Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good eating everybody, and welcome to Network.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk on Bob Lovell is brought to
you by Indiana Donor Network. Coming up, college football talk,
some colts. Maybe squeeze in some basketball talk right now, though,
we're pleased to be with you with the star of
our show, Network Indiana's Corbin Lingenfelter.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Thank you, coach. It's great to be with you on
this Saturday night of college football. And yes we will
talk a little bit of basketball. Currently, the Indiana Pacers
are trailing by one one forty three left in the game,
one oh seven to one oh six, Warriors over the Pacers.
Indiana still looking for that lucrative first win of the
NBA season. Earlier on today, though we had some college

(00:45):
football games go final. Number two IU improves the nine
to zero after a fifty five to ten win over Maryland.
That's the second straight nine to oh start to the
season and it's also the first time that it's happened
in IU football. His going back to last year. Number twelve,
Notre Dame takes down Boston College twenty five to ten.

(01:06):
You Indy over Quincy forty nine to three. Indiana Wesleyan
beats al Taylor in a big race at the end,
fifty six forty eight final Layer hand Over over bluffed
in forty eight to nothing, Drake over Butler twenty four nineteen,
Marion over Saint Francis twenty eight eleven, and Anderson over

(01:28):
Franklin College forty one to seven. Coming up tomorrow, the
Indianapolis Colts looking to go eight to one. They take
on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Audio and more coming up a
little bit later on, but for now, I'm Corbin Lingenfelter.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Welcome back everyone on Bob Lovell.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
This is Indiana Sports. Glad you're with us. Let's start
it out talking some college football. Notre Dame on the
road today twenty five ten winners over Boston College with
me from Boston, the one and only doctor Lynn Clark,
who has a brand new book out called Vision, Values

(02:05):
and Victories. Note your name Style Leadership, Doctor Clark. Thank
you so much for the call, Thanks for the book.
And I got to tell you a lot of people
don't realize this, but you know I stayed on the
faculty at IUPUY after I stopped coaching. One of the
last gigs I had was teaching a sports ethics class,

(02:28):
and I enjoyed teaching that sports ethics class as much
as anything I've ever done professionally. And so it's with
great anticipation that I read this book. I've read parts
of it already. I love the effort, and I want
to congratulate you on this outstanding endeavor that you're involved in.

Speaker 4 (02:48):
Well, Bob, thank you so much for the kind words.
I'm scratching my head because this was not the type
of game Notre Dame was expecting to play against. A
very yes up in college trime, but only two colleges,
Catholic colleges, played Division one football, and they played on
All Saints Day.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
It was a holy war.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
It was Saint Basmo Row against Saint Ignatius, and right, no,
they didn't needed some some guidance from upstairs. It was
a good win. We always talked about it's tough to win,
it's tough to win on the road, right and I
would say it really wasn't a great performance by the
fighting Irish. A lot of work to do this week
as they prepare for Navy.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Yeah, you know sometimes I think that, Look, you find
out the hard way when you coach. Hey, you guys
read social media. Your guys, they can read ESPN.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
And all the other things.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
They're they're following things too, and they're aware, like a
lot of people are, that there there might be some
feeling of a letdown that you've gotten passed, you know,
a big part of your schedule, and quite frankly, you're
gonna be favored in all the games you play the
rest of the way.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
And sometimes these things happened. These kinds of games do
come in to seasons no matter what's going on.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
Well, a humbling game, maybe it might give them a
wake up call. Their backstory up against the wall with
the early two losses, and you can't afford anywhere losses
or the rusher out of the college football picture. But
we've said this before many times. Bob Stacked in DYT
video convicts. If you look at the numbers, very good numbers.
I mean CJ. Carr two hundred and ninety nine yards,

(04:26):
two touchdowns Heremiah Love one hundred and thirty six yards.
Now ninety four did come on a touchdown run, so
but Notre Dame r did not scored the first quarter.
But if you watch the game, you were saying to yourself,
this isn't the Notre Dame team we saw against USC.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Yeah, I mean again, it's not And you know, you
talk about a beat up Boston Cow seem a team
that's struggled.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
These guys can read. They know what the record is and.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
You can hate, you can tell them as often as
you want. Two. They need to focus on this and
do the things that they need to do to continue
to be in an.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Upward arc toward the postseason play.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
But remind yourselves from time to design every one these
are college kids and they sometimes will stray mentally when
they have an opponent such as this.

Speaker 4 (05:23):
Very good point, but here's what the Irish need to
do for next week now. They have been very good
all season long in the red zone, but today they
were just one of three. The kicking game has some
real issues. They use three different kickers, They miss a
pat they missed a thirty five yard field goal That
kind of energized Boston College. When Boston College ye replaced

(05:44):
their quarterback and that just gave them the spark to say, hey,
we can hang with these guys, and they did. Third
down efficiency not good enough today, only three of ten
on third down. That's not sustainable, especially with Navy coming
to town. And then it's the penalties in the discipline.
Notre Dame made some seven penalty sixty seven yards, but
they made some things that really hurt their team. Fortunately

(06:05):
they came out with a w. But it's going to
be a very interesting week in practice. The good thing
is Notre Dame is coming back home to face Navy.
But Boston College did something today that the Naval Academies
as usually does. They had a twenty one play over
fourteen minute drive to open up the third quarter and
they settle for a field goal. That just shows you

(06:27):
the defense stiffened when they needed to.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
I think it's also from a coaching standpoint, I can
address it. Okay, Now I can get my guys attention
on Monday at practice, and it's going to be it's
going to be an easy thing to get their attention
after they've come down to earth and recognize that, hey,
maybe you're not as good as you.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Think you are, and so maybe you need to pay
more attention to what we ask you to do exactly.

Speaker 4 (06:51):
And now we are in the month of November, and
remember to turn your clocks back. Yeah, November is a
tough This is a tough on This is where every
time you worked.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
In fall camp.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
As far as conditioning, this is where it's going to
be tested. Now, that's a positive for Notre Dame going in.
I haven't seen a Notre Dame team in many years
that are as physically.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
Fit to play.

Speaker 4 (07:13):
Fortunately, there were no injuries in the game, although they
lost a couple of people the past couple of weeks
on the offensive line. But let's see what Notre Dame
does this week to correct those things to get ready
for Navy.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
Hey, I need you to hang on through the short
break because I want to come back and talk more
about your book. All right, Thank you, Bob Lynn Clark,
and I'll come back talk more Notre Dame football on
Indiana Sports Talk. Welcome back everyone, Glad you could join
us on network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk. A lot of

(07:46):
football to talk about tonight. Talking with doctor Lynn Clark, Irish.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
One oh one.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
Notre Dame with a w today and they beat Boston
College twenty five to ten. Doctor Clark has a new
book out called Vision, Values and Victories Notre Name Style Leadership.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
What's the target audience with this book, Lynn.

Speaker 4 (08:09):
I think anybody who is just looking to survive in
this ever changing world, crazy world, but it just goes
back to just the visions, values and victories to ground
individuals as they try to, you know, navigate through the
world that we live in today. I say, this is
a book that needs to sit on your desk and
not on your bookshelf. And it's like a break glass

(08:31):
in case of emergency type of a book.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
You know, the old coaching me comes out and says,
it's a great if you're coaching somebody. It doesn't matter
what level you need to read it. And as I mentioned,
I spent time talk teaching at the sports ethics class,
and I well, I you Indy now, And I felt
like teaching the class made me.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
I wish I had had a.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
Sport that's ethics class as an undergraduate, or even as
a high school kid.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
I wish I'd had some kind of training.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
But here I was, in my late fifties teaching this
class to a bunch of college kids. And it was
what I found intriguing about the challenge was how much
better I felt as a human being with teaching something
that mattered and teaching things that people needed to pay
a lot of attention to. And there was we had

(09:28):
robust discussions about ethical things. I will tell you it
was back and forth a number of times, but I
thought it was all great. And so you know these
kinds of books that you've written, Number One, it takes
a lot of time, a lot of effort, and it's
well worth the read. I'm intrigued by it again because

(09:50):
of my training and all of that. But you can
learn so much, not just about yourself, but if you're
in a leadership position in an organization. I think especially
important to have this type of information you can go
to from time to time.

Speaker 4 (10:07):
Well, thank you for the kind words, Bob. And to
get a better understanding of it is if you can
teach it, because I learned so much by writing the
book about leadership. And really this was an extension of
my PhD program when I started studying various leadership programs,
and I studied the ones that you see in the bookstores,
but the best ones I saw came from a military background.

(10:28):
I wasn't a Navy seal or a Blue Angels pilot,
and I said, what resonated with me? And it was
my graduate work experience at Notre Dame, where it was
the vision of father Soren who started the university, the
values of father Ted Hasberg, who was a hero of mine,
and sure victories under Er Parsigan, who transformed the Notre
Dame program when it was in the doldrums, if you will.
But the book has sixty Now it's not a football book.

(10:52):
There's a lot of football in there. I broke it
down like a football game. There's a press conference, a
pre game, a halftime tech talk speech, some timeouts where
you spotlight.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
Different Notre Dame leaders.

Speaker 4 (11:03):
But Kevin White, the former athletic director at Notre Dame
in Duke. I ran into him over the summer in
Dublin and he goes, I want to contribute a chapter.
And I said, well, get it in by the end
of July. And he got it in at the end
of August. And that's why it came out a little
bit late. But it gave me sixty chapters. And I said, serendipity,
sixty minutes in a football game, sixty in Notre Dame.

(11:24):
At the book and you can find it at nd
Leadership book dot com.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
There you go, doctor Lynn Clark. Every time I have
you on the show, I always feel smarter. Thank you
for thanks for doing that, and thanks for making sure
you squeeze in time for us. I can't do this
every weekend without you. When thanks heaving week.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
It's a mutual thing.

Speaker 4 (11:47):
I couldn't do this without you, and I just appreciate
the opportunity to talk with you and your staff and
then even you know, talking about the book.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
Thank you for your friendship.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
You're welcome. You're welcome.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
Great, have a great week, Lynn, Thanks so much. Bye,
doctor Lynn Clark. Seriously, this is a great work. I
got started on it, uh, not long ago. So Vision
Values and Victories Notre Dame style leadership.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
By doctor Lynn Clark.

Speaker 5 (12:17):
All right.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
Scoreboard update, Gonna catch up on some football scores. Stay
with us. Kurt Corbyn Lingolnfelter coming up with that in
just a few seconds.

Speaker 3 (12:27):
I'm Corbin Lincoln Belter with this network. Indiana Scoreboard Update.
Indiana Pacers have their first win of the season one
fourteen one O nine over the Golden State Warriors. Aaron
Nee Smith put up thirty one points on thirty five
minutes of action, added six rebounds to his total, and
shot fifty two percent from the field and forty five

(12:48):
percent from beyond the arc. Pascal Siakam followed him twenty
seven points, five rebounds, three assists, and a fifty two
percent shooting night for him as well. Also in double
digit scoring was Quinton Jackson with twenty five and Isaiah
Jackson with ten. Indiana is now one in five on

(13:10):
the season, one in two at home and they will
take on Brooklyn coming up on Wednesday. The hometown kid,
Trace Jackson Davis did not get into this game, the
player from IU and from Center Grove. That was a
coach's decision. But on the Golden State side, Steph Curry
is still putting up points twenty four points on the night.

(13:32):
He finished at thirty six percent from the field, not
a great night shooting the three, only twenty six percent
of his three pointers fell. This evening, again, Indiana Pacers
have their first win of the season. One fourteen two
one oh nine. One school that has no problem winning,
that's the number two ranked IU Hoosiers. They take a
fifty five to ten win over Maryland. This is their

(13:54):
second straight nine to zero start to the season, in
the first time in program history, they've had back to
back seasons where they start nine and oh number twelve
Notre Dame and takes down Boston College twenty five to ten.
You Indy wins forty nine to three over Quincy and
Hanover takes down Bluffon forty eight to zero.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
Welcome back, everybody, this is Indiana Sports Talk. Glad you
could join us. I also want to thank all of
you who were able to.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
Listen to us last night. Thank you very much. It
was a fun, fun night high school football into this.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
We're now into the championship round of the sectional. So
later on tonight, Paul Condrey and I will recap the
night last night, look ahead to Friday night for the championships.
But fun night with twenty six calls about games around
the state.

Speaker 1 (14:45):
It was a lot of fun. It's reminding me of
the old days.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
When my Friday eason would be jamm packed, and that's
it's the way it's being throughout this football season.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
So thank you all for listening, thank you all for calling.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
And even after thirty two years, we can still on
a Friday night, we can still crank it up and
it's fun and the night goes quickly, So thank you
very much. Congratulations to those who won, and also indulge
me for a second. I'm going to congratulate those who didn't. Win.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
Those young men and their families.

Speaker 2 (15:23):
Whose careers high school careers came to an end last night.
I know the pain, I feel the pain, I understand it.
I feel compelled to say this every year. Congratulations to
all of you. It's been a tremendous experience for you
and your family to be involved in this, to be
a part of something bigger than yourself, be a part

(15:45):
of something representing your community and representing your school, and
hours and hours of time spent on preparation and many
different ways.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
It is something that comes to a.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
Screeching halt, unfortunately, and it will be an empty feeling
clearly on Monday when there's no practice. And I always
felt that at the end of each one of the
seasons that I coached, what I missed most was that
perspective group would not be together again. Each group's going
to change, and so to say goodbye to a special

(16:19):
group of people.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
Is a very very hard thing to do.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
So I just want you to understand that, and for me,
congratulations on all the great things that you accomplished. And
to those who won, congrats again and good luck coming
up this weekend as we get closer and closer on
that march to play to Paul with a win today

(16:41):
and with me Brett Deetch joins to de Paul beats
Ohio Westland forty four to ten. Coach, thanks to the call,
Congratulations on the win.

Speaker 5 (16:50):
Hey, thanks for having me on. Good to go on
the road even Ohio, back to back weeks and get
a win.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
Somebody in the conference office Matt at you or what?

Speaker 5 (17:01):
But what going back to back weeks in Ohio?

Speaker 1 (17:03):
Yeah? Going back to back? Yeah, yeah, that'd be my question.

Speaker 5 (17:09):
That happens. Our schedule gets jumbled up every year, but
it is what it.

Speaker 1 (17:12):
Is, all right.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
Offensively today, you have to be happy with what your
kids did.

Speaker 5 (17:18):
Yeah, for sure. You know, our quarterback remains hot, and
he's a sophomore, and and it helps when your brother's
an All American and so they've been. They've been doing
a great job over the last few weeks. I think
Robbie went over one hundred again today had another touchdown.
But we've had some other guys step up big time.
We got a little healthy at running back and got
Carson Johnson back, and he's such a weapon out of

(17:41):
the backfield. He had a bunch of carries and then
had a touchdown out of the backfield today. So the
offense was was clicking today for sure.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
Yeah, but I think you know, to focus in this game.

Speaker 2 (17:52):
You can you let them in the an zone once
and you know, clearly the way your offense is capable
of playing defensively, you can lock them up to one touchdown.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
You're gonna win. You're gonna win a lot of those games.

Speaker 5 (18:04):
Oh for sure. Yeah, our defenses played a little men,
but don't break today. You know, they turned them down
three other times in the red zone, so had a
couple of interceptions and and blocked a field goal. So uh,
you know, gave up a few more yards than we
were liking to. But you know, anytime you can you
can step up and crunch time. That's huge, and that's

(18:25):
something I've been proud of our team this year. And
you know, we had a really close loss to John
Carroll a few weeks ago, and but our offense went
down in a two minute drive and scored the go
ahead touchdown. And we did it again last week. So
you know, we were maybe not winning the same way
we won last year, but we're we're building up our
grid again and winning some close games. So it was good.

(18:47):
To have a little bit of a blowout.

Speaker 2 (18:50):
John Carroll has a solid football team, and you know,
standings wise, I'm assuming they're leading the conference.

Speaker 1 (18:57):
Where are you guys right now?

Speaker 5 (19:00):
Yeah, John Carroll's first, they're undefeating the conference and we're
right behind them. US and Wabash have one lost in
the conference. So you know, the way some of the
standings work out, it it looks like if if John
Carroll wins out and then uh, you know, us are
all Wabash can win next week, then you know, I
think that the NCAAC will get two teams in the
playoffs this year. I'm not guaranteed that, but but I

(19:24):
think that may be the case.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
Well, we need to do whatever we can do to lobby.
We all need we all need to do it. I
think it'd be great to have two teams from the league.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
I think it'd be great for you and Walbash to
be and I think it'd be fantastic.

Speaker 5 (19:39):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
I don't want to get to that game yet. I'm
trying my best not to. Who do you play next week?

Speaker 5 (19:46):
We we uh, we come back home. Finally, we play
Worcester College of Worcester. UH coming week on Saturday for
senior day, So take care of business there and and
then uh you know, then the then the big one.
But we're not gonn look pass for sure.

Speaker 2 (20:02):
Uh perfect DePaul forty four to ten winners over Ohio
Wesleyan bred Deetz. Great to talk to your coach. Thank
you for taking time and good luck next week.

Speaker 5 (20:14):
Appreciated coach, Thanks for having me on.

Speaker 1 (20:16):
You're welcome.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
Thank you coming up more football, Corbyn Lingoennfelter. How are
you tonight?

Speaker 3 (20:25):
I am all right? Coach?

Speaker 1 (20:26):
How are you tell me about the World Series? Brother?
We're in it right, We're We're smack dab in the
middle of it.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
It all comes down to this. Toronto's up three to
one right now against La and coach, it wouldn't be
a Game seven of the World Series if there wasn't
fisty cuffs on the third inning and we got already
we got it really and man has got hit in
the hand by a fastball and the benches ended up clearing,

(20:56):
things got reported out and we're back underway.

Speaker 2 (20:59):
Okay, we tossed anybody out or they kept everybody in.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
Everybody's still in from what I've seen.

Speaker 2 (21:06):
Yikes, dude, you know you're gonna get a game like this,
you're gonna get hit.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
That's part of it.

Speaker 2 (21:14):
Come on, all right, we're gonna update throughout the night.

Speaker 1 (21:17):
That's great, Pacers with a win. Happy about that? What
times the Colts game tomorrow?

Speaker 3 (21:22):
That is a one o'clock tip off? Kickoff?

Speaker 1 (21:25):
I'm sorry, all right, Colts and the Steelers. I'm there
one o'clock.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
All right, Corbyn, I'm glad you're here. I hope everything's well.
We'll spend a lot of time throughout the night chatting
it up, score it update coming up next with Corbyn
Lingefelder Corbyn. Thanks. That music means
