Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back everyone.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
This is Indiana Sports Song. We'll glad you're with us.
It's brought to you by Indiana Donor Network. Coming up
this hour, we're going to talk racing in high school
football and some college football right now that we turn
it over to the busiest man you know. It's Network
Indiana's Nathaniel Finch.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Nathaniel Finch your five minute scoreboard up dat. A pleasure
to be with you, coach Lovell our producer Caleb Zuver
tonight Week one of the college football season, and boy,
it could not be happier. How about some of these
totals today, these results for the in state football teams.
Let's start with the Purdue boiler Makers thirty one to

(00:43):
zero defeating the Ball State Cardinals today from ross Aids Stadium.
Which how about the words here from Barriotam, the head coach.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
That place will be one of the toughest atmospheres in
college football when we get this still rolling, man.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
How about those words Burry Otam getting things set off
on the right foot today, thirty one to zero with
the win, three hundred and forty yards passing on today
the run game may be a little underwhelming, just ninety
three yards, but two touchdowns on the ground, two touchdowns
through the air. Everything working for the first year head coach.
What a way to start the Barry odom Era.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
What an exciting start to this season. And the way
that our kids started really offensively, defensively, just about how
we had it scripted and we're hoping to get an
opportunity for playmakers to go do some things early and
they did. I'm excited for a team to be one
to zero. Can't thank the fans enough for what it
felt like running out of Killer tunnel in ross Age Stadium.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
It was electric, thirty one to zero the boiler Makers
over the Ball State Cardinals. Also in State down in Bloomington,
the twentyeth thranked Indiana Hoosiers with a maybe underwhelming but
regardless a win twenty seven to fourteen at home over
Old Dominion. Here's head coach Kurt Signetti speaking with Don
Fisher on the radio post game.

Speaker 5 (01:57):
I'd called a pedestrian win at best. Kind of weird
things happened in the first half, but we took control
of the game and really had him at the point
where we could have just put him away and we
were unable to. And that was what was disappointing kind
of to me?

Speaker 3 (02:11):
He calls it pedestrian. Well, the offense still found a
way to get it done. Nearly five hundred yards of
total offense. And here's how it was split up. Fernando Mendoza,
the first year quarterback transferring from cal So, new to
the Hoosiers, not new to college football. Two hundred yards passing.
How about this rushing attack, Roman Hemby the transfer from

(02:31):
Rutgers one hundred and eleven yards rushing, Klon Black ninety
two yards rushing, Lee Bebe junior seventy three yards rushing.
Mendoza added thirty three yards in a touchdown total over
three hundred yards on the ground. That is what Kurt
Signetti would love to see now. Certainly not the point
total that he was hoping for, but offensively, the yards

(02:52):
production was there. Twenty seven to fourteen. The Hoosiers get
the win over Old Dominion. Let's take a look at
some scores from on the state nonpower for schools. How
about Valparaizo in Division one, sixty seven to ten, the
win over Virginia Lynchburg also FCS football, the Butler Bulldogs
thirty eight to fourteen. They lose on the road at

(03:14):
Northern Iowa. Take a look at some of the scores
right now, some of the big matchups. How about LSU
and Clemson from Death Valley, Well, the one in Clemson,
obviously they both call their home that Clempson currently trailing,
but with the ball seventeen to ten, four minutes left
LSU with the seven point lead. It was a tight
one in Columbus. Today, Texas, the number one ranked team

(03:36):
in the preseason, pulled downed arch Manning, unable to get
a touchdown pass in any sort of score until the
fourth quarter, fourteen to seven. The final their Ohio state,
with the win likely going to be either ranked number
one or number two in that one. How about the
big Top ten matchup coming tomorrow Notre Dame and Miami,

(03:56):
This one from the U in South Florida. That will
be huge Tomorrow night, seven thirty Eastern. Excited to see
how that one pans out. I know it's a Saturday,
but we do have a little bit of high school football.
The big game tonight, Andrean defeating Fort Wayne Bishop Lewers
thirteen to zero. That one is huge. The fighting fifty
nine Ers hands the preseason number one. It's second straight

(04:18):
loss to start the season. Elsewhere Newcastle over Jay County
thirty five to zero, Bowman Academy twenty eight, Calumt Christian sixteen.
And then finally Rochester, a team from Illinois comes in
and defeats Gibson Southern forty two to twenty one. That's
the final. There plenty more over the next hour. I
got scores from many different sports. Nathaniel Finch, Welcome back everyone.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
This is Indiana Sportsuck. Nathaniel Finch. Do a great job
on the school roupdates. Hello Nathaniel.

Speaker 6 (04:49):
You're catching Nathaniel at the wrong time.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Coach there he is right here.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Well, no, he's got to look. The guy works as
much as he does. He deserves a break. How you
doing tonight?

