Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good eating everybody, and welcome to Network Indiana's Indiana Sports
Talk on Bob Lovell. It's brought to you by Indiana
Donor Network Semi State Friday Night win tonight. You're playing
in Lucas Oil Stadium in a week coming up. That's
what we're talking about right now.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Though.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
The man who's gonna shepherd you through the night with
all of the important scores in the night, it's Network
Indiana's Brendan King.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
All right, coach, what's going on. Let's dive right into it,
because tonight we are gonna find out who's gonna plan
at Lucas Oil Stadium a week from tonight and tomorrow
finals into the studio to talk about right now. First,
the battle of unbeatens from Class two A has wrapped up.
Brownstown Central remains undefeated heading to Lucas Oil Stadium, they'll

(00:53):
play for the two eight championship. With a thirty one
to twenty one win over at lapel Is, Brownstown hands
lapel our first loss at Semi State, Brownstown will get
the winner of Adam Central and Andre and we await
that final score. In Class five A, what do you know,
New Palestine did it again? Forty two nothing. New Pal

(01:14):
shuts out Bloomington South as Bloomington South goes down for
a third straight year. At semi State, the Dragons are
going to the state title game in Class five A.
They'll play the winner of Concord in Maryville. Class six A.
Brownsburg shutout Warren Central thirty one nothing. The Bulldogs look
for back to back titles. They'll try and do it

(01:35):
over Westfield or Carrol fort Way. I'm Brendan King Network India.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Welcome back everyone, Semi State Friday ninth. You heard Brendan
talk about scores. You're gonna talk about it throughout the night.
We appreciate you joining us. Let's begin by talking with
the best at what he does, Greg Rigstraw from the
ISC Sports Network. Whether he has the call on Brownsburg's
thirty one nothing win over Warren Central tonight. Greg, this game,

(02:05):
I think is a little surprising that we have a shutout,
but I think it reinforces how well Brownsburg's been playing
all year long, and they are, in fact the defending champs.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Correct. And again it's a Brownsburg team, and I'm not
sure they got a weakness, Bob. They're just so solid
from both sides of the ball. Keon Thomas had over
three hundred yards of offense against Center Grove last week.
Can never get on track now. And in his defense,
playing with a bit of a bomb ankle, he got
hurt late in that game against Center Grove. But take
nothing away from what Brownsburg did defensively tonight. First time

(02:38):
that Warren was shut out since the twenty twenty three playoffs.
You know, Jack Quillan has been had a really good year.
Was held of just six completions in twenty five attempts.
It was a Brownsburg defense that was simply suffocating tonight.
To send themselves back to the six state championship game
for a second consecutive year.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Pretty impressive, I mean, I'm not. I mean it's just
number one. It's hard to win a championship. It's harder,
I think, to repeat as a champion, especially when you're
in a such a competitive situation as six A and
John Hart we always want to remind people he's won
multiple state championships because he's he's really really good at

(03:23):
what he does and so but still, and you take
a team like Warren Central had some big wins this
year and to shut them out of the end zones.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
Very impressive, correct, And again for Brownsburg, you know, we
kind of had the feeling, because their program has been
so good for so long, Bob, when they finally kind
of change that narrative as to what the postseason looked
like for them, that maybe once they won one, the
floodgates might open. And you kind of have that feeling

(03:53):
about the way that things played out tonight, you know,
in terms of what they've been all season long, now
being thirteen, to know they were turned so many pieces offensively.
The question mark was defensively, well, they just had their
second shut out of the season, and other than allowing
forty seven in a rivalry game against Davon, they but

(04:13):
a couple of other games where teams have scored north
of twenty, but in most games they've allowed ten fourteen
points again in all three phases of the game, Bob.
They're just a really solid operation as they head back
to Lucas Oil for a second year in a row.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
So who are the guys that drive this train right now?
For Brownsburg?

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Well, you've got Oscar Fry, who is in his second
years starting quarterback now last year really kind of shared
the role with Yashua Stevens that is now playing at Valfarezo.
Three running backs that can all be featured. Aiden Job
has kind of turned into the star. He had two
rushing touchdowns one hundred and thirty four yards on twenty
four carries tonight, but his backup chokovaon Sumter Bay had

(04:57):
a seventy seven yard run the third three. He would
be a starter for most everybody else in the state,
and Brady Lewis. He had a rushing touchdown as well.
Offensively from a from a receiving standpoint, Brandon Sharp leads
the way. As a junior. He had six catches for
und and six yards and a rushing touchdown in tonight's
game as well. Had a couple of late interceptions really

(05:17):
as this game was decided. But in terms of probably
their higher end recruit level talent, it's probably Oscar Fry
and Brandon Sharper, both juniors, are the guys you'll see
playing a pretty high level of Saturday football a couple
of years from now.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
We're still awaiting the final. I think we're awaiting the
final against whom they'll play next week, unless you have
other information.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
Twenty one to fourteen was the last I saw between
Westfield and Carrol and that was in the third Ront show.
That's the last update I saw.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
As well, same thing with me. And so if in
fact that you know, it'll be a great game no
matter what. But still that's that's an impressive win for
so many things, especially the fact that you pitch a
shutout in the semi state correct.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
And if it's Brownsburg and Westfield, obviously it'd be a
rematch of last year's state championship game, but as it
matters to this year, a rematch of a game in
Week six that Brownsburg didn't win, but it was fourteen
to ten. It was a low scoring game, and Westfield
is doing something very similar to what Brownsburg did last
year and play a two quarterback system and play it

(06:31):
very effectively. If it is Brownsburg and Westfield next Saturday night,
I think we are in for a whale of a
six to eight championship game.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
HM. Aren't you got time to hang on through this segment?

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Of course I do.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
We'll talk a little IU Indy basketball on the road.
Tough loss, but we'll talk about them anyway and talk
about to other things. Greig, Greg Strong and I will
come back after this short Break on Network and DNA
is Indiana Sports Talk. Welcome back everyone on Bob Lovel.
This is Network Indiana's Indiana sports Dog Greg Rigstraw with

(07:07):
us talking about Brownsburg's thirty one to nothing win over
Warren Central to advance to the six to eight championship game. Greg,
you and I are partners on the IU Indie Jaguars
basketball games on ESPN plus. Jags on the road today

(07:30):
in a tournament, losing to Alabama State one oh one
to eighty. Another another tough ball game for the Jags.
It's early on in the Ben Hallett regime, but still
having a difficult time finding a w correct.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
They had a good winning as Eastern Michigan last Friday
night and then rusing to Charleston Southern, now Alabama State.
They'll play air Force coming up on Sunday afternoon, were
coming home to play Morehead State, and I frankly thought
we would learn a lot about the IU Indy Jaguars
in this stretch of four or five non conference games
against light competition. You know Eastern Michigan, you know Charleston Southern,

(08:14):
Alabama State, air Force, and Morehead States. So you know
you've had maybe an impressed performance against Ohio State in
terms of score one hundred and two points. You know,
probably a little surprised at I wouldn't say the lack
of offense, but not scoring as much as the offense
is kind of designed to. There obviously is going to
be an adjustment period for Ben Hallett. This is the

(08:36):
first time he has coached this offense against a Division
one level of competition. I don't think he's changing anything
about what he does or the style of play, given
his confidence and I think what this you know, outfit
has kind of set up to do. So it's kind
of live and learn, and honestly, everything that IU Indy
does is a tune up for when league play starts

(08:59):
on December the third, and so you learn, you figure
it out, and we'll see kind of how conference play
shapes up here, which these days in college basketball, it's
about two weeks away from when conference play gets started
from the IU in new perspective.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Can I tell you how much I'm looking forward to
working with you again another year? How many years? How
many years is it?

Speaker 2 (09:26):
And usually there's a joke about forty seven or something
along those lines. In all serious, Hey, you and I
have been doing basketball together in some form or fashion
for nearly thirty years now. But as it relates to
the specific I U p U I slash IU INDI
television package, this will be our thirteenth year together.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
That's amazing. See, I don't at this stage they all
run together for me. I can't tell you. I mean,
I could look if it was one of my teams,
I could tell you. But I know we've been doing
it for a while, and we've been We've suffered through
some games that weren't very good. I'm encouraged and excited
about what coach Hallett and his guys will be able

(10:10):
to do, and it gives me a chance to work
with one of my favorite people. All Right, Sunday, you're back.
You had a weekend off last kind of a weekend off,
no Colts game, Colts back in action, taking on Kansas City.
It starts to get interesting for these guys.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
Now, it does. I think the Indianapolis Cult are a
legitimately good football team, but I acknowledge just how difficult
their closing schedule is. And I know the Chiefs are
five and five are still the Chiefs, But you're also
playing a kind of a wounded animal and a desperate
football team. The Texans keep getting better, the Jaguars keep
getting better. That's who's next. Going to Seattle after that

(10:49):
isn't fun. The Niners coming back here Monday night football
isn't fun. And so yeah, I know the Colts have
kind of played some teams that have been struggling, but
the way in which the Colts have beaten them, telling
me to it's are pretty darn good. But but and
I don't have the exact stats in front of me,
but my guess is, Bob, there aren't many teams, if any,
that have as difficult of a closing stretch as do

(11:10):
the Indianapolis Colts. We will start to learn more about
this football team as of Sunday. The good news is,
other than the obvious exception of DeForest Buckner, who will
be missed, they're starting to get guys back. You know,
Tavarius Ward will likely play on Sunday. We'll have to
be you know, cleared off of the ir as of tomorrow,

(11:31):
but expect that to happen. And if you're gonna face
Patrick Mahomes, do so with a starting cornerback trio of
Sauce Gardner Mooney Ward and Kenny Moore the second. I'll
take my chances in that fight.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
Greg, Gregstraw. Always great to talk to you, Greg, have fun.
We'll talk to you tomorrow night.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
I will talk to you tomorrow and I'm a way
back from Indiana Indiana eight and Ball State. How about
to have Hey.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
I'm Brendan Kang with this network Indiana scoreboard update here
on Indiana Sports Talk. Shameless plug there because on ESPN
Plus tomorrow from Tara Hate, myself and Jim Leisure will
have the call fort you on Indiana State football they
play Murray State, and then we will segue to Greg
Reakestraw and crew for the men's basketball game at the
Holman Center between Indiana State and Ball State. So you

(12:17):
got ist alums all over the place in Tara Hate
coming up tomorrow. All right, we told you about the
final scores that are already into the studio tonight. Brownstown
Central remains undefeated with their thirty one to twenty one
win over Lapel out of two way. They'll play the
winner of Andrean and Adam Central New Palestine shout out
Bloomington's South forty two to Zhering at five A. They

(12:38):
get the victor of Concord and Merrillville. Sixth A Brownsburg
blanking Warrens Central thirty one zip Westfield or Carrol. Fort
Wayne would be their next opponent. These are where some
notable games currently sit in the fourth quarter and the
second half. In six A fourth quarter, Westfield leads Carol
thirty five to fourteen. Fourth quarter in five it's Dwanger

(13:01):
on top of South Bend Saint Joe twenty eight to seven.
This might be the surprise of the night. And listen
closely here. It's not a misprint. Fort Wayne Bishop Lures
thirty five knocks nothing. Miles McLachlan has been held totally
scoreless by Lures tonight. Didn't I think we'd say that?

(13:24):
Two A. Andrean's got a twenty four to twelve lead
on Adam's Central third quarter Pioneer thirty one South Adams
eight in the fourth out of class A. Again, that's
crazy out of three A credit Fort Wayne Bishop Lures.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
Welcome back everyone. This is Network Indiana's Indiana's Sports Talk.
Brendan King scoreboard extraordinay with us tonight. Hello Brendan coach,
how we doing doing great? Brother? Doing great? What about
your Irish, your Notre Dame Irish. You live in South

(13:58):
ben you were brought up in Chicago, but mom and
dad big time Notre Dame fans. It's all good to
be you. Notre Dame Syracuse.

Speaker 3 (14:07):
Tomorrow well, and it's a game they're gonna need, obviously, Coach,
we've talked about it through the weeks of since those
first two losses to Miami and Texas A and m
it's been survival mode and that's exactly what Notre Dame
has done. And you know, historically Syracuse has been a
tough game. But we'll see if they can work out
for the Irish at three thirty. Now I will not
be able to watch. I've got Indiana State and Murray

(14:27):
State tomorrow afternoon, and then I'll be hanging with you
tomorrow night. So myself and Jim Leisure get a little
college football Saturday, and we're looking forward to that.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
And I want you to hang in because I want
to talk Pacers basketball with the best, I think, one
of the I am lucky to work with two incredibly
talented young broadcasters, you and Pad Boiling. I'm an old,
worn out basketball coach, so I never had your talent.
I never had either one of your talent. I just

(14:59):
wish looking back, I wish I had your futures. So man,
oh man, pad Boiling, I'm glad you're with me. Pacers
tonight in action and give me a final hero somehow
it's it's eluding me.

Speaker 2 (15:16):
You know.

Speaker 4 (15:16):
First of all, let me say this, I'm not sure
if I take the bigger compliment it's talented or young.
I love still being called young because I feel like I'm.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
Come on, I'm friend.

Speaker 4 (15:24):
So I will take that any day you give it
to me. One twenty one oh nine was the final.
Cleveland gets the victory over the Pacers. Honestly, you know, Frankly, Bobby,
I thought, for the most part, the Pacers had a
decent night. If you look at the backcourt of Cleveland,
it's Garrus Garland, it's Donovan Mitchell, it's two rock stars.

(15:44):
The Pacers backward actually outscored them by one them hard
career high in scoring, and Bennett Matherne was really good.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
Again.

Speaker 4 (15:51):
Where you notice the difference between these two teams is
the depth, and that's because the Pacers are so banged up,
so the backcourt, you know, you can match Cleveland's backcourt
that is a success every single time you play them.
Where the Pacers typically win games like that like they
did last year, was with their depth. They just don't
have that depth right now. And top to bottom, Cleveland
has more depth than the Pacers. They're a lot healthier

(16:13):
and over that was the difference their night.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
Well are they starting it sounds like, you know, look,
they've been competitive, there have been some you know, been
some wins. You can see. I think you can start
to see if if and win they get everybody back
where a lot of people back, This is still a
very competitive basketball team. Hard to judge though, and the
circumstances they're.

Speaker 4 (16:36):
In, Yeah, I think you're starting to see the makings
of that, Bob. You know, the way the season started was,
you know, way worse than I think anybody had ever hoped.
They were just ravaged, yeesh, injury.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
You know.

Speaker 4 (16:48):
Frankly, they had that four game road trip where none
of the four games were close, and then had a
couple of home games that were like that, And I
think it had a lot of people scratching their heads
because this just wasn't the season that I think a
lot of people hope, even without Tyree Halliburton. Well, you've
gotten Benedict Mathern's back, and they're still pretty heavily banged
up here, you know, still missing four key guys and

(17:08):
a couple of other national players. But you've now got
the makings of at least a portion of your core
back together. And ever since Mathren has come back. You know,
he got into some foul trouble in that first game
he came back against Detroit. But if you look at
the second half of Detroit through the night tonight, on balance,
far more competitive play there. You had to win on Wednesday,

(17:30):
a good second half against Detroit. I bought three good
quarters tonight. The third hand, the third quarter got away
from them. But that's a team that might finish with
the best record in the Eastern Conference. So perspective is
important here given the situation, I think you're seeing steps
in the right direction, but obviously still a long way
to go. And you look at the record and they've
dug themselves a really big hole here in large part
because of those injuries.

Speaker 1 (17:51):
Yeah, and no one's gonna, you know, feel badly for them.
This is a competitive league, as we all know, and
this is a team that beat a lot of people here,
so you have that too, and it's just number one,
do you understand this. It's hard to win. I don't
care who you are, where you are, what sport, what level.
The other team's trying to win too. And secondly, people

(18:14):
it's hard to try to process. But this is an
entirely different circumstance for the base. This is a brand
new team and tremendous story. We all understand it. But
that's long gone. This is now, and this is what
you have.

Speaker 4 (18:30):
No question, And I think this is a great example
of just how important Tyrese Haliburton is to this entire team. Yeah,
while they were an incredible team top to bottom last year,
there's no question, Bob that every player that comes here
and plays with Tyreese has a career year or a
career couple of years. And that's not a coincidence. You
look at Nei Smith, you look at Myles Turner, you

(18:50):
look at Obi Toppin, you know down the line, guys
that have come here and exceled at a higher level
than they maybe were previously, playing either at a different
stop or with a different iteration of the pacers. And
so I think some of this is a great compliment
just how important Tyrese Halliburton is to everybody else. And
you know, from top to bottom, I think you've got
a roster that's hopefully stabilizing a little bit. If they

(19:12):
can knock on would stay healthy here. And it was
just such a tumultuous first couple of two or three
weeks there that you know, I really think you're hopefully
starting to see things settle in just a little bit,
but they're still going to be challenged with some depth views.
You know, the center position is not where they want
it to be, and the margins are just so slim.

Speaker 2 (19:32):
In the NBA.

Speaker 4 (19:32):
The other thing is like you look at a team
like Cleveland. They went thirty six and five on their
home floor last year except when they played the Pacers,
where they went zero in five. So the Pacers come
to down even though they're a very different team from
last year. You know, the Spacers got the better of
a lot of these teams a year ago. They watched
the Pacers go to the finals. So I do think
there is a little bit of a chip on the

(19:53):
shoulder mentality and a lot of these arenas the Pacers
go to even though it's a very different team from
last year's group.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
He does not get any easier for them as they
to play Detroit on Monday. It's at home. We encourage
everybody to get out and watch some basketball. But this
is a great story in Detroit. There is a good
basketball team, and it underscores how hard it is to
win in this week.

Speaker 4 (20:20):
Yeah, the schedule is not easy, at least for the
next couple of games. Detroit's terrific. As you said, they'll
be here on Monday. Wednesday, you go to Toronto. Toronto's eleven
and five now, so they've been a night story in
the season this year. Then you maybe start to turn
the page a little bit. The schedule also was really
brutal at the beginning of the season. I mean it
was very top heavy, which didn't help with all of

(20:41):
the injuries. You get that Friday night game, which is
right after they light the monument seven thirty Downtown back
against one win Washington. Then you've got Chicago here on
Saturday too, and then a longer stretch of home games.
So you know, if you could maybe split these next
two and then start to have some more success. As
the schedule is some you might be able to see

(21:01):
them turn the corner a little.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
Bit Pat Boyland from the Pacers. Pacers lose to Cleveland
and they're at home on Monday. Pat, Thanks, have a
great weekend. Thanks so much for the call.

Speaker 4 (21:14):
Great to be with you as always.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
Thank you.
