Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back everyone, this is Indiana Sports Talk. We have
another hour to go on our first time back on
season thirty two. We're gonna talk some some baseball talk,
a little football talk, maybe some basketball. Right now though,
we turn it over to the Star of Oars Show.
It's Network Indiana's Eddie Garrison.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Thank you, Coach Lovell. One more hour of fun here
on Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk. On night number one
of season thirty two. We start this top of the
hour scoreboard update with some Indiana Fever news. Earlier today,
the team announced that Aery McDonald at Cindy Coulson, two
of Indiana's three point guards, we'll miss the remainder of

(00:39):
the season due to different injuries. McDonald was acquired during
the course of the season for the Indiana Fever. They
were short on players because of injuries earlier in the year.
They signed her to an emergency medical contract, and then
once that contract expired, Indiana elected to bring her back
for the rest of the season. She will now miss

(00:59):
the final fifteen regular season games for the Fever with
a broken bone in her right foot. As for the
veteran Sidney Colson, she tore her left acl yesterday and
she will miss the final thirteen games of the regular season.
Correcting myself from earlier in the update. Next up for

(01:20):
the Indiana Fever tomorrow are the Chicago Sky and Stephanie White.
After the game last night and their loss to the Phoenix,
Mercury was asked how they keep the team morale up,
considering the level of injuries they're dealing with right.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Now, staying together just we're worrying about our execution, worrying
about us continuing to get better. Look, there are gonna
be days where we don't make shots. There are gonna
be days where you know, you feel like you're stuck
in mud. It's we're not immune to that like any
other team. But it's about the bigger picture of how
we respond to that. And you know, this group was
still tighten our huddles, this group was still engaged in timeouts.

(01:56):
This group was still you know, going out and executing
on both ends. And that's that's what it's about. You know,
this is a group that's been through a lot this
entire season, and we love each other, We pull for
each other, and I think that in moments like this,
you continue to see that, and that's to me. That
is one of the one of the things I'm proud of,
so with this group.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Of course, Caitlyn Clark has missed eighteen games this year,
including the last nine for Indiana with a right growing injury,
and she will most likely, if not definitively, miss Tomorrow's
game against the Chicago Sky In the season series, Indiana
is three and zero against Chicago and right now, the
Fever are fifth in the WNBA standings with a seventeen

(02:37):
and fourteen record. They will be tied for fifth tonight
and it's a matter of whom they are tied with.
The Seattle Storm in the Las Vegas Aces are both
sixteen and fourteen and they're taking on each other right now,
and at halftime it's Aces forty seven, Storm thirty six.
Major League Baseball, just going final over in Saint Louis.

(02:57):
It is a shutout for the Redbirds. I have nothing
over the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs are sixty six and
forty nine on the season. Saint Louis a game over
five hundred and fifty nine and fifty eight. Michael McGreevey
gets the win for Saint Louis. He goes six innings
of shoutown Baseball. He strikes out three Cubs banners. Matthew

(03:18):
Boyd is now eleven and five after the loss, he
gives up three runs in five innings. Saint Louis standout
offensive performers Jordan Walker and Alec Burleson. Burleson three for
four tonight. Jordan Walker was three for four as well.
He had a home run and two RB eyes in
the win for Saint Louis. Earlier in the ninth the

(03:40):
Cincinnati Rens and the Pittsburgh Pirates played game two of
four from Pittsburgh three two advantage Tonight for Pittsburgh, they
defeat the Rens for the second consecutive day. Cincinnati has
now lost three consecutive games. They are sixty and fifty
seven and slipping in the wildcard standings. Pittsburgh is fifteen
games under five hundred. They are fifty one and sixty six.

(04:03):
Tony Santion credited with the loss for Cincinnati after giving
up a basis clearing triple to Brian Reynolds that played
at Isaiah Kiner Filefa and Tommy fam to give Pittsburgh
that three to two advantage in Dennis Santana shut the door
of the ninth, picking up his seventh save of the year.
The Detroit Tigers were feeling good going into the game

(04:23):
tonight because they had Trek Scubel on the mount well
Scooble was not great today. Four and two thirds innings pitched.
He gave up four runs, but a three run home
run by Matt Veierling at the bottom of the eighth
gives the Tigers their sixty seventh win of the season.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
This is Indiana's Sports Tawk, brought to you by Indiana
Donor Network. Eddie Garrison, star of the show Eddie. All
I can think about are the fever and how unbelievable
the injury situation is for them right now.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Of course, Caitlin Clark no timeline on when she will
be back as she's dealing with that right Groy injury
was we talked about earlier. Coach I seem to think
it'll be in two weeks from tonight, so it'll be
the twenty second of August. Indiana will have a layoff
of five days. They will play that on the seventeenth
and then well Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday off and they'll
have the chance to get back on the practice floor

