the risk
factor may go up a little bit in their minds
that they take a few more chances that they otherwise
wouldn't take. But while some appreciate the parody, do I
I also appreciate the fact that I've had a front
row seat for an incredible season, in a history making

(17:07):
season my avias below. In many many.

Speaker 5 (17:10):
Ways, Mark Laguna Seka is a unique track in and
of itself. You've been covering the series for quite a while,
so you pretty much know it in and out. So
that being said, what are some of the tendencies, the nuances,
or even maybe some of the different strategies we can
expect from Sunday.

Speaker 8 (17:25):
I mean, it's a typical road course in which you know,
there's a tremendous amount of elevation changes and of course
the iconic corkscrew, which is a challenge for the teams
and the drivers. I think because of the terrain. As
the race progresses and the tires start to degrade, there's
a lot of places where they push the ragged edge

(17:45):
and they throw a lot of dirt and dust up
onto the racetrack with some of the offs that they're
kind of forced into by pushing the boundaries off some
of the turns that carry a high commitment. And then
you know, you combine that with the fact that those
tires dead can create marbles. With that rubber starts feeling off,
and you know, I think after you get to that
first in, I mean, it's anybody's guests as to how

(18:08):
it's gonna go. It's very, very challenging, and we've been
put on good shows are each and every year. It's
an iconic venue.

Speaker 1 (18:16):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (18:17):
There's a new ownership group that's overseeing it. Congratulations to
Java House who Java House, who's part of the the
ownership group of ECR formerly known as en Carpenter Racing.
It's down over as the Java House Grand Prix of Monterey.

Speaker 6 (18:31):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (18:31):
They've stepped up there, involved in and they'll have tremendous
activation there throughout the course of the weekend. You know,
they've they've made some improvements to the venue. There's a
lot of great sitelines for fans, and you know, obviously
it's iconic venue with you know, the famous past that's
that already made through the Courts Group. But I know
that that's what a lot of the focus is on.

(18:52):
And you see that video a lot on social media.
But there's been a lot of memorable races there and
we have every reason to believe that this weekend will
be one as well.

Speaker 5 (19:00):
A few more minutes with Mark James from the IndyCar
Radio Network here on Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk, getting
said for IndyCar Racing out at Laguna Seka this Sunday,
and Mark, you mentioned it earlier that there are several
drivers that may be feeling a little bit of heat
as far as what their future holds for next season. So,
keeping with that line of conversation, who would you say

(19:21):
is on the hottest seat going into twenty twenty six
as teams start looking for drivers for next year.

Speaker 8 (19:27):
Well, you know a lot of times they don't necessarily
make the length of the contracts of public. But I mean,
I don't think it's any secret that will Power is
in the final year of his deal with Penske. There
have been some some prumblings that will maybe get gets
one more with them, and then that rival belong to
David Belucas, and it's all connected to that technical alliance

(19:47):
that aj Foyd has with with Team Penske. Things have
through no fault of his own, things have just not
gone well from Marcus Ericson and Ed Reddy. And I
don't think against Marcus's fault, I don't know that it's
a team fault. And I mean, Kurt, you've covered sports
long enough to know that sometimes guys make a move
thinking it's the right move and it just doesn't work

(20:09):
out for them and they have to move on to
that maybe what their thought process is because of results,
and you never know where things stand with those teams
that are, you know, always in search of money, like Cocos,
Hollinger and dale Cloyd, although I don't know why Dale
Cloyd would would want to move on from Rita's VK
with the year that he has had, unless, of course

(20:29):
it's a one year deal and Ritas gets an attractive
offer from from another race team like an Andretti Goebel.
I don't know that we'll see the kind of movement
that we've seen over the past couple of years. I
do think a big Domino would be will power it.
For whatever the reason, he's not back with Penske. That
could create some significant shuffling which leads to several drivers

(20:51):
changing seats before we get to twenty twenty six.

Speaker 5 (20:54):
No doubt about it. Mark James from the IndyCar Radio
Network with us Mark, I'm up against it, but thank
you so much for taking some time to preview the
race this Sunday. Always a pleasure talking with you, my friend.

Speaker 8 (21:05):
I appreciate Dad, and I will say this, I always
enjoy you guys throughout the summer. But when coach lovel
gets back of a saddle that means its high school
football season, then all is right with the world.

