Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back everyone. This is Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk
on Bob Lovell. Coming up. More high school football, more
college football and basketball right now though, enough of me,
more of the star of our show. Now, we're Indiana's
Brendan King.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
All right, coach, great to be with you and Caleb,
and let's get right to it. As five of the
six matchups for next weekend at Lucas Oil Stadium, the
IHSAA Football State Finals are officially set. The only game
that we do not know needs one more half filled.
That's three A Gibson Southern We'll take on Cascade tomorrow.
(00:39):
That will be a seven o'clock kickoff at Cascade and
the winner of that game will be greeted by Fort
Wayne Bishop Leures in downtown Indianapolis next weekend. After Lures
shut out Miles McLaughlin and Knox tonight, thirty five nothing
for McLachlin, the new all time leading rusher in the
(01:00):
state of Indiana. His career is over and he comes
up just short of the all time national rushing record,
which will continue to be held by Derrick Henry of
the Baltimore Ravens. Again. Three A set officially tomorrow. Other
than that, we know all of our matchups, so let's
dive right into them, starting with Class A for the
(01:22):
first time since twenty eighteen, Pioneer. We'll be back in
a state championship game. Pioneer defeating South Adams tonight thirty
one to fourteen. Their opponent for next Friday, South Putnam,
who handled Myland forty to seven. Great run for Milan
in the tournament, making it to semi state, knocking off
the defending champion in regional that was Providence, but their
(01:44):
road comes to an end. It'll be Pioneer in South
Putnam next weekend. Last two way heading back to the
state title once again, first time since twenty twenty two.
The Andrean fifty nine ers twenty four to nineteen Andrey
and over previously unbeaten Adam Central and in the battle
of the unbeaten tonight from two A, Brownstown Central got
(02:05):
the job done against Lapel thirty one to twenty one.
So Andrean ended one perfect season potentially tonight. Can they
do it again next weekend as they'll meet Brownstown Central
in Class four A, one of two teams heading down
from the two six to zero we mentioned Fort Wayne
Bishop Blers now It's Fort Wayne Dwanger twenty eight seven
winners against South Bend Saint Joe. Dwanger's opponent for next
(02:28):
weekend will be Ron Colli the Royals going back to
the state championship for the first time since twenty twenty.
Ron Colly forty two Heritage Hills fourteen. It's Ron Colly
and Dwanger next weekend. Class five A Maryville took care
of Concord forty one to fourteen. Maryville's next job maybe
one of the toughest in the state, trying to beat
(02:49):
New Palestine the Dragons forty two Bloomington South Nothing tonight. Lastly,
in Class six A, the defending champions Brownsburg. We'll have
a chance to repeat The Bulldogs blank Warren Central thirty
one zip. Brownsburg versus Westfield next weekend, it's the Rocks
thirty five Carol Fort Wayne fourteen Westfield in Brownsburg. They
(03:12):
know all about each other and they will greet each
other next weekend. College basketball Perdue playing a late game
for the Baja Mar Championship. The Boilers scored twenty points
in a row and closed the first half on a
twenty three to three run. They're off to a six
to zero run in the second half, and they lead
Number fifteen Texas Tech fifty five twenty six in the game,
(03:36):
all with ten points. Scoring has been very balanced for Purdue.
Trey Coffin, Wren CJ. Cox, Fletcher Lawyer all with ten points.
Braydon Smith has scored eight with six assists for the
Butler Bulldogs seventy nine to seventy two. Butler handles South
Carolina today at the Greenbriar tip off. Butler's four to one.
They got a double double from Michael Ojai, the transfer
(03:58):
from Gonzaga fifteen points. It's fourteen boards. Butler will take
on Virginia on Sunday after Virginia beat Northwestern earlier today
for IU, Indy falling to Alabama State one hundred and
one to eighty. The Jags are two and five. Let's
talk some Pacers Tonight, the Pacers lose to the Cavaliers
(04:18):
one hundred and twenty to one hundred and nine. It
was an NBA Cup Group play game. Pacers fall to
two and thirteen on the season, but because the Pacers
went oh to two in NBA Cup play, they will
not make it to the knockout round. You may remember
last year, they made it to the finals of that
NBA Cup, losing in Vegas to the Lakers. That will
not be the case this year, as the Pacers are
(04:39):
h to nine on the road. I'm Brendan King.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Welcome back everyone. This is Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk.
Throughout the remainder of the night, we're gonna update you
on matchups for next weekend state finals and football, and
remind you that we have a game tomorrow three, a
battle between Gifts and Southern in Cascade. I mentioned it
(05:03):
on an interview I did earlier today that I was
in high school at Plainfield when Cascades started their program,
and I remember playing them in their first year. I
remember that we won sizably. But uh, you know, I
just I don't know why that clicked. You know, I'm
(05:26):
happy for them, and they've done a fantastic job, and
I think the game tomorrow would give some Southern. It's
gonna be a tremendous, tremendous matchup. So all right, Brendan King,
what's up with the Boilers? Give me give me a rundown?