Speaker 3 (04:59):
Great? Just putting out some fires here across the hallway
and we're on them.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
I miss those days. So you've had a busy weekend.
You had a game last night, you had Franklin uh
In Cubs high school game last night. You've got the
show tonight. You're a busy man.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
Always, and you know, anything that involves talking to you,
it means it's a good a good type of busy.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
You're rehired. So a lot of reaction obviously to the
IU game. We haven't talked a lot about Purdue. Purdue
fans have been waiting for something to get excited about.
I think they have their chance right now.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
I'll tell you what. It's only one week, so we're
not going to overreact. But it just looks like a
completely different team from last year, already matching it's win
total from a year ago. You blow up ball State,
which we're big Mikeyromovich fans here. We love the Cardinals,
so you hate to see that. You know, I said
a couple of times, this is not the litmus test
for the Cardinals. They will play better, especially once we
get in the MAC play. But how about that thirty

(06:03):
one to zero, a statement win at home in Barry
Odam's first game. And for the Hoosiers, I mean, you
still get to win, certainly, you know you weren't sweating
too much in the second half twenty seven to fourteen.
But it's just not what we saw last year. They
blew out these teams in their first not few non
conference games. I'm excited to see kind of how this team,
you can't say bounce back because they won, but just

(06:25):
how they perform maybe a little differently next week.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
I think one Oftentimes the measure of a team is
being able to win games. You should win, you know,
And always I would always stress to my players I
was a little different. Look, we don't get style points
in this. The idea is to come back with a W.
Yeah you want to play well. Yeah you don't want

(06:49):
to you want to look better than you might have looked,
But you got to do W. That's the key. And
you know I always, you know, I say this over
and over and over, and people think, I'm sure probably
going not this speech again. It's hard to win, Okay,
it is extremely hard to win. If you don't think

(07:11):
it's hard to win, get yourself a team and try
it and try to see how that works out. It's
not easy to do whatever the level, because we always forget, Oh,
those other guys are trying to win just as much
as you are, and they have really good coaches and
really good players, and so you know, winning's hard. So

(07:34):
when you get them, you need to savor them because
they're often hard to come by.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
And I'll tell you what you and I have the media.
I mean, yeah, we're gonna sit here and talk about
all they should have won by more. They should have,
but you're right. All that matters is that the Hoosiers,
the Indiana Hoosiers, are one and oh right now, and
they go into next week with the win under their belt.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
I don't gamble, I don't, I don't. I don't wager
on anything. I got in the habit of doing when
I worked at the Horizon League office and when I
was coaching. You know, you're trying to set in an
example and those kinds of things. But I marvel at
the how close the folks in Vegas are in terms

(08:12):
of setting establishing a betting line. And while I think
gambling on sports not something I do and not something
unnecessarily condone when the whole world does it, but they're
unbelievably close in terms of how they sit the line.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
Yeah, tonight the line was twenty three and a half,
so they thought, you know, you would win by three
touchdowns in a field goal, if not more. And I
mean it just goes to show it's, yes, you're always
going to find something if you're Kurt Signetti to just
just try to motivate the team. They're gonna say, yeah,
you got the win. But come on, everyone thought we
should have won by twenty four and look at what
the score was. You guys can do better. He's going

(08:51):
to be really critical of the offense. But like John
Eric said when he called in, you have five hundred
yards of total offense. Yeah, three hundred rushing yards. You
would think you're gonna be happy with that result.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
See, I mean, let that sink in. You're thinking about
he calls it a pedestrian win, and they have five
hundred plus yards in total offense and nothing pedestrian about that.
Irrespective of who you're playing, that's an impressive number today.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
Yes, certainly, and you just wonder why maybe the points
didn't quite go their way. There were you know a
few different plays at the goal line they wish they
would have had been just kind of and Signetti talked
about it. You heard the bite earlier. Just a weird
first half. So you know, you only score seventeen points
in that first half, You barely score a touchdown in
the first quarter. It was just weird. I don't think
that you know, this score is really indicative of what

(09:40):
we're going to see from the move forward.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
Well, they have kinnessas state. Next week, Purdue is playing
Southern Illinois and then everybody else. So next Saturday is
when everybody's playing. Everybody gets in action. You're any I
even though Marion and you Indy played on Thursday.

Speaker 1 (10:04):
Oh yeah, they did true minus games.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
So a lot of basket excuse me, a lot of
football coming up. Full schedule next week when we come back,
I'm gonna spend time with Mark James talking about IndyCar
racing from Nashville. This is Indiana Sports Talk.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
Hey, it's Nathaniel Finch with your network Indiana Scoreboard Update.
Last time you heard my voice, Well, Coach Lovell and
I were talking about the IU Hoosiers twenty seven to
fourteen win tonight, and here is what we were referencing
Head coach Kurt Signetti after the game on lear Field,
talking on the IU radio network.

Speaker 5 (10:41):
I'd called a pedestrian win at best. A lot of
kind of weird things happened in first half, but we
took control of the game and really had him at
the point where we could have just put him away
and we were unable to. And that was what was
disappointing kind of to me.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
And like Signetti said, just kind of a weird first tap,
but you still get the big win twenty seven to
fourteen there against Old Dominion. This one was at home
for the Hoosiers. A good enough start to the non
conference schedule to the season. Here week one of the
college football season. That wasn't the only game today, No, no, no,
a full slate. Let's talk about the Purdue boiler Makers

(11:17):
thirty one to zero winners over the Ball State Cardinals today.
Scored thirty seconds in and just kept the onslaught going.
Ryan Brown the quarterback over three hundred yards, passing two
touchdowns through the air, one touchdown on the ground. Devin
maccabee also adding a rushing touchdown as well. It was
a fun one for the boiler Makers today. In high

(11:37):
school football, how about the big one today? I know
it's Saturday, we still have a few games. We had
four this afternoon, Andrean defeating Fort Wayne Bishop Lewis. And
how about the win here for the Fighting fifty nine ers.
Andrean wins thirteen to zero today in hands the previously
ranked number one Lowers team at second loss to the season. Boy,
that one was big. Newcastle thirty five j County zero. Rochester,

(12:01):
a team from Illinois, wins forty two to twenty one
against Gibson Southern and finally Bowman Academy over call him
at Christian twenty eight to sixteen.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
Nathaniel Finch, Welcome back, everybody. I'm Bob Lovel.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
This is Indiana Sports Talk IndyCar wrapping it up down
in Nashville in the Porgetta Portchetta Bourbon matchup, a great,
great venue, tremendous racing. It is Alex Pelow's day. He
has the wrapped up the points standings, but Poto Award

(12:37):
claims this first poll at Nashville with me to talk
about all that plus more, the man himself, the star
of the IndyCar Series, the voice of the NTT IndyCar Series,
Mark James, Hall of Famer, by the way, Mark James, Hello, Mark.

