Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome back everyone. This is Indiana Sports Talk, brought to
you by Indiana Donor Network Minor League Baseball. Tonight, South
Bend Cubs beat Cedar Rapids two nothing. The Voice of
the Cubs, Brendan King, joins me. Brendan big win, important win.
All these wins are important right now as we head
into the end of it.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Coach, you said it best, and in this playoff race
with the Cubs in Beloit being tied atop the division.
It's happened three separate times this week, Coach, where the
three teams in contention in the West have done the
same exact thing, where South Bend, Beloit, and Quad Cities
have either all won or they've all lost sometimes this series.
So that's what happens sometimes. But Coach, you'll take any

(00:45):
win you can get. The Cubs are tied for first
place in the division with Beloyd and heading into these
last two and a half weeks, South Bend's going to
go to Peoria next week and then host the Wisconsin
timber Rattlers in the regular season finale series. So the
Cubs are with the sky carpet. As we talked about
last weekend, they took four of six away in Beloit
last week, which set them up to be in position

(01:07):
for first place right now, competing for that top spot.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
All right, so run through if you can, and then
we'll talk about the game. But I mean, this win
what it means for them in terms of playoffs?

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Sure well, it means the Cubs are gonna have a chance, coach,
for sole possession of first place in the division tomorrow,
which they have actually had three times over the last
week and a half. Coach. For whatever reason, the Cubs
have jumped up by a game on Beloit three times
in the last week and a half, but just as
kind of had a mental hurdle where they haven't been
able to go two games up. Every time they've been

(01:45):
a game up in the division, they have lost that
next game. But again tonight, with Beloit beating Wisconsin and
South Bend victorious against Cedar Rapids here at four Winsfield
in South Bend, we call it a wash. We'll go
play tomorrow and if the Cubs are able to beat
the Colonels tomorrow, not only does that mean a series
victory here at home. If Beloit loses two Wisconsin, that

(02:06):
would mean the Cubs would have a game lead in
the division heading into that Monday off day and then
a Tuesday series start at Peoria, Coach, and Peori is
a team that has really struggled here in the Midwest
League in the second half. So I wouldn't call the
cubs schedule favorable quote und right, because everybody can beat
anybody on any given day. That's baseball, right. But the

(02:26):
Cubs are done with the most challenging part of their
schedule and they are definitely favored to win these next
two series against Peori and Wisconsin, who have both struggled
in the division.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
And half number two s cliched as it sounds, you
really are in control of your destiny. I mean, this
is listen, this is what if you go back to
spring training, then if you told them this would be
the position they'd be in, everybody on the roster, everybody
in the organization would have said, we'll take this and

(02:58):
we'll see what happens.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Yeah, you take it one hundred times out of one hundred, Coach,
when you're in a spot to win, I'll add one
more layer to it of what makes this playoff race
unique because Beloit, who we just played last week against
the Core six up in Wisconsin, which was huge. They
have the same exact opponents as the Cubs do, just reversed. Okay,

(03:22):
this is about as even of a race as you're
gonna get, Coach. The fact that the Cubs and the
skycarp are going to play the same two teams to
wrap up the season, but in reverse order. Rightly survival
of the fittest here. And as you said, if the
Cubs can just take care of business and handle things themselves,
they're gonna go to the playoffs. It's just a matter

(03:43):
of locking down and winning ball games and making winning plays.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
This conceivably, very could, very well end up going down
to that last game, the last bitch of the last game.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
Absolutely absolutely, because of the way Beloy is playing and Coach,
we talked last weekend that skycarp team, the Marlins, their
parent club, has sent them their two first round picks.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
From this season.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
I've our Get and Cam Cantarella, so they are loaded
up for postseason play. But I'll tell you so are
the South benn Cubs. Coach Age Snell the fifth round
pick at the University of Alabama. The Cubs is playing
very well, and I think I mentioned it to you
last weekend. These new additions like the Snells and our
new centerfielder Lionel Espinoza, and even a guy that pitched tonight,
Coach Conner Spencer out of old myths. He made his

(04:32):
professional debut with the South Ben Cubs tonight out of
the bullpen, and he pitched a one, two, three seventh
in how about that for your pro debut? So like
that have joined the club, melt meshing with guys like
Ariel Armis and Edgar Alvarez and others who have been
here all season. So I really like the makeup of
this Cubs team, Coach. It kind of reminds me of
our championship from twentyteen, where we have gotten some brand

(04:55):
new guys who are a part of this club, but
they are really meshing well with the guy to have
been here all year.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
Tell me about the hottest player in the world of baseball,
mister Armis, how's he doing well?

