Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good evening, everybody to Indiana Sports Talk. I'm Mark Dychdan
filling in for coach Bob Lovel who will be back
next week to make a season debut. But I'm with
you for the night. Thank you for joining me, and
let's get right into it. Nathaniel is on the line
and he will give you your sports update.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Hey, Mark A our producer Ethan Patterson a pleasure to
be with both of you from our downtown Indianapolis studios.
Like you said, plenty to talk about today. How about
the Indiana fever four games above five hundred for the
first time since twenty fifteen. They've now won four straight.
At least they will win. This game goes final in
twenty two point eight seconds in Dallas to play the
(00:39):
Wings right now, ahead by ten with just ten seconds
to go. Now, we'll keep an eye on that one.
Give you the final score and all the stats you
need to know. We've got baseball up and down the slate. Mark,
your Cubs get the win today. You're plenty happy about that,
as are all of the Cubs fans on this beautiful network.
We've got baseball on all three levels to talk about,
plenty to get to, especially the Indianapolis Colts. What a
(01:01):
week they've had, including last night's first ever night practice
training camp going well, that quarterback competition. We'll look into
that and more. Now it's final from Dallas. The Fever
defeat theo Wings eighty eight to seventy eight. Is the
final score, and here is how it happened. Twenty three
points from you guessed at Kelsey Mitchell. She leads a
(01:22):
team at scoring yet again. Fifteen points from the unsung
hero of the last few games, Aery McDonald. You had
another double double from both Natasha Howard and Aliah Boston.
Eleven and sixteen for Howard, twelve and eleven for ms Boston.
Planning to talk about there, of course, no Caitlin Clark.
More to come, Nathannual Finch Network Indiana again.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Welcome in to Indiana Sports Talk. I'm Mark Dyton. You
might hear me locally in Indianapolis on The Fan morning
show on ninety three five one oh seven five The Fan.
I'm the producer occasional co host for Kevin Bowen, Jeff Rickard,
and James Boyd. Kevin Bowen, in fact, will me later
in the evening. We're gonna talk some Colts. As Nathaniel
said on the scoreboard update, they were under the lights
(02:06):
the other night in Westfield, got a practice in. Sounds
like it was pretty positive as from a quarterback situation.
I know a lot of Colts fans out there wondering
exactly when the Colts will make a decision on Anthony
Richardson or Daniel Jones and what's going on there. Tyler Warren,
if you're on social media, I'm sure you saw that
highlight reel catch that he made the other day. So
lots to go into about the Colts as they get
(02:26):
near the preseason. We are about, what's six days out
now from their preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens, So
they'll have a joint practice they'll take on the Ravens.
Who gets the nod at quarterback? Is it gonna be
Anthony Richardson, Is gonna be Daniel Jones? We'll see kind
of some interesting hypothesis is from Kevin Bowen as far
as what they might do there. Also Joel A. Erickson
from the Indie Star Hill join us as well. We'll
(02:47):
get his thoughts on what he witnessed out at Colts
camp as well. He's been all over. It sounds like
they had a hell of a night out there too,
because there was what a lights, a fireworks show, a
drone show. Sounds like it was pretty pretty coolsiness fireworks
on the field off the field as well. Fever got
the win we just talked about that got the eighty
eight seventy eight win over the Dallas Wings. Kelsey Mitchell
twenty three points. Again, not sure about the status of
(03:09):
Caitlin Clark going forward. We've they've been pretty mum on
the situation since the All Star break. We've seen her around,
seen that senior like at games, cheering on her teammates.
Haven't seen her actually participate in any practices or anything
like that. Kind Of curious when we're going to get
a the next update at the moment, because it just
seems like for the moment it's kind of just hanging
in the balance there. Also, I don't know if Nathaniel
(03:31):
or Ethan. Did you guys see the other day who
was at the Fever game. Did you see the former
Pacers dro Oladipo Victor Oladipo. Yes, yes, so is mister
Oladipo going to sign with the Pacers? That apparently has
not happened yet, but they held a private workout with
Victor the other day, so we've heard that name floated
(03:52):
about a little bit as far as a veteran guard
that could be available for them. Either of it. Have
any opinions on Victor Oladipo potentially coming back to the Pacers.
I think I don't like it that much. I appreciate
what Victor Oladepo has done, but he's had a lot
of injuries. He's getting up there in age, and I
would rather see the young guys get more playing time
than Victor Oladepot And what is possibly a transition here
(04:15):
with Tyres Halberton out with the Achilles and then Myles
Turner heading to Milwaukee. Your guys thoughts on potentially Victor
Oladipo coming to the Pacers.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
I'm kind of with you on one, to see young
players progress, you know. I think it would be a
fun thing for the city to get a kind of
a revamp, if you will. I think he was our star,
or what we thought to be our star at one point,
so missing ours right now would be cool to have
someone to talk about. But at the end of the day,
I think we have young talent and taking advantage of
(04:46):
it is very, very important right now.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Yeah, I'm with you both here. I want to see
as much of these young guys as possible. I want
to see Andrew Nemhard go out and average twenty to
twenty five points a game, like I think he will.
I want to see more than just you know, a
washed up guy. He's been out of the league for
a few years for a reason. He wasn't that good
as the last few years in the league. I don't
need to see it. It's a cool story, though, but
I don't need to see it.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Yeah, I'm fine if he wants to take in a
Fever game or something like that, but yeah, a long
term I don't know even long term. I don't know
if it's short term even even I want that right now,
so we'll see. I talked to Alex Golden. I texted
him the other day. He's setting the pace and he's
a great great reportered follow if you like the Pacers
at all, I asked him. I was like, how, like,
is this gonna happen? He said, I don't think anything's
happening in the near future. So he made an appearance
(05:30):
at the Fever game We'll see if anything comes of it.
But you have reports saying that he had a private
workout of Pacers. That that's pretty interesting. That is pretty
interesting considering the Pacers might be looking for some extra
guard help. As we move on again, plenty of show
to get to. Joel A. Erickson and Kevin Bone going
to join us later in the program. We also will
probably hear from Brendan King, who's covering the South Bend Cubs.
(05:51):
They are currently losing right now to the Quad Cities
five nothing, bottom of the eighth. Looks like South Bend's
trying to make a little bit of a rally out
in four Wayne. The Great Legs is all over Fort
Wayne tin Caps right now nine to two, that is
the bottom of the seventh. And then the Indianapolis Indians.
They are middle of the fifth inning and they are
losing to the Iowa Cubs currently three to two. Speaking
(06:14):
of the minor leagues, obviously, the MLB trade deadline happened yesterday,
Lots of interesting moves there. The big one I would
say would be Carlos Korea heading back to Houston from
the Twins. They are taking on a monster chunk of
his mammoth salary, So Carlos Carea goes back to the
Houston Astros. My Cubs, as Nathaniel mentioned, they made some moves,
they didn't make all the moves I was hoping they
(06:34):
would make a little bit. Would have liked a little
more starting pitching help, So I'm sure I will ask
Brandon King some of that stuff, as well as far
as why do the Cubs kind of keep their prospects
to their chest and really didn't go all in as
far as getting some starting pitching. Supposedly the asking price
for starting pitching was astronomical, so maybe that had something
to do with it. But if you're going all in,
(06:55):
you might as well go all the way in if
you're going for the World Series, which apparently there with
Kyle Tucker signing and all that going on, So plenty
more to get to. We will talk plenty of Colts,
plenty of fever as they got the win over the
Dallas Wings again, Kevin bow and Joel a Erics and
Brendan King, Howard Kellman, Mike Moss. I'll schedule to join
us later this evening. This is Indiana Sports Talk. I'm
Mark Dyke and Nathaniel Finch has a scoreboard update and
(07:18):
Ethan Patterson is on the ones and twos will be
right back after this quick timeout is Indiana Sports Talk.
I'm Mark Dyton filling in tonight for Bob Lovell, who
will be back making his season debut a week from tonight.
So gotta put up with me until midnight tonight. But
that's okay. Bob Lovell be back next week to start
another historic season of Indiana Sports Talk. Any sports Talk,

(08:25):
giving us the updates night. Ethan Patterson is on the
Ones and twos and Boys the Cults are out at
Colts Camp. I have not made it out yet, but
I've been following on Twitter seeing what's going on. Obviously,
talked to Kevin James Boyd, who is also my co
host over on the Fan, who's been out there every
single day. We'll talk to Joel Erickson later today as
well about what's going on. I've heard lots of things
(08:45):
going on with Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones. It seems
like one day they're both good, one day where they're
both bad. They haven't really synced up yet as far
as like one guy setting the patone and you know,
kind of differentiating himself from the starting quarterback competition. Have
either of you guys, Seene training camp yet, and what
are your thoughts is who's got the nod When it
comes to Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
It is certainly an interesting battle between the two considering
how different the games are. You know, I think the
one thing, I'm still a little bit of an Anthony
Richardson hopeful, so I definitely like to hear the good
things coming out. It seems like from the talks as
camp has gone on, he's really progressed at some points.
They even talked about his short game really kind of
(09:29):
shining through, which is something that I needed to see
this year. We know he can hit the long ball,
we know he can run over people, but those dump
off passes are what we really need, especially with his
type of offense.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
Nathaniel, of your thoughts, your long game isn't you know, perfect,
and then your short game you can't figure it out.
So it's good to hear that he's starting to play
a little bit better than maybe you are on the
golf course. Anyway, aside, that was a shot for no reason.
It sounds like Richardson is doing enough, and obviously you're
gonna have the expert on in Kevin Bowen to talk
about this, but it sounds like he's doing enough to
where they can give him the job and no one's
(10:02):
going to be upset about it. I mean, I think
coming into this one, it was, you know, he obviously
has the edge. He's been here for a couple of years,
and in my opinion, if he doesn't start and doesn't
play well, then it's probably the end of the regime here.
So he's done enough so far. Whether that changes, we'll see,
But it feels like he's done enough to where they
can give him the job and then it's just his
to lose from there.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Yeah, Kevin Bowen gonna join us in the eleven o'clock
hour tonight. Generous with his time to join us, so
he'll join us a little bit later. We'll get more
into that. Yeah, Nathaniel, I tend to agree because I
feel like Daniel Jones would have probably had to really
really outplay ar as far as getting that nod for
QB one and all that, and right now it seems
like they're kind of from everything we've read and seen
as far as mini clips on social media and stuff
(10:45):
they're up playing about. Even I feel like that gives
Anthony Richardson the edge. He's been in Chane Steichen's offense
now for over a season now, I think he's got
the edge when it comes to that, So it'll be interesting.
I'm curious to see what the timeline is on this
coaching staff making a decision when it comes to starting
quarterback and who gets that nod in the first game
and how does that work out, because if this is
(11:07):
truly a quarterback competition, you would think that these guys
are going to get some ample time in these preseason games.
And I'm curious if that's going to work and if so,
who gets the nod and how long do they play?
Are they only playing a quarter each game? Well, we
see either ar or Jones go into the third quarter,
maybe even the fourth quarter. We'll see. I don't want
to see too much, you know, Jason Bean or Riley
(11:27):
Leonard when it comes to the preseason. I want to
see these two guys get out there, show us what
they can do, and then the best man wins, because
that is truly what a quarterback competition should be and
what I hope it to be. And I hope the
Colts don't kind of fall on like Welly they did
the joint practices, So we're gonna sit both of them
out for the preseason game. No, no, no, you have
to get out there. You need to put in the
work because both guys, You're in a season where the
(11:48):
temperature is starting to rise from West fifty sixth Street
for the coaching staff on down even in the front office.
So you need these guys to perform at a high level.
So we'll get into more colts talk. On the other side,
there's a scoreboard update coming from Nathaniel Finch on the
other end. I went back in just a few minutes.
This is Indiana Sports Talk.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
Faull in about it to Howard and Fitting late tonight, Tosh,
we'll dribble it out. Final score. Fever eighty eight, Wings
seventy eight. It's a big tub of a big tea.
And now you know the Fever have won cour in
(12:25):
a row for the first time this year.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
I'm Nathaniel Finch. That is John Nolan the Fever Radio Network.
You heard it, the Indiana Fever with a ten point
win on the road against number one pick Page Meckers
and the Dallas Wings. Second time that the Fever have
defeated the Wings this year. And like he said, Now
four games in a row. That's four wins for the Fever,
the first time they've been four games above five hundred
(12:48):
since two thousand and fifteen. What a stretch it has
been for the Fever, and it has come without Caitlin Clark,
still on the mend with her right groin injury. Here's
how it happened. Twenty three points from Else Mitchell, the
sixteenth times she's had twenty or more this season. How impressive.
A double double from Natasha Howard, as you heard in
that highlight sixteen rebounds, she had eleven points as well.
(13:10):
A double double four a Leah Boston, a career high
fifth time in a row she's done that. Fifteen points
from Airy McDonald. A successful win tonight for the Indiana Fever.
In a brutal stretch. They'll play every other day for
basically the next week and a half, so they are
back in action on the road on Sunday this weekend.
Let's take a look at some scores from around Major
(13:32):
League Baseball we talked about at the top of the show.
Mark Dyton, your Cubs get the win today, one to zero.
It is the type of game that just had you
on the edge of your seat all afternoon after you
woke up at five am for your shift on the
morning show. One Nothing. Cubs defeating the Orioles at from
Wrigley Field. The Phillies just defeated the Tigers five to four.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
Good evening. I'm Mark Dydon. This is Indiana Sports Talk.
Thank you for joining me all the affiliates out there
across the great state of Indiana. I hope you're having
a fantastic Friday. I know I'm having a great Friday.
I went out to the Indiana State Fair, the opening
of Indiana State Fair today, got some food, got some beverages.
It was outstanding. Got to hang out with the wife
for a little bit. Because, believe it or not, my
(14:12):
kids are back in school. I don't know when school
starts for your kids out there, but my kids went
back on Wednesday, so we're still July and they went
back to school, which is just insanity to me because
I can't remember ever going back to school, even remotely
sniffing July when I was a kid. So I don't
like the schedule. They don't know any better, so they
don't know and they don't care. But school back in July.
(14:32):
I can't get behind that whatsoever. So a very weird situation.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
I know.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
They say, well they get two weeks of fall break,
they get two weeks of spring break. Okay, okay, but like,
give me, give me August at least, can you push
it to August first? For God's sake? Anyway, they're back
in school. So my wife and I went out to
the Indiana State Fair. Out standing delicious food. I pigged out.
I drank too much stuff too. They had all kinds
of stuff. There's a brunch mimosa, which is literally a
(14:56):
mimosa with a strip of bacon and fruit in it.
A pickle bacon ranch pizza, which is literally bacon bits
ranch on top of it with slices of pickle. You'd
say ew, gross, and I say, mm delicious because it
was actually pretty good. Get the salty and the sweet
altogether going on. There's a cotton candy martini, which is
(15:18):
literally a blue alcoholic beverage with a stick of cotton
candy in it. I just want to I want to
sit in on these meetings of these actual like people
that come up with food concoctions for State Fars, and like,
do they ever turn down any ideas are they like, No,
that's too ridiculous, don't do that. Because there is a
there's a deep fried pickle oreo where it's literally the
(15:41):
cream of the oreo has been scooped out, a slice
of pickle has been placed in between the two pieces
of oreo, it's been deep fried, and then they hand
it to you. How did that get approved? Somehow that
got approved, I don't know, but it was outstanding. I
had the sun King Special beer that's out there. It
was cotton candy kind of like a sour cotton candy
(16:01):
beer that was actually pretty good. The shake pops that
are up there, those are really good too. It's like
a pineapple whip with like a gin cocktail. Those are
very good. So if you're right not the Indiana State Fair.
I don't care where you live in the state, you
should make it down to the Indiana State Fairgrounds. It
is a good time out there.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
Boys.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
Have you gone out to the Indiana State Fair in
your past? Oh?
Speaker 3 (16:21):
Yes? And coming from a Northern Indiana boy. They also
have some Nelson's there. You can't beat the chicken or
the potatoes. Highly recommend, and I am way in for
the pizza as well. I'm all there for the bacon ranch.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
It's really good. I'm not kidding. Like when I first thought,
I was like, I don't know about this, and I
tried it. It was outstanding. Nathaniel, you look like a fair guy.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
I'm a county fair guy. But I think last year
it was the first time i'd been to the State Fairy.
I'm taking notes right now. I'm not a big you know,
I'm not all into all this food, so I need
to take notes, and I am going I'm going a
couple times this year. I've got a couple dates picked down. Yeah,
we're fixing that right away.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
We are going to bring the daughters. We're not We're
not going to short change them because I know they
want to do the carnival rides and all that, so
we go. We'll go there. But there's a couple of
things that I'm like, Okay, I'm putting a I'm putting
a check box there where I need to check that later.
Because there's one there's a sandwich I want to try.
The next time we got to the fair and it
was a this is another deep fried one, but it
sounds amazing. It's a deep fried barbecue pork chop sandwich.
(17:22):
You can get a single or a double. Now I
might go with the double, but I also don't want
to see the cardiologists, So I don't know what I'm
gonna do there, but that looks outstanding. There's all kinds
of stuff if you're a music fan. There's in the
Harvest Pavilion over there, it's a it's called the Vinyl Revival,
and it's just all music stuff all over the place.
There's like Abbey Road from the Beatles. There's Prince there's
(17:45):
Rolling Stones, there's Lincoln Park, there's Smashing Pumpkins, there's Green Day,
there's Nirvana. There's all this stuff to kind of give
you like an update of like the musical history how
album covers came to be, because like I don't really
put too much thought into what's on an album cover,
but there's actually a breakdowns of like how they came
up with the Lincoln Park album covers, or how they
came up with the Smashing Pumpkins, or how Abbey Road
(18:06):
came to be. It's actually quite fascinating. So if you
have any interest at all in music, and I'm talking
about all genres because there's hip hop, there's all kinds
of there's pop, there's everything. It is worth your time
to check that out as well. So the State Fair
big thumbs up for me. We will go a few
more times for sure. Before we get out of here.
Talk to little colts. Well, we'll go back in the sports.
Don't worry, folks, talk a little more colts here before
(18:28):
we hit the break. They were under the lights the
other night in Westfield. It seems like it was a
pretty pretty even matchup between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones.
Tyler Warren made a hell of a catch, a highlight
reel catch that even, like I guess, Rick vent Turrey
was dropping expletives for how exciting he was when he
saw that catch happen. He said that was the greatest
blanket catch he's ever seen in training camp. So that
(18:49):
was that obviously raises some eyebrows if you're getting the
approval of a Rick Ventury. Curious what the Colts do
when they get their training their preseason opener underway the
other day, But we are seeing some NFL news pop
around the league. Saw that Terry McLaurin, the local product,
wants out of Washington as they are still stalling on
contract extension details. And then Micah Parsons of the Dallas
(19:12):
Cowboys reportedly wants out of the Big Star Jerry world.
And I know Ethan is a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan
because he was like almost crying in his crying in
his shirt when I came in and I said, are
you okay? It's Michael Parsons wants out. I don't know
what I'm gonna do, so, Ethan, would it make you
feel any better if the Colt somehow pulled off a
blockbuster trade and brought Michaeh Parsons to Indy?
Speaker 3 (19:35):
Uh? You know, how can you mend a broken heart?
That may be the closest I'll get to it just
being able to still see him. But I don't want
my Parsons going anywhere anytime soon.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
He's not going anywhere, you guys.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
I know Jerry's gonna fork it over eventually. He's being
a little crotchy old man. He'll fork it over back.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
Prescott was going to be a cult three years ago.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
Come on, somebody said that Michael Parsons might get forty
six million dollars a year, And I say, is that
for real? Is that where we're at right? Now in
the NFL with contracts right now, where dudes who are
are going to get forty six million dollars at non quarterbacks.
I mean, I know the money is crazy these days,
but seeing that number attached to Micah Parsons, I'm like,
I know he's great, but that's right kind of crazy.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
Yeah, I think we we slow feet don't Eat is
the situation here with us, right? I think you a
couple couple of months ago, we might have got a
better ticket on him. But now that you're watching all
these guys get signed for a ton of money, why
would Micah Parsons settle for anything?
Speaker 2 (20:33):
So he says slow feet don't eat and he's a
White Sox fan, then it's.
Speaker 3 (20:37):
Interesting this show coming out of that room.
Speaker 1 (20:40):
Yeah, I post this. This is I talked to Kevin
after the show yesterday and we'll talk to him a little.
At eleven o'clock. Asked him his thoughts on if the
cult would all be interested in Terry McLaurin signing, and
he said, well, they have Michael Pittman Junior, and they
have Alex Pearson, they have Josh Junson. I said, well,
you know, Michael Pittman's probably looking for a contract extension
in the near future. Terry mcmohran looking for a contract extension.
(21:01):
If you offered a Michael Pittman junior and let's say
a second round pick to Washington, do you think they
would bite on trading Terry McLaurin home. He was not
sure about that. He said it was intriguing, but obviously
there would have to be some trade packages put together,
some draft compensation. But Michael Pittman junior for Terry McLaurin.
You could sell me on that if we were able
to pull that off. So we'll see what happens again.
(21:24):
Kevin Bowen can join us in the eleven o'clock hour.
Jula Ericson of The Indie Star going to join us
in just a little while, probably around ten to fifteen,
so coming out very soon. We'll talk to Joela Ericson
