Speaker 3 (00:43):
Coach, thanks so much and let's get right to it.
The IHSAA Football State Finals Day one is complete from
Lucas Oil Stadium and it's time to break down everything
we saw. Starting this morning with the Class A state
title South buttnap for Pioneer. In a game that was
fourteen all and halftime, South Putnam runs away within it

(01:06):
fifty five to twenty nine. South Putnam's first football state
championship since nineteen eighty six. They had seven different players
in the game scoring touchdowns. That's the most ever by
a single team in a state finals game, and South
Putnam was led by their running back Ty Benton, who
is just a junior by the way, one hundred and

(01:28):
forty yards on the ground on nineteen carries, plus he
was one of those seven players that had a touchdown score.
Congratulations also in order to Pioneer's quarterback micah Rans, he
was the Mental Attitude Award winner. That was game number one.
Game number two was Class three A, which had Cascade

(01:48):
taking down Fort Wayne Bishop Lures twenty nine to fourteen
lures held without their thirteenth state tunnel, that's what it
would have been. With the victory Cascade gets. It's their first.
It's the best finished to a football season for Cascade ever.
Their last best was a sectional championship in nineteen ninety two.

(02:11):
First time they've raised the trophy and their quarterback Brady
Trembley got it done in the game and also after
the game. He was the Mental Attitude Award winner of
Congratulations to him and also Cascade running back Dayton Mink.
He was the MVP of the game. Twenty five carries
for one hundred and twenty two yards, two touchdown scores

(02:33):
in the ballgame We finished up with Class five A
New Palestine rocking Maryville thirty eight to seventeen, a game
that went back and forth. At first Maraville was on
the board. First New Palestine answered with a forty yard
touchdown pass and then the Dragons started to run away
with it. They are back to back champions last year

(02:54):
in four A, this year in five A, and now
since twenty fourteen, Kyle Row in company from New Palestine
have five state championships twenty fourteen, twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen,
twenty twenty four and now twenty twenty five. New Palestine
ran for three hundred and twelve yards on the ground

(03:15):
as a team. Davis had one hundred and twenty nine
of them in the game as caden Jacobia, one of
their running backs, ran for one hundred and twenty five
and two scores. Metal Altitude Award winner from PLAST five
A was also from newpal It was Ave Walling. Congratulations
to him. Now to Wes Lafayette from the Bucket game
two aut timeout from Ross aid, It's all Indiana. Number two.

(03:38):
Indiana is on their way to the Big Ten championship
game fifty six to three beat down by the Hoosiers
on the Boilers Indiana. It was a seven to three
lead for IU after the first quarter, but twenty one
points in both the second and the third have led
them to this point. Hasn't been the traditional Indiana way,
though Indiana has ran for three hundred and forty five

(04:00):
on the ground. As a team, they've scored five rushing touchdowns.
Fernando Mendoza relatively quiet night. It's gonna be the first
game for Mendoza as a Hoosier or he has not
completed at least ten passes, eight for fifteen one hundred
and seventeen yards, two touchdown passes. His brother Alberto is
now into the game in relief, but still Indiana is

(04:20):
gonna walk away with a massive victory. Tonight up in
West Lafayette for the Pacers, a matchup of two win
teams at Cambridge Fieldouts. The Pacers prevail over the Wizards,
and they crushed them one hundred and nineteen to eighty six.
Pascal Siakam twenty four points and eleven remounts. College basketball
Number one Perdue held pour it over Eastern Illinois one
hundred and nine to sixty two Boilers or seven to zero.

(04:43):
Butler defeated Wright State ninety four to sixty nine. Al
Corn State got the best of Indiana State eighty one
seventy four, and Perdue Fort Wayne earned the win against
holy Cross ninety two to fifty nine.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
Since obviously making a trip back to the state championship
and you're not unfamiliar with winning state championships as a coach,
It's amazing what you've been able to do in your career.
But first time in a long time for the Bulldogs.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
Yeah, thirty nine years since the eighty four eighty five
team won back to back. But I'll tell you, Brownsburg's
a championship community. They've won another sports but just their support,
what it means to the academics Browsburg's yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
Send it to me. Sorry about that, folks, a little discussion.
We are trying to catch up with the coaches involved
in the championship games. Tomorrow, John Hart will be leading
the Brawsburg Bulldogs in their matchup with Westfield. That was

(05:49):
a conversation not from this year, that was from last year.
So sometimes you make mistakes like all and so we
apologize for that. For that, We do appreciate you being
with us. It's been a very busy, busy day. If
you're out tomorrow, be very careful. If you're heading in
for the championships at Lucas Oil Stadium, give yourself plenty

(06:12):
of time. Uh, and especially if you're on when you're
on your way home. I'm not a weather man. I
just know that things things and things are things are.
They're icky out there. The legend himself, Paul Condrey, joins us.
He is the He's Indian Indiana Football Hall of Fame,
Indiana Sports Writers and Sportscasters Hall of Fame, founder of

(06:36):
the Regional Radio Sports Network, publisher of Indiana Football Digest,
and the best friend football has in the state of Indiana. Paul,
thank you so much for the call. Busy day of football.
Give me your overall impression of the three champions that
we crowned today.