Speaker 2 (05:09):
You know, I don't think you're gonna keep up the
pace that he did over that team right stretch. He
has cooled off a little bit, but he's again He's
still hitting four hundred plus in the month of August eighth. Oh, coach,
I don't have enough time on this show to brag
about how good he has been. I will leave this
segment with this, the fact that he is hitting the
ball so well and catching nearly every single day. He

(05:32):
has thrown out the speediest runner in the Midwest League,
Kyle de Barge four times this week. To Barge has
fifty two stolen bases. Armis has got him four times
fifty three caught stealings on the season. That's the second
most in all baseball.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
All right, hang on through this break, Okay.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Yep, take outside the box.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
I'm Jay Songe for this Indiana Sports Talk update, and
let's quickly get into the NASCAR Cup Series where they
did that Daytona four hundred officially has come to a conclusion.
The final lap was an absolute battle. Was a fight
between Cole Custer and Justin Haley, two racers who were
on the bottom of the leaderboard for playoff positioning, but

(06:15):
neither of them won. It was a four wide challenge,
four different cars at the finish line, and taking the
win out of nowhere was Ryan Blaney in the four
number twelve car. He gets the victory at Daytona and
the Coke zero Sugar four hundred and now he will
move up to second in the points standings with his
second win of the season. So how about Ryan Blaney

(06:38):
coming from behind and a four wide finish at Daytona
a really good race down in Florida. So Blaney takes
the victory, finishing in second, just behind Tim Is Daniel Suarez,
and then third and fourth were the aforementioned Justin Haley
and Cole Custer, Eric Jones finishing in fifth. The top
ten rounding it out Kyle Larson, Chris Push, Ty Gibbs,

(07:01):
Josh Berry, and Chase Elliott. Tomorrow is the Milwaukee Mile
to Snap On Milwaukee Mile two fifty, the penultimate IndyCar
race by Alex Polone, will have the pop position tomorrow
after he already wrapped up the championship. He begins in
poll second is Malucas, behind him padow Award, Scott McLaughlin
and fourth Dixon in fifth, Power and sixth, Kirkwood seventh,

(07:24):
New Garden eighth, hundred Daily ninth, and Christian Rasmussen will
begin in the tenth position at tomorrow's Milwaukee Mile to fifty.
The last race will be next weekend in Nashville at
the Nashville Super Speedway for Network Indiana. My name is
Jayce Hodge.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
Welcome back, everybody, This is Indiana Sportsock. We resume our
conversation with Brendan King, the voice of the South Bend Cubs.
Cubs Speach Cedar Rapids to nothing tonight. All right, we
were talking about the hottest player in the world in Armos.
You say he's cooled off and now he's just hitting
four hundred for the month.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Well, he has, which is kind of funny to say
because he started so well.

Speaker 4 (08:08):
Coach.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
He was sixteen for his first twenty nine on the month,
so a couple of fers will do that to you.
But hey, when you're still batting four hundred on the month,
that's not too shabby. But as we were talking about
before the break, I really want to highlight Coach what
he is doing behind the plate. Ario alarmis fifth round
pick of the Chicago Cubs last year out of San Diego.
He is one of the best defensive catchers I have

(08:29):
ever covered, and just set the scene a little clearer
for you here. Kyle DeBarge, who was a first round
pick of the Twins out of Louisiana Lafayette, is one
of the best players on this Seeda Rapids roster coach.
He's a first round pick. He can hit the cover
off the ball, but he's one of the best base
runners in the league. He's got sixty two stolen base
sixty two. Coming into this series, he was sixty two

(08:50):
out of sixty five stealing bases heading into tomorrow afternoon
at four Windsfield. He is now sixty two out of
sixty nine stealing base. That's because Aril Armist has gotten
to him, and it is just amazing how Armists can
quickly get out of his crouch from behind the plate
and rifle strong throw a second Because we're talking about

(09:11):
one of the best base dealers in all minor league
baseball here. He has yet to steal a base successfully
on Armis. The only time he has done so in
the series was against the cubs backup catcher. So I
really want to stress to the folks listening out there
how difficult it is for catchers to be this consistent
hitting at the plate because of what they have to

