Speaker 1 (00:14):
New five Indiana Donor Network State Football Championships today and
tomorrow college basketball. The Pacers got a lot to talk
about right now, though, busiest guy you know, he's the
star of our show. It's Network Indiana's Brendan King.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
This Indiana Sports Talk scoreboard update is brought to you
by Quality Supply and Tool in Indianapolis, Bloomington, Jeffersonville and
Lafayette Think outside the Box store Quality Supply and Tool
dot Com coach what's going on?
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Great to be with you and Ethan Patterson. Day number
one of the ISHSAA football State Finals and action continues
to go from Lucas Oil Stadium. It's the five ay game.
In the last six and a half minutes of the
fourth quarter, New Palestine has a twenty four to seventeen
lead on Maryville. It has been a back and forth contest,
(01:07):
Mayville opening the scoring, New Palestine throwing a forty yard
touchdown to tie it and since that point they continue
to deliver blows, including how about right now a four
yard touchdown run for New Palestine just coming over the
radio dial. It's now New Palestine thirty and Maryville seventeen
in the final six minutes of the five A state championship.
(01:30):
The one A state title went to South Putnam over
Pioneer a final of fifty five to twenty nine. Well
detail all of the state championship games as we go along. Tonight.
Cascade got the best of Fort Wayne Bishop Bleers twenty
nine to fourteen in the three A game. First football
state championship for Cascade. Checking in on the Pacers seven
(01:50):
thirty to play fourth quarter Indiana one hundred and seven
Washington eighty one, and a quick check in on the
bucket game number two. Indiana has a twenty eight to
three lead on Purdue at halftime. Brendan Ying Network Indiana.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Welcome back everyone, this is Indiana Sports Talk. Happy Thanksgiving
to all of you. I hope you're holiday has gone well.
If you're on the road tomorrow, please be careful. It's
not looking good. You're in the state of Indiana. Brendan King,
welcome back. Hope your Thanksgiving was great.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Coach, thanks back at you. I hope you had a
great one as well.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Absolutely all right, I you let's the I you pretty
football halftime score?
Speaker 4 (02:37):
What is it?
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Coach? It's twenty eight to three. Indiana has got a
lead over Purdue, So the number two Hoosiers kind of
an interesting box score where, uh, Fernando Mendoza has had
a rare off night first half, He's just five of
twelve for forty two yards. However, coach, the Indiana rushing attack,
they've had a great night. Indiana has run for two
(02:59):
hundred yards in the first half, right and four rushing touchdowns.
So hey, the one night where maybe your Heisman candidate
quarterback doesn't have it through the air. Also a tough
night to throw the ball. You're rushing attack, Indiana looking
like one of the best rushing teams in the country,
which they are.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Yeah, I don't think you get to be number two
by being a one dimensional type of team offensively. I
think to do this you have to be balanced offense, defense,
the run, to pass, all that stuff. So this from
an old basketball coach, so actually, what do I know?
(03:36):
But yeah, it's good Now college basketball today, Your guys,
you're Alma Monor Butler beating Right State ninety four sixty
nine down. At halftime, I was listening to your boys
Mark Minner and Nick Gardner called the game, and the
Dogs were lackluster. Seemed like that in that first half. Right,
(04:00):
it's not bad, but I was a little surprised. And
then they rallied and played awfully, awfully well in the
second half.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
Yeah, the old Thanksgiving hangover right after a couple of
big wins against South Carolina and Virginia. We've seen this
movie before, but I think compared to last year, Coach,
where Butler dropped some uncharacteristic home games, I remember they
lost to Austin p also dropped another game at Hinkle
last year in a non conference approach, and it was
kind of similar circumstances because if you remember, Butler also
(04:29):
won their non conference MCE tournament last November and kind
of the same positive vibes were coming where Butler was
in good shape. Then they dropped a couple of games
at Hinkle and that really annihilated any NCAA tournament chance.
You know, this is a little different where, like you said,
you come out lackluster, you come out slow after maybe
too much turkey, and you find yourself in the second half,
(04:50):
and you know, Butler goes on for a double digit win,
So good to see for the Dogs today.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Yeah, it was really good to see all right, Pacers
and Wizards. Yep, what's happening in that game? Again?
Speaker 3 (05:00):
All Pacers? How about this? One hundred and eleven to
eighty two, now be it. Washington has also had a
dreadful start to the year. They're two and fifteen. This
is a matchup of two of the worst teams in
the NBA to start the year. However, this has looked
much more like the Pacers were used to blowing out
the Wizards with six minutes to play in that one.
