Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back everyone. This is Indiana Sports Talk, brought to
you by Indiana Donor Network. One more hour of exciting football,
wrapping up the ISSA football Championships. Much more to come
right now. Though he's the star of our show, he
is the foundation of the sports Talk Nation. It's Network
Indiana's Brendan King.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Coach you on the best. Great to be with you
and Caleb, and let's get right to it. The IHSAA
football State Finals are officially complete and we are going
to recap everything we saw at Lucas Oil Stadium over
the prior forty eight hours, beginning with the Friday action.
We got started with the one A state title game,
South Putnam putting away Pioneer fifty five twenty nine for
(00:45):
South Putnam's first state title since nineteen eighty six. Seven
different South Putnam players scored touchdowns. That's the most ever
in a single state championship game, and Pioneers micah Rams
took away the Mental Attitude Award. The three eight it
was Cascade topping Fort Wayne Bishop Lures twenty nine to fourteen,
first state title ever for Cascade. Their last best finish
(01:08):
to a football season was a sectional title back in
nineteen ninety two. Congratulations to Cascade, first time winners and
their quarterback Brady Trembley was the Mental Attitude Award winner.
Last night ended in Class five A with New Palestine
crushing Meriville. Thirty eight seventeen was the final. Newpal goes
back to back. Last year a four four A champ,
(01:29):
this year a five A state champion, and New Palestine
is their fifth state title win since twenty fourteen. And
also the Dragons took home the Mental Attitude Award. Abe
Walling from newpal was the winner. Congratulations to all three
of those ball clubs. As now we move into today
and what we saw from Lucas Oil Stadium. Starting bright
and early this morning with a seven and zhing final
(01:52):
Andrean shutting out Brownstown Central, a scoreless game at halftime,
a scoreless game after three quarters, Both teams missed field
goals early, both teams played spectacular defense, and after Brownstown
Central stopped Andrayan seven consecutive times inside the five yard line,
at last it was the fifty nine ers with the
game's only touchdown. I had the call for you on
(02:15):
the IHSAA Champions Radio Network in the Pistol Gore. The
handoff at the goal line, tumbling forward for a touchdown.
Andrean's on the board. Brady Stoveall with his eleventh rushing
(02:35):
touchdown of the year, and at last Andreyan at the
goal line pushes.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
One in.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Heck of a ballgame Andrayan over Brownstown Central at Lucas
Oil Stadium. Then we went to the four A State
title game in a great one with Fort Wayne Bishop
Twanger over Ron Khali thirty six to twenty nine. No
shortage of scoring in that ballgame. Jevin Redman at the
call on the IHSAA Champions Radio Network.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Ash back to.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
Pass, winds up, throws toward the end zone. Ball is
battle away and it's picked up in the end zone.
Bishop Dwinger defeats their rival Ron Colly on the final play,
thirty six to twenty nine. Four Wayne Bishop Dwinger, your
Class four RAY State champions, their sixth in program history.
Thirty six twenty nine is a final scorer here at
(03:23):
Lucas Oil Stadium.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Jevin Redman the call, and then six A we went
Brownsburg over Westfield thirty eight thirty one. The Bulldogs go
back to back. Jeff Record with the call on the
Champions Radio Network.
Speaker 5 (03:34):
Oscar fryar Will set up his own forty five takes
the snap, puts the knee down. Brownsburg fins erupt. Bulldogs
players rush on to the field and thirty eight thirty
one as your final score as Brownsburg repeats as six
s A state champions in Indiana high school.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Football Fun Day Lucas Oil Stadium. Mental Attitude Award winners
in the two A game Micah Scheffer, who's heading to
Due to play golf next year. He's the quarterback for
Brownstown Central. Big congrats to him. He won the twenty
twenty four boys basketball state finals a member of that
Braves Hoops team. The four A game, Ron Colley's quarterback
Cowen Ash the Mental Attitude Award winner, and in six
(04:14):
A it was Westfield offensive lineman Cash Ballard named the
Mental Attitude Award winner. Cash Ballard the youngest son of
Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard. Congratulations to all involved
six spectacular state championship games. Hey quickly from Palo alto
number nine Notre Names got a seven to zering lead
(04:35):
on Stanford first quarter five minutes left. Jeremiah Love the
touchdown score. I'm Brendan King.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Welcome back, everybody. I'm Bob Lovel. This is Network India
Indiana Sports. Let's talk more Pacers. Pacers beat the Bulls.
One o three, one oh one from the Indiana Pacers,
Pat Boyle and Jones Lye. Pat, thank you so much
for the call and congratulations to our Pacers. Back to wins,
hard fought win. Pascal Siakam h Durin's won at the horn.
(05:05):
Two guys hanging on in for the win. It's a
big night down a game Bridge tonight.
