Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good evening everybody, and welcome to Network Indiana's Indiana Sports
Talk on Bob Lovell and it's brought to you by
Indiana Donor Network Basketball Watson. Lots of basketball tonight, high
school college Pacers right now, though, turn it over to
the important man of the hours, Network Indiana's Brad Huber.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Thank you, coach Bob Lovell. Good to be with you
and Caleb here tonight on a big weekend in Indianapolis,
of course, the Big Hoosier Day tomorrow with IU basketball
against Louisville in the afternoon in the Big Ten championship
game tomorrow night with the Hoosiers in the Ohio State
Buck guys. We have Patriots basketball going on right now,
the Indiana Pacers leading Chicago at Chicago seventy seven to
(00:47):
fifty nine and eighteen point lead with a forty to
go in the third. Pascal Siakam and Benedict Matherin have
combined from forty one points in that game so far.
We have another Dame basket ketball going on right now,
and Notre Dame has come back and taken a lead
against the TCU horn Frogs fifty six fifty five. That
(01:09):
is midway through the second quarter. Volleyball NCAA tournament going
on Division two U Indy. The Greyhounds leading two sets
to one in their second round match against Finlay. They
are in the four set. Indiana and Purdue also advancing
in the Division one volleyball tournament. Both are headed to
(01:30):
the Sweet sixteen Indiana for the first time since twenty ten,
Perdue for the fifth time in six years. For Network
Indiana Sports, I'm Brad Huber.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Welcome back. I'm Bob Lovell. This is Indiana Sports.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Tuck a lot of basketball to talk about it, Brad Huber.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
I've done the show a long time. Man. Oh man,
we got a lot going on.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Before we do that, though, Let's talk to some high
school basketball. One of my all time favorites, Mark James,
the head coaching Trent Central. They beat Waldern tonight sixty
three to twenty seven. Coach, thanks so much for the call.
Congratulations on the win tonight.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
Thanks Bed. It was a sort of bittersweet deal Shelbyville. Yeah,
but that's pretty good. The other night and I didn't
think we defended well and didn't do a little things right.
Kids responded real well this week. We're really young we
we have three seniors, and they responded real well and
there was no teller effort tonight defensively, and it was
(02:30):
a good deal for us. The Seagull kid, for me,
he did it first, played three quarters, took twelve shots,
got twenty nine points. That's pretty that's pretty efficient. So yeah,
it is a pretty good night for us. The problem
was our backup, our point guard, of our point guards
towards acl again. Oh oh, he toured last year. We
(02:53):
didn't have him for the tournament. He worked hard and
then came back and we got everywhere supposed to practice
for months with no run game, and we put him
in and of course a kid hit him and his
knee popped out on him and we'll find out in
the morning. But that's really a bad deal for him.
But I doned that. The kids played really hard and
it's a good win for It's Alwa's good to win
(03:14):
a county game over here in Shelby County.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Yeah. Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
I think the other key is you show something back
in bouncing back from a loss.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
That's yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
You know you talk about challenging your guys, that's they
met that challenge.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
Yeah, And they're young and we play a really tough schedule.
You go, not rocking up with try West and Ron
Collie and and some of those people, Ferry House and
the scene in some of the teams we have coming up.
These kids have to grow up fast. So like I
said this week, they were pretty impressive. They they grew
up a lot. I think I think Shelby game Cholveville game.
(03:49):
Like I said, even though we lost it, I think
it really helped us sound a different motor to play at.
You know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Absolutely, it's great to talk to you, my friend.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
I know you're busying you tonight. Man, it's just starting.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
Yeah, I'm gonna earn my money. I'm gonna earn. I'm
gonna earn my money tonight. I don't think there's any question.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
That's good, buddy.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Thank you, all right, thank you.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Mark James, the head coaching Trenton Central. They are sixty
to forty seven winners over.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
Well.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
They are sixty to forty seven winners and right now
we go there. They beat Waldron sixty three to twenty seven.
Nightstown with a big win, big win sixty to forty
seven over Union County. Chad Cook, the head coach a
Nicetown calls me, Hey, coach, thanks for the call. Congratulations
(04:46):
on the big win tonight.
Speaker 5 (04:48):
Hey, thanks, I appreciate it. Good to come on the
road here and get a conference win, you know, first road,
the opportunity here for us. So we got a new
group we're putting together, so it's you know, good to
get one here.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
On the road.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
What really is you know, and and as you mentioned,
you you're trying to put some things together. You're early
enough in this season.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
I'm not sure.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
I'm just sure in your mind you know exactly what
you have.
Speaker 5 (05:16):
Yeah, you know, with what you got, you know, with
the transfers and you know, putting the team together. You're
not quite ready to go. You know this early, but
we're learning as we go, and we were able to
grow even during this game. You know, we had a
sixteen to seventeen lead at half and then pulled away
(05:39):
there in the second in the third quarter there in
the second half, we had a I think we had
nine turnovers there in that first half. So it took
Betterkan's carry of the ball in the second half and
was able to get that conference win. And we had
played in Waldron last week and lost there, you know,
on the road you know, you just talk to them
about Trice. Uh, that's a game that we were short
(06:02):
a couple of players on. So we'd love to play
that one over again. But you know, we're trying to
keep building and get to where we want to be.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Well, it's great to be in that situation, trying to
build and have your kids respond. So tell me who
steps up and plays well tonight.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
Well, we talk about having a most Impactful Player award,
and a lot of our guys made some impactful plays.
You know, we talked about that in the locker room.
But when you look at the score, she you know,
we had three guys in double figures. We had Brody
Adams he had twelve, and then Brant Ellis he had
fourteen for us and Billy Stein let it let us
(06:45):
with twenty four. But you know ten of sixteen from
the free throw line. Could have had a couple more there,
but not the worst. So we're proud of what we
did here and you know, excited about you know, next
week we get to play Came City Lincoln at home
on Friday and then Union City on Saturday.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
There you go, big, solid win for Nightstown tonight, sixty
to forty seven. Chad Cook, thanks so much for the call.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Good luck next time out.
Speaker 5 (07:17):
All right, thanks guys, I appreciate your show.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
You're welcome. Thank you.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Short break, we're coming back talking to some girls basketball.
This is Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Welcome back, everybody. I'm Bob Lovel.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
This is Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk. Boys basketball. Tonight,
Lakeland beats Fremont. Big win for the Lakeland Tonight.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
TJ.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Schneider joins me the head coach at a Lakeland coach
thank you so much for the call and congratulations on
the win tonight.
Speaker 6 (07:48):
Coach, thank you for having me. It was a nice night.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
You're welcome.
Speaker 6 (07:52):
We got a lot of good boys who play ball
hard and we appreciate you giving us some attention tonight.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Welcome. Hey, what you played, harn On? You played horn
on the defensive end tonight. I mean, you know, seventy eight,
twenty seven win over Fremont. I know it's early, but
still you'll love the effort that your kids gave you
on the defensive side.
Speaker 6 (08:13):
Sure, that's always our focus. You know, we played Eastnoble
last night, so we've had a back to back okay, Yeah,
and we held a good for as noble team to
forty six points. Last night won sixty four to forty six.
They're coach by Ed Bentley, Now really good coach. So
that was a nice tin. And then I don't know
if you've heard, we started our seasons pretty special game.
(08:35):
We were able to play in front of our entire
student body during.
Speaker 7 (08:38):
The school day last Tuesday.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
Awesome.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
Hold on, hold hold on. There is a spectacular idea.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
So yeah, are you.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Taking credit for that or who gets the credit for
this fantastic idea?
Speaker 3 (08:53):
I tell you.
Speaker 6 (08:55):
We play the Fort Wayne Hawks. They're a homeschool program,
but they're a really good homeschool program out of Fort Wayne.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
And we played the last year.
Speaker 6 (09:02):
Had a nice relationship, and I went to our ad
a couple months ago and I said, if there was
ever a game that we could try this, it would
be them because you don't have to ask them to
get out of school, right they're.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Home school team.
Speaker 6 (09:16):
And so it was a crazy idea.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
They he went with it.
Speaker 6 (09:20):
Our superintendent was a little leary at first, and then
she went with it, and I tell you it was
it was a real special day. We had fourteen hundred
kids going crazy in that gym at twelve thirty in
the afternoon on a Tuesday.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Right right, well, congratulations seems to me like something. You
got something going on special with this group.
Speaker 6 (09:42):
Early on, they're just they're great kids.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
You know.
Speaker 6 (09:47):
We challenged them and never get too high, never get
too low, don't run the scoreboard every possession. We got
a lot of kids to play three three sports and
so their competitors. We've got some good Conference A games
coming up this week. We've got Fairfield on Tuesday, and
then the week after that we got a county rival
rivalry with Westview, great team. And in between we've got
(10:10):
a couple other games. So we've got some work to do,
but we the start has been nice. We've taken care
of business when we needed to, and on like you said,
on the defensive end, I really don't care. The offense
is gonna come. We got kids you can score, but
we got to stop guys on the defensive end.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
Tonight, Lakeland can't. Lakeland seventy eight to twenty seven winners
over Fremont.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
TJ. Schneider, You're a genius. I wish I.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
Had more time. I could learn a lot from spending
time with you. I know this congratulations and good luck.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
Next time we'll talk some more.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
Coach.
Speaker 6 (10:46):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
Thank you, forward to Thank you very much. Mike Armstrong,
the legendary Mike Armstrong joins me. Girls basketball tonight Franklin
Community High School beating Decatur Central sixty four to fifty eight.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
Thanks for the call.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
Congratulations to you and the ladies.
Speaker 7 (11:04):
Well, thanks Bob. It was a really hard fought mid
state victory. As you all know how that conference works,
and you know, go on the road and get a
win over there against a really really solid Decatur team
was really nice for us tonight.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
All right.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
You know, I've lived here for fifty six years, so
I'm a proud Everybody knows I grew up in Plainfield,
but my home has been Franklin. This is my adopt
at home. I love everything about My daughter's a graduate.
I'm happy for the I'm happy for the ladies, happy
for you. So sounds to me, what did you do
make some plays down the stretch?
Speaker 3 (11:38):
Is it that easy?
Speaker 7 (11:39):
I'll tell you what. Actually, we got off to a
really good start. We saw we sought the ball really
well in the first half. We were able to build
a fifteen point lead at halftime. But you know, Decatur
picks you up the full court the full game. They're
very athletic, very fast, and you know, they just kept
coming and kept coming and kept coming, and you know
we were we were never maybe really in any danger
of losing the game, but they just made us Ford
(12:00):
all the way to the final buzzer.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
I need you to hang on through a short break.
Can you do that? Absolutely perfect.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
We'll come back and we'll brag about Franklin Community High
Schools and went over Decatur Central short break.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
We're back on Indiana Sports doog.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
Welcome back everyone. We're talking with Mike Armstrong basketball and
girls basketball coach at Franklin Community High School. They beat
Decatur Central sixty four fifty eight. All right, coach, take
me through the game, win or have that that last
two or three minutes. How you're able to You got
off to a good start, so how do you finish
and get the w?
Speaker 7 (14:25):
We we really did a good job of trying to
control the end of the game. Like I said, they
were putting a lot of pressure on us, and you know,
we were trying to keep the ball moving and keep
it off the clock. You know, we were in some
foul trouble tonight. We got we got good contributions from
everybody across the board and we you know, we were
just able to do it with kind of a good
balance attack tonight.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
Which is what you do. So tell me those young
ladies who played well for you tonight.
Speaker 7 (14:49):
I thought Aubrey Luger is a senior for US who's
actually going to Ohio University on a softball scholarship. But
she was really she was really solid for us on
both ends to night. She had twenty one points. It's
a career high for her, and she played really well
in the defensive end. I thought we got a great
lift tonight in the second quarter. We a little bit
of foul trouble. We had a sophomore Ala mc crarry
come off the bench. She got ten points in the
(15:09):
second quarter force which were just huge points, especially when
we're making that run to get the lead in there.
And then junior is he still about our chiped in sixteen?
And you know, like I said, those three kind of
stood out there, But it was really a team effort
one through nine tonight to get the win.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Who's up next?
Speaker 7 (15:25):
We actually are off now until next Friday, were we'll
travel up to green Woody. Any lady would win a
little bit and everything. You know, Tonight's wine gets us
this seven and three and then three and zero in
the conference and who of the losses are to number
five Center grow, So you know, we're still trying to
build our team and grow a little bit and improve
some areas. But I really like this group. They practice hard,
(15:47):
they play hard.
Speaker 4 (15:48):
And I think we have a chance to be decent.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
Pretty decent sounds to me, Yeah, like you do.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
Girls hoops tonight Franklin Community sixty four to fifty eight,
winners over to cater Central.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
Mike Armstrong, thanks to the call.
Speaker 1 (15:59):
Good luck next time out, Sea Coach, thanks so much
staying with girls basketball. James Adcock, the head coach at
DeMott Christian joins me. Morgan Township gets him tonight forty
eight twenty nine coach, thanks so much for the call.
Tough night for your kids.
Speaker 7 (16:16):
Yeah, it was tough night.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
You know.
Speaker 7 (16:18):
We just couldn't get find the end of the net
tonight and struggled offensively. But our defense is coming along.
That's what we want to see. Believe our offense kept
up with us. Sooner or later, I think it will.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
I mean, you have to look at it that way.
We're still early into it. I know you don't feel
like it's early, but it is. And I think you
know valuable lessons tonight, even in this loss. So tell me,
in spite of that, which one how your kids played?
Who played well for you tonight?
Speaker 7 (16:49):
Well? We had a couple of girls played really well
for us. Cassie played really well for tonight and she
was our lead scorer with eight. Emma came out there, Emiline,
she just came out there and just did a great job.
Played the diamond and one on Morgan Township's girl and
she just did a great job. She was tired and everything,
but she did what she was supposed to do. We
kept her under her average and I didn't express my
(17:13):
gratitude more than for what she did.
Speaker 3 (17:16):
All Right, who do you play next time out? Coach?
Speaker 7 (17:19):
I'll be going up again South Newton here next Tuesday.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
Well, I wish you the best. I appreciate you taking
time to call me too, and I wish you the
best next week.
Speaker 7 (17:29):
I appreciate it. Coach, thanks for having us on.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
Thanks so much, good luck, Thank you, Coach Dumott Christian
tonight losing to Morgan Township forty eight twenty nine. Chad Pulvern,
the head coach at Delphi boys basketball. Tonight, del Phi
beats Faith Christian seventy six sixty five. Coach, thanks so
much for the call and congratulations on the win tonight.
Speaker 8 (17:51):
Thank you very much.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
With a fun game, most of them are fun when
you win.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
Coach, I'm this is not any orth shattering news, but
it's so much to be on the left hand side
of the column then it is on the right hand side.
And your kids played obviously tonight offensively.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
I think you played. You have to be very happy
with how well they played.
Speaker 8 (18:13):
We actually took advantage of the situations that we've been
trying to build up for the last couple of weeks,
so we call them dominoes, like setting up the dominoes,
and we were able to not sign down tonight, which
was really good for us, and so the guys worked
well together. We spread the ball around. We had two
guys over twenty, a guy with fourteen and two guys
with eight, and so I mean we spread the ball
around really well and made sure that we were getting
(18:33):
up and down the floor, and our health defense really
defined the game for us. That put us in a
position to be able to break out and to close
the court off. So we're really happy with the win.
You know, little things like getting on the floor, securing
the rebounds. That was a big part of what we've
been working on. After having a postponement last week, so
we'd had a long layoffs some days to you know,
(18:55):
weather and everything, and so to be able to come
out get one under the belt again and get in
the win column was it was important for us.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
All right, let's brag about some of those kids that
you talked about who had played. You had a couple
of twenty point kids. Who were they.
Speaker 8 (19:08):
So we have a senior Cayden McAtee put in twenty
three tonight his first quarter. He scored ten in the
first quarter, just one two pointers, just being able to
get in and heat us up and right in that quarter.
As a squad we scored twenty five. And Weston Brown,
as a sophomore, is put in twenty one as well tonight,
so you know he had six in the first quarter,
(19:30):
and so I mean those two alone gave us sixteen
of our twenty five, and so that was a really
good jump off point for us. And then fourteen points
was Logan Smith, a senior. We had Levi Coghill and
Caldon Polver both putting in eight there. So, you know,
just being able to get up and down the floor,
being able to share the ball. We did a nice
job penetrating, getting some punctures, touches of the paint and
(19:52):
then having that secondary cutter off that forty five baseline
and just being able to see and deliver in traffic
was really important for us when we sometimes we're doing
trip drawing triple teams, and so delivering that ball and
gett an assist was really good for us tonight.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
All right, who do you play next time?
Speaker 8 (20:06):
We played tomorrow night at South Newton, and so we're
right back on the road. It's good to get another
one right after that. So we're trying to create a
rhythm for ourselves.
Speaker 3 (20:15):
We've got a back to back this week.
Speaker 8 (20:17):
And then next week we have a back to back,
and then we have a makeup game. Our North White
game was canceled last weekend, so due to weather, we'll
have that coming up on the sixteenth of December.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
Chad Pulver, the head coach at Delphi, their boys team
tonight seventy six to sixty five winners over.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
Faith Christian Coach.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
Congratulations again, good luck next time out.
Speaker 8 (20:39):
Thank you very much, thanks for having us on.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
You're welcome. Thank you so busy busy night. Right now, Okay, Brad,
youber I need your help, help me understand. We got
a minute, big schedule downtown Indianapolis. Tomorrow, we got IU
Louisville and in Ohio State IU football night. Are you
(21:01):
going to both? A lot of people are going to
You and I both know this. A lot of people
going to both events.
Speaker 2 (21:06):
Yeah, a lot of people are going to both events.
We are going to the Big Ten championship game tomorrow
night Ohio State. We bought tickets back in October after
they beat Oregon, which was probably a good thing we
did because obviously the ticket briceon go way way.
Speaker 1 (21:23):
Yeah, how smart, well done, brother. All Right, Brad's coming
up with a scoreboard update. He's in every fifteen minutes
and we're glad of it. This is Network Indiana's Indiana's
Sports Talk