(09:31):
do behind the plate every game. It's so unique what
Ari is doing, and he is turning all kinds of
heads in this organization, playing the best ball of his career.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Brendan King, voice of the South Bend Cubs. Cubs beat
Cedar Rapids to nothing, playing again tomorrow. To wrap it up.
Thanks Brendan, have a great night. Thank you so much
for the call. We turn it over to Mike Moss,
the voice of the Fort Wayne ten Caps. Ten Caps
in action to night with Lake County and get at

(10:03):
w tonight, don't they might?

Speaker 5 (10:06):
It's something unusual, Bob, because we played five games against
the Captains. We're two and three against them, and we
easily could have been four and one because two nights ago,
in game two of a doubleheader, we had a four
run lead going into the last inning and gave up
five runs and they had a win. And last night
we take a three nhing lead in the second inning

(10:28):
and they come back with five runs in the third
and they beat us five to three. Tonight they get
two and the second two and the third, so we're
down four to nothing one third of the way through,
but we started to come back something new for us.
Got a run in the fourth on a home run,
and the fifteening at a home run and run the
fourth and in the eighth inning. It's something you might

(10:49):
get a chuckle about we had a runner at first
and one out and the runner picks off and gets
thrown out trying to steal second base for out Number
two is later, the batter, Brendan Durfy, hits a three
hundred and ninety seven foot home run if Rosalio doesn't
try to steal the basically tie the game.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
But we're down run.

Speaker 5 (11:10):
We're down a run going into the ninth, so we
get in the bottle on top of the ninth. We
get both with two outs. An RBI single followed by
an RBI double tie the game, take the lead, and
then we bring in the latest closer kid my name
of Josh Mallitts, who was the closer for Ole Miss
when they won the College World Series in twenty twenty two.

(11:32):
Just a side down in order. We come away with
a five to four win. Our new best friends are
the Great Legs. Lose because Great Legs lost tonight, and
with our win over Lake County, they stay one half
game behind the Captains and the race for the de
facto second half Eastern Division title. So you know it's
we're basically out of it mathematically not but we're only

(11:56):
at two games away from being eliminated.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
Right.

Speaker 5 (12:00):
We need to do now is just try to play spoiler.
You and I have talked over the past couple of weeks.
We've had so many players either traded or promoted, and
we've got new influffs of younger players. They're starting to
mesh with some of the remaining players and it's starting
to make a difference. We're competitive. We still have struggled.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
You know.

Speaker 5 (12:21):
You just talked to Brendan and they took five out
of six against it two weeks ago. By the way,
Armis was fourteen for twenty against us in the series
two weeks ago, to get you a laugh, and we
lose four out of sixth at home to West Michigan
last week, win tomorrow, we split the series with Lake County.
Next week our final home series against Dayton, then we

(12:42):
wrap it up in two weeks against West Michigan. So
thirteen chances to play spoiler for the TinCaps. They're not
going anywhere, but hopefully they can try to set a
tone in a foundation for twenty twenty six.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Well, they've set a tone in foundation in terms of
people showing up to support them. The great crowds is
spectacular crowds to come out and see the Cabs.

Speaker 5 (13:06):
Yeah, we've had fourteen sellouts in excess between seven eight
thousand this year and Mike Nutter, our team president, if
we have good weather next week, we'll finish the home
schedule at once again averaging over five thousand a night.
It's the third best in the Midwest League. It's the
third best of all thirty Class eight teams. We're even

(13:28):
out drawing twelve trip AA teams in attendance. So the
city in the Greater Port Wayne area supports the TinCaps,
supports park View Field, and when the Tin Camps can
play some decent baseball and that make mistakes, this plays rocks.
I'm sure Victory Field rocks. I'm sure four Winsfield rocks
as well. But it's so much fun when you're playing

(13:50):
better baseball. You get a big crowd and the players
all say it. The big crowd excites them to get
them fired up. And we hope to have some good
crowds next week to wrap up the home season. And
if the players could just keep a positive attitude for
the next two weeks, then they can go home with
their heads held high and they're giving it the best

(14:11):
they can and they get ready for twenty twenty six.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
Yeah, I think you're right, Mike. I mean it's you know,
minor league baseball. Not an easy thing to do, not
an easy thing to control, so many factors over which
you have no control. But they do a great job.
And again, kudos to the Fort Wayne area, and you
and I are not surprised. We understand how things are there.

