Speaker 1 (00:01):
Live from downtown Indianapolis. It is Saturday night and welcome
to Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk. I Meta Garrison. It
is the final show without coach Lovel until next summertime,
and that means high school football is nearing Bob. We'll
be back next weekend, but we still have a lot
to discuss on tonight's show. And every fifteen minutes you'll

(00:21):
hear this voice. It's Network Indiana's landing Coons.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Eddie Garrison. It is a pleasure to be with you
on this Saturday night along with our producer Jace Hodge.
It's an all you Indy crew tonight, feel good Saturday night,
aren't we? Colts Camp back in action. Zaire Franklin has
had his first practice today. We'll hear from Lou on
a rimo here in just a little bit with her.
From the quarterbacks, how they performed, Anthony Richardson a little

(00:46):
bit of a rocky day, Daniel Jones pretty solid. Indiana
Fever last night had an eighty eight to seventy eight
win over the Dallas Wings, making it that fourth straight
win in a road They'll be back in action tomorrow
to play the Seattle Storm in Seattle. The game will
be at three o'clock MLB. Going on tonight, we have

(01:07):
the Speedway Classic at the Bristol Motors Speedway. That game
I'm about to start here in just about ten minutes.
That game between the Cincinnati Reds and the Atlanta Brands.
NASCAR back in action to this weekend at the Iowa Speedway,
the NASCAR Cup Series for the Iowa corn three to fifty,
Chase Brisco on pole position once again the sixth time

(01:29):
this year, and after just winning the poll for the
brick card four hundred last weekend. And we'll get some
results later from today's highve Perks two fifty in the
NASCAR Xfinity Series. All that and much much more to
come ahead for Network and you as Sports some Landa coons.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Nice Chub Landon. We're gonna start the show off on
the right foot. We are joined by Jay Sayer, John
producer here in Network Indiana. The show Indiana Sports Stock
is brought to you by Indiana Donor. Network can sign
up to be an Oregon donor today to help save
lives in the future by going driven the number two
Save dot org. That's the website Driven to Save Lives
dot Org. I'm at a Garrison and I've hosted this

(02:06):
program a couple of times during the course of the summer,
and if you missed any of those, of course, you
can go back on the podcast page at one oh
seven five of thefan dot com and you can click
on the show's tab and go to Indiana sports Stock
and you can download all of our episodes of IST
during the summer, and of course all the time during
the course of the high school football, high school basketball,

(02:28):
pretty much the Iday sports calendar as well. That is
where you can download all of our podcasts, listen to
the conversations that we have on the airwaves wherever you
are tuning in from, and additionally, on social media you
can interact with us. Tonight, it's Landon at the anchor's desk,
So if you got anything to say at I Indi
sports Stock, and make sure to use that hashtag IST
because once we get into Friday Saturday nights here, you know,

(02:50):
in just three short weeks, it will be a busy,
busy night for Landon, and that Twitter timeline on for
Indiana Sportstock will be really really busy with retweeting a
lot of those scores for high school football. If you
don't know who I am. I produce the games right
now for the Indiana Fever and I do their pregame
and postgame show as well on ninety three five and
one oh seven to five of the Fan. You can

(03:11):
listen to us anywhere that you're listening to my voice
right now over the radio. You can listen to us
if you're within the Indianapolis area. You can listen to
us outside the Indianapolis area by listening on the Fever app.
You can go to one on seven fivefan dot com,
or you can listen through the one oh seven to
five of the Fan app. I also produce Quarrying Company
with Jake Query noon until three Eastern Monday through Friday.

(03:34):
We have a good time there. Hopefully you're a part
of the company if you are listening to my voice
right now. And I also produce the Indiana Pacers games.
So I'll have some thoughts about some of the rumors
that have been coming around about Victor Oladipo. Does a
potential return makes sense for the Pacers With Aladipot, he
did have a private workout with some coaches, scouts, and

(03:54):
executives allegedly just a couple of days ago. I'll have thoughts,
of course on the Indiana Fever, just because they're the
hottest team right now in the WNBA. They're seven to
two in their last nine games, and they are on
a four game winning streak. They're on the West Coast officially,
they'll take on the Seattle Storm tomorrow. That game will
start at two pm, I want to say, and I

(04:17):
will have the pre game coverage three pm. Excuse me,
pre game coverage fifteen minutes before that at two forty five.
So we'll have some thoughts about that. But the hot
topic right now is the Indianapolis Colts. Greg Rikstall will
join us here shortly. The Indy eleven did play tonight
against the Tampa Bay Rowdies. We'll figure out how that
contest went, because historically the Boys in Blue have struggled

(04:39):
against Tampa Bay. So we'll talk to Ray about some
soccer and football all at the same time. Scott Agnes
will join us at ten thirty. We'll chat about how
well the Fever have been playing, what's led to the
recent success, and is this a team that is now
starting to show the potential that they can compete for
a WNBA championship. At eleven fifteen, Casey Valier of the

(05:00):
Indianapolis Colts would join us. He's the radio coordinator and
the in game studio host on the Colts Radio network.
Will chat about his takeaways. The cult are eight practices
in already feels like yesterday. They were just getting onto
the practice field at the Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield.
So if you have not attended a practice yet, only
five remaining, you could Colts dot com slash camp for

(05:20):
all of the details. They will be back on the
field tomorrow. I will say that at Grand Park and
then Brendan King will join us in the last half
hour of the program as well to recap how the
South Pink Cubs are doing in Plus, the parent company
of the Chicago Cubs are playing really good baseball right
now too. I know it didn't go their way today
they lose to the Orioles because of a home run

(05:43):
by Gunnar Henderson in the top of the eighth inning,
but they were somewhat aggressive at the deadline. Like to
hear what Bka has to say about where things are
at right now with Chicago and how viable of an
option they are in the postseason, just because that pitching
staff is a little bit of a question mark in
my estimation in terms of the bullpen, just how inconsistent

(06:05):
they have performed this season for Chicago. And take a
look around the MLB as well, the Cincinnati Reds, as
Landon mentioned playing out in Bristol for.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
What it is.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
For what it is, a very cool environment for the
MLB Speedway Classic. I know there was a bit of
a rain delay over two hours, so at least on
the Cincinnati Red side of things. They will still start
Chase Burns. How much he pitches in this game to
be determined. Spencer Strider was supposed to go for Atlanta
and he has since been scratched and the Brays will

(06:37):
start Austin Cox in replacement of Strider, So I think
that's pretty neat. Howard Kellman will colin eventually as well
to recap how the Indianapolis Indians will do. I'll get
his take on how the Major League Baseball lately they've
expanded to playing these different places. Of course, it all
started with the Little League World Series a handful of
years ago. They play in Williams Sport the same weekend

(07:00):
the championship game for the Little League World Series, and
then they did the Field of Dreams game, and now
they are playing the MLB Speedway Classic. They've played in
Mexico as well. They've done a ton of different things
to try to grow the game. So I'll get Howard's
dots on that. But next I'll give an update about
what's been going on so far at training camp for
the Indianapolis col To us stood out, who has not

(07:22):
stood out? I'll answer both of those questions next on
Network in Indiana Sports Talk. It is Network Indiana's Indiana
Sports Talk, Amida Garrison filling in for the coach Bob Lovell.
Hopefully you are having a great night wherever it is
that you're listening to my voice across the state of Indiana.
NFL is officially in full swing. We've already had one

(07:44):
preseason game in the books. I don't know how many
people actually paid attention to it because it's the Hall
of Fame game, and quite frankly, nobody really plays in
that Hall of Fame game, and I think the only
player of note was Amarion Hampton for the Chargers, the
early first round pick for LA in that game. Thursday
night out in Canton. The Colts training camp just getting

(08:07):
underway and not even just getting underway. Their eight practice
is in five to go. We'll talk about with Greg
greg Ristraw with that a matter of moments, but he
joins us now, Greg, I was listening to your program
on the flagship one oh seven five of the Fan
this morning about soccer Saturday, and I was listening because
I needed some prep for the show tonight. And historically

(08:28):
this matchup against Tampa Bay hasn't gone in favor of
the Indie eleven, and it looks like it didn't go
that way again tonight.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
His three has repeated itself as as immediate results. For
a second time this year, Indy eleven loses the Tampa
Bay three to one. Historically, Tampa Bay has been a
really good team. That has not been the case this year.
They looked great against the Indy eleven. They've won five
times this season, two of them against Indie. India is
still in a playoff position, but Tampa Bay kind of

(08:55):
gets up off the canvas they were in last in
the Eastern Conference. They're now three points back of Indy.
There's still thirteen regular season games left to go, so
still out of ground left to cover for the Indy eleven.
But tonight was Unfortunately, like a bit of regression for
Sean McCauley's team.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
They're coming off that win against FC Tulsa and the
Yager the us L Yeagermeister Cup, and then it looks
like the semi final cup was just moved to home turf.
On August twentieth against Greenville triumphepse, can you enlighten me
first and foremost on what the Yegermeister Cup is?

Speaker 4 (09:28):
So, the Yeagermeister Cup is an end season tournament that
last year was just for League One, which is the
league below the Indy eleven. This year it involved both
the League One teams and the championship teams. There were
thirty eight teams. You went into one of six groups.
You played four games too home to road, and all
the groups had a mixture of League One and championship teams.

(09:49):
Indy eleven won their group. In fact, they had the
most points of anybody in their four matches. They won
all four. One of those was go in a shootout win.
They are credit for a eleven points. Originally they were
drawn to be on the road against the lone League
One team that made of the quarterfinals, that being the
Greenville Triumph. However, Greenville could not secure either of their

(10:12):
two primary venues, and because of that, the match reverts
back to a home match for the Indy eleven. So
that is actually the next time the Indy eleven are
at home, that is Wednesday, August twentieth. That match is
not part of the season ticket package. This is a
bonus match, so all seats are fifteen dollars for that match.

(10:33):
Wins the August twenty at seven o'clock. Indye eleven dot
com if you want to get your tickets now.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
Now, in terms of tiers, where does League one rank
in relation to the USL.

Speaker 4 (10:42):
So the League one is part of the USL. So
there are two professional leagues under the USL banner. The
Championship is the highest league or what would be the
second tier of American professional soccer. MLS is one. USL
Championship is two. They're actually two leagues that are considered
in the third tier. There is MLS Next Pro, which

(11:06):
is the feeder system for Major League Soccer, and there
is League One that is a USL league. And so
again it's it's not it's not a direct comparison, but
imagine the champions will be the Triple A level and
times you'll have you know, teams from leagues other leagues
that will be in competitions, and this is the case

(11:28):
for the Jaegermeister Cup.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Now, how big of a deal is it that India
let me get to play at home for that semi
final match, outside of the fact that obviously you're playing
in front of your home fans.

Speaker 4 (11:37):
Correct, you don't have to worry about traveling to Greenville,
South Carolina, which is a lovely place but can be
a little warm in late August and can also be
not exactly many direct flights from Indianapolis to Greenville, South Carolina,
And so that is a good thing. And it is
also a midweek match. You know, India is going to
play at loud in Virginia on the Saturday before they'll

(11:59):
play against Miami this Saturday after, So just having one
less leg of travel that week is a big stinking deal.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
Greg, you had some time to chat some colts football
after the scoreboard update, I do, well do that, maybe
touch on high school football as well, but next it's
landon Kun's with a scoreboard update on at.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
Big day for colts KIV and especially for one Ady
Mitchell had a standout day here's Jim Bob Cooter on
his thoughts.

Speaker 5 (12:25):
He's done a really nice job making plays this past week.
He's had a bunch of opportunities, Like all these receivers,
sometimes you get a few more, you get a few less.
Each week, AD's numbers been called a few times and
the quarterbacks have looked his way a few extra times,
and he's taken advantage of those things. You know, we had,
you know, a little backed up situation today and shoot,
quarterback looked out there and saw ad Mitchell one on one,

(12:47):
I'm gonna throw it to a d He's gonna get
us out of this backed up situation, and he was.
He was there for the quarterback. He was open. So
as a receiver, Shoot, it's our job. At your job.
Everything you can do to get open every play, make
every catch, you can keep improving as a player. He's
doing that.

Speaker 2 (13:03):
And also Zaire Franklin his first day of practice starts
this year. Here is Lou and a Rumo on how
Zaira did today.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
Here's the good news about that room as we're still
working through it. And it's you know what practice seven
eight today, whatever it is. We haven't even played a
preseason game. So I love the competition that's going on
in there, and all that will sort itself out as
we get through these joint practices that we're having, and
the good news is I believe will come out of
it with a deep room. I want to be able
to use those guys, whatever their strengths may be, to

(13:31):
the best of our ability, and I feel like all
of them at some point will help us.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
And then last night, Dandy and A Fever get a
big win over the Dallas Wings eighty eight to seventy eight.
Kelsey Mitchell twenty three points, leading scorer for them. Adie
have Fever back in action tomorrow at three o'clock against
the Seattle Storm. You can watch that game on ABC,
or he can listen to it and our host Eddie
Garrison on our flagship station on ninety three to five
and one of seven five The Fan and the Speedway

(13:58):
Classic is finally under Still zero zero's top of the first.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
Happy Saturday Night It's Network and Diana's Indiana Sports Talk
at A Garrison filling in for the coach Bob Level.
He'll be back next Friday and Saturday for the return
of another season of IST. That means High School football
season is fastly approaching, and Greg Ragshaw rejoins US, and
that's where I want to start this conversation, Rake, What
do you expect in terms of what you're looking for

(14:25):
for the upcoming season, whether it's Class one A, two, A,
three or four for the high school football season?

Speaker 4 (14:31):
You know, you know, for me, so much of what
I do is six A until the state finals, and
I'll kind of get five A in six A. There's
usually the one, three, A four A game that I'll
see the opening week of the postseason. But I think, frankly,
a lot of the teams that were good last year
will be good this year. Yeah, it sounds like you
was kind of voting based on last year's results, But

(14:51):
you know, Lawrence North obviously was the best team in
the Mick last year, and while they graduated some key pieces,
you give me Monchin Sales and say more. I can
figure out the rest, you know. For Pat Mallory, obviously,
Brownsburg your state champs. They used a two quarterback system.
One graduated, the other an Oscar Fry comes back as
a junior, and they return a lot of skill position

(15:13):
kids as well. I think Brownsburg is gonna be very good.
Again this year. Westfield didn't misbeating him by much. I
think you expect Westfield to be back up there. Never
sleep on Center Grove. They'll have a new quarterback, but
by all accounts, he's pretty talented and so frankly, I
think a lot of the key teams that you saw
in six A with Crown Point now kind of having

(15:35):
established themselves as the best team outside of the Indianapolis area.
You know, you could easily see, you know, the same
four teams that made the semi state last year, which
were Westfield, Crownpoint, Brownsburg, Center Grove. Maybe throw Lawrence North
into that mix. I think that's the same group you'll
see in six A. Now, I'll dedicate this to you.

(15:57):
I expect kyle Enwrights to cater Central, and you're such
a proud of lum. I think they're gonna be very
competitive in six A. Now, their scheduled will largely be
a five A schedule because of the league they play
in in the mid State, but I think they could
be a team that can do some damage in terms
of the postseason. You know, he's got several college commits

(16:19):
that will be juniors or seniors on this team. I
don't think the jump to six A for a couple
of years is going to overwhelm them. So I think
Dc'll give a good account of itself in six A as well.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
Yeah, as you can tell, I forgot. I had to
dust off the cobwebs that football goes all the way
up to six A and all the other sports are
just one class one through four pretty much shifting down
to the Indianapolis Colts. Were you able to make it
out to Green Park for that night practice on Thursday?

Speaker 4 (16:46):
I didn't. I'm going tomorrow morning. I could not have
had the City League finals on Thursday night, so I
was not there for the first training camp practice under
the lights since the days at Anderson.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Yeah, I couldn't make it either, so I was hoping
somebody that I was talking with tonight could But what
of what stood out to you so far through eight practices.
I know you obviously don't get to go to all
eight that have happened so far, but for the ones
that you've been able to go to, what stood out.

Speaker 4 (17:12):
The fact that it's a legitimate competition between Anthony Richardson
and Daniel Jones, and that Richardson through the first week
looked really good. Now by all accounts, he took a
bit of a step back today, and such is the
nature of a quarterback competition when neither guy has truly
established themselves as a starting quarterback of the National Football League.

(17:33):
We're going to scrutinize every practice that that is going
to be life through training camp. As you alluded to,
there's not that many more training camp practices left. In
other words, there are five open practices to the public.
One of them is tomorrow morning. The next one is
on until next Saturday, because the team playing in Baltimore
on Thursday and having a practice against Baltimore, you know,

(17:56):
next Tuesday. So there's there's all. It just started. There's
limited time for fans to go watch this. Everything else
will be kind of more behind closed doors. But I
honestly believe the Colts will not make a determination as
to who the starting quarterback is going to be until
the end of preseason games. And folks, you got to remember,
there's fifteen days from the last preseason game in Cincinnati

(18:19):
on August to twenty third to the season open against
the Dolphins on September the seventh. It may not be
until the week of the first game of the year
before they truly make a determination as to who the
starting quarterback is going to be. I'll be honest with you,
Yetdy I went in a training camp thinking I think
it's going to be Daniel Jones. After the first week,
I think the pendulum in my mind has swung back

(18:40):
to Anthony Richardson. But obviously I think that might change
because I don't think this is going to be determined
until well into August, if not even early September.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
One player that has stood out when Daniel Jones has
been the quarterback has been Tyler Warren and it just
feels like that's where Daniel Jones is looking for to
pepperham with targets. And I know that's an area of
concern with Anthony Richardson right now, just his ability to
complete those short to intermediate passes. But I still think
whether it is Daniel Jones or Anthony richards and Tyler
Warren is going to be a guy who is going

(19:11):
to be involved every single week with that Colts offense.

Speaker 4 (19:15):
Well, the Colts have a true weapon at tight end,
you know, for the first time and in really a
long time, you know. And and let's face it, Jack
Doyle played above his talent level at times with Andrew
Luck as his quarterback. But it's been you got to
go back to the early days of Dwayne Allen and
Kobe Fleener. You know, Eric Ebron's one year of greatness

(19:36):
with the Colts in terms of you know, the Colts
having a tight end weapon. What that was seven years ago?
That was the case for Eric and so it's it's
been a minute. But whomever the quarterback is going to be,
Warren is going to be a factor. And again, I
don't think it's just the short stuff over the middle.
I think anywhere on the field that guy can be

(19:58):
an X factor and I think that can be a
certainly a difference maker what this team was a year
ago to what they can be in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
The kind of tie how we started this segment and
what we're talking about now. If Terry McLaurin wasn't a
graduate of Cathedral High School, would we be discussing if
Chris Ballard should entertain potentially trading for him.

Speaker 4 (20:20):
No, And here's why, because I like what the Colts
wide receiver room. If this is a couple of years ago,
absolutely go get Terry McLaurin. But I think the Colts
wide receiver room is set. I mean, I think I
can tell you the six receivers going to make the
active roster right now. Michael Pittman Junior. It's Josh Dawns,
It's Alec Pierce, It's a d Mitchell, It's Ashton Doling,

(20:42):
It's Anthony Gould and the last two guys based on
what they can do from a special team standpoint, that's
what's kind of so unique.

Speaker 5 (20:49):
Now.

Speaker 4 (20:49):
Is Terry McLaurin better than probably any of those six receivers, Yeah,
he is. But when I think about issues or Conservatives
football team, you know, anyone, I'm not thinking about the
wide receiver room. I think I know exactly what you've got,
and I'm good with those guys and kind of where
they are from a cap standpoint, what the roles are

(21:10):
and who you get in the contract. A lot of
those guys on you know, two or three more years
because they're on rickey deals. As much as I would
love to see Terry come home, I'm not sure that's
that's an investment the Colt frankly, have to make at
this point in time.

Speaker 1 (21:23):
Greg have a good time out there tomorrow morning at
Grand Park and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Speaker 4 (21:28):
Thank you, Garyseno.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
We'll played there for those of you know that I
used to produce Soccer Saturday with Greg Reigstra and you
always called me Garyseno to kind of fit the theme
of the show. There, top of the hour scoreboard. Next