(05:15):
or head coach Stephanie White has stated a couple times
that they need to see her practice and she said
practices so multiple before she can return to game action.
And as of right now, I'm only aware of that.
She's gone through a couple of workouts since being signedlined
with the right groin injury, so there'll be some time there.
Aaron McDonald broken bone in her right foot, she's out
for the rest of your Sidney Colson tears her aco

(05:37):
and her left knee, she is out the rest of
this year. So Indiana down to one guard right now,
in Kelsey Mitchell.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
Yeah, and it's not like you can just pick up
the phone and go find someone capable of leading a team.
That's pretty darn good.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
No, it's not easy. And when you're looking at the
free agents out there too, coach, like, some of these
players are overseas and they already have contracts committed to
playing overseas, so it makes things really really challenging.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
All right, all that thought, I'll talk a little minor
league baseball the man himself, Mike Moss Fort Wayne Tinclfs.
All right, Mike, I'm feverishly trying to find on my
phone a ten Calfs score. So so I sound like
I know what I'm talking about. Somebody, I'm gonna say,
I'm gonna give up that hunt and ask you to

(06:25):
just tell me what happened with the Cups the ten
Calfs tonight.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
Well, first of all, welcome back, Bob, it's been a while.
Uh final score tonight with South Bend eight, Fort Wayne five,
and uh, the Cubs are playing very good baseball. Brendan
King's gonna talk to you at the bottom of the hour,
and I promised him I'd let him get a lot
of the good details for South End, right, but real,

(06:50):
real briefly for the fourth time in this fourth tix
game series. In the fifth game overall, TinCaps scored the
first run of the game tonight in the third inning,
but uh, South Bend tied it in the fourth third
inning rather, and we went back up two to one.
And Cubs got a two out, three run single in

(07:11):
the bottom of the fourth inning. And that that hurt
big time from a guy who has killed us. Edgar
Alpharez in the second year with South Bend tied the
franchise record for most hits against Fort Wayne tonight. Wow,
he had two hits he now has thirty hits against
US over last season and this season, and that made it.

(07:34):
That made it four to one, say four to two.
We actually tied it with two runs in the seventh. Wow,
But the bottom of the eighth South Been sent nine
batteries to the plate and he scored four times, took
advantage of a couple of airs and a few hits,
and so we got one run back in the ninth.
It wasn't enough.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
South Bend's twenty nineteen in the second half.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
Five.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
They're fighting for the West Division title in the second half,
and they may have a good shot at it, especially
since they got to go to Beloit next week to
take on the Skycarp in a six game series. We've
been a Jeco and Hide team all year long, and
with the loss tonight, won now fifty and fifty five overall.
We're nineteen and twenty one in the second half, and

(08:15):
we're something like four and a half games out of
a playoff spot, and we've only got like twenty six
games left, so it's going to take a minor miracle.
Of course, the TinCaps got hurt. San Diego made a
bunch of trades on trading deadline run, and they took
our two best players in trades, the number three pick
overall in Minor league baseball, Leo Debris went to the Athletics,

(08:39):
and then our spark club shorts Dot Brennan. Butterworth was
involved in a late trade with the Baltimore oreos So
and we lost our three best pitchers, including our release,
who hasn't been scored on since they go twenty third.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
So but give South Bend credit. They've come back. They're
playing much in fact, coming into the game tonight, Bob,
real quick, I know you got to go to a break.
But South Bend had the second best team earned run
average in Minor League Baseball all one hundred and thirty
one hundred and twenty teams at that two point four
to eight. Only team knows better was another Chicago cub affiliate,

(09:16):
the Birmingham Bearings in the Double A Southern League. So
comes are getting good pitching, they're getting some timely hitting,
and they were over seven thousand fans here tonight at
four wins Field. So that that tenth man came to
the forefront for South Bend tonight.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
It's a great story, Mike, you know, irrespective of the
of the loss is the fact that the Caps are
an incredibly important part of Fort Wayne in the northeastern
part of the state. It's it's fun to watch their story,
fun to hear about their story. You're intimately involved in it. Obviously,

(09:51):
some good baseball being played, great baseball being played, and
so you know, you know the vagaries of minor league baseball,
what you're going through with the call ups and the
trades and all the other things. It happens, but they're still, Yeah,
it's fun to get out to the ballpark and hang
out and watch some baseball.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
It really is, Bob, And we've tried since two thousand
series the term family fun entertainment, right, and we try
to do that every time someone comes to Parkingfield.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
Mike Moss, you're pro. Thanks. We'll talk to you tomorrow night. Mike. Thanks,
you look forward to it.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
Bob, say hi to BK for me.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
I'll do that. Thank you.