(14:35):
That doesn't true, that's a bit. So it's been fantastic.
Tonight's four win ten Calves five to four winners over
Lake County. Mike Moss, he made my night. I'm glad
I got a chance to talk to you. Do this again.

Speaker 4 (14:48):
We'll try to.

Speaker 5 (14:49):
Talk to you. I'm trying to talk to you next Saturday, Bob,
because there was no way I was getting involved with
the football last night. I sent fifteen minutes trying to
get car in and it was nothing but business. Signat
I knew it was Saturday.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
I was a busy guy. Yes, she was busy last night,
but I like it that way.

Speaker 4 (15:08):
Mike.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
Thanks for trying. I appreciate it. I'll talk to you
next Saturday. Thanks a lot.

Speaker 5 (15:12):
Look forward to it, Bob, Thank you, thank you.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
Yeah, last night was busy. We had twenty three calls
opening night of high school football, and uh, it's it's fun. Uh,
it's fun for you as fans to go to the games.
It's we appreciate the fact that when you walk out

(15:35):
of the games and get in your car and turn
on your radio listening to your local stations who are
part of our network, it's fun. And we've done this
for thirty one years. And I remember when we started,
you know, people would say, hey, you know, I like
listening to your show. I love I can't wait to

(15:58):
get in my car and listen for the scores. Well,
that's great. We hope you continue to do that. We
hope you'll always continue to do that, because that's why
one of the reasons why we started the show was
to provide that information. And the irony is that when
we started back in nineteen ninety four, we were the

(16:19):
ones collecting all the scores, and we were getting calls
from television stations all over the state asking about scores
in their area. And now the way technology has changed
how all of us receive information, there's still room for
us plenty of discussion about what we would do as

(16:40):
these things started to converge. I think we've asked and
answered all those questions, so we're still we're still doing
what we do. Coming up, though, we've got talking about
high school football. Paul Condry's going to join me in
just a few minutes as we talk about what happened
last night, some great games, some streaks were ended, and

(17:03):
then we're gonna look ahead. He's going to look ahead
at some of the big matchups in week number two
of high school football. It goes quickly, Okay, I mean
it really really goes quickly. So Schoolboard Update with Jase
Hodge and then Paul Condrey and I will talk about
high school football on Indiana Sports Talk.

Speaker 4 (17:23):
By India Jofferson Villain outside the Boss.

Speaker 6 (17:32):
Victory formation and the preseason finale and Cincinnati belongs to
the Indianapolis Colts. The clock will run outs, and the
final score today in Cincinnati at peip Stadium on the
Rua Morga scoreboard will be the Indianapolis Colts forty one
and that Cincinnati Bengals fourteen.

Speaker 3 (17:51):
Heard it there first, the Colts getting the big time victory,
albeit in a preseason game, but forty one to fourteen.
The final just down Ice seventy four in Cincinnati as
the Colts wall up the Bengals in their final preseason
game before they get the regular season underway. And what
you could argue was the play of the game was

(18:11):
this absolute bomb to Treadwell.

Speaker 6 (18:13):
Thirty eight seconds remain. Leonard meanwhile backs to throw on
second and ten, got a loft one downfield for Treadwell.
He's got inside the twenty ten five and he walks
into the edd Jon.

Speaker 7 (18:24):
One Treadwell, Yes, sir, up bomb put right all the
money by Riley Leonard and Treadwell made an over their
shoulder catch. It went over his right shoulder into the
pred basket and he walks in got behind the secondary.

Speaker 3 (18:40):
For a touchdown fifty nine yards from Leonard to Treadwell,
and that gave the Colts a twenty four to seven
advantage in the ball game they would go on to win.
Like I said, forty one to fourteen. Major League Baseball.
The Cubs are now up by twelve twelve nothing Cubs
in the seventh inning, Los Angeles, as the Cubs are

(19:01):
taking it two of the Angels, So probably a good
day for Cubs fans to fly to the w out
on their front porch. The Cubbies looking to get the
victory to stay within the treking distance of Milwaukee in
the NL Central. In the few games behind right now,
we'll see if they can't catch up. For Network Indiana Sports,
I'm Jay Sodge.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
Welcome back everyone. I'm Bob Lovell. This is Indiana Sports Talk. Well,
we won a football in the books. That means we
have to talk about what went on last night around
the state with the man who wrote the book. It's
called the Indiana Football Digest. Founder of the Regional Radio
Sports Network, remember of the Indiana Football Hall of Fame,
mendor of the Indiana Sports Writers and Sports Casters Hall

(19:43):
of Fame. Our good friend Paul Condrey. Paul, thanks for
the call. Pretty nice night last night when we got
things started for the season, well another season of high
school football.

