Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good evening everybody, and welcome to Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk.
My name is Eddi Garrison and I am filling in
for the coach Bob Lovell, just taking a week off.
I'll be filling in, so please still call in to
us all night long to get in those scores. Let's
find out who played well and what you got going on.
But the guy who will update you every fifteen minutes

(00:20):
on this week seven on high school football, it is
Network Indiana's Jase Hodge.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Pleasure to be with you, Eddie on this Friday night,
alongside our producer Caleb Azuver. I'm Jay Hodge for this
Indiana Sports Talk updates. Let's go ahead and take a
look at some of the scores around the state, beginning
at the class six A levels and final scores there.
Decaterur Central takes down Greenwood sixty nine to seven, Clarl
Walo beats Ben Davis forty three nothing para Meridian, they
fall at home to Martinsville forty six to twenty one,

(00:49):
and Carol defeats Homestead forty nine nothing. Some finals at
the five A level, New Palace Dine number one team
at the five A level. They take down w Vill
sixty five to three. Conco takes down Goshen forty two
to nothing, and East Central takes down Connersville sixty three zero.
At the four A level Pedalton Heights they take down
Delta forty nine to six. Martinsville alred to Mention takes

(01:12):
down prim Meridian. Greenville Central they lose to Yorktown thirty
five nothing in East Central takesdown Connorsville sixty three to zero.
At the three A level Heritage they fall at home
to Bluffton as they get shut out thirty five nothing.
Indian Craik ranked in the state. They lose on the
road against Tritons Central seventeen to fourteen, and then Laville

(01:33):
they defeat Glenn forty five nothing. We keep you updated
on scores all night long, but for now, my name
is Jay so Hodge, the Network Indiana Sports Update.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Nice job, Jason. Yes, we are with our outstanding producer,
Caleb zuver tonight here in downtown Indianapolis. If you are
a regular listener of this show statewide, you know that
my name is Eddie Garrison and I am a Decatur
Central Hawk graduate. And that is where we start with
the scores from around the state tonight, Steve eve Allway
from Indiana High School Sports dot Com had to call

(02:02):
Decatur Central sixty nine Greenwood seven Steve good evening, Hi, Eddie,
how are you tonight? Doing well? Obviously much better than
I found out on my HWKS. You know, took care
of business against the Woodman that they did.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
It was it was It was ugly early. Greenwood had
the opening possession and on a third down play at midfield,
quarterback Brady Smith through an interception that Kasimir Dicks took
back for a touchdown, and that just kind of started
an avalanche of points in the first half. Decatur led
it at halftime fifty five to seven, and we played

(02:39):
the entire second half with a running clock, and the
Hawks got their fifth straight win and they remain not
beaten in mid state conference play.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
I know Decatur Central lost their first two games of
the year against Avon and Newpalboll. What's been the most
impressive thing, at least from tonight, that you've seen for
them during this five game winning streak.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Well, obviously getting both both Polstman back at quarterback with Hughes,
you know he got hurt in that season opener. Again,
they lost in overtime to Avon. He didn't play in
the game against Newfoul He didn't play against White One,
which they won. But they you know, they got him
back and they've been on this winning streak. They just
have so many weapons, you know. Kashmir Hicks is the
guy that gets a lot of publicity, and rightly so

(03:18):
because he's a very good athlete. He's going to Indiana.
But Forrell Carter has committed to Eastern Michigan. He's an
outstanding athlete. Braylan Morris, they just got a lot of
playmakers and Polston just does a good job of getting
the ball in the hands of those guys and letting
them make plays. And it was on full display tonight.
They scored a lot of touchdowns on big plays, They

(03:39):
had very short drives and just dominated the game.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
At Steve Steve Olery, he's with my guy, Steve Hartley
of Indiana High School Sports dot Com. Steve, what do
you have next week?

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Next week? I will be at Lawrence Central for Ben Davis,
a program that's got a lot of good history and
that's my alma mater. But they're struggling this year. They
got to shut up out by Carmels and I, but
they'll be on the road at Lawrence Central in the
mix next Friday night.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
Steve, thanks for calling in. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Thank you, Abby, Thank you.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
At Steve Vulry. He had to Cator Central sixty nine
to seven win over Greenwood on Indiana High School Sports
dot Com. Another voice that you've heard throughout the course
of the summer here on Network Indiana is Jared Lewis.
You also hear his work with ninety three WYBC. Tonight
he's with Indiana SRN, Lapel, thirty five, Heritage Christian seven.
Good evening, Jarrett.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
Good evening, Eddie. Good to hear your voice.

Speaker 5 (04:31):
And it was, you know, a good close game. Early on,
we thought we were in for, you know, one that
was going to come down to, you know, the final
stages of the fourth quarter.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
But Lapel really turned.

Speaker 5 (04:45):
Things on starting late in the second.

Speaker 4 (04:47):
They got a.

Speaker 5 (04:48):
Touchdown right before halftime. It was twenty one to actually
it was fourteen to seven at the half, and then
they doubled dips. They turned around on the third quarter,
scored on the opening drive and from then on it
was just them in control. They pick up the win
thirty five to seven. Some of the final numbers for

(05:10):
the offense first off which is phenomenal and extremely balanced.
Quarterback Devin Craig finished fourteen of nineteen for two thirty
five and four touchdowns. Three of those touchdown passes went
to Jackson krit He had six total catches for ninety
three yards, and they kept that offense pretty balanced with

(05:30):
their running back in Jack Miller, the coach's kid twenty
two carries one hundred and ninety two yards and the score.
The offense, you know, everyone loves talking offense, and it
was great for Lapel with the defense kept Harets Christian
in check.

Speaker 4 (05:44):
The Eagles had one.

Speaker 5 (05:46):
Touchdown drive in the first quarter and from then on out,
they turned the ball over on downs three times, had
one punt, and Lapel also blocked a field goal attempt.
Their pass rush was great. They got to quarterback Eli
Knicks multiple times, made things.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
Difficult for him.

Speaker 5 (06:04):
He had a low completion percentage tonight.

Speaker 4 (06:06):
So the Eagles drop to four and three.

Speaker 5 (06:08):
Lapel is still undefeated.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
They're seven to zero.

Speaker 5 (06:12):
And they're ranked in the top five in Class two
A and head coach Tim Miller for Lapel, really has
the Bulldogs playing really good heading into the final two
weeks of the regular season.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Jarre, what's next for you with Indian s RN, Whether
it's another high school football game where you got you know,
I know they do soccer with us RN as well.
What you got next?

Speaker 4 (06:33):
We got some games coming up.

Speaker 5 (06:36):
We had another game on s RN tonight with Trent
and Central and Indian Creek.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
That one was a good close game.

Speaker 5 (06:42):
I don't know the score yet, but it was a
seven point game at halftime. That's probably close to a
final now or maybe over yet for me.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
I'm actually off next week. I'll be out of down.

Speaker 5 (06:52):
But we'll have some more high school football on the
network coming up as the final two weeks of the
regular season. Our hard to believer saying that already, but
they're gonna be here and then.

Speaker 4 (07:04):
Soon enough we'll have we'll have some sectional play coming
up as well. Eddie.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
One thing you and I have been common is that
we will not be in the state of Indiana next week.
Enjoy the rest of your week and I'll see you
at the building on Monday.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
Beautiful, Eddie. Thanks talking to you.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
Man, no problem anytime. That's Jarret Lewis of Indiana SRN
Lapel has Jake County. Next weekend Heritage Christian, they will
have Lutheran. Still more to come your calls on Network
Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk. It is Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk.
Thank you for tuning in wherever you are listening to us.

(07:36):
It is brought to you by Indiana Donor Network Driven.
The Number two Save Lives is their website. Anyone can
sign up to be a organ donor. There are no
age limits or health restrictions to signing up to becoming
an Oregon donor. Every ten minutes, someone is added to
the transplant waiting list. Driven the Number two SaveLives dot org.
My name's Eddie Garrison. I am frequently in the seat

(07:59):
in which Jace Hodge tonight, usually providing the updates every
fifteen minutes. But tonight they went to the bullpen or
sometimes I guess. And you know, in this time of
the year, it's the backup quarterback. I'm filling in for
coach level. No need to worry coaches. AOK, he's just
taking a weekend off. He's got some family stuff going
on that he's having a little fun time this weekend.
So they asked me to fill in and I obliged

(08:20):
ever so kindly and gratefully here on Network Indiana's Indiana
Sports Stock and is week number seven of the high
school football season. And it is hard to believe that
we are already at this point. It feels just like
yesterday we were celebrating to start a week number one
and trying to figure out who's good, who's what. And
you know, there are still some teams out there that

(08:42):
may not know just because you know the nature that
is high school football. And when you get into this
conference play, you could be a three A school playing
a bunch of four A schools, which is great competition.
And nonetheless you're a couple of weeks away from the
state tournament starting with Sectionals in three weeks. Speaking of Sectionals,
the Pairing Show with Bob Lovell and Paul Condrey is

(09:04):
next Sunday, six o'clock to eight o'clock. Those times are
Eastern and in the evening, not six am to eight am,
but you can listen to that on many of these
same stations. That is where Bob Lovel and Paul Condrey
will have your team's announcement on who they will be
playing or if they get the first round by and
sectional play. Make sure you tweet at us all night

(09:25):
long with those scores, your videos highlights any cool plays
that happened tonight in your contest that you attended at
I ind Sports Stock and you can make sure to
use the hashtag ist as well. That is how we
can help further grow your product in your program and
highlight some of those student athletes that are having a
great start to the season or you know, could be

(09:46):
ending their seasons as well. It's been a big week
really in the state of Indiana. You had the Indiana
Fever earlier this week, their season coming to an end
against the Las Vegas Aces, and it was just an
incredib double season for Stephanie White and what she was
able to do with that team. All things considered. You
lose Caitlin Clark, you get Kitlyn Clark back, then you

(10:09):
lose her again and you're trying to work back Caitlyn
Clark as the season goes along, and it turns out
she just couldn't do it. Is because she was rehabbing
from her quad injury and that later then became her
a groin injury. She sustained an ankle sprain and yesterday
She called it the worst worst ankle sprain that she's
ever had in her career, which is saying a lot.

(10:32):
And nonetheless, Indiana was still able to make it to
the semi finals round go toe to toe and needing
an extra five minutes against Las Vegas Tuesday night. They
fell in over time one hundred and seven to ninety eight.
But there is so much credit that needs to be
applied to everybody with the Indiana Fever for kind of
piggybacking off of what the Indiana Pacers did, and what

(10:55):
was an improbable run for the Pacers became an improbable
run for the Fever just because of all the injuries
that they had suffered throughout the course of the season.
And you're able to bring in various players like Odyssey Sims,
Aery McDonald who eventually goes down for the rest of
the season. Chloe Bibby had a nice stretch of play
aerial powers was a big part of the reason why
the Fever were able to defeat the Atlanta Dream in

(11:17):
the first round and have a shot there in game
number five. And still was Shay Petty against the Las
Vegas Aces and the w NBA Semi Finals into three
quarters in the w NBA Finals game number one between
the Aces and the Mercury. Right now sixty one sixty
seven the Phoenix Mercury leading Las Vegas. That game is
currently being played in Vegas. Kalia Copper leads all players

(11:39):
with twenty one points, Asian Wilson's got fifteen points and
six rebounds. But the moral of the story tonight is
trying to get in as many of these high school
scores as we possibly can, and coming up, Jase Hodge
will have an update. But make sure you still call in.
I know I'm not Bob Lovel, but I'll still help you,
you know, get the people understand the higher team did tonight.
And if you're somewhere else in the state, make sure

(12:01):
the text your coach or whomever you're broadcaster that you
know how at the game of your school tonight, tell
them to call on the Indiana Sports Talk so we
can chat about it. Let's get to that scoreboard update
now with Jayce HOIDGEO Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
It's a high school football Friday night. I'm Jays Hodge
for this Indiana Sports Talk score board update. Thinking a
look at some of the confirmed scorers around the state.
We'll begin with Adam Central as they took down South
Southern Wales forty eight to seven. Bloomington North beats Columbus
East forty two to zero. Heritage also get shut out
thirty five nothing against Bluffton. Brownstown Central they take it

(12:36):
to Madison sixty three to seven. Carol Fort Wayne they
beat Homestead forty nine to zero. Two more shoutouts here.
Norwell put zero on the board as they get beat
forty two to nothing by Decalb and then Balin Academy
they score zero as well as they get beat by
sixty seven to Eastern. Greentown East Side they beat Fremont
forty two to thirteen. Linton takes down North Knox fifty

(12:58):
four to seven. Martinsville defeats Perry Meridian forty six to
twenty one. L Wood loses to miss Anewall forty eight
to nothing. Chebbyville they get blown out by the number
one team in Class five A, New Palestine sixty five
to three. The final score there. North Davies they defeat
Mitchell fifty two to six. Pilda Knights they take down
Delta forty nine to six. Culvert also get shut out

(13:21):
as they get beat thirty five nothing by Pioneer Rochester.
They beat Northfield fifty one to fourteen. Seymour blows out
Jennings County forty four to seven. Sheridan takes down Delphi
forty five to six. South Bend Adams they beat South
Bend Washington twenty eight two seven, and finally Yorktown they
take down Greenfield Central thirty five to nothing. Those are

(13:43):
confirmed scores currently around the state. Will continue to keep
you updated as final scores come in and the Colts
they also play. They play on Sunday, though Las Vegas
Raiders will come to town as the Colts look to
move to four and one and avenge that loss to
the Rams last Sunday night.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
This is Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk. Good Evening. My
name is Eddi Garrison. I'm just filling in for the
coach on the weekend. He'll be back next week for
week number eight of the high school football season, and
next Sunday he'll have the Pairing Show with Paul Condrey
six pm to eight pm on many of these stations
that you are currently listening to. My voice. I can't

(14:18):
believe we're already seven weeks through the season and more
calls rolling in. Blake Marath from Indiana High School Sports
dot Com joins us Blake.

Speaker 6 (14:26):
Good evening, All right, thanks for having me tonight here
at Indiana High School Sports dot Com. We had the
game between Frankton and Alexandria in the Central Indiana Conference.
Alexandria coming into the game four and two. Frankdin oh
and six and Frankton had a chance in this game.

(14:47):
Early on, they had a very good defensive game plan.
We're able to get after Brady Gass, the quarterback for Alexandria,
but unfortunately they ended up losing their quarterback, their starter,
Ethan Stansbery early onto the game, ended up having an
ambulance take him off the field. Was able to get
into it on his own power, but we certainly help
all the best for him, and from that moment on,

(15:10):
it just became a little difficult for rowing Brandon, the backup,
to go in and have to take over all night long.
Brady Gast, once he got comfortable, was able to do
what he's done all season. He really lit up the
frankn defense got a little shippy.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
There was a brawl.

Speaker 6 (15:28):
At a point in the game in the middle of
the field.

Speaker 4 (15:32):
Fans were into it all night long.

Speaker 6 (15:34):
Ultimately, Alexandria pulls away late in the second half and
they win the game forty to nothing over Franklin. They
advanced to five and two Frankton drops to zero to seven.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
Sounds like it was a pretty eventful game. Time pretty
much had everything going on in he had a lot
of offense from Alexandria and some pretty good defense who
played well for Alexandria tonight in the win.

Speaker 6 (15:56):
Well, Brady Gast played an excellent game, especially in that
secon and half. Early on, he just barely missed on
a couple of passes down the field, but was able to.

Speaker 4 (16:04):
Connect later on in the game.

Speaker 6 (16:07):
Bryson Eckler had a big touchdown in the game, and
so did John Amen.

Speaker 4 (16:12):
Those guys did a really good job and.

Speaker 6 (16:13):
Defensively they were swarming all night long in that shutout.
Able to have a lot of great plays by Whyat
Fuller and Mason Fuller.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
They were to make some big plays.

Speaker 6 (16:24):
DJ Egan had a big sack, Lincoln Burkhard's had a
big play with a lot of guys coming together for
Alexander to make it happen. Tonight in the forties and
nothing win.

Speaker 1 (16:34):
That's Blake Marash from Indiana High School Sports dot Com. Blake,
have a great rest of your weekend you too, Thank
you very much. Alexandria. Next up for Alexandrier will be
Madison Grant. That's a senior night against Madison Grant. That
will be a seven o'clock kick off. And then as
for Franklin, they will look for their first win next
week at Blackford and then they'll round out their season

(16:57):
at Elwood. As for Alexandria, they'll round out their season
and two weeks from tonight against Blackford. So three colors
so far. You want to continue to make sure you
dial us up. I would love to chat to you
coaches as well. Try to highlight what happened in your
game tonight. It is a busy week of high school football.
I know in Central Indiana one of the bigger games

(17:19):
Warren Central and Lawrence North. They were tied forty two
with less than eight minutes to go. Hopefully we can
get Kyle nennerrip. I know he's following it for the
Indie Star to call us later on the show. But
Kyle's a very busy man as he is on a
Friday night, and he's got to do a bunch of
different stuff with Indie Star and trying to keep track

(17:39):
of what's going on. And Lawrence North just took a
seven point lead over Warren Central five and a half
left that game being played at Lawrence North, so that
could be a big win for the Wildcats and Tony
on what looks like a very explosive game offensively for
Isavian Moore, the running back for Lawrence North. I've seen
at least two, maybe three touchdowns for is Avian Moore tonight.

(18:02):
Big weekend for college football as well. It's a true
test tomorrow, I think for the Purdue boy the makers.
We saw them tested a little bit at home against USC.
But that's a hard one to really gauge for Barry
Odoms group because they're coming off the two wins to
start the year, one of ball State one against Southern Illinois,
and US is your first real test and the game

(18:26):
gets delayed for the better part of three hours, so
he gets totally thrown off kilter with you know, just
your pregame warm ups and everything and how you're getting
mentally and physically prepared for the game, and you know
you're kind of waiting it out in the locker room, like, hey,
we're gonna kick this off? When we gonna kick this off?
And they fell at home the USC thirty three seventeen,
and of course last week they get steamrolled by Notre

(18:48):
Dame fifty six thirty. But I think there were a
lot of positive takeaways. And they're coming off the bye week,
so that's a big one too for Barry otos team.
Could they use that bye week to prepare for Illinois,
who is coming off a an emotional win over USC.
I don't know if you caught it, but last week,
after Illinois two weeks ago got you know, dominated by

(19:10):
Indiana sixty three to ten, they were at home, they
were cruising over USC. USC makes a ferocious comeback. They
take a lead in thirty two to thirty one with
just over a minute left and Illinois drives down the
field and at the horn they get a field goal
to go to win. They are now four and one
and they are twenty second in the college rankings in

(19:32):
Purdue will be taking on Illinois tomorrow. That kicks off
at noon on the Big ten Network. Hopefully we can
track somebody down Rob Blackman, hopefully to recap that game
tomorrow and talk a little to Purdue basketball as well.
Matt Painter's crew are gonna be a dangerous, dangerous team
next year. You got guys that are you know, reserves

(19:52):
that should be starters for most of the other schools
in the Big Ten and certainly in Division One that
are in the in the rotation or may not even
be in the rotation for Matt Painters team. So hopefully
we can track down Rob Blackman and got a little
Purdue football and basketball tomorrow night, because it is a
great time to be a Purdue fan, because football looks
to be on the right track. And of course you

(20:12):
already know what Matt Painter's going to do. He's gonna
compete and he's gonna have that team humming, and they're
going to be a true threat to be cutting down
the nets during March. And what is a terrific time
for college basketball Indiana this week. They are off. They're
coming off that really really tough and gritty win last
week against Iowa, where Kurtz Signette said going into the

(20:34):
game that game would be more of a test for
the Hoosiers in the previous week and against Illinois just
because of the way that Iowa plays, and especially in Iowa,
you know, they're a very physical team. They are different
in terms of how they operate offensively. They try to
beat you at the point of attack, and they usually
have you know, one or two NFL caliber offensive lineman
and there may be one or two defensive lineman on

(20:56):
Iowa that could be going to the pros. So Indiana
got tested up front in terms of his physicality, and
I think Kurtz Signetic will be pleased with the way
that his team was able to come away with that win.
Twenty to fifteen Banana Mendoza of course, connecting with Elijah
Surrat for that game winning touchdown. The Hoosiers off this week.
They're on the road at Oregon against the Ducks. Quite

(21:17):
quiet next week. That's a three point thirty kick. So
we may have John Herrick on later. I know he's
got a high school football game tonight. We'll mix in
AYU football and potentially HYU basketball as well. A pretty
cool event last night down in Bloomington on Kirkwood with
some hoopach for the Hoosiers. Top of the hour, Scorebard
update coming up next on Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