Speaker 2 (10:30):

one of the most wins in a season in Indiecar history.
For Network Indiana Sports, I'm Eddie Garrison.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
Welcome back everyone. This is Indiana Sports Talk, brought to
you by Indiana Donor Network. Don't forget to join us
tomorrow night. Yes, for thirty one years we've been on
Friday and Saturday nights, and I know, you know with
high school football coming up in two weeks, and thank

(12:41):
you for listening, which you do and have done for
a long time. But sometimes we forget that we are
also on on Saturday nights. I know that I hear
this a lot, have heard it a lot during the
course of thirty two years. Hey, I love listening to
you guys on Friday nights after the games, and I go,
so do you listen on Saturday? And I didn't know

(13:02):
you were on Saturday. Yes, we are, so join us
tomorrow night, Eddie Jarrison, great job tonight, well done, It's
great to be back. And here your outstanding work, coach.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
I still have three more or two more updates. Second
screw up?

Speaker 1 (13:17):
So uh now, Eddie, you don't screw up. You know
you're you're too good for this. So tell me about
the Colts again. Disappointing night, was it not last night?
I mean your respective of the Anthony Richardson situation. Uh,
you're an old baseball player. I'm sure you caught one

(13:38):
on the tip of your finger and dislocated finger, didn't you.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
I broke a thumb before my catching hand. I didn't
dislocate a finger.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
Thought's say, you're a catcher. I dislocated a finger of mine,
stole second, slid in, slid in head first, right, ye,
I catch you guys, cleat snap. And so my on
my right hand, my ring finger on my right hand,

(14:05):
that first knuckle is sticking. It's a ninety degree angle,
got it. That's pretty and it is not pretty and
it's painful. And so I was, you know, travel ball.
I'm in Spencer, Indiana, right, and they they take me
find a doctor somewhere, taken to the doctors, and I

(14:28):
loved what he did. He just grabbed my finger and
yanked it, and which is like I'd been shot and
he was. He said, well, there you are, You're all set.
I said, that's it. He goes, yeah. So what happens though,
is that that that finger would come out. It was
especially tricky because that was the summer before I went

(14:51):
to Franklin College and went to school, so basketball practice
early on there, when I if I would catch a
pass the wrong way, that that would that thing would
pop out again. And it just got to be finally
to a point where I didn't have surgery, but I
was close to it and somehow, but it's still it's

(15:12):
it's an ugly looking finger. I mean it's that finger
is just not a straight looking finger. So I know
how that feels, how painful that is. And I'm not
playing in the NFL, so I have an idea what
that's about.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
Not to mention, it's on his throwing hand, nonetheless, so
it's not like it's on the left hand where it's
not going to be affected, you.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
Know, and that little finger on your throwing hand is
incredibly important to what you're doing with the football.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
Yeah, I mean it's always I mean, it's right there
to help you, you know, keep a nap on it
when you're trying to know and you know every time
you're gonna throw, you're gonna have probably pain shooting down
that finger until it's fully healed. But there's been a
lot of discussion on whether or not Anthony should have
even been out there in the first place, considering you know,
they're missing three offensive LINEMANIM right, people, Look, if you're

(15:56):
complaining that the guy who you view as the quarterback
one is out there in a preseason game where three
starters are out, then I got something to tell you.
That means the Colts aren't confident and who's the starter,
and that means they don't really have a quarterback. Because
if you didn't, then yes, you're one hundred percent correct,
then Anthony Richardson wouldn't be out there if we knew
that he was the starting quarterback for a week one,

(16:17):
but we don't. So he's out there to compete with
Daniel Jones. And there were a lot of things that
he worked on in the offseason to become a more
consistent passer in the layup category of those you know,
five to seven yard completions and then anything from seven
to twelve yards were areas of improvement for him, and
you need to just see him go out there and
show that he has improved and he's not going to