Speaker 4 (19:55):
YEA excited about what we saw last night. Certainly nothing
state championships were one. Obviously, there's a lot of situations
that you know, you're thinking about, Okay, it's week one.
Are we going to play too much into this win?
Are we going to play too much into this loss?
So I'm not taking a lot of stock into a
lot of these non league games, but certainly some teams

(20:18):
fluxed their muscles right as we expected. And there were
some teams that quite frankly, didn't play up to the
expectations that we placed upon them. And a wide variety
of that situation comes from just injuries as well as transfers,
as well as other things that are going on, quite frankly,
that are out of the coach's control. And I know

(20:40):
that you, as a college basketball coach, know one thing
is certain is you can't control the controllables, and so
those are the situations that you prepare for. But the
reality of it is is the kids got to go
out and play and make plays, and certainly we saw
some teams do that. We saw some teams step up
and play very very well. We had a couple upsets,
I would think, at least, I want to say this

(21:02):
very very loosely. We saw some teams upset some teams
on paper. The question is are those teams going to
be able to be We're going to be going to
be talking about those teams when you and I do
the pairing show a little bit later on in the air.
But it was a great first night of high school football.
The weather was really really comfortable for a late August evening,

(21:26):
and I think when it was all said and done,
it was a good week. We saw some guys like
Mike Gillan, who moved into the number three spot all
time and career victories. You know him as well as
I as anybody does. You played against him when you
were in high school, so I was happy for him.
But there were some teams that certainly arose above the occasions,
kind of like Avon big win for their group as

(21:47):
they defeated six A number thirteen Decatur Central, which was
also the team that won the state championship in five A.
And you know, teams like Leo Jason Drfor's team beat
number one for William Bishop Bleers at home and for
their group. And so there were some teams that had
picked up a couple upsets along the way. Some a

(22:08):
lot of coaches won their first career games, and I
think that's what's probably the most significant things because those
coaches are with the turnover we've had over the last
few years, that's always good to see some guys getting
off on the right foot.

Speaker 1 (22:22):
I thought one of the more inspiring wins was North
Central LA Farmers breaking their losing streak.

Speaker 4 (22:28):
Yeah, I think Colin Koecher in his first year. Certainly,
when you think about that, you lose thirty two straight games,
that certainly that speaks volume of what they've been able
to do coming and maybe change the culture culture That
excuse me, but I think that you know, this is
a rebuff team that was hit hard by graduation, but
a good win for the Panthers, and I'm so happy.

(22:49):
All I can think of is those those teams from
the thrilling days of yesteryear and when al Haranz was there,
and of course the legendary athletic roster was and I
just look at it. It was it was just part
of the of the cycle of things that we're seeing.
We saw last night, uh seeger TJ. Reagan, who's only

(23:09):
in his fourth season at Seger. They knocked off a
perennial power, Lotia Central Catholic in the opening night over
there for their team. Uh, And so we're we saw
some of those things. We saw Monthy Central's Kyle Burrisch
so get his first win as the head coach of
Munty Central and maybe the I don't know, maybe the

(23:31):
first time that they beat Delta in probably three decades.
So these are the kind of things that happen on
opening night. But when it's all said and done, I
think that we'll hold judgment on hey, this was a
career win. When we get a little bit in the
week seven, eight and nine.

Speaker 1 (23:48):
Coach, I think, Paul, you know the thing that the
dynamic bits out there. You know you talked about it earlier.
I suppose those first two games on your schedule most
a lot of teams playing outside of their conferences, playing
outside in the regions, and quite frankly, with the mobility
now that players have, it may be a we may

(24:08):
be a little harder. It's harder now to evaluate how
your team might be in these first one or two
ball games.