Speaker 5 (06:53):
Well, first of all, great to be with your coach.
Thank you for the kind words. Well, say what I
thought going in that at South Puttnam in the first game,
I just thought that Chuck Sorels kids were so much
more physical than Pioneer. You know, they survey able to
survive that first half, and then once they took care
of business, that second half was just a monolith. Quite frankly,

(07:18):
I thought South Puttenham the Eagles and a very very
young group. But this is a team that'll jump up
to two A next year, and they could be one
of the favorites going in next year because they are loaded.
I was so impressed with the with the Ben kid
just did a wonderful job of running the football. I
thought they orchestrated things well defensively. I thought they kept

(07:39):
that I octane Pioneer Panthers team in check. But you know,
a big win for coach Sorel and his kids. Taking
care of business, I thought. And in the Metal game,
you know, it was an interesting situation. I really thought
that Fort Waite Bishop's lures schedule was going to be
advantageous to the success. However, I thought I thought Cascade

(08:03):
played with pace and played with Temple. Quite frankly, Bobby,
I know you hate it when I crossover sports here,
but it's a lot like it's a lot when I
watched when I when I called these Bethley University men's
basketball games, they played with pace. They dictate the tempo,
and I thought Cascade dictated the tempo. They dictated every

(08:25):
aspect of the football game. Bishop Lewis didn't know what
hit him, and that was a great win for Cascade. Uh.
You know, obviously at the school's first championship, they run
the table right and go fifteen to no. I didn't
think Lures handled the handle things as well as they
should have based upon, you know, the success this program
has had over the many many years. And then in
the and then in the nightcap, what a tremendous football

(08:48):
game until the last eight minutes of the football game.
It was seventeen seventeen where they minutes and people will
look at the final score and say, well, man, that
was the blowout, But it really was in a blowout.
And I tell you what, if Michael Hill doesn't get
hurt in the second quarter of the of the varsity
game in five A, I think it's a completely different game.

(09:10):
I think he's such a tremendous talent and an absolute
game break here. I think he is an electrifying player.
And you can't take the best player on your football
team out of your lineup against the team that's won
twenty eight straight football games and expect and expect to
win the football game. So I think once again Newpal
deserved the championship. They played the best down the stretch

(09:32):
to win the championship. Congratulations to coach Ralph. You know
he's in rare air. I mean, the only coach is
to win underdefeated championships at this level is Dick Dellahan
and but right, so now you put yourself into the
mount rushmore coaches right with those two guys. So a

(09:53):
good win for newpal I thought Marrable played hard. I
thought Marrable showed the Dalm the conference with a lot
of respect. But Newfou had more guests in the tank
in the last eight minutes of the football game to
win it all.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
I know you've had a long day. I'm gonna let
you go, but I appreciate the call. We'll talk to
you tomorrow night. Paul Condrey the best at football in
our state. He is the best thing going for football
around our state. Paul, my best to your lovely wife
and your team. Thanks for the call. We'll talk to
you tomorrow night. Thanks Jose, Thank you.

Speaker 3 (11:04):
It is over from West Lafayette. That's both tonight's bucket
game and this football season for the Perdue Bullemakers. The
number two Indiana Hoosiers roll over Perdue in the Bucket
Game fifty six to three. Indiana has concluded the regular
season twelve and oh and nine to zero in the
Big Ten. As for Perdue, they'll wrap it up two

(11:26):
in ten without a Big Ten win. This is a
game after a quarter that's sat at a seven to
three lead for Indiana, but then the Hoosiers rattled off
consecutive quarters of twenty one points each, followed by seven
more points in the fourth quarter to beat down their rival.
First game for Fernando Mendez as a Hoosier where he
completes less than ten passes, it doesn't matter. Two of

(11:47):
the eight passes he completed in the game for one
hundred and seventeen yards went down his touchdown scores, and
Indiana as a team ran for three hundred and fifty
five yards three hundred and fifty five. They scored five
rushing touchdowns as well in the game, and they also
were bolstered by the return of Elijah Surratt, star wide
receiver scored in his first game back, had missed the

(12:08):
previous three ball games. Three catches for forty one yards
in the game. Omar Cooper added three grabs for sixty
four yards on the day. Indiana is heading to the
Big Ten Championship game as again. The Hoosiers have won
the bucket game in West Lafayette fifty six to three
for the Pacers. They crushed the Wizards tonight one hundred

(12:29):
and nineteen to eighty six. That was a matchup of
a couple two win ball clubs. Indiana is now three
and sixteen. All three of their wins have come in
the friendly confines of game bridge Fieldhouse Pascal siakam with
twenty four points. He had eleven rebounds in the game
plus two steals and an assist. I'm Brendan Gang Network Indiana.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
Welcome back everyone. You know we have a championship crowned.
Earlier today South put them won the single A cascade,
beating for when Bishop Lewis twenty nine to fourteen to
win the three A Championship with me Brian Jennings from
THESAA champions Radio Network on the analyst position for this

(13:18):
radio broadcast. Brian, thanks so much for the call. What
an impressive win for the Cascade Cadets today.