Speaker 6 (05:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (05:11):
You know, the Pacers have obviously been through this just
horrific rash of injuries. But Bobby, they we're seeing now,
and really, I think the last five or six games,
I mean they've had a couple of they had a
two point loss in there, a five point loss against
a couple of top teams in the Eastern Conference and
Toronto and Detroit. I think you're seeing the team that
many of us thought they would be at the beginning
(05:32):
of the season, which is missing their best player. Very
difficult to go a year without Tyreez Halliburton. Maybe not
a fifty win team like they were last year, but
one that's competitive night in a night out and is
gonna win, you know, fair share of games. And I
think they've looked that team over the last five or
six games, and defensively is probably where the biggest adjustments
(05:53):
have come. In today's NBA, when you hold an opponent's
double digits, that's a pretty big deal. And the Pacers
did it in that game, and tonight Chicago was at
ninety nine with ten seconds to go, so they nearly
did it three straight times. But for all intents and purposes,
the defense has won them their last couple of games,
and I think they're shaping up to be what we
(06:13):
hoped they would be, which is still you know, a
challenge without Haliburton, but a team that is certainly quite capable,
you know.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
And I think the thing about him too, is they
you know, it's well chronicled clearly that they be set
by injuries, but having nim Hart I think had to
be a huge boost to this group tonight. Just his presence.
You know, it's one of those situations where you go
to him and say, hey, look, you just do just
(06:43):
be here and give us your presence. Don't care how
much you scored, don't care. You just be here and
settle us down, no.
Speaker 7 (06:51):
Question, I mean, Andrew Nemhard might be like the ultimate.
He can put up stats, but you don't need that
guy from him his entire I mean you said it,
especially without Alberton available. He settles you down. He's a
fantastic defenders, He's he moves the ball, he's got great vision,
he's he's a good score. I mean, he's just he's
(07:12):
so freaking rock solid in that And sometimes when you
say that about guys, you're not talking about players who
are super talented. You know, he's really talented too, but
he's just he's so rock solid. And there was a point,
you know, ten games into the season or so where
if you're past Gal Siakam, you know it had to
be just this wild phenomenon because you're playing in the
NBA Finals not too long ago, and then around game ten,
(07:35):
you're looking at the group around you. Nemhard's not there,
he's out with injury. Mathern's not there, he's out with injury.
Of course, Tyrese and Obi Toppin. I mean, he must
have looked around and been like, what in the world happened?
Is this some version of the Twilight Zone? Well, now
they're getting these two guys back, Matherin back, nem Hart
is back, and things are kind of settling into place.
It took a little bit. Once they got those two,
(07:57):
it's back, and look they're still missing Obi tare Neith Smith.
I mean key players to what the papers were able
to accomplish last year. But they're a lot closer and
they're showing it on the floor.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Yeah, it's it's more than just getting your guys back,
some of your key guys back. It's being able to
have been together as a group for a while and
starting to put some things together. You know, you just look,
these guys are pros. And you use Huff as an example,
he's getting an opportunity and he's starting to take advantage
(08:29):
of it. Goes what on a fourteen to oh run
himself to start a ballgame. Guys are starting to feel
better and getting more time and feeling more relaxed and
given opportunities to show what they can do well.
Speaker 6 (08:42):
No questions.
Speaker 7 (08:42):
If you look at a guy like Jay Huff or
some of the newcomers to this team, and there's already
an acclamation period that happens when you're in that situation. Well,
and a guy like Jay Huff kind of had to
go through like three acclamation periods because the team that
he started the year with was very different five games
in and is now different to the group he's got now.
The other thing I think just getting a little bit
healthier does is everybody just kind of fits into place
(09:04):
a little bit better. You're maybe not asking quite as
much out of Jarris Walker and Ben Shepard, who of
course you're capable players, but you're maybe not asking them
to do quite as much as you are now. And
maybe Jay Huff has a little pressure on him, Isaiah
Jackson has a little less pressure on him, and everybody
just kind of fits into their roles a little bit better.
And I still think, you know, they're a little bit
(09:26):
stretched out in that regard still, I mean, not having
tyri taliburt. That shot that Siakam hit to win the
game was phenomenal. Two guys draped all over him. That
doesn't happen if Kyriy Caliburton is out on the floor.
So that dynamic is still at play, and it is
still a challenge for this team. I mean, they are
still pretty badly banged up, just not the horrific version
(09:47):
they were at the beginning of the year, but they're
able to persevere through the level of the challenge that
it is now in a couple of tough games coming
up with Cleveland and Denver here in the next few days,
so they'll get a really good test here on.
Speaker 6 (10:00):
Monday and Wednesday as well.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
Pat boiling from the pacers, Pat, I appreciate the call.
I know you did the ISSA Championship. I know that
was fun. I wish I had more time. Thank you
so much for the call. Have a fantastic weekend.
Speaker 7 (10:16):
You've got Brendan King.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
You don't need me, No, no, we always need you. Pat.
You know that. Thanks for the Ballpat, take care. Hey.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
I'm Brendan King with this network Indiana scoreboard update here
on Indiana Sports Talk, and since our last update, the
Irish have now doubled their lead on Stanford number nine
Notre Dame with a fourteen and nothing advantage on the
cardinal with a minute fifteen to play in the first
quarter from Palo Alto. Notre Dame has won nine consecutive
games since the zero and two start, and they have
come out strong tonight, rushing the ball for eighty one
(10:46):
yards on seventeen carries in the first quarter alone, and
both a rushing score for Jeremiah Love and Jadarian Price,
each Irish running back with a rushing TD. By the way, CJ.