Speaker 4 (24:17):
I think that the conference that had affecting the most
is the Summit Athletic Conference. For years, the guys up
in Fort wayn And everybody on the schedule was a
league opponent, right And now that they've have a chance
to play a couple of non league teams, we're seeing
them going outside. I like to call this outside of

(24:37):
the fort to play some teams, and I think we
saw that and we're seeing that. I think if you
go up in northwest Indiana, if you look at the
Northwest Crossroads Conference. You want to ask yourself, you know,
how did they do outside of the league? How about
one in six? That's not very good. But there were
some teams and there were some conferences that stepped up
and as you would expect and play some big games.

(24:58):
But what's so exciting about the the first couple weeks
of the season as you get a chance to play
some teams outside of the state, outside of your comfort zone.
I think the case in point is the defending six
state state champions Brownsburg played Spaulding out of Maryland thirty
six to twenty three. Big win there. Oscar Fry of
course won a state championship last year as a quarterback.

(25:19):
He had a monster ball game, beating one of the
best programs in the country. You look at that, I
think that what was really really neat as you're starting
to see some of these teams go out and play
these non league teams, and we're going to see it again,
and I know we're going to talk about it in
our final segment. But the case in point is a
game that's coming up next week as Marriville is going

(25:43):
to be of course already a perennial power, is going
to be taking on one of the best teams in
the history of Illinois football team that is a six
times state champion in week two and if it's not
for those kind of opportunities, because it's really kind of
the baramater. As you as as a former coach, you
know that you want to know how you're going to

(26:04):
be able to play right when you get outside your league.
And I think these things, these games playing outside of the
league will really really test you in regards to you know,
how good are we. You want teams that are going
to expose your weaknesses, not teams that you're going to
run over and run rockshot against. And I think that's

(26:26):
what the first two weeks of the regular season really
kind of presents itself with for high school football coaches.

Speaker 1 (26:31):
A couple of familiar names to high school football fans
in our state coming back new jobs, getting off to
a good start last night, Kevin Wright, John Hebert. Big
wins for them and their respective programs.

Speaker 4 (26:44):
You know, I said this as a matter of fact,
We had our staff meeting this week and I said, guys,
I want you to keep them. Write this down right now.
The team that is going to affect the most in
all these new coaches, it's going to be Kevin Right.
Kevin Wright can flat out coach. He spent all those
years winning state championships here in the state, went off

(27:05):
to coach college football. He was at Indiana with Tommy
Allen down there, and I really really believe and they
just you know, they took Fishers to school last night
and so a big win for them. And I think
that Kevi can coach. He's one of the best that's
ever been around. Of course comes from that great legacy
of the legendary blud Right and I think that was

(27:26):
the that's the team that we kind of they've kind
of been on the back burner. I can use that
terminology over the course of the last semes because of
the Brownsburgs, the Center Groves, the Westfields and whatnot. But
I think that the state of Indiana should be put
on notice that Kevin Wright and the Carmel Greyhounds are back,

(27:47):
and I think they're a team that has to be
reckoned with no question.

Speaker 1 (27:52):
I don't think there's any question. And then at Noble
Zilvia have John Hebert with a great start to his
his season and he can win some games.

Speaker 4 (28:02):
Yeah, I certainly think that that's going to be the case.
When you look at these teams and anytime a coach
who was from point A to point B, I think
that you have to look at their body work. You know,
John's won state championships and of course I win on
the road at Mount Vernon Fourville. But once again, you
know they're going to be in that very very difficult
Hoo's your crossroads conference with Avon and Avon with a

(28:25):
monster win last night they got Brownsburg, Hamilton, Southeastern. So
win at Mount Vernon.

Speaker 1 (28:32):
Is a good win.

Speaker 4 (28:33):
But boy, I'll tell you what the rogue, it's really
really difficult for John in the group because you look
at the schedule and from week two on Fishers, Westfields, Zionsville, Franklin, Central, Hambleton, Southeastern, Brownsburg, Ava.
Oh my goodness, what a gauntless show. You better get
that win now early, John, because I tell you what,
they're going to be few and far between. If you

(28:53):
if you're not ready to go.