Speaker 6 (13:26):
Yeah, they played well obviously playing against the club like Lures,
and you know, you get a state championship, you can't complain,
especially when you beat.

Speaker 5 (13:33):
A program like Lures.

Speaker 6 (13:34):
And just like in the five Day game, that was
a great five A game as well. That was the
one that I was part of, and just an exciting
day all the way around for football in Indiana.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
You were part of the new pal Merrillville win. Correct,
I misspoke? I had you in the three A. Hey,
how impressive is it? Yeah? How to me, this is
one of the most impressive accomplishments a school can have.

Speaker 7 (13:57):
To bump up.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
You win the four A championship year ago, you come back,
you pump up to five A and you win that
in impressive fashion. That is a tremendous accomplishment. I don't
care who you are.

Speaker 6 (14:10):
Yeah, that's no question. You know, Kyle Ralph, I think
was as proud of that as anything else. In the postgame,
you know, conversation he had with us along the network
with Kurt Darling, and the one thing I you know,
he reiterated that too. He said, look, you know it's
a year round program. We knew the challenge ahead of
us coming up, and for them to come out and
win it this year and five a after winning it
four a year ago, you got to tip your hat

(14:31):
to him and this program because obviously that's a heck
of a feat.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
It is, and it's you know, they do it in
New Pal fashion. They just they dominate you up front.
They're relentless and how they approach this thing.

Speaker 6 (14:45):
Yeah, you know, but it was a great game. I
mean it was seventeen a piece going into the fourth quarter,
and you know, like Paul Condreyan mentioned to you, you know,
when Michael Hill gets hurt late in that first half
for Maryville, the tie changed. And you know, you ask
any coach along the way, they'll tell you, you know, you
you always need a little luck, and you know, I
think for Newpal the injury to Hill really was the
luck that they needed. And you know, you got to

(15:06):
kip your hat to Maryville. They had a great game
plan and DJ Bowles came in as a backup quarterback
and you know, he didn't even have any stats listed
in the program in terms of you know, the quarterback numbers,
so he didn't get a lot of time, but he did.

Speaker 5 (15:19):
He came in, he threw a fifty five.

Speaker 6 (15:20):
Yard touchdown fast first drive. He was in the game
and Maryville battle tonight with Newpal. But in the end,
New Pal, you know, took advantage of the fourths in
long situation, got it back deep in Maryville territory for
a score and tacked on another score. And you know, coach,
when you can run the ball like Newpal does, right,
you get a lead, right, they're going to try to
bleed you to dusk.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
Again. They just you know, you look at the success
Kyle Raffs teams have had. It's astonishing what they've been
able to do during his era at Newpal.

Speaker 6 (15:53):
Yeah, what fourteen losses in thirteen years. I mean, you know,
they gave him up five points a game on average
this year and to win it in four a last year,
five a this year, five straight, you know, five state
titles for the football program in that time and just
a heck of an accomplishment. I was impressed with the
way that they played the game. I mean, they were

(16:13):
very you could just how they were fundamentally sound and
they didn't do anything flashy. They didn't do anything, you know, fancy.
They just came out and played good old fashioned football.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
Brian Jennings from the IHSA champions Radio Network, Long Day, Brian,
I appreciate the call. He has the five A Championship.
Newpal wins it over Mirraville. Drive safely and thanks for
being with me.

Speaker 6 (16:37):
All righty coach, We'll talk to you soon.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
I'll look forward to it. More on this game. From
Andrew Smith from the New Palestine Radio Network. All the
things I've said, all the superlegies I've tossed out, I
would echo again. It is just an astonishing accomplishment for
the Dragons and what they've been able to put together

(17:01):
during the Kyle Ralph Hera.

Speaker 8 (17:04):
Yeah, and especially five state championships the last twelve years,
which ties Bishop Shatard for the most state titles in
that span. And what this program does, it's just it's
a machine every year. But it's a program that's built
in the weight room, and it starts in December of

(17:27):
every year. And this has been a twelve month process
that as soon as they walked off the field against
Eastnoble last year with a state championship trophy, the work
began for this year because they knew that the challenge
was going to be much greater this season, and no
team in IHSA history since the All Attorney began has

(17:47):
beaten a ranked team in every single round of the
tournaments and until now. And you know, Nishall went through
number ten, Whitefield, number two, Cathedral number criminally underrated East
Central team and then number three and number five the
last two weeks. And you know, the thing that has
impressed me about this team is that they've got guys

(18:10):
going two ways. This is a four A sized roster,
yet they have worn teams down. They won tonight in
a fourth quarter outscoring Merylville twenty.

Speaker 5 (18:19):
One to nothing.