(16:38):
revert back to the issues that he had in his
first two seasons in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (16:43):
I think the other thing is very simple. I mean,
you have a young quarterback who hasn't played much. He
desperately needs repetitions, and so, yeah, I understand the concept
of it's a preseason game and meaningless not meaningless. I
mean he needs reps, he needs time, he needs field time.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
Uh, that's one of the biggest things that he needs,
and you're trying to get that. People get hurt in football.
That's a it's it's that type of sport. And so
and again I've said it throughout the night. If you're
making decisions as coaches, doesn't matter what sport, what level,
you're going to get criticized. You're never right and people

(17:25):
who've never done it before suddenly now no more than
you do. So that's just that's how go. What would
concern me, though, is you know, defensively, they weren't they
you know, they were just I used the word pedestrian
earlier in the night. That's exactly I think what they were. Uh,
their running game still suffers. This team has a long

(17:46):
way to go. Uh, there's a lot of football to play.
I understand that. I'm not sure i'd pushed the panic
button just yet, but it is a team that was
disappointing year ago, and it's hard right now, uh to
get excited about what's going on.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
Yeah. I was at the State Fair on Tuesday, so
it was like the you know, one of the opening
days is like the third day it was open, fourth
day it was open, and I was just walking around
you and I was like, you know what, here's a
fast fascinating thing for me to you know, kind of
track air or keep a you know, memory of like
how many people, you know, it's the middle of the
training camp Colt seasons, around the corny of the NFL

(18:21):
is around the court. How many Colts shirts or jerseys
do I see? And I felt like I saw more
Indy five hundred shirts. I felt like I saw more
Pacers shirts or jerseys or hats than I did Colts stuff.
And I was like, that's very indicative on where the
things are at right now. It just doesn't feel like
there's a lot of anticipation or a lot of hope
that it seems like it's more of like a dread
of Colts fans that the season is here because they know, yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:44):
They're yeah, me too. I love you. I hope you're wrong.
I don't disagree with you, but I hope, I hope
you're wrong. There's so listen, there's so much time left.
I wouldn't I wouldn't get too nervous. Shit. Now, if
they continue to do this and it's I say it's
just a preseason game, they have more to do that preseason.

(19:07):
I think back to the Peyton days where they didn't
win any games in preseason and win super Bowls. You
can't even think about it. People, Listen. People aren't going
to be satisfied no matter what they think. You should
win every time you go out there. And as I
like to say, it's one of my favorite expressions on
the show, it is hard to win. It's very hard.

(19:30):
You know this from your career. It's not easy to win.
Here's a shock. The other team's trying to win as
much as you are, and they have just as good
at players as you do. So call me crazy. It's
just hard to win. Doesn't matter what the sport is.
It certainly doesn't matter what the level.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
Is, right, And Matt Taylor talked about it early on
the program, like they played so many one possession games
last year, and that means that you know, they're right there,
just got to get over the hump, right, trying to
piggyback off, and you're hoping that out of those one
possession games. The additions that you make in the secondary,
the addition of defensive coordinator lou Anumo, the addition hopefully

(20:12):
of Daniel Jones, provides a little bit more stability at
the quarterback position, thus being able to create some more
wins to threaten maybe an AFC South you know title
this year, because that's probably your best bet if you're
going to make the postseason, if you're in the Indianapolis Colts,
just based off of how dang strong the AFC is
right now.

Speaker 1 (20:33):
Yeah, And I think it's we say it all the time.
You're respective of the sport, this is a group that
really really really needs a good start.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
Yep. Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
You know, if they don't get off to a good start,
those of us in the media, you especially, you'll attack them,
and it's just and I think for their own well being.
And I mentioned it earlier tonight, I'm concerned about it.
He just pour in Tony Richardson. You know, his first
two years have not gone well. Everybody knows that, everybody

(21:05):
reminds him of it. And the poor guy goes out
breaks a finger in the first preseason game. How do
you think he feels. I mean, it's just a tough,
tough situation. All right, Eddie, well done. Two more school
board updates before I can actually say great job. You

(21:26):
still have two more opportunities to screw up. Okay, I'm
counting on you. We're counting on you. How about the
Hawks earlier tonight. You know, we haven't talked about high
school football, but we start in a couple of weeks
from tonight. Your Hawks, you know, great run last year,

(21:46):
moving up to six A. We've got a lot to
talk about, Eddie. All right, Eddie Garrison coming up, schoolboard update,
We're back talking more. We're gonna talk some baseball with
Brendan King coming up on Indiana Sports Stock.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
With this Indiana Sports Talk scoreboard update, I'm Ati Garrison.
Let's recap the scores from today in this update. Next
update in fifteen minutes, i'll preview what's coming your way
tomorrow throughout the course of the day. Saint Louis Cardinals
were victorious over the Chicago Cubs today, five to nothing.
Cardinals a game over five hundred. They're fifty nine and
fifty eight. Chicago drops to sixty six and forty nine.

