Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good eating, everybody, and welcome to Network Indiana's Indiana Sports
Talking Bob lovel Is brought to you by Indiana Donor Network.
A lot of football to talk about, a lot of
high school football to talk about, two plus the Colts
and the Fever. Right now, though we turn it over
to the start of our show. It's Network Indiana's Landon

(00:20):
Kuns Coach.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
It is a pleasure to be with you on this
Saturday night with our producers Kylon Tally and Caleb Zuver.
NFL preseason Week number two. Indapolis Colts fall oh and
two on the preseason schedule as the Green Bay Packers
defeated them twenty three to nineteen. Pretty solid days all
around for all quarterbacks, Dale Jones going seven for eleven
with one hundred and one yards, Anthony Richardson six for

(00:43):
eleven seventy three yards, and Riley Leonard seven for twelve
sixty four yards. And it's pretty tough to say right
now who the starting quarterback could be.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
I really don't know. It really doesn't matter what I think.
At the end of the day, it's really up to them.
I feel like I've been China my best foot forward,
trying to grow each and every step of the way.
I feel like I've been doing a decent job, you know,
and improving. But at the end of the day, I
just want to keep improving. And if I do want
a job, you know, thank god. If not, I need

(01:13):
to keep working.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
That's Anthony Richardson on if he's shown enough to be
the starter for the season to cul to be back
in action next Saturday, all week from tonight at one
o'clock to in Cincinnati to take on Joe Burrow and
the Bengals last night and you had a fever loss
of the Washington Mystics.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
Eighty eight to eighty four.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
He'll be back in action tomorrow against the Connecticut Sun.
You can listen to it at one o'clock and our
flexipitation in ninety three five and one to seven to
five of the fan for never getting out of sports.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
I'm mad Aicons.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Welcome back everyone. We're glad you're with us, Glad you
were there with this last night. Were each closer and
closer to the reason all of you listened to the show.

Speaker 5 (01:54):
Scores they're coming up Friday. Just hang in there.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
We're bringing you your score yours every fifteen minutes coming
up on Friday years ago when we got started. I
recognized early on people weren't listening to me. They were
listening for the scores because they told me that all
the time. And so I don't think anything's changed in
thirty one years. Land and Coons, well done today. Tell

(02:19):
me about the Colts. I know you ran through the
numbers talking about quarterbacks. Look, the quarterback conversation is going
to be a conversation that we will hear. My guess
is for the entire year. So it just it will
continue where it is, who should be number one, who
should be number two? Why the reasons why.

Speaker 5 (02:39):
This, that and the other.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
It's going to continue, and it's what gives guys like
you and me something to talk about in our chosen profession.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
Oh for sure, you know.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Kind of like I mentioned in that last update, it's
it seemed like like all three quarterbacks were pretty much
on par with each other. So yeah, I think it's
definitely going to be interesting to see who's gonna be
going forward. I don't believe there has been named a
starter yet for Cincinnati. I could be wrong with that.
I'll have to check up on that, but I know
Shane Styke it has a lot more thinking and preparing

(03:11):
for what to do starting next weekend.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
Check Out what's happening with these injuries? Is it me
or they're just banged up with a lot of different
They're just they're really decimated by some injuries.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Yeah, a lot of cornerbacks have been injured. And we
had another injury today with break Freeland. He's one of
the backup offensive linemen. He suffered a fractured leg. So yeah,
we will not be seeing him for the rest of
the season.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
None of that's good. Well, we haven't even played and
we are we're down numbers. And Uh, that's the I've
always marveled at the NFL. It is it's a wonderful,
wonderful game. It's the dominant sport in our culture, continues
to be continues to grow. Uh, in terms of media,

(03:58):
it's not even a fair fight between football and anything else.
And so it's an interesting thing in a sense that
all of the discussion and all of the preparation and
all of this and all of that really depends upon injuries.
And if you have a good quarterback and he's healthy,
you have a chance. And then the other injuries, your

(04:22):
interior line and things like this can become an issue,
and so teams that are able to weather those problems
have a chance to win. And if you don't, you're
going to have a fan base that's incredibly frustrated for
a long long time.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
I completely agree with that coach, And you know, we've
been kind of seeing this the past couple of years.
I think Colts fans are getting to the point where
they didn't really know what's even going for and I
think they're getting kind of annoy But in a way,
this kind of feels like a brand new era.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
For the Colts.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
This is basically this is the last reset in a way,
you kind of you have the new ownership with Carl
Ersa coming in and the I say, daughter is taking
hold of that. This is you know, a lot of
fans look at this as the last trial run for
Anthony Richardson. You know, some fancy this as Daniel Jones
could be the guy going forward. So there's just a
lot of stuff to talk about, and he keeps a

(05:13):
lot of Colts fans questioning throughout the entire season.