So hey, sometimes, hey, the old saying ghost coach, you
(05:21):
got to see one go in right, and tonight the
Pacers have seen plenty going.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
So they have back to back.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Now they play tomorrow, Well, it won't be as easy tomorrow.
The Chicago Bulls are going to come in and they've
had one of the best starts in the Eastern Conference
under Billy Donovan. So hey, you know, back to backs
in the NBA doesn't matter who you play any time,
anybody can come and get you. There are difficult circumstances
when you play twice in forty eight hours. So hey,
I'll tell you what, coach, these are the days you
dream of in downtown Indianapolis. Tomorrow, the weekends you dream of.
(05:49):
If you will, You're gonna have the Bowls and the Pacers.
You're gonna have three state championship football games tomorrow. The
Colts will play the Texans on Sunday. I mean, these
are the weekends that sports fans dream of. So can't wait.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
You are actually on the circle as we speak. That's
right in Radio one building on the circle. Have they
fired off, the fireworkshit or they've just done the lights?
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Everything's done, coach. Actually, funny enough, when I got back
from the five A game I was watching a little bit,
lights were on. They were already tearing down the stanchions,
and folks are enjoying the lights. Downtown is busy, but yeah,
they're already in the process of getting everything torn down
and then for folks to come out the rest of
the weekend and take pictures and you know, shopping, all
(06:34):
the stores, eat it, all the restaurants going to be good.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
I've always thought it's one of the coolest weekends downtown
of any anything going on. You know, Friday after Thanksgiving
shopping obviously Black Friday shopping. How crazy is that? And
then you have the Issa football games, lighting of the
monument circle tree, so to speak, and the fireworks that
(07:01):
go on, and it's crazy. When we come back after
this break, I want to hear about the two A
game that you and Jim Leisure are doing on the
Champion HSA champions Radio Network tomorrow. Our little boy has
grown up. He's doing state finals. He's been doing it.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
It's not his first time, I give me.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
He knows what he's doing. But he's there tomorrow. So
we're going to talk a little too a football with
Brendan King. He'll be part of the network. Excited about that,
and we're going to talk a lot about the i
h s A Championships throughout the night. This is Network
Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk.
Speaker 5 (07:47):
See.
Speaker 6 (08:02):
I'm a firefighter, a teacher, I'm a farmer, I'm a barber, a.
Speaker 5 (08:06):
Waitress, a mom.
Speaker 6 (08:08):
We're all part of your community.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
Every day we move in and out of each other's
busy lives. It's easy to take for granted all the
little moments that make up our every day. Some are good,
others not so much.
Speaker 6 (08:21):
But that's life.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
It's when you experience a moment of uncertainty, something or
someone's behavior that doesn't seem quite right. These are the
moments to take a pause, because if something doesn't feel right,
it's probably not.
Speaker 4 (08:35):
It's not about paranoia or being afraid. It's about standing
up and protecting our communities.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
One detail at a time, because a lot of little
details can become a pattern.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
We we we we trust our instincts, just like you.
Speaker 5 (08:49):
Should, because only you know what's not supposed to be
in your every day.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
So protect your every day.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
If you see something suspicious, say something to local authority.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
Welcome back everyone, Bob Level.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
This is Network Indiana's Indiana's Sports Talk. I just say
football championships going on as we speak. Down at Lucas
Oil Stadium. In tomorrow, the two A battle opens up
the day. Brendan King will have that battle along with
color analyst Jim Leisure. All right, set the stage for me.
(09:33):
Tell me what you have coming up tomorrow and what
times this game get started?
Speaker 3 (09:38):
Yeah, coach eleven am Lucas Oil Stadium. Of course that's
Eastern time tomorrow. Looking forward to it, might have to oh,
now we'll be good. I might have to wear the
snow boots to Lucas Oil and then change in their
dress shoes when you get there, right, So no problem,
So no problem, but no, in all serious this coach,
I think this, We've got a great game on our hands.