Carr has played well early two. He's four or five
for forty six yards through the air. So going well
for the Irish to start this night on a late
game from California. And it went well for the Pacers
(11:08):
tonight from Gamebridge Fieldhouse, defeating the Bulls one hundred and
three to one hundred and one on a game winning
shot by Pascal Siaka. Mark Boyle had the call.
Speaker 8 (11:17):
Inbound pass challenged by Vucevich. Them Hart has it them
Hart looking, got it into Siaka seven seconds to play.
He's out near the logo, puts it on the floor,
starts his drive, pulls up right wing. He got it
off and he hit it with one tenth of a
second to play, a right wing jump shot and that's
the game. Indiana wins it one O three, one oh.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
One, Mark Boyle on the call Pacers Radio Network. Indiana
has won back to back games for the first time
this year, over the Wizards last night and the Bulls tonight.
College football in the D three level to Paul over
Wisconsin Whitewater twenty six to twenty three in the second
round of the D three Playoffs. Also the D three Playoffs,
Hanover goes down at the hands of North Central thirty
(11:59):
eight to six, Naia Level marrying over Dort twenty sixty eighteen,
and it was Lindsey Wilson out of Kentucky over Indiana
Wesley In fifty seven to thirty one. I'm Brendan King,
Welcome back everyone.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
The best at what he does has joined us. Greg
Rigstrow with his busy day. Surprisingly, another busy day for
Greg Rigstrow opened up his day doing the IU Indy
Moorhead State game. I you Indy with a eighty five
eighty win, very good win, and then traveling a long
(12:36):
distance for him having to go all the way down
to Lucas So Oil Stadium and do the six to
eight championship won by Brownsburg thirty eight thirty one over Westfield. Greg,
thanks for the call. I know you've had a long day,
but how about the Jags today? It's a good solid
win for them.
Speaker 9 (12:52):
How about the Jaguars? Indeed, and again eighty five eighty
may not sound like much, it was one of the
better defensive efforts of the season for IU and he
given the out of his style and pace at which
they played, led Morehead State thirty three to thirty at halftime. Really,
both teams had their offenses kicking the gear in half.
Number two Jaguars finished the day and you might get
(13:13):
weak in the knees hearing these numbers, all right, fourteen
mate frees, that's impressive out of forty five threes taken
for IU Indy. Again, it's the nature of their offense, Bob,
is to make you smile. Mike and Davis had twenty
four points. A new Crew five with the former Franklin
Grizzly cub went six of eleven from three point range.
(13:34):
Kyler di Augustino led the way for IU Indy. He
had twenty five points. Finley Woodward, his typical solid game,
had nine assists, had seven rebounds. Jaguars got it to
as many as an eighteen point lead. Morehead State got
it down to four. John Carroll led them with twenty
three points, but IU Indy hits enough free throws down
(13:55):
the stretch to win the game eighty five eighty. It's
their third one of their sea in their second win
against the Vision One competition, and now heads off into
conference play when they visited Throit Mercy coming up on
Wednesday night.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
See. I think it's an important win for a number
of reasons. One, you're at home. You need to win
when you're at home. And secondly, brand new system. You're
going against the grain, if you will, of the rest
of the basketball world and the manner in which you play.
It takes a while, you have to be patient, but
(14:31):
that's a hard thing for everybody to accept. And so
it's a very impressive win. And as you point out,
it's great to see them tighten up defensively today.
Speaker 9 (14:42):
And today was the day where I thought, all right,
this is where those are the numbers you wanted to see.
And I'll explain twenty one turnovers that were forced today
by IU Indy and on some of those, again conventional
wisdom is hey get the steal, Hey go to the bucket.
No no, no. The way IU Indy plays is get
(15:02):
to steal, go shoot a three. A couple of plays
it paid off, you get a steal. Maguire Mitchell hits
the three. He made three of those in the second half.
Mike al Davis had a similar play, gets to steal,
fires a three that connects and Bob kind of the
unintended you know, consequence of it, given where IU Indy
plays their home games, you know, in such cozy confines
(15:24):
of the Jungles. First of all, it was a really
good crowd, especially considering the weather forecast that it really
kicking still around DN Diamond down to Minnapolis. But it
got loud in that building, and so you gotta have
that that home court advantage. Uh, when you have you know,
a D and three play, it kind of reversed what people,
you know, try to try to say it. But the
(15:46):
fact is is that IU Indy forced eleven more turnovers
than they committed and made nine more threes in the opponent.
And I would say this, if you're gonna win those
two stats, if you're gonna win more points off of
threes and more turnovers forced, you're gonna win a lot
of games. And so a chance you indyes that their
their players may have kind of figured out what the
(16:07):
recipe for success in terms of how they played in
this afternoons contest.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
Now at the level House, that facility is referred to
as the Bob dum.
Speaker 6 (16:18):
Well.
Speaker 9 (16:19):
Christin Hazley does now want to know is the color
analyst we might be changing the name.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
I like you, I like everything everything about you. That's
a great comeback.