Speaker 5 (21:14):
I couldn't have said it better myself. Mark James from
the IndyCar Radio Network. There he goes as he gets
set to call the Grand Prix of Modterey out at
Laguna Seca in California. Coming up, we keep the racing
discussion going, but of a NASCAR sense, Austin Sindrix set
to join us here next on Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
It's the one time a year that the NASCAR series
both the Xfinity Cup Series in the truck Series. He had
two Indianapolis and for this one driver who won the
Brickyard four hundred last year. Of course, by the way,
I'm Nathaniel Fincher Scoreboard up date. Kyle Larson wanted last
year the Brickyard four hundred, of course, and a guy
who's spent the month of May the last two years

(21:56):
here racing in the Indianapolis five hundred. This is what
he had to say about the hollowed grounds of the IMS.

Speaker 8 (22:03):
Now.

Speaker 9 (22:03):
It's just always good to come back to this beautiful
facility with so much history, and especially coming back after
winning the Brickyard four hundred last year, so.

Speaker 2 (22:11):
Hopefully we can do the same this year.

Speaker 9 (22:12):
I've always felt like I have a huge fan base
when I come to in Nique because it does feel
like a second home in a lot of ways. I
definitely feel the sporting and I really enjoy it.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
The truck race was tonight, the Exfinity Race tomorrow. This
depends Oil two fifty, and then of course the big one,
the Brickyard four hundred on Sunday afternoon from the Indianapolis
Motor Speedway. Let's talk about some Major League Baseball scores.
In Chicago. It's the Cubs in the White Sox, and
just as you predicted, the White Sox win twelve to five.

(22:43):
A position player on the mound in the last two
winnings for the Cubs. Not a pretty one there. They'll
play again tomorrow as well. The Guardians, who had their
game today postponed against the Royals. It's a twin bill
in Kansas City thanks to the rain that to take
place tomorrow. The Cardinals win three to zero Cup coach
level very happy man, just a couple of weeks away
from his return to this show. Three to zero the

(23:04):
Cardinals blank the Padres. Good news for the Reds as well.
Seven to two winners over the Tampa Bay Rays at
home for the Red Legs. Bad news if you are
a Detroit Tigers fan. Six to two they fall to
the Blue Jays. They lose eleven of their last twelve.

Speaker 5 (23:19):
For Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk, Kurt Darling in for coach
Bob Lovell. This week, we're getting set for a full
weekend of racing. You have IndyCar out at the Grand
Prix of Modterey at Luguna Seca. But right here in
the state of Indiana, particularly in the town of Speedway,
the NASCAR Cup Series getting set for the Brickyard four
hundred at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. To help us get

(23:42):
familiar with this year's race, of course, is Austin Sindrik,
the driver of the number two team Penske Ford. Austin,
a pleasure having you on the show this evening. First off,
welcome back to Indianapolis. I know this place has a
very special place for you, so just for you what's
it like being back in the Circle City.

Speaker 10 (24:00):
Yeah, absolutely, certainly a lot to be excited for with
with briat Yard four hundred this weekend and that are
just kind of tire four must bank, so ready ready
to get going. It's it's a special place to meet
my family and and and obviously Roger and and everyone
on the team.

Speaker 5 (24:15):
You're coming off a pretty solid finish at Dover, I
believe it was a sixteenth, So coming back for this
race now in the second year on the oval, ever
since it was on the road course, what's just what's
your mindset coming into the race now at this point
in the season.

Speaker 10 (24:30):
Yeah, well, I think in some ways you kind of
look at it it's an event right at it's gradual
rate to win, a big deal, and I think there's
so many drivers in the field that want to have
this on the record may and I hope that that
we can. We can put the best foot forward in
being contender all weekend. So I've seen no reason why
we can't be. So that being said, you know, this

(24:51):
is really only five or six weeks left until we
get into the playoffs, So I think having those consistent
runs and being able to get some some well executed
events knocked out. It is going to be important for
us to kind of keep building towards towards the opportunity
we have in the playoffs. Sto Race for Championship.