(22:23):
Michael or Matthew Boyd is picking up the loss tonight
for Chicago at eleven and five, and Saint Louis will
look to extend their winning streak over Chicago tomorrow afternoon.
The Pittsburgh Piots have won two of the four games
against the Cincinnati Reds. They win tonight three to two
because of a two run triple by Brian Reynolds in

(22:44):
the bottom of the eighth inning. Cincinnati has now lost
three consecutive games. They are sixty and fifty seven. The
Detroit Tigers picked up a win today over the Los
Angeles Angels courtesy of a pinch hit, three run home
run and the bottom of the eighth inning from Matt Vierling.
Kyle Finnegan, the newly acquired closer for the Tigers, one
two three with two strikeouts in the bottom of the

(23:05):
night to pick up his twenty three save, twenty third
save of the season. Chicago White Sox falled in Cleveland
Guardians today nine to five. Tanner byby eight to nine.
On the season. He goes five and the third, gives
up four runs, strikes out seven. Aaron Savale now three
and seven after giving going up nine earned runs in
three and a third innings. Minor League baseball, the Indianapolis

(23:27):
Indians fell to the Omaha Stormchasers two to one. They
had a chance in the eighth inning, runners on first
and third and no ouncerer, unable to capitalize. Howard Kellman
recapped that earlier. Brendan King will join us in a
matter of moments to recap the South Being Cups eight
to five win over the Fort Waynton Caps. For Network
Indiana Sports, I'm att A Garrison.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
Welcome back everyone on Bob Lovel. This is Network Indiana's
Indiana Sports Song season number thirty two. Thank you for listening.
We started this in August of nineteen ninety four with
eight radio stations, most of whom are still with us,

(24:15):
and I cannot tell you how much that means to me.
I appreciate you doing that. The idea was. You know,
small stations around our state spend a lot of time
with high school sports on Friday and Saturday nights, and
we came in with an idea that we could help
them extend their audience until midnight if we did some

(24:41):
interesting programming and talked about games around the state. And
I will tell you that when we pitched that idea
to the executives at Network Indiana, the immediate response was,
it's an interesting idea, we just don't think it's going
to work. Eddie Garrison tell you we had I had

(25:01):
that conversation years ago. Don't think it's gonna work. It's
you know, it's a neat idea, interesting idea, we just
don't see how it's gonna work. And Scott Eiker and
I had to try to explain to him, well, we
weren't sure it would work either, but it was a
bet we were willing to make. And they decided to

(25:23):
go with an ex basketball college basketball coach, ex college
basketball coach with no radio or communication training whatsoever, and
give him the keys to the store and let him
go with it. Can you imagine making that decision.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
Not at all, not at all an easy one at
the time, but look it paid off.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
Well, you know what you think about it? Friday night,
You've done this, you've played U you understand what this is.
High School football, high school basketball are a big deal
in our state. Absolutely, they're They're huge, and on Friday
and Saturday nights, small stations and small towns are making

(26:11):
money and keeping their doors open with their sports coverage.
Their high school sports coverage is an integral part of
a great number of our affiliated stations around the state.
It's incredibly important to all of us. And so the
idea was, you believe I was actually encouraging people to
call me and talk about games. And so obviously that changed,

(26:34):
but the start was I would give this eight hundred
number and ask people, beg people literally to call the show.
And the idea was, if you've gone to a game,
call me. Don't talk about the game, talk about your
favorite team, talk about your son, talk about your nephew,
your next door neighbor, those kinds of things. And we

(26:57):
found what we found out was we were get calls
concentrated in certain areas, most of the time from establishments
that sold alcohol, and our callers were, you know, in
search of the right term. I tend to settle on

(27:19):
well lubricated when they called the show, and so you
never really knew what you were going to get from
your callers. Number One, we didn't get a lot, and
the ones we got were you know, sometimes you wish
they hadn't called. And so you know, remember vividly we

(27:41):
used to meet every Monday morning kind of decompress and
over the weekend and come in and talk about how
the weekend went on the show. And to begin with
those conversations with Bob, you need to get a whole
lot better in a hurry, And then it would be
we had the discussion about the types of the volume

(28:01):
of callers and the types of callers, and in my
mind became very parent. I told him, I said, look,
we just need to we need to not take listener calls,
which was kind of a gutty thing to do, because
sports talk radio takes listener calls. I might be the
only host of a sports talk show who doesn't take

(28:21):
listener calls. Not because I don't want to. I mean,
I care very much about our listeners. Without them, I'm
smart enough to understand we don't have radio show. But
in terms of managing a show, managing a radio show.
You know this, you do it. You've hosted radio shows.
You got to get your commercial breaks in, you got
to get them onto special and arn't show. You got
to get them in on time and all that stuff.

(28:43):
And I felt like I could better manage the time
if I had better control over who was calling. And
now the onus is on me to get those kinds
of people to call. That, as you can understand, has
not been an easy task over the past thirty one years.
It continues to be a challenge, and some more challenging
than others. So that's that's kind of how it got started.

(29:07):
You know, for whatever reason we're still on. I think
the reason we're still on after all these years is, look,
it's great to listen. We want to hear about high
school sports. We want to hear about those great stories.
We want to hear that coach who won his first game.
We want to hear that team that broke a ten
game losing streak or twenty game losing streak. We want
to hear from that coach who's team who's sitting on

(29:29):
the bus and they're all yelling and screaming because they
just broke a thirty game losing streak. We want to
hear those stories, and we want to hear about the
shot at the buzzer that wins the game or the
you know, the fifty yard field goal from a freshman
who's never done it before. We want to hear those stories.
And throughout the years, we've been able to bring them
those things.

Speaker 2 (29:50):
Yeah, absolutely, and those were the reasons why I tuned
in when I was leaving you know, Decatur Central High
school football games when I was in high school as well.
You know, you hear how teams did or as you say,
how your team did, and from I was calling in,
whether it was the coach or a broadcaster, whatever the
case may be. And all at the same time, you're
getting updates every fifteen minutes to find out how teams

(30:10):
and your conference played that night, how other teams are
you know, in the day and age of you know,
travel sports, whether you play you know, AAU basketball or
travel baseball, if you had any buddies that played football,
you find out how they did. So yeah, I mean
there's just so much history with the show, obviously, and
that's why it's been around for now thirty two years.

Speaker 1 (30:28):
And if I had a dime for every time people said,
I can't wait to get in my car to listen
to the scores. I could. I should retire with that
amount of money, because that's what people have said from
day one. Hey, I love listening to those scores. And
I would occasionally say, so, do you listen for anything

(30:49):
other than the scores? You mean? They're like, do you
listen to me? And oh yeah, yeah, you know you're okay,
but listen, I really want to hear those scores. And frankly,
I've been a okay with that from day one. I'm
fine with it. I don't get paid by the word,
so it's okay. Whatever you want to do with me.
All right, tell me what I'm watching tomorrow, or no,

(31:11):
tell me what I'm talking about tomorrow. And on the show,
what should I be talking about tomorrow? We got listen,
what a weekend we have. We have NASCAR, we have
Indie car So you got to get your race, your
race fix on you. You're all set, so you know
we got racing, clearly we have We're getting ready for

(31:33):
college football, for the NFL big baseball fan that you
and I are. We have that. We've talked about the fever,
which I still think is just an absolutely devastating situation.
And they've been playing so well, been playing as well
as anybody in the league, and even in the absence

(31:56):
of Caitlyn Clark. And I know I'm hard on this subject.
I don't mean to, but it's it's just so's it's
so interesting because you know, the Fever they have captured
everybody's attention quite frankly, by just going out there and
playing basketball the way it's supposed to be played.

Speaker 2 (32:16):
Yeah, I mean, it's the state of Indiana, coach, and yeah,
basketball here. And of course you're coming off the year
that the Indiana Pacers has, so there's a lot of momentum,
a lot of buzz, a lot of fan interest in
Pacer sports and entertainment. And you have Caitlin Clark, you
have some of the additions they may now it didn't
pan out obviously with Dewana Bonner, but it took some time.
You bring back Stephanie White with roots to the Fever franchise,

(32:37):
and you know, the state of Indiana, with your growing
up here and going to Purdue, being a part of
the championship winning team with the boy the Makers, a
part of the first team with the Indiana fever, and
so there was just so much momentum, and it was
a little bit of a frustration through the first month
or so the season, just because it's like, oh, you
know how good this team could be, and it's just
like they're running some games to bad teams and they

(32:59):
would have leads going into the fourth quarter and they
would blow them, and all sorts of different things were
going on. But they've got to get it all going
tomorrow and they'll they'll have to do it with one
guard as of right now, and Kelsey Mitchell and you'll
be talking about that tomorrow, whether you've got John Nolan
or maybe Pat Boiling or somebody calling into the show,
maybe even Scott Way.

Speaker 1 (33:17):
We have Scottie Agnes from the while it's calling us
tomorrow night. Pat Boyling on vacation had the audacity to
go on vacation calling me, so what are you gonna do?
All right, Eddie? Final score board update coming with Eddie Garrison.
We're back talking some baseball on Indiana Sports Stock with.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
This Indiana Sports Tock scoreboard update, I Meti Garrison. Here's

Speaker 1 (35:25):
Welcome. Back everyone This Is Indiana Sports talk season. Thirty
two glad you're. With us time to. Talk baseball four
Waying ten caps beat To The south bend, Excuse Me
South bend cubs beat the four Win ten caps tonight
eight five with me the voice Of The South. Bend Cubs, Brendan,

(35:45):
King Hello.

Speaker 5 (35:46):
BRENDAN coach i love the sound of. All that it
is great to hear you back on, the AIR and
i can't wait to be back with you.

Speaker 1 (35:52):
This fall, My man i'm looking forward. To It mike
moss called with the bad news from his perspective and
tells me That the cubs might in fact be the
hottest baseball team in. The, country well that.

Speaker 5 (36:05):
Could Be the cubs definitely have the hottest player at
the play to, the, country coach and That's Catcher. Aril
armis among every single baseball player and professional baseball coach
in big leagues or, Minor leagues Cubs Catcher aril armis
as the best batting average in the Month. Of august
he is getting six twenty what one.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
Hole to start. The, month no you're Making this you're making.
THIS up i, am.

Speaker 5 (36:30):
Not coach in this Series Against, fort wayne he has
at least three hits in all four games played and
four RBIs back On both Tuesday. And wednesday it is
the hottest Stretch arguably i've ever seen in a matter
of a week at the plate For, aril armis who
was a fifth round pick Of The chicago cubs back.
Last year so he is really ignited, this, offense coach

(36:50):
and Suddenly The South bend cubs are just two games
back of a playoff spot Behind your. Beloit skycarp it'll
Be the cubs in the skycarp next Week in wisconsin
and what's to be the biggest series of.

Speaker 1 (37:01):
THE season, i mean, no offense but why is he
Still In south bend hitting?

Speaker 5 (37:06):
That, well well it was a tough start at the
Play for ari. This year now he is one of
the best Defensive catchers i've had in my time in minor.
League baseball it's just been a matter of getting things
going at. The plate still, relatively young twenty two, years old, so,
really coach he's rounding in the forum for the first time.
This YEAR so i Think the cubs are very much
happy with him being Here In, south bend, getting confident

(37:29):
having not stretches at. The plate this is where. He
struggled he's hitting in the one fifties coach for pretty
much all. This, season now the season, batting average the
season batting average coaches at. TWENTY six i think. About
that he has been so hot at. The dish he's
gone from one to fifty in the first four months to.
Twenty six that's how good he's been Here.

Speaker 1 (37:48):
In august i've never heard of anybody hitting six hundred in.

Speaker 5 (37:51):
Them, all oh in the first week, of, IT right,
I mean i.

Speaker 4 (37:55):
Don't know is?

Speaker 5 (37:56):
THAT sustainable i, don't know but.

Speaker 1 (38:00):
At, least yeah don't against, The games.

Speaker 5 (38:03):
No coach Ari l armis has four straight games with
multiple hits Here Against fort wayne and nine RBIs in.
The series so this guy has. Been exceptional but really
it's a team wins tonight Where the cubs came back
from a two to one hole early and put up
four runs in the, Eighth inning so good.

Speaker 1 (38:17):
Night overall no way to pitch, around him if, you
Know if i'm the, opposing team haven't they figured out
how to how to slow him down and pitch? Around
him clearly, they haven't at least.

Speaker 5 (38:26):
Not yet and you know a couple of those times
he was, on, Base coach he was on base in
twelve straight played appearances to.

Speaker 1 (38:32):
Begin the series and took a couple of walks.

Speaker 5 (38:34):
As, well so, as mentioned hottest hitter in all Of baseball,
big leagues. Minor leagues there is nobody in all of
baseball with A better august batting Average than cubs Catcher.

Speaker 1 (38:44):
Aril armis and the beauty, FOR you i mean in,
YOUR career i mean this is you may never. SEE
that i would be stunned if you, see this, but
again in, Your career i'd be.

Speaker 5 (38:53):
Shocked too the only thing that has, Come close coach
was last year our. Second basement His Name's. Pedro ramirez
he's a Top thirty. Cup prospect in the Month of
may he had a twenty five for forty eight stretch at.
The plate that's As as i've. Ever seen But for
ari in a you know what, is It it's. August
eighth i've never seen a guy in the first eight

(39:13):
Months of, i'm sorry in the first eight days of
a month hit six. Hundred plus that's. Just.

Speaker 1 (39:18):
Remarkable yeah the remarkable thing About the cubs is they're.
Pitching staff they're putting up some numbers that are. Are.

Speaker 5 (39:26):
Phenomenal Coach since, july Third The South bend cubs pitching
staff has the LOWEST team Elra In Minor league baseball
two point four. To one pretty. Darn GOODS so i
tell you you're giving up less than two and a
half runs for. A Game the cubs are getting these
great stretches at. The plate they were Also Added, cade

(39:46):
snell the fifth round pick Of the cubs this year Out,
of alabama so some reinforcements are coming In And south
bend has won three of the first Four Against Fort wayne,
here well they'll play The ting caps over the weekend
and has mentioned huge series of battle for first Place,
on tuesday Starting.

Speaker 1 (40:01):
In beloit, all right hang on through, this break will
wrap up. The, night okay you. Got it, welcome, back
everyone wrapping up the night with the, Man Himself, Brendan
king voice Of The South. End cubs cubs meet, To
four Wayne ten caps tonight eight. To five they are
the hottest team. In baseball, all right what's happening tomorrow

(40:22):
With the cubs And the caps or, you know we.
Get again cubs playing awfully, well still, you know looking
good for.

Speaker 5 (40:30):
Postseason, PLAY yeah, i mean that's one of the most
exciting sentences you, can, say coach That The South bend
cubs are the hottest team. IN baseball, i mean it's
pretty exceptional when you look at how we started. THE season,
i mean, The coach i'll give you This Stat The
South bend cubs started the season four and twenty three on.

Speaker 1 (40:47):
The Road The South.

Speaker 5 (40:49):
Bend cubs listen, to, this Now The South bend cubs in. Road,
Play coach i'm going back to the. Scorebook here i'll
get this. For You the cubs are now twenty two
and thirty three on.

Speaker 1 (40:58):
The road.

Speaker 5 (40:59):
That's exception the rebound they've had here in the second
half on, the road so that has really led to
this playoff Picture Where south ben is even. In it and,
as Mentioned with beloit losing Tonight To quad Cities And south,
ben's Win the cubs are only going to be two
games back of a playoff spot, come tomorrow and then
the most important series of, The, season coach Starts on

(41:20):
tuesday Night IN Beloit Abc supply stadium where it's a six.
Game series so If the cubs go and have Success, In,
beloit coach you're talking about a First Play South ben
cubbs team when we're talking on this show, next weekend
which sounds pretty good. To me, but first you got
to take care of business Tomorrow. And Sunday and, i'm
Sure As mike moz, Told, you coach with all due
respect To The, fort waitningtoncafs their roster has been just.

Speaker 1 (41:43):
Devastated by the.

Speaker 5 (41:44):
Trade Deadline and i'm sure he filled you In With
leo DeVries and brandon Ned And ryan Bergert And brandon
butterworth being traded From the Padres As san diego is
aggressive at. The deadline, You, know coach this is. Simple
baseball you're a, baseball fan you understand. The game when
you are playing teams that have their roster decimated, like
this you just need to take care of business because

(42:05):
you are the better team if You're The South. Bend
cubs Now four white has put up a nice fight.
This Week the cubs have actually or four winning is
actually scored first at all four games. This Week south
bend's gonna have to come back tomorrow and, score first
get on the, board early and give themselves an easier
path to earning.

Speaker 1 (42:19):
A deputy you're having fun. Right now how could you not?
Have fun how could you not have fun with?

Speaker 5 (42:26):
That group how can you not have fun coming to
the field every day in the. First place, You know
i'm super lucky to be able to, do this and
you know it's a fun group, of guys, and hey
when you're good and when you're on this path and
you have, a chance there's nothing better than coming to
the field every day and being able to call a.
Baseball games so looking forward to catching up with you.

Speaker 1 (42:46):
Tomorrow night Sol'm On, Brendan king boys Of The south.

five winners over the four Win ten caps play each. Other, tomorrow,