Speaker 9 (16:34):
They I'll throw this out there too. It again. I'll
throw some love to your adopted dump down a playing field.
The other the other staff that I have noticed is
when Michael Davis scores points, IYU Indy wins when he
has had his three best scoring performances by you, Columbus,
Eastern Michigan, and Moorhead State.
Speaker 6 (16:52):
Mike and Davis.
Speaker 9 (16:53):
Maybe the guy that don't likes the key success for
the Jaguars season as well.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
He knows how to play, he knows how to win,
and those are big things. Then you jump in your car.
Not an easy campus to get off of during a game,
but you can get off campus, drive down to Lucas
Oil and the Bulldogs. It's a repeat of last year's
(17:18):
six to a championship Brownsburg Westfield, same result. Brownsburg wins.
This one thirty eight thirty one one score game didn't
lack drama. Was a really well played game to finish
out the weekend of football.
Speaker 9 (17:35):
Yeah, Brownsburg scored every time they touched the ball. In
the first half. They put up thirty of their thirty
eight and half number one, different type of game, and
half number two kind of more of a game of keepaway.
You know, Brownsburg had the ball to start the third quarter,
they have to punt the ball for the first time.
But then Westfield went three and out. Brownsburg would be
able to score and make it thirty eight to seventeen,
and from that point in time, Westfield was in comeback
(17:56):
mode and Browns were just kind of run the ball,
run on the clock. Westfield would score with eleven seconds
left to make it thirty eight to thirty one, tried
their second on sidekick. Neither of those ended up being successful,
so again, in all honesty, it was more of a
two score game for the majority of the game. But
(18:17):
make no doubt about it, Brownsburg was the better team
for the second time in school history. They go back
to back in terms of state championships, and they joined
Center Grove as the only team in the relatively brief
era of six A football. This being the thirteenth year,
Brownsburg and Center Grove were the only teams to have
won back to back state titles, and Center Grove remains
(18:38):
as the only one that has won three in a row.
Although Brownsburg will certainly be in the mix fifty two
weeks from now.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
So we know Brownsburg has the capability offensively to put
points on the board, But that first half they were
so prolific doing it. How are they able to do
that against the team in the caliber of Westfield?
Speaker 9 (18:58):
Well, how about do you have a guy like Brandon Sharp,
who on a team full of really good high school
football players and some level of college prospect, is probably
the highest end prospect. Brandon touched the ball five times tonight, Bob,
and had two hundred fifty yards of total offense. Now, yeah,
one of those was on a ninety nine yard kickoff return,
(19:19):
which is a new State Finals record. The previous all
Division record was Malik Perkins, who had a ninety eight
yarder in the Whiteland game against Valparaiso three years ago.
That is what pushed the score to twenty seven to
seventeen after Westfield made a three point game late in
the second quarter. The other four touches for Brandon were
(19:39):
of one hundred and fifty one yards, receiving one of
those for a touchdown, and so he sets a new
again it's only been thirteen years, but a new six
A record in terms of receiving yards of the game,
and he is back next year. He is just a junior,
so was their starting quarterback in Oscar Fry. Brownsburg does
graduate the other two starting receivers, does graduate their top
(20:00):
two running backs, but the junior who was a third
swringer this year and Brady Lewis ran for seven hundred yards.
In other words, Brownsburg is not going away when it
comes to next year six A football. And again, I
given kind of who's coming back and maybe kind of
who's in the coaching seats these days, I'm not sure
if six A has ever been this deep and this
(20:21):
good as it is set up to be a year
from now.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
See. I think that's what makes this such an important
and impressive win for Brownsburg is that, as you point out,
six A has some really really talented teams, and for
you to go back to back against that competition, that's impressive.
Speaker 9 (20:41):
Correct, And until tonight, nobody even within twenty three points
of Brownsburg. Now, there's been kind of some upsets along
their path that may have changed the road. I think
these two teams kind of had the idea that they
would see each other again. You know, Westfield may be
landing an upset to some in terms of beating Carmel
in the sectional final, and once they got past them,
you kind of say, okay, Brownsburg and Westfield would play
(21:01):
each other again. And to Westfield's credit, you know, their
concern going into the season was offense, and they made
some changes mid season to kind of job share the
quarterback role between Grabowski and sophomore Cooper Melvin Franklin. The
Knight was almost exclusively Melvin, and again he played well.
Westfield scored thirty one points. That's the most that Brownsburg
(21:23):
had allowed all season long, but it still wasn't up
the top of the Bulldogs, who were just solid in
every phase of the game.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
He's Greg Reigstrow. He's the best at what he does.
Brownsburg wins the six to eight title. IU Indy wins
their basketball game against Morehead State. Greg. Thank you. I
know you've had a long, long day. Thanks for taking time.
I'll see you this week.