Speaker 7 (12:53):
Hi coach, how are you. We're about ready to wrap
up another exciting season in the NTT IndyCar Series.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
Hey, listen, when you and I were we're talking back,
you know five hundred. Actually we're talking about the Plow
in the great start he had at the season. If
you think back, he dominates early and you're talking about
if he stays on course like this, he's going to
wrap the series up early. And that's exactly what's happened.

Speaker 7 (13:18):
Yeah, you know, it's something that I don't think anyone expected.
You know, I'll tell you what though. I mean, not
only is he just very fast, but he's so very
very smart and he and his race strategist, Bary Wantser.
Bary Wantser's been with Chip Ganassi Racing for a long
time and has been part of I think sixteen of
their seventeen championships as a team, and I mean that's

(13:41):
just a combination that you know what it was like
when he had that really good point guard that you
could rely on and you guys were on the same
page and didn't sync. And that's kind of what I
like this too. A quarterback with an offensive coordinator he's
in sync with and they made a lot of right
calls this year and he's had a lot of luck.
But you also know, the harder you work, the lucky
you get. And I think that describes Ali Kabeloberry wants

(14:02):
during Gassi Racing with the with the almost history making
season they put together.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
Yeah, it has been a history making season. It's been
It's been a lot of fun. In addition to obviously
the final races something there's still some things going on.
There still a lot of reasons for drivers aside from
their competitiveness and it's their job, but there are still
some things to be determined standing wise, your respective of
the fact that Flow has wrapped it up.

Speaker 7 (14:30):
Yeah, I think in most years, were it not for
the season that he's had, we'd be talking about three
or four drivers like Christian Ludgarn and Kyle Kirkwood who
has three wins this year, potowall Ward who's already won
a race. We'd be talking about some of those guys
slugging it out for a championship going down to the
last race. So the focus becomes, I think, gaining some

(14:51):
momentum in the season finale to feel good about where
you are going into the postseason. Then you want to
do so top ten in points. That seems to be
a big year in and year out, and understandably so.
But quite frankly, nobody knows where will Power is going
to be this time next year. They're supposed to make
that decision very very soon, and a lot of people
have speculated that if he does not return to Team

(15:13):
Piskey that a lot of dominoes could fall, and so
a lot of those things are being talked about behind
the scenes, and as you well know, when drivers are
driving for their professional futures, they're going to lock the
jaw just a little bit tighter. And so I think
that's another one of the many storylines that could make
for a compelling race tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
Well, also, you know this is a track that it's
a concrete track, as you told me earlier in a discussion,
which is it's an interesting venue, and so you have
those factors that work in this race coming up tomorrow.

Speaker 7 (15:47):
Yeah, there's a noticeable bump and turn four and if
the right height and the springs are setting just right,
you can glide right over it. But if not, you're
going to lose the race car and it's going to
cost you your race. And that's something that some teams
still haven't figured out. Plus, you're familiar that when we're
on road and the street courses, there's a harder primary

(16:09):
compound and there's a softer alternate compound. Well, for the
second year in a row, they've decided to institute that
for an oval race. So there's a primary compound and
there's a softer alternate compound for tomorrow's race, and they
are required to run two sets of alternate tires a
minimum of two laps or be penalized that they have

(16:29):
to run the primaries at least two laps. So that's
going to figure into the strategy. And it's been tough
for them to figure out the tire where because of
the difference in the tireware between an asphalt and a
concrete track.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
You like this venue, though, don't you?

Speaker 6 (16:44):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (16:44):
I do?

Speaker 7 (16:44):
You know? I i'ming around log enough that I was
here for a number of years when the NTT IndyCar
Series raced here back in the early two thousands, And
then of course the race went away and the venue
was closed for a while. And then thanks to Scott
and Portschetta and his team, they brought racing back to Nashville.
But it was on the downtown streets and went across

(17:05):
the Korean Veterans Bridge. And because of the fact that
Tennessee Titans have a new home under construction which is
going to be an unbelievable stadium, we drove by it.
It needed a new home and so they moved into
Nashville Super Speedway. That place was revived by Speedway Motorsports,
you know our friends for Performance Racing Network or under

(17:27):
that particular banner, and I got to give them credit.
When I came back here last year, the place looked
like it did what it was when it was brand
new and first open, and it is a fabulous facility,
is very fan friendly. There's not a bad seat the
house and from the bottom road to the top row
you can see all the way around the race track.
There's a lot of entertainment plan for tomorrow. The ultra

(17:49):
popular band the All American Rejects will perform concered prior
to prior to the race, and a fan zone with
a lot of autograph opportunities and really a neat venue
should provide for an interesting race day.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
I thought you were talking about you and me with
the All American Rejects.

Speaker 7 (18:05):
That's too easy, and that's me. That's a softball, that's what.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
Ye lobbing them underhand. Now, all right, what's your schedule
on the air tomorrow?