Speaker 5 (25:09):
You mentioned the playoffs right there. You obviously got your
win already this season at Talladega, so you're at least
in the playoffs. But what do you have to do
at this point in the season, particularly with this race,
to more or less reinforce your position so that you're
in a really good spot once the playoffs start.

Speaker 10 (25:27):
That's why we can do that is when races man
each each race if awards points or when stages it
awards points to towards towards the playoffs. So the best
thing we can do the next five weeks is go when, when,
when races and win stage. Didn't know from a points standpoint,
but but otherwise, yeah, like like I said earlier, just
just we're finding those small details and being able to

(25:49):
execute events. You know, I think the first of a
rounds of the playoffs, it's really about not taking yourself
out of it. So and that's a lot of these
are saiding it done. But I guess I guess there.

Speaker 5 (25:58):
We're fully Kipble of Austin, Sindra joining US driver for
Team Penske here on Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk getting
set for the Brickyard four hundred coming up this Sunday. So, Austin,
with this being a special place for you here in Indianapolis,
what does your schedule look like when you come back here?
You have practice and qualifying Saturday and Sunday, and then

(26:19):
of course race day on Sunday. But for you, what
do you do while you're in Indianapolis, both on the
track as well as off it.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
Yeah, it is.

Speaker 10 (26:27):
It is a unique one on the schedule for me
because it said so much time coming to the five
hundred as a kid. So there's definitely some spots for
the I want to stop at just you know, ether
if it's restaurants or you know, things things the things
to do. But it is three full weekend. You know,
normally we only have a twenty minute practice session and
legotiated a strain and qualifying whereas you know this this

(26:47):
this weekend because it was a bit more unique, we
have we have a fifty minute full practice on Friday,
and that'll be the first day that we're we're in
town and then Saturday, you know, single let qualifying and
then race on Sunday. So in between all that, I'll
be at a disc On Tire store on on on Friday,
so and when listening, come come on out and check

(27:07):
us out. But otherwise, uh yeah, definitely definitely a lot
of a lot of the off track stuff, and we
obviously have a lot of partners that'll come to come
to the race this weekend and and make sure I
get to see all of them before before we get
the tracks on Sunday.

Speaker 5 (27:19):
You mentioned the fifty minute practice session. That's all you
get coming in to the race. So what's it been
like the last couple of seasons knowing that practice is
pretty much at a premium going into any particular race.

Speaker 10 (27:31):
Well, I think that's what'll make having the fifty minute
session this weekend more unique, is that we do get
to make changes and we don't get we don't have,
you know, will to change of inspection until until Saturday.
So yeah, I look at it a couple of different ways,
and and you know, I think anytime you can get
track time and gather data is super important. We don't
we don't necessarily gather a ton of data. Even when

(27:53):
we do get fifty minute sessions when you can kind
of make all your adjustments and have multiple sets.

Speaker 8 (27:57):
Of tires, But.

Speaker 10 (28:00):
You just as much of an opportunity to adjust yourself
out of a good race card as you do to
adjust yourself to one. And I think that's the one
thing that that that some people don't realize. You think
of everybody got practiced, would everybody make the racecar bet
or probably not? So you still have to step through
the right things and be able to make educated decisions.
And and you know, sometimes these fifty minute practices are

(28:20):
are a bit more unique to where it kind of
throws you out of the normal rhythm of what our
normal weekends are in normal schedules. So, like I said,
there's an opportunity there for sure to to to step
forward before for the race on Sundays.

Speaker 5 (28:33):
Last year, with the race being back on the oval
for the first time in a few years, did you
feel like a rookie even though could you've been in
the series for three years prior to that, but each
of those three years we were racing on the oval
at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. So did you feel like
a newbie? And learning a whole new track for the
very first time last year.

Speaker 10 (28:51):
No, honestly I did. I mean, it's it's a little
strange just to be, you know, going going that way
around or you know, it's what my heros all did,
so it's it's pretty surreal to get to go do it.
But you know, once you're in the car, it's you know,
back to back to job at hand. But the answer
your question, you know, definitely af I've learned a lot
last year, not obviously the driving part and how to

(29:15):
make a lot of time, but how this truck races
is so different than anywhere else do we go, So
you have to be ready to you know, have the
right tactics to come back to challenges that I had.

Speaker 5 (29:26):
Austin Sindric with us here on Network Indiana's Indiana Sports
Top Team Penskei NASCAR driver. So this being your second
year on the Oval, knowing what you know, now, what
are some things that you're honing in on to get
to the front because it's been a storyline year in and
year out that it's difficult to pass, especially with this
particular car. The race was entertaining last year, but still,

(29:47):
how do you maneuver your way forward, but also tackling
the treacherousness of the four corners that I am s.

Speaker 10 (29:54):
Yeah, like said, passing is the challenge. I mean even
even when you watch the five hundred and you can different.
But because the course is so long and you don't
lose a ton of time up at road, there's a
ton of options with strategy. There's not a ton of
tire wear, so there's also a ton of options with
with you know, tire strategy. So being able to, uh,
to maximize the strategy for the race, and sometimes you're

(30:16):
not fully in control of that to be able to
you know, pick and shoes when the casts come out,
but you know, even rewatching last year's race today, just
so many different strategies will happen. So being able to
stay up to date with that, understand what my priorities
are with a good fuel, whether with tires, I think
that's what makes that one so unique. Within the restarts,

(30:37):
they're super crazy. Everyone's fighting for the bottom, everyone's blocking
all the way to the bottom, So it's a it's
a much different experience, and I think.

Speaker 5 (30:44):
Most weekends is Team Penske NASCAR driver Austin Syndric with
us here on Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk. Austin, I
am up against it, but thank you so much for
joining us this evening, and best of luck to you
and your team going forward for Sunday, and it's certainly
going to be a pretty awesome event. We love it
every year, so appreciate you being a part of it.

Speaker 10 (31:04):
It's so appy, sure, John during the Racist weekend.

Speaker 5 (31:07):
Austin sindric joining us here on Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk.
Team Penske. They're having a good year at least by
comparison on the NASCAR side of things. IndyCar not so much.
They've had now twelve DNFs on the IndyCar side of things,
so terrible. Ye're in the IndyCar Series for Team Penske,
but a decent year for Team Penske on the NASCAR

(31:28):
side of things, as all three of their drivers have
wins this season, so they are firmly in the playoffs.
Want to recap a little bit as well about the
abbreviated schedule that will be happening at tomorrow at the
Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Obviously, with practice getting arraigned out today,
the Infinity Series going to go right to qualifying tomorrow
at one o'clock Eastern, so you wanna make sure that

(31:50):
you're at the track for that. If you're planning on
being out at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. You'll then get
twenty minutes of Cup Series practice, just twenty minutes. That's
it for the entirety of practice before they go qualifying
at two forty pm, and then you'll have, of course
the post qualifying crowd and everything for that. The Xfinity
race going to be going off at four thirty pm

(32:12):
Eastern at the Pennzoil two point fifty there for the
under series of the NASCAR Ladder. Then of course the
Brickyard four hundred gonna go off tomorrow in the midday
as well, weather permitting. Of course, we're hoping that the
rain holds off, but two pm is the start time
for the Brickyard four hundred presented by PPG at the

(32:33):
Indianapolis Motor Speedways. So certainly lots to look forward to
with all of that. Lots of racing talk tonight, but
we'll close things out here over the next half hour
talking some baseball and a little bit of wrestling. I'll
explain coming up stick with us here for the final
twenty minutes of Network India's Indiana Sports.

Speaker 1 (32:50):
Talk, Nathaniel Finch your Network Indiana scoreboard update. The final
location in that read, how about West Lafayette low expectations
for the Perdue football team?

Speaker 2 (33:01):
Barry otom doesn't care. Most of it probably is.

Speaker 5 (33:03):
Done on the body of work from last season.

Speaker 9 (33:06):
The last time when I was a head coach.

Speaker 11 (33:08):
And we were picked last, it worked out in our
favorite pretty well, ended up in the championship game.

Speaker 1 (33:13):
That's, of course, referencing Odem's previous stop U NLV twenty
wins in two years, really turn that program around. He's
gonna try to do the same thing with the Perdue
boiler Makers football team. Just one win last year. We'll
see if they can exceed that. How about Chase Brisco
back in his home state, the Mitchell, Indiana native, the
NASCAR driver competing in the Brickyard four hundred this weekend.

Speaker 7 (33:34):
Be super super special. I mean, there'd be nothing like
it for me, just from a personal standpoint, and to
win this race. I've never really thought about winning a
race before, but it was just you know, kind of
like imagining what it would be like to win here,
and yeah, it's got goose bumslers. I was driving down
the road thinking about it. Yeah, hopefully you can do it.
It would be so special to me to be able
to win here and do it in the Brickyard four hundred.

Speaker 1 (33:55):
The Brickyard four hundred, NASCAR is one of their crown
jewels that takes place on some the Pennzoil two fifty.
That's the Infinity Race tomorrow. The Truck Race took place tonight.
Major League Baseball wins for the Reds, Cardinals, and White
Sox Cincinnati seven to two at home. The Cardinals also
at home, three to nothing over the Padres and the

(34:15):
White Sox. How about this one? Defeat the Cubs on
the South Side tonight, twelve to five the final score there.
Just like you predicted it, it went according to plan.
Not quite all right. The Tigers fall again, unfortunately, losing
eleven of their last twelve games. Now, what a skid
for what was once the best team in baseball. Six
to two they lose to the Blue Jays at home.

Speaker 5 (34:37):
Nathaniel Finch Brendan King set to join us in just
a little bit, hopefully to talk about the South Bend Cubs.
They fell tonight to the Dayton Dragons four to one.
BK kind of stuck in traffic at the moment in Dayton,
so we're going to be hopefully having him join us
mid segment here, but certainly want to touch a little
bit on the WNBA talk as well. Caitlin Clark hopefully

(35:01):
nearing a return for the Indiana fever once again. It
has certainly been a historically bad season for her in
so far as the injuries are concerned. But Indiana taking
on the Chicago Sky this Sunday at three pm, that
gonna be a highly anticipated game. At least it usually is,
because usually you get the ever so colorful rivalry between

(35:25):
Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark. But Angel Reese has also
been dealing with injuries as well, so you may have
a Caitlin Clark Angel reeseless game between Indiana and Chicago.
But you've heard talk about Indiana all throughout this week,
especially from Sophie Cunningham. She really puts it very eloquently,
and I love hearing her talk about the team. But

(35:49):
you know, she simply just says that, you know, it's
all been a lack of defense coming up here, at
least consistent defense game in and game out for the Fever,
and so they certainly had that against the Las Vegas Aces.
And the Aces are a good team, like you can't
deny them that at all. They are they are they
are a good team, but they have struggled mightily, just
like the Indiana Fever have struggled mightily this season as well.

(36:12):
So it just goes to show you that it doesn't
matter like the pieces you have, you're going to you
have to win the games. It's cliche to say.

Speaker 6 (36:21):
But you have to do it.

Speaker 5 (36:22):
That's the name of the game. But for Indiana, they're
they've been muddling around five hundred now for more than
halfway through the season. But they've got to start putting
stretches together where they're putting more wins together than losses.
That's that's an obvious statement. I get it, but you're
gonna have to learn how to do it consistently. Without
Caitlin Clark. You can try and get it going with

(36:46):
Kelsey Mitchell, who to her credit, has been carrying the
team basically on her shoulders game in in, game out,
Sophie Cunningham, Natasha Howard doing what they can as well,
even Eliah Boston. But Kelsey Mitchell has been the glue
kind of holding this team together while they've been trying
to get through this tough stretch. But they got the
win against Las Vegas, so now we've got to see

(37:08):
if they can get that win against Chicago as well.
So you can catch that game at three o'clock PM
Eastern on ABC as well as on ninety three to
five and one oh seven to five the fan locally
in Indianapolis, so we can try and see if we
can get a little bit of momentum going for the
Indiana Fever right on Q here in just a little bit,

(37:32):
Brendan King on the call here this evening of the
Dayton Dragons beating the South Bend Cubs here this evening
four to one on the road BKA. Of course, traffic,
rain delays and everything else, but nevertheless, it's just been
a bad day for any team called the Cubs here today.

Speaker 11 (37:50):
Not a good day for any Cubs related team except
for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, who one in ten innings
at Lowez. So we'll take that from an ORG perspective.