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Well, what do you want to know? First? The twenty
unanswered points are the closing the first half on the
twenty three three run. They're on an eight to zero
run to start the second out there pounding number fifteen
Texas Tech coach, it's fifty seven to twenty six from
Baja mar.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Well, you know what that's That's as it ought to be.
I want you to hold that thought because I want
to talk to Steve Cole from WAXL Steve Cole, what
is going on tonight?
Speaker 3 (06:08):
Well, long trip and it didn't go well for the
Herita Chills Patriots tonight.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
Coach.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
I saw that score and I agonized for all of you.
I was you know, I understand it. I just did
not go well. You've had a tremendous year. I think
one of the hardest things is to have to say
goodbye to a senior class that's been pretty productive and
had great success. That's always the hardest part of everything
(06:40):
when you do this, and as long as I've done
it and been in that kind of situation. So just
it's a tough, tough night. Ron Collie gets you forty
two to fourteen for Ron Callie forty two to fourteen
over Hardy Chills. Ron Colly is a solid team top
to bottom. They're very, very well put to together and
(07:01):
it's a I think Steve and you saw him obviously
up close and personal. They've literally gotten better every single solitary.
We can continue to get better.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
Yeah, they played very well tonight and don't want to
take anything away from Ron Salley because they proved that
on this particular night they were the better team without question.
But it was such a bizarre football game with so
many weird things that happened, and huh more times than
(07:32):
not winning Ron Colly's favor that it was just kind
of you know, I've been doing this for twenty eight
years or more, Bob, I haven't seen too many games
with weird bounces and things like this. Ron Colley had
great opening drive, scored on the first drive of the game,
(07:52):
went up seven nothing, got up fourteen, nothing in the
second half or in the second quarter. But to do so,
they had a situation where on a rainy night, the
quarterback Colin ash took a shotgun snap, wanted to throw
the football, hitched like he was going to throw the
ball came out of his hands backward.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
Ye never hit the ground.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
He picked it up out of the air. Two harided
chills defenders came out of coverage because they saw the
ball go up in the air and Ash was able
to reset his feet and find a guy wide open
who ended up going thirty seven yards for a touchdown.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
Wow, that was just one.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
Of the weird things there were, you know, there were
several others, but the absolute backbreaker because Hair to Chills,
after getting down fourteen nothing without play, came back and
righted the ship, mounted a long scoring drive of their
own to score before halftime with eighteen seconds to go
in the half to get within fourteen seven, and Hair died.
Chills had the ball to start the second half, and
(08:56):
we were talking on the air this is you know,
the Hairtage got themselves their feet back under themselves and
seven men they can start to play a better brand
of football here in the second half, the opening kickoff
appeared like it was going to head out of bounds
across the left sideline. They heard it Sells kick returner
(09:18):
on that side, back or running back named Charson Punt
went over there. He tried to pull up at the
last minute, seeing that ball was going to go out
of bounds, and when he pulled up, he evidently blew
out his knee and crumple to a keep on the
ground at the eleven yard line. The ball hit right
underneath him and some have managed to not hit him,
(09:41):
bounced up in the air less than a yard from
the sideline and stayed in play, and Ronn Colly's gunners
were able to come down and cover it at the
nine yards off.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
I need you, Steve, Steve doing me a fair hang on.
I need you to hang on to the school, Renn.
Can you do that?
Speaker 3 (10:01):
Absolutely?
Speaker 1 (10:02):
All right, We'll come back. We'll talk with Steve Cole.
We'll talk with Josh Miracle, the head coach at Westfield.
We'll talk with Chuck Seorl the coach at South Buttingham.
It's literally a who's who right now. Score for update
with Brendan King. This is Indiana's Sports Talk.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
I'm Brendan King with this network. Indiana scoreboard Update, Huron
Indiana Sports Talk. It is now a thirty ball for
Purdue under twelve time out second half from the Baja
mar Championship. Number one Purdue sixty one, number fifteen Texas
Tech thirty one on the hardwood, and again the scoring
for Purdue as balanced as you can get. Every single
(10:45):
Boiler starter has exactly ten points Trey Kaufman, Rehn oscar Cluff, CJ. Cox,
Brayden Smith, Fletcher Lawyer, all with exactly ten points. Now,
oscar Cluff has got ten rebounds, Braiden Smith got seven assists,
et cetera, et cetera. But as balanced of a ballgame
(11:05):
that you're gonna see and the number one Boilers living
up to that number one ranking. Right now, let's talk
quickly about college football and tomorrow get back to our
high school football scores at eleven thirty and we'll recap
everything we saw from this semi state round of the
IHSAA Football State Tournament Finals coming up next week in
downtown Indianapolis. Again, the Bucket Game comes your way next weekend.