Speaker 9 (21:48):
Thank you, coach.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
Thank you. Hey.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
I'm Brendan King with this network Indiana scoreboard update here
on Indiana Sports Talk. I feel like with every update,
the Irish continued to add on to their lead. They
have now tripled up what they did after the top
of the hour and it's twenty one and nothing, Notre
Dame leading Stanford thirteen minutes in change left in the
first half. The Irish got it done on the ground
(22:12):
in the first quarter, touchdown scores from Jeremiah Love and
Judarian Price, but most recently Notre Dame running a little
trickery eighty four yard touchdown pass from defensive lineman Joshua
Burnham to tight eded Luke Tallock eighty four yards downfield.
CJ Carr no interest in being part of that. Joshua
(22:35):
Burnham takes care of it, and Notre Dame is up
twenty one to nothing. And that one from Palo Alto
over Stanford. Again, we're talking about some small college football
a little bit earlier one that we have to add
in grandview. In the NAIA postseason, got the best of
Saint Francis today sixty two to twenty. It was Lindsay
(22:56):
Wilson out of Kentucky over Indiana Wesleyan in fifty seven
thirty one. And Marion defeated Dork today twenty six eighteen
for DePaul. They're moving on in the D three playoffs
second round today DuPont twenty six Wisconsin Whitewater twenty three
and also in the second round of the D three playoffs.
Road comes to an end for hanover beaten today by
(23:17):
North Central three eight to six. Keep an eye on
post polments in high school basketball forty eight total. However,
a couple overtime games. Cincinnati San Xavier over rebuff sixty
four fifty six at oh See. Also an extra time
Evansville North got the best of Princeton sixty seven to
sixty one.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Welcome back everyone college football today. As you heard Brendan
mentioned to Paul beats University Wisconsin Whitewater twenty six, twenty
three with me to Paul head coach Brett Deetson coach,
congratulations on a tremendous win today.
Speaker 6 (23:53):
Thanks man. That was a fun one, you know, up
in the snow. Yeah, I mean as the game went on,
just more and more kept pile en up and and
just one of those games you're you're always going to remember,
regardless of the outcome, but when you win, especially in
a close one, you're definitely gonna remember this. And uh,
just a huge program victory for us in our program.
(24:14):
You know, anytime you can beat one of the Wisconference
schools and the playoffs up at their place. It's just
a massive win, so huge stuff for us today and
excited for the future.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
It's it's huge in the sense that they've won their
for their last four years, they've won these quarterfinal games,
and they're they're the team that in the Midwest where
the committee sends UH your conference and and hanover scout
you know this, this is the opponent that you guys
always get stuck with. UH And for those who don't
(24:45):
understand Division III athletics, it's hard to beat the the
Wisconsin teams in any sport because of how they're set up.
And so this is an incredible win for you and
your guys.
Speaker 6 (24:58):
Exactly. I mean, White Wall or we fall exactly within
that NC double A five hundred mile rule. So it
seems like we do get set up with them a lot. Yeah, sure,
but it's I mean, you had to hit the nail
on the head.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
You know.
Speaker 6 (25:11):
The way their schools are set up. I mean, they
have over ten thousand students in their school. It's a
public school type system, and that system for them, so
just an incredible league. So to get a win over
anybody in that league, much less a playoff team as
good as they were very impressed with our guys today
and our resilience, and it was it was a weird
(25:32):
game obviously, all the snow, but you know, we doubled
them up in a lot of things. We doubled them
up in first downs. I mean we had one hundred
and eighty yards rushing. We held them to twenty yards
rushing and so, you know, just to be able to
control the ball on the ground like that, right, We
killed them in time and possession, We killed them in
third down conversions. The score was a lot closer than
(25:52):
it should have been. You know. We end up throwing
a pick six that they got, you know, and then
another one of their touchdowns went through our defender's hands,
should have been interception, end up tipping off our guys
hands and they took it into the end zone. So
I thought we played better than the score did. But
if you look at the stats, you know, very proud
of how our guys did.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
All right, So what's up next? Who do you play next?
In the in the in the next round.
Speaker 6 (26:18):
Well, there was an upset on the other side of
the bracket. Wartburg was the top five team in the
country and they lost today to Wheaton. Wheat and is
technically a lower seed than us, so we should have
a home game. I don't haven't heard that officially, right,
but but we should get an NCB should award us
with the home game next week, So Wheaton College will
(26:40):
will head down to green Castle on Saturday.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
Oh my goodness, I love everything about this. Are you
kidding me? The place will be you know, the Bell game.
You should have a similar atmosphere coming up for the playoffs.
Speaker 6 (26:57):
Yeah, it should be a great thing. You know, this
week Thanksgiving, right, so we are so Whitewater to have
a huge crowd just because of Thanksgiving, but we will
have all the students back on campus this week. Yeah,
and expecting the Tiger Tiger nation to show up for
this game. So so very excited to get back home.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
Incredibly happy for you, Britt, I really am, and I appreciate.
I know you've had a long, long day and for
you to take the time to call me means a lot.
I wish you and the Tigers are the best next week.
Congratulations again, and enjoy the time this weekend.
Speaker 6 (27:31):
Thanks. I appreciate we're still up here in Whitewater. Uh,
there was too much snow here to hold ont and
come home, So we went back to the same hotel
and kids have been hanging out. Obviously we're all exhausted,
but we'll get some rest tonight, get up, come home tomorrow,
and get ready to beat Leaton.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
Be safe.