Speaker 8 (18:21):
Last night or last week, they dominated Bloomingham South of
the week before against the Central, a game was tied
six to six going into the fourth quarter and they
won that game twenty to six and they put them away.
It was it's just been very impressive how this team
gets better as the game goes on. And again it
was New Pal's defense that won it. And understand, Merylville's

(18:44):
quarterback unfortunately gets hurt and that makes a big difference
in the second half. But yeah, because he is a guy,
Michael Hill just extends plays and can do so much
and throws a great ball. But DJ Bowls played a
really good game in his stead. But certainly Merrilville was
a little bit more limited offensively and Newpal took advantage

(19:06):
of that. But Newpal's defense has been really, really solid
all year. They've allowed seventy seven points the entire season,
and the number one the varsity defense only allowed six
touchdowns and fourteen games, and that started with you know,
the defensive lineman, the Rock Brownfield and eight walling of
the tackles in their linebackers Garrett Range, Josh Rains and

(19:27):
Evan Walker to as sophomore played a lot, a lot
more than he normally does, and he ended up with
a big play of the game. Really it was two
big plays. Josh Rains looks like his cousin Charlie Spiegel.
In the fourth quarter, with the game tied at seventeen,
he comes in for an injured Caten Jacobia and Josh
is the guy who's a.

Speaker 5 (19:45):
Twenty two hundred yard rusher last year.

Speaker 8 (19:47):
Has kind of stepped back and played more defense this year.
Comes in, looks like his cousin Charlie Spiegel, breaks three tackles,
runs right through several guys and scores a touchdown, and
then the sophomore Evan Walker makes a big play to
force a fourth down stop that sets up another touchdown.
And then Andrew Davis, another sophomore, of an interception that

(20:09):
sets up another one. And tonight Kate and Jacobia Jacob
Davis both run for one hundred yards. The last time
the Dragons had two hundred yard rushers last year's state
championship game against East Nobles. So they're getting it done
with a lot of different players, a lot of weapons,
and in winning the lines of scrimmage on both sides
of the ball. And that's why they've been successful. That's

(20:29):
why they've won twenty eight straight games. And now Joining
Cathedral is the only team to win in four A
move up due to the success factor, and then win
five A the next year. And this is of the
five championships, this is their third in Class five A,
and again this is a mid size for a public school.
It's just really impressive what Kyle Ralph has been able

(20:51):
to do and the culture that this team has built,
and it just continues to feed on feed on itself,
and because of that, they've been able to sustain the
success they have often punching well above their weight class
in the state tournament.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
That's well put. I know it's been fun for you
as you've been been a partner this whole run. You
might have the best get going quite frankly, Andrew.

Speaker 8 (21:17):
It's fun to watch for certain that before we before
I go, I want to congratulate Connor Simmons, a New
Pal grad, former student of mine, leading Cascade. My wife
alma mater do a state championship as well. I know
that community is really really excited. Yeah, I'm really happy
for Connor as well. He's somebody that has always been
part of the New Pal family and it's it was

(21:39):
really special to see him win. Before the Dragons won
tonight and and his his Cascade team, which was just
fantastic to watch them play as well.

Speaker 5 (21:48):
They were a lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (21:50):
Andrew Smith from the New Pal Radio Network. Andrew, thanks
as always, have a great weekend. Thank you so much
for the call. Thank you, coach, You're welcome. Thank you
coming up. We have more football to talk about. So
now you set the stage for you and tomorrow you

(22:11):
know you have we had these games. Obviously, this was
one three and five day today, so tomorrow the two
A championship, Will Pitt and Ran against Brownstown Central forwen
Bishop Dwinger ticks on Ron Colly for the four championship
and the six A crown the matchup between Brownsburg and Westfield.

(22:36):
Goboard update with Brendan King than We're back on Indiana
Sports Talk.

Speaker 2 (23:04):
This Indiana Sports Talk scoreboard update is brought to you

Think outside the Box store Quality Supply and Tool dot Com.

Speaker 3 (23:16):
I'm Brending Jang with this network Indiana scoreboard update here
on Indiana Sports Talk. Last couple updates of the night.
We're going to recap everything we saw on day one
of the IHSAA football State Finals and we will set
the table for day two on this Thanksgiving weekend in
downtown Indianapolis. Earlier this morning, it was South Putnam taking

(23:38):
care of Pioneer fifty five twenty nine, South Putnam's first
state title since nineteen eighty six, and it was a
historical offensive day as well for Chuck Sorel's team. Seven
different players scored touchdowns this morning and afternoon for South Putnam.
That's the most ever by a single team and an

(23:59):
IAA football State Championship game. The Mental Attitude Award winner
from Class A was Micah Rans, the quarterback or pioneer.
In Class three A, Cascade beat Fort Wayne Bishop Luers
twenty nine to fourteen, holding off the possibility of Lures,
winning their thirteenth football state title. For Cascade, the best

(24:22):
they had ever finished in a football season was the
sectional title in nineteen ninety two, their first time champion
in a football state championship setting. Big congratulations to Cascade,
as their quarterback Brady Tremley was the Mental Attitude Award winner.
We'll talk about Class five A at eleven forty five. We'll
also tell you about the matchups coming up starting tomorrow

(24:44):
morning from Lucas Oil Stadium. Again, it has gone final
in the Bucket Game, Indiana blasting Purdue fifty six to three,
Hoosiers on their way to the Big Ten Title game.
Indiana running for three hundred and fifty five yards on
the ground as a team and five rush touchdown.