(11:29):
That'll be a Thanksgiving weekend affair up in West Lafayette
for ball state a two o'clock kick, they'll be at Toledo.
The Cardinals struggling last week against Eastern Michigan and in
their final two games of the season. The best they
can get is six wins and a prayer at a
bowl game, but they'll have to get through six and
four Toledo tomorrow on the road. Notre Dame number nine,
(11:52):
Irish at eight and two hosting Syracuse three point thirty
from Notre Dame Stadium. The Irish continue their rise, We'll
try and continue their as that is up the college
football playoff rankings. I'm Brendan King.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
Welcome back everyone. We are rejoined by Steve Cole from
Waxcel down in Santa claus As the Ron Colley forty
two to fourteen win over Heritage Hills. And Steve, it's
a really outstanding display of football by both teams. As
you talked about, quite of a quirky game, lots of
crazy things, but it boils down to Ron Colley was
(12:26):
dominant up front. It seems on both sides of the ball.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
Yeah, and Ron Coley.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
You know, if they got a break or two, which
you know you could argue they did, they do what
good teams do and they took advantage of that and
they turned those into points at every opportunity. Like I
said off the top, they were clearly the better team tonight,
right right, No disputing that they were a very good team.
Hairded Hills. Any shot of the comeback in this one
(12:53):
in the third quarter after they had given up that
early score and then Jet Goldsberry throwing an interception, they
gave another score. We're down what four scores? But they
still had most of the second half to go, but
any shot of a comeback was out the window, and
Goldsberry got hurt on the next possession. He was sacked
re injured that knee that he was still trying to
(13:15):
battle his way back through here. In the last three
or four weeks, he was playing well, but he was
still clearly not anywhere close to one hundred percent. He
did not have the explosion that he had running the
football early in the season most of the season up
until the last well. He hurt that against Rights in
the sectional semifinal game, and from then on while he
(13:38):
continued to play, he was you know, Coach Wilkerson has
said eighty percent of Jet Goldsberry is better than most
everybody else, So they were still happy to have him
out there. But they've got a very good backup quarterback
who will take over next year in Tys Winchel, And
he was very good and reliefed, but that's too much
(13:59):
to ask of him. But final thought on this, Bob,
is what a remarkable run this has been for Heritage Hills,
with this outstanding senior group getting to the three A
state championship as juniors two years ago and losing to Stard,
who has been a stumbling block for Heritage Hills many
(14:22):
many times over the years, too many to count. Coming
back and winning the three A state championship last year
in convincing fashion, getting bumped up to Class four A
by success factor, and I think it's actually something for
Heritagechills to be extraordinarily proud of a public school with
six hundred and thirty eight kids according to the IHSAA
(14:45):
advancing to the Semistate round. That does not happen very often.
I can remember eacht Central doing well bumping up from
four A to five A as a public school, but
it's just when you get to the smaller school, will's
public schools having.
Speaker 4 (15:01):
To bump up.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
It's a remarkably and difficult task. You know, this is
a very good Ron colleague team, but you know that's
a that's a Ron colleague team that you know, the
school that's eleven hundred students, where Hardy Chills has not
quite not quite let's right right of that. So sorry,
I'm not speaking wealthy moment, but it's just a it's
(15:23):
just a remarkable run for Heritage Chills to get back
to the Simi State after being up a class. I
have a lot to be proud of, and you know
they'll they'll lose a great amount of talent off this
senior class, but they'll still have a lot of talent
left to try to make some hay out of four
A next year before they very likely go back down
(15:44):
to where they should be at three A.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
Steve Gold from w A x L on the call
of Ron Colley's forty two fourteen win over Hardy Hills, Steve,
thanks so much, Be safe, have a great weekend. Thanks Bob,
Thank you, Thank you. Westfield going to the six to
eight Championship by virtue of their thirty five to fourteen
win over Fort Wayne. Carol Josh Miracle joins me. Coach,
(16:09):
congratulations to you and your kids on a tremendous win
tonight in the Semi State.
Speaker 5 (16:15):
Thank you, appreciate it. Just really proud of our guys
for handling the road trip up here, and you know, Carol, uh,
just to those of them on a great season as well.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
This has been a resilient group from day one, has
it not?
Speaker 5 (16:29):
It has? I mean, I think you know, we learned
some lessons last year you know, getting a chance to
advance to the state game, and I think, you know,
it's not an easy task and these guys certainly going
a lot throughout the year, every team is a little
bit different. So I think we're hopefully, you know, getting
the best out of these guys at the right time
here and you know, just excited to have one more
way for them.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
That's a great way to put it to coach, all right,
So offensively, you had to be thrilled with how your
kids performed tonight.
Speaker 5 (16:56):
Yeah. I think it always starts up front. They were
much situations score right before the half and then right
out of the half there, so it was a good
fourteen point swing, and you know, I thought our you know,
offensive line really controlled the flow of the game there,
and you know, you have some good runs from ag
Lebowski defon King and Taylor Connor back there. So just
(17:17):
a good combined effort.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
Did you uh, you know, you got that break right
there at halftime, so that was it where you were
able to get the separation and into your defense did
what they needed to do.