Speaker 5 (05:16):
And again, you know the old coach and me says,
control the controllables, right, Uh, you can't control injuries.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
You know, not much you can do, not much about
it that you can do, and that's why having quality
backups is so important to you. And you know, every
NFL franchise is one major injury away from being in
uh near mediocrity, and I think the cults are, you know,

(05:44):
in that similar situation. But you know, in terms of
being in the sports talk business, there's drama. There's there's
no lack of drama, and uh we try to you know,
we talk a little bit about it on this I
think people have listened to our show understand we spend
more time talking about high school and college football, but

(06:06):
you know, the.

Speaker 5 (06:06):
Same thing is true there.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
Speaking of college football, we're going to talk with jeff
rab johnsonpeaks dot com talking about IU football ranked in
the top twenty high actually talk about high expectations they
certainly have. We talked about Purdue last night, brand new faces,
literally an entirely new roster up in West Lafayette. Not

(06:29):
the case in Bloomington. So Jeffyl Jonas later on and
I will talk more about Notre Dame football fever in
action tomorrow at seven, Yeah, tomorrow after what times? The
game tomorrow afternoon with the with the Fever.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
Tomorrow, Indiana Fever versus Connecticut Sun.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
That'll be at one o'clock, one o'clock lost last night,
and so you can't have a discussion about the fever,
about figuring out what's happening with Caitlin Clark, and we'll
join that. Scott Agnew from the field House Files will
join us. We talk a little minor league baseball, a
lot of minor league baseball, quite frankly.

Speaker 5 (07:08):
So that's where we are.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
But into the weekend, everybody's attention turns to Friday night
high school football season thirty one for us covering high
school football.

Speaker 5 (07:20):
We hope you're with us.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
Short break, We're back. This is Indiana Sports Stock. Welcome back, everybody.
This is Indiana sports Stalk. It's brought to you by
Indiana Donor Network Driven to Save Lives dot org is
their important website. I can't imagine that there are people
out there who haven't listened to Indiana Sports Talk on

(07:42):
a Friday night during the high school football season. But
if in fact you're in that category, you need to
join us on your local station and listen to our
show coming up Friday night as we start season thirty
one of covering high school football in the state. It
is if you haven't listened, it's not an easy thing

(08:04):
to describe. On a normal Friday night, I'll talk to
over twenty members of the media and high school football
coaches about their games. And keep in mind, I'm talking
about games I haven't seen on this day and age.

(08:26):
Technologically speaking, you have access to information, but.

Speaker 5 (08:31):
Not like that.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
So we're going to talk to a great number of people.
And the highlight of the show has always been and
will always be this way, is that we do scores
every fifteen minutes, and so you're going to find out
who won what game.

Speaker 5 (08:48):
And the other.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
Part of it, too is what's fun is that we
try to mention as many kids' names as we possibly can,
so that when grandmother and grandfather driving home after to
watching the game, they can they can drive and listen
to that interview we'll have with their coach and they
can say, oh, they just mentioned Billy's name, and how

(09:13):
exciting that is, and that's all real. That's all fun.
And for me this that and the other thing that
I always love is when that first year coach calls
me after winning his first game of his career. I
love those, having gone through that coaching a different sport

(09:34):
a few years ago, I know what that feelings like
to go out and win your first career game, that
that is one of the biggest nights of their lives,
and for them to take time out from the celebration
to call our show is incredibly gratifying and that we
were honored when coaches do that. And I've forever enjoyed

(09:57):
interviews with coaches on the team bus on the way
back after winning a tough road game and listening to
our show in the background on the bus and those
so you know, those kinds of things have made this
so much fun the entire time we've.

Speaker 5 (10:13):
Been able to do that. So we have that to
look forward to.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
All right, Nathaniel Finch will call me later on tonight,
but right now, Landon Coons, you're ready, Hey, listen, I
have not mentioned anything at all about racing, So what's
going on in NASCAR?

Speaker 2 (10:27):
So NASCAR is racing at the Richmond Raceway tonight. Stage
two just got completed. It's been a big night for
twenty three to eleven. Tyler Redick won the first stage
and then ultimately got crashed out in the stage.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
But I do believe he is still running.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
Bubba Wallace just recently won the second AG two A
restart second. Michael McDowell right now is the leader of
this race.

Speaker 5 (10:48):
You're a NASCAR fan, aren't you?

Speaker 4 (10:50):
Diehard?

Speaker 5 (10:51):
All right, diehard?

Speaker 1 (10:52):
We're getting down to the playoffs, right, this is the
cut line is about to gobble up some people and
get him out, right.

Speaker 4 (11:00):
Yes, sir.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
So this is the second to last race of the
regular season, and next Saturday will be the regular season
finale from Daytona.