Speaker 9 (25:09):
Nathaniel Finch with you on the IHSA champions Network and
Network Indiana and with me now is the head coach
of the Westfield Shamrocks. Josh miracle in your second year.
First of all, thank you for the time building one
heck of a team here and now you're back to
the state title game two consecutive years playing a Giant
in Brownsburg. Just tell me about the season so far,

(25:31):
another really special year in just such a short amount
of time at head coach.

Speaker 10 (25:35):
Yeah, I think, you know, a lot of credit still
goes back to my mentor you know, Jay Gilbert.

Speaker 7 (25:40):
I mean, he's put a foundation in place, and.

Speaker 10 (25:42):
I think that shows, you know, just his legacy and
our staff too. That's you know, really just poured in
just so many hours and just so thankful for them
over the course of the last two years to work
hard and not let complacency set in. And you know,
this team has really developed to be, you know, quite
a mature team with certainly some games in there with

(26:02):
showing some resilience and you know, you learn that as
a coach to every team is.

Speaker 7 (26:06):
A little bit different.

Speaker 10 (26:07):
And I think the process, you know, what we want
to do at the Corps has allowed us to you know,
be successful here and yeah, I think we're just grateful
to be back here and hopefully get another you know
chance here on the big stage.

Speaker 9 (26:20):
You have a lot of key contributors in this run game,
but especially Deacon King, what a season he's had. How
well Aiden Grabowski has played a quarterback and running the
ball as well. Just tell me about this system that
you know, you just seem to be able to find
so many guys that fit it so well.

Speaker 10 (26:36):
Yeah, I think it's a credit to having great players.
It really starts in the weight room with Coach Henson.
I mean, he does a phenomenal job of just developing
our kids. And then I think, you know Deacon and
Aiden and you know Baylor getting torn in the mix
there too. You know, they have really you know, provided
a spark in the running game. But it still all
starts up front with the big guys, uh, you know,

(26:57):
and I know coach Bertron and you know the line staff.
They do an awesome job developing those guys up front,
and that, you know, allows us to be successful. And
then you know, I just credit coach Slicker with the
creativity and and just the way he's been able to manage,
you know, using two quarterback system, I think that's extremely challenging,
especially when one quarterback's right handed and one's left, you know,

(27:19):
and they both have different skill sets there, but just
so proud of them also embracing it and having them
just a you know, hard of selflessness to really be
excited for one another, you know, having success too.

Speaker 9 (27:30):
It's the head coach of Westfield against Brownsburg and six
a a big tilt for the Shamrocks. This is the
fourth trip to the title game since COVID but the
last time you won the state titled twenty sixteen. What
would it mean just to break through and finally get
over that hump?

Speaker 7 (27:48):
Yeah, thank you.

Speaker 10 (27:49):
We've been on a good run here and getting the
state game, you know, four of the past six years.
But obviously we're we're looking to break through and I
think it would be you know, just a sign that
that we're continuing to grow and we want to be considered,
you know, one of the elite programs here in the state.
And we just have a ton of respect, you know
for Brownsburg and the program coach Hartflet's out there and
you know they've been kind of the top of the HCC.

Speaker 7 (28:11):
So you know, we're looking forward with the.

Speaker 10 (28:13):
Matchup again and you know we're trying to learn and
like we say too, you never want to lose the
same way twice, so you know, you learn from these
different experiences being here and you hope to put your
best foot forward to come you know Saturday.

Speaker 9 (28:25):
Well, Brownsburg's has your number the last couple of games,
but it's been so close, right, You've got to feel
like you are right there and ready. All it takes
is maybe one or two more plays.

Speaker 10 (28:35):
Yeah, I think that's the name of the last couple
of games, right, a few explosive plays or maybe an
air here and there that you'd like to have back.
But that's also a credit to their staff. You know,
they can coach too, and you know that's what you
want with two good teams. It come down in probably
a one possession game, and you know, hopefully we put
ourselves in that you know situation again here we've been
working hard and you know that area and just delivering

(28:56):
the clutch moments, and you know, we'll see how Saturday,
you know, shape out.

Speaker 9 (29:00):
What does the focus and practice look like.

Speaker 10 (29:03):
You know, I think this team has been very mature
where they've just kind of embraced our habits. You know,
we're constantly going to be an out loud and you
know at work type of culture and you know the
game itself is maybe a little bit different with the
things that surround it, but the execution of it and
the preparation, you know, is going to be similar in
a lot of ways.