Speaker 1 (28:55):
Hey, Paul, hang on through this scoreboard up date, okay,
and then we'll talk about matchups and week number two
when we come back on Indiana Sports.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
Talk for this final network Indiana Sports scored update of
the night I am Jay Sodge. The Indianapolis Colts got
the win today forty one to fourteen, making the trip
down I seventy four to face the Bengals, getting the
big victory after great outings from both quarterbacks and Jason
Bean and Riley Leonards today, both of them having a

(29:24):
touchdown throw to themselves and an eighty percent completion rates.
Both at a great job and the final cuts will
be made the next three days as they get down
to the fifty three man roster. In Major League Baseball,
the Cubs are up twelve to one, currently in the
top of the eighth out in Anaheim, taking on the
Los Angeles Angels the Cleveland Guardians. They fell ten zero.

(29:45):
In Texas. The White Sox won seven to three at
home against the Twins, The Reds fell in Arizona ten
to one, and the Tigers getting the victory four to
two over the Kansas City Royals. In Minor League Baseball,
the South Bend Cubs one two zero overseedar Rapids. They
currently are in a tie with Beloit in the Midwest League,

(30:05):
trying to stay ahead in the second half standings. The
Fort Wayne ten Caps, they won five to four in
Lake County against the Captains. And finally the Indianapolis Indians
they lost four zero in Syracuse against the Mets. The
Indians are currently half a game behind Toledo and the
second half standings in the Triple A Baseball standings. The
Indy Eleven they won three to two against MIAMIFC. Two

(30:27):
Jack Blake goals in the second half get the eleven
the victory and they currently sit in the final playoff
spot in the US ZEL. And then finally in NASCAR
are the Coke zero Sugar four hundred at Daytona that
was won by none other than Ryan Blaney, who is
now second in the point standings. He won after there
was a four wide finished two of the race with

(30:49):
three other racers, so Blaney gets the win at Daytona.
For Network Indiana Sports, I'm Jay Sodge.

Speaker 1 (30:55):
Welcome back, everybody. I'm Bob Lovel. This is Indiana Sports. SOK.
We reached conversation with the legend himself, Paul Condrey. All right, Paul,
Week one in the books. Great matchups coming up in
week number two, and we've talked a little bit about it.
But tell me what you see is some of the
great matchups coming up this Friday.

Speaker 4 (31:16):
Well the twenty ninth in August, I think I should
present some interesting situation. Ayvon ben Davis is a nice
game down in the bottom half of the super State.
You've got ev his home modern day at Castle. I
always think that's a good with Snyder travels the East Noble,
very attractive affair. But I think maybe the game of
the night has to be. There's two of them that

(31:38):
I got on my radar, Cathedral Ed Brownsburg. Two great
football teams, two teams rich in tradition, two teams that
have just oozed success. You've got John Hart and coach Peebles.
I tell you what, I just love that matchup. A
great seven o'clock affair there. I think that was one
there Laville North Judson should be a nice game. But

(31:58):
the game that that will peak the interests of a
lot of us, and I know our guys at regional
radio sports look about it because they're going to be
doing this game. It's what, as coach geek Chris Kisman
used to say, it's the grocery card game between Mishawaka.
They are on the road at free Field to take
on pen both teams coming off a season opening wins
Landon Stider, the great quarterback for the Mishawaka Caveman. Well,

(32:22):
he's going to have his hands full because Vinnie Freeman
may be the best defensive player in the northern half
of the state. That should be a great game. And
how about two teams and one state championships last year.
How about New Palette Decatur Srenschel. I think that's a
very very attractive matchup in week number two. I really
really like what we're going to see in week two.
You know, Westfield at Carmel. We'll find out where both

(32:45):
Carmel's at, We'll find him out where Westfield is at
with some of those games. So I think it's going
to be an attractive week of games in the second
time around. But I tell you what, once again, well
you and I have talked about the cliches, and they're
very very I was on with the with the with
the Coaches at the Indiana Football the Indiana Football Coaches

(33:05):
Association podcast this morning, and one thing is has become
very very apparent that the most, the single biggest improvement
from point A to point B happens between week one
and week two. So we'll find out how great those
coaches are, what kind of adjustments they're going to make,
and we'll find out where some of those teams are

(33:26):
in between week one and week two. Shall be a
really fine and fun week in week two.

Speaker 1 (33:32):
He's Paul Condrey from the Regional Radio Sports Network and
the Indiana Football Digests. He's in the Hall of Fame
for a reason because he's great at what he does
and the biggest friend football in the state of Indiana has. Paul,
What a great weekend. Thank you so much for your time.
Have a great week, and I'll talk to you Friday night.

Speaker 4 (33:51):
Thanks coach.

Speaker 1 (33:51):
Great to be with it, Guy Bob, thank you. Thanks
a lot, Paul, Paul Condrey, great job is always recapping
what happened last night and week number one of high
school football. Those are some great matchups obviously coming up
in week number two. Again you continue and for the
most part, you get some great non conference matchups in

(34:12):
these first two weeks, some matchups from out of your area.
You saw them last night, You're going to see some
more coming up on Friday night. If you were with
us on the show last night, thank you very much.
We appreciate that. Make sure you join us again. This
Friday night. We're into it with football, and to me,

(34:33):
there's nothing like you know, just opening night that first week.
So many great calls last night on the show. A
number of coaches winning their first games as coaches can
relate to that, how that feels, what that's about, and
I appreciate them taking time to share that feeling with
our audience last night. And so again, make sure you

(34:57):
get out support your local school rules. I always recommend
that you go to the ticket booth and pay double.
So if admission is five dollars and him at ten,
they need the money. Football supports your basic athletic program
at most of the high schools in our state, and
so that ticket revenue is incredibly important. So yeah, I know, tickets.

(35:23):
You know, if it's five bucks and you give ten,
doesn't seem like much. Those things add up if people
do it. So just to tip, just to give it
some thought, and uh, you know, it's just one of
those things. Coming up. Final break, Final thoughts. This is
Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Tock. Welcome back every one on

(35:46):
Bob Level. This is Indiana Sports Stock. It's brought to
you by Indiana Donor Network. College Football. Next weekend, uh
me some tremendous games without question. I you hope puts
up on the thirtieth against Old Dominion next Saturday there

(36:06):
taking on Old Dominion. My personal favorite though game for
this is Thursday night, the twenty eighth, the University of
Indianapolis will play be playing at Marion University. Those of
us in the central Indiana area, that is a great,
great matchup, two teams in Indianapolis, two schools in the

(36:27):
Indianapolis meeting, I think for the first time, quite frankly,
and so that certainly is going to be a lot
of fun. The Hoosiers, as I mentioned, coming up on
the thirtieth taking on Old Dominion. We talked about ball
State earlier in the night with Mark Forrester. Ball State

(36:49):
opens up their season at Purdue next Saturday, so we're
into it. Notre Dame, as we mentioned, they'll play next Sunday.
They played the thirty first against Southern col and so
next weekend will be full without question. We're talking about

(37:09):
high school football week number two and obviously a lot
of college football. So it's that time of year, and
you'll have another week after that to wait for the
colt to open up their season Colts, so get down
to the fifty three man limit for their roster later
on this week. There'll be a lot of discussion about
that they get a win today in their final preseason

(37:31):
game against a hapless Cincinnati Bengal effort today and very
impressive day by Riley Leonard, big touchdown, eighty yard touchdown
late in the ball game, So a lot of anticipation
and who makes the team and who doesn't see how
that impacts this season. So make sure again that you

(37:54):
join us on Friday night, week two of high school football.
It should be a whole lot of fun. Also, pray
for good weather, pray for make sure that we get
another great was perfect last night. To be honest, it
could not have been any better in terms of the
weather for the opening weekend of high school football, so

(38:19):
we have that to look forward to coming up. Also,
makes again make sure you get out and see a
game next Friday, and when the game's over, jump in
your car, hit your local radio station, your local affiliate
and listen to Indiana Sports Talk Now. In season number

(38:39):
thirty two. And the reason why we've been on so
long is it's fun. Friday nights are fun. Friday and
Saturday during basketball are fun because of all the scores,
and that's what we're going to do and we're going
to continue to do that and do that the best
way that we can. I want to thank our guests
tonight for joining us. Thank you so much much. To

(39:01):
Pat Boiling from the Fever, Fever in Action tomorrow taking
on the links mark Forrester, Thank you so much and
we'll talk with them next week. My thanks also to
the the C and C Boys Cade and Caleb. Great job, gentlemen,
Jace Hodge and wonderful as always. Thanks to our great

(39:23):
radio stations around the state to bring the show every
Friday and Saturday night, and thanks to all of you
for making us the most listen to sports talk showing
today in the state's history. This is Indiana Sports Talk.