Speaker 6 (27:49):
Thanks for the call, Britt, Thank you, appreciate, thank you.
Speaker 1 (27:53):
Jeff Ricker joins us from the i HSAH Champions Network.
What game did you have? I don't seem to have
this in front of me.
Speaker 10 (28:03):
I had the six A game on radio Brownsburg and Westfield.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
Yeah, yeah, Brownsburg not a repeat of last year's game,
and sadly for Westfield, the same result in Bulldogs thirty
eight thirty one winners. How about the start? How about
the first half that the Brownsburg Bulldogs have.
Speaker 10 (28:23):
Let me tell you something. Brendan Sharp is a difference
maker and you know that. And he had one hundred
and sixty yards on two catches, maybe three catches in
the first half, and he had the ninety nine yard
touchdown return. And honestly, that's the difference in the game,
because if you break down the team statistics, they were
almost dead even for yards gained, they were almost dead
(28:46):
even for first downs. Westfield might have even been a
little bit ahead Westfield had fourteen more plays on offense
than Brownsburg rand, but Brownsburg getting up with a seven
point win.
Speaker 6 (28:57):
That's how it goes.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
Sometimes.
Speaker 3 (28:58):
They were more efficient with the plays they have.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
Yeah, and they have that big play capability any anywhere
on the field with some dynamic game changers, if you will,
and they showed themselves to be that way in that
first half.
Speaker 10 (29:14):
No, they were terrific Oscar Fry is just so good
as that quarterback. He's so study, and they just keep
coming at you with the running game. They've got aj
Joe who's terrific. They've got a couple of other guys
that just keep coming at you. And then they've got
more than just sharp on the outside. They've got weapons everywhere,
and they got a big front line that opens holes
(29:35):
and they get four to five yards of carry seemingly
every time. I think they average six point six yards
of play tonight, which is not bad.
Speaker 6 (29:42):
Coach, You'll take that.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
Right, absolutely, big win back to back for the Brownsburg Bulldogs.
As a playfield man, you know, it's hard for me
to heap praise on them, but you got to give
them their due. That is quite and that's quite an accomplishment.
Jeff Rick, it's great to talk to you. We don't
talk anymore. I don't see why you're too busy, but
(30:06):
I'm glad you called. I hope you enjoy the weekend.
Speaker 10 (30:09):
I will pick up the phone anytime I see Bob
Love will show up on that streat.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
I appreciate it. Jeff, thanks a lot, Thanks Bob, thank you.
Before we get to Paul Condrey, I want to talk
to my broadcast partner for many years, Matt Surfas. What
game did you have Matt at the finals?
Speaker 11 (30:28):
Oh, Bob, I had the four A and the six A.
I was working with Jeff there on the sixth A.
But yeah, I had the Bishop Dwinger, my good friend
Chris Diddo and former college roommate, his old high school
team against my old broadcast partner, Matt Taylor. The voice
of the Colts is Ron Kelly.
Speaker 6 (30:47):
Yeah, Royals. Heck of a game.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
So how does Twinger? How does Dwinger win this game?
Thirty six thirty nine? Tell me about how they win this?
Speaker 6 (30:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (30:55):
You know, I mean this was a game that they battled.
The first game of the year. They Ron Colly won
three to nothing, and so you know, you don't expect
much scoring to go on, right, Well, no, they came
out and both of them were trading punches and ultimately
there was just there was some craziness.
Speaker 6 (31:14):
Fort Wayne.
Speaker 11 (31:15):
Bishop Dinger ran a fake field goal, it ended up
scoring a touchdown. On they were going to attempt a
fifty three yard field goal, but they ran a fake
and scored a touchdown. But ultimately it was just kind
of a back and forth, lot of lead changes. Ron
Colly had the ball with just under two minutes on
their own eight yard line, drove it down to the
(31:37):
five and had two to get it in, and Bishop
Doinger's great defense just stepped.
Speaker 6 (31:43):
Up and made play at the end to finish it.
Speaker 11 (31:45):
So outstanding ballgame, and I'm happy for coach Jason Garrett
and that crew up there in Fort Wayne.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
Well that is listen, this was one of those weekends
where there were great games. I mean all three of
them today, all three of them today, they were just
great games. And that one in terms of back and
forth and the finish may have been as good as any.
Speaker 3 (32:08):
I totally agree.
Speaker 11 (32:10):
And I mean as a guy that's done several of
these over the years, uh so, you know you get
a few that there's a lot of separation there in
the second half, and you got to fill right. These
were down to the down to the wire and a
lot of fun all of them today. H the two A,
four A, and six A all within a one score game.
Speaker 6 (32:29):
So good stuff, good, really good stuff.
Speaker 3 (32:33):
Matt.
Speaker 1 (32:34):
We need to have lunch, We need to catch up.
Speaker 11 (32:37):
We do talk about our Hoosiers at some point, right, we.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
Do need to talk about your hoosiers, brother, at some point.
They seem to be doing okay without you.
Speaker 10 (32:47):
I don't know not to, I don't I don't know.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
How, but they're they're managing to go ahead and do okay. Matt.