Speaker 7 (29:21):
So yeah, I think we understand.

Speaker 10 (29:22):
You still got to get into the game and win
the takeaway battle, and you know, last time around, we
you know, lost a couple of the explosive play battles.
So we're gonna have to share some things up there,
you know, and just convert in the red zone and
on special teams as well.

Speaker 9 (29:35):
It's the head coach, Josh Miracle of Westfield coach good
luck against Brownsburg.

Speaker 7 (29:39):
Thank you than I appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (29:41):
Nathaniel Finch with Josh Miracle, the head football coach at
Westfield taking on Brownsburg for the six eight championship tomorrow
night at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Bulldogs won that one
last year, and congrats to both coaches and teams. Hard

(30:04):
it's hard to do. It's hard to win a championship.
It's hard to battle for a couple of years in
a row. That's an accomplishment. Have been great games that
have been played already throughout the day. Our congratulations to
South Putnam for their one A championship win over Pioneer

(30:26):
twenty excuse me, fifty five to twenty nine. Congratulate the
cadets of Cascade High School they beat for when Bishop
Leures twenty nine to fourteen. And as you just heard,
the five A Championship goes to New Palestine, they are
thirty eight seventeen winners over Maryville. So the matchup tomorrow
is and Duran taking on Brownstown Central for the two

(30:52):
A Championship, followed by the four A Championship between for
Bishop Dwinger and Ron Collie. And as the we mentioned,
Brannsburg will play Westfield for the sixth eight title. Okay,
Brendan King, Brendan King on the two eight championship matchup,
you're getting excited. You don't need you only need three
or four hours of sleep right at your age, You

(31:13):
don't need, you don't need sleep.

Speaker 3 (31:15):
No, absolutely, we're ready to go. And any any leftover
turkey has already been eaten, so that won't make me
more ties on it. So we should be good to
go now. How can you not get jacked up for
this one? Coach, I'm excited about it. We're gonna beat
on a bunch of different great radio stations around the state.
We'll have an all star crew, myself, Jim Leisure, Chris Lowry,
of course the great Scottie Johnson is an onside engine.

(31:38):
All done, We're ready to roll, Coach, We're ready to go.

Speaker 1 (31:41):
All right now, I've this is the thirty second year
I've done high school football on the show, thirty second championship.
I'm excited, obviously, and uh, you know we have uh
we have we uh you know, we have time. We
have time to go, and so I'm excited about your

(32:03):
opportunity to do that. And uh, next weekend we'll be
high school basketball. And I am for that. I haven't
told you this. We haven't talked about this. This is
a surprise to you. I am. I'm resurrecting a job
title that I had retired. Okay, I'm gonna bestow upon

(32:24):
you when you do basketball next weekend, You're gonna be
introduced as the foundation of the sports talk nation. You
have you have that was reserved specifically and uniquely for
mister Michael Grady. So we're we're bringing that that title back.
I'm honored and bestowing it upon you.

Speaker 3 (32:47):
I'm honored. Hey, any time you're mentioned in the same
sentence as Michael Grady. That's that's greatness, coach.

Speaker 1 (32:54):
So I'm honored. You guys are superstars. I'm just dude.
I'm along for the allright, That's what I am. I am.
I'm stealing money. I'm just still along for the ride.
So it's fun. I think it's all. It's all fun.
Quite frankly, Let's talk a little high school basketball. David

(33:18):
Deanon wkl AH right, David Dean, Lanesville beats court in Central?
Is that no? It's court in Central seventy eight thirty
one over lanes Hill. Is it give me the score?
Will you?

Speaker 5 (33:33):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (33:33):
No?

Speaker 8 (33:34):
Probably couch. Yes, it's core. It in Central seventy eight,
Lanesville thirty one.

Speaker 1 (33:37):
Tonight.

Speaker 8 (33:38):
It was the home opener for the Panthers tonight after
winning at Seymour Tuesday night.

Speaker 1 (33:45):
That's an explosive basketball team. Seventy eight points. That's that's impressive.

Speaker 8 (33:51):
Yeah, the Panthers were humming tonight. Coach shot the ball
really well from the floor, ended up making thirteen out
of twenty one from behind the arc tonight, and shot
all the way around. Found a well tonight, sixty two
percent shooting in total on thirty of forty seven, and
they just overwhelmed Lanesville really. First quarter, it was close
there for a couple of minutes, but the Panthers were

(34:11):
able to push the gap out to eighteen to four
at the end of the first quarter, and then in
the second Lanesville made it more competitive, but it was
still forty to nineteen by halftime, and then third quarter.
The Panthers just hit the Eagles with a title wave
at home twenty six to five and put the running
clock on from then on out. But Corydon had eight

(34:32):
guys in their main rotation all scored tonight. Jack Fessel,
the senior wing for the Panthers, led the way with
twenty four points tonight and an impressive rivalry win against Lanesville.

Speaker 1 (34:43):
David Deaton, I wish I had more time. I appreciate
you taking time to call me. Cordon, Central Beach, Lanesville,
seventy eight thirty one, David Deton, Thanks have a great weekend.

Speaker 8 (34:55):
Thank you coach you as well.

Speaker 2 (35:15):
This Indiana Sports Talk scoreboard update is brought to you
by Quality Supply and Tool in Indianapolis, Bloomington, Jefferson, Villa, Lafayette,
Think outside the Box Store Quality Supply and tool dot Com.

Speaker 1 (35:27):
What's up.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
I'm Brendan King with this network Indiana scoreboard update here
on Indiana Sports Talk. At eleven thirty, we recapped the
one A and three A state championship games, which went
to South Putnam Cascade respectively. The five A state title
New Palestine again the Dragons onward to their fifth state
title since twenty fourteen, defeating Maryville thirty eight to seventeen.

(35:49):
And that's a game where Maryville was in front first
by a touchdown, then newpal answered on a forty yard
touchdown strike and then from there it was all Dragons
thirty eight to seventeen. Newpal's gone back to back, winning
last year as a four A school, this year is
a five A school and they swept the board. The
Mental Attitude Award winner also came from newpal with Abe

(36:10):
Walling taking home that award. So that now sets us up.
We're halfway through three more ballgames coming up tomorrow, starting
with Class two A eleven AM all the Call four
and the IHSAA Champions Network along with Jim Leisure of
Andrean and Brownstown Central Andrean at twelve and one. Brownstown

(36:31):
Central is fourteen and Ozer. Remember that two A slate
the final four, there were three undefeated teams and Drayan
has the chance to be the only team with one
loss in that final four to go on and win
the championship. That would be quite the storyline. Four A
three PM fort Wayne Bishop Dwinger at twelve and two

(36:51):
meets the illustrious Ron College at eleven and three, and
then it's the rivalry game at seven o'clock. In six A,
the Rocks of Field at eleven and two meet Brownsburg,
the Bulldogs at thirteen and zero, and the defending champion
of six A. Enjoy these next three will recap them
all for you tomorrow night. Right here on I two.

Speaker 1 (37:20):
Six A championship game between Brownsburg and Westfield coming up tomorrow.
Nathaniel Finch had a chance to talk to John Hart
from Brownsburg. Here's a conversation.

Speaker 9 (37:31):
You've been here before quite a bit actually, but with
Brownsburg second time in a row, you've you've just found
a way to build a dominant program. It's been really
impressive what has worked over these last couple of years
to establish Brownsburg is now a national powerhouse.

Speaker 4 (37:48):
I think the number one thing we do is what
we do in the off season. Brian Niese is our
strength coach, does an incredible job. Casey Popinfos Doubles is
my defensive coordinator and he's the hit track coach, so
he's also our speed coach. And then we're just really structured.
And you know, we talked to our kids all the
time about commitment and competing. If you do those two things,

(38:12):
then everything else takes care of itself. And our kids
do it. We do it two hundred kids strong. There's
not very many programs with two hundred kids.

Speaker 9 (38:21):
And this year competing and committing certainly at a high level,
undefeated heading into this game against Westfield, and you've seen
a lot of football, right forty one seasons as a
head coach. What makes this specific group so special?

Speaker 4 (38:36):
You know, I think anytime we've had a state championship team,
we've had great quarterback play. Not only great quarterbacks, but
great quarterback play. You know, when we won our first
one at Rights, Paul McIntosh was mister football.

Speaker 7 (38:53):
You know, it's a pretty good way to win, you know.

Speaker 4 (38:57):
And then we got to Warren Central and Eric Hart
was our quarterback, pretty darn good quarterback, and we won
a state championship, and then Oscar Frye has been a
starting quarterback the last two years. He shared it with
Josuas Stevens last year, but we've had great quarterback play
and we're back in the state championship. So I think

(39:17):
that elite level allows you to win games that maybe
other teams couldn't get done with the same.

Speaker 9 (39:25):
Talent, And it certainly helps when you have a high
powered running back aiden job the season. He's putting up
almost fifteen hundred yards and twenty touchdowns. That's got to
take a lot of pressure off of fry as.

Speaker 1 (39:35):
Well, you know.

Speaker 4 (39:37):
And we kind of do our running backs like we
did our quarterbacks last year. He's our main running back,
but we didn't know that going into the year. Covon
Sumter Bay is a special athlete. Brady Lewis rotates in
there a lot and plays several downs, but aj has
been a special treat. To break his ankle and dislocate

(39:58):
it before the season started last year in preseason, and
to come back and have this kind of year is
pretty special.

Speaker 9 (40:06):
It's the head coach of Brownsburg High School, John Hart,
and his tenth year with the Bulldogs and trying to
do something that's already been done once at Brownsburg back
to mac state titles. What would that mean to bring
the fourth back to that Bulldog community?

Speaker 4 (40:19):
Everything. Our support is just incredible. We'll have six thousand
people at every high school game. It can be a
bad game, it can be a good game, it can
be you know.

Speaker 1 (40:30):
So that's that's.

Speaker 4 (40:31):
Phenomenal in itself. When we have a homecoming parade, it
looks like a mini Rose Bowl parade in our student body.
If you ever get to see a high school game,
come to Brownsburg High School on our Friday night and
watch two thousand kids absolutely love and have passion for

(40:55):
its school. It's uncommon and it's needed in today's world
where everybody, you know, everybody has everybody's back, and it's
special there. They don't care about where they came from
or how they got there.

Speaker 1 (41:11):
It's just as soon as.

Speaker 4 (41:12):
You put on the purple and white, you're pretty special.

Speaker 9 (41:15):
It's the head coach John Hart of the Brownsburg Bulldogs.
You've gotten the hang of Josh Miracle led Westfield team
over the last couple of years. You see him again,
you know these last few times you faced them, including
in the title game last year. Five four point wins.
These are always close, kind of gritty games. What are
your expectations for this one?

Speaker 4 (41:34):
Well, Josh Miracle and his staff is one of the
best staffs in the state. There's a lot for as
long as I've been coaching, that's that's how a high level.
And he's even a better person.

Speaker 7 (41:47):
So, you know, fifty one.

Speaker 4 (41:50):
I'm always rooting maybe fifty one weeks out of the year,
and now it's fifty I guess because you want good
guys to do good things, and he definitely is those people.
His teams are so well prepared. They're the best defense.
There's other teams just as talented as them, and some
that even have more talent, but they're so disciplined. They

(42:12):
created so many problems for us last.

Speaker 1 (42:14):
Year and this year. Welcome back, everybody. This is Network
Indiana's Indiana's Sports Talk. Coming up tomorrow. We have three

(42:36):
championship games, as we did today. A man who'll be
working one of those. The two A championship between Andrea
and and Brownstown Central, Brendan King. Brendan King, how many
state championships? Now? Will this be tomorrow for you?

Speaker 3 (42:52):
This will be number five? Coach, and it's kind of
full circle.

Speaker 1 (42:55):
Befare the time going?

Speaker 3 (42:56):
I know, seriously. My first one was in twenty twenty
one when Andrein took down evans Ville Modern day, and
of course tomorrow is going to be Andreine against Brownstown Central,
so kind of full circle. And it always always is
a pleasure to work with Jim Leisure, who has been
my broadcast partner for nearly all of them. Jim and
I have worked together for years and years, whether it's

(43:17):
state championships or the game of the week on the
fan in Indie or or Indiana State football and all
kinds of places. So he's a great partner. And I'll
tell you what, he makes my life easy because that
guy is a walking encyclopedia of football.

Speaker 1 (43:31):
He's no, he's really good. He is very good. So
you're all st you're ready to go for the for
the matchup, it's uh Brownstown Central, Andrean you're gonna get
to see the single wing. Yeah, you call your dad,
ask your dad about the single wing. I'm sure he
can talk about it. Oh that's back from back from
his day.

Speaker 3 (43:51):
I wish my dad's dad was still with us. I
he can probably tell me everything about it, right, because
that was back in his a day too, So yeah, yeah,
no doubt it's going to be a black from the past.
But as mentioned coach, you know, you see that and
you think Brown's sounds central. Boy, you know somebody must say, boy,
they must be a one trick bony right. Well, oddly enough,
Brownstown has thrown more pass attempts on the season than

(44:12):
Andrean has. So just when you think that Brownstown is
just gonna run it, you know, if they get into trouble,
they can sling it a little bit too. So that's
why I think tomorrow is gonna be a heck of
a ball game.

Speaker 1 (44:20):
Coach to lead tomorrow, I don't I don't want to
tell you how to you know, I don't want to
tell you what to say on the broadcast because I'm
a basketball coach by trade. But tomorrow is one of
those assignment football type things. When you talk to football coaches,
it's one of these things that you know you have
assignments is on the defensive side, and you have to

(44:41):
follow those assignments because this is uh, this is a
contrarian type of offense that you don't see very often,
and it's hard to prepare in one week. If you
get away from your responsibilities, and and that's one of
this I'm sure that's gonna be one of the points
of emphasis. I'm sure that Jim will cover that at

(45:03):
length during the broadcast. It's just two teams that have
great histories, as Browntown Central has had such underread May,
They've been one of the perennial, perennial successful football programs
in our state, and they just have not been to
this point before. It's their first chance to win a championship,

(45:23):
and Andrean has a pretty story history. I think people
understand that. So there are a lot of dynamics going
on when that game's over, I think is the next
one that dwinger on Colie meshef. Two teams are mirror
images of one another, which I think will be great.
And I'm not sure there I have enough. Even though
I think I have a command of the language, I

(45:44):
can't think of enough superlatives to talk about the Six
Day Championships. So Brenda King, thanks so much, great job,
Ethan Patterson, the best way to go, Thanks so much
to our great stations around the state, and thanks for
thirty one years you've made the most listen to sports
talk Showness it's history. It is the history making Legendary