(09:59):
Especially we need take into account coach, as we have
talked about over the last few weeks. Remember the final
four in two way, three of the final four teams
were undefeated. However, Andrean at twelve and one, they were
the only team that was not undefeated, and they have
the chance to be the state champion from that group. Impressively,
So Andreane getting to this point knocking off Adam Central
(10:21):
and really getting the vengeance over Adam's Central coach after
AC beat andre And at semi state last year. So
Andrayin was able to get that revenge. And listen, coach,
their team that's used to being here. They've won three
state championships for a reason. They won it last in
twenty twenty one under the tutelage still of their head
coach Chris Skinner has been there for ten years. And hey,
(10:42):
back in twenty twenty one, they had this pretty darn
good running back in linebacker named Drake Bowen, of course
is now starring at Notre Dame. But since that point,
the fifty nine ers have really revitalized. They made the
state championship again in twenty twenty two, losing that one
their first time back. But it's an andre and ball
club coach that loves to run it, but they can
pass it. Their quarterback, Brady Ellish, is a senior, a
(11:04):
guy that can get it done through the air and
on the ground with really solid weapons. And his number
one target coach is just a sophomore. That's Tyler Zoe,
a sophomore wide receiver who is actually a heck of
a baseball player center fielder. He's actually getting looks for
college baseball, but is also the best wide receiver that
this team has as just a sophomore. And of course,
in two way football, you've seeing a lot of guys
(11:25):
play both ways, both offensively and defensively, including their star
left guard Ben Novak, who is on his way next
season to play for Kurt Signetti at Indiana. He flipped
his scholarship he was going to Wisconsin, flipped that over
to Indiana. Novak plays both left guard and defensive end,
and Brownstown Central coach can say the same thing and
the only difference is they're undefeated at fourteen to zero.
(11:47):
Best player, without question for Brownstown Central in their history
have been able what they've done this year under head
coach Reid May, who, by the way, has been there
for thirty three years. Coach Reid May, this is hit program.
He has put his stamp on it. And after a
loss in the regional last year to Lynton Stockton got
the same thing where Brownstown Central challenged themselves to get
(12:10):
back to this point. Micah Scheffer is their quarterback and
they run an offense coach that's literally out of the
nineteen forties. As Jim Leisure was talking to me about
this earlier, he'll be able to better explain when he
calls you on the show a little bit later. They
run the single wing offense, which was first com compiled
(12:30):
when literally football was creating. Coach, it's one of the
oldest offenses known to man in all the football, and
the Braves run it to perfection. A big reason of
why they're fourteen to zero and a big reason of
why they've had a running clock in so many of
their wins this year. So something's got to give tomorrow, Coach,
you got a Brownstown Central team that has three running
backs all over six hundred yards. He got an Andrean
(12:52):
ball club that can really spread it around both ways.
So you know, to me, if Andreian is able to
stop the run tomorrow coach and make the brains throw
it from Brownstown Central, you know that could be a
key to victory for the fifty nine ers. But if
Andrean can't stop the run, you're talking about Brownstown Central
possibly running all the way to the state title.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
That's a pretty uh, that's a pretty great synopsis of
what's going on. Throwback single wing. You got an Andrean team.
These are two teams that have had great success. Read
Mason the Hall of Fame already or should be, and
it's just Andrean's one of the more storied programs in
the state. Should be a great matchup. And then that's
(13:34):
the two A matchup. And then Dwinger and Run Kylie
from four A Brasburg and Westfield for six A Brendan
King scoreboard update coming up with him on Network Indiana's
Indiana Sports Talks.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Maybe you are wreck digging in a bad way, lose
the young crypt excuse me that, maybe don't trip someone
took at on that out looking This Indiana Sports Talk
scoreboard update is brought to you by Quality Supply and
Tool in Indianapolis, Bloomington, Jefferson, Villa Lafayette, Think outside the
Box store Qualitysupply and Tool dot Com.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
I'm running jang with this network. Indiana scoreboard update here
on Indiana Sports Talk. New Palestine possibly on their way
to another state championship. With three minutes left at Lucas
Soil Stadium in the five A state title game, New
Palestine has a thirty one to seventeen advantage over Merraville.
Miraville opened the scoring tonight in the first quarter, but
newpal answered. It was blow for blow after that until
(14:37):
the Dragons have now scored back to back touchdowns and
it has been two rushing touchdowns for talented running back
Cayden Jacobia who has ran for one hundred and twenty
five yards in the game. Jacob Davis the New Palestine quarterback.
He has ran for one hundred and twenty nine yards
in the game. So the rushing attack for newpal as
good as advertised. It is three hundred and twelve total
(15:01):
rushing yards for newpal in the game. As we're getting
set to wrap up day number one of the IHSAA
Football State Finals, the one A game to start the
morning went to South Potinham over Pioneer fifty five twenty nine,
and in the three A contest earlier this afternoon, Cascade
took down Fort Wayne Bishop Leures twenty nine to fourteen.
(15:21):
Checking in from Wes Lafee at the Bucket game. Slow
start for Indiana, but the number two Hoosiers have found
it and like New Palace dyin, Indiana has done it
on the ground. Two undred nine rushing yards for Indiana,
four rushing scores. Slow night passing the ball for Fernando
Mendoza five to twelve for just forty two yards, but
Indiana's got that twenty eight to three lead on Purdue.
(15:43):
It's halftime from ross Aid Stadium. As for the Pacers
getting set to put away a blowout win over the
Wizards one hundred and nineteen to eighty six. The Pacers
have pummeled the Whiz tonight forty seconds left in the
fourth quarter. I'm running ging Network Indiana.
Speaker 4 (16:03):
Nathaniel Finch with you on the IHSA Champions Network and
Network Indiana and with me now is the head coach
of the Westfield Shamrocks Josh Miracle. In your second year,
first of all. Thank you for the time building one
heck of a team here and now you're back to
the state title game. Two. Nathaniel Finch with you on
the IHSAA Champions Network and Network Indiana. And right now
(16:28):
joining me is the head coach of Bishop Dwanger, Jason Garrett.
I was going to make a cowboys joke. I'll hold
it off. I'm sure you hear that plenty. Thank you
for your time.
Speaker 6 (16:36):
Thank you very much so.
Speaker 4 (16:37):
Coach, You've got a really special season this year. And
when you look how last year went, really the last
two seasons at five hundred and now you just off
and running. What is it about this specific group that
has led to the success.
Speaker 6 (16:51):
Well, it's been the process, you know, to your point,
the outcomes say six and six and six and six
and six and four before that and seven, five and
before that. So we're we're aware of the outcomes. The
beautiful thing is is our guys have been willing and
able to buy into the process, as has our coaching staff.
You know, we we're going to put on the field
(17:11):
a ton of seniors on Saturday that have weathered some
storms and our battle tests, and you know they were
at the Brownsburgs and the Molars, and you know our
SEC conference and are very very strong, arguably one of
the toughest, if not the toughest sectional in the state.
You know, the past two years especially, and and you
know here they are, and you know, it's just a
(17:33):
fruit of guys that are willing to buy in, put
the work in, and you know, a coaching staff and
players that are willing to make some adjustments. You know,
we learned a lot. When you play those great teams
and great programs and you turn the knob up all
the way to ten and things are moving fast, you're
forced to look yourselves in the mirror quite a bit.
And we've done a great job. We've done a lot
of self scouting and self study and made some adjustments.
(17:54):
And this group of guys is very very special. So
I'm I'm just excited to watch these seniors especially, but
our whole team, uh take the field on Saturday and
reap the benefits of the hard work and and the
buy in that they've they've given our school and our
program over the last couple of years.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
Jason Garrett, the head coach of Dwanger coach, you talk
about your group of players not once. But you don't
have just one star that's nominating. You've got five guys,
you know, with three hundred plus yards on the year
and whatnot. What is it about this team that, like
everybody seems to be bought in?
Speaker 6 (18:28):
Yeah? Great, he just gave me the chills there a
little bit. You know, this is a group of uh,
they're just resilient young men. You know, first and foremost,
they're great young men. They're they're you know, our little tagline,
trust union, toughness. They they've grown up together. Heck, a
lot of them are related.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
You know.
Speaker 6 (18:42):
We we have the timm And family. Our third of
our team is our Timmans. They're related, they love each other.
They've been talking about this, you know, since they were
they were young, you know, even before the CYO years,
and so that's what makes them most special. They're they're close,
they love each other. You know, we've had a little
saying in the last you know, six eight weeks, Uh,
(19:03):
we just want it more. And you see it on
the on the Friday nights throughout the postseason. These guys
they just wanted more. They've they've taken kind of a
business attitude about it, and they just you know, have
not been denied of this opportunity, So that makes them
special their resiliency. You know, early on in the interview
we talk about, you know, the outcomes and the records,
(19:24):
and we all hear the noise, and they've heard the
noise and and at the same time, they've known all
along that that it was part of the part of
the foundational building blocks that we had to go through
to get where we are. So I'm looking forward to
it all coming to fruition here Saturday, uh, you know,
and and let them cut it loose out there.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
Well, Dwanger has seen plenty of success historically. What would
it mean to bring that sixth title home? It's been
a while since the last one.
Speaker 6 (19:49):
I mean a lot, uh, you know, tremendous, tremendous following
at Bishop Winger, passionate fans, uh, long standing traditions, as
you say. And you know, we start season with our
little hype video and then the song that was used
and the term is the Boys are back. And even
when I say it there, you know, it just kind
of gives you a little chill.
Speaker 4 (20:09):
The boys are back.
Speaker 6 (20:10):
And I think our you know, our program and our
community and you know, in the building. The vibe is
good and these young men have done a lot for everybody,
you know, and we're healthy, and so they all get
to take the field together Saturday and uh, you know,
win or lose their champions, just what they've done in
the last couple of years and bringing us to this moment.
(20:30):
So the boys are back, as they say, and the
trust union toughness. We'll be on display Saturday and play
a great opponent. Gosh, Ron Collie, they mirrors each other.
We're just talking coach and I a moment ago, and
he said, we're going into the fifth quarter, and I said, yeah,
I hope we get a field goal in the fifth
quarter to tie this thing up. So, uh, we're looking
forward to it.
Speaker 4 (20:49):
It's the head coach of dwang Or Jason Garrett, referencing
that three to zero loss Week one against Ron Colly.
We are expecting more scoring in this game, right, what
is the expectation against the.
Speaker 6 (21:01):
Well, I'm personally not used to scoring a lot down here.
You guys, remember it's four overtimes last time we were
down here. So we do hope there's more scoring. They're
doing some different things on offense with their triple option
and the full back, and you know, we were talking
a little bit about that too. He said, you know,
you look on film, we see familiarity, but we also
see where we both have had to change some things.
(21:21):
And when you play a great schedule, you know, and
you embrace the process. You look yourself in the mirror
and you love self scouting and you have to get better.
So they've done that. We've done that, especially on the
offensive side. I think they they've done some things. We've
done some things.
Speaker 5 (21:34):
You know.
Speaker 6 (21:34):
The defenses look, as you know, very similar and strong,
and it's the same guys and the same scheme and
the same challenges and you know our special teams are
very similar as well. So you know, it's just going
to be a great challenge and a fun game and
great for all the fans. I'm sure.
Speaker 4 (21:50):
Jason Garrett, the head coach of Fort Wayne dwinger coach.
With the way that the schedule changed a couple of
years ago. Fort Wayne school is now, you know, mixing
it in and then on conference with some really talented
schools from Indy. This is kind of the dream, right
you play teams that you hope you'll see late in
the postseason.
Speaker 6 (22:08):
Yeah, I think that that's true. You know, for us,
it's you know, it's just a long standing tradition, you know,
with Ron Colly and being a you know, private Catholic
school and some of the similarities and demographics and enrollment
and other things. So it has afforded that opportunity, which
which which is awesome. And then yeah, coach and I
were just talking about it too. You know, who would
have thought and I said, he said, he mentioned it
to his team, I think, And we certainly did that,
(22:29):
you know, in the weight room before we left. That's
kind of where we were changing and getting ready to
reload the bus. We said, you know, guys, uh, let's
keep our you know, eyes on the on the path
here and day by day and maybe we'll get a
chance to see these guys when it matters the most
at the end, and in God's providence, that's where we're at.
So looking forward to it.
Speaker 4 (22:49):
We'll coach good luck against Ron Colley, and I wish
you the best.
Speaker 6 (22:53):
I appreciate it, thank you, and thanks for all your coverage.
Speaker 5 (22:55):
Guys.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
That's Jason Garrett from fort Win Bishop dwingerleven and two.
Tomorrow they'll take on Ron Colly Ron College coach by
Sam Ottley will talk with him. They're eleven and three.
What a great matchup. They played each other first game
of the season, a unique situation, so it's going to
be a lot of fun in the building tomorrow at
(23:18):
Lucas Oil Stadium to start the day at eleven o'clock.
Excuse me what? They play the two ays at eleven o'clock.
So they'll follow that one with the four Championship. So
tomorrow you have Andrein and Bitton Central excuse me, Browntown
Central Dinger Ron Colly, Brownsburg and Westfield. Brendan King coming
(23:39):
up with a schoolboard update on Indiana Sports Talk