Thanks for the call.
Speaker 6 (32:58):
Yeah, I get the Paul tell tell Iva. I said, hello,
it's great to.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
All do that hoop charity for me and kiss the
kids still tell them I love them.
Speaker 6 (33:06):
All right, Thanks Matt, all right, see.
Speaker 1 (33:08):
You coming up. Scoreboard Update with Brendan King and then
the man himself, the most important man football in the
state of Indiana, Paul Condrey.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
I'm Brendan King with this network Indiana Scoreboard Update here
on Indiana Sports Talk. Congratulations to our six new state
champions and the IHSAA football State Finals. South Putnam Cascade,
New Palestine yesterday. Of course, that's back to back for
New pal four A and five A respectively from year
to year. And this morning andre And taking down Brownstown
(33:41):
Central seven and nothing fort Wayne Dwanger over ron Klli
thirty six twenty nine and the Bulldogs go back to
back in six A thirty eight thirty one, handling their
rival Westfield again. Big congratulations in order to all six
of those winners, all the Mental Attitude Award winners in
the IHSAA for a job well done. Well we now
oh flip the page to high School of Basketball. That's
(34:02):
what's coming up on the show next week. Here on
the Big Show, ist quick update from Palo Alto. Notre
Dame continues to pile it on over Stanford. Still a
twenty one nothing game. The Irish look to score at
the goal line in as Williams marching downfield on what
looked to be a touchdown score he was ruled short.
Irish will have the ball at the goal line with
ten minutes left in the first half. There from Stanford again,
(34:24):
it's the Irish twenty one and the Cardinal nothing. The
Irish look for their tenth consecutive wins since that one
to two start and NFL Sunday tomorrow Colts Texans one o'clock. CJ.
Stroud back for Houston, Daniel Jones playing with that fractured fibula.
Big day in the AFC South with the Houston Texans
in town, and then Jaguars will be in Nashville they
take on the Titans. Don't forget Jacksonville in striking range
(34:47):
in the AFC South culture eight and three, Jags are
seven and four, Texans are six and five. Couple other
notable games in the league. Buccaneers host the Cardinals at one,
Rams are at the Panthers that won Bill Steelers at
four to twenty five. Aaron Rodgers expected to play for Pittsburgh.
I'm running king.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
What better way to wrap up the high school championships?
That talk to the man as the most important person
in our state in terms of football, the legendary Paul Condrey. Paul,
thanks so much for the call. What a weekend? What
a weekend?
Speaker 3 (35:21):
Yeah, it was a really fun opportunity for all the
student athletes and obviously for the thirty six and fifty
three fans. Matt went to the turnstiles. It was a
good Night Showcase the Great Game of American Tackle Football.
Excited for the opportunities that the kids had. We saw
some competitive football games, we saw some unique games, we
(35:42):
saw some spectacular athletic skills. We saw some terrific coaching
throughout the course of the sixth day love Fest of
American Tackle Football.
Speaker 6 (35:53):
And we've got champions.
Speaker 3 (35:54):
We've got some teams who continued just to be tradition
rich and of course the winner that's their four championship.
Do you look what they did today? They now put
themselves in an elite company because now they are tied
with the legendary Hobart Brickeys for the most championships in
Northwest Indiana. So they have tied there. And if you
(36:16):
look at Dwanger wins another championship, and okay, what Jason
Garrett's call on the on the fake field goal was
one of the most exciting plays Brownsburg. You know, they've
won four titles, now, what can you say? And we
saw some teams that really kind of came through and
just kind of it was kind of a break break
(36:37):
I'm going to say breakthrough moments for teams like South
Puttingham and Cascade. Excited for the direction that those programs
are going in, and we saw some terrific athletes really
showcase their skills, and we had a chance to see
the future of high school football in the Hoosier State,
like the great performance today in the sixth dight game
(36:57):
by Cayden Snow, a six to three, two hundred and
five pound freshman.
Speaker 6 (37:01):
So Indiana football is alive.
Speaker 3 (37:03):
And well, and it certainly was a wide variety of
different opportunities to see our kids play and excited about
that coach.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
You know, there's story, great storylines in each one of
these games. And the andre and Minton's Brownstown Central game,
Bronstown Central comes in as the leading team, leading scoring
team in the state and what does Andrean do? They
shut him out? It just I think that illustrates how
(37:33):
these games. I don't know that it's the greatest championship
day we've had, but I would tell you what it's
in the top five.
Speaker 6 (37:40):
I tell you what I mean.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
When you got to go back to nineteen eighty seven
at the last time they read may Brownstown Central team plays,
I believe that's like three hundred and some odd games,
and that just is not hasn't happened, And what Andrean did,
and a lot of credit to their coaching staff. They
had him, everybody prepared, they had guys playing at positions
that throughout the course of the season that they didn't
(38:03):
play in and they made the adjustments necessary. So Chris
Skinner done a spectacular job. He's putting himself in some era.
Not only did he win a baseball championship as a
high schooler, but he won a football championship as a
high scorer, and now he's won two as the head coach.