Speaker 7 (18:13):
Yeah, we'll we'll get started around ten thirty five or so.
Nick Yeomen will be in the anchors chair and I'll
call the action high top Turn one for Indy next
by Firestone and Dennis Hauger. Outstanding rookie Fred Reddy Global
has already wrapped up that championship, but again those primers
certainly driving for their professional futures. And then you could

(18:35):
join us at one o'clock local time two pm Eastern
on all the usual atletes for complete coverage of the
season finale for the NTT IndyCar Series.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
The best at what he does. Mark James, the voice
of the Indianapolis five hundred and the NTT IndyCar Series
racing in Nashville tomorrow, Mark, thanks for doing this, Get
some sleep, have a fun day tomorrow.

Speaker 6 (18:59):
Coach's going to be.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
Thanks a lot, Mark, Mark James. The NTT IndyCar Series
in Nashville, wrapping up the season. And it's been fun,
but it's been Uh. Alex Pulow has just been dominant
and you kind of got that feeling back in May
when he had had the month that he had, so

(19:23):
great to catch up with Mark, don't forget. Uh listen
to the race tomorrow. UH have some fun with that.
And then next weekend obviously football uh NFL football begins.
It's that time of year, all right, Nathaniel Finch, what else?
What else? What are we doing tomorrow? We don't have

(19:45):
a football to watch, so what are we watching tomorrow
besides Notre Dame.

Speaker 3 (19:49):
How about Notre Dame? Is that not enough for you?

Speaker 2 (19:52):
That's a night that's a night game. So you're gonna
you're gonna make me go out and clean my pool
and mow my grass tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (19:59):
Yeah, Unfortunately, you're going to have to because the Fever
don't play until eight thirty Eastern and then of course
Notre Dame not until seven thirty as well. So hey,
how about you go sit in the pool. How about
you go enjoy one of the last couple of weekends.
It's Labor Day weekend. It's going to start getting cold soon.
Just go enjoy that pool and then you turn on
the TV watch some Notre Dame and then some Indiana
Fever later in the evening.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
That's a great idea.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
I'll meet you there. I'll come over. I'll hop in
the pool with this.

Speaker 2 (20:25):
It's fun. It'd be great, we know, I think my
for once, my wife has not decided to invite everyone
she knows to come to the pool. So but that's
that's the reason we did it, all right. So we
are getting into week number three of high school football.
Do you have a game next Friday?

Speaker 3 (20:45):
I do still kind of in the works to see
which game I have. We're shuffling some things around so well,
i'll let you know later in the week who we
hook that. But I'll have a game and it's going
to be a lot of fun.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
One third of the way through regular season, Man, I hate,
I hate.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
How about you say that coach need to quit saying that.
My goodness, I say it every year because it's just crazy.

Speaker 2 (21:06):
It goes so fast, and uh this.

Speaker 6 (21:10):
You know.

Speaker 2 (21:11):
I'm going to talk with Tanner Camp later on in
this hour filling in for Paul Condry about last night.
But I think if you're Brownsburg fans, you're pretty excited
about you won the championship year ago, and you've started
off awfully well and you took care of business with Cathedral,
kept them off the school board last night. One of

(21:31):
those ball games that we'll talk about. So plenty of
reasons to be excited about high school football all the
way through all all the classes.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
Well, how about if you're a Carmel fan, how about
what Kyle writes doing Oh no question, I mean my
good team that has not looked great the last couple
of years, and just like that, you flip a switch
you get your couch back, and man, they look good.
They look great.

Speaker 2 (21:51):
Daniel Finch, as I mentioned, busiest guy you know, coming
up with another school board update, and we got much
more to go on Network Indienda as Indiana Sports Talk.

Speaker 3 (22:02):
Hey, it's Nathaniel Finch with your penultimate scoreboard update. Let's
start with baseball. We've talked plenty of football tonight week
one of the college football season, but in Major League
Baseball tonight, coach, your Cardinals get the win in Cincinnati
Great American Ballpark against the Reds four to two. That one,
so two straight at GABP for the Cardinals. Also tonight

(22:25):
across the Midwest, these all final. The White Sox put
up a great fight against the Yankees tonight on the
South Side, but through eleven innings, the Yankees get the
five to three win. They're the Guardians successful at home
four to three winners over the Mariners. The Tigers cannot
get it done in Kansas City, three to one they
fall to the Royals, and then finally the Chicago Cubs

(22:48):
four to three against the Rockies. The win at Corsefield
and Colorado. On the reason I emphasized Chicago because the
South Bend Cubs put up a big fight tonight as well.
They unfortunately for our friend Brendon King fall and ten innings.
This is HYA Baseball five to four. The Peoria Chiefs
get the win at home over the South Bend Cups.
Man that was a close one, unable to finish shit.

(23:10):
Also Minor league baseball just a few blocks away from
our Monument Circle Studios actually against Buffalo. It is the
Indianapolis Indians with the two to one win at Victory Field,
and then the Fort Wayne ten Caps wrap it up
with Minor league baseball across the state of Indiana, unfortunately
falling tonight five to two the final there against the
Dayton Dragons. High school football, how about andrean thirteen to

(23:34):
zero win over the previously top ranked Fort Wayne Bishop Lewers. Now,
unfortunately Lewis has lost two straight to start this season.
Newcastle thirty five to zero over Jay County and Boma
Academy twenty eight to sixteen over Calumet Christian Welcome back.

Speaker 2 (23:51):
Everyone, This is Indiana Sports Talk for USU buy Indiana
Donor Network. Busy Night of Football last night, Great Night
of Football last night. And normally Paul Condry joins me
on this night reviewing what happened on Friday night. But
tonight we have sit in the pinch hitter and he
is great at what he does. Is Tanner Camp from

(24:12):
the Regional radio Sports Network, And Tanner, thank you so
much for stepping in when you were going through the
scores last night or even going back today looking at him.
What games surprised you, either in terms of who won,
who lost, margin of victory, or what were some of
your initial takeaways from last night's action.

Speaker 8 (24:34):
Well, of course, Bob, and I've always great to be
with you here. I would obviously be remiss if I
didn't mention my game, which was Penn High School getting.

Speaker 6 (24:41):
Revenge from last year.

Speaker 8 (24:42):
They defeated their longtime rival to michillwalka Caveman twenty eighth
right too back of home at free Field, Bobby, was
a crowd of nearly eight thousand people there.

Speaker 6 (24:51):
It's always one of the most important games on Penn
and Mission Walker schedule. And as I mentioned to you
the other night, Pen was down sixteen zero at.

Speaker 8 (24:59):
The end of the first quarter and everyone really thought,
all right, Mitchell Walker is about to make work with Pen.

Speaker 6 (25:04):
But I'll tell you what Pete reared in his second year.
This is by far his best winning so Pen comes
back and wins.

Speaker 8 (25:10):
At twenty eight to twenty two with some great performances.
So that's one game that definitely stuck out to me.
But taking a look at some of the other games,
you know, I look all across up and down. Obviously
East Noble with a great win Ober Snyder twenty.

Speaker 6 (25:23):
Nine to seven.

Speaker 8 (25:24):
I mean the Rights and second year head coach Alex Stewart.
I mean he continues that great legacy that guys like
Tim Abel and Luke Gomsts have built for that night's program.
So I'm really impressed with that win. You know, looking
up and down, I mean Kevin Wright over at Carmel Man,
he brought some life into that great Bounce program. I mean,
you don't just beat Westfield thirty four to ten unless

(25:45):
you're a proven winner, and he has certainly done that
in Carmel.

Speaker 6 (25:48):
Now Out of the Blue looks.

Speaker 8 (25:50):
To be a team that could really contend in sixth
say so, great job by Kevin right up Brownsberg, John
Harr after their success year last year.

Speaker 6 (26:00):
Same thing.

Speaker 8 (26:01):
You don't just shut out Cathedral, but to do it
twenty nine zero. I mean John harp got a really
special group and so happy for him and all the accolades,
including National Coach of the Year, could have happened to
an even better person. And so Brownsburg winning against Cathedral
in that fashion certainly surprised me. And you know, I
take a look up and down the board and another
one that I think really sticks out is seeing, you know,

(26:23):
Indianapolis Huitard over handover Central forty nine to seven. I know,
hanover Central is down.

Speaker 6 (26:28):
But Rob Doyle I got so much respect for him.

Speaker 8 (26:31):
He just he always finds a way to put together
a US program.

Speaker 6 (26:35):
With high quality kids.

Speaker 8 (26:36):
And so I mean, I'm always a big fan of
the work that he's done. Knocks over Pioneer and I know,
you know this.

Speaker 6 (26:42):
Bob Miles McLoughlin, what a special night over four hundred yards.
How about this, Bob?

Speaker 8 (26:46):
He passed Jack Kaiser and the all time rushing leader
at Pioneer where Jack Kiser went.

Speaker 6 (26:52):
To school at.

Speaker 8 (26:52):
So Miles Laughlin contenuine who one of the best rushers
that this state has ever seen. Mccutching over West Loafiet.
I know McCutcheon is a little bit of a bigger school,
but West Lofiet they are always a.

Speaker 6 (27:05):
Top team in and out.

Speaker 8 (27:06):
But that's a really really nice win for Josh Draftser
and company with that thirty one to six victory over
West lafe At. I'm impressed with Northwood that fifty one
to fourteen win over New Prairie. But Nate Andrews obviously
making his down really really proud with the work that
he's put together. I love that playing field win over
Harrison West Loffiet. I'm a huge fan, and I know

(27:28):
you are of Tyler bless and so he has really
made the Blessed family proud with that seven point victory
over the Raiders.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
Well, we always like it when the alma mater wins,
so co we're aftery for Coach Blast and the Quakers,
and it's kind of fun to see. I'm glad you
you mentioned those. There were some that caught my eye.
I was a little bit I was not surprised, but
New Palestine beating Decator Central twenty eighty six, I think

(27:55):
the margin of victory caught me off guard, and Decatur
obviously trying to figure out this group and acclimate them
to that, and it just underscores how good New pal
really is.

Speaker 8 (28:07):
Well and Bobb You're absolutely right. And remember they're playing
up a class because of the success fact that right
he had and I mean Kyle Ralph what a coach.
I mean, one of the best in overall winning percentages
that this state has seen. Obviously Decatur Central, you know
they're trying to figure out what they can do, you
know without Bo Polson who got hurt in that loss
against Avon last week and so but but you mentioned
a New Palatine always a tough team in and out,

(28:29):
and to do this against a strong Decatur Central team,
and you know Kyle Enwright will figure out a way.
I think the state has proven that he is a
great up and coming coach that always finds a way
even when adversity strikes. But New Palatine get a little
too strong in regards to that night, Maconicquah beating Carrol
Flora a really good small school match. We had mcconic

(28:49):
law in our top three in the class one a
dandy doesn't and mcconicwaw beat Carol Flora, who usually runs
the table most seasons. That mcconicwlaw makes it look easy
with the forty one to twenty one victory, a game
that even though this team lost. Still I love the
opponent they played, Loyola Academy out of Illinois beating Maryville
twenty one to fourteen.

Speaker 6 (29:08):
But I love Brad Steats's approach.

Speaker 8 (29:10):
I mean he always made sure and you know, the
two coach you want to play good tough non conference
schedules because they're already in one of the toughest conferences
in the state, in the Dual Athletic Conference, but you
want to make sure you challenge yourself day in and
day out, but when it comes tournament times that you've
been battle tested in every single way possible. So even
though Maryville lost, I'm really pleased with the fact that
Brad Seats is challenging hisself and his team because they

(29:33):
know doesn't really get that much easier.

Speaker 6 (29:35):
When it comes to postseason play.

Speaker 8 (29:38):
But also just taking a look as well, I like
that win for Fort Wayne Northrop, oh the thirty one
to twenty te win against Brunnington north You know Northrop
they struggled the last couple of years, but they've got
a really talented player in your Cleating Gilford, who's heading
off to Ohio State next year. And you know, it's
just so impressive how one player can change an entire
mindset for a team.

Speaker 6 (29:59):
In North.

Speaker 8 (30:00):
They haven't won a lot, but they're already off to
a two and zero start with that New Haven win
last week and beating Huntington North, who had a great
season last year, and so that's a really nice win
for that group. And you know, taking another look around
at some of the games, I'm biased because I'm a
I'm a Jake Mott Miners fan. But East Central beating Harris,
Ohio twenty one to zero, right, so another team playing

(30:21):
up in five A because of the success factor. But
I think Jake Miners is one of the true great
up and coming coaches. East Central has always put together
a great team and put together so many great players,
and they're looking to make another deep run. Another one
that I like, Center Grove and six A over Carol
Fort Wayne thirty five twenty four.

Speaker 6 (30:40):
I mean, you and I could go on and on
about Eric Moore.

Speaker 8 (30:43):
I mean, in my opinion, one of the best coaches
that I've ever interacted with in one of the sets
that this state has ever seen. And then on the
flip side, like I talked about with Meryville, Carroll Fort Wayne.

Speaker 6 (30:52):
Since the summit Athletic Conference split into two divisions. They
challenged them.

Speaker 8 (30:56):
I'm looking who Carroll Fort Wayne's playing. They're now they
played Hamilton Southeastern and lost, but it's competitive, and then
play Center Grow. I mean Doug Dinen over at Carol
Fort Wayne has the same mindset.

Speaker 6 (31:06):
Let's play some really cool teams that have had that success.

Speaker 8 (31:09):
And I mean Center Grow. Eric Moore doesn't really get
much better than that. And so coach, I think what
we've seen is a lot of these teams playing good
non conference games so they can get themselves ready for
the postseason because come tournament time, you know, it's sometimes
it's who is playing the best football come October and
in November. So just a lot of really really great

(31:30):
games up and down. And the one that I want
to shout out, just because he's our Colts Coach of
the Week is Avon over Ben Davis. I mean, yea,
I'm so happy for Rob Gibson. I mean, to do
what I mean, you don't don't just beat Ben Davis
like Avon did thirty five to fourteen, a two and
oh start for the Oreos. And obviously Rob Gibson again
he was our Colts Coach of the week from Week

(31:50):
one after beating to cater Central thirty to twenty eight
in overtime.

Speaker 6 (31:55):
And so I'm really happy for Rob Gibbson.

Speaker 8 (31:57):
You know, he started his time down at Owen Valley,
the one to two sectionals there, took the Avon job.
They struggled for a couple of years, but finally got
them back around. And Coach, you have to go back
to twenty nineteen.

Speaker 6 (32:08):
When Avon started out too.

Speaker 8 (32:10):
And oh and that was led of course by the
one and only in legendary Mark Bleft. So Avon that
is one game that I was really impressed with. And
coach also a lot of losing streaks that were snapped.

Speaker 6 (32:20):
Attica finally snapped.

Speaker 8 (32:21):
Their long losing streaks with a forty five to sixteen
win over Try Counting. Then same with Anderson winning forty
three to eighteen over Indianapolis Washington. So, Coach week two
with a mixture of everything.

Speaker 6 (32:33):
We had surprising scores, we had.

Speaker 8 (32:36):
Small school games and losing streaks that were snapped, and
playing and simple. As conference play now really starts to
ramp up into Week three, a lot of teams that
are now starting to figure out their identity. They're trying
to figure out who their stud players are, if they
have any injuries.

Speaker 6 (32:50):
Trying to adjust. But that's what week two is all about.

Speaker 8 (32:52):
You want to really start fining tuning any details, because,
believe it or not, coach were by next week, we're
already thirty three percent of the way through the regular
and so what good football, and I think we can
expect a.

Speaker 6 (33:03):
Lot more over the course of the twenty twenty five seven.

Speaker 2 (33:06):
All right, can you hang in here through this short
break and talk to me about some of the key
matchups next week?

Speaker 6 (33:11):
In week three, it would be my delight.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
Bob outstanding. We'll come back. We'll talk more with Tanner
Camp from the regional radio Sports Network, and we just
continue to follow what's happening in high school football off
to a great start. So stay with us. We're back
after this short break on Indiana Sports Talk.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
You hear my voice one final time tonight Nathaniel Finch Network,
Indiana your scoreboard update. Let's give you all the scores
that we can get through in just under two minutes.
The Indiana Hoosiers, ranked twentieth on the preseason, pull twenty
seven to fourteen to win at home over Old Dominion.
Today maybe a little underwhelming at least according to the
head coach.

Speaker 5 (33:52):
I'd called a pedestrian win at best. A lot of
kind of weird things happened in first half, but we
took control of the game and really had him at
the point where we could have just put him away,
and we were unable to and that was what was disappointing.

Speaker 3 (34:05):
Twenty seven to fourteen. The head coaches Kurt Signetti, disappointed.
Nobody else says you get a win if you are
the Indiana Hoosiers pretty also getting a win, really getting
the Barriodamera off on the right foot thirty one to
zero at home against the Ball State Cardinals. New quarterback
Ryan Brown over three hundred yards passing two touchdowns through
the air, one touchdown on the ground, and the star

(34:28):
Devin Makabi, the running back, also has a touchdown there
as well. And FCS football across the state, the val
Perezo Beacons get a big win sixty seven to ten
against Virginia Lynchburg. Meanwhile, the Butler Bulldogs unsuccessful thirty eight
to fourteen. They fall on the road against Northern Iowa
High School football. How about Andrean defeating Fort Wayne Bishop

(34:52):
Lewers tonight a big one there against the previous top
team in three A. Now Lowres has lost to Straight
thirteen to zero. The final there ansel Over Jay County
thirty five to zero. The final Bowman Academy twenty eight
Calumed Christian sixteen and our finals score from Saturday high
school football action Rochester, A team from Illinois defeats Gibson

(35:13):
Southern forty two to twenty one. Is the final there.
Nathaniel Finch Network, Indiana.

Speaker 1 (35:19):
Welcome back everyone on Bob Lovell.

Speaker 2 (35:21):
This is Indiana's Sports Talk. We were talking with Tanner
Camp before the break from the regional radio Sports Network,
sitting in tonight for Paul Condry. All Right, as fun
as week two was, week three seems to be maybe
even better getting into conference play, some real strong rivalry
games coming up, and uh, we're one third of the way.

(35:42):
How about that? One third of the way after Friday
nights matchups through the regular season.

Speaker 6 (35:49):
Yeah, coach, And.

Speaker 8 (35:50):
This is as I kind of mentioned in you and
I talked about, this is where if conference play hasn't started,
a lot of these schools, I know, the Northern Lakes
Conference and the Northern Indiana Conference will start out their
play next week. Can coach I talked about Mishawaka and
Pen earlier, Well, you want to talk about getting easy
for Mishawaka. Well, I hope not, because now all they
have to do is get ready to go back to
Steal Stadium and host the Concord Miniman. Who Craig Taylor's group.

(36:12):
I mean, boy, oh boy, they look as strong as ever.
And keep in mind coach Taylor's not even playing on
an official field because they're making renovations to Jake Field.
So that'shally a really really great opening matchup for the
Cavemen and the minute Men next Friday. I take a
look at some of the other games throughout the States,
and I'm especially interested in you know, I work all

(36:33):
the Penn games, so obviously PEN will open up there.
Northern Indiana Conference PLAYZEL hosts with South ben Riley Wildcats
over at Freed Field. Another game that I'm really really
interested in, it's Central out of Ohio taking on Carmel.
I'm just interested to see what Kevin Wright can do
to see if he can get the Greyhound started off
to a three and oh start taking a look at

(36:53):
some of the other games. One that I'm Cincinnati Saint
Xavier out of Ohio taking on Cathedral. Obviously, Saint Xavier
one of the top.

Speaker 6 (37:01):
Teams in all of the oh over.

Speaker 8 (37:04):
At the team just or the state just to the
right of us, and then Cathedral. Stillen has seen how
Bill Peebles responds after being shut out by the Bulldogs
last night. One other one that really really sticks out
to me. I mean, I'm interested in Decatur's Central and
Wieland you.

Speaker 6 (37:19):
Know Darren Fischer.

Speaker 8 (37:20):
I know they're not off to the starts that they expected,
but it doesn't getting easier. And Decatur Central again, I
already mentioned they lost Bo Polson at least for right now,
but they are still a strong team. I got a
lot of key weapons, and I'm interested in how both
of those coaches respond Eash Central at Lawrence north Man,
oh Man talking about two great coaches, Pat Mallory for
the Wildcats and the Jake Biners for the Trojans, And

(37:42):
so I'm really looking forward to seeing.

Speaker 6 (37:44):
How those two big school teams.

Speaker 8 (37:45):
Perform next Friday night. Evansville Wrights and Jaffer. I'm really
interested to see how Corey Runson and his team perform
for next week. Fort Wayne Snyder and Lowers. You got
one of the top football powerhouses and Snyder going up
against one of the top small school power rights is
in leew or So and two great coaches and Kurt

(38:06):
Tipman and Kyle Lindsay. So we'll see how that game
plays out. And a couple other games, especially in the
Indianapolis area, Ron Colley and Shatard that has always proven.

Speaker 6 (38:15):
In day in and day out to be a top
game in the Circle City.

Speaker 8 (38:19):
So that should be a really fun one that I
think everyone is going to want to keep an eye on.
One other one that I think you should definitely be in.
Look of course, you know we got to throw some
Plainfield in there. So Plainfield's going to be at Mooreesville.
And hey, also, congratulations to Mike Yellen for sure, that's
finally achieving, you know, one of the top three winning
his coaches in this entire state, just behind Russ rat

(38:40):
Key and Bud Wright.

Speaker 6 (38:42):
And so I'm really happy for Mike Keilling.

Speaker 8 (38:44):
This team off to a nice two and oh start
with two good wins against Bloomington North and Ta Hate North.
But again they're going to be battle tested against playing Field,
and so you know that I can't do any one
of these shows without giving playing.

Speaker 6 (38:55):
Field some bluff for you. So that's one game that
everyone's gonna want to appreciate it on. That's a floy
for you.

Speaker 2 (39:02):
I've played in that Plainfield Morsel game more than once,
so I know I know.

Speaker 6 (39:08):
How that to you.

Speaker 8 (39:11):
And then so picking a look off so Wet Snowbolint
east Side, I think that should be a pretty good
small school game. I'm a I'm a big fan of
what Monti mah Horter has done over the last couple
of years. And so his team off to a two
and oh start as they'll travel over to the Butler
and Auburn area Westfield at zion Villain.

Speaker 6 (39:27):
You know, Josh Miracle a young coach.

Speaker 8 (39:29):
Now I got to get Paul Condrey some love of
former Hobart Briockie himself, and so who they respond after,
you know, taking a tough loss against Carmel right and
traveling to Zionsville. So again, a lot of games where
they're really getting started in conference play, and there are
so many of them.

Speaker 6 (39:44):
But as you mentioned with it.

Speaker 8 (39:45):
Now is the time to start making your adjustments and
adjusting to what you need to because conference play is
really important for.

Speaker 6 (39:52):
Some of these schools. I know Penn have a high
standard for that.

Speaker 8 (39:54):
I know Michellwalk and Concord out of the Northern Lake Conference.
And so we'll see how these teams. But I tell
you what week three, and one other thing that I
can tell you this, Bob, if we get weather like
we did last night for football, you will hear no
complaint from the sportscaster.

Speaker 2 (40:09):
It is a great job again by Tanner Camp, Regional
Radio Sports Network. Tanner have a great weekend.

Speaker 1 (40:14):
Thank you, come back everyone.

Speaker 2 (40:18):
Minor League baseball Tonight, Dayton beats the four win tin
Caps five to two. With me the voice of the Caps,
Mike Moss. Mike, another tough loss for the Caps tonight.

Speaker 9 (40:30):
It has been a rough week for the Tin Caps, Bob.
When you and I talked last Saturday, they had just
beaten Lake County and they came back the next day
to win again, and they were thinking, Okay, we're going
home final home series of the year. We're playing Dayton,
which at the time was in last place in the division. Well,

(40:50):
the Dragons are playing better than anybody in the Midwest League.
They've won the first five games of this series. They've
won twelve in a row. If they beat us tomorrow,
they will tire their franchise record for consecutive wins in
a season at thirteen. And they're doing everything right. They've
outscored us twenty to nine and five games. They've getting

(41:12):
some really good pitching, some timely hitting, and we're helping
out with some porous defense as well. But really, you know,
we're down to two weeks and that well, when you're
not talked. Last week, it was two weeks left in
the season. Now it's one week in a game. I
think that some of our players are maybe mentally tired.
I think they're waiting for a week and the morrow

(41:34):
to get here, to finish the year and go home.
But we always have talked about this pride factor. You're
a professional player, You're expected to give your best effort
and you've got to have a little sense of pride.
Plus you know that the big league team is going
to be watching you. You know if you don't put
out an effort, yeah, you may not get signed for

(41:56):
next year.

Speaker 2 (41:57):
That's a good point. Good but point well, so.

Speaker 9 (42:03):
The one good thing too, Bob, and we briefly touched
on it last week. They'll support here in Fort Wayne seven,
twenty one tonight. That gives us a season total of
three hundred and twenty thousand, four hundred and fifty six.
That translates into five thousand and eighty six fans a game,
third best in the league, third best in all of

(42:23):
High A. And we even outdraw twelve TRIPAA teams. And
so thanks to Fort Wayne tomorrow, because I know there's
not much time left. It's our home season finale. It
is Jackson Merrill Biblehead night. Jackson Merrill played for US
at twenty twenty three at the shortstop. Today's the centerfielder

(42:44):
for San Diego. His mom and dad, they're from the
Baltimore area. His mom and dad drove from Baltimore to
Fort Wayne. They were at the game tonight and tomorrow
they are going to help passing out bibleheads first one
thousand fans that come in.

Speaker 2 (43:05):
Yeah, Mike, I've got to run to your boy Brendan King.
But thanks so much for the call.

Speaker 9 (43:09):
Tell him I feel bad because they've lost five in
a row.

Speaker 2 (43:12):
Oh all right, that's our lead in Brendan King. Five
in a row.

Speaker 1 (43:16):
Wow, Yeah, coach, I know we're short on time.

Speaker 9 (43:20):
This week is just proof that baseball can be unforgiving
and baseball can humble you. Last week we were talking
about the South Bend Cobs making a playoff.

Speaker 7 (43:29):
Run, but heading into this week because they're gonna be
three games back at first place, coach, So I'm gonna
leave you with one thing, Just win.

Speaker 2 (43:35):
Baby, That's what we need to do. Brendan. I wish
you had more time, but I am so thrilled that
you called best of luck to the Cubs. South Bend Cubs.
Thanks so much to Caleb Zoover and Nathaniel Finish. Thanks
to our great stage around the state, to bringing the
show every Friday and Saturday night. Thanks to all of

(43:56):
you for making us the most listen to sports talk