Speaker 5 (17:32):
Yeah, I think our defense, uh you know, they forced
four takeaways on the night, so early on was a
little bambit don't break and you know they have some
explosive pieces and you know they've been putting up quite
a few points and everybody so just you know, proud
of our defensive staff or just make its adjustments to
the half and getting our kids in position to see
succeed year of the second half.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
All right, So in your mind, who stepped up and
played well tonight? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (17:57):
I think defensively Logan Loin had a couple picks on
the night. Ree daikis as well. Let me get a
pick and force the fumble. The guys up front on
the D line always do a great job. And then
I think Alex and Wills is extremely active. A couple
of TFLs sat offensive side of things. I thought Aid
the Cooper just shared the work road the quarterback and
(18:18):
led the way of getting the big guys up front.
You know, we have some really good powerful ad Adkon
King here to kind of feel things late.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
All right. Coach, congratulations, Josh Miracle, the football coach at Westfield.
They beat Fort Wayne Carroll thirty five to fourteen tonight
taking on Brownsburg next weekend. Coach, congratulations again and good
luck next week.
Speaker 5 (18:44):
Thank you. Appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
Thank you. Chuck Cerel from South Puttingham joins me. South
Putnham beats Miland forty to seven. Coach, thanks so much
for the call and congratulations on this great thrill and
this win tonight.
Speaker 6 (19:00):
Yeah, you know, this is everything we've been doing since
June finally paid off. And we've we've been talking about,
you know, winning state level championships and you know, the
ultimate goals to go to the state championship, and you know,
finally we've we've made it. We've we've got over the
hump of getting beat by Luther and Luther and Lutheran
then Providence last year. And you know, we showed up
(19:21):
tonight and had a heck.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
Of a night.
Speaker 6 (19:24):
We went all the way to Milan and then got
a big.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
W So beat a good team at their place with
a sizeable win is an impressive, impressive feat tonight.
Speaker 6 (19:36):
Yeah, you know, we got up, we got up six
to nothing early. We missed the extra point and sometimes
that costs you, uh, you know, and they went down
and scored made it seven to six. But our kids,
you know, they got a little chewing out on the
defensive side and and you know, we buckled down, and
you know, everything you do, everything you do in practice,
especially on Thursdays, pays off. We do two minute drill
(19:58):
every Thursday. We got the ball about a minute and
forty seconds. Our offensive team and our offensive coaches, you know,
just executed down and we scored to go up fourteen
to seven and a half. And you know, we got
a good speech at halftime and come out and for
the third straight week, our defense hasn't given up points
in the second half. And you know, half's off because
like you said, we're a good, miling team at third place, right,
(20:21):
you know they're doing that Indian chant. I mean, it's
it's it's a It was a great atmosphere, you know,
and you know it was good enough that it wasn't
good enough that we got a victory.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
I would think this, if you you're able to withstand that,
you deserve to be playing for a championship next week. Now,
tell me tell me who plays well, you know the
driller here, Tell me who stepped up tonight.
Speaker 6 (20:45):
Yeah, yeah, well, I tell you we we were just talking.
We had touchdowns out of six different guys. We had
three receiving touchdowns thrown by Drew Kline. He threw to
Branson in there he sued Blake went and he also
threw a Hayden so three three throwing touchdowns, and then
ty Bitton got a rushing, Brian Cook got a rushing
(21:05):
and then.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
Drew ran for one.
Speaker 6 (21:06):
So you know we were we were all over the board.
When you got six different guys. If you have to
count our football team, that's a fun night. And you
know that's how you get the forty points. And you
know we've been talking. You don't have six thousand offensive
yards if you're not pretty good. I don't get any offense.
Speaker 1 (21:23):
That's right, coach. I've enjoyed all of our conversations. I'm
happy we get to have another one next week. Chuck
from South Putnam coach, congratulations, thanks so much. Thankle South
Puttingham go ahead, thank you go Rigels. There you go,
South Puttingham forty to seven over mile. And we'll come
(21:45):
back and talk with Paul Condrey on Indiana Sports Talk.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
I'm Brendan Keang with this network Indiana scoreboard update here
on Indiana's Sports Talk. Last couple updates of the night,
we're gonna tell you about the IHSAA football State finals
matchups are set except for one level that's three A
because Gibson Southern will face Cascade tomorrow. That will be
a seven o'clock kickoff. However, we do know the opponent
(22:10):
for either of those two teams after that one goes final.
That'll be Fort Wayne Bishop Lures, who shut out Knox
tonight thirty five nothing, ending the high school career for
Indiana's all time leading rusher Miles McLaughlin, who also comes
up just short of Derrick Henry's all time national rushing record.