Speaker 5 (37:57):
Yeah, there you go. Then you got something to hang
your hat on. So but tell us about the game
here today BKA. Obviously Dayton getting the best of South Bend.

Speaker 11 (38:06):
It's so tough when you're on the road and you're
going through a rain delay because you know the road
teams and a clubhouse. You know, the road clubhouse is
never too glamorous, so you know it's tough when you're
sitting around for an hour and you know the starting
pitcher is ready to go and now you've got to
step back your day an hour. So you know, it's
a game where Kurt Dayton scores first for the four
straight game. First two games that worked out okay from
a Cub's perspective because they scored nine runs and six

(38:28):
runs respectively to go out and win. Last two days,
has it worked as well where the Cubs got in
early holes and they were able to weren't able to
mount comebacks. And of course when you're on the road,
you just can't get in those early deficits. You've got
to score the first run. It's amazing when you look
at the advanced metrics of you know, when the road
team scores the first run of how good of a
chance they have to go on to win the game.

(38:49):
So probably going into tomorrow, you got to find a
way to get the game's first run and get back
in this series.

Speaker 5 (38:54):
He's Brendan King on the call tonight of the South
Bend Cubs who fall to the Dayton Dragons four to one.
And here this evening on the on the road. Sorry
about the lost BK, but besta and hopefully the Cubs
can at least get some positive results for the rest
of the season.

Speaker 11 (39:08):
Kurt, thanks for hanging through the South and Cubs bus
traffic problem.

Speaker 5 (39:14):
The pleasure is all mine, my friend, Take it easy.
He's b K, Brendan King here with us. We'll close
things out here after this quick time out here in
the final ten minutes here of Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk.

Speaker 2 (39:37):
And it comes crashing down its crank it.

Speaker 8 (39:46):
Take a stand stone hands crank it.

Speaker 5 (39:51):
You know, when I was a kid and I heard
the song, whenever it would hit every Monday night watching wrestling,
I would always get super hyped. I'm now in my
early thirties and nothing has changed. It's eleven fifty five
on a Friday night, and I am absolutely hyped. But back,
but back for the final time here on Network Indiana's

(40:12):
Indiana Sports Talk. Ronzi by Indiana Donor Network, Hull Cogan
dead at the age of seventy one. Seventy one. That's
that's it. You know, growing up, you watched wrestling and
you got the choreographed violence, if you want to call
it that now, But the promos and all of the

(40:32):
storylines and everything that was involved with it, you got
caught up in it. You think of legendary names like
The Undertaker, Rick Flair, Sewn, Michaels, Triple h and many others.
But when you think of hul Cogan, you think of
wrestling's heyday, but even more so, Yeah, it was. It
was super hokey when you look back on it in retrospect.

(40:54):
His feed with Andre the Giant in the late eighties,
which culminated in that legendary WrestleMania match, is without question
one of the greatest storylines in history. But Hull Cogan
basically symbolized the beginning of what wrestling would become. It
got away from the hokey good guy versus bad guy.
It got edgy, it got creative. And that's the thing

(41:17):
about Hull Cogan during his days in WCW was one
of the greatest. He had one of the greatest heel
Turns of all Time to become Hollywood Hulkgan forming the nWo.
But still he never lost who he was. He was
Hull Cogan, the Hulkster, Hokemania running wild up in here.
He gave kids like me a hero to look up

(41:39):
to and at the same time a villain to avoid
becoming like he entertained. But he also taught a whole
generation through his art his craft of wrestling, and we're
blessed to have been able to see him do what
he did for as long as he did it. So

(42:01):
Ul Cogan a sports entertainment icon gone after seventy one
brilliant years on this earth, and it's going to be
hard to find anybody who can measure up to the
type of impact that Hull Cogan had, not just on wrestling,
but on pop culture and American culture in general. It's

(42:23):
certainly it's certainly going to be tough to move on
without him in that regard. Thanks for joining us here
tonight on Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk Again. I'm Kurt
Darling in for Coach Bob Lovel here this evening. It's
been a pleasure to fill in for him for this
past Saturday as well as tonight special thanks to Nathaniel
Finch and Ethan Patterson helping out as well. Bob Level

(42:46):
will be back sooner than you know it. High school
football is right around the corner. Thanks for joining us
tonight here on Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk
