Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back everyone. I'm Bob Lovel. This is Indiana Sports Talk.
Glad you could join us. We have one more hour
to go. Coming up. We're going to talk a little
bit of high school football with Paul Condrey and some
minor league baseball that's coming up this half hour right now,
though we turn it over. It's a busy, busy nights.
You need to be caught up on all that's going
(00:20):
on in the sports world. Best man to do that.
Network Indiana's Corbyn Lingenfelter.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Thank you, coach. It's great to be with you and
Kylin Tally on this Friday night in central Indiana. One
week until high school football kicks off across the state,
and with all the games that are going on next Friday,
we haven't had much time to talk about Major League baseball.
They might say that's a good thing, but let's fix
that now Tonight. The Pirates take down the Cubs three
(00:49):
two two, six hits for the Pirates, six hits for
the Cubs, one error committed by Pittsburgh. The Brewers take
down Cincinnati today ten to eight, seventeen hits for Milwaukee
to Cincinnati's nine. The Reds also committed three errors other
games from around the MLB. Tonight, Chicago White Sox fall
(01:12):
to the Kansas City Royals three to one, seven hits
for the Socks, eight hits for the Royals. The Indiana
Fever fall to the Washington Mystics eighty eight to eighty four.
Elijah Boston leads the team in scoring with twenty points,
eight of thirteen from the field, four to six from
free throw range, and she had nine rebounds, one away
(01:35):
from finishing the night with a double double. Kelsey Mitchell
was the second leading scorer with fourteen points, going six
at nineteen from the field, one of six from three
point range, one of two from the free throw line.
In terms of the team shooting, Indiana shot forty five
percent from the field, thirty three percent from beyond the arc,
(01:56):
and hit eleven of their sixteen free throws. Defense, though,
it was a dominant night for the Washington Mystics in
terms of scoring fifty two percent from the field, forty
seven percent from three point range, eighty four percent on
their free throws. They went to the line twenty six
(02:17):
times in this game. The Fever will be off tomorrow
before taking on the Connecticut Sun at one o'clock on Sunday,
Indiana is also eighteen sixteen on the year ten and
eight at home, the Indianapolis Colts are gearing up for
their game against the Green Bay Packers. That's a preseason
game number two, the only home preseason game for Indianapolis
(02:40):
this season, and they had a joint practice yesterday and
head coach Shane Steiken addressed the media on what they
should expect in terms of finally deciding who will be
the Week one starter against Miami.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
We'll work through that, you know, we got obviously had today,
we got a preseason game, we got some practice next week,
and we'll work through it to again. I don't have
exact timetable on it, but sooner than later it would
be nice.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
You will tell us how I said. But do you
think you know where you going with this? I don't.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
I mean, I want to see how this thing plays
out on Saturday, and then we'll see, you know, early
next week and see where it goes.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
That's Stiken on the Colts YouTube page. Indianapolis and Green
green Bay kicks off at one o'clock Eastern tomorrow. If
you're heading downtown for the game, be aware traffic could
be a nightmare as there is construction going on all
around central Indiana. One week from now, we will be
talking about high school football. Some of the games that
(03:37):
you can see. Andreen will be at Maryville at eight
o'clock to Call, host Angola at seven o'clock. Martinsville is
taking you on. Bedford, North Lawrence, Greenfield, Central and Beach
Grove'll meet at seven o'clock. Ben Davis and Cathedral meet

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Welcome back everyone. I'm Bob Lovell. This is Indiana Sports Suck.
Speaker 4 (04:47):
All right.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Coming up, we're gonna talk more high school football. Just
a reminder now you know this next Friday night we
get into season number thirty two of our high school
football coverage on Indiana Sports Talk. And I will tell
you these thirty two years have gone or thirty one
(05:11):
years have gone quickly. And that first night we were
on eight radio stations around the state with a concept
that had not been done before. And that was thanks
to Scott Eaker, who created this show when he was
(05:33):
the news and Sports director of Network Indiana back in August.
He had been my play by play radio announcer at
Iepui my last two years there, and then when I
stepped away from coaching, he called and said, you know
the classic what are you going to do? I said,
(05:55):
I don't really know, and he said I have an
idea for a radio show I think you'd be great
for and I said okay. So we sat down, had lunch,
talked about it and then decided we'd go ahead. And
you know, I don't have a job, so why not
(06:15):
and we decided to do it and on the personnel
it Scott's the force of his personality. He convinces eight
radio stations to take a chance on a radio show,
the idea of which was to be a statewide call
in show on Friday night and Saturday night. The concept
(06:37):
was high school football in the fall, high school basketball
and the winner are very very important to the communities
in our state. And Network Indiana is a statewide radio network.
It provides news and other amenities to radio stations around
(07:03):
the state, big and small, and a lot of these
radio stations are paying their bills quite literally with the
revenue they're generating on Friday night for football on Friday
and Saturday for basketball. And so the thought was most
of these stations are music intensive stations and after the
(07:25):
you know, they break format to go to sports, and
Scott's idea was they would not go back to music
after being on a sports being with sports, that was
the idea. So the thought was, we will make opportunities
available to sell commercials and advertising by bringing you complementary
(07:50):
programming sports programming from the end of your game until midnight,
so you will have another hour and a half two
hours of available commercials to sell in your community. And
it was something that no one had ever done before,
not in our state. ESPN Radio was just getting started about,
(08:12):
you know, four or five months before we did, and
their game day concept had not started yet either, and
so we were kind of at the forefront when we
did this. And I will tell you in that first
meeting with Network Indiana's executives, they looked at looked me
in the eye and said, we don't think this will work.
And I didn't know any better. I'm a basketball coach.
(08:35):
Scott on the again, his power of his personality says,
you know, I think there's something there, and so he
gets things. The foundation of it started and we started
our show in August of nineteen ninety four, as I mentioned,
with eight stations, and that first night, folks, those of
(08:56):
you who aren't big fans of me and my approach,
you would have loved me. On that first night. I
was dreadful. I was horrible. Many of you still think
I haven't gotten any better, and that may in fact
be the case, but I was. We were inviting listeners
to call our show. The concept was we wanted you
(09:18):
to go to a game and then we wanted you
after that game to call us and give us your
thoughts and impressions and kind of share those feelings with
people around the state. Kind of shared experience type of
situation where everybody at games and you can talk about them.
And so we did that, and that's how we started.
(09:39):
And I recall on that first night giving that number,
reading that number a gazillion times, and we might might
have had half a dozen phone calls. It was. It
was the longest and we were on for three hours
back in the day, the longest three hours of my life,
if I recall, I was horrible. The show was horrible,
(10:00):
horrible enough that a great number of those eight stations
called on Monday and said, hey, you told the sisters
gonna be better than what it is. It needs to
get better in a hurry or else. So we made it.
We made it to this point.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
All right.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
Scoreboard update coming up. We're gonna talk some football on
Indiana Sports Tom.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
I'm Gorman Lingavelter with this network Indiana Scoreboard Update. Indiana
Pacers head coach Rick Carlyle shared with The Fan Morning
Show what he expects Benedict Matherin's role to be next season.
Speaker 6 (10:37):
It's important to Ben that to be a starter.
Speaker 5 (10:39):
I know that.
Speaker 7 (10:40):
You know, he's told me that. You guys can see that,
you know, with the way that he plays, So yeah,
it's you know why wait, you know he's the starter
on day one.
Speaker 6 (10:53):
You know. The caveat to that is that he's got
to continue to move his game in the direction of
being a highly functioning part of the Indiana Pacers.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
That is Carlyle on the Fame Morning Show on our
flagship station ninety three to five one oh seven to
five to the fan here in Indianapolis. The Pacers kick
off the twenty twenty five to twenty six campaign on Thursday,
October twenty third, against the team they just met in
the NBA Finals, the Oklahoma City Thunder. That's a home game.
Tip off is at seven thirty. Following that is three
(11:28):
straight road games, first at Memphis on that following Saturday,
another game on Sunday against Minnesota, and then they finished
that three game road series in Dallas on October twenty nine.
The final game of the regular season for the Pacers
will come on Sunday, April twelfth. That is a home
game against Detroit, tip off at six a clock. That
(11:50):
schedule was announced earlier this week during the NBA schedule release.
The Washington Mystics take down the Indiana Fever eighty eight
to eighty four. A Leah Boston leads a team in
scoring with twenty points and of thirteen from the field,
four of six from free throw range.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
Welcome back, everyone, This is Indiana Sports Talk. I'm Bob Lovell.
Glad you're with us. Sneak it up on high school football.
A week from tonight, we're going to be playing I
mean playing high school football in our state. The man
who literally wrote the book on football, especially high school
(12:30):
football in our state, is a Hall of Fame broadcaster,
also a member of the Indiana Football Hall of Fame.
Biggest friend football has in the state of Indiana and
has been with me all thirty two years of our show.
Honored to call in my friend, thrilled to have him
(12:50):
with us. It's Paul Condry from the Regional Radio Sports
Network and the Indiana Football Digest. Hello, Paul, coach. Great
to be with you.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
It's as always, I've said it a thousand times during
the course of our time together. In the fall. It's
one of the greatest privileges I have to be able
to talk a little American tackle football with you on
a Friday, and of course tonight was the night that
most of the teams were getting underway with their scrimmages.
Beautiful night for football. I was over at Historic Steel
(13:21):
Stadium in Mitchellwalk and tonight is Valparaiso. It's matched up
against Mitchell Walker. Good to see the boys getting after it.
Most importantly, good to see coaches getting engaged with their
athletes as you did and as I did. The greatest
responsibilities we've ever had in our lives was making an
(13:41):
impact in the lives of the kids that we coach,
and man, it's good to see those guys coaching them up.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
Those are two pretty good football teams that have high expectations,
aren't they.
Speaker 4 (13:51):
Yeah, yes, no question. Valparaiso under under Bill Marshall has
been just done tremendous work, state championship already underneath his belt.
Keith Kinder, who took over for the legendary Bart Curtis,
has taken Misliawaka to a whole nother level. Two great coaches.
The neat thing about tonight these teams are not in
(14:13):
the same class now like they were at one time.
And so Mischawaka team has loaded with some offensive talent
and they're gonna be really really good, very talent, and
they run, of course that option as well as anybody
in the state does. And then Valparaiso got an outstanding
quarterback and hosts a kid. Their only issue, right, I
(14:33):
think early on it was pretty evident tonight is their
offensive line needs a little bit of work. They've only
got one guy coming back, but they got one of
the best line coaches on the planet, and there Kennedy.
I think they'll be okay when of the dust settles
at the end of the campaign. In class five A.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
Last week, you and I talked about five A and
six A let us and we talked about four A
two If I remember so.
Speaker 4 (14:57):
We talked to Littoia was a little cooe Perrie.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
If you will b a little bit of that. Let's
let's focus on UH three A, two A and single
A. All right, three A last year's chance for win, Bishop
Lewers uh. In your magazine, The Indiana Football Digest, you
have old Miss Mississini one. Number one lures to mcconaqua, Cascade, Lawrenceburg,
modern day Knox and South Ridge in the top whatever
(15:22):
that number is. So tell me about these schools. Yeah,
these schools lures. It's one of those that's kind of
theirs until somebody takes it from them.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
You know, the reality of it is, we we are
guaranteed to have a brand new three A champion because
Heritage Hills, who won the championship. What a great year
for Todd Wookersonting Company. And that team's loaded. Uh, that
team is good enough to win four A with the
talent that they have coming back. And that's one of
those situations as you and I talked about before last week,
we talked about Decater Central winning their title in five A. Yeah,
(15:53):
how are they going to compete when they go to
six A. I think we're going to be talking about
the same thing when we talk about Heritage Hills. Are
they going to make that transition? I think that they will.
I really do believe that they got Tyler Ruxxs. We're
doing a feature on him coach that will come out
next week on Hols dot com. Is probably the best
tight end in Indiana and maybe the best tight end
in Indiana in the last fifteen years. He's going to Oklahoma.
(16:15):
That's how good he is, so you got him, and
then you got Jet Goldsberry who's a tremendous athlete. Also,
another kid is going to be going to play in
the SEC, so you look at them being moved up
to four A, so it kind of opens up the field.
Lawres has been a traditional power for many, many years.
Kyle Lindsey has done a formidable job there. They got
some solid kids coming back. But I think you're going
(16:36):
to see the teams like Lawrenceburg get back on trek.
The big question that in my own mind's high is
what's Evansville modern day going to do without the lord
of the rings there? I Gable has retired now, so
it'll be interesting to see where they're at.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
No.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
And obviously you look at some talented that Troy West
outstanding quarterback and more one a prolific program. But the
big question, uh, and when we sat down and we
worked on our our preseason, Dandy does and we talk
to ourselves about collectively as a group, how are you
going to put ole miss a team that has never
won a state championship? Right, but they've got some talented
(17:14):
players are running back is house standing and we can
go up and down the line of I got some
kids on that group that that could really really stretch
the field, and I think that that's going to be
I I could not bet one iota on who's going
to win this championship because I think three eight has
a tremendous amount of bats. You got Knox with a
(17:35):
great uh Russ Raki coaching there, Westlofiet. It's always a
permanal power. Same thing with South Ridge, Gibson Southern. So
it's three a's wide open. Coach. I really believe that
moving into uh this uh this time of high school
football in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
That's a great point. I agree with you one hundred
percent and makes it fun because you're you're talking about
some schools that are talented and maybe can make the
break through like a lawrenceburg Russ Ratkey is. Wherever he coaches,
his teams are contenders. The Southardge story is a good one.
Gibson Southern a great story. So really a lot to
talk about in three A. Let's move over to two A.
(18:14):
Adam Central won that a year ago. They're coming back.
Did not get bumped up. Lynton, Stockton, Brownstown Central, Lafia Central,
Catholic Lutheran Andrean Heritage, Christen Lapel, Paoli, Eastern Greentown, Triton, Central,
Eastbrook teams that you have thought of highly in your
(18:35):
magazine in terms of looking at this season.
Speaker 4 (18:38):
Danny, doesn't we four parochial schools in that group, you know,
coach here, I think you can think back on about
fifteen years ago about the big fervor about you know, hey, listen,
there should be a separate class for the parochial schools.
Speaker 7 (18:52):
Right that.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
That ship has sailed left the harbor and it has
sunk somewhere in the ocean somewhere because not everybody's concerned
about athletes transferring from point A to point b. Right,
depending upon where you're at. That has changed. But Mike
Moser has done a great job. And you and I
we talk about this almost every time we've had conversations.
Adam Central is the perfect story. This is what happens
(19:19):
when you get a chance to have your players for
fifteen weeks. You know, you know, they've been playing in
state championship. It's like a snow tomorrow. They win it
all again. Last year, yes, to get moved up and
once again I think Mike would be the first person
to tay you, Hey, if you want to move me up,
move me down, I'll play anywhere you want me to play.
But if my kids are going to get a chance
to play for fifteen weeks, I've got a great chance
(19:41):
to be able to do that. And then we've got
we've got some perennial powers in here that have won championship.
Lutheran Dave Pash is as good as coach as there
is in Indiana. In Brownstown Central read may a little
known trivia. He's one of only two coaches in Indiana
football currently right now that were with me when I
(20:02):
started our book thirty three years ago. Wow. The other
question is that'll be that's your homework assignment for next
week to tell me who the other coach is. But
you got Lofiat Central Catholic in there, and you got
some other teams. Lapel got a great young quarterback. What
can you say that we haven't already talked about when
we've talked about Triton Central, one of the greatest ambassadors
for the game of football, one of the greatest coaches
(20:23):
I've ever met in my life, right of Grace, the
legendary Tim Abeles. So you look at there are some
great coaches great the traditional powers there. But once again,
I don't know if I could tell you coach, I'm
going to guarantee you that Brownstown Central or Adam Central's
going to win the title because I think there is
so much parody and some tremendously talented teams in there.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
Some cool stories though that are there, and some teams
that are, you know, poised to make a breakthrough. Lapel
is one, Paoli is one. I mean, these are two teams.
You know, they have not been in this highly rated
as long as some of these others have. But those
are cool stories.
Speaker 4 (21:02):
No question about it. And I think you look at
Lapel outstanding quarterback situation there Eastbrook and once again another
great coach, right and Jeff Adamson. He's a guy that
you know, hey, listen, you got to play ball with
that guy. You gotta, uh, you're just not going to
outscrap that group. So it's really interesting to see Andre
and has got one of the best offensive lineman in
(21:24):
the in the country. You look at where they're at
there playing at a brutal league in the Northwest Crossroads Conference.
They're ready to go. Went and Stockton. I like what
they've been able to do there, and there's there's just
so much fun in two A because you can't say, hey, listen,
this is going to happen, because you just don't know,
because it's that that's that much talent. Eastern green Town
(21:44):
has got some tremendously talented kids, and uh, I like
two AS. It's going to be a fun trip for
everybody to have watching that unfold.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
All right, Paula needs you to hang on through the
scoreboard update. Can you do that?
Speaker 4 (21:56):
I can do that.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
We'll come back talk some single a football with Paul
Welldrey on Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Up.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
I'm corbyin Lincoln Bevelter with this Network Indiana Scoreboard Update.
Games that you can look forward to a week from tonight.
Evansville BOSSI is at Vincent's, Lincoln Central is at Evansville,
Modern Day North is at Castle, and Wrights takes on Harrison.

Concordia's at Cecina, and Dwanger is at Ron Colley Lowers
takes on Leo. Northrop takes on new Haven, Marion host
South and Fountain Central will be at Southmont. Frankfurt is
(22:48):
at Clinton Central. Franklin Central is at Perry Meridian. Newcastle
host Franklin County. Frontier is at Clinton Prairie. Garrett is
at Adams Central, Goshen at Fair Greenwood at Seymour, Griffith
at Highland, McCutcheon at Garon. Catholic Michigan City will take
on Hanover Central. Belmont is at his hosting. Heritage Westfield
(23:12):
takes on Homestead, Indian Creek at Western, Attics at Lutheran,
Ritter at Tech excuse me Arsenal Tech, short Ridge at Purdue, Inglewood,
Tinley at Edinburgh and Indianapolis. Washington is at Gary West Heading.
A little bit further down, we have Southridge at North Posey,
(23:34):
Spaulding is at Brownsburg. Speedway takes on Heritage, Christian Taylor
at North White to comme See at Princeton. Tippecanoo Valley
takes on Plymouth, Tipton at Frankton and Try at Union City.
Speaker 1 (23:51):
Welcome back, everyone, This is Indiana Sports Talk. We're talking
with Paul Condrey from the regional radio Sports Network in
Indiana Football Digest in the magazine, paulk he Andrew picks
his top twelve, fifteen whatever of class football and who
might be the champions coming up? We turn our attention
(24:13):
to single A. You have South Putnham sitting atop your picks,
defending Shamps, Providence, North Justin, South Adams, North de Catur,
Carol le Offlora, Miland Springs, Valley, Knightstown, Taylor, and Frontier.
Pretty good teams there, but I always start out with
defending Shamps if they have the opportunity.
Speaker 4 (24:34):
Right, and I think you look at the wonderful job
that Preston Kemp did last year as the quarterback leading
Providence to a state championship. He just kind of mesmerized everybody.
And of course they beat a really good North Judson team.
Both those teams we got him at two or three.
But South Putnham, which was you know, one or two
plays of way of making it to Indianapolis. They're group
(25:00):
that was underclassman Leyden a year ago. But I like
that the bent and kid they're running back is a
tremendously talented player. You look at Damon Cox, their defensive lineman,
really talented player, Keyan Mowray Shields their linebacker. I mean
they got and then of course you got Drew Klein
defensive back. They've got four kids on our preseason All
(25:24):
State team as guys coming back. They're loaded. The question
is have they figured out how to get past, you know,
the tournament and get to the point to where they're
playing for a state championship. Nord Judson, Sam Pierre. I've
talked with some of the guys down there. They feel
that they have all the pieces of the puzzle to
(25:44):
be able to make another trip back. And of course
then then you run it in and say, okay, well
you should give some props to the teams that was
been defending champion. But I think, once again, I think
Providence caught lightning in a bottle last year. Preston Camp
lived up to all the hype just and just really
kind of willed his team to win. And I think
(26:04):
that what makes him special. But I think mylins is
pros to make a good one North Decatur, North Miami,
and we like them a lot. Springs Valley. I tell
you they've done a tremendous job and with their program
down there, South Adams has always been a competitive program.
So one A, once again, I'm not going to tell you, coach,
like I've done in the past, I'm going to guarantee
(26:24):
you this team is going to win, because honestly, this
just like one in two A and three A, there
is no one prohibited favorite that you can say is
this is we're going to see them in the state finals.
Because you can really can't say that about any of
these teams. It's going to be a great year of
high school football because there is no clear cut favorite
in the bottom classes.
Speaker 1 (26:45):
Yeah, usually when we have these discussions at this particular
time of the year, you have two or three different favorites,
clear favorites in the classes, and you as much as
you know about it and unable to come up with
those types and numbers certainly means it's a wide open
(27:06):
and competitive season.
Speaker 4 (27:08):
You know. If once again, I'm not a gambling person,
and I don't know if anybody who gambles on these
kind of things, but I wouldn't. I wouldn't put a
dime on my money on any of these teams to
say you got to guarantee me this to get to
the finals. I just don't think that as possible. I
do believe, and I mentioned that before I right at
the top, I really believe that Heritage Shells has all
(27:29):
the tools right to be able to make a deep run.
But once again, they're going to have to go through
Stard They're going to have to go through some teams
down in the middle of the state that they're just really,
really tough. And then of course, you know, if they
get there, they you know, they may have to take
on a Mischewaka team, which we talked about really from
the outset. So it's going to be a classic battle
of high school football when we lay them up on
(27:51):
the twenty second of August. I know, I'm excited about
it. It's gonna be your number thirty eight for me. Excited
about being able to be back with my broadcast team
that I've spent that spend the a recent story in
one of our papers up here about my broadcast team,
because we've been together for over thirty some odd years,
and when you've been around the guys Steve McIntyre and
(28:14):
Frank Kilpakowski like I have over these many many years,
I can't wait to get back in the booth with
those cats and just to do what we do. We
love high school football. We love kids, we love being
a part of what is truly the greatest team game
in America.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
Paul Condrey can't do it without you. Congratulations again on
another tremendous magazine and I'll talk to you next Friday Night.
Speaker 4 (28:37):
Sounds great, coach, have a great one.
Speaker 1 (28:39):
Thanks a lot, Paul. Paul Conder from the Regional Radio
Sports Network and Indiana Football Digests talking about high school
football Minor League baseball tonight, four win ten Caps drop
a tough one to Western Michigan five to one. The
voice of the Caps, Mike Moss, joins me, Mike, thanks
for the call. Tough night at the ballpark for the Camps.
Speaker 5 (29:02):
It's been a tough night. It's been a tough week,
and it's been a tough season.
Speaker 4 (29:05):
Bob.
Speaker 5 (29:07):
It's bad enough that we lose five out of six
at South Bend. Brendan is still happy about that, but
we go from the frying pan into the fire because
we're playing West Michigan, which is the krem de la
Creme of the Midwest League. They have the second most
wins in all of Minor League baseball. With their win tonight,
(29:28):
they're seventy seven and forty four only Greensboro from the
South Atlantic League is better at seventy eight and forty three.
And West Michigan High a affiliate to the Detroit Tigers,
and they've lost their best five best players to double
A and they're not missing a beat. Wow, they've got
(29:49):
it all. They lead the Midwest League and team batting average,
their second and lowest ERA, their second in fielding percentage.
They've got it all. And they've won three of the
four games that we played this week against them, and
tonight it was no different. They jump out early and
we just could never get caught up, you know, and
we lose five to one. They out hit us twelve
(30:11):
to two. And we're a team that's searching for an
identity and their team that's searching for a championship.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
Yeah, that's a great way to put it, Mike, And
it makes it makes sense. You don't like it, but
it makes perfect sense. And the minor league baseball. These
are part of the vagaries of minor league baseball. And
then you know, movement is part of it and adjust
to it and sometimes it works out better than others.
(30:42):
Unfortunately it is.
Speaker 5 (30:44):
And the only said thing from our being Fort Wayne's perspective.
Tonight sixty one hundred and sixty fans. Last night over
sixty five hundred fans. You know, so we've had some again,
some big crowds, and tomorrow it's going to be a
big one too, because it's Stand Up to Cancer Night.
We recently lost our office manager of twenty three years
(31:08):
to o varying cancer and we're teaming up at Parkview
Hospital tomorrow night and hoping to have another big crowd
and help raise some money for the family. But now,
you know, we've got twenty six games left, we're nine
games out of a playoff spot. BK in South Bend
much better. They're tied for the second half West Division lead,
(31:30):
and I wish them the best. And for us, we
just got to go out and play and do the
best of our ability and whatever happens happens, and then
get ready for twenty twenty six. And that's the reality
of it.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
Mike Moss from the four Wayinge ten Caps. Ten Caps
lose five to one to West Michigan playing again tomorrow.
Thanks for the call, Mike, I appreciate it. Have a
great night you tube, pop Bob. We're talking tomorrow, Thanks
very much. Staying in Minor League Baseball for the Caps.
Tough night for the South Ben Cubs. Brendan King joyge
(32:06):
Mei South Ben Cubs in Beloit. Beloit wins this one
seven to two tonight, Brendan, thanks to the call. Many
of the things Mike brings up you're suffering through too
with the Cubs, well.
Speaker 8 (32:20):
Except the fact that we're tied for first place, Coach,
And you know, when we talked last weekend, the Cubs
were three games back of the skycarp team for first
in the division. And you know how the old zang
goes in baseball. You can't win them all, and you
literally can't win them all, especially in these six game series, Coach.
But the last few nights has been very positive for
the South Bend Cups, winning three of the first four
(32:42):
here in Beloit. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday were all victories.
And with that Coach, today, for the first time since
twenty twenty two, the South Ben Cubs had sole possession
of first place in the West Division again for the
first time since they won the Midwest League championships. So
heading into tomorrow night, it's going to be a tie
at the top of the Vision and the Cubs are
playing their best baseball the season right now. Just as
(33:03):
we talked about last weekend. If the Cubs had a
good start this weekend Beloit, which they did, you're going
to talk about a first place ball club, which we
are right now.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
You were, you were prophetic, all right. I need you
to hang on through this short break, Okay, you bet,
Brendan King, and I'll come back talk some more baseball
in India. The sports tun I.
Speaker 3 (33:24):
Think, you know, from the last couple of years to now,
just the intensity of practice, you know, being in great
conditioning shape. You know, we've had way more reps than
we've had since I've been here, with the scrimmages, the
long drive drills, the sudden change drills, creating that edge.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
So I really like where our football.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
Team's at, you know, going into you know, the second
preseason game.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
That is head coach Shane Steich in Thursday, after the
joint practice with the Green Bay Packers. I'm Corbin Lingenfelter.
The Colts will take on the Packers for their only
home preseason game coming up at one o'clock tomorrow, so
just under thirteen or a little over thirteen hours away
from them kicking off that game, and the reminder if
(34:03):
you are traveling to that game, traffic, traffic and more traffic,
be expectant of delays. Make sure you plan your route
accordingly and leave in a timely manner. Colton Packers kickoff
preseason game number two, coming up at one o'clock Eastern.
Also coming up this weekend tomorrow at eleven oh five am,
(34:25):
the Live Golf Championships here in Indianapolis, t The tee
off time is scheduled for eleven oh five for round
number two, and Round three will take place Sunday at
ten oh five. The Indiana Fever will be back in
action coming up on Sunday at one o'clock. That game
will be at the Connecticut Sun one o'clock tip off
(34:47):
for that game. Febro Cerly eighteen and sixteen, after the
eighty eight to eighty four loss too the Washington Mystics
earlier on tonight, Eleah Boston of the team at scoring
with twenty points. We are still one week away from
high school football, but for now, I'm Corby Lingenfelter.
Speaker 1 (35:09):
Welcome back, everybody. Brendan king Reach joins us the voice
of the South Bank Cubs. They lose it Belloyd. But
they're in first place. That has a great ring to it,
does it not. You've been through Pennant championships. This team,
this team's poised to make a run, a legitimate run,
are they not?
Speaker 8 (35:28):
Well? And with three full series to play, Coach, the
Cubs are gonna have a chance at it. There is
nothing better. As you said, yeah in September playoff baseball.
Speaker 5 (35:38):
You don't make it a run.
Speaker 8 (35:39):
It's the absolute best, isn't it?
Speaker 1 (35:42):
Well it is especially. I mean the cool thing is
that first half didn't go the way you wanted it to, No, coach, And.
Speaker 8 (35:53):
You know that's a part of minor league baseball that
is so unique where yeah, you are bringing in basically
a brand new ball club and you know you're gonna
get a chance in the second half, excuse me, and
you know you're bringing the new players, you're gonna get
a chance to win it.
Speaker 5 (36:12):
I mean it's a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (36:16):
I love the fact that you get you literally have
two seasons. It's within one. I mean, look at it,
I mean, look at this situation. Sorry, so take me
through what's left to get to a championship.
Speaker 8 (36:29):
Well, we got to wrap up this weekend, Coach, against
the Bloyd skycarp And you know, as I told you
in the first segment, where the Cubs have won three
of the first four here this night, the six game series,
the Cubs have never won, never swept the team.
Speaker 5 (36:46):
In six games.
Speaker 8 (36:47):
So you know, you can't expect to win every ball game, right,
But you know in the six game series, if you
could find a way to take four or six, five
of six, like the Cubs did last week right against
four in kid Caps, you know, the bets the best
you can hope for, Coach, when you're winning series. So
South Benn was able to do that last week against
(37:08):
Port Wynne. We'll see if they can do that again
here against Beloit this weekend.
Speaker 1 (37:13):
All Right, Beloit is pretty good, that's the challenge. They
are a good, solid group, and so you know, getting
a good start in the series is very important. That's
good stuff, that's a great stuff. So how do they
do this tonight? You're just not able to get get
things going on the offensive end tonight.
Speaker 5 (37:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (37:34):
You know, the Cubs put up twelve runs coach back
in the game on Wednesday, So you know you're not
gonna be able to do that every single.
Speaker 5 (37:41):
Night, right, But tonight.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
This is a Beloit team.
Speaker 5 (37:44):
Coach.
Speaker 8 (37:44):
They have both of Miami's first round picks from this year,
Cam Tannerella and I've Arquette. Arquette the number seven overall
pick out of Oregon State. But the Cubs have talent
two coach Cade Snell, who was the fifth round pick
of the Chicago Cubs this year out Alabama. He came
up with his first career RBI tonight. So the Cubs
(38:08):
are playing good ball. And the guy we talked about
last weekend, guy with the name of Ril Armis, who
is South Bend's catcher. Armis coach. He continues to be
baseball's hottest hitter in the month of August. He's batting
five hundred this month. Coach two more hits tonight. The
only guy who we talked about this last week, the
only guy in all of baseball that has a better
(38:31):
August batting average or up to par Is Shoeotani from
the Los Angeles Dodgers. Well, I mean, he can't replicate that.
He has just had an amazing start to the month
of August and he's swinging the best stick in all
of baseball.
Speaker 5 (38:43):
Add the fact that Armis, who.
Speaker 8 (38:45):
Is our catcher he's catching nearly every night, Coach, you
know how tough it is.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
Yeah, he catcher that does it on both sides of
the ball, right, Armis.
Speaker 8 (38:53):
Armis is second in all of baseball in total caught
steelings with forty six. Here this week again, Lloyd, he's
throwing out six sky card base runners. And I'll add
this layer before I turn it back to you. He
has more caught stealings than every single catcher in Major
League Baseball.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
Oh, mine, I'd get excited to go to the ballpark
just to watch this kid play.
Speaker 5 (39:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (39:23):
No, it's amazing. I mean he has all the potential
in the world. And you know, talking to scouts, they
say that his defense is big league ready right now.
It's just a matter of, you know, can you develop
that bat? And so far this year he is.
Speaker 1 (39:33):
Yeah. I'd say that's been asked and answered. All right,
Brendan King, you make monnight. Have a great night, tonight,
great weekend tomorrow. Look forward to talking tomorrow night. Thanks
for the call.
Speaker 5 (39:45):
Looking forward to it, coach, Thanks, thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
Coming up, final break, Final thoughts. This is Indiana Sports Talk.