(22:30):
In Class two AA, that matchup is set with andre
In defeating Adam Central twenty four to nineteen, andre And
handing Adam Central their first loss, and they'll try and
do the same to Brownstown Central, who remains undefeated in
the battle of unbeatens Brownstown Central thirty one, lapel twenty one. Lastly,
Class A Pioneer takes care of South Adams thirty one
(22:51):
to fourteen. Pioneer to the state championship for the first
time since twenty eighteen when Jack Kaiser was their quarterback
who went on to set the Notre Dame all time
record for games played. Now was a Jacksonville Jaguar. Pioneer
meets South Putnam who handled Myland forty to seven. We'll
touch on four A through six A coming up at
eleven forty five. Pacers lose tonight to the Cavaliers one
(23:12):
hundred and twenty to one hundred and nine at NBA
Cup Play. Pacers will not go to the knockout round
of the NBA Cup. When they were in Vegas last
year in the Championship, lost to the Lakers. Pacers are
two and fourteen on the season. Speaking of Vegas, right
now on the strip F one qualifying Fernando Alonso P three.
He ran a couple of eighty five hundreds back in
twenty seventeen and twenty nineteen.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
Welcome back everyone. This is Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk
Merrillville beats Concord forty one to fourteen tonight with me
to talk about that game, plus a lot of other things.
The Hall of Fame Broadcaster It's Paul Condries, Indianana or
Sports Riters is Forcecasters Hall of Fame in the Indiana
(23:54):
Football Hall of Fame. Best friend that football has in
the state of Indiana. Founded the Regional Radio Sports Network,
publisher of the Indiana Football Digest. Paul, what an impressive
win for the Pirates tonight.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
Yeah, it really was bob and sided for brat Seas
and the Maryland community because they were zero for ten
in semi state appearances, which goes back to nineteen ninety two.
So they finally get off the schneid and were able
to pick up a win tonight at home at Demrie Stadium.
(24:30):
Concord jumped out to a seven to nothing lead early.
Marraval was able to bounce back with twenty unanswered points
and ended up winning a football game going away. But
it was all Marravl's defense and all Merravals rushing attack.
As a matter of fact, the Marravo offensive joggernaut, that running.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
Combo of.
Speaker 4 (24:55):
JQ Johnson, Cam Jordan and Michael Hill come buying for
five hundred and nineteen yards washing tonight. Yeah, they just
ran roughshot over Concord tonight. Concord a scrappy, ornery group
under the direction of really one of the great young
(25:16):
coaches in the state and Craig Taylor. They just didn't
have enough guess in to take tonight because this Marriorvale
team defensively kept a very very talented Concord team in check.
Case in point, Concord came into the ballgame averaging about
four hundred and ten yards of offense per ballgame. They
were held to two hundred and forty seven tonight by
(25:38):
the Marorville defense that just played strong enough, events enough,
but never broke. For the most part, they kept the
big plays to a minimum, and I think that's the
main reason that Meryville is advancing to the state championship
game where they're going to be taking on New Palace team.
But it's a it's a Marraorville team that it's loaded
with athletes with skill sets they got, They've got guys
(26:01):
who can play tough in the middle, and it's a
very very talented Maryville football team. They've won ten straight games.
One of the teams that they beat earlier in the
season and ran also at just one point six miles
away from Demrie Stadium. The fifty nine ers are going
to the state championship games, so two teams that played
(26:23):
each other neighbors will be both going to Indianapolis. So
it's going to be an exciting time for the folks
from Meryville, the town of Meryville, as they're sitting two
teams to the state championship game. This upcoming weekend.
Speaker 1 (26:37):
You and your crew are gonna have You're gonna be
on Cloud nine when you get down to Indy. This
is fantastic for all of you.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
Yeah, this is an exciting time. It's always an exciting
time to be able to play indoors. This is our
last outside game of the year, and we don't have
to worry about field conditions. We don't have to worry
about anything but just having some fun.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
PAULK Hendrick Tomorrow all right, Faulk, Andrew and I will
review tonight's games, plus the Gibson Southern and Cascade matchup
and set the stage for the Estate Finals. Paul, as always,
thank you very much. Be safe. We'll talk to you
tomorrow night.
Speaker 4 (27:15):
Thanks Coach Gobus.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
Thank you. Tony Donahue joins me. You guys know, Tony Donahue,
we wouldn't be in this position. We wouldn't be on
the air without Tony Donahue. Tony's from HSATV tonight, Brownstown
Central beats Lapel thirty one to twenty one. Pretty impressive
win for Beattown Central tonight. Tony.
Speaker 7 (27:37):
Yeah, I was just mentioned by our buddy mister King.
There two undefeated teams coming in and this is a
Browntown Central team that was averaging twenty four points in
the first half, and it was rainy conditions, which we
had a lot around Central Indiana. And the opening kick
was an on side kick that bounced off of the
Pel player recovered by Brownstown Central. That leads to the
(27:59):
first touchdown of the nights. They led seven nothing. Lapel
then answered with a Craig touchdown pass to tie it
up at seven. It was seventeen to seven heading the half.
It was a long drive heading in the halftime from
Brownstown Central that lasted over seven and a half minutes
after a seventy six yard touchdown run late in the
(28:20):
first quarter to go up fourteen to seven. They went
in the halftime seventeen to seven, got three points on
that long drive, came back out scored. It was twenty
four to seven, and then the Pel fought back got
it within twenty four fourteen twenty four to twenty one
after a block field goal, and then on a fourth
down try, it was a touchdown pass from nineteen yards
(28:43):
to Ethan Wheels to make it thirty one to twenty one.
And that was all she wrote as Brownstown Central sits
like Marriville punching their ticket to their first age rumpionship.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
So how about Hall of Famer Red May going for
the on side kick to start the ballgame. I love that.
I love that center Caall.
Speaker 7 (29:01):
I'll tell you what. The entire coaching staff a lot
to be proud of. They've had over nine players run
the football at least twenty times this year.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
Me.
Speaker 7 (29:09):
They are a rushing attack, a juggernaut like you haven't seen.
They were running double reverses, flea flickers, they were running pitchbacks.
I mean, it was right. It is a sight to
see because you don't know who's going to have the football,
and by the time you know who has the football,
you know the players eight or nine yards downfield. But
(29:30):
we had a great call tonight with Jared Lewis. We
are on top of it. Rain throughout tonight. But yeah,
the rushing attack from Brownstown Central, I mean Garrison at
twelve carries tonight, one hundred and five yards, two touchdowns,
one on the ground of seventy six yards on a
first down play, got the edge and was off to
the races and then caught a touchdown pass as well.
(29:51):
But very impressive tonight from Brownstown Central scheffer their quarterbacks
six of nine for one hundred and twenty four yards
and two touchdowns. He also had twenty two carries for
eighty six yards. They converted four fourth downs throughout the game.
The pel really good team, just had some timing issues
in the rain when they went to the air. I
(30:11):
had it within after that block field goal, but yeah,
big time fourth down play leads to a nineteen yard
touchdown which sealed the deal for the Braves of Brownstown
Central with a thirty one to twenty one win.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
Brownstown Central now matched up with Andrean. That should be
an interesting matchup next week for the championship.
Speaker 7 (30:31):
Yeah, Andrean's a really good team. As Paul Andrew is
talking about, it's cool to see Meryville from the DAC
coming down to play in the state championship. Andre and
as well. It was Maryville and Andrea and where my
quasi rivals going up going to Portage. But it's always
always really cool to see teams coming down from the region.
Fourth state championship. Very impressive. Andrea will have it work cut.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
Out for him.
Speaker 7 (30:55):
I've seen New pal Now twice this year. They're such
a good team front team, so that should be a
really good game. We're going to have six awesome games
coming up over the two days at Lucas Oil Stadium
next week.
Speaker 1 (31:07):
So how many days until the Indianapolis five hundred?
Speaker 7 (31:11):
Maieve it's one hundred and seventy four if I'm not mistaken.
Roma Thanksgiving usually the halfway point a great time. On Wednesday,
they did the unveil of the Borg Warner Trophy with
Alex Pollo, so had a cool conversation with him. Just
you know, all the celebrations and all the cool traditions,
and one of them is always obviously getting your faith
(31:32):
and your likeness unveiled on that B Warner Trophy. So
that was cool that before the Pacer game on Wednesday.
That was a lot of fun. And we'll be testing
in Phoenix in early February before you know it, and
three straight races. But I do want to say I
did go to the IMS Museum today. I know you
and I are very good friends with Mark James. They
have a really exist of the TV and the IMS
(31:54):
radio calls of the pass and Paul Page is one
of those on and in there right, but certainly a
huge presence of our friend Mark.
Speaker 1 (32:02):
James are boys there though. That's right, it's.
Speaker 7 (32:05):
Cool, you know, you know me, I've grown up at
the Danapolis five hundred, and it's it's probably cool that
there's a lot of these major names drivers, broadcasters that
are that are going to be synonymous to the Nanaples
five hundred that we're all lucky enough to call friends.
That was really cool to see. And a lot of
Mark James and there are a lot of Mike King,
a lot of great people that have been on this
show with you. Yeah, over years on display there and
(32:29):
yet we're we're getting closer to that half Thanksgiving the halfway.
So but as you know, it'll be here before we
know it.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
Absolutely, Tony Donna you tonight from the ITSAATV Brownstown Central
thirty one twenty one winners over lapel Tony, thanks for
the call, have a fantastic weekend.
Speaker 7 (32:49):
Thanks coach Kaitamorrow night after a couple of girls.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
I'll look forward to it. Thanks for the your call.
Coming up more football, Brendan King coming over with a
school board update, his last one. Don't be sad. We're
going to continue to talk with him, but it's sad
that he's finished with the school board updates, but have
(33:12):
faith you'll stay right with us. This is Indiana Sports Talk.
Speaker 4 (33:17):
All right.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
I'm Brendan King with this network Indiana scoreboard update here
on Indiana Sports Talk. Although it is the last one, coach,
we'll have ten more tomorrow night. I think that's the
positive side about all this. All right, four A through
six A, we were talking about the three A, two
and one A levels. At eleven thirty. These are your
matchups for next week in the IHSAA football State Finals.
(33:38):
In four A, fort Wayne Dwanger knocks off South Bend
Saint Joe twenty eight to seven. Dwanger's opponent for next
weekend Ron Khali. The Royals back in the state championship
for the first time since twenty twenty. Ron Collie took
care of Heritage Hills forty two fourteen. In five A,
Meraville comes down from the Region forty one to fourteen
winners over Concord. They are at the Dragons from New
(34:01):
Palestine forty two to nothing. Newpal Blanks Bloomington South. Lastly
six A rivalry Westfield Brownsburg say Less Rocks over Carol
Fort Wayne thirty five to fourteen. Then it was the
Bulldogs the defending six to eight champ they come up
with a whitewash of Warren Central. That was a final
of thirty one nothing. College basketball. We've been talking about Perdue.
(34:26):
They have been blowing the doors off of Texas Tech
all night. Under two minutes left second half all Purdue
number one Boilers eighty one, number fifteen Texas Tech forty nine.
And as we have said, this has been as balanced
of a scoring effort you'll ever see from a team
like Perdue. Twelve points straight Cup and Rent fifteen points,
(34:47):
Oscar Cluff ten points, CJ. Cox ten for Braden Smith,
ten for Fletcher Lawyer. Cluff has added fifteen boards. Smith
has got seven assists. The Boilers in the Baja Mar
Championship looking like the number one team in the nation.
I'm Brennan King.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
Welcome back everybody. All right, Brendan King. Have you been
watching the prey game.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
Coach, I've actually been watching here in the studio Las
Vegas F one Grand pre qualifying. It's I'm a Vegas
strip it's sick, But I have been following the Purdue game.
Speaker 1 (35:20):
Yes, so they're racing on the strip in Vegas.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
F one has a race on the strip they've been
doing it for about three years. It's a whole circuit.
It's not an oval, obviously, it's a road court and
the front straightaway is down the Vegas Strip, past the
Bellagio in Paris. So here's his palace, you name it.
It's incredible.
Speaker 1 (35:39):
Would you believe that I have never been to Las Vegas?
Speaker 2 (35:43):
No, I would not believe that. That is a pretty
surprise I have.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
I have never been to Las Vegas.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
Well, we know what your next trip is, my man,
come on out.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
Oh yeah, my next trip is to Naples coming as
in fact, I just booked it yesterday. Good for you.
Penny and I are headed down and just hang out
with their daughter and son in law first week. First
we could descend.
Speaker 2 (36:07):
Well, hold on, let me ask you this. Have you
ever had the opportunity to go to Vegas or was
it just not never?
Speaker 1 (36:12):
I've never had. No, I've never had the opportunity nor
the desire. I'm not a I'm not a gamble. I'm
not you know, that doesn't hold any fascination for me.
I'd go to see you know, obviously the shows and
all of those things. That'd be fun, but uh, you
know what we're we're happy if there's a beach, point
(36:36):
in the direction of a beach and some good food
and we're good.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
Well, I suppose there are beaches in the desert, but
there's no water, so you run into is there?
Speaker 1 (36:47):
That's true. So the Boilers are they're showing you why
they're number one right now. That's impressive.
Speaker 2 (36:53):
The third there thirty ball in the number fifteen team
in the country, and Texas Tech is very good. So
this is uh, this is shocking in a good way
if you're a Purdue fan. But no, I don't think
this was in the cards necessarily. But I mentioned that
the balance scoring by the Boilers, you know, the highest
scorers Kluff with fifteen TTR with twelve ten each for Cox,
(37:14):
Smith and Lawyer. It's impressive.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
Cluf's getting better and better. That's the whole deal. He
looks Pikes, he really does, all right. So tomorrow we
have on the docket football wise, you will be engaged
in one of the games. Murray State and Indiana State.
Be a nice, nice game. Also tomorrow, Indian State's a
(37:40):
busy place. Ball States at Indiana State playing some basketball.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
Yeah, Coach lou coming in with the cards obviously, wish
Matthew Graves could be there. We wish him well as
he continues to recover. But yeah, coach lou and the
cards there in Tara Hood against Mark Slessinger and the
and the trees. I actually I did the Indiana State
basketball game on Wednesday night. They beat Luisi out of
Tech Okay Indiana State score. They took thirty eight threes.
(38:07):
I think they hit fourteen of them if I'm not mistaken.
I asked coach Lessenger after the game, and Coach, I
think they need to put this on a T shirt immediately.
I asked coach Lessenger, Hey, you've been shooting it. Well,
you're up ten in that first half against Duke. You
know what's been the key to the hot three point
shooting over the last couple of games. And he just
simply said, Hey, we we hit roll trees and hit threes.
(38:30):
That's what we're doing.
Speaker 1 (38:32):
Oh that's uh, listen, put that on a shirt trade
trademark right now.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
That was great.
Speaker 1 (38:39):
Get the process started. That's good. Roll trees, hit threes.
I like it. That's good. That's good stuff. So you're
all set on that. You got that game tomorrow afternoon.
Ball State Indiana State.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
I've gotten Murray, I got the football game.
Speaker 1 (38:53):
Rake got the football game. Yeah, that's right, Rake's got that.
I get you too, confused because you're both very very good.
Your Butler Bulldogs will be playing Virginia tomorrow Sunday, Sunday,
excuse me, Sunday. I like, I actually like where they are.
I like, I like this team. I like a lot
about this team. I really do.
Speaker 6 (39:16):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (39:16):
And let's not forget you know, Dad knows what he's doing,
and so he yeah, he knew they were going to
get better. They're going to continue to get better, and
so everybody just stepped back from the ledge and recognize
it's not easy to win. All right, Brendan King, final break,
You and I got some final thoughts coming up on
(39:36):
Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk. Welcome back, everybody. This is
Indiana Sports Talk coming up next Friday and Saturday. One
of the greatest weekends of the entire year athletically otherwise.
It's fun get the state football finals down at the
(39:58):
Lucas Oil Stadium. You have the tree lighting and downtown
on the circle, all kinds of things going on at
the finals. Six A championship. Westfield will play Brownsburg. The
five A Championship pits Meryllville and New Palestine for a
battle will have Dwinger four W Dwinger and Indianapolis Ron Collie.
(40:23):
The three A Championship is up in the air because
we have Cascade and Gibson Southern tomorrow and the winner
of that game will play Fort Wayne Bishop Lures. In
the two A Championship, Andrean squares off against Brownstown Central
and in the single A Championship, Pioneer will play South
(40:44):
by the by Brendan King, you're doing the two A
game right, that's correct. You have a great matchup with
Andrean and Brownstown Central. You will be having a fantastic game.
Speaker 2 (40:56):
Can't wait to do it with Jim Leisure. And I
believe Chris Lowry is going to be our sideline reporter.
Speaker 1 (41:01):
So Chris Lowry, Yeah, time superstar w iou I know, time,
longtime contributor to the show. Yeah, give me my best.
Speaker 2 (41:10):
I will. That was the crew last year we had
the Class A game. Last year it was Providence over
North Judson. So hoping this can live up to It'll
look forward to it on Saturday morning, slash after do
it and we'll set the table for what's to come.
The rest of the day should be fun.
Speaker 1 (41:26):
I know, all three of you guys. I'm surprised that
they extended an invitation for you to come to another game.
Speaker 2 (41:32):
I know, I know, I can't believe it.
Speaker 6 (41:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (41:35):
No, my first state championship was Andrean beating Modern Day
back in twenty one.
Speaker 1 (41:40):
So this is a.
Speaker 2 (41:43):
Nice little full circle. It's cool to see the fifty
nine ers again, and then we'll see what obviously Brownstown.
You know, we heard from Tony d about that potent
rushing attack. This is gonna be a good game.
Speaker 1 (41:56):
Good game, all right, Colts in Kansas City on Sunday. Yeah,
I think this is a much anticipated matchup. Good news
is Daniel Jones is okay, and so it should be
a lot of fun on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (42:10):
Yeah. I mean, you've got obviously the best in the
NFL to do it at QB against probably the best
secondary now, at least in the NFL, which is funny
to say, because the Colt secondary in the first half
of the season did not look too good. But obviously
you got you make the trade for Sauce Gardner, you
get Treviia's wardback, and you know, obviously what Kenny Moore
does in the slot, so no, this is this is
(42:32):
a huge matchup. And like you said, Jones is okay
and then did see. Kansas City will be without their
top running back Isaiah Pacheco. He remains out for a
third straight week. So Kareem hunts We'll get to start
in the backfield for KC.
Speaker 1 (42:44):
That'll be fun. Outstanding pacers in action win.
Speaker 2 (42:50):
I do not have that coach. I do not know Monday.
Speaker 1 (42:52):
I believe it is Detroit, Detroit on Monday. Yeah, all right,
Brendan King, great job. As always. I want to thank
Brendan King and Caleb Zuver. Fantastic job. These two are
great at what they do. Thanks to our great stations
around the state that bring you the show every Friday
and Saturday night and for thirty one years, you've made
(43:13):
us that most listen to sports talk show in the
state's history. It is the history making legendary network, Indiana's