He's turning himself into one of the premier coaches in
(38:24):
the northern half of the state. And you're going to
even make the argument for the state with the way
his team played. And they've got some talent and underclassmen
that so the future so bright. He's going to have
to wear shades and so. But it was a fun
day of football. I was excited to see some of
the teams. You know, a little bit of disappointment that
Michael Hill, the great quarterback from Meryville, got injured. We
(38:45):
didn't need to see the great player that he was
that I had a chance to see play four or
five times this year.
Speaker 6 (38:51):
But you know, that's part of the game.
Speaker 3 (38:53):
You know, injuries are going to happen.
Speaker 6 (38:54):
We saw some teams that honestly that.
Speaker 3 (38:58):
You know, you look at this Westfield team is a
loaded group and Brownsburg methodically just dissected them like a
fine surgeon. But give give Westfield a lot of credit
in Josh Miracle, it's just a terrific young coach and
a terrific young person. His kids never quit. They battled back,
and I'm excited for the direction of that program continues
(39:19):
to go trending in the right direction. But it was
a fun day, a fun two days of high school football.
I'm excited for some of those young sportscasters to get
opportunity to broadcast championship games.
Speaker 6 (39:31):
You know, Bobby and I've been doing this job a.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
Long long time, and to see their young town like
Brendan King, some of those young kids get chances to
showcase their amazing skills. And I'm excited as we turn
the page on for what you and I have been
able to do over these many, many decades.
Speaker 6 (39:50):
And as I.
Speaker 3 (39:50):
Always close it out, Coach, two hundred and forty seven
days the Pads, two hundred and sixty five days to
the season opener, Welcome.
Speaker 1 (39:59):
Back, Thank everybody, let's go out to Palo alto talk
about the Irish. Notre Dame leading Stanford twenty eight nothing.
Just before the end of the first half, the legendary
Lynn Clark joins me. Lynn's been a pretty impressive half
of the Irish.
Speaker 12 (40:17):
It has twenty eight to nothing. Hamper with the ball
fourth and seven at the Notre Dame twenty one yard line.
They are going to turn it over on downs. But
Bob the Dick's storyline, Jeremiah Love, after rushing nine times
fifty eight yards in a touchdown, hurts his ribs. He
leaves at the two forty eight mark over the first quarter.
Oh and he has his helmet on, but a little consume.
(40:39):
We've always talked about. The one stat that would really
rock Notre Dame is injury. But Andyus Williams has come in.
He has scored a touchdown. But here's the stat for you,
Bob CJ. Carr seventy seven yards, but he's not the
leading passer. Linebacker Josh Burham on a fake punch, puts
to Luke Talich. They go eighty four yards for the score.
Speaker 6 (40:57):
Notre Dame just dominating this.
Speaker 12 (41:00):
Yeah, the two hundred and sixty six total yards to
eighty six. But the one big stat Notre Dame with
the ball fifteen minutes fifty nine seconds Stamford with the
ball only six minutes and thirty five seconds.
Speaker 1 (41:11):
That's big. Let's hope that Love is okay. This would
be this would be really really big without him. It's
an impressive way to again when lose the first two,
run the table. We saw that movie last year, they
ran it again this year. It is an incredible accomplishment
for this bunch.
Speaker 12 (41:32):
It is running off ten straight wins. If they can
hold on against Stanford. Hopefully they will, but right now
the football calculus begin after this.
Speaker 6 (41:41):
A lot of.
Speaker 12 (41:41):
Teams that Notre Dame fans wanted to lose did not.
The big one it really hurts Notre Dame is the
loss by Texas A and M to Texas.
Speaker 6 (41:49):
So the pundits will get together and Notre Dame.
Speaker 12 (41:53):
Right now, a lot of people saying they might not
make this college football playoff, but that's out of their
hands right now. The only thing Marcus treaming Irish are
concerned about is staying really injury free for the second
half and coming out with a victory.
Speaker 6 (42:05):
Stanford just with a field goal.
Speaker 12 (42:07):
Right there, They're on the board twenty eighth to three
with two minutes and thirty eight seconds to play in
the first half.
Speaker 1 (42:12):
Irish one oh one's doctor Lynn Clark, also the author
of the incredibly successful Vision Values and Victory's Notre Dame
Style Leadership. Buy it wherever you buy your books, Doctor Clark.
Thank you so much, Lynn for the call. Enjoy the
weekend and be safe.
Speaker 6 (42:31):
Thanks Bob, you two, Thank you.
Speaker 1 (42:35):
There you have it. Irish looking like another win and
this may not put them in I don't I guess
I don't understand, but there are plenty of things I
don't understand. All right, Colts in action tomorrow one o'clock
against the Texans, don't forget to join us next weekend
because we are into basketball next weekend. You know that change,
(43:01):
that transition time we're going through. We're making the move.
We had some games, a lot of games postponed because
of the weather today, but we're going to be into
it in the entire weekend next weekend on Friday and
Saturday shows next weekend. My thanks to Brendan King, Caleb Zuver,
and to our great radio stations around the state to
(43:23):
bring you the show every Friday and Saturday night and
for thirty one years. We thank you for making us
the most listened to sports suction on state's history. It
is the history making legendary network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk
