It's Network Indiana's Brendan King.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
This Indiana Sports Talk scoreboard update is brought to you
by Quality Supply and Tool in Indianapolis, Bloomington, Jefferson, Villa Lafayette,
Think outside the box store Quality Supply and Tool dot
Com Coach.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
What's going on? Great to be with you and Kurt
and let's get right to it. We have multiple teams
punching themselves up to the semi state round of this
year's IHSAA Football State Tournament, including from Class six A.
Westfield is going to have the opportunity to head to
Lucas Oil Stadium next week with their twenty seed to
ten win over fishers from Class five A. New Palestine

(00:59):
continue used to roll and what more could you expect
from the Dragons? They locked down East Central defensively. Newpal
wins twenty to six. Bloomington South also victorious Bloomington South
over Floyd Central by a wide margin, fifty five to seven.
Checking in quickly with Class two Way and a couple
teams remaining undefeated on the season. By night's end, you

(01:24):
could be talking about three undefeated teams remaining in Class
two Way, which is wild, including Adams Central there win
over Eastbrook forty two to twenty eight, and Lapel stays
undefeated as well, thirty eight to seven. They handle Lutheran. Lastly,
Class A South Adams by a field goal over North Miami.

(01:44):
That was the final, twenty five to twenty two. Not
as close. South Putnam takes down Sheridan twenty six to six.
More scores on the way all that long.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Welcome back everyone, and this is Network Indiana's Indiana's Sports Talk.
One of those teams is having one of those seasons.
Let's get right into let's not wait any longer. Let's
talk regional football around the state. Steve olrejoins me from
Indiana High School Sports dot Com. Lapel beats Lutheran tonight,

(02:20):
thirty eight to seven. Steve, thanks so much for the call.
Congratulations obviously to Lapel. I have to tell you the
spread on this the margin of victory has surprised me.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
Yeah, coach, thanks for having me. It surprised me as well.
And one more nugget. It was thirty eight to nothing
until the final minute. Luther and sport a touchdown in
the final minute with a running clock. If you had
told me we had a running clock tonight, I would
have been shot right because I just did not see
that coming. But Lapel just dominated this game from start
to finish. And congratulations to coach Tim Miller and the Bulldogs.

(02:58):
They get their first regional champion ship to school history.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
That's impressive, There's no question about it. Because it's a
you know, a Lutheran team who's had their fair share
of success in postseason play. It seemed like they were
really putting things together at this time of year, at
the right time, so to speak. And so I think
it underscores how impressive the victory really is for Lapel.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
Yeah, they they came in, they were just having fun.
It was you know, they've got a lot of weapons, obviously.
They they have a senior quarterback in Devin Craig who's
thrown for over ten thousand yards in his career and
it's a short list of quarterbacks in Indiana high school
football history. They run throwne for over two thousand yards
and he came in with thirty six touch down passes.
He threw three mores a night. The three different receivers

(03:46):
Jack Miller that are seen. The running back had two
more touchdown runs that gives him fourteen. They picked off
a pass, they recovered two on site kicks. Like I said,
it was a shoutout for the final minute. They just
dominated Lutherans off there. It's just did never get anything going.
They only had one drive of any consequence and installed
on on downs inside the ten yard line.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
Is this the first time you've had lapel in your
broadcast season?

Speaker 4 (04:14):
Yes, it is, Yes it is. I was very impressed,
not only with them as a team as a whole,
but Devin Craig, their quarterback. He's he's something special. He's
got great accuracy, he can throw on the run, he
can move well through him. Is getting a lot of
pressure up the middle, but he did a good job
of rolling out and he's very accurate throwing on the run.
And he's got multiple receivers that can all make plays

(04:36):
and they all made great catches tonight and he's obviously
got a lot of confidence in those guys.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
Just a good football team. It's gonna be interesting. Like
like Brenda mentioned, that could have three under seated teams
in two A. Lapel's one of them, and they might
get brownstowns Entil next week. It's gonna be a tough road,
but two A tournament's really shaping up to be a
good one.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Uh. And there's been a very competitive class from the beginning,
and it was also one quite frankly, where there was
a great variety. There were no clearcut favorites. And I
think it's underscored by the fact you have three unbeaten
So I'm still trying to absorb thirty eight to seven

(05:19):
in a regional final. That's fantastic. And coach Miller, I mean, again,
was the expectation at the beginning of the year where
they expected to be this dominant on both sides of
the ball.

Speaker 4 (05:33):
Well, they brought Obviously, they've got a quarterback in Devin
Craig that's a senior that's been in the program. They've
got a lot of players that have been there a
long time. You know, they got to this round last
year and lost this game to Luther and thirty five
to nothing. So okay, basically they came into this season
with a chip on their shoulder. And I thought it
was interesting when we interviewed coach Miller at halftime. You know,

(05:53):
at that time they were up thirty one to nothing,
and the final question was what's the matter get to happen?
He said, we still got two has to go. We've
got there's a lot of football left. But he also
made the comment, he goes, my guys didn't come here
to win a regional championship. They came here to have
a chance to continue playing football together. These guys are

(06:13):
he said, I love coaching them, they love being together,
they love playing football together. He goes, of course we
want to win, and he goes, they just want the
chance to keep playing football together. And I thought that
was a great comment.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
It is a great comment because it's actually it's something
that people don't talk enough about. You don't want this
to be the last time as a group you're together,
and you want to keep this is so special and
you wanted to continue this as long as possible.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
Yeah, and they're going to get that chance and it's
exciting for the town of Lapenal. They had a great
turnout tonight. They brought the pets, van and a ton
of students and now they're going to get the host
a game next Friday night with a chance to go
to Lucasawa stateimill play for a state championship on Thanksgiving weekend.
Just what high school football is all about.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
Absolutely, Steve Allery from Indiana High School Sports dot Com. Steve,
thanks so much for calling me. I'll look forward to
having you and on the air with me next weekend.
All right, thanks, so thank you. All Right, there you
have it. First call the night, thirty eight to seven
win by Lapel over to Lutheran and underscore that it

(07:21):
was thirty five nothing shut out a year ago, flip
flopped the participants. So fun. We have a lot a
lot of football to talk about, plus them and squeezing
basketball in tonight too, and just a fun night, fun
time of year talking about tournaments and championships. We're back

(07:41):
on network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk. Welcome back, everybody, this
is Indiana Sports Talk. Glad you're with us football weekend.
We got a lot of football to talk about. Great

(08:04):
night for all of you. You are going to be
dazzled by the school board updating Stuordinaire Brendan King.

Speaker 5 (08:11):
Hello, Brendan Coach, how are we?

Speaker 1 (08:15):
I'm great?

Speaker 5 (08:16):
How are you terrific? Doing great? Good to be back.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
So you've been gone for a while. I mean, I
didn't know if you were still working on the show
I had. I felt like calling the Indiana State Police
to put out an APB for you. Wasn't sure what
was going on.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
Well, you should have called the State College Police because
they were the ones that were trying to follow me
around last weekend. I was at the Penn State Indiana
game for those that didn't know, but yeah, for twenty
two of us that were on campus celebrating my friend
Brian's bachelor party the State College PD. Thankfully, we did
not have any run ins with those fine people.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
Listenette is a great idea for a bachelor party to
go to college station and watch Penn State and IU.
Whoever put that together, that is that's genius stuff right there.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
Well, I shared a little bit of the planning, but
I can't take full credit. It was a team effort.
But I'll tell you, Coach, we were in the upper
deck for sure, But we had a clear view of
our Omar Cooper's catch there in the end zone, and
we didn't think it was kind of great. Oh it
was nuts because the stadium replay system did not have

(09:24):
the same look that Fox did, so we the replay
that we got looked like he was out of bounce.
So crowd's going nuts, and then they obviously ruled that
as a catch. We're all looking at each other, what
in the world's going on? And then we end up
going to Twitter and we see the live replay. Right, Oh, well,
there you go. So no, it left a state of

(09:45):
confusion for sure there at Beaver Stadium. But what a catch,
one of the greatest of all time.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
No confusion in Indiana. That was a touchdown all the way.
Come on, that was easy, easy to call. All right,
tell me about your Bulldogs tomorrow and they're playing, right,
They got a game tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
Yeah, SMU down in Dallas. It's the second of the
home and home where Butler beat SMU last year, and
coach Butler's looked strong so far, putting up eighty eight
points or more in their first three games of the year.
Of course, though that's against some competition. Where it's you know,
you're playing some by games. So this is really the
first true test, you would say, for Butler going down
to SMU. And then you know in the old Feast
Week tournaments which are coming up next week, which are

(10:23):
some of my favorite games in college basketball season. You know,
Butler's gonna see some some primetime talent, including the Virginia
Cavaliers and others. So it's, uh, you know, this is
this is the week for thad motto where you really
find out the work done over the summer how it's
gonna pay off.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
It's it's a challenge to you know my feelings. Yeah
I do home home team wins sixty five seventy percent
of the time. Just that's that's your baseline. So start
there to manage your expectations. And so it's a hard
place to win, hard place to play. It's a bulldog

(11:02):
team that I'm not. But no one really has figured
out what they're doing yet, maybe the exception of I,
you Purdue, those guys probably have a pretty good grasp
of where it is right now. But there's a lot
a lot going on now. Tonight we have sectionals. Yeah
you're with us tomorrow night and we'll be talking about

(11:23):
excuse me, regionals, talking about all those things. Busy, busy weekend.
Pacers at home tomorrow night against Toronto. Still everyone on
the roster is injured. It seems. There's not an exaggeration.
That's how it feels. And then we have a we
have a Colt with a week off, thank goodness, after

(11:45):
their trip to a Germany, and so football taking center stage,
no question.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
Yeah, it's funny. I mean, I think if you asked
the average Indiana sports fan, you would want to change
the bye week between the Pacers and the Cult. You
want to give the pay is the week off right
now to get healthy? Well, you want the Colt to
get right back on the field, you know, after that
big win against the Atlanta over in Germany that you reference. So, yeah,
Toronto's coming in tomorrow. They're off a big win against
Cleveland on the road. So you know, no game in

(12:13):
this NBA season is easy, especially when you are dinged
up like the Pacers are.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
Yeah, they're dinged up, there's no question, And it's it's
one of those situation where we well can't get much worse.
Careful what you wish for? And then Aaron King, Yeah,
Brendan King coming up school board update. He is the man.
We're glad you're with us. This is Indiana's sports dook.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
This Indiana Sports Talk scoreboard update is brought to you
by Quality Supply and Tool in Indianapolis, Bloomington, Jeffersonville, and
Lafayette Think outside the box store Quality Supply and toool
dot Com.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
Coach much appreciated. All scores this evening from Class A
IHSAA Regional football are in, including maybe an upset Myland
takes down to defending champ Providence. That's a final twenty
two to seven. Mylon's gonna have the opportunity next week
to play for a chance to represent themselves at Lucas

(13:23):
Soil Stadium. South Putnam victorious. South Putnam remains undefeated twenty
six to six over Sheridan. Tonight, South Adams squeaked past
North Miami by a field goal twenty five to twenty two,
and was pioneered tonight having no problem lift with Laville
thirty four to fourteen. Pioneer trying to get back to
a state championship game where they were a number of

(13:46):
years ago, back in twenty eighteen. Class two A. As
we have reference to the early part of this show.
All three undefeated teams in Class two A remain unbeaten.
Adam Central over Eastbrook forty two to twenty eight. They
have a perfect record. Lapal takes down luther In thirty

(14:06):
eight seven. They have perfection also with a gooseg in
that l column remains Brownstown Central no issue with Linton
Stockton forty three to eighteen next week for a chance
at playing in downtown Indianapolis. Undefeated Lapal versus undefeated Brownstown Central.

(14:26):
That is remarkable. Just one score to speak of so far.
In Class three A was Fort Wayne Bishop Lures by
a touchdown over Twin Lakes fourteen to seven. Ron Collie
edged Yorktown thirty one to twenty seven out of Class
four A, and lastly from Class six A, Brownsburg demolishes
Decatur Central. That's a final forty seven to twenty three.

(14:47):
Bulldogs the defending champ. They move on.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
Welcome back everyone, This is Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk.
I'm Bob Lovell. Glad you're with us. Big night of football,
Big day tomorrow of college football. All right, Brendan King,
you are a native of Illinois, so you you've heard
of the Monon Bell game. Oh sure, yeah, but there's

(15:13):
no way to understand it unless you've actually gone to
Wabash or De Paul played in the game, or I
was part of the broadcast back a few years on TV.
And it's everything it's touted to be and more. Quite honestly,
one hundred and thirty one years this will be the

(15:34):
one hundred and thirty first meeting of these two teams,
which kind of I think addresses what a rivalry is
supposed to be about. And in that period of time,
the margin between the two schools is unbelievably Because I
don't know exactly what it is. I need to do
my research, but it's very very close between the two,

(15:55):
which is exactly what a rivalry is supposed to be about.

Speaker 3 (15:59):
Yeah, I've got the game program in front of me
here and I was looking through it earlier tonight, just
researching some things for tomorrow's show because we'll be together again.
It's it's amazing to look year by year and really
how close it has been, because there have been some
stretches where either Wabash or paw have have you know,
had the upper hand, including I was looking at this

(16:20):
from nineteen twenty one until nineteen twenty six. Wabash exclusively
shut out to PAUW for for six straight years. Right,
and then there has been the last number of years
where Depau has had the upper hand. They've won three
in a row, Wabash one consecutively from nine to fifteen.
So yeah, even though there have been times where one

(16:40):
has had the upper hand over another, the difference coach
is a sixty three, fifty eight and nine all time marker.
So you do the mathea, That's.

Speaker 1 (16:49):
What I'm saying. That's insane. And then you know what
you like too, or the you know or the or
the stories and behind it and uh like one year,
I forget which one of the schools went in and
basically stole the bell from the campus of the other
those kinds of things, and for me, you know, having

(17:10):
them on, having the coaches on the show. Brett Deets,
I think in his first year, called me after the win, right,
and he is, he's, I know he's in his car
because you can tell. And I say, so, where are you?
He goes, I am driving, He said, I have the
bell in my pickup truck and I'm driving around campus

(17:34):
and he goes, I got my player, some of my
players in the back on the in the truck and
they are ringing the bell and we're driving through campus. Now,
you know, those are cool things to get on your show.

Speaker 5 (17:45):
That's one of a kind right there, and you know.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
What, it's just those these things are fun. Greg Rastrow
has the call on the game tomorrow, and it's what's
really cool is that there's so much going on. Both
teams are having great, I mean great, great years and
it'll be fun to see how that mentions. I think
Greg has his telepathic because Greg Rakeshrow joins us on

(18:12):
from the ISC Sports Network. Greg, I was just referencing
you in the Monon Belt game tomorrow and we'll talk
a little bit about that. But tonight, since you are
the busiest man, hardest working in in the business, you
have the Warren Central twenty four to twenty one win
over Center Grove in Regional Action. Greg, thanks so much
for the call. What you expected. You kind of thought

(18:35):
this would be a great game, and it certainly seemed
to be that way, Bob.

Speaker 6 (18:39):
For a third consecutive week, we feature a team that
lost in the regular season that then beats that same
team in the playoffs. First it was LCLN. Last week
it was Westfield Carmel. This week it is Warren Central.
The giving idea as to how amazing Eric Morris program
has been. This is the first time they lose before

(19:01):
the semi state round since two thousand and seventeen. As
Warren Central ends up playing the team that they lost
to to finish the season each of the last three
years and finds a way to get the double to
Knight hanging on the end twenty four to twenty one.
Is it that close to the entire time, then it

(19:22):
is not that close to the entire time, But Bob,
we had some lean changes. So Warren Central got the
ball to start, took it down the field, kicked a
field goal, got Center Grove to go three and out
scored a touchdown. Warren eventually bumped that lead to seventeen
to nothing. Warner Grove was able to get one touchdown
back before halftime. Then's had the ball to start the

(19:44):
third quarter and scored that other touchdown to make it
seventeen fourteen. Then took the lead twenty one seventeen on
an eighty five yard touchdown pass from Oscar Sloan to
Roman Youngs, but to Warren's credits, they score on the
first the fourth quarter, a tip pass in the end
zone pulled down by Zack Waller to make it twenty

(20:05):
four to twenty one, and then, frankly, both teams went
back and forth with either turnovers or simply not scoring drives. Eventually,
Warren central stop day drive on fourth and ten, just
shy of midfield with a little more than a minute
left to play to end up taking a couple of
knees and putting this one away to keep their season going.

(20:27):
For first year head coach JT. Whitaker.

Speaker 1 (20:31):
J T. Whitaker's done a fantastic job with a program
that has great history. All Right, I got two minutes here,
you got the Monon Bell game. I know you're prepared.
I know you're ready to go. One of those where
both teams are really, really good.

Speaker 6 (20:50):
That has been common, Bob, What I don't think has
been the case in the brief ten year I have
had this game. This is now year five for me
of doing the game where both teams are dead even
you know, they both maybe the best two teams in
the league before, which honestly is not the cap this
year because of John Carroll's conversions into the league. But
they're both eight and one. They're both playing for a

(21:11):
playoff spot because it's not a guarantee, but the thought
is that they're both top twenty five teams. There are
now thirteen at large busin in Division three. They think
whoever wins this game is going to get one. But
to play the comparison game, Bob that scores against John
Carroll of these two teams were thirty one to twenty
eight and thirty one twenty seven. This kind of gives

(21:32):
you an idea at just how level these two teams
are going into the Marrow Knights game.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
Man oh man, Well now you know why he's the
best at what he does. Greg rakester of from the
ISC Sports Network. Tonight Warren Central beat Sendergrove twenty four
to twenty one. Tomorrow you'll catch him on the IS.
You guys have it, don't you? IS network? You have
this game that is correct?

Speaker 6 (21:57):
Find it on IS sportsnetwork dot com, is Twitter, YouTube, Twitch,
I don't even know what twitch is, but we'll be
on there, Apple TV and Roku and watch parties literally
all around the globe will feature our coverage from cropperds
till it kicks off at one o'clock.

Speaker 1 (22:12):
Can't do this without you. Thanks so much for the call.
We'll talk to you tomorrow night. Have a great night.
Thanks coach, thank you. Coming up more football on Network