Speaker 4 (11:08):
And you cannot be in a.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
More stressful track than trying to secure a playoff spot
than Daytona.

Speaker 5 (11:14):
You think.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
The world famous Daytona track. Yeah, that's what makes it
so much fun, you know. And it's been an interesting
We talked with Adam Alexander last week and I.

Speaker 5 (11:27):
Thought I'd let him have a week off and not
bother him.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
But Richmond's one of those fabled older tracks. It's a
great venue. There's a lot going on. So who's up
against it? What are the possible permutations so to speak,
on who gets in or who's left out based on
what happens tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
So there's thirteen secure spots right now, three that are
open that are still left open, and those right now
belong to Alex Bowman, Chris Busher, and Tyler Reddick. Tyler
Redick is fighting his way back through the Big One
right now. That's in front is Michael McDowell and Austin
Dillon trying to make their way in.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
All right, keep it up, You're doing a great job.
Coming up lane is gonna have you a scoreboard update
for you. This is Indiana Sports Stuff.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
Landon kuons Here for you another Network Indiana Sports scoreboard update.
New leader from the Richmond Raceway. As we just talked
about it just a few seconds ago, Austin Dillon is
the leader of this race. Bubba Wallace second, Alex Bowman third,
Michael McDowell fourth, and Ryan Blaney completes the top five.
Austin Dillon won this race one year ago in very
dramatic fashion, taking out leaders Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin

(12:36):
in the closing corners last year, and it was very,
very controversial.

Speaker 4 (12:42):
Looking in for the WNBA.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
And you had a fever loss of the Washington Mystic
last night eighty eight to eighty four. They'll be back
in action tomorrow at the Connecticut Sun. You can listen
to that game on ninety three to five and one
oh seven to five the Fan that's our flagship station.
You can tune in at one o'clock tomorrow. In the MLB,
the ch Kyle Cubbs take down the Pittsburgh Pirates three
to one. This game is still going on. The Milwaukee

(13:05):
Brewers lead the Cincinnati red six to three in the
top of the eleventh, so extra innings in Ohio, the
Atlanta Braves leave the Cleveland Guardians ten to one. Chicago
White Sox and the Kansas City Royals Roles lead this
game six to two. In the bottom of the eighth,
Detroit Tigers lead the Minnesota Twins six to five. At

(13:26):
the bottom of the seventh, New York Yankees ten to
seven over the Saint Louis Cardinals in the top of
the seventh, right now a live look in for the
MiLB and now Blest Indians are losing to the Scranton
Wilkes Bear. Wilkes Bear rail Riders say that five times fast,
eleven to five. At the top of the ninth, four
Way ten Caps defeating the West Michigan White Caps three

(13:50):
to nothing. And finally, the Boyd scarcarp are leading the
South End Cubs three to two for Network India Sports
Almenic cons.

Speaker 1 (13:59):

Speaker 5 (14:34):

Speaker 1 (14:35):
And thanks again to Indiana Donor Network for being a
strong part of Indiana' sportsong for as long as they have.
We greatly appreciate I personally appreciate it more than you
can begin to understand. So all right, Landon Coons, we
get to fever tomorrow. What is coming up? What do
we have any news on Caitlin Clark other than we're waiting.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
I believe it is still we are waiting like I
mentioned in my last update. Tip off is tomorrow at
one o'clock against the Connecticut Sun, and I believe if
I'm remembering this right, it's been.

Speaker 4 (15:09):
A tricky part of the season for the Fever.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
Whenever they play the Connecticut Sun, it hasn't really gone
in their favor. You know, Kelsey Plum has been at
one of their big star players. And I'm actually looking back, actually,
I take that back from what I said. The Fever
have won the last two games against the Sun, most
recently on July fifteenth, And yeah, Caitlin Clark is still
out as of now.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
They've played well under the circumstances, and so let's be
positive and be optimistic. But they are they're running out
of games, are they not there? They're blowing through this season.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
Yes, I'm looking at their schedule now and I believe
we'll only have about a handful I'd say roughly about
roughly about ten to twelve games left of this regular season.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
Wow, Wow, it's going quickly. All right, you have the cult?
Did you watch that game today?

Speaker 4 (16:08):
I'm gonna be honest with you, Coach.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
I had to produce Home and Garden this morning on
one of our other flight sectations on ninety three w
ib C. So after that game, I went home and
I went back to bed. I felt bad. I didn't
really watch really a minute of it, and I felt bad.
So I had to do a quick brush up on when.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
All I missed, and I actually sat down and watched,
you know, in a large part because Greg Rakestrawl was
doing the play by play. It's good to hear him
and and he and Rick Venturia are really really good.

Speaker 5 (16:40):
So I watched it. You know, preseason games they're kind
of hard.

Speaker 1 (16:49):
They're hard to get inspired about, quite frankly from my perspective,
and I just, you know, I understand it's important for
people trying to make roster spots.

Speaker 5 (17:01):
It's important to try.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
To get reps for our quarterback and try to get
some clarity to that situation. It's important to to build
meaningful depth at a lot of a lot of positions
on this roster.

Speaker 5 (17:14):
And I understand the importance.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
Of it doesn't necessarily mean that the quality of play
is that good.

Speaker 5 (17:21):
Uh, And I think that's a uh.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
It's it's a very necessary part of what everybody does.
But it'll be here before we know it, and here
we're ready to go in a couple of weeks.

Speaker 4 (17:31):
Right, Yes, we will be ready here.

Speaker 2 (17:35):
I believe that first weekend of September and it als
will be taking on I believe that is the Miami
Dolphins for their regular season opener.

Speaker 5 (17:44):
So they open up with two in a row at home.
Is that right? That's I think that's right.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
That sounds right. I'm looking up their schedule now. I
don't really remember it off the top of my head.
I know I should know that great to.

Speaker 5 (17:56):
Get great to get a good start.

Speaker 1 (17:58):
Uh And and it's I think everyone understands, irrespective of
the sport, irrespective of the level, and good starts are
really really important.

Speaker 5 (18:07):
So yeah, I look, they really truly are.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
I got the schedule pulled up in front of me.
They will be back to back at home for their
first two games. Week one will be Sunday, September seventh,
at one o'clock. That'll be against the Miami Dolphins. And
then week two, Sunday, September fourteenth, that'll be four o'clock
against the Denver Broncos.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
We spent quite a bit of time last night, and
I'm sure there are people who thought we spent way
too much time talking about the travel restrictions you'd run
into trying to get downtown today to watch the game.
Did you get involved in that?

Speaker 2 (18:41):
No, but just everywhere is blocked off and everything's one
lane and they could not have picked a worst time
to do a downtown in Indianapolis.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
Well, I mean, you got to play, you know, And
that's the whole thing's at conundrum you have. You got
to fix the roads and ultimately it'll be it'll benefit people,
but you know, there's.

Speaker 5 (19:01):
A temporary frustration in terms of house.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
Implemented and so I hope everyone was able to get
where they needed to be on time and enjoy the game.

Speaker 5 (19:14):
The score wasn't what everybody wanted.

Speaker 1 (19:16):
But what were some of the positive things that the
Colts did today in terms of this matchup with Green Bay?

Speaker 4 (19:23):
Well, I think you can look at it too.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
Anthony Richardson had himself a pretty solid day, going six
for eleven seventy three yards. He did have one sackers
for eight yards, though, but he looks like.

Speaker 4 (19:36):
He looked good.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
He was able to sing the ball farther down to
what he's usually typically been able to do. Right looking
on like the rushing side, DJ Giddens was one of
the big takeaways of that, he had six carries for
twenty eight yards. The loan touchdown of the day belonged
to Tyler Goodson. I believe that was a three yard run.
And then looking into the receiving stats, coleman Owen was
the big man of the day there.

Speaker 4 (19:57):
Four receptions for forty six yards.

Speaker 2 (19:59):
He had, Michael Junior two receptions thirty one yards, Anthony
Gould three receptions thirty yards.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
This is in some of the preseason work you're hearing
from Grand Park, they've been victimized by dropped passes, which
is never a good sign for a football team. I
hope that wasn't the case today.

Speaker 4 (20:18):
I don't think it really was that much of a case.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
And I'll tell you what, coach, I went to that
joint practice session against the Packers on Thursday just kind
of go get a feel for it. And Daniel Jones
Anthony Ritchson both looked pretty solid and respective. But the
O line I think was very critical, a lot of
people not very happy with that. Needs a lot of
improvement with that. But you know, like we mentioned earlier,

(20:43):
we had that injury with break see me, Blake Freeland
having that broken leg. So that's another backup loss there
you have, like we mentioned, Yeah.

Speaker 5 (20:53):
It's hard to find interior a lignement. I think everyone
understands it and it's and that hurts, and that hurts
in terms of depth and quality of depth. And sorry
for him. All right? What else?

Speaker 1 (21:09):
What have I missed? Major League Baseball? We got major
League Baseball going on? What's what's happening? What happened with
our Indians and with the ten Caps and with the Cubs.
Do we know Indians and all those guys?

Speaker 2 (21:21):
Indians have a final They have lost eleven to five
to the Scranton Wilkes Bear wilts Bear rail Riders.

Speaker 1 (21:28):
All right, brother, Top of the hour, school board update
coming up with our man Landon Coons.

Speaker 5 (21:34):
